Comments of Marameo

I’ve been hearing the food is really delicious here. But yesterday’s experience was below my expectation.
Starters with scampi and oysters were highly recommend despite the scampi was not that fresh. Truffle pasta was not as good as I expected because of the texture.

🐖 Prosciutto Di Parma, Gnocchi Fritto
🍃 Burrata, Zucchini, Pistachio, Mint
🧂 Spaghetti Cacio e Pepe
🍝 Saffron Pappardelle Ragu
☕️ Tiramisu
Marameo is the cheeky younger sister restaurant to the well known @barcarolina_sthyarra, @tettodicarolina_ and @ilbacaromelbourne. The name itself is a bit of fun, meaning to tease, ‘thumb one’s nose at’. 🤪
The menu offers a small selection of Italian dishes including mostly antipasti and pasta. If you’re super hungry I suggest opting for either their Chef’s Choice ($75pp) or Set Menu ($85pp) options. The drinks menu is impressive (and a little expensive), plenty of refreshing Spritz’s and citrusy cocktails to have a try at. I would recommend the La Strada and La Dolce Vita🍹
We started with a couple of entrees. The burrata itself was nice however I wasn’t entirely sold on its accompaniments of zucchini, pistachio and mint. It would have been nice to have some focaccia or something to have with it. The Gnocchi Fritti was a little undercooked, wasn’t as golden as I prefer it.
The Cacio e Pepe was really peppery and delicious, dish of the night for us. The Ragu was also very tasty but wasn’t the kind I prefer. The meat was chopped up and diced rather than pulled apart, leaving it unincorporated and you either got the pasta or the meat - not both. Finishing on dessert was a bit of a let down especially because Tiramisu is one of my favourites. It was far from traditional, very wet and not at all spongey.
Service was really great from start to finish by all that assisted us, so props to them. Everything we had was enjoyable but was anything good enough to make me want to return? I’m not sure. 🤷🏼♀️
⭐️ 3/5 (Good)

Great service. Good but not great food. Overall very overpriced for the food that’s trying to be a modern-casual-fine restaurant. The scampi is $24 for one single grilled prawn!! It amounted to not even 1tbsp of prawn. It was good but nothing special. The kingfish was ok - flavour was simple. Squid ink pasta and cacio e pepe were very tasty and well cooked. All dishes were on the salty side. Overall wouldn’t go back or recommend to a friend but it was a decent meal.

The food was pretty good, no standouts but delicious nonetheless. Marameo reminded me a lot of Lupo (now closed but lower price tag) and the octopus entree was definitely better at Lupo.
The mains and pasta around the 30-40+ mark. Service was friendly and fairly attentive even though they were really busy. On the 2 occasions I was there I didn’t feel inclined staying any longer than I had to, I’m starting to think maybe the music is too loud?

This is everything I love about eating out in Melbourne! Great atmosphere, friendly staff and delicious food! I came with a group of 12 and it made for a great group dining experience but it would also be lovely for a date night. Can't wait to come back.

Marameo is a beautiful venue but the food and service isn’t quite up to scratch unfortunately.
The service was quite inattentive. I found myself walking over to get the jug of water to pour our empty glasses on at least 4 occasions. Despite having about 4 waiters on the floor servicing 3 tables I had to wave someone down to get my bill.
The food all sounds beautiful on the menu, but the execution was lacking.
- Highlight was the Burrata. Great flavours and very tasty.
- The octopus and scampi were underwhelming. Good but not great. And certainly overpriced.
- both the spaghetti and parpadelle pasta felt thick. Didn’t nail that. The wagyu ragu was also quite sad looking
- tiramisu was OK, they tried to do a modern take but I don’t feel like the execution was good.
In general, the menu is very overpriced for what it delivers on.
I won’t be back in a rush.

