Comments of The Albert Park Hotel
U.
Great quality food, great service (for the most part).
I come here once a week and I always enjoy my meal. The service is mostly excellent. On the odd occasion it can be a challenge to get someone's attention, but it's usually excellent.
The one thing I love about this place - the quality of ingredients, especially the meat. I love dumplings, but I usually dislike the quality of meat typically found in dumplings (like dim sums).
K. M.
Wonderful cosy atmosphere with great service. The salted egg prawns were perfectly cooked and the sweetness of the prawn really came through. The Peaking duck was flavoursome with more duck meat than I would normally expect.
G. C.
Dropped in here the other day for a late lunch and a catch up with an old mate. Its been recently renovated and is looking very funky with lots of space. The menu is heavily Asian influenced and the snacks we chose were certainly tasty. I'm sure it will get quite busy but a great place to meet up for drinks and food.
J. W.
We very much enjoyed our dinner last night. The food was delicious and of great quality. We were very well looked after by very attentive and lovely staff. The ambience of the restaurant is very nice. We highly recommend this place for a special dinner experience.

A pub with Chinese food? Weird huh? But somehow it works. The food is very high quality and if you're looking for a light share meal is recommend this venue. Great to sit out on a warm afternoon shopping a wine in good company, people watching. The clientele it attracts are your race going young hip things who are all really happy to be chatty to other people around. It's a different venue... definitely one to try and be pleasantly surprised. Enjoy!!! Go but done expect pub food even though that's what it is.
J. A. L.
It’s been a long time coming but the new experience was more than worth the wait. The venue feels twice the size it used to be following the significant renovations, there’s really no resemblance to what it once was (in a good way). I was wondering what the hell they were doing in there! Now I get it. Will look even better once it’s allowed to be full of people. It’s all about the detail in this place. Nothing has been missed (especially in the lighting which you can’t help but be mesmerised by). We had dinner upstairs in the Happy Valley Chinese restaurant section... horseshoe booths perfect for groups of four or six, the cocktails were excellent (get the “love & death”) and food lived up to the standard that the venue’s look demanded. Huge and mouth watering menu, can’t wait to get back and try everything that we didn’t get to. Staff finding their groove with smiles on their faces. Talk about breaking out of iso, these guys have smashed it.

I wasn't looking forward to pub food for a catchup with some mates, but surprise surprise it was absolutely delicious Cantonese/Malaysian chinese food. Portions are a little on the small side for the price in my opinion, but it was absolutely delicious.
L. G.
There are pub makeovers and pub transformations. The Albert Park Hotel has most definitely be transformed beyond recognition. This neighbourhood pub should now be considered amongst the cocktail bars and better restaurants of the area rather than a place for a pint and a parma. Local chef Ken Yuen had his own restaurant around the corner but now operates the pub kitchen as Happy Valley serving cracking contemporary Cantonese. For our meal last night a highlight was their take on the salt and pepper squid which included coconut that making it more memorable and delicious than any I'd had before. The Wise Bar dessert is the housemade version of the tropical supermarket Weiss Bars. Theirs is as light and refreshing as it is delicious. A very happy ending.

I want to preface this with: its never the issue that there is a problem, its how a person (business) deals with it. Something will go wrong at some point, thats life.
With this being said the service at their Chinese fusion mess of a menu is fine, with very nice cocktails.
Prices are stoooopid expensive, for honestly mostly little better than food court style for some dishes to sublime and expertly produced expressions of culinary prowess. The former is sweet and sour pork, which was served incorrectly, to the tom yuk which is worth the cost of admission. This poor sweet and sour was instantly addressed when raised with staff and given this it may of been a one off, though not a write off.
Entrees are underwhelming throughout with silky and firm tofu apparently an interchangeable term. We legit sampled all save the shai mii, and the xiao long bao being underdone and flavourless. The fried ice cream is passable, but could use more syrup to hold the milo dustings.
Overall: served familiar dishes to older anglo austrlians, which is their market so i cant fault them too much on that. Dont call your guests ‘team’, just dont. Not worth returning if you want proper fusion, worth it to satisfy mature crowds with few taste buds left before they waddle back to their nursing home having wasted their pension. Payment. I will shokugeki your head chef with two days notice.

