Had a wonderful evening here. We had the set menu with paired drinks. Loved the atmosphere and the team where very helpful, cheery and attentive. I found the food to be very satisfying, simple but very tasty and exciting. Was here for my partner for my birthday and I have a fantastic time.

One of the best Middle Eastern Restaurant north of the Yarra. Super tasty food made everything in-house served in a rustic fashion. The food is to share so a bigger group is better to try more items on the menu. We were a group of 11 and had their banquet which had small sharing plates with enough food to fill everyone including the teenagers up. The wine and drinks list is also great to cater for all. A must try.

One of the best food places in Melbourne. I was amazed by the flavors in chicken wing, chicken shish and eggplant. Staff was very friendly and also adjusted dish quantity for our group. Baklava Ice cream sandwich is must have for dessert.

We were so lucky to have dinner at this place before the owners went on vacation. If you like a variety of foods, meats, bread and dips then you cannot go wrong having the Banquet menu. I especially loved the dips at the start and the yummy mains. The service was super lovely and the atmosphere inviting. If I had to deduct any points it would be on the dessert. Only turkish delight was the option and it really wasn't to my liking but it's a taste thing more than anything. It would be lovely if there were more dessert options. However, I would certainly recommend this restaurant as a must go to if you ever get the chance. It was absolutely a delightful experience.

Have eaten 3 times here before and the food never disappoints. Great for special occasions (and casual eats) - would recommend booking as they get full. Good service, seating in and outdoors. The banquet offers a selection, enough to taste and savour each item - but bring a big appetite!

Our starters were delicious. Particularly the prawns, meatballs and batata harra. The prawns were coated in so much seasoning, and when combined with the tahini, it was an explosion of flavour. The meatballs were so soft and the added yoghurt on top was an excellent choice. The batata harra is something you need to order anytime you see it on the menu. Perfectly crispy on the outside and the seasoning is spot on. We were really excited for our mains when we saw how tasty the starters were. Unfortunately they were slightly disappointing. The eggplant was cold (it may be traditionally served that way but I’d prefer warm) and we found it was just too oily. The lamb was too tough to cut but was softer once eaten. The seasoning itself was just okay, it definitely needed the dressing to make it something special. The Iranian dressing consists of honey and vinegar - acidic scent, sweet taste. The barramundi was probably the best main. Crispy skin, tender flesh falling off its bones, and the seasoning was simple but effective. The dessert was okay, I enjoyed the smoothness of the pudding but nothing special. Next time I’d order something different. I still absolutely recommend a visit to Rumi if you get the chance. You are bound to enjoy the bursts of flavours that come through their dishes.

Went there for dinner last night. They were very welcoming and the service was attentive. Unfortunately they fell short of our expectations. A basic thing like bread, that is supposed to be a staple of middle eastern cuisine, was dry and hard. We also got the cauliflower, which was fine, but extremely salty. All in all it’s not bad, but I was expecting more for that price.

I don’t want to give 3 stars because the service was good but the food was definitely 3 stars for me. The shared set menu was $69 per person ( valentines day) which is a good price, however, the food was quite simple and there wasn’t really any unique or wow factor. When we read the menu, it sounded quite extravagant but when it arrived, it didn’t seem like that unfortunately. Also, the sparkling water was $15!! They ask you if you want sparkling or still and we said sparkling without really knowing it was that much. I genuinely believe this can be mentioned or price really needs to be lowered because that’s really expensive. Overall service was friendly, thank you!

The classic banquet they have on offer is amazing. The flavor combinations are so well crafted. Love the modern take on Lebanese food while still being firmly grounded in traditional recipes. The lamb shoulder was out of this world good, it just effortlessly falls of the bone! Overall incredible dining experience that I would recommend to anyone. And their cocktails are also very good and unique!

Amazing food and great service. We ordered 5 dishes and 2 drinks - all up $120 - very worth it. We ordered: Entree: Sigara Boregi. Mains: Caramelised eggplant, Mante (turkish dumpling - amazing flavours) and Advieh marinated lamb shoulder (the complementary sauce was amazing with soft tender meat!!),.Dessert: Baklava Ice cream sandwich - great finisher to a beautiful meal - comes as 2 sandwich so great to share with a friend. Drinks: Iced Beirutea (would recommend for Summer - very refreshing. I believe their tea mix is homemade) and Remedy Gin & Tonic. Perfect middle eastern food right in your doorstep. Note: Apologies for the dark photos, the poor lighting was not kind to me.