Just finished eating the chefs selection menu, currently trying to stay alive and not go into a euphoric food coma. One of the best meals I have ever had the pleasure of eating! The cacio e Pepe pasta is an absolute show stopper I swear I will be dreaming about it for weeks!
I don’t care if you are visiting Melbourne for one hour, make the time to come here! It is 300000000% worth it!

Really enjoyed having lunch here. The food was great quality and delicious and the staff were friendly. The decor was beautiful and it was nice to be able to dine out again at a place that serves tasty food with a great vibe - didn’t disappoint!

Hidden upstairs in Russell place off little Collins you’ll spot their sign sticking out of the side of the wall.
We were seated in the dining area towards the balcony and we sat on a semi oval dining table which is different.
They offer a physical menu for drink and the paper placement has the QR code for check in and menu.
We had a booking at 5:30 and I arrived a little early and we were seated at 5:45. Ordered within five minutes from being seated.
We recommend the beef tartare cannoli. We’ll seasoned and it had a nice crunch. Can’t be shared and gone within 1-2 bites. Served with a sprinkle of white powder... Let me know what you think it is? Is it vinegar? Is it citrus?
Ordered a sweet mock-tail and it was pretty. Tasted just like a mild lemonade.
The mains arrived just after 7:15 and we quickly ate it as we had to rush off to a 7:30 session at the moonlight cinemas.
The Spaghetti cacio e pepe was al dente. The pasta itself had a nice chewiness and had a mild truffle presence.
The baby chicken was a full chicken and it was juicy and tender and the breast was not dry.
We ordered:
Wagyu beef tartare cannoli
Grilled scampi, fennel, pink pepper butter
Calamari, soft shell crab, baby carrots, chilli
Spaghetti cacio e pepe + black truffle
Squid ink spaghetti, WA blue swimmer crab, chilli, tomato, fish roe
Grilled baby chicken, mustard, lemon, thyme
Seasoned chips

We visited for the first time and we had a nice meal. The food was gorgeous - I had possibly the best Cacio e Pepe pasta of my life (!). The only thing is that the staff wasn't perhaps as friendly/attentive as in other restaurants of that level; nothing terrible, just a little bit slow overall.
S. T.
The food was amazing, I've spent a lot of time in Italy and this is great Italian food. Mask wearing by serving staff and manager not fabulous, but they did agree to our request to be seated outside even though they didn't have the outside section open, which made us feel safer. Prompt and courteous service, will definitely be back.
R. A.
Absolutely loved it, I’ve saved this place and I’m coming back! We did the feed me, and everything was so tasty. We originally booked inside, but it was a perfect warm evening and there was space on the courtyard so we went outside. We had so much fun. Staff were very attentive.
A. W.
What a beautiful restaurant. We stumbled across this beauty when visiting a nearby bar and were glad we did. The food and wine were incredible and the staff and service were above and beyond. Our waiter was the warmest and friendliest and made our visit one to remember. Thank you!
Z. W.
Cozy atmosphere and friendly service. Burrata tastes fresh with creamy texture. Love their hazelnut chocolate puff and the beef tartare cannoli :)

Went for lunch with hubby on a Thursday (24/10/19). We'd been a few times before, when it was Sarti, and we've always had a good time. I love the clean new look decor and the new layout feels good, plenty of space between tables so you're not squeezing past other diners or sitting too close to others. They now have a lovely outdoor eating area and a private dining room that seats up to 30. The staff were attentive (but not annoying), knowledgeable and very friendly. I really liked that they didn't seat other diners right next to each other, where they could they left space, which is a great touch.
The. Food. Is. Amazing! Beautiful, fresh, well-balanced flavours. And just so gorgeous to look at too. The Orsinga Montepulviano red house wine is very drinkable. We had three courses with drinks for two people for $150, very good value for the quality of the experience. Marameo is going on our favorites list.

