Finally tried Melbourne’s famous pasta bar, Tipo 00 (after many failed attempts at securing a booking) - and I gotta say, the pasta here is seriously some of the best you can get!
Honestly don’t think you can go wrong with any dish on their menu, but some of my top picks would be the Zucchini flower stuffed with spanner crab (only on their special menu though!), their famous Squid ink tagliolini (this one’s a MUST TRY), and the Tipomisu for dessert (really strong coffee flavour and not overly sweet - a must for coffee lovers!).
N. V.
Tipo 00 was outrageous... Outrageously good. That's what Gordon Ramsey would have said and I completely agree with that.
Great cozy atmosphere, friendly staff explaining each part of the menu for you. Food was tasty and very filling. A night to remember!

🖤 tagliolini al nero
🌼 zucchini flower w/ crab meat
🐟 fish w/ cone cabbage, white wine & mustard
🍩 bomboloni
🏠: @tipo00
📍: Little Bourke St, CBD
📝: Finally, after three years in Melbourne, I got to try out Melbourne’s famous pasta restaurant, Tipo 00. So many people have recommended this place, but I never got the chance to visit. Saw no hope in booking for a dinner session (fully booked for the rest of the month), so we got a lunch booking instead. A cozy and busy place in the midst of the CBD.
❤️: We got the signature 🖤🍝 Tagliolini al nero—squid ink tagliolini with squid and bottarga. I really loved the special appetizer of 🌼 Zucchini Flower with 🦀 Crab Meat though. Once of my favorites of the meal. Nevertheless, the ultimate highlight for me was the dessert. We got the 🍩 Bomboloni—ricotta doughnuts with white chocolate and passionfruit. They were AMAZING and a must order for every visit 🤤.

I was so excited in trying out Tipo 00 upon seeing all the positive reviews but my experience was underwhelmed. The portions were small for the price point and there wasn’t anything outstanding about the flavors. Some of the dish was really salty. I really enjoyed the Sea Urchin Risotto but that was the only dish out of everything we ordered.
The service was just okay. My entire dining experience felt rushed.

An unbelievable experience - the best night in Melbourne on an Monday without a doubt!
The seafood was fresh and cooked to perfection, the vegetables were seasonal and crunchy and the pasta was literally to die for. Bonnie's service was outstanding - her recommendations on the food and wine were spot on, I can't praise her enough. An all round 5☆ dining experience on a night where everywhere else was closed.
Just go here - you won't regret it!

Best Italian restaurant in Melbourne. Love the gnocchi and the tiramisu. The tiramisu is a must try, it’s kind of different from the traditional one, it uses brownies rather than the lady fingers. The mascarpone cheese was very good.
The squid ink pasta was light and delicious , loved the texture of the pasta.
The prices are a bit of high, but definitely worth it.
D. S.
Had a late lunch/early dinner here. Staff were very friendly, food was excellent and a great atmosphere. Highly recommended.

Tipp00 is a fabulous Italian restaurant with amazing food and service. You feel like part of their family (if you are a regular). The complimentary bread and cheese is perfect. We love trying all the handmade pastas. The rabbit is a must order and their small plates are all very good too. Finish with the tiramisu. In June they also had truffle (seasonal) risotto. Heaven.

Amazing food. The speed of the food coming was just nice- not too quick or slow and we came when it was around 8:40pm, full house on Christmas Eve. 3 of us tried the Chef’s menu and we did not know what to expect as we were not told what is to come. Every dish was very well- balanced with flavour. My personal favourite was the Ox-tongue and the desserts (panna cotta & tipomisu)
冬.
3.5 I would say. Good service.
Might be my expectation was set too high. The food was just alright. Tiramisu was interesting to try though :)

Our favourite pasta restaurant
Polpo — chargrilled WA octopus, leeks & green olives
Lingua — grilled ox tongue, balsamic & pink peppercorns
Gnocchi di patate — braised duck, porcini & pecorino pepato
& Tagliolini al nero — squid ink tagliolini, squid & bottarga
Current chef’s special is Linguine with lobsters meat

Delicious, great experience. Came into the city to make use of the Melbourne money rebate and chose Tipo as it was highly recommended. Did not disappoint! Pastas were simple with few ingredients but so delicious, exactly the way they should be. Entrees of artichoke and Buffalo mozzarella were good too. Salad I found a bit too sour. Service was attentive without being too disruptive. The restaurant itself it small and cosy without being too cramped. Highly recommended for the pasta. Would definitely go back.
C. L.
Enjoyed the food here especially the polpo and pasta. The service was fast and the staff was nice. We were sitted without a reservation at 7pm, so we ended up with bar seats near to the register. I’d recommend making a reservation for a party of more than 2 because it can get busy. My friend had white wine during the meal and I had limoncello as a digestif. Both were good. I’ll be back again to try the rest of the menu.

Qn absolutely awesome tiny pasta bar. One of our favourites in Melbourne. We had the Moreton Bay Bug linguine with perfectly cooked shellfish, asparagus, aromatic broth and Al dente pasta. A Great wine from Sicily to accompany it. Staff are friendly and this place is always in demand. Bookings essential. Highly highly recommended.
M. T.
Really great atmosphere, quality fine food without the pretentious fine dining vibe. Ordered the Risotto with sea urchin and finger lime and honestly could be one of the best risottos I’ve had in my life. Perfect consistency with added textures of urchin and zingy bursts of lime was delightful. Gnocchi was also perfect.
Service was as expected, and waiters generally attentive. Book in advance or walk ins, if not too busy may get a seat at the bar (which is not too bad a seat). Will be back to try more!

Possibly my favourite pasta restaurant in Melbourne. Never fails to impress. On this time, we ordered:
- lingua: so soft, tasty
- calamari: nice
- carciofi: nice although pricey for quantity
- squid ink tagliolini: one of my fav dishes
- gnocchi duck: my other fav dish. Best gnocchi in town, so soft
- wagyu mafalde special: really tasty, huge portions
- tipomisu: not bad, although prefer the more traditional tiramisu
- bomboloni: tasty

The place to come for pasta. Chef menu leaves you wanting more. An extra dish perhaps. Next time just order pasta. It’s cooked to perfection. Desert was an excellent finish to the meal. Back again all day long.

It's been a number of weeks since we dined at Tipo 00 but it left such an impression I had to contribute to the positive reviews. Absolutely delicious, one of the best pastas we have ever had! A true great in Melbourne. We also had an absolutely delightful waitress on our table (we were seated outside) for the evening. She was so polite and pleasant, present but not overbearing, truly wonderful. I only wish I could remember her name so that my feedback could be more direct. Thank you!!
T. H. (. C.
The food was superb! Their friendly staff kindly divided up a dish into 2 servings when we mentioned we were sharing all dishes.
R. A.
Finally I ate here, I’ve been wanting to go for ages. Lively restaurant, won me over immediately with complimentary bread with this soft delicious cheese. We shared two starters, two pasta mains and two desserts. They thoughtfully divided our pasta in half for us both times and we ate one before the other so it felt like a degustation. Staff were friendly and attentive and never let my drink be empty, true for both for tap water and wine. All portions were quite small, but expensive. It felt like we paid for quality, and I did leave full. My favourite was the tortellini and the panna cotta.
A. H.
Here's what's up folks, Tipo 00 is probably one of the best Italian restaurants in Melbourne. Hands down. There I said it. Ambience is homely, warm and perfect for a nice date- it's a place to impress. The service is efficient, nothing overly noteworthy but what you'd expect... do have the shout out the manager on the night who noticed I had some delicious sauce left on my plate and offered some additional complimentary focaccia to eat it with! Now to the main attraction the food- plenty to choose from.. we had the gnocchi, best ever in melb, the risotto, probably best ever in melb too. The carpaccio was also a terrific starter. A Tipo off of the hat to your work Tipo 00. A definite must go for any melbournian.
K.
Extremely popular place for your pasta fix. Difficult to get bookings but we managed to get a table by walking in before peak hours. Their pasta ingredients and flavour combinations are on point and textures are definitely al dente. Ciabatta starter with ricotta was also great. However, the bomboloni was a little bit of a let down at the end. Prices was on the high end as well.
C. L.
Love the ambience, modern and relaxing vibe! Perfect for afternoon hangout with friends and with a glass of nice wine! Food was amazing and the flavours were spot on!
S. R.
🧀 Paccheri w celeriac, goats cheese, lovage
🥔 Gnocchi w braised duck, pecorino, porcini
🐙 Calamari w farro, celery
🍟 Polenta chips
🦪 Freshly shucked oyster
🥖 Focaccia
Tipo 00 has been high on my must visit list for so long! Unpopular opinion, we didn’t think it was as good as everyone told us it was. The highlights for us were the complimentary focaccia bread and ricotta, as well as the octopus on a surprisingly delicious bed of farro.
We felt the pasta sauces were not flavourful enough and very watery (as you can see from the photos). There was also only 3 small pieces of braised duck in the gnocchi sauce, I really was expecting something more hearty. The paccheri was nice enough but not wowed. I don’t know why I keep trying polenta chips, I never like them (my preference) 😂

WHAT DELICIOUS FOOD. My partner and I celebrated our 10 year anniversary here with the Chef's Menu. We've done many chef/feed me menus at other restaurants and thoroughly enjoyed our meal here. 2 snacks, 2 starts, 2 pastas, a side, and 2 desserts. We also received our own individual bowls for each pasta. We found the servings to be quite generous compared to other chef menus.
The dessert is the best I've ever had 😍
B. F.
Probably the best pastas I’ve had in the Melbourne CBD. Decent variety of wine to go with our pastas!
Lovely and friendly staff members inside out!
We had our meal sitting outdoor with fresh breeze, and the staffs made sure we were well accommodated with our toddlers which was really nice of them all.
We really appreciate the nice service and enjoyed it very much!
I. C.
First time trying their delivery experience through dreaded Covid and all I can say is you get what you pay for. This may be one of the most expensive Italian food from a restaurant I've ever eaten but the quality of ingredients used, the excellent dining experience provided and a standard that sets the bar is nothing to joke about..
Do yourself a favour and try out their takeaway/delivery dining experience or even better, get your behind over there as soon as restrictions ease!! You will NOT be disappointed!