Few things we can improve: (1) ambiance: incorporate that smoky, Rose and coffee filled aromas of the laneways found in middle-easter countries (2) music: we can get a bit more middle eastern and some instrumental music from Iran (3) bread: the rolls in glass is a bit cliche. What else do you want when you go out for dinner! The interesting food is great, it’s done very well, it tastes good and the price is reasonable. The service is very attentive, especially for the guy who runs the friendly and helpful front desk, the girl is a bit new! We ordered squid and hummus, meatballs, grilled clams and other things, they are delicious! We can't really make a mistake! Will definitely come back again and will recommend this place to anyone!

Went with a large group of people, so we got to try most of the dishes on the menu. Food was pretty good, Middle Eastern fare. Tended to blend together after a while, but the standouts were the chicken wings (the pepper and flavour was unique), and the charcoaled cauliflower! Decor was nice, restaurant was spacious. We had a large table and corner of the restaurant to ourselves. Staff were helpful and friendly. All round a great experience here.

Great modern middle eastern. When you want halal food but are sick of going to the local kebab shop. More upmarket than that but still relaxed. If you don’t eat anything with a face, then keep your eyes peeled for their quarterly vegan feasts. Sooooooo good. Alcohol is served here but of course is optional. Just want to flag this for people with a more conservative approach to halal eateries. All welcome regardless of any persuasion. I just think this place is really cool and invite you to try it for yourself.

This is my favourite place to enjoy Middle Eastern cuisine because every visit has been consistently awesome on so many levels. Tonight I am amongst vegetarians / pescatarians so there was no meat for the evening. We opened the night with the much loved Sigara Boregi - 3-cheese haloumi, feta and kasseri - wrapped in cigar-shaped pastry. Next the charcoal barbecued king prawns arrived on a bed of avocado sauce and chilli oil, giving this dish a little kick. In rapid succession came the steamed trout, mushroom Iskander and the freekeh salad. Every dish was a gleeful adventure for the taste buds. Deserving special mention is the mushroom Iskander, a creation of labne, giant mushrooms, tomato based puree on toast served in the pan - amazing! We capped off the night with pistachio halva and dates stuffed with labne. The rose petal and mint teas smoothly complemented the desserts. The friendly, helpful service starts from the moment we enter and remains attentive until the door is opened to see us out. Even in the past when there were two sittings, the food and beverages were delivered incredibly fast. The dimmed lighting and moderately quiet setting is great for conversations on a night out with family and friends or a date night. Personally I love the little touches that complete the environment, including the beautiful water jugs and tea glasses.

A nice night out. Enjoyed the Sultans negroni. We had the basic feast for $50pp. Enjoyed all the dishes except the deep fried prawns they were not good. The measures were great and not too much food over 12 dishes. The baklava ice cream sandwich was scrumptious. Good alternative to Hellenic republic up the road. Bon appetito.

Wow! Had such a great experience at Rumi for my sisters birthday I will definitely be going back! The 6 of us shared a banquet, which I tend to think is the best option at a place like this where the food is meant to be shared. Each dish was perfectly presented and absolutely delicious. Each element of each dish was of high quality, right down to the salt and the olive oil which was the best olive oil I’ve ever tasted. The drinks list was great with delicious cocktails, mocktails and wine to choose from. Staff were excellent and friendly. At $51 per person for the banquet it was well worth it, and I would highly recommend Rumi to anyone.

Exquisite mix of flavours and spices, with a few inventive dishes. Excellent customer service. Fairly limited menu but dishes we had didn't disappoint. Enjoyed bread and dips, lamb, veal, chicken wings dishes and Persian fairy floss, dates and baklava for dessert. Four stars instead of five only as it was quite pricey and portion sizes were only moderate size. This was a drawback considering hospitality and generosity of Lebanese culture. Regardless, highly recommended, especially for a date night or special event.

Had such a fantastic celebratory meal here last night. Highly recommend the banquet, perfect (perhaps a little too much, but since when was that a problem?) amount of food at a very reasonable price. Had a Friday night dinner at Rumi recently. You can rely on the food always being great , albeit too salty for my palate. You know the type where you walk up at 2am after dreaming you’re in the desert and need to get up to down an entire glass of water. The atmosphere was good but the service was as minimal as you can get. More like what you see on TV at an American diner. But we were stilled asked to tip. But here is the reason after years of loving Rumi we won’t be going back. The windowless absolutely reeked all evening (for both genders). I’ve subsequently heard that’s the common occurrence. Think fermented cabbage or those yellow urinal things. By the end of the night it permeated into the restaurant. Please sort it out Rumi so you can go back to being the great restaurant you once were.

