Comments of Sault Restaurant Daylesford

Great service and great food!
We had our 10month old with us and the staff were great, gave her crayons which she held and entertained herself while we ate. Some came by and entertained her too which was lovely. Did the 7 course meal tonight and the 2 stand out dishes were the duck breast and beef eye-fillet. We requested a minor change to our dessert which they were happy to do. Thank you Sault team!

My wife and I celebrated her 30th birthday here and it did not disappoint! Amazingly well thought out course of food so freshly and thoughtfully prepared. We were advised that all produce is sourced locally on their farm where possible. Great local wine on offer also. The dessert number we had with the Vietnamese coffee drops was unbelievable. Might I say, possibly the best fine dining dessert I’ve ever had. Hats off to the chef!
M. T.
We had the 3 course meal each and absolutely loved it. Every dish was enjoyable.
We started off with the beef tartare that’s topped off with fried crispy potato instead of the traditional egg yolk and the addition crunch makes it so much more delightful! How innovative.
We had the scallops and pork belly for our firsts. The char on the scallops accompanied by the emulsion sauce and sliced radish was fantastic. Not to mention the combination of pork belly and beetroot sauce.
My partner said that the lamb dish was probably one of the best lamb mains he have had in Australia and my favourite was definitely the eye fillet.
The highlight is the final dish which is the chocolate with Vietnamese coffee curd and mandarin slices. The dense, intense flavour of the chocolate is such a perfect match with the citrusy of the mandarin.
Would definitely come back again if we had the chance! Fantastic experience 🙌

Took my fiancé to Sault to ease the pain of having to postpone our wedding for the second time. I’m glad we chose this wonderful place to spend our evening. Not only was the food incredible, every single staff member we interacted with was so genuinely lovely, passionate, and accommodating. Thank you so much!
B.
My wife and I dined here and very much enjoyed the 7 course menu. The food was excellent and the service mostly good.
The venue is beautiful, albeit a bit noisy with the timber floor.
The evening set us back approximately $400 for the night which was ok for a special evening. . The waiter prompting for a tip for the staff when handing us the bill was very much not 5 star. .
Would I recommend the restaurant to others …yes.
Would we dine here again …probably not.
C. W.
We really enjoyed our lunch. The staff were friendly and the food exceptional. We will be making our way back!

Took a midweek getaway to Daylesford and got a chance to try Sault thanks to my partner.
Would recommend arriving a little early just to take in the surrounds, have a wander through their garden and veggie patch.
The staff were all extremely courteous and friendly to chat to. The setting was lovely, with great views out of the restaurant over the lake, and lucky for us it was just in time for the sunset.
The food was delicious and we enjoyed every little bit!
Would love to come back again when we have the chance.

Such an amazing venue, and the staff and owners are lovely. Well worth a visit to their restaurant, sunflower and lavender field and in lockdown, a produce stall!
The four course tasting dinner is exquisite- lots of local produce used, and I’ve noticed the menu changes very frequently. We had one with gluten free dietary requirements, and the wait staff carefully explained which parts were substituted and how they changed the dish.
Interior is wonderfully spacious and airy, with awesome views over a lake and fields. Particular shoutout to Jodi, who takes so much care and pride in her work and the food.

I visited Sault in 2019 and thoroughly enjoyed the whole fine dining experience. The food was exceptional, service amazing and presentation of the food was stunning. Fast forward to Feb 2022, we visited again with the same high expectation. However, a bit has changed since our last visit. The service was not what it was, (understand it is a tough time for the hospitality industry) however the staff seemed uninterested and did not make us feel welcome at all. The walkthrough of the menu was rushed and not much background on the food was given. We did the tasting menu (both now and in 2019) and prior we were given lovely explanation of what came from the gardens and what we should get out of the dish. The presentation of the food was still incredible and the produce is fantastic but lacked any punch or any flavor experiences. The restaurant had more of "Instagram" vibe with more interest paid to possibly those that came to take photos of the gardens and visit the restaurant, rather than the other guests. Overall for the price paid I didn't think it was worth it. Having visited the Lake House and other restaurants in Daylesford that weekend. I won't be rushing back anytime soon.
J. B.
The food and experience was delightful. The food was beautiful highly recommend if you love quality local produce. The staff were fantastic.

Such a beautiful place to experience on a visit to the Daylesford area. Dining at Sault is not cheap however it's worth it for the lovely food and scenery experience. The staff were really attentive and thoughtful. They also stock some local products for purchase which was great to see.

I visited Sault way back in 2016 with my parents and we were all blown away by the food then. I remembered very clearly that i had a dessert mochi dish which was mind blowing. The venue was nice and quiet and the service was very upmarket and professional.
This time round, my husband and I visited sault once again for our honeymoon. Sad to say, we were rather disappointed with the food. Don't get me wrong.. the dishes were all cooked well. However, we were just not blown away like our first visit. The flavours were just one dimensional. The service was good but it was more of a casual style despite paying fine dining prices. The place was bustling on a Sunday evening and with all the hard wood around, my husband and i had to raise our voices when we chat.
Don't get me wrong, Sault is definitely a place worth visiting but personally, I don't think I would go back again.