We walked in to Tipo00 on a Tuesday night as regular foot traffic, and were able to secure a table either inside or outside. We opted to dine outside. Oysters were fresh, and the red wine vinaigrette complimented them well. The Squid was also nice, with the standout being the charred tentacles. Mains were very generous servings, with both of us just barely able to finish our meals. The pricing is also excellent, for the calibre of food being served, Tipo00 is consistently cheaper than competitors. My one complaint would be that dining on the table closest to Elizabeth St, it can be hard to see your food. The only source of light comes from behind, so you end up blocking the light.
S. C.
Had the Chef's Menu for my wife and myself and ordered a cheesy pasta for the kids (7 and 2). Everything was perfectly cooked and super delicious! Staff was very attentive and friendly as well. Had a great dinner and would highly recommend.
A. S.
we went on a wednesday night and got the chef's menu ($85). service and food was amazing!
had no reservations but they keep some tables for walk-ins if you come in early / get lucky.
we got around 3-4 entrees, 2 mains, and for dessert, we got 3 desserts to share.
service was great, will be back!

One of the best Italians we have had in a while. Small cozy and a mastery of sublime and elegant food using the best produce without losing the simplicity which makes for the best of Italian food. Great wine list
D. M.
Excellent and authentic Italian food. They also have a fireplace at the back where it's quite nice and warm over winter. All the pastas are excellent with quality pasta and ingredients. Good portion sizes and amazing clean and well done flavours. Lunch specials and course menus are excellent and would recommend going from entire through to desserts. Only thing would be maybe consider doing some mocktails or drinks for those that do not or cannot drink - it realistically you're in an Italian restaurant - so you got to drink. What wine they do have is excellent and have a great range and variety. Well deserved
E.
Pretty good place.
Had to wait about half an hour. Foods and wine was fine. Seems like they do make noodle because it was quite fresh. If you can have the outdoor table it would be better.
Not that expensive as well. Spent about $60 per person. Had two pastas, two glasses of wine and one starter.
A. A.
Had a lovely dinner, all the dishes were great, but my favourite was the kingfish sashimi type dish, which came with a really delicious green sauce that turned out to be made from oyster. They brought me some bread to have the rest of my sauce with. The mains were great too.
They did randomly add some truffle dish we neither ordered nor ate to the bill which was a bit dubious, but they got rid of it when we pointed it out.
J. w.
Delicious food and super friendly staff!
H. S.
First visit was good, but tonight was outstanding 🔥
Oysters, crudo and polpo as entree 🐙 🦪
Spanner crab risotto and Duck gnocchi 🦆 for mains 🦀
Bomboloni with passion fruit cream and “tipomissu” to finish as dessert 🧁
Everything really tasty and enjoyable, friendly customer service as well.
Definitely coming back soon!
K. C.
A lovely and cozy restaurant with beautiful Italian dishes and a great wine range. Their pasta is amazing.
A. K.
What deliciousness 🤤. Everything from the starters to main course to desserts delicious and delicious only. We walked in without booking. Waited for 45 minutes but was worth it.Taking the star away for the dining part. Its always crowded and had to sit on the window dinner which was little uncomfortable.
L. W.
Tipo 💯. I definitely advocate for the chefs menu. Worth it!
S. K.
My absolute go-to for exceptional Italian food. My new catchphrase when I crave Italian, "If it's not Tipo, I don't want it" !
I've had many dishes here but my favourites and unique 'must orders' are:
1. Squid Ink pasta (signature dish)
2. Bomboloni — ricotta doughnuts w/ white chocolate & mandarin
If you end up enjoying Tipo00, be sure to check out their sibling restaurant, Osteria Ilaria!
밥.
I’ve been to tipo00 several times. Never fail, always delicious. I can say this place is one of best Pasta restaurant in Melbourne. Foh staffs are very friendly and knowledgeable for wines. Go for it.
M. T.
Definite 10/10 experience.
We have both been here before in the past and it has never failed to impress us. We chose the chargrilled ox tongue, spanned crab linguine and rabbit and ooooh boy they’re delicious!!!
Fantastic service as well - gave us extra bread to finish up the leftover sauce we had from our pasta 😍
S. L.
Had a delicious meal here with my partner after receiving a gift voucher from friends. The Greek doughnuts are a must! Tipo 00 is named after the highest quality flour to make pasta.
G. W.
Can honestly say that Tip00 exceeded our expectations in a big way. The team were exceptional. Char was the most gracious and knowledgeable of floor staff we have met in some time. The staff’s knowledge of their wine list was amazing and most importantly the chefs produced outstanding food. Balanced, refined, delicate and most of all, tasty!! As a couple of Sydneysiders, we can’t wait to get back!!
G. P.
Great vibe and delicious food. The staff were attentive and lovely (even gave us some complimentary focaccia and ricotta). Standouts food-wise included the ox tongue and rabbit tagliatelle.
T. _.
Simple dishes done well. Great flavours, quality ingredients, and well seasoned. Eucalyptus panna cotta was delicious. Attentive and knowledgeable staff. Very enjoyable, will definitely go back.
A.
Ordered the squid pasta, crab risotto and brownie. All really good plus excellent service.
g. n.
Probably one of the best Pasta I have eaten in Melbourne. The prawns in the entree was amazing and ordering a second plate was inevitable. The staff was very friendly and recommended us a very good wine for the pasta we had.
C. T.
Our favourite Italian place. Delicious-ness all round.
H. D. L.
What a delight to be back in one of Melbourne’s finest restaurants. This little place over achieves on all fronts. Food, always excellent. Killer wine list and friendly, thoughtful service. These guys deserve all the success they have achieved
C. C. R.
This little place was amazingly astonished me with their food. They tasted so delicious with a great portion and price as well.
I ordered squid ink pasta, braised duck gnocchi, fried calamari, and ox tounge for 2 adults and a kid. The presentation was lovely, so ready to eat temperature, and they were cooked in an open kitchen.
The staffs were very helpful and knowledgeable. However, it is better to make a reservation before otherwise you have to queue the long line.
T. K.
Very nice place to eat out with friends. They have good quality food and friendly staff. I recommend Chargrilled octopus, Panna Cotta and all the pastas. They won't disappoint you!!!
C. M.
I absolutely adore eating at Tipo. The pasta is incredible, and can never go past their rich, delicious dessert list. Wine is excellent and service is impeccable. Absolutely worth it, every time.
F.
My favourite part about visiting Melbourne is tip00. You’ve never tasted food this good. The servers always ensure you’re having a great experience, yet they aren’t in your face. It’s a warm and cosy feel & the tiramisu is a must have!
C. J.
Food is superb. Service is fantastic. Just enough. Not in your face. Bookings necessary as walk ins fill up fast (bench seats or outdoors are the only walk ins)
J. W.
Intimate and buzzing vibes in this small Italian pasta bar. Had the chef's menu for $70 and all the dishes were full of flavours and well executed! The standout was the squid ink linguine, so much flavour and pasta and squid was cooked perfectly.
Highly recommend this place for small gatherings or dining on your own.
A. L.
Delicious pasta! Every dish was spectacular. Strongly recommend to everyone in the area.
Worth the wait
J. T.
Still probably my favourite pasta in Melbourne.
The prices have risen sharply in the past few years, which almost nudged this to a 4…. But fortunately I love my pasta.
M. C.
Exceptional! The staff are friendly, helpful, knowledgeable and efficient. Incredibly good food, which easily stands shoulder to shoulder with the finest of Italian cuisine, comes from the Tipo 00 kitchen.
Don't hesitate to go there.
B. M.
Lived up to its reputation. Wonderful place, great food. Needed to wait for nearly an hour, but worth the wait. Went for the chiefs choice and got a good variety. Three starters, two pasta dishes and one and a half desert. Liked not having to choose; just sat back and enjoyed the experience. Can sit at the bar, but we chose the shared table.
E. T.
Really good and balanced flavour overall. The foccacia was soft and the ricotta was blending well. The polenta was crunchy. The casarecce was good and serving amount just enough. The highlight of the meal is the spaghetti with scarlet prawn which is amazing. Prawns taste fresh and sourness not overpowering. They always get busy so bookings essential but walk-ins are welcome.
T. T.
I ordered the beef tongue and cold meats cuts - beef tongue was delicious and absolutely amazing! Amazing - so soft and sweet and sour ugh! Amazing!
My main dishes were absolutely great! I had boar ragu and the pork sausage fennel pasta - amazing again!
By now I’m too full - but managed to squeeze dessert. House tiramisu ❤️ love this place. It’s packed! You need to book, if possible or walk in @ awkward time. I came in around 2pm and had to wait another 30 minutes to sit on the bar.
S. S.