Food and portion sizes were exceptional and the staff were very friendly and attentive. Great selection of food and beverages 🙂
R. M.
Great Chinese pub near the beach in Melbourne with outstanding furniture and brand new design.
Food is amazing drink list is ok. Loved
L. Y. X.
it’s a aweosme restaurant. only have a drink here and find out the menu look amazing. gotta come here one day
B.
Review of public bar: Beautifully stylishly renovated corner hotel-pub. Most of the indoor footprint is restaurant (Cantonese) rather than pub now, but there is a small public bar with a handful of tables at the front and there are several tables in the pavement outside. Drinks: A fairly standard selection of beers. Food: Cannot speak for the restaurant, but sadly the short list of bar snacks just has some canape-proportioned Chinese menu starter items (spring rolls, prawn crackers etc), quite expensively priced, so little to line the stomach.
A. G.
Great place to go with a group. Service was good , great food and interesting selection of wine. Easy parking.
C. “. S.
Average Chinese food. Expected some more flair. Great venue, staff nice but not fast.
J. M.
With the interior designed like a fancy overseas hotel theres a lot about this "pub" that will polarise opinions.
Comprehensive drinks menu with mostly attentive and present service the foundations of something good are there.
If you're someone that orders more than the mainstream "combination fried rice/dumplings/spring rolls" combo when you eat Chinese food then the fare here will likely disappoint. The attempt at refinement leaves you paying about double what you would somewhere on little bourke st but with half the flavour.
My experience can be summed up as "close but not quite" and with a few tweaks could surely be a major hit.
P. W.
This should have been 5. Stopped for quick drink. Ordered 6 drinks at the bar. Barman got two wrong and had to try again. Asked for a receipt and he walked off. He was more interested in talking to his mates. The place looks very nice and the food looked good. Very busy.