Good food, good service.
Unlucky the government/media used this restaurant as an example to remind other restaurants of what can happen if they don’t obey their commands.
Don’t go shaming people’s business just because of what you see on the media. Come, taste and experience for yourself.
E. J.
Dropped in for some drinks and had a great time. Great service, great drinks! Food looks great too! Great atmosphere.
I. C.
Was quiet when we got there, but got very busy after. Booking recommended. Very friendly and attentive staff. Food was good. I like the burrata (recommended by the staff), risotto and raspberry tart. Will visit again
A. E.
Food was delicious, nice interior. Hidden in a side street just of Bourke. Will recommend to friends
J. S.
Good atmosphere, simple tasty menu, special mention for lots of interesting non-alcohol/low alcohol options. Outdoor area is not huge but is pleasant.
L. H.
Sat in the sun outside, shade if we needed it.
Staff were the right amount of attentive.
Sampled most of the Menu A+

Marameo realistically sits just above a 3 for me. The staff are friendly and the restaurant aesthetic is stunning. Walking in feels like you're about to have an exceptional meal, although sadly the food was so so. For the price you pay, you'd typically expect a lot more than what is delivered.
I had the pappardelle with oxtail ragu and unfortunately it really lacked any sort of flavour. The pasta texture was perfection (I love al dente pasta, so I can't fault this), although there was what felt like a tablespoon of under seasoned ragu on top of what was merely a handful of pasta. Thankfully the lovely waiter was extra generous with the parmesan! For $38 I would have expected a pretty impeccable dish which on this occasion, really missed the mark. The group I was dining with also felt the same with their dishes - lacking a little flavour and little too pricey for what you get.
Q. M.
A lovely restaurant with lovely food. The space has a minimalist modern industrial feel but food that's much more comforting. I tried a few dishes, my favourite of which was the mushroom risotto. The white chocolate and caramel bigné (like a cream puff) was also delicious. Can't wait to go back.
J. L.
The pasta here is beautiful and really authentic. Highly recommend the express lunch special it is great value at $30 for a meal and glass of wine.
S. T.
I was lucky enough to have dinner here recently. It was an amazing meal and I could not fault a single dish we had. The stand out dishes for me were the Wagyu canolli and the swimmer crab pasta, both are must trys. The service was also great. I would recommend Marameo to anyone in a heartbeat