It's a really nice venue with great staff. The food was fabulous... fresh and modern. Highly recommend it if you want not your typical Italian food. Don't go here if you're looking for a bog standard spaghetti bolognaise.... mind you having said that, if it was on the menu (which it wasn't when we were there) I'm sure it'd be amazing!! Yum. I had the bomboloni (donuts) for dessert and they were outstanding... thank goodness there were 5 of them....4 would not have been enough 😉
K. L.
Always trust chef, this place never disappoints. The chef choice is more than enough food and the staff will happily suggest half bottles to go what is going to be served
R. G.
This place is very close to perfection. Food is amazing, the bartender really knows how to prepare a drink, the stuff are very welcoming and the list goes on. I will highly recommend it if you are after an unique experience. Thank you 😊
T. C.
One of the best Italian places I've had! We got the Lingua for starters and it was amazing. The sauce was very nice and the ox tongue mixed very well with all the ingredients. The pink peppercorns were interesting and they gave a nice pepper burst flavour. I had the gnocchi which was the best I've had. The gnocchi I've had previously are firm, however this one was very soft and it was delicious. Just looking at the photo makes me want more. I can't remember what the special was but the steak was nice as well. Everything was delicious! I would recommend giving this place a try If you haven't.
E. M.
Fantastic meal. I highly recommend the chefs menu which is an unbeatable value. It includes a selection of apps, entrees and deserts well spaced through the evening. Favorite dishes included the foccacia, fried risotto balls, shrimp spaghetti, and amazing chocolate dessert with caramel filling. My description certainly doesn't do justice to the variety and awesomeness of each dish. If you want the a Michelin star experience without the snobbery and for half the price, look no further!
R. M.
just amazing flavours!! I love how the pasta sauces are not overpowering. Had the creamy truffle special pasta and the sauce was to die for, subtle truffle taste and I don't feel bad eating it as it wasn't just fully cream like other pastas I've had. The avocado and cherries complement very well with the ceviche. Meats just melted in my mouth. Service was excellent.
E.
If you're looking for a more sophisticated place for Italian grub, especially pasta - Tipo 00 is the place to go. Serving delicious, innovative and fun dishes, there is always a lot of excitement and anticipation whenever returning to dine here.
S. K. T.
Very nice and authentic Italian cuisine. I have only visited once and the squid ink pasta was superb. The tipomisu (their version of tiramisu) is a must try. I hope to go back again soon.
K. H. N.
Fabulous dining experience with appreciate service. Excellent food.
D.
Food was nice. A little bit too fancy for my liking. I’m Italian and still didn’t even understand half the stuff on the menu. It’s not your typical Italian food, but if you like creative and fancy, then you will like this.
T. K.
About as authentic Italian pasta as you can get in Australia. Absolutely incredible, full credit to the kitchen staff for the best pasta I've had in a long time! Service is also top notch and a must visit if you're in Melbourne.
C. H.
Walked in on a Wednesday evening at 7:30. Was told that we could get a table for two but we need to leave in one hour and order pasta right away. Had fried Zucchini Flower, Gnocchi Di Parade and Tagliolini Al Nero. Satisfied with what we were served.
K. S.
Absolutely amazing! Great food, nice wine list and good service. Loved it❤️
P. E.
Amazing pasta place! We were surprised that there wasn’t a huge queue just before it opened at 11:30, but Lo and behold it was packed by 12.
I usually love the squid ink pasta but this time I decided to order something different. I had their entree quail special and also their spanner crab w saffron linguine.
The quail had a beautiful flavour but just a tiny bit undercooked for my liking. I am sure it’s fine but whilst I don’t mind a bit of pink I wasn’t a huge fan of fully pink quails.
Their spanner crab with linguine tasted out of this world though and I would probably order this again... if the black squid ink pasta doesn’t entice me away again!
F. P.
Food is fine, really expensive as expected of an Italian restaurant. You won't be disappointed but you won't walk away thinking you had value for money either.
W. W.
Enjoyed our lunch here at Tipo00, the service was quick and we finished our meal within an hour. The beef tongue was delicious.
L. C.
Busy little place but the staff were very accommodating for a walk in group of 4. Pasta and risotto were all top notch. Highly recommend.
A. A.
Good food & wine. Ordered the calamari entree & the tagliatelle Nero main. Great sauce but the squid ink lacked flavour. The bread with olive oil was nice. enjoyed my Prosecco. Less sure about the rose. Loved the tipomisu which is a bit glamorous without being too sweet. If you go later on in the afternoon on a big day it's easy to get a table.
Y. P.
Now I know why everyone loves here! Great atmosphere and food is superb! Strong flavor, the place for pasta! Thank you!
S. T.
Went there for a late night dinner. Although we had no reservation they managed to squeeze us in and even find a table for us which was great! Nice ambience (a bit noisy though). We loved the starters : burrata and the fish crudo. Absolutely amazing! However, the mains (fish and pasta) which were both day’s specials did not live up to our expectations.
Tipo 00 has a relatively strong winelist. However, the by-the-glass options were limited and the focus was mainly on Italian wines, while we were more interested in local options.
Service was fast and staff was nice and approachable.
S. N.
Not 5 stars for a pretty sad reason. There was absolutely nothing wrong with the food. The food was as amazing as in the reputation and I had a great time with my girlfriend. It is the customer service that disappointed me.
I ordered a glass of wine, and after a few sips I noticed there was a small bug floating on the wine.
I called one of the staff and showed it to him, but then he was gazing at us like he doesn’t even understand why I’m talking to him. I said to him that there’s a fly in the wine again, and he goes “I see there’s a fly yeah. So what are your requests?”
I eventually had to clearly say “are you able to replace it?”. He still seemed reluctant but finally offered to take my glass and check what he can do. When he brought the glass back to me, he said it’s a fresh one but it appeared to be the same glass with less amount of wine so I was not 100% sure if it’s actually a new serve or he just removed the bug. Regardless, the unwilling attitude affected our whole experience.
Is that the kind of customer service I can expect from a restaurant at this level? It’s not a cheap take-away eatery, but it’s one of the top listed Melbourne’s iconic restaurants. Even if he’s unable to replace it to a new serve because of the restaurant’s policy etc, shouldn’t he at least apologise and explain to me respectfully that he cannot give me a new glass? Showing unwilling attitude in this situation is just unacceptable.
This was a birthday lunch for my girlfriend. We had a fantastic time. Both of us enjoyed the high-end Italian cuisine that can rarely be found anywhere around. The signature squid ink pasta was beyond words, gnocchi was stunningly soft and the richness of the dessert Tipomisu was a so nice to finish the meal.
It is only THAT customer service that we felt uncomfortable during the 60-minute lunch. Such a shame when the chefs are doing incredible job but the customer-facing staff so easily makes it less nice experience.
R. W.
Have been waiting to come here for ages and was definitely not disappointed! Staff were friendly and helpfully described specials on offer. The menu is impeccable. My friend went for the signature spammer crab dish but I decided to go for the squid ink tagliolini which was so nicely cooked - perfect flavours! The starters were fantastic too (burrata and swordfish) but the crowning glory of the meal was the signature ‘Tipomisu’ which had the most amazing salted caramel sauce. Can’t wait to come back!
S.
Very nice service and amazing dishes!!
J. L.
The texture and flavor of all pasta dishes were perfect. Tiramisu was a bit disappointing, tasted more like brownie with light cheese and chocolate sauce. Would have been a perfect meal if hadn’t order that tiramisu.

Amazing service for how busy they are. Best to come at 11:30am on a weekday when they just open for lunch, reservations are hard to come by. Their home made pasta is divine and the pasta sauces are especially good. Would have given 5 stars but unfortunately the gluten free pasta is not the best I've had. Vaporetto in Glenferrie wins in that space. $8 for sparkling water is also a little over the top.

Had sea urchin risotto and lamb shoulder.
Risotto itself was perfect. Not sure about the quality of sea urchin though.
Lamb shoulder was a bit too salty.

Amazing. I don’t think I have had a better pasta. If you haven’t been here before, you should. If you have already, you should go back. Everything from entree to dessert. The menu is quite small and the place is very busy but it makes up for it 10 fold with its food and service.

Finally had the chance to try tipo00. We decided to try our luck for lunch during the week and were lucky enough to snatch up a table at the bar. We ordered the ox tongue, spanner crab risotto and wagyu papadelle. The ox tongue was the most tender ox tongue I’ve ever had and not dry at all. Loved the risotto but found it a little too oily half way through so swapped with my partner for his pasta. So delicious, rich in flavour and a slight chilli kick. Very tender beef pieces as well. Well lived to its reputation!