Visited this famous countryside restaurant of VIC last month. The vibe was warm and cozy. The estate is well-known with their garden but by the time we visited, it was dark already so did not really have the chance to enjoy the view.
2 of us decided to go for the 6 course degustation menu, $120/pp. The food was good, but not great.. and not worth it as well. What I meant here is the dishes were cooked from great to perfect, the steak was cook perfectly medium rare, duck breast was good, the cherry tomatoes for the entree were fresh. However it was not a WOW with the food. I have been tried a few of the degustation menu of some restaurants in Melbourne and what impressed me about this kind of dining is the dishes are often innovative which surprised the dinners. But this is not happened in Sault. And that is what I meant. What’s more, 6 courses but 1 is cherry tomatoes salad for the entree, and 2 courses are sorbet.. So $120 is not well worth.
The vibe is not bad too but not get me the welcoming feeling. We were served by totally 5 different staffs for the night. One of them told us that the restaurant is always busy during the year and was fully booked for the weekends till next month.. Maybe I understand now..
F.
Really nice place with good food. It was nice to go for lunch, we could enjoy the view of the lake
A. L.
Invited by a mate to have lunch here, we had an amazing dining experience and then a lot of fun walking around the estate. We tried the 3 course set and it was amazing, a lot of the ingredients are sourced from the estate or locally so it's as fresh as it can get. One of my favourite dish was the beef tartare, definitely one of the best I've tried in Melbourne. You could tell how fresh the steak was by the delicious beefy flavour. Another dish that was outstanding was the eggplant which incorporated honey from the bee hives from the estate, so delicious.
Once you have finished eating you can take a stroll around the estate where there is a beautiful lavender garden.
I highly recommend trying this place !
A.
Easily one of the top 5 restaurant experiences in Aus. Thought and care is placed into every item, we could even view the kitchen staff picking fresh items from the garden that went onto our plate. Beautiful setting and wonderful staff.
J. C.
Loved our experience here. The flavors were very different but all worked well together. My favorite was the pea parfait and strawberry meringue. Service was also perfect. Would come back for another special occasion.
M. R.
Sault Restaurant did not disappoint. The entrance and grounds of this property are so beautiful especially at sunset. Plenty of parking available which overlooks the lavender field and lake. The inside of the restaurant has a lovely sitting area. As we were dining for a special occasion all the staff went above and beyond to wish a happy birthday and even supplied a little birthday treat. All the food was just sensational. Can not fault anything that came out on our plate. We did the 3 course option and the portion sizes were not small at all as we were expecting it to be being a fine dining experience . We left very full. Plating of the food was so beautiful and having the wait staff explain how most of the produce is grown on site or locally and by pointing out the gardens from where we were sitting was lovely where it was picked daily.
Will certainly be back again.
G. J.
As others have noted this was good, well cooked food but no wow for the money.
We had the four course. Beef tartare was good but the ?sauce underneath was a bit like chutney, didn’t quite work. There was no scallops so they replaced with “prawn mouse” which were actually minced prawns wrapped in a Swiss chard leaf. The taramasalata underneath was delicious, but so much water came out of the chard it diluted it. There was a very nicely cooked steak and delicious potatoes. The cheese dessert was ok. Holy goat cheese with dried cherries and a tuille.
I’m not sure if it was the spacing of tables (covid) or what but not much atmosphere and the blinds were down so couldn’t enjoy the lake view.
Other than no hook in the toilet for your hand bag there was nothing really at fault here. But for the cost you expect wow.
J. A.
Food, drinks and service at Sault are all exceptional.
We went as a group and ordered the 6 course tasting menu. It was a lot of food, but didn't leave us feeling like we over-ate. Every dish was delicious, even the side salad of greens.
M. O.
The venue and food was exceptional. Went on a nice summer day and the weather was just excellent. It's great value for money - it's expensive but the quality of the food meets expectations. Can definitely recommend coming here to try it out.
M. G.
If you’re ever in Daylesford or even if you have no plans to go visit, just make sure to add Sault to your to go list. The venue is absolutely stunning with their lavender fields, the lake, and the food is equally delicious as it is beautiful. You can tell, the amount of care and thought put into each dish with their focus on using fresh & seasonal produce including that from their own garden. We got the 3 course meal so we could try as many dishes from the menu, with an accompanying cocktail. Thank you to the staff for the amazing service
J. B.
Food was amazing, however portions are small (think quality over quantity). We really appreciated how well they were able to handle some pretty tricky food allergies, extra kudos there. Staff were always attentive and very friendly. The venue is beautiful, the main dining room is open but not too noisy. There's some nice couches to sit in front of the fireplace in Winter, too. Dinner is either 3, 4 or 7 (tasting) courses but there is a great selection to choose from. Overall very impressive!

