Really great Italian restaurant in the heart of the city. Lovely atmosphere and fantastic customer service. We were served by a very friendly bald man (sorry!) and he was fantastic to deal with and made us feel very comfortable. The entree was the best croquettes we have ever had, and the homemade pasta was delicious. The tart special, mandarin and custard, was absolutely a standout and honestly should be a permanent part of the menu, it was amazing. Have already told family that we will be bringing them all here for the next family birthday!

Nice little Sicilian place tucked away in small laneway. Food is meticulously prepared, but a little pricey for what it is. Squid ink pasta was perfect, but the prawn pasta was a tad bit over seasoned

Great service super friendly. We were quite loud as we haven't been out for a while but they staff was never rude to us and were patient with our group. We were able to socialise comfortably. We apologise if we were a bit loud, we never felt judged lol. Super friendly Food was soooo good! The pasta is very fresh, tasty lots of umami. Fish was so fresh, antipasti was yummy too we had the calamari and asparagus.

Delicious food and excellent service. What’s my definition of excellent service? When the staff go above and beyond to ensure your experience is suitable to your needs. Upon learning I am taking part in Dry July, a swiftly prepared non-alcoholic version of an Aperol Spritz appeared before me. (A very stark contrast to a different restaurant a few days later who suggested I have a soft drink.) 10/10 👌🏼

One is my favourite Italian restaurant in Melbourne. Traditional Italian food. The rigatoni and linguine are my favourites. Been dining here few times. Took people from work to eat dinner here, they were all happy with their meals. Great cocktails and wine selections. Don’t forget to get the Cannolo for your dessert:)

This has to he one of the best places to eat in Melbourne. The space is beautiful and minimal with a lovely vista into the trees. The service was sone of the best we’ve had anywhere in Australia. And the food - so delicious!!! Everything was fresh and tasty, and it was wonderful to watch Rosa work her magic in the kitchen. They even make their own amaro! Be sure to pick up Rosa’s cookbook as well - fantastic!

Food was delicious. Definitely need sides with main - not much vegetables provided with the main. Staff were lovely. Restaurant has a lovely setting, and it’s not noisy at all. I don't know how this place is not packed out every night of the week. It's a real gem on the west side of the city. I had very high expectations because a friend who has been there about 5 times in the past year had hyped it up a lot. The venue is beautiful... Perfect in summer with the big open windows and view of the courtyard. Pasta was delicious although a little saltier than I would like. Food was not overly rich and was not the kind of pasta that leaves you feeling uncomfortably full after. Flavours are fresh and taste like really quality ingredients. I was really looking forward to a balsamic panna cotta but it wasn't on the menu the day I went :(

Rosa's Canteen eschews cookie cutter Italian fair for a simple and paired-back menu that is simply exquisite. I've been coming close on 3 years and David has always been incredibly knowledgeable; but, it's his enthusiasm which remains unchanged. A wonderful restaurant.

Authentic Italian food that never disappoints. I've been to Rosa's restaurant with my husband every time we visit Melbourne. The food from entree to dessert always has the most delicious balance of flavours. The service is second to none and the home made cellos/liquers were impressive. I highly recommend the four cheese ravioli with burnt butter and sage sauce (if its still on the winter menu) and the poached persimmon dessert.

Exceptional service right from the start until the end. Our waiter had amazing knowledge of the menu and could easily recommend options without a second thought. Such a wonderful atmosphere! The food is super authentic and delicious, I can taste the care that Roza instills into all the parts coming together. From starting with the antipasto platter featuring zucchini fritters and homemade olives, to finishing the meal with the most decadent whipped ricotta and pistachio cannoli, Leah, Dave and the team are smooth and attentive to all the details. My wife and I went here late one evening with our two year old looking for somewhere nice that would accommodate kids and we weren't let down. They didn't have a high chair but it doesn't seem like that kind of place, quite contemporary but it wasn't an issue . Service was excellent, very friendly and great with the little one. Food was great also, pasta cooked to perfection and the peach ice cream was probably the tastiest ice cream we ever had. Would highly recommend a trip to Rosa's, tucked away down a lane it's a hidden gem worth digging out.

My fiancé took myself and our 3 month old out for dinner last night for my birthday. We both have been wanting to come to Rosas for quite some time but haven’t found time to get there. From the moment we walked in we were welcomed by Rosa, sat down and offered water. She broadly went through the menu, the wine list and completely explained the specials which was extremely helpful as you know what it’s like when you go to Italian restaurants. She answered all our questions perfectly. I was so impressed that she found the time to exclusively go through the menu with us while still being able to cater and help anyone else in the restaurant. She done such a fantastic job and made our experience “my birthday” so special. Once our order was taken we got given beautiful bread, olive oil, salt and pepper which was so nice while we waited for entrees. The food was more than amazing and the serving size was great! Water was always poured into our glass and we were always asked if we wanted more drinks off the wine list. And most of all - the wine list stayed on the table which is my absolute pet hate when I dine and I can’t read what wine to try next!! So thanks for not walking off with the wine list!! You ticked every box!! Thanks Rosa and her wonderful staff. 10/10 from me. We will be back!!

Came here for a business dinner with a colleague - close to the hotel in a typical Melbourne winter downpour! We didn't have a reservation, but found a table - possibly a little lucky, as it got pretty busy later on a Tuesday evening. We shared entrees of calamari & the salumi plate - both were excellent. My tagiatelle rabbit ragu was excellent - unlike some restaurants, theye didn't skimp on the meat. My colleagues found his prawn pasta was also excellent. Had execllent service as well - just the right level of attentiveness to make sure we didn't have to wait, without feeloing like we were being pushed out the door. Great place to spend an hour or so in nice surroundings, with great food and good service

Found Rosa's Canteen using Google, we were pleasantly surprised to find it close to our Hotel. Atmosphere and Food was quality Italian with a good selection of wines. Service was a bit off we felt, the gentleman serving us could have been a little more friendly, was a faintly aloof. We rang early but had to sit at the bar to eat...still comfortable though. Book ahead as I'd say it's constantly busy. Would have been a 5 star only for the lack of real hospitality...nonetheless I highly recommend this restaurant

What a great restaurant. The menu has 6-7 choices in each part of the meal, which have clearly been perfected. The puttanesca was divine, with fresh herbs and perfectly cooked fish. The rabbit ragu was gently cooked, falling apart and well flavoured. The filling of the cannolo was perfect, with a hint of lemon. The gelato flavours were bold. With an excellent selection of entree's to start off with, followed by a series of 5 different pastas with the highlight being the Squid Ink Tagiolini. Too much to love about this place. One of those tucked away places in one of Melbourne's alleyways Rosa's canteen didn't disappoint. Sister to Rosa's Kitchen on the other side of the CBD I wouldn't expect anything but a pleasurable time here given my previous experience at the Kitchen. I wasn't disappointed. I was welcome by a cheeful Ari who is front of house who seated me quickly, soon followed by a drink while I wait. The gentle lighting allows for a warm filter of the kitchen lights as if it was the show and we the audience. The view outside the windows shows a bit of architectural history softened by a touch of nature given by a tree that seems almost out of place amongst the concrete. The windows appear to accommodate the warm summer nights to come by opening up with blinds to cover when it becomes too bright. And on top of all that, the menu, while simple, never fails to please - fresh and full of flavour. Pricing is more than reasonable and there is definitely room to drop by for a drink after work if sitting down for a meal doesn't take your fancy.