I have had an amazing experience with Tipo 00. It was my first time eating their food as I have previously been unable to visit their restaurant for walk-ins.
I ordered their Fathers Day special this year and the food was amazing and delicious, a definite recommend to all. I used the Providoor website to order the food and unfortunately the order received was only half (1 of 2 boxes) of what I ordered. I immediately contacted Tipo 00 and they responded straight away apologizing and personally delivered me my 2nd box.
This to me was great customer service as they solved the issue straight away and they arrived before my luncheon began which was perfect.

The food was so good! Visited just after 6pm on a Monday without a reservation & was told the waiting time for a table was 1.5hrs. Seeing that shops were all closing & basically nothing much to kill time in the cold, we decided to take away the food back to our hotel. Had the scallops risotto ($39) & braised duck gnocchi ($32) and we finished every bit of it! Flavors were excellent & carbs cooked to perfection. Can’t imagine how much better it’ll be if we dined in! Tho it’s rather pricey for a small portion & couldn’t quite pick out the scallops in the risotto.

Good quick friendly service. Beautifully presented dishes with generous portions but lacked something in taste. Average. Not bad but not great.

There are plenty of choices for Italian in Melbourne, however you will struggle to find better. Small and cosy with plenty of atmosphere, the food is amazing - fresh and full of flavour with authentic Italian flavours which are not overpowered with sauce. A good wine selection will assist in accompanying the delicious pasta. Try the sulumi for starters - delicious.

Probably Melbourne's best pasta locations! Highly, highly recommend! Make a booking well in advance, otherwise try to get there early to be seated at the bar or communal table. Every dish was as good as the last. I'd recommend sharing dishes to get a good range of tastes. Price is as reasonable as you're going to get in a place like this. Great date spot I might add. The only thing that was a bit of a let down was the service. Felt as if they were above it in a way. Not to say they were rude, I just don't appreciate when service staff do the bare minimum, and prompt for a tip on the way out. Again, not a complaint, I just believe when you have this level of food, in Melbourne you expect the same level of service.
T. Z.
Fantastic experience for my tongue. Improvements on traditional pasta which bring some exotic feelings. Also, my kids love them for crazy. Will come back.
F. G.
Fantastic Italian place at CBD. Ordered 3 pastas and 1 dessert for two of us. Left very full.
The best of all was the Tortellini with Parmesan, the cheese aroma exudes from the sauce. The dumplings were perfectly al dente, had a bit of chewiness in it. The fillings were creamy and yummy. Also had the Spagghetini with Red Mullet, tasted really savory and a punch of seafood flavor. The gnocchi with wagyu and tomato was plump and had a really nice texture when eaten with the beef and shaved cheese. The dessert "Tipomisu" was awesome. Deep and dark Salted Caramel Choco with light and creamy Mascarpone cream. Sublime.
Ambience was bustling with people's laugh and music. Service was quick and accomodating. Overall, it is one of the nicest Italian eatery I have ever got.
S. L.
I think this is the best Italian restaurant in Melbourne. The pasta are their signature dish, all freshly made and cooked al dente. The sauce are full of flavor and have this intensity to it. I think the squid ink pasta is the best and a must have. I would also recommend the ox tongue for the entree. The service is attentive, they would offer you more bread to mop up the wonderful sauce, this is how they eat pasta in Italy. Definitely need to book ahead as it gets full very quickly.
M. T.
Tipo 00 is my favourite Italian restaurant. Every trip to Melbourne consists of at least 1, if not 2 visits. Make sure you book ahead of time as the place is always packed! If you miss out, be there as soon as it opens as even the bar seats get snapped up quickly! From the salmon and cheeses to the handmade pastas and everything in between you just can't go wrong here. Perfect for a leisurely lunch or a bigger group. It's a small space so seating it pretty tight but it feels like you're in a trattoria in Italy! The Tipomisu is a must-try for dessert too.
E. L.
This is really a place can saved your day. I tried the Chef's Menu. And that was so good! I don't even know how I finished so much food! The starter were great, the fried cheese ball was really good and makes you exciting about what comes next. Grill ox tongue was fantastic, it's tender inside and a bit crispy outside. I have no words for Pasta and Risotto. You have to try it yourself! Ending with their special Tiramisu, it's really the super happy ending~
I came here on Tuesday night around 19:30, and wait around 30mins for a bar seat. So maybe stop by and make the reservation before your time to have meal.
B. E.
Not sure if they take bookings but if they do I’d highly recommend booking as it gets very busy. I was on my own at 7pm so form a seat at the bar within 10 mins or so but tables of 2 or more were told at least 2 hours.
Delicious food freshly prepared in the small open kitchen, I had a tuna tartare and then a spaghetti with Moreton Bay bug, definitely worth a visit
T. H.
Chef's selection is great value here. All of the 7 dishes were good-great. The spaghettini with mullet, the ox tongue and the tiramisu were exceptional (see photos). A bit cramped to seat and this made it a bit loud - not a good place if you want to talk to your date. Service is to a high standard.
N. G.
I was so disappointed as the staff were so rude and obnoxious when we first came in and tried to walk in a couple of days ago as i have been looking forwards to visiting this place the most out of our whole Melbourne trip. Luckily we got to snake a table today for lunch and Wow just wow. I was just absolutely blown away by this place. I couldn’t find any fault in the meals! Some of the best pasta I’ve ever had. The sauce was so spectacular and made with the upmost care and you can watch them make the meals as it’s an open kitchen which made this experience quite enjoyable. No wonder this place is always so booked out in advance. I recommend this place as a must try to anyone in Melbourne. Try and book a while in advance as they don’t guarantee you a walk in.
C. R.
Wow. What a tasty lunched. Loved everything that was served as part of the banquet. Well worth the $65pp. The recommended wine was also a nice drop. The dessert each to finish off was a nice end to the meal. Would love to return
s. b.
The food is good, but not mind blowing and it is overpriced. Tiny restaurant and it is a struggle to score seats - book in advance.
The service...the guy running the floor was really nice and accommodating, but the blond girl at the entrance (which is probably the one that picked my phone call when booking) was incredibly rude and treated us disrespectfully. It was raining when we arrived, we walked in and said hi but she looked us annoyingly and just said <Stay outside>. Kept ignoring us too throughout the night.
We got a burrata and a salad that were average, burrata was way too hard. We asked for pasta recommendation to share and we got the truffle risotto and the lamb fettuccine, they were good but not mind blowing, and we couldn't finish them even though we were quite hungry. When we got the bill we realised those were the big portions, the risotto was almost $50. It wasn't on the menu so wish they had told us so we could have chosen the smaller portion, there was no explanation about the different sizes or prices. The tipomisu at the end was really good. The orange wine - bleh.
Overall, good if you can book a table in advance, but there are plenty of other good italian restaurants that are less pretentious and more relaxed.
R. G.
A great experience to live. I did the course menu in truffles season and it was marvelous, both good and service were one of the best I had in Melbourne. The atmosphere is great but if you dont like small restaurants that maybe a problem que will have. The only thing I can complain-ish is the size of the plates in the course menu(it was a lot of food) they give you 2 really big plates, 2 medium and 4 small. It totally worth it but you en up completely full.
C. M.
Oh my gosh delicious!! You have to make a reso months in advance but totally worth it! The pasta is absolutely to die for! The staff are great as well, you can tell they are proud of the meals and care about your enjoyment of them. Plus the free focaccia bread with feta they give you is so yummy!
S. T.
When you hear famous chefs raving about a restaurant you want to give them a go, so I did.
When in lockdown, you are at the mercy of the food delivery driver and hope that the food arrives in one piece or not looking too much like a dog's breakfast! :) But in the end, it comes down to taste.
What I ordered:
Foccacia - a few slices with a dipping sauce [enough for my lunch the next day].
Gnocchi di Patate - not a fan of gnocchi normally, but this braised duck with porcini mushrooms and pecorino [type of cheese] gnocchi were a light and fluffy match made in gastronomical heaven.
Polenta chips - lightly dusted with rosemary salt with a crunchy texture.
Tipomisu - a decadent indulgence of chocolate, mascarpone and coffee - almost like a classy layered biscuit.
All up $66 - this included a tip and delivery fee. Very reasonable for a meal to share or to have alone.
In summary, the food was tasty, a generous serving, filling and enticing enough for me to want to order again and visit the venue once we get to some form of normalcy.
T. W.
Small cozy restaurant with amazing food. Though a little more expensive than other pasta places, the food here is extremely fresh and full of flavour. The papardelle was cooked to perfection. Highly recommend to anyone who wants authentic Italian pasta.
Y. H.
I had truffle risotto which I had been wanting to try since the start of the truffle season. Other than the facts that the risotto was a bit grainy and the dish was saltier to my taste, everything else was great especially the umami sauce.
Next time I'll ask the chef to cook it less salty so as to make the sutler flavours pop. :)
T. B.
Very nice place, ordered the oysters, grill calamari appetizer, squid ink pasta, crab risotto and tipomisu. Other than the ink pasta which is quite salty, everything else was great.
A. E.
Amazing food and service. The set menu, at $65 is phenomenal value. I'd eat here all the time if I could. Great for solo diners too
T. P.
Excellent Italian food with perfect portions for a 3 course experience. Quality fresh ingredients. Highly recommended.
J. L.
Pasta and market fish are both quality guaranteed. But i think it is overpriced. As the best well known pasta restaurant in Melbourne i expect more than just good enough. Maybe i am too rigorous to Tipo. I think they should do better.
M. B. M.
nice, nice place, i love the atmosphere and service but my taste palette is a bit spoilt - i prefer their winter menu to summer. however, saying that, loved the linguini with lobster and the home made bread.
C. P.
Pastas were fantastic! Cooked al dente and has an umami taste that wants to make me go back there again!! A recommended place to head to when you're in Melbourne! Thank you chefs.
K. F.
After scouring top-rated lists of restaurants in the CBD, I selected Tipo 00 for my birthday dinner, and I was completely overwhelmed and delighted with our experience. We ordered the Chef's Menu, and the presentation was beautiful and delicious. Tom, our server, was attentive yet allowed us to enjoy our time together. The house-made pasta is like nothing else, and the value for what we received for our money was truly incredible. Thank you for making it a memorable night!
A. P.
Very good pasta restaurant in Melbourne. We shared a few pasta dishes – asked the server for a recommendation and basically went with his suggestions. All the dishes are excellent.
- Desserts are ok
- Need to make a reservation
A. L.
One of the best handmade pasta places in existence. Always a good selection of pasta and sauces: duck ragu and rabbit among theit signatures. I have been here a couple of times and have always sat at the bar. Tonight I wanted to come alone and just have a wine, pasta and read my book and felt very much at ease to do so. I ordered the special pasta was a bucatini with wagyu beef covered in a tomato and confit chilli sauce. The sauce was umami rich and the bucatini had a great al dente chew. They served complimentary homemade foccacia bread (one of the best I have had) with ricotta and basil oil.
Prices are reasonable for a hatted restaurant too.
Superb wine list too.
J.
Food was fantastic, staff were lovely, and vibe was great! Staff was able to recommend dishes to share and it turned out to be a good mix of dishes. The Jerusalem artichoke entree was amazing, that sauce 🤤
S. A.
Pretty decent Italian food, but the portions were quite small and ngl, the Tipomisu did not live up to the hype.
n.
The absolute best pasta joint in Melbourne. Staff are fantastic and food is amazing.
V.
By far the best pasta I have had so far. The service here is fantastic and it was a pretty busy night. The food was superb - tasty and well balanced. We had the spaghetti, risotto, oysters and fish for mains and the Italian doughnuts for dessert. Will definitely be coming back!
T. T.
The pasta is absolutely delicious! Service was friendly and efficient. Make sure you make a booking before you go, becasue they are always busy.
B. P.
Had the gnocchi with duck. The gnocchi had a nice soft texture and was enjoyable with every bite, however I didn't like the duck much. It just felt a bit tasteless to me. I'm not sure if it is worth the price to be honest.
F. B.
After travelling 2 months in Australia and New Zealand, Tipo 00 was by far the best restaurant we have been to and probably the best Italian I ever went outside of Italy! The restaurant is small, always busy, and staff is friendly. Typical Italian! The pastas were exceptionally good but the liver and polenta as a starter was from another planet and I had to order two in the end. Highly recommended!
L.
Great experience at Tipo! All dishes was great, service was good and the ambience of the restaurant was great too. Make sure to make a booking in advance!
N. D.
It's a must visit for some incredible pasta.