I was fortunate enough to attend my cousin's wedding at this venue 2 weekends ago and it was an amazing experience on every count.
As I was maid of honour, I did some last minute running around with the bride and groom the day before the wedding and Jodie was so professional & delightful at the handover.
On the day of the wedding, the entire place was picturesque. Bride squad was greeted at the car with sparkling water, extra care was taken to serve drinks and canapes to the bridal party during photos, staff were friendly, the food was ABSOLUTELY INCREDIBLE!
I'm from Sydney but I'm definitely looking forward to another visit to Sault.
Everything was a dream (and it wasn't even my wedding day) :)
N. T.
Beautiful location, lovely staff, but unfortunately nobody remembered to turn the ac on, so terribly stuffy for a couple of hours. Might I suggest in future you listen to your guests rather than telling them off for opening doors and windows?
Apart from that, it was lovely!
T. D.
Absolutely incredible! From the first class service to the delicious meals. Absolutely faultless. I cannot wait to return. Fabulous, just fabulous!!
D.
Incredible food and beautiful surroundings. The cured king fish, and the beef tartare were just so damn good. Also one of the best steaks I have ever had. Nice to watch the roos graze on the grounds as you enjoy your meal and a local wine.
H. K.
Love this restaurant
All the food they serve are amazing
Especially the eye fillet steak with black garlic sauce(I'm not sure about it) was amazing.
Also dessert was fabulous.
I'd like to go back for dinner :)
Highly recommend!

Fine dining. Well prepared. Local. Quality ingredients. Perfect serving sizes. I dont recommend ordering the extras. (Four course meal is about as filling as a medium quarter pounder meal.). $250 for two people. Unbelievable value given the quality of ingredients and location. Worth making a trip to dalesford for going to this restaurant alone. I rate this place up there with 2-3 chef hat restaurants. The food is not pretentious. Honest. Local done right. The litmus test: The beef tartare has that clean umami taste (similar to fresh lean akami tuna sashimi). They get it right.
R. T. (.
Always an amazing experience. Can't recommend the tasting menu and matching wines enough!
A. I.
Service, food all excellent and delicious. Gorgeous sunset overlooking lake like glass tonight.
C. S.
Had the wedding of our son and his wife with family and friends, the service was fabulous and the food very good. A place highly recommended.
R. R.
Beautiful picturesque venue with an aromatic lavender field leading to the chapel.
J. F.
Upon arriving at Sault you are greeted by their stunning grounds which are extremely picturesque.
The food and service are on par with how amazing the grounds look.
We had the four course menu, definitely recommend this to taste a lot of their menu.
Highly recommend as one of your stops on your next visit to Daylesford.
J. V.
Our first visit to Daylesford in years and the highlight of the trip was our visit to Sault. Great views, welcoming staff and of course highlighted by an extensive winelist and beautifully prepared food. Well worth a visit
B. N.
Incredible food, drinks, service and ambience! My wife and I ate there this past Saturday night. Staying in Daylesford, we were initially a little reluctant to book a place 'out of town' (albeit 8km and 5mins) as there's so many great place to eat within walking distance, when you stay in town. Well I am so glad that we did. We both had the 3 Course menu, complimented by a lovely local Macedon Ranges red wine. Jodi, the owner, plus her husband (working the bar) oversee the entire operation, with fantastic energy and support of their staff. The food quality and ambience was fantastic and I'd highly recommend stopping in for a lunch , dinner or booking a function.
H. C.
Lovely service, great food and even managed to cater to a low FODMAP diet. If anything, bit pricey for the 3-course menu. I’m still dreaming about the panna cotta, wow. 🤤
S. Y.
Beautiful foos. Beautiful services! They also have stunning view of their farm! Worth with the drive all away from Melbourne CBD. This is really a beautiful spot! If you’re passing by Daylesford, you have to come to the restaurant.
C. T.
Fantastic place for a special occasion. Every meal we had was awesome and we spent good time wandering around the estate which had a beautiful view.
M. D.
Had the duck tonight and it was great, great hospitality and a great location. So why not 5 stars, price per portion ratio is way off. The food was good but just to little of it. The desert, I'll be honest with you, very pretty but very average in taste.
H. K.
Worth the drive to Daylesford for a three course lunch that was delicious 😋 good sizes so you have room to taste more ! The cheese dishes were superb and I highly recommend you visit
A. B.
Amazing place, we were able to eat vegetarian and the food was plate licking good. Perfect place for couples or small groups. Staff were attentive and polite. What you want from a fine dining experience. Thanks for making our night amazing. We definitely will be coming back.
T. V.
Excellent service. Food was excellent. We had the 2 course meal with one side and were so full we couldn't add dessert. Coffees were perfect as well.
Clean premises. Beautiful views. Bathroom could do with a renovation to reach the standard of the restaurant however they were clean.
Definitely worth a visit and the cost of the meals are reasonable for the quality of food and service.
Definitely fine dining.
B. C.
This is my new favourite restaurant since returning to Australia. Food well presented and delicious, staff attentive and warm. Not rushed with our food, given options with tasting menus..good value.

