It's a really nice place, lots of space inside and outside and the food is good, we were surprised with the frilled cucumber which was delicious! We had a few cocktails which were very nice. The service was good too! Would go there again 😊

Great place, awesome beer and vibe. Issue is when we arrived at 3pm we were first told they shut the bar down in 30min and the kitchen was already closed and to reopen sometime later. We are at Surleys down the road and at least 3 groups of people that left Stray Neighbour are now here. Not sure who sets up their hours, but business is being lost as a result. SN is A good spot if you catch them when they decide to be open and serving

Great food and an excellent selection of craft beer. Kid friendly and the staff were very friendly and helpful. My only criticism is that the menu was using overly complex technical language that left both my partner and I confused as to what was being offered. I would certainly go back again but next time I'll be prepared to google some if the wording.

Wow! I am from Brisbane, stopping in for the weekend and this spot was sensational. Great atmosphere on a Friday evening. The food was seriously delicious and very surprising! For the entrees, truffle fries and chilli olives were divine! The fries were a very generous serving which was filling. For the main, I had the most tender, juicy and flavoursome steak I'd had in a little while! Cooked to perfection. Sides of the broccolini and miso zucchini were also a nice addition. Dessert was the cheesecake with peanut butter crumb was honestly such a surprise to top it off! Absolutely stuffed at the end of our meal. Lots of craft beers on tap and staff were lovely and friendly too. Would 100% recommend and 100% go back!

Have been living in the north for the past 3.5 years but have never tried this place this last night. Had Mother's day dinner here, super spacious place with lots of greenery, ambience was great with the low lightings and various seating areas and arrangements. Perfect for families with kids or even if you want to come by solo. Chill vibes. Food was amazing. We had the truffle fries (YUM!), cured meats and sourdough (not amazing, but was nice), O'Connor's rump cap (steak was super well rested, tender and juicy), ricotta gnocchi and mushroom (gnocchi was nice but I've had better ones, sauce was great but think it needed more sauce) and lastly, grilled broccolini (which was surprisingly very delicious and tasted very different from any broccolini I've ever had lol) and lastly, some fried chicken which was nice but again, not mind blowing. All in all, I had a great experience. Customer service was good, would 10/10 come back again 😊

Food tastes good, portions are a bit on the small side given the prices charged. Drinks, if you are paying yourselves, ridiculously high, cocktail prices are out of reach. Cheaper drinks are rip offs

Great find. Came here for brunch and realized they are more a bar than a cafe. The service was good and the food came out pretty fast. Though as mentioned before, food is more for dinner than breakfast. Their coffee however is great. Will come back in the future at night with friends for some drinks. They have a cool ‘all you can drink/eat’ menu for $69 (2 hours).

Just want to shout out how insanely good the bakery/take out food is. There are a lot of amazing bakeries in Melb, but like, f me, those pies, sangas, ice cream, buns etc etc etc etc are literally to die for. Like I'll kill you for them. I'll do it.

Stray is one of my favourite places to go (and not just because it is at the end of my street). The food is always delicious, the drinks are great, the staff are lovely and the place is itself is comfy and welcoming, yet cool. Highly recommended for a special occasion, a spontaneous meal out or casual bevy on the weekend (or anything any time really).

Highly recommend the arancini balls and chicken schnitzel! And of course the doughnuts, they were excellent.

Oysters were delicious. Chicken was tender and succulent. Unfortunately, the steak was underdone. Excellent selection of whiskey, and other selections of alcohol is also good. Poor acoustics mean there's a constant din, so you're raising your voice just to heard by your fellow guest(s). Service was friendly, although a bit slow to begin with.

Thanks to a client, I've become a regular at Stray (pending Melbourne's on-again, off-again lockdowns). And I love it. The team are attentive. When I ordered a hot chocolate, I emphasised I wanted it with a marshmallow. It came with two. The explanation: "You sound like you really needed a marshmallow." The food is yummy, with all the flavour of a country bakery. And those coffee scrolls are divine treats.

I enjoyed the food today. I was here 4 months ago and the serving was pretty small for the price. Today the serving was more in line with the price and very tasty (vegan dish - same as I had in Oct as there's only one vegan option). Stray Neighbours would be even better if they could add more and comfy cushions to the dining seats - as they are not the most comfy chairs.