WTH! It took me 2 months to get a table reservation.. I don't mind waiting that long if food's good. Unfortunately, this high-profile restaurant didn't meet my expectation. I had Gnocchi di patate, Tagliolini Al Nero, and Tipomisu. Gnocchi was fluffy and came with savory braised duck and squid ink pasta was cooked to perfection with refreshing lemony kick. They were all decent, well-balanced dishes... just not as impressive as I anticipated. I found them dull and service definitely had some room for improvement. I personally wouldn't recommend this place - felt like it's hyped up too much
E. C.
Open concept kitchen is cool and there's daily special menu. We were served bread in olive oil with ricotta cheese before our mains. Would definitely recommend here if you are looking for Italian pasta in Melbourne! Do remember to make a reservation before visiting.
B. Y.
Great food, efficient staff. Not much of a wait for food at all. The gnochi was great, the tipomiso is more of a coffee brownee. Will come again! Portions will leave u wanting for more.
D. I.
Decent Pasta, good ambience. Staff were very helpful to find us a table even though they were busy serving a packed house. Try the duck gnocchi.
K. o.
World class pastas. Dreamy soft gnocchi - tick. Perfectly executed risotto - tick. Al-dente pasta coated in properly emulsified sauce - tick.
R. S.
Great food but challenging to get in. Probably the best gnocchi I've had and the tiramisu is absolutely heaven. Crispy chocolate layer with a thick coffee syrup poured over it.
J. L.
Awesome pasta in a cozy setting. Pasta was nicely al dante, sauce was sufficient and did not overpower everything, portion was just right - dish was a delight to finish. Place was small, but cozy with some light chatter - not uncomfortably quiet but nothing too jarring to the ears. We took the corner seats at the bar which allowed us to have a glimpse into the kitchen. Highly recommended.
C. H.
Great vibes out here. Very busy. Make sure you make a reservation or come early! I came alone so the wait was about 20 minutes at 7pm. Got the oysters which were very fresh and the tagliatelle with lamb. Great place! But a tiny bit pricy.
P. H.
The foods were fantastic. Very tasty and fresh ^^
However, the service should be considerably improved. The service was not friendly and warm enough when taking order.
A. L.
Fantastic atmosphere that serves simple yet delicious food. Squid ink pasta in particular is my fav dish.
K. J.
I want to visit and have the past again. It was so nice. I do not know how they cut calamari, it was like a kind of past. Every ingredient blended amazingly.
J. P.
Turned up without a booking but happily accommodated us and informed us of the next booking for the same table. Throughout our meal, we didn’t feel rushed. Excellent service and very delicious foods we’ll definitely go back. The calamari entree was a winner
J. F.
Really good food. Highly recommended. Not a single dish has disappointed. Ask the staff for their specials that aren’t on the menu. The crab tagliolini was so flavoursome, absolutely delicious.
I would highly recommend the squid ink dish.
Can be quite busy on Friday, Saturday and Sunday nights, be sure to call ahead to reserve a table!
Staff were so friendly, helpful and polite. Could not fault anywhere. 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻
R. S.
Was excited to try Tipo00 because of the hype but unfortunately felt that the food was underwhelming in taste and staff were blasé. Nice outdoor seating though for a summers evening
I. F.
The most delicious risotto I’ve had !!!
Waiter was very sweet and recommended a good red wine to the dish. A very popular place for lunch (book in advance) and I understand why .Very tasty ! I will be back here again!
M. M.
Must try in Melbourne, little expensive but fresh food..I had fish done olive oil n tinch of lemon n chickpea mix, and it was delectable, complimentary starter they serve was also good. Courteous staff members.
Difficult to get seat and wait time is 1 hour.
M. H.
Spaghetti was cooked perfectly. The Wagyu beef that came with it was perfectly seasoned. The chefs take a lot of pride in the presentation at the thought.
k. s.
Probably the best dining experience, I have had a long time. Great service, great food and overall just a fun time
P. W.
Outstanding food and service.. Highly recommended. Make sure you book or go very early for walk ins!

The best gnocchi (with mushroom and braised duck). Delish!
G. L.
Creative dishes, packed with flavors, and delightful service.

By far one of the best Italian experiences I've had in Melbourne. The food is not cheap but well worth the price tag. I recently sat at the bar which is actually quite nice at this intimate venue. I enjoyed a complimentary started of bread with basil ricotta followed by the creamiest burrata served on toast with green peas and puree. That was great, but the real highlight was my cheese tortellini with earthy sorrel leaves and a sauce that made me want to lick the plate clean. This place is popular for a reason.
P. Y. L.
Fantastic food, definitely would come back again highly recommend!!
W.
Easily one of the best pasta places in Melbourne!
I got the spiral type pasta with Italian sauasage, herbs, red cabbage, olive oil, a touch of chilli etc
This place is also good because the dishes are not too small.
The wine list is good and has delicious Italian wines, I got the Nebbiolo.
They serve some complimentary slices of toasted bread with a bit of goats cheese of the plate 👍🏼
H. V.
The food was divine!!! Ask for their special white truffle pasta, you will be in awe 🍝
J. N.
Very delicious. The tortelloni with cheese and mushrooms were so good, and a perfect balance of flavours. Didn't have a booking so had to get there early to get a table. Pretty worth it.
K. W.
Very delicious, good service, and will come to eat
y. H.
Good service! Delicious food. We four people ordered 4 different pasta. Beef/ prawn/ rabbit/duck. Each of them is super good! Over my expectation. Cocktail is okay. Dessert is really good! anyway, I’ll definitely go again!