To get to Sault, it's a 5-6 minutes drive from Daylesford heading south. The parking area is huge and the ground is beautifully maintained. On the day of my visit, I was unlucky to get a puncture on my 2 weeks old BMW from a huge nail as I drove through the gate - but that's another story. We had the 7 course tasting menu at $110pp. The highlight for me was the fourth course, quail breast (see photo) and the chocolate dessert finished off a great night. The evening began with the first two courses I found lacking in flavor but once the third course arrived (kingfish, finger lime, truffle, etc.), the blandness of the entrees were a distance memory. Aside from a well designed and executed menu, Sault had a well drilled professional waiting staff that made the evening a memorable experience.
B. W.
Thank you very much team for a fantastic night. The food, environment and ambience is amazing and I'd highly recommend this venue for anyone lucky enough to come past. A special call out to Peter for going above and beyond to look after us.

Our wedding at Sault was an absolute dream. The beauty of the grounds and the location, was superseded only by the love and passion of Jodi and her entire team who made the lead up to the event, and the day itself flawless. This is the most incredible venue, with breathtaking views, incredible food and wonderful service.
Thank you for making our wedding dreams come true!
S. W.
I have been coming to Sault for many years, traditionally you could say.
Each year I come the menu changes seasonally, one of the many things to love about Sault.
The staff are divine, the owner Jodi a real life fairy! She is so beautiful and warming, as is Sault! A world class restaurant with magical food, picked fresh each day from their kitchen garden. Quality over quantity I like to say!
Vegetarian/ Vegan options are available and just 70minutes drive from Melbourne’s CBD. Why wouldn’t you add Sault to your list of places to wine & dine?! 10/10 in my opinion xx
S.
Fantastic dining. Well worth a visit. Impeccable service. Great wines. Food is superb. 5 star dining. The venue is amazing.
R. M.
Sualt Restaurant is a gem hidden in Daylesford, located in a beautiful and picturesque building by a lake.
the Food is delicious and stands up far above other restaurants for similar price.
s.
Food was fantastic, service was second to none. A fantastic experience all round
M. T.
The degustation menu was fantastic. Great views with delicious local produce. Amazing experience. It's a bit away from the town centre but the travel was definitely worth it.
S.
I gave this rating as per fine dining experience. Venue is beautiful and unique, food is okay but service was let down. As we went on Wednesday night, Waiter didn’t mention the $75 two courses promotion when he introduced the menu until I brought it up as I found this information from the web when I placed the booking and we weren't very hungry that day. As soon as the waiter heard us order the promotion two courses, the smile disappeared and left with swift snobby service, didn’t check the table during the meal. I guessed those who had wonderful experience must ordered at least 3 courses.
E. D. S.
Amazing restaurant, service was magnificent and food was delicious 😋
D. W.
Unfortunately not a great experience or wow for us. Initially we walked in and were wanting to sit by the window and with free tables we thought that would be easy. Unfortunately not to be.
Then the service was not the level we expected for a reasonably high priced fine dining.
We went for the 4 course meal and some parts were good, nothing was wow. And some were just ok.
We asked for recommendations of a really great red to accompany the rib eye and to be honest we couldn’t even finish the glass as it was simply awful.
I was really disappointed after reading reviews.
F. D.
Absolute perfection. Service, food, and setting outstanding.
A. D.
My partner and I made the road trip to Daylesford yesterday specifically to dine and Sault, and it was well worth the visit!
It's set in the most gorgeous countryside location, with both a lavender field and sunflower field on site. It's easy to see why people get their wedding photos taken here - it's so beautiful.
We were greeted by friendly, yet professional waitress who was attentive throughout (but not pushy - we didn't feel rushed through the meal). The restaurant itself is nice and spacious, we only wished we had a window seat but it was busy. It's also very Covid-safe.
Highlights of the meal for both of us was the steak. It was a high quality cut that was so soft and melt in the mouth. We also really enjoyed the scallops entrée - they were cooked to perfection.
Overall, I couldn't recommend Sault enough if you are wanting a nice day out with delicious food.
I. F.
One of the best fine dinning experiences we have had in Melbourne. Completely worth it!
C. C.
Well worth the visit. Book ahead if wanting to eat. They don't do take away coffee.
E.
My goodness, this food if I can even call it that is incredible. So creative and presented just beautifully. I still can't figure out how they get the flavours this delicious. I was super lucky to win a competition and got to try the 7 course tasting menu. We could not decide which one was our favourite. They were all so different and so delicious. Taste explosion!!! Aside from the amazing food. I just cannot get over the property. It is so beautiful. Every direction you look it is simply stunning. We love that a lot of your food is grown on the property too. So fresh and organic.
I have told everyone how good your food is and that they must make the trip when they can!! Thank you for your wonderful service and for your creativity in the kitchen. We can't wait to come back!!! Thank you so so much!!!
H. V.
We had a fantastic four course dinner at Sault. The meal included memorable and interesting flavours, not to mention generous portion sizes. The staff and setting were also wonderful.
L. W.
We celebrated my husbands birthday last night at Sault and WOW what a restaurant. I have been there a few times but this was my husbands first time and he was blown away by the magnificent service and delicious food. So many wonderful flavours, fresh produce and amazing presentation. Really, you need go to this place, it just keeps getting better and better.
B. G.
The service was fantastic, the views spectacular at sunset and the Spanish menu was above par with tasteful presentaion, though oily and expectations were high yet not quite delivered. Overall lovely experience.
B. B.
Came here for a lunch. We were still full from breakfast so just ordered the 3 course menu. You have the option to tick 3 or 4 items or do the various tasting menus with or without matching wines. All the food was super tasty. Pork belly was crisp and flavourful, and the eye fillet was delicious with the jus. Only minor gripe was the waiter, he was a bit pretentious, could be more relaxed? Beautiful views of the home garden and lavender fields!!
M. N.
Entice yourself with a seasonal menu using Daylesfords freshest produce. The restaurant is situated just under 80 minutes from Melbourne CBD and it sits on an amazing estate with lavender fields and a gorgeous autumn foliage backdrop overlooking a lake.
The restaurant is perfect for lunch, dinner or any special occasion. They have an extensive drinks list to pair with the dishes on the menu. Have the option to select either a 3 or 4 course menu from the various selections on the menu.
We started off with beef tartare and the cured ocean trout which was beautifully presented and moved on to scallops, cod roe, potato, yuzu and alliums. The scallops were an absolute highlight and I was impressed with the dish. For mains, we had the Wagyu M7 and the duck and it was really good. Our meal ended with a sweet ending, the miso parfait, ginger crumb and rhubarb. The flavours were amazing and the parfait was silky smooth.
Overall, it was a flawless experience and would highly recommend this place. We ended our experience at Sault by taking a walk through lavender fields and autumn foliage which made it perfect.
J. T.
Great service, interesting menu. Wonderful experience overall.