We had a meal delivery via Providoor during lockdown. The food was amazing. The presentation of the pack was excellent, and the preparation required to plate up a delicious meal was very simple. I’ve dined at Rumi twice now, both for bigger group bookings. The service, food and ambiance here is just perfect! From the booking through to settling the bill - the team managing and serving are incredible. Obviously the food is also top notch. But Eddie is just incredible. The communication and flexibility he provided through post-lockdown restrictions was outstanding. And I love that he manages bookings back of house, but then he’s also there to welcome you on the night. It’s that authentic and personal touch that makes you so loyal to a restaurant. Thanks guys!!

Rumi has been our family favourite for nearly 14 years. We have visited for celebrations, for work functions and just to escape cooking at home. In the early days Joseph introduced our family to eating goat and it now is something we cook ourselves. They introduced me to Arak the aniseed aperitif that I seek out now each time we visit. The dishes we go back for are the slow cooked lamb, the quail, the cauliflower and rice. Sometimes if we’re lucky the rice will have the Tahdig and we feel very lucky. To finish we always have macadamia baklava ice cream. If they ever take it off the menu I will be very sad. Joseph and his staff, at his various restaurants, have always made us feel like family - welcomed and cared for. I hope they survive Lockdown 5 and know that their community wants them to flourish.

I can't imagine why Rumi doesn't have 5 stars across the board. Everything about Rumi is love. The staff are warm and generous and the food is complex in its simplicity, flavours and presentation - absolutely delicious. Rumi is our 'go to' for special nights out and our #1 when recommending a restaurant to out-of-town guests. Try a few share dishes or just jump in and order the banquet. You won't be disappointed.

Busy and loud lots of chatty happy customers. Booking would be recommended, I waited 20 minutes as a 'walk in'. Fabulous customer service. Barramundi and shoulder of lamb, side of cabbage salad which took me by surprise, really nice. Great wine list, beers are not your usual CUB. My waitress (Swedish) was very knowledge of the food and great advice what to have as first visit. She also arranged a tasting plate for desserts. Terrific all round.

I’m currently vegan and they have a few options that you could enjoy if this your way... however... the great memory that I have of their lamb makes me wanna go back to eat it! Nourishing, delicious food that made our night, with warm herb cheese cigars, rich tomato eggplant goodness, creamy delightful labne - it was all so, so, good. The staff are happy, helpful and charming. Rumi has set up a big outdoor area under a marquis with some fairy lights as part of COVID normal, it was easy and comfortable to dine under. Very happy to be able to return here post lockdown and enjoy dinner in the twilight hours outside.

There was plenty of food, all delicious. I would return just for a plate of the chicken wings!! The Turkish Delight was delicious, and the liqueurs matched with the dessert plate were beautiful, particularly the Green Walnut liqueur with the Halva.

The restaurant was busy for a Wednesday night which is a good sign. My table ordered a variety of food and we shared several dishes. I really enjoyed the almond tahini dip, rice pilaf and meatballs. My favourite for the evening was the baklava icecream sandwich; it was divine. The only thing I didn't like, was the orange blossom tea, I found it to be almost artificial in flavour and I couldn't drink it. Classy vegan-friendly food. And the best modern Middle Eastern food I’ve ever had. We had the Valentine’s Day 4-course vegan banquet and were blown away by each course. Tapas-sized, each had great flavours, beautifully plated. Standouts in an impressive selection were the 2 eggplant dishes - one in its own skin hardened to a shell. Also the grilled white eggplant which was subtly but superbly flavored. The almond pudding dessert was to die for. And order some tea, which tastes much like any other tea but is presented to you with ceremony in a gorgeous Arabic tray - a wonderful and very classy touch. The decor is elegant casual. Carved out Arabic writing on wooden panels (Kahlil Gibran’s poetry) uplift a large spacious room. I recommend you get a cushioned seat along the wall as the hard wooden chairs were the only disappointment of the night.

Suggestion -Staff to keep in mind when being asked for takeaway containers, to take a mental check on how much food is there already for us and attend to give us the take away containers all in one go -Rearrange seating spaces; for a large party of people, especially for such a special occasion could of done with a private room, would of been pleasant.

I love Middle Eastern cuisine, but sometimes being a sole diner, it can be challenging having the full portion myself. The staff at Rumi kindly offered half portion of the main dishes which was perfect. I had the beautifully cooked slow roast lamb and freekeh salad. For dessert I had the medjool dates stuffed with burnt orange labne and topped with pistaschio as well as the Mountain tea made of rose, mint and chamomile.The staff were very friendly. When I booked a table I advised the restaurant that I had food allergies and they were able to check dishes that were suitable for me. When I was dining, I didn't feel much on my own as the staff came to check up on how I as doing and had short chats every now and again. Highly recommended.