I celebrated my birthday at the Albert Park Hotel and had a great time. However due to the number of guests (14) we all had to order the banquet which cost 75 per person...we were all disappointed by the portions which were tiny. I barely had any fish and veggies...
The food was great though and the staff really nice.
S. C.
We had a wonderful experience here on the weekend for my daughter’s first birthday! They accommodated a party of 50 with 2 days notice as we changed our plans from a park party due to the weather. They were so accomodating right from the booking, set up and service. Wonderful staff that make you feel as though nothing is too much trouble. Decor in the pub is so warm and beautiful. I’d highly recommend this place. We’re very lucky that it’s our local.
A. B.
Regular here, always amazing food, great service, best prawn toast in Melbourne. Can't wait to go back after lockdown.
C. M.
Great pub always a good crowd and food is delicious. Only reason for three star is the multiple experiences I have had with one barman/waiter who is rude to staff in front off customers. No way to lead a hospitality team and I hope this review reaches higher management so action can be taken.
G. B.
Fancy! The renovation is amazing. Great selection of drinks. Can order on your phone which is amazing for us introverts. I rated four stars as I'd prefer more options for nibbles. Maybe just too fancy for me.
J. T.
I’m not a local, but if u were I would be at this venue every 2nd night, great food, great staff, just a real great place to be !!!!!!!!
A. g.
This place is a must try! Amazing staff, really friendly and warm service. The food is amazing, with lots of coeliac friendly options--best gf Chinese in Melbourne. The crab omelette is incredible, but everything else is great too. The portion sizes are generous, and the prices are fair. The venue has been recently refurbished and looks great. Can't recommend enough and will definitely be back! Thanks for a great experience :)
S. N.
Good food good service.
Nice place to chill.
Highly recommend.
E. S.
Nice surroundings, but the food is a bit off the mark for me compared to the competition. It's not terrible food but the higher end pricing puts it in a pretty competitive category. I think there are better Asian food options around. Good place for a drink though.
P. K.
5 stars for renovation and the staff service, but the food is too much like highly priced suburban Chinese take-away to warrant the 5th star. To make a bold choice for Chinese at a pub, I was hoping for something special and a bit more "fusion". Instead it is very familiar standard fare - not bad but not great as hoped, especially considering the price. Go here for sure (it is a great place), but don't expect the food to wow you. If you want this style of food - Cindy's in North Melbourne on Uber or Mya Tiger at the Espy.
R. S.
This place is beautifully designed, and promises to be an awesome venue, but being told by staff we had a only a tiny choice of very very expensive (even for Melbourne standards) asian focused snacks to choose from whilst drinking out the front, Iets this place down massively, along with very young inexperienced staff. Hoping they make a few changes as I really want to like this venue.
M. B.
Mixed feelings. Would like to rate it higher, as the oysters were beautiful, the raw fish entree was delicious and firm, and the dumplings were perfect. Unfortunately the Wagyu beef with pepper and honey sauce was delicious, but cut into thick 4cm chunks which were too tough and chewy to enjoy, and the service was spotty ... we sat with our entrées in front of us waiting for our bottle of wine before we could start to eat. And please, put the wine in a cooler at the table so I can pour my own instead of waiting for attention. And then there is the matter of the EFTpos card surcharge, which amounted to $4 on our bill. Ridiculous. We were happy to spend $200 on our lunch, why insult us for using a bank card to pay.
I. B.
Really nice to have an aperol outside and a few dumplings with local friends! Atmosphere is really nice
Service is okay - a bit slow last few times I have been - perhaps slightly understaffed? A few order mixups too but appreciate difficult times with QR codes. Issue has mainly been with drinks not coming out at same time when ordered on one phone
T. H.
Albert Park Hotel is worth more than 5 stars!! The venue itself is unbelievable, all the decor and lighting is gorgeous. The staff are so welcoming and helpful - their customer service is of such a high standard. We sat in one of the booths upstairs and it was an amazing atmosphere. I am extremely picky with what I eat, we ordered the deluxe banquet and I definitely ate my share of each dish! It was AMAZING! I couldn’t fault this place if I tried and I will definitely be back!!
K. G.
This was our first dining experience at this newly reopened hotel. COVID restrictions meant that outdoor seating was our only option this time. Inside was already at capacity. It didn't matter in the end. We had a heater nearby and prompt friendly service. We ordered the hot entree options from the menu and everything was delicious. Couldn't fault the service or food. Would definitely return. Loved it.
J. B.
Had Christmas function in the lounge upstairs enjoyed it and the food was amazing
D. S.
Sat in the pub area and ordered online at a table. App was simple enough to use and everything came out quickly enough. Simple Asian food, wonton, dumplings, seseame prawns, oysters, etc. I think I would have liked to have seen a bit more variety but the service was excellent and the venue is beautiful.
L. L.
The food is lovely, but it’s expensive and the service is very inconsistent. I’ve been 4 times and each time has been a mess in regards to service. For example there’s two different QR code’s outside which are impossible to tell are different as there’s no instructions to explain that one is for self service ordering and the other is for covid check in. My first time sitting outside today and after waiting 20 minutes i finally flagged someone over, only for them to tell me I should assist myself. Customers aren’t mind readers, provide adequate instructions for people to know what to do. Even the staff agreed that it was a poor process.
H. S.
First time visitors for a family dinner. The food was absolutely amazing with a selection that catered for diverse tastes. The atmosphere was warm, the new design so inviting and the staff were first class . This is a destination you must save in your favourites. We’ll be back.
J. R.
Food is really good. Service staff and floor staff for food are very good.
Prices for drinks reflect the delay in opening for 4+ years and bring gouging.to an artform.
Bar service is pathetic measured by the time you wait to be served by mostly inexlerienced bar staff.
I have never seen so much wastage of beer in 40 years of drinking and/or working in pubs. Obviously training of barstaff or recruitment of barstaff is not a high priority.
This is really only a pub with good food. The atmosphere may improve when the plastic people who think it is the place to be seen get bored when no-one gives a rats about them. In fact, while writing this I have just marked it down to 2.5 stars.
N.
Good option for a special occasion. Food full of flavour, generous servings and authentic menu items. Not a place for the budget conscious though but definitely somewhere to go if you have a celebration.
d. s.
The most excellent & exquisite food I've eaten in a long time. The salt & pepper calamari is absolutely to die for. I will definitely be back again. Refurbishment of the venue is extremely well done & provides great atmosphere.
R. R.
A great experience of food, style and service. Thank you to the team at the Albert Park Hotel.
K. B.
A pleasant dog friendly spot with good food and a quality but somewhat limited drinks menu. Far enough away from Victoria Ave that you can be heard if sitting outdoors.
R. C.
Fantastic night upstairs in a beautiful booth with 6 of us celebrating a 21st. Such a cool renovation, staff were so good, food and drinks amazing. Highly recommended.
K. W.
AUTHENTIC fine Chinese dining experience. The food was delicious. I cannot believe how legit the roast duck and char Sao pao was 😂. It was SO FLUFFY. I will be back, again and again and again and again.
J. W.
Service and ambience lovely and that’s what you pay for. More authentic and better value chinese food available elsewhere (would definitely not take my parents here but fine with friends who are used to non-asian food).
A. D. A.
Never a bad meal. Deliciously consistent
H. L.
Just dropped in for post meal drink. Wonderful staff, decor and menu looked good too. Ist time definitely not the last. 😀💗
S. D.
Great place for a drink on Sunday afternoon. Weirdly a beer took longer than a coffee but seems to be the way with places where you order from your table app.
J. E.
The yum cha here is some of the best I've ever had. Fast service, good range of beers. The new outdoor spaces are great.
S. D.
Great food and service. And great wine :-)
p. w.
Excellent although small Asian menu. The refurbished interior has a great feel.
S. B.
Great pub, new Chinese restaurant is good but way overpriced. Quality is for a good suburban restaurant but priced at premium. Maybe just enjoy the atmosphere.
C. Y.
Premium price for yumcha
Good atmosphere amazing renovation.
Asian lady waitress was quite unprofessional....
Wouldn’t come here for food anymore. Would recommend as a bar.
R. B.
Exceptional dining experience now that the VicAsia people have taken over the kitchen. Highly recommended and not too expensive
D. S.
Great venue! staff are super friendly and awesome! Varied drink selection. Highly recommend:)
C.
Loved the layout and interior. Great service and a really nice selection of seating areas. Really great place for drinks or dinner.
M. T.
Excellent food, service and venue. We now go there several times a month and had a dinner for 12 last night.
T. B.
Pleasantly surprised with an Asian infused menu! Servicing size a little light but amazing taste. Peking duck pancakes was the standout.
P. P.
What a beautiful old girl the Albert Park Hotel is, a classic. Staff were attentive and friendly, COVID safe protocols were excellent. Relaxed and sophisticated vibe. Highly recommend.
t. b.
The food is incredible. Great fitout, quite unique. Cocktails were a bit slow, but teething issues perhaps. Still recommend it, go!
L. D.
A really nice venue and the food was simply outstanding, service could be a little quicker but maybe some of the staff are a little new, all staff were very pleasant.
N. P.
Great place for a catch up, fabulous Syrah and awesome food to share in the bar area!
P. H.
Amazing food, great space
Z.
How are there so many bad reviews? I thought this was a new place. Did they just relocate? I loved it! A very creative menu, it fits perfectly into the village area!
J. E.
Great atmosphere and awesome food.
Had the Raw Yellowfin Tuna and XO Pippies. Everything was extraordinarily delicious. Will be back for sure.
E. C.
Fantastic dining experience. Try the prawn wontons and the house fried rice. Friendly staff and fantastic winelist.
N.
Don't bother! Last month I had my birthday at the Albert Park Hotel and the lack of customer service, food quality and atmosphere spoilt the day. With 6 people at the table, everyone's food was overly spicy to the point of being inedible. When my mum wanted to bring the cake out, the manager wanted to charge $4 a head to cut it!! My mum tried to reason with them but they refused to budge. Aside from us, there was only an elderly couple in the restaurant (Saturday lunch) so it wasn't taking them away from serving others. We left after spending money on meals we didn't enjoy and cake in hand. I strongly suggest you eat elsewhere, especially if you are celebrating an occasion.
H. G.
Service was fantastic, food was soo good and plenty of it. Thank you to all staff, highly recommended
V. R.