My partner and I had a fantastic dining experience. Excellent food, staff and ambiance. We had the 4 course set menu, amazing value for money. Highly recommend!

On the outskirts of Daylesford a beautiful heritage building stands. It is a 5 star restaurant called Sault on the lake. We were fortunate enough to be guests at a wedding that was held in an elaborate barn 50 meters from the restaurant. We then strolled through a field of lilacs to Sault restaurant where we were served beverages and plentiful mouthwatering canapes. Dinner consisted of a three course degustation of gourmet calibre cuisine. The staff were attentive and pleasant. The atmosphere warm and inviting with splendid views of the lake. I would recommend to anyone for an event or a lunch or dinner in the countryside. I was very satisfyingly impressed. Compliments to the proprieters of Sault, thankyou for the experience.
P. J.
Fresh and delicious food paired with a stunning view.
J. S.
This is actually a reasonably priced restaurant for what you get - locally produced food, farm to table sort of thing, beautifully presented meals and a big selection of wine. Staff are very professional but welcoming and the views and wider estate are stunning especially at golden hour.
D. B.
My husband and I booked the 7 course tasting for our anniversary. It was one of the best meals we've ever had. Amazing and delicious, good quality everything. Would definitely come back. Great experience
M. F.
Had the vegan degustation! And it was absolutely amazing :)
T. D.
We had our wedding at Sault on the 23rd of November, 2019. It could've have been a better experience! Jodie (the event manager) was perfect and made sure everything ran smoothly from start to finish. The service was exceptional, the food delicious and the venue is simply gorgeous. We can't thank them enough for such an amazing wedding experience. Highly recommended.
C. W.
I loved the experience and attention to details.
Very well presented dishes and I loved the quality of service as well.
My calamari was perfectly cooked, flavours was well balanced.
The flathead is a little over cooked, but I was satisfied with the overall experience. Would love to visit again.
M. L.
If you like nice things - this is a must. Food was simply delicious and beautifully presented. The best meal I can remember and some special hospitality to boot. Can't wait to visit again soon :)
O. G.
Stopped over for some great photos of the gardens..we were unable to get a table as it was all booked.out..will.try again
L. C.
First class service, beautiful food and amazing view.