An absolute delight, first time coming here so didn't know what to expect but was blown away by the food and the service. Although they seemed a bit understaffed, the professionalism and knowledge of the curly haired waiter and the girl behind the bar exceeded all expectations. The food was to die for, we were advised to try the sweet potato gnocchi and what a beautiful dish, the scotch fillet as well was cooked to perfection and my husband and I could find no faults. A very enjoyable night, will be returning.

Overall not bad. Ordered a scotch fillet rare and a pork schnitzel. Our food arrived quick a little too quick! And as I suspected the steak was a little tough at first due to not being rested. The mushroom sauce was simple and effective and let the natural beef flavour through. The chips on the side were standout impressive. Overall not bad but with a small tweak would have been amazing. The Pork Schnitzel was amazingly tender and flavoursome. Crumbed and cooked to perfection. All the food was seasoned appropriately. The cheesecake was amazing but I did a double take when it arrived. The portion was a few decent bites at most. An interesting take on a classic. Just double the portion size and I'll be happy. The vibe of the place I found to be interesting. A nice mix of average Jane and Joe hipster. Prices will be justified I feel with a few small tweaks. Over quite happy and will be back.

We would have liked to enjoy a few drinks in the sun as a group, but even the pricing on drinks we went to a local brewery instead that has similar quality selections for much less. Other than that, nice venue. I liked the food hall atmosphere. I doubt we'd be back for drinks. Maybe for a feed though.

The venue is lovely and the atmosphere was great. The staff were ok at best, not rude but not overly friendly and attentive either. I ordered the risotto with a side salad. The side salad never came and the risotto was bland and starchy, actually couldn't eat it. My friends ordered steaks which were good but average presentation with scattered fries on the side which brought the meal down a bit. Good selection of beers and ciders. Over all was average experience and wouldn't make the effort to travel up there again, a 40 minute drive from my home suburb on a recommendation that didn't hold up.

A local gem. Cafe by day and bar by night, this place has it all. A beer garden out the front and very spacious on the inside with tasteful decoration. There is also a free to use pool table! Loved the iced chocolate and how it had a true chocolate flavour. The breakfast burger was so interesting, I quite enjoyed its uniqueness and how every ingredient complemented the other. Will definitely be returning

Great takeaway coffee, delicious pies, sourdough bread, cinnamon rolls and brownies. Their pantry essentials have saved us many a time, and we regularly buy St.Davids milk there. Looking forward to post-lockdown 3.0 weeknight specials.

A large, diverse place in an area in need of one. Good food, if a tad pricey. Good selection of drinks. Kid friendly. Sit at the long bar; have a romantic dinner; eat in the diner like area; have a drink by the fire; play free pool. It's a few footsteps away from an 86 tram stop.

Not sure why, but Stray has gone downhill in the last few months. Not so long ago it was by far the best place for a moderately priced upscale meal in North Preston. They still have a quality wine and craft beer list but the menu has recently changed for the worse and the quality has been pretty poor. Fun starters like the popcorn prawns have gone, smaller meals like the incredibly tender green chilli steak have also disappeared and apparently decent oysters are simply unavailable for a large portion of the year. The last few visits have resulted in over cooked steak, braised lamb that was dry and 40% fat, a bowl of mussels which didn’t come with bread and unappealing specials. The old wait staff seem to have all left and replaced by staff that have little or no knowledge of the wines or beers. The beer lists have been removed from the drinks list but the waitress couldn’t tell me what was on tap and didn’t know what a porter was. I’m really disappointed by these changes and hope it’s temporary. I’ll check back in again, but I don’t think it will be for a while.

One of the nicest places in Preston to eat out. The building is very nice and modern, offering different sitting areas: front beer garden, restaurant and a more private section next to the fireplace. The menu is short but the food is very tasty, and the selection of craft beers is great!

This is the perfect marriage of Melbourne's best food and drinks in a welcoming venue. Expect the best service, food and beverage knowledge and interior design for a three course dinner, or a quick drink. Plenty of outside tables and a free, 7 foot pool table; larger than pub size. Worth the trip to Preston from any suburb, or state (or country!).