Here for support.
Vaccinated doesn’t mean you’re covid free. You can still get the virus and spread it even if you’re double dosed. It’s not a cure and people need to learn the difference.
They didn’t check vaccine certificates but so what? What does it even do? It’s not preventing covid from coming in so why the fuss? Government just wants control and destroy businesses.
A. R.
Good honest authentic Italian food. The wine list is great with a collection of Aussie and Italian wines.
R. O.
Finally got to try this place! Lovely interior fit out, food was good but not memorable. Also it was a tad too loud to have conversation across the table.
R. H.
I was actually surprised how busy this place was- watched them turn away quite a few people.
Main meals were a very good size, couldnt finish mine.
Felt on our night they must have been a staff member done as they seemed to struggle with keeping up with service but that being said they managed quite well the wait was just a bit longer to be served.
Friendly staff, great atmosphere, you need to book.
M.
Food was great! We had the Feed Me set and we were indeed well fed. Best tiramisu and truffle pasta I've ever had! The tiramisu was unique - crispy and liquidy but I can taste all the ingredients clearly. The truffle pasta was the tastiest I've had and I loved the pepper too. The portion was great for the set too. Perhaps if I were to choose what it would be followed by, I wouldn't choose a risotto. I found it heavy to finish with before a dessert. But the tiramisu was so good we asked for another one. Looking forward to try the beignet.
The staff was lovely. Some of them were warm and polite, especially the lady serving our food. It was our first time so it wasn't clear to us what the dress code was as it didn't seem to be a big deal on the website. Most people were glammed up. Probably glam up too if you want to be treated extra nicely.
B. C.
Great place for a drink and meal. Had a nice glad is wine out on the open air bar then a quick dinner.
Pasta was perfectly cooked al dente with a delightfully velvety sauce with prawns. Finished off with a tiramisu, which although small was very rich and with it. Extensive wine list with quite a few by the glass.
I did have food envy looking around at some of the other tables so there's room for another visit.
Would recommend and will go again.
A. R.
Love this place. Warm, attentive service. Gorgeous fit-out and amazing food. The pastas are so good and the chicken main is a standout too.
G. W.
Can’t rate this place highly enough, service is extraordinary, food is delicious and reasonable portions, quite expensive but you get what you pay for, including tips on wines to pair with meals. Thanks for a great night!
A. T.
Really enjoyed my Sher Wagyu steak and brisket at Marameo - cooked perfectly when I've asked for medium rare and so melt in the mouth delicious. I'm so glad I chose the option to add on spanish black truffles.
M. J.
We ordered via Providoor and were not disappointed! Easy to follow instructions and the food was delicious so much so it was hard to choose a favourite. Thank you for such lovely food allowing us to celebrate as a family a 60th birthday!
M. B.
A Little bit difficult to talk because of the loud music but food and service definitely make it up for it. Good prices as well.
M. A.
Delicious Italian. Classic flavours and nice atmosphere. They call out a rooftop which is a bit of a let down. Staff were efficient and polite. Although it took a while to get our bill.
S. K.
Sat at a very comfortable corner table, which was perfect for enjoying a long 3 course lunch with 3 others. Delicious vegetarian appetizers while others enjoyed selection of prosciutto, salami and mortadella. Main vegetarian pasta ok while 2 who had wagyu steaks said so good they could return the next day to have again. Side of chips really only suitable for 1-2 people so if 4 of you recommend order 2 as absolutely delicious but not generous serving. Gelato of day, hazelnut, great however one order of dessert was forgotten though when served came with extra ice-cream and we were not charged for it. Coffees excellent and we had variety, flat white, soy latte, decaf soy latte and decaf almond latte. Our waitperson Thomas was fantastic, could answer all questions, gave wine recommendations that were much enjoyed and had a great manner, so well done Thomas!

Top shelf Italian food. Top shelf service. Great wine list.
R. G.
Great customer service, no hold time when you call them.
T. G.
Food is top notch. The fresh cheese dish was the best. Wine is pricey.
R. B.
Service was excellent and very accommodating for gluten free. Oysters were perfect, as was the kingfish and barramundi. Beautiful flavours.
D. B.
Great restaurant continuing to deliver sensation food, very friendly and welcoming staff and a great experience for guests. Lunch with the 'feed me' option was sensational and meant no one from our party had food envy! Highly recommended.

Went to Marameo a few weeks back, seriously some good Modern Italian food. Cured meats to start off mortadella, prosciutto and a side of gnocchi puffs (little hollow puffs of pastry you can wrap your cured meats around it’s a must). Had the squid ink blue swimmer crab spaghetti delicate combination of classic flavors with a modern twist. Service and atmosphere highly attentive even on a busy Saturday night. A nice revamp from the sarti team!
A. D.
Been a long time favourite... Michael and Joe make the experience special everytime.
Highly recommend letting the staff order for you and just sit back and enjoy!

Came here with friends for dinner. Excellent service, delicious food. We had oysters, mortadella, salami, prosciutto, burrata with zucchini from antipasti. Def can recommend. Really enjoyed pastas as well. Especially Pepe spaghetti (spicy!) and squid ink.
Great variety of drinks, you really should try their Chablis wine (even though it’s French 😄)
I’m a bit disappointed about tiramisu as I prefer it more with biscuits soaked in coffee. But it was still good.
A. O.
Hip, and casual affair...
A. L.
Had a lovely meal tonight but the evening was marred by payment experience.
1. No menus on the table or offered, only a QR code
2. When we went to pay our bill for 5 ppl we scanned one card, then went to scan the next only to be told that they do not split bills more than 2 ways!!!! Apparently we should know as it is “written on the menu”
In this day with no cash, card payments typical and preferred this is appalling.
I can understand not splitting in a cafe with small bill, but not a $700+ for 5 people!