I had an amazing dinner at Sault. My favourite was the beef eye fillet and the strawberry desserts. A backdrop of amazing landscape and beautiful lavender fields. Staff made an error during our orders and missed my wife's 2nd course, but it was probably an honest mistake. Nevertheless the delightful dishes and awesome landscape makes it worthwhile.
M. P.
Hubby and I stumbled across Sault in our quest to out-do each other as to who could find the best surprise restaurant for each others birthdays. He won! That was about 10 years ago and since then it has been our 'go to' restaurant when taking family and friends out for dinner / lunch. The food is superb and seasonal so there is always something new - spring/summer is completely different from autumn/winter, which is good as it gives you a good reason to go back again and again. The welcome and service is warm and friendly. In all the times we have dined there, not once has there been any complaint. We live over an hour from Sault but it is well worth the drive to dine there.
J. S.
Wow! Sault is just a beautiful place!
We had a 3 course VEGAN meal and it was divine. They also do a 7 course vegan/vegetarian tasting menu (along with non-veg options) which I would LOVE to come back and try next time.
Before our courses we were given freshly baked bread with olive oil - amazing. The courses themselves were fresh, tasty and varied. Many of the ingredients are locally sourced or come straight from the Sault kitchen garden! Including the edible flowers which are just so pretty!
Jodi and the team are so lovely. They'll definitely make you feel welcome. Before or after your meal you MUST have a walk around the gardens - they lavender fields and lake are great for an Insta photo opp hehe ;)
Loved it so much I'm already planning my next trip to Daylesford!
R. P.
Great meal at one of the best degustation prices we have ever come across. Terrific front of house service.
P. C.
This is one of my favorite restaurants to visit. I manage a few visits a year and like to buy gift vouchers for friends and loved ones to enjoy. The food is fantastic, the service exceptional, the property and view from the restaurant a perfectly gorgeous setting. One of the best things I like, is I find the seating arrangement intimate. You can enjoy a conversation with whoever is at your table without feeling the entire restaurant is part of the conversation. Highly recommended.
J. L.
We had dinner at Sault last night. What a beautiful restaurant! The food is delicious and the view is absolutely breath taking. That’s why I give 3 stars. I love my food, but my hubby was complain about his main course is cold. However We have been to few fine dinning restaurants in Victoria this one is not the one I will recommend you to go. Put this way, it’s a restaurant you come once but won’t wanna go back again. Due to the poor service we’ve got from last night. The waiter is friendly but no personality and do not engage with customers. The guy who served us has no smiling no service skills. The way he came cross make us feel he doesn’t enjoy his job just want to serve the food and get rid of the dinners. It’s such a beautiful historic restaurant at lest he can tell us a bit more about the garden and the local food or where did the chef get their products from. etc. when we asking him questions he can’t wait to finish clean our plates and go. Or in the rush!! As this is a fine dining restaurant we expecta high quality service as the food. I will recommend the owner retrained some of your waiters and bring some enthusiasm in the restaurant.

Wonderful experience. Everything was delightful.

My husband and I got married at beautiful Sault Restaurant and could not recommend it more highly - Jodie and Damien were a dream to work with and you can tell that they genuinely care about those who visit. The venue itself is stunning, and the food and service was flawless. We are looking forward to returning on our 1st anniversary to reminisce!
J. J.
A delicious 3-course meal, served in a beautiful setting, with exceptional service! In addition, the staff were very helpful when it came to my dietary requirements. I was also so pleased to be offered a scrumptious dessert, even after requesting a gf/df option - more often than not restaurants will offer lack lustre "sorbet" - not at Sault! I highly recommend Sault for a fine dining, dietary requirement friendly meal in a picturesque location.

Yum food and great service

Champion of fresh produce of Daylesford. Food was delicious and serving sizes were spot on. Staff were great and really attentive, service was on par with two hat restaurants.
L. K.
My daughter had her wedding here Saturday and it was lovely. Everything was total perfection. The staff at Sault were very attentive and professional, yet still casual enough to be friendly and chat with. We wanted for nothing. Before we could even think of asking for a drink, it was already in front of us. It was absolutely a lovely place. The service, the food, the setting, 100% lovely.
A. L.
As someone who appreciates great service, Jodie and her husband were extremely helpful with managing our wedding plan. The process was smooth, and Jodie was extremely sympathetic and kind. They did not just treat us like another customer, but as a person, which made us feel evermore so confident with their service. Rest assured, my fiancé and I will be back again. Thank you Jodie and Damien.
J. M.
We had dinner at Sault and we really enjoyed the evening. We had a 3 and a 4 course menu and the sizes were very good. We both were more than satisfied. The surrounding was very nice as well (lavender, a small Chappell and a lake)
R. D.
Everything at this restaurant is done well. From making a reservation, through the greeting, service and to the incredible food, we were impressed. The food is 5star quality and beautifully presented. The waiter clearly knew about the food and its preparation and was able to discuss techniques with us. Thank you for a wonderful evening.
H.
Beautiful grounds, delicious food.

Sault is an amazing place! We had the tasting menu a few months ago to try out for my sister's wedding and everything was delicious. My sister's wedding ran smoothly and it was all because of Jodie and the lovely staff! Jodie went above and beyond. The little barn was the perfect place for the ceremony and the views around the place made for great photos. The food on the night again was without fault. If you're thinking of dinning here or having your wedding here, I would not hesitate!

First time to Sault. And admittedly they as I have just come out of locked down.
Welcomed by the maître de who was very pleasant, but really went downhill from there .
Ambience: There was an air of sterility in the place, furnishings could do with an upgrade, a bit stark and hard. The place was cold ‘admittedly it was cold outside ‘but heating or starting the wood fire would not have gone amiss.
Food: I thought OK, my partner being vegetarian was not so impressed, saying ‘from starter to end was much of a muchness’
Served by three differing waiters all pleasant in their own right, but continuity of care in this priced restaurant you would think would be order of the day.
And for the finale, the Manager/owner?, was in a flannelette shirt ‘of all bloody things’ who was more interested in looking at the up and coming bookings, rather than enquiring if we enjoyed our meal or even a thank you.
So for a meal for 2 -$275.00 in supposed more upmarket restaurant. They would need to lift their game and Manager pls lose the flannelette shirt. It is not a good look.