G. F.
The Staff were very friendly and professional. The food was fantastic
A. G.
One of the best hotels I have ever seen! Great selection of beers and great staff!
B. D.
Really nice and warm service manager and bubbly welcome from another waitress. Cute take on a fishfinger roll and great oysters. Flavour of the dumplings was nice, but I found them a little chewy. Scrumptious freebie in the form of delectable smoked trout with yoghurt and finely slivered daikon. Leek ash on that too. Yum. Duck was delicious and the thrice cooked chips were good. I found the Korean pickled chilli cabbage to be too spicy and strong for the duck. But, I knew what to expect and just had a small amount. The pineapple with the duck, however, was really great. Great broken icecream sandwich with salted caramel sauce for dessert which we shared. Overall, a pleasant dining experience. I'll go back for the trout and salted caramel for sure.
I. I.
Great food and an amazing wine list. If you can, head straight up to the bar on the first level..

N. G.
Very nice food of a tad expensive
H. M.
Great spot, if you can get in. Great pub food, beers & wines on offer. Friendly staff too.
M. B.
Food was not bad. Not "fine dining" mind blowing levels of food, but still a bit better than a standard pub. Service could be a bit friendlier.

E. G.
Beautiful food, great atmosphere and decor and good service
P. R.
we've been dining here for years and aph just seems to be off the boil right now. the service was overbearing and interruptive, the food was fussy and expensive but not great and the decor looks just a little shabby round the edges. please paul wilson give this place more love!
M. L.

Welcome back!!!!
G. G.
Great looking place and food was quite good but the service was weird. We (group of 7) ordered individual entree’s and mains etc yet they came out on share plates. We had a main and an entree of calamari and it all came on one plate! 3 people ordered fish for main - all on one plate. At least that way the chefs don’t have to worry about equal servings - just let the punters fight it out. We hadn’t had it explained and none of us had experienced this before. Weird. Sort of spoiled a good but expensive evening!
