The food was delicions, if a little pricey for what we were given. The waitstaff were good, but were overwhelmed by a thursday night's service, such that we didn't get menus when we asked for them, and the service seemed a little rushed. Overall though, good if you're passing through and need a place to fuel up before exploring North Melbourne.

Been here a few times in June-August this year and it was good, but the food was ‘just’ pub food. Tonight was the first time coming back since lockdown ended (actually our first night out since) and the quality of food as well as the customer service has really stepped up! The specials of a fish burger and eggplant fries were outstanding. Good serving size, full of flavour and fresh. It was really nice to get back out and have a fresh hot meal I didn’t have to cook. As always love the large selection of beers and how much the staff love talking about beer. Cheers for a good night out!

A good save by the staff at The Castle Hotel recently. I made a reservation recently and when we arrived were told there was a 1 hour wait for food and there was nowhere else we could go and nothing that could be done - despite our booking. Unsurpringsibly, we were not impressed and were now without a place to have dinner. However, the staff (I believe the manager on shift) sorted us out and was able to whip up a delicious chicken salad and some baskets of chips (which is all we wanted anyway). He comped us the food and was very apologetic. What could have been a really bad evening was saved by his actions and we were all very grateful! Note to the wise, if you are booking a table here, make sure it is not a night when the Meat Market have an event, and if it is, call ahead and order!

Really neat place! It's really cosy & there is adequate spacing between tables. I have dined here on numerous occasions over the last few years & the service has been fantastic. The food is very well presented & very tasty! From the open souvlaki to the lemon pepper squid main + the most of the entrees... it's all delicious to me. I always look forward to dining here with friends or family. Highly recommended.

The Castle Hotel is located in the heart of Melbourne near the Royal Women Hospital. It offers a great range of beers and ciders, including some Belgium beers. The interior design is modern and the food is also great. We had the Lamb Cutlets, a porterhouse, a Caesar salad, Chicken Parma and Gnocchi. It tasted delicious and looked fresh, although some dishes could be a bit cheaper in my opinion. Will go there again.

Normally will go here on Wednesday for the steak night. The portion is pretty generous for $17.50 steak. Descent amount of chips and salads. They’ve got different types of sauce to choose for. The food was ok.

Pleasant basic inner city pub, good food selection with a range of daily food specials. Service is quite slow and rather hit-or-miss .. the bar is frequently unattended. Open for lunch on Mondays which is a big bonus since many inner city pubs aren't. Returning after lockdown the Castle remains much the same ... the food is acceptable but the service rather clueless - it was a freezing cold wet day but all the doors propped open !! - when asked the staff said they needed to check with the manager about closing the door - no heating running and patrons were wear jackets to stay warm ... clearly "hospitality" is a mystery to them.

Walked past this pub many times but hadn't ever stopped in. Had a great lunch here, open souvlaki and a beer/wine sitting out in the greenspace under the trees. Super helpful and friendly wait staff and we had some laughs. Can't vouch for any other time/setting than a midweek lunchtime but definitely won't keep walking past if I'm in the area like I have previously. Worth checking out.

Fantastic food with a relaxed atmosphere and vibe. The staff are able to meet your every need and I have some pretty significant dietary requirements. The castle adapted well to new COVID dining restrictions and we had a wonderful lunch out!

Friendly staff and a choice of indoor, outdoor or dining style seating areas makes the Castle a great choice for group catch ups or just a quick stop in from a long day. The pop up beer garden catches the sun in the afternoons in the loveliest way and is a nice spot to enjoy a hot snack or try things from the pub menu.

The expansion of the service area into the public space ensures good social distancing and is very comfortable. They have worked hard to ensure a good experience in accordance with public health measures. The place was great. Seating was very crowded. The reason for only 3 stars is due to the fact there was no parking. We had to leave our function every hour or so to move the car. At times had to park 2 blocks away.

Had my first post lockdown lunch at the Castle with friends and we couldn't have gone to a better place! It was a lovely relaxed atmosphere out in their new space outdoors and they had the appropriate covid safe measures in place. The staff were so friendly and nice to chat to. They were also very accommodating to our various dietary requirements. I had the Mediterranean salad and calamari which were amazing. They do like to specialize in big work functions and they have the set up for that...but even then some meals will arrive when everyone else is finished. The food is good, the staff friendly, just the time you have to wait to get your meals is on average 40 minutes. We have been there a number of times over the years, and have never had a meal come out to our table less than 40 minutes average. Last time we were there three weeks ago, two of us had finished our meals by the time the other two meals FINALLY arrived. So, perhaps have a snack before you go, you do not want to go there if you are really hungry as you will be waiting a while. Once you do get your meal, the food is nice and definitely filling, but we are put off going more regularly due to the wait time.

I booked for a group to catch the UFC but as I couldn't confirm numbers, people pike while others bring +1s, the staff were super accommodating and allocated more than enough it prime spots. We ended up giving up a couple of our tables as the joint was filling up. It got flat out busy but the level of service was top notch throughout the day. Atmosphere was buzzing without getting hectic. Thanks for the great day. We'll be back again!

Despite its name and what it looks like from the outside, this is actually a great little pub filled with European beers on tap (including Kriek!) for relatively good prices. Don't expect super-cheap pricing on these specialty beers though. They also have matches and sports on, and a good relaxed vibe. The place can seriously fill up during certain matches! There's usually some kind of food special on most weeknights.

Fantastic meal and service. We are country folk in the big smoke to visit a friend at Peter Mac hospital. We both had Porterhouse steak,( lunch time) it was cooked perfectly to our request. We were made feel so comfortable here that we really had to push ourselves to leave. Genuine country feel and food. Nobody minds paying when it is good... well... this was better than good. Even though our steaks were on special today ( not normally lucky, kinda found out after we ordered).. but we would gladly pay the price(which considering other places this was reasonable) now knowing what it is like.. Don't judge a book by it's cover?... well, lets face it the best read ones always look shabby on the outside. Whenever we have to be back in Melbourne again, we will definitely be back at here for a meal. Thankyou for making us feel so welcome & comfortable. ( one small criticism... could you please make sure your glasses are clean, there was lipstick on mine, I don't wear lipstick. But have worked behind the bar at a 5 star est. and know how this can happen. Just something to keep an eye on, as it does not take someone much to put up a bad report.). we will be back !!!!! xxxx