Tipo00
This is my best restaurant i've ever.
Today i had a dinner in there and ate Tortelloni with pine mushrooms, sage & parmesan and Pannacotta with mandarin & lemon verbena.
Everything was perfect but i thought it would be nice if pasta had more sauces. and the dessert was completely amazing .no doubt it.
Always good i hope i go there next time again.
A. D.
The setting and atmosphere were beautiful. It was a pleasure to sit at the bar and watch the man with the alluring moustache craft the finest drinks. I had ordered the Gnocchi di patate and the flavours were outstanding. I finished off with dessert by ordering the Tipomisù. I was expecting to feel sick as most chocolate desserts are too rich in chocolate, however, this was not the case with the Tipomisù as every mouthful made me believe I was in Heaven. It was the perfect blend of ingredients which made every bite a delight. I highly recommend this amazing pasta bar as it is a must-eat if you're in Melbourne.
A. M.
Great food, filling chefs menu, amazing atmosphere, beautiful wine list and attentive staff. Definitely worth a visit in Melbourne
T.
We had lunch next door because Tipo was full but happy to give both Osteria Ilaria and Tipo00 5 stars
M. A.
Clean delicious flavours. They had white truffle in from northern Italy and served with a simple pasta with porcini broth and Parmesan. Delicious. Ox heart and burrata. Service was spot on and when we asked for a wine recommendation the waiter was super knowledgeable and knew all about the providore. They actually has a lot of knowledge on all items on the menu. Defiantly go here. But definitely book!
J. C.
Great wine selection, perfectly cooked fresh pasta, dishes are very creative and interesting, good service.
Definitely worth checking out.
D.
Struggling to find anything positive about what Comrade Dan has done to Melbourne...... at least I don’t have to stand in the pissing rain for hrs to get a table at one of my favourite restaurants.
C. Y.
Not recommend the raw beef to Asian stomach, it's light taste but fresh; the ox tongue is so delicious if you like black vinegar flavor. Both are starters.
A. T.
Good food but waited fairly long for a table as we went there without reservation. So it is advisable to make prior reservation.
L. P.
Excellent food and staff.
J. D.
Some of the best Italian food in melbs. They cater very well to GF too.
J. L.
Food is too salty (especially the gnocchi) and bit too overpriced. Tiramisu is interesting but tasted more like chocolate brownie.
J.
Pastas were good but a bit salty when i tried them. Oysters were a bit pricy for the entire vibes.
U. T.
Love visiting Tipo. Great food & service!
Lingua as a small starter is 👌😋 it literally melts in your mouth.
J. H.
This is the place where you look forward to come back as you finish your meal. Always enjoy the meals here
P.
OMG - how good was that? After all our recent travels in North America, we travelled down to Melbourne for a couple of days and had the most stunning meal. Seared flathead with braised cauliflower and tortelloni pine mushroom, pecorino & saltbush. Plus a brilliant Abruzzo rosato and finished off with a shared Tipomisù: chocolate, coffee & mascarpone.
G. M.
Exceptional! The staff are friendly, helpful, knowledgeable and efficient. Incredibly good food.
L. R.
I had lunch here today. I was given a nice complimentary bruschetta with Ricotta and olive oil. Very delicious and morish crab stuffed zucchini flower.
Good extensive wine selections
However i had a disappointing main course that is todays's special pappardelle with white truffle. The pasta was undercook even the pasta robbon was still stiff (can not rolled around the fork) when it was expected to be smooth and silky and slight al dente.
The truffle was so little that I could hardly smell the beautiful truffle fragrance. The sauce was very little, thin and watery. The dish was also very bland and flavourless. I asked for chilli to help lifting up the flavour. This plate cost me $39.
Good extensive wine selections.
I would not go back in a hurry.
C. Y. P.
Definitely one of the best pasta I ever had. The squid ink pasta is fresh and flavor is well balanced.
A. I.
Wild boar bolognese sauce parpadelle was amazingly yummy.. Pasta is always on point..
S. T.
Delicious pastas! Loved the burrata and the rabbit tagliatelle. Fantastic service.
T. M.
Amazing lunch, food was great and staff very attentive. We went with 2 children who were sharing a pasta dish, they split it across 2 plates before bringing it to the table which was great and unexpected. Highlights were the tuna tartare and the duck pasta dish.
R. P.
Great pasta definitely on my list of restaurants next visit to Melbourne fabulous pasta and wine to match

They offer an awesome variety of fresh food. I like dining here. The employees are always super friendly, rates are fair and the spot is always neat.

10/10 for food presentation, flavour, deliciousness, freshness, staff friendliness and wine list.

My gf and I had the chef's choice 4 course meal. I'm a ceoliac and they had no dramas with that at all.
Staff A++++ super friendly and knowledgeable about their wines and menu.
Food A++++ cooked perfectly, with an amazing menu with exotic meats and good sized portions. The gnocchi was incredible!!! (Mine was gluten free). The ox tongue was absolutely perfect. The scampi risotto was delicious!!!!!
Big thumbs up. Highly recommended!

The best restaurant we have been to for pasta anywhere (including in Rome and Sicily). We have been twice, on both occasions ordered the chef's menu. Squid ink pasta is amazing. Place is very busy and small, so tables are very close together. Service is excellent. Great value for the chef's menu. Definitely recommend and worth booking in advance despite the wait.
A local recommended this place. Had walked past many times and not given it a second thought. So glad we went in. Industrial feel. Concrete floors but sound is not a problem as there’s things on the walls to buffer noise out and make the acoustics better. Service is fast, professional, friendly and efficient. Menu is not complicated.
Y. T.
Food was great, service was awesome, love the friendly staff.
A. L.
Did the Chef's Menu and loved every dish. Some of them, such as the Ox Tongue, I wouldn't have ordered myself but they were all amazing. Try the grappa.

Visited for my boyfriends birthday in December and had an incredible 4 course meal!
Oysters were incredible, we kept going back for more!
Service was lovely and I requested a glass of bubbles on arrival for his bday, and they did just that!