We recently celebrated our wedding with the team at Sault. We cannot thank Jodi and the team enough for the magical day that we had, everything was as we could’ve imagined and more! The food, staff and venue were perfect and made our day even more special!
R. E.
The tasting menu did not disappoint, with the salt and vinegar scallop dish a huge highlight. Goes without needing to say, but the venue is beautiful. Definitely a must whilst in Daylesford!
M. G.
We had a lovely lunch. The food was perfect. Friendly staff and great service. Beautiful place to visit.
J. B.
A lovely lunch in a beautifully serene setting. We had the degustation menu which was interesting, varied, and delicious! Lovely sparkling wine! I cannot recommend Sault highly enough for a romantic occasion. Perfect!
N.
Exceptional food and fantastic service, all with an beautiful setting. Would highly recommend the experience - get here earlier or spend some time after dining to enjoy the scenery.
S. W.
I love this restaurant! My husband and I love dinning out and at lovely places and this time we found our favourite dining experience for sure.
Not only the delicious food that was spectacular but the wonderful environment and amazing and knowledgeable friendly staff made this a place to be for sure.
We shall be back for sure.
Thank you for your kind hospitality.

The menu at Sault is seasonal, local and innovative. The service is elegant and personal. The food is sensational, you can taste each flavour and the freshness. The menu offers a wide yet select selection. The setting offers a casual yet romantic feel. Overall dining at Sault is a stunning experience. The food and service are outstanding.

My partner and I go to Sault every year. We make that same trip despite being bored of going to Daylesford just to go to this restaurant. The prices are fantastic. I fell in love with the ambiance. Its so very romantic. The food is exquisite. I would LOVE to get married there. All in good time. Its very intimate. And they make the most amazing cocktails.
R. E.
The wedding we attended here was impeccably catered for, the foos was amazing and all local produce. Would highly recommend.
F. T.
I have dined at Sault many times and we had my daughter’s wedding there. The food each visit was delicious and the service was excellent. One of the best restaurants in our region.
r. k.
We'd ideally give this a 3.5. Excellent service, interesting menu. Choice of a 9 course degustation or shared tapas, mains and desserts. We chose to order several tapas and a main course each. 3 of our 4 entree share plates were simply amazing. Really extraordinary. The fourth was good but not outstanding. Our mains however were a little disappointing, the fish dish served with a seafood ragu was too salty fir my taste (and though I love fish, this was overwhelmimgly fishy). The slow cooked brisket lacked the flavour we enjoyed so much in the entree. The dessert was truly delicious, a brilliant blend of tastes and textures that surprised with every mouthful. So a mixed experience but some wonderful, memorable dishes in a simply gorgeous setting.

Fantastic dinner and service

The food at Sault is amazing upon ordering we received complimentary smoked Salmon that they had cured themselves. The service was fantastic our glasses were never empty and the staff made sure that we were always tended to.
The restaurant itself was great! it was warm homely and inviting,
I have already recommended Sault to others and will definitely be driving out to Daylesford to eat here again.

Having enjoyed dining at several top level fine dinning resteraunts, we were looking forward to our evening at Sault. The location is beautiful but the atmosphere in the resteraunt is rather sterile. Our first & second coureses were the size of "degustation tasting portions", not "courses". My wife's main dish of Spanish Makrel was dry, hard and tastless. However, my main dish of Eye Fillet of Beef was very good. During our meal we asked for more bread. The waiter's response was, "I will see what I can do". I feel the resteraunt's reputation is over rated and their general attitude is pretensious. Very dissapointing.

Brilliant food with local, seasonal produce. Beautiful location overlooking the lake and lavender. Very good value for money (4 course for $95pp), and generous portions. Glad we made it here!

Excellent ambiance, food & service.
H. C.
Went there with high expectations, mainly due to the long drive and the price tag. They don’t disappoint; great food, great vibe and great service. We tried the 7 tasting menu, and for $100, I think it is well worth it.
M. P.
Making reservations was a little troublesome. We were offered limited timeslots so we assumed the place was busy and booked out but on the evening of our dinner the restaurant was only 1/5 full. We were confused as to why we couldn't get a later booking when there were sooooo many tables available by the time we had left. Our chefs tasting menu took about 2 hours to get through. Everything was great! The scenery here was spectacular. From the carpark to the garden to the viewing of the lake... Amazing!
A. K.
Food was exceptional. Service lacked at some stages. We opted for 7 course degustation which was really amazing, each one of the courses. We advised that waiter the my wife was pregnant prior to ordering food.
First 4 courses came out in timely manner. We did not have to wait for long. 5th course (main) took almost 40 minutes to come out. I asked the waiter if they can bring food little faster as my wife was getting tired since we been sweating there for two hours. I was advised main on the way. It took almost another 15 and I asked again. The waiter did not seem to be happy about me rushing him. We then had another waitress come up to us and advised that they had two large tables to serve before us.
All up we were there 2.5 hours for lunch. If we did not ask to rush our main and deserts it would been 3.5 hours for lunch. It was way long and tiring for preganant lady.
A. A.
Food ranges from great to barely ok, which is not reasonable for the price. The service is also similarly inconsistent and is occasionally a little rough, bordering on unintentionally rude (and I’m not hard to please). Beautiful venue. So I’m deducting two starts; one for the food, the other for the service.
G. M.
Was there for my son's wedding. Nothing was too much trouble, a credit to the owners. Fantastic venue, fantastic food, fantastic staff who were very attentive and caring. Thank you! Highly recommended!

Dined in June and July, sampled most of the Winter '19 menu

Such a lovely estate and beautifully cosy restaurant to dine at on a freezing winter evening. Service is wonderful, time between courses (4-course menu) perfect
Highlights: Beef Tartare, Mandarin (Dessert), Quail, Barramundi
Lowlights: Eye Fillet
Notes: Do yourself a favour and order a Pedro Ximinez with the Mandarin. Also, love that they seat pairs around a corner, rather than face-to-face. Small detail but unique and makes a difference
Y. W.
We had three course lunch today.
First, the food was fresh and of quality produce. Serving size was excellent. Waiting time between each course was reasonable. Most importantly the food consistently taste great from entree to desert.
Highlight:
Sourdough bread was crunchy on the outside; soft and moist inside.
Entree Octopus; prawn rice.
Main: Wagyu beef; duck breast
Desert: Passionfruit sorbet.
Lavender maccaron was superb.
Second, service was of excellent standard. We were well attended for; accommodated and even had help with our young infant.
Third, beautiful backdrop; nice and cosy environment which was very welcoming.
Lastly, very reasonable price for excellent food, excelent service, and awesome view.
Definitely worth the 2 hour drive and will definitely come back for more.
D. P.
Maybe the best vegan options in Daylesford. Enjoyed the 7 course degustation but as was driving could go the matched drinks. Will not put my hand up next time
G. B.
Gorgeous venue and amazing food. Thoroughly enjoyed the 4 course menu to try a selection of fine local foods. Staff were friendly and knowledgeable.

Enjoyed Valentine's Day here. The setting, menu and service were spot on. Incredibly interesting food and flavours, knowledgable staff and beautiful setting. Top notch evening and one of the best menus I have enjoyed.

As newly local we have been looking forward to eating here and weren't disappointed. Overall the food was very nice, creative and delicious, but it was the attentive service and ambience of the stone building which set this restaurant apart.
S. C.
Second time we have been and had the tasting menu. Wonderful food, good value for money and the staff are very friendly. I highly recommend everyone visit Sault. We will definitely be back.

Fantastic restaurant and terrific staff! Highly recommend.

Was quite apprehensive about such a " not your standard" menu and wondered if our middle class palette would enjoy such fine fare ...what a totally wonderful experience it was .Staff so very helpful in accomodating us with minor changes on the meals we chose ...I couldn't recommend Sault highly enough ..Thank you !!

A very beautiful place filled with amazing spots for photos.
The restaurant looks absolutely fabulous
It's a shame that we didn't get the chance to dine in here as it was full.
A note for those that wants to come and dine, remember to make reservations regardless what zomato says!!
A. C.
We had 7 amazing meals!! Definitely a creative twist to every dish! And the staff were all beautiful :) we'll be back!
J. S.
I attended a function at Sault last month and was very impressed at the service and quality of the food. The chef catered for my dietary requirements (fructose free and gluten free) beautifully! I would highly recommend going there.
B. H.
Beautiful venue, service and food. Only downfall is that if you’re vegetarian, I would suggest planning ahead and choosing the 7 course menu rather than the 3 as it’s not great value for money.
S. C.
The whole experience was a delight. My favourite was the Wagu - cooked to perfection. The staff were attentive yet unobtrusive - one of my better dining experiences in a long time.
B. W.
Excellent service and 4 course dinner was flavoursome. Wine selection great.

We had the 4 course menu. The food was delicious and the staff were all lovely.

Delish food, starter was extremely salty and we were disappointed when the eye fillet had run out by 6:30pm on a Sunday but the cut they served in its place was amazing and the service was above and beyond.
Would love to go back during the day

Had the degasation menu, food very good. Service was excellent. Just the atmosphere was not as relaxed as I would like. That's just personal preference though.

Food was amazing! Made my birthday extra special! Especially the truffles that were in season and served as a special! Yum!

Staff were exceptionally attentive, we had the 3 course degustation and it is very sharply priced. We were so full at the end! Fantastic end to a romantic getaway in Daylesford

- Food was average nothing exceptional, portion quite small
- The male host and male waiter very unfriendly, didn't think either of them at least smile once or say thank you when I paid, the female host was friendly though
- Nice outdoor view but we were tucked in the corner can't see as much despite I booked more than a week in advance