We dined at Tipo last night with some friends. From the moment we walked in the service was beyond incredible. Our host Shar could not have been more attentive - she knew what we wanted before even we did and ensured that we were all well looked after (even substituting dishes to create vegetarian friendly versions for me). I don't even need to talk about the food as everything was well beyond our already high expectations. I couldn't recommend enough. Thank you to Shar, Andrea and the entire team for a lovely evening. Can't wait to come back soon!
R. L.
Very cosy joint serving great pasta and wine. Bookings recommended though sitting at the bar (walk ins) is a cool experience too
T.
Great pasta, great service. There's a bit of a wait but it's well worth it !
M. T.
Amazing service and food. Recommended dishes are squid pasta and the doughnuts. It was all good but these two are the must orders again when I return.
M. M.
Excellent pasta and a good vibe. Now I understand why is always so busy. Can't wait to come back
D.
Delicious Italian food, and the waiter was very knowledgeable about modifying the menu into gluten-free options for my coeliac wife. (They do not have a separate gluten free deep fryer, so the deep fried options were out, but there were still numerous gluten free dishes.) My favourite would be the artichoke and scallop risotto, followed by the prawn spaghetti and tiramisu - all done gluten free.
J. S.
This was my first experience at here and I couldn't have for a better experience. Booked online , we were reserved a nice table by the window and seated quickly. great food
J. N.
Perfectly made pasta every single time, every single plate. Texture, flavour, seasoning all perfectly balanced with the freshest ingredient.
The wine list is extensive, and reasonably priced for what it is. Service is efficient, friendly and warm.
I brought an important overseas client there and he was very impressed. After the meal, i lost my receipt and was in panic mode. I emailed them and the staff was so helpful that they comb through all their receipts of the night and found my receipt, took a photo and emailed it to me.
This is exceptional service and they now have me as a customer for life. All praise to tipo 00
C. G.
It was such an amazing experience. Very authentic Italian cuisine. The staff were very knowledgeable and looked after us well. Thanks for a fantastic meal!!!
F. T.
Awesome Italian food and lovely staff. Glad they offered bread to soak up the remaining porcini sauce, because I wasn't leaving any of that behind!
E. M.
Awesome pasta. Try the pappardelle with braised rabbit, tagliatelle with wagyu, and the gnocchi with duck ragu! Wonderful dishes.
A. C.
Been wanting to come here for the longest time. Lived up to expectations and hype. The squid ink is a must have.
M. C.
Everything we ordered were fantastic. The terrine and ox tongue for starters. Stinging nettle risotto and pasta for mains. Delicious. Service was pretty good too.
D. D.
If you want Italian, you can't go pasta Tipo 00
A solid 11/10
✅Salumi (The Culatello was the yummiest cured meat I have EVER eaten)
✅Mozarella
✅Veal Carpaccio
✅Squid Ink Pasta (NEW all time favourite pasta)
✅Duck Gnocchi
✅Caulini w Pistachio Salad
✅Salad leaves with Pear
For someone who's critical of Italian food in Melbourne, this was the most amazing experience I have ever had. Even better than the pasta I had in Rome, Florence and Venice.
Keep up the excellent work @tipo_00
A.
Now that we're out of lockdown - can't wait to return for another tasty dining experience
D. b.
Very good service and food. The Tuna starter was excellent and very nice oysters. Had the Duck Gnocchi with the Wagyu Pasta and it was also delicious.
N. D.
Great ambience, interesting Italian food.We tried a few different small plates and had the red mullet pasta special.Everything was balanced and the service was very attentive.Their Tipomisu dessert has this espresso caramel sauce, just fantastic.
l.
Excellent pasta in just the right portions, great Italian wine list. For dessert, the Tipomisu was not too sweet, rich and delicious 👌
M. L.
Fantastic Italian food with a great wine selection and probably one of the best Tiramisu I’ve ever tasted in my life.
M. N.
Known for their pastas that are made in house. Visited Tipo00 for lunch and they were really busy. They had a variety of specials and we decided to try them as well as the popular squid ink pasta. We had the zucchini flowers stuffed with crabmeat for entree and the chargrilled octopus and they were amazing. The zucchini flowers had a light crisp and the flavours were amazing. The octopus was cooked well and the the black garlic gel made the dish complete. For our mains, we had the alba truffle pappardelle and the squid ink pasta. Their pastas screams al dente perfection and was absolutely amazing. The flavours were on point and I loved the textures of the pasta. The service was amazing and will definitely be back, high recommend making bookings in advance as they are very busy
D. K.
Excellent. Pasta is made in house and cooked al dente. Clean, precise food.
M. S.
Turns out my favorite Italian restaurant in the world is in Melbourne - didn't see that coming. The menu, wine & service are all just killer. Promise.
O. K.
One of Melbourne's best. Small restaurant with outstanding food- especially the pastas and even just the foccacia they give you to start is amazing.
B. M.
Duck braised gnocchi was incredible. I’ve never had gnocchi so soft that it melts in your mouth like that!
S. H.
The food is amazing!! Soooo delicious! Their Tipomisu is to die for 😍😍😍😍😍
M. C.
Amazing!!!
We had a group of four and ordered the chef selection. This ended up including all the dishes we were curious about. My favourite two dishes were the ox tongue and the squid ink pasta which both had fresh combination of flavours. Everything we ate was wonderful but if I had to choose those would be my top.
The servers were also very friendly and attentive. The dishes were well prepared for such a reasonable price. And for a chef selection we were surprised with the comfortable serving sizes for what was approximately 11 dishes.
I. M. R.
D. B.
Found a spot on the corner of the bar for lunch and was in total bliss for a few hours. The food rolled out seamlessly from the Chefs Menu and wait staff kept the conversation and delicious Italian wines flowing. Loved it!
K. N.
Some of the food was bland and not enough flavour. Truffle Risotto was undercooked but once fixed was amazing. Other times I have been were much better than today's lunch session
a. c.
They told me 30min Waite but we Waite only 15min. It was small shop but it was beautiful place. And food was awesome .
h. s.
Very Nice Italian food!!!!!!!! Will come back again if we are in Melbourne !!!
G. R.
Had the chef's choice and matching wines for lunch today. Every dish was delicious (special mention to the tiramisu, the sauce was liquid crack), wines paired well with food. Definitely looking forward to coming back here again!
f. a.
They told me 30min but they call us back after 15min. And had a perfect seat and there food was amazing.
W. M.
Been visiting Melbourne for almost a decade now, with Tipo 00 being a place I always wanted to try ... The opportunity to eat there came up today and now I can definitely understand why people rave on about it!
Had the spaghetti with scampi and mussels which was very delicious, and they offered extra bread after I finished eating to soak up the pasta sauce with it.
Will definitely try and drop by again to try more of their dishes next Melbourne trip!
N. N.
Service was quick and attentive. Food was of high quality and delicious. The black truffle tiramisu was top notch.
V. L.
Had it during lockdown again and order squid ink pasta it’s good after it’s been soaking in its sauce and juices for a longer period of time. Adds more flavour to the pasta. The dessert tiramisu is different and rather decadent is a good treat and end to the meal. Definitely delicious and standard is slightly above average pasta
G. T.
Slightly over rated place. Had to wait close to 20mins for our table even though we had a reservation. Food was decent but not worth waiting for that long.
J. W.
The Chefs Menu was a great choice with plenty of food. The wine suggested was the perfect pairing. We will return.
L. N.
Been here twice and each time has been nothing short of amazing, in terms of both food and service. We got the Chef's Menu this time round, which was $70 per pax. This included 3 starters, 2 pastas, 1 salad and 2 desserts. You can choose to have a couple of your own choice should you really like something on the menu. By the end, we were extremely satisfied with both the quality and the quantity. Am definitely looking forward to my next meal here!
d. m.
The place was busy when we arrived and staff helpfully directed to the bar next door whilst they sorted out a table. When the table became available a staff member came next door to advise us. Staff were really friendly, the scallops starter was delicious as was the Moreton bay bug risotto. The doughnuts to finish were fab, all washed down with decent wine and liqueurs. A great meal and good value. Highly recommended.
S. B.
Rabbit tagliatelle is superb. Not cheap but definately worth it for a nice lunch or a date. Good atmosphere without being stuffy. Casual and chic.
E. H.
Incredible food, incredible service. Went there for my fiance's birthday dinner and they went out if their way to make it special. It would already have been special without their extra effort. The food was INCREDIBLE. 10/10 recommend.
H. F.
A comfortable and cosy restaurant in the heart of the city. The homemade pasta is authentic and delicious. My gnocchi with braised duck was sensational. The service is friendly and informative. If you can't get a table, sitting a the bar is just as good, if not better.
J. F.
Tipo changed my view food. Never have I been soo willing to wait, sometimes hours, for a table or book 3 months in advance then spend decent money on food. Hands down the best pasta I have ever eaten and my favorite restaurant by a country mile. We always leave fatter, satisfied and happy! Our next visit is always planned before we leave the front door! I recommend to anybody that will listen
L. K.
Delicious food. Duck and rack of lamb were our choices. The service excellent. Amazing wine list most above my budget but the charming sommelier found a very nice Italian bottle for us at a reasonable price. Overall amazing

Best pasta I've ever had IN MY LIFE
K. W.
Tiny Italian eatery serving beautifully prepared house made pastas and more. We were visiting friends in Melbourne and I had located this spot online. It wasn’t really possible to get a reservation (apparently you’ve got to call quite a ways ahead), but we at stopped in anyway on a Tuesday night around 8:15 and were able to get a spot at one of the communal tables. I was very pleasantly surprised. The place is buzzing with energy and the menu features truly Italian food with artisan ingredients and lots of care put into the dishes. They have a number of starters but what caught my eye was the house made pasta. I got an amazing pappadelle with a rich sauce and bits of braised beef-so good. My friend savored the pasta with white wine and chicken. To start they bring a few small slices of crispy focaccia and fresh ricotta cheese. This was a wonderful meal and reminded me of our many trips to Italy.
J. N.
I had really high expectations and Tipo 00 exceeded all of them. Every dish from appetizers, entrees, mains and dessert was on point. Waiters and waitresses provided phenomenal service. This is the new standard that every other Italian restaurant will be compared to. I can't wait to come back!
G. I.
Quick lunch, outstanding food. Great wine selection, handmade pasta with top quality ingredients. I'll be back
G. S.
Amazing pasta delivered to our doors, thanks for being amazing and holding us well fed during the pandemic 💕
宇.
Service was good; meals were delicious! 👍
V. M.
J. M.
What's not to like. Always hits the spot on every visit. Still talking about it after 4 weeks. See you again soon Tipo.
C. H.
Loved every minute! Our waitress, Anna, was absolutely lovely and looked after us really well. So did the bar tender and chefs. Food was delicious too. 10/10 experience, just make sure you book or go early!
D. L.
Went recently for my birthday after a long 4 month booking. Honestly food is amazing. And worth 5 stars!! However poor service nearly ruined this occasion. The waiter was from another planet I think....i.e. snatching the menu from my hands, unable and unwilling to explain the menu, interrupting conversation regularly in a harsh manner. Worst service I have ever experienced....
F. W.
Quite possibly the best pasta I’ve ever eaten! The noodles have the perfect texture and flavor while the wagyu beef sauce was rich without being heavy. Good wine selection by the glass or carafe available. The only oddity was that my dining partner ordered a dish with rabbit, but the “rabbit” looked and tasted exactly like chicken — not sure how that happens. Reservations are strongly recommended.
W. J.
Loved this restaurant! One of the best eye fillet steaks I’ve had for a long while. The express lunch is one of the best value deals going around. Best Italian food I have ever had in my life. Nothing was too much expensive. Excellent service. Recommend the 'Tipo 00' as a no fuss option.
K. T.
chose chefs menu, Delicious. followed by amazing dessert and then went to Harry Potter. What a night!
G.
Love love love. Best Italian food in the country, and a stellar wine list to match.
Really loved the burrata, bread, ox liver to start. Octopus could have been skipped (ever so slightly chewy).
Mains of duck gnocchi, prawn spaghetti, squid ink linguine were mouth watering.
L. L.
Amazing light pasta... Would come here again. Partner enjoyed it
D. M.
Cozy and vibrant restaurant. friendly and efficient staff. You can see the chefs at work in the kitchen.
Absolutely loved the flavour of the spaghetti with truffle and porcini. Everything is authentic Italian and all pasta is homemade.
J. M. D.
Really great Italian place on a side street in Melbourne. I'd call it a hole in the wall based on its size, but that would be unfair to the food. It was really good. The service was attentive and friendly. It clearly attracts a lot of people, because the place was very crowded. The only drawback was that it was loud.
k. d.
Delicious meal all round. We loved every dish we ordered from entree, main to having enough room for desserts.
P. E.
Recommended by friends. Very hidden location, small space. However, well worth the wait and booking in advance -- each time I called the place was overfull. All seafood spaghetti's on point, flavors well balanced and great serving size.
L. L.
As always, the fare and service here is top notch. Dishes are beautifully balanced and prepared with love. Truly authentic Italian cuisine done right!
I.
Decided to give myself a treat for my last day in Melbourne, and absolutely did not regret it. Had the chef's special for the night for starters, roasted quail on lentils and then the rabbit fettuccine. The starter was good (4/5), but the rabbit was AMAZING. Quite possibly one of the best pasta meals I've had. Dined alone and was offered the corner seat the bar (left side when you enter), the place had a nice ambience and I had a lil view of the action going on in the kitchen which was quite nice.
A. B.
We purchased the prepare at home food, the Wagyu Rigatoni, Focaccia and for dessert the Tipomisu.
Ordering was simple and easy as was collection.
The instructions were emailed through and really easy to follow.
The food in short was amazing and we have missed eating in the restaurant!
Take advantage of the opportunity to try food from a hard to visit in normal time restaurant.
Thank you Tipo 00
N. J.
We had the most delicious pasta, risotto and nigronis here!! Great value for money when the food is that delicious and the service is that fantastic. Will definitely return, again and again, suggest to friends and take people here that are visiting Melbourne.
g. s.
Food is good, no question with that. But because of the restaurant is always full and busy, you will feel you need to finish quickly. It seems like you are not a allowed to stay longer and relax after meal, because server keeps asking you are done/all good/anything more and straight away here's the bill.
You will feel like, okay they're trying to say. Pay now so we can give the table to others.
B. M.
Delicious restaurant with friendly staff and nice, chilled atmosphere. Can get a little packed at lunch but they make it work! The tagliatelle with truffle is spectacular, and the orange wines were nice too - particularly for a refreshing lunchtime vino!
J. A.
Hands down best restaurant experience I’ve had. Chefs menu was awesome. One of my party decided he didn’t want the dessert, when the waitress saw the untouched plate she went and organised a different dessert unasked for by us, for free. Just so good.
J. B.
My favourite Italian restaurant in Melbourne, hands down. Intimate venue so perfect for a date or small group, the staff are attentive and warm. I'm determined to try everything on the menu, and am close to getting there! The wine selection is fantastic too. I can't rave enough about this place. It's always my first recommendation to friends if they're looking for a restaurant to try. I will be coming back, again and again.
N. S.
We visited Tipo a couple of days before lockdown of Restaurants. We have always enjoyed the food and service and this time was no different. I really hope that the restaurant survives this incredible upheaval of society and hope to dine there again once the world has beaten the virus.
S. L.
We had the Italian sausage pasta & risotto dish as well as the greens salad. All the dishes were made to perfection and the ingredients were so fresh! The service was great too. One of the best Italian restaurants in Melb and I’ve tried quite a few. My only recommendation is to get there early as it gets very busy.
A. D.
One of the best places to eat in Melbourne, well worth the wait for a table
J. S.
Small restaurant serves homemade pasta. Tasteful combinations with seasonal ingredients. Had the fried stuffed squash flowers and they were amazing, light and flavourful. Servings are sized appropriately for you to enjoy both appetizer and main.
M. P.
Walk in/booking situation is a bit annoying but the food lived up to the hype.
We're not a fan of the 'queue to dine' experience, and in a City with so many fantastic eateries don't see the point in wasting our time. Booking is possible, but only if you are prepared to wait (we booked 3 months in advance). I can understand why they do it, but this the main reason for dropping a star.
We had the Chef's tasting menu, with the addition of zucchini flowers stuffed with Morton Bay bugs to start. The food was incredible - flavours and textures were all bang on. A lot of complaints have been on the service, but we couldn't fault it at all - I'm always suspicious of people who complain about service as it's often the customer that is the root cause of the problem.
All in all, it lived up to the hype in terms of the food, but it would be better if booking were easier/quicker. I guess we'll just have to come back in another three months
S. A.
Stunning flavours! My wife and i celebrated 9 years together here. Our waiters service was amazing! Got the Salumi selection, oysters, followed by crab/saffron risotto, Italian sausage pasta, Pesce and panne cotta to finish off. Absolutely delicious food from the heart! Well worth the wait! 5 stars all round.
J. S.
Rigatoni is very good, as is the zuchini flower. The wait can be painful if you don’t have a reservation though.
J. N.
First time eating at Tipo's, fantastic food great service highly recommend you won't be disappointed. Chefs selection was a tremendous way to try out so many flavours.
V.
Locked in a lunch here a week or so ago. What a restaurant. No wonder it is in every 'must-visit when in Melbourne list'. Stunning. I had the ravioli, tried the special seafood pasta as well as some scallops. What a feed! Additionally, the bread, oil and ricotta for entree was magnificent. Prices are also extremely reasonable for a place with such accolade. Would highly recommend
T. J.
Very cosy and welcoming Italian restaurant. If coming in off the street, come early or you will be disappointed. This place is popular. Lovely food, nice portion size, and flexibility around drinks orders - (you can order a carafe if a bottle is too much. Tables are turned over reasonably quickly, but we were not pressured to finish. A very comfortable experience.
s. s.
Had high expectations on the food and was not disappointed. Each painstakingly selected ingredient contributes to the greatness of the dish. Prices are modest compared to other locations and portions are filling. Came here a few times and it's definitely worth checking out.
M. P.
The food here is to die for. Menu is simple but everything is done beautifully in lovely combination. I love my spaghettini with red mullet. The fish is delicious and fresh.
My best friend had the rabbit with tagliatelle. She was very impressed with the dish. It was super tasty. Venue is tiny however and if you happen to do walk-in, you’ll be seated at the bar, make sure you don’t carry a big bag or it will be quite annoying and get in a way of everyone around you.
A.
Food was okay but the seat was too close to other table bar seat is better if u want some privacy.
R.
Really nice intimate Italian restaurant with solid food choices and friendly staff. Good came out quickly after we let the staff know we were attending a show later. Good wine selection and desserts too!
P. N.
One of the best places to have delicious Italian cuisine. The place is small and cozy and has a long wait if not reserved well in advance. But the wait is worth every penny. The burrata with heirloom tomatoes is to die for! The zucchini flowers with tomato sauce were delicious. We had vegetarian friends and they catered the gnocchi to suit them and it was decadent! Will definitely recommend tipo00 for everyone
J. J.
Food, service, atmosphere was all on point. Great for any occasion especially a spontaneous date! You will need to book, unless your happy to pop your name down and go grab a drink somewhere while you wait which is easy enough given the convenient location.
J. N.
We keep coming back for more each time. Every dish is meticulously put together with flavour, quality products and plating in mind. We will definitely see you soon.
L. D.
I come to Tipo00 for lunch every time I've visited Melbourne from Brisbane and I'm never disappointed. Their pastas and risotto are insanely good and their waitstaff are very attentive and professional. I've become a very loyal fan over the past two years
R. Y.
Some of the best Italian I've ever eaten.
A must do for visiting Melbourne
L. H.
Amazing meal in the heart of Melbourne! 4 of us came for lunch, each had a different pasta dish and every one was delicious. Complimentary foccaccia and basil ricotta was a lovely start, with the courgette flowers and beetroot. Best pasta we had in Melbourne, and service and wine list was great too!
P. L.
Went to eat alone, and as an Italian I found some taste that are missing from other Italian restaurants. From amazing starters to tasty pasta and finish with a house-dessert and a glass of limoncello.. couldn't ask better
Add to this professional and caring staff!

Wow wow wow! Initially they were booked up, but we received a phone call with a cancellation (great service straight away). The menu and wine were really exceptional, I had the Gnocchi which I think is the best I've ever rated outside of Italy! Fantastic service too. Can't wait to go back!
K. L. C.
We had four dishes including the squid ink (which serves more as a coloring apparatus than actual additional taste). No bookings except on the spot so be prepared to wait a long time. I would not say the quality of the pasta were amazing, but ok.
P. K.
Excellent sevice and amazing food. I know why there is such a wait for reservations. Make one weeks in advance and be sure to order the chef's selection. A bit of everything. All of it delicious. We will be back with friends.
A. O.
We booked our table at least 2 months in advance - this place has a big reputation.
It was very nice but no more.
Calamari with broad beans and blue potatoes was the highlight. Rabbit ragu tagliatelle was fairly good and Spanner crab spaghetini was extremely good (but not outstanding).
There are Italian restaurants in Melbourne that are just as good - but available either walk-up or on a few days' notice.
Overall, good but overrated.
A. H.
Great vibe, yum food and friendly staff! You'll love the flavours and great wine selection. It's got a large cult following and is always booked out. The prices are reasonable, howeber the food isn't 10/10 taste. It's a solid 8/10 - still v. yum!
A. A.
Cute little restaurant, delicious ox tongue entree and rabbit pasta. Easy to get walk in tables early in the night.
T. C.
Awesome night! We went and had the chef's menu and it was great value for money for fine dining. $70 pp for three entrees, two mains, and two desserts was so scrumptious and filling!
Can especially reccomend the duck gnocchi, squid ink linguini, and the beef carpaccio.
T. N.
A pleasant but slightly overambitious experience. A beautiful atmosphere with a lovely setting and delicious food that probably charged enough for a restaurant twice it's quality (sorry). Highly recommended for anyone seeking authentic Italian cuisine with a bit of a Tipo twist. I can confidently say I would return in a heartbeat.
O. P.
It was good.... not worth the 1hour wait. Cramped inside and every time the door would open the cold air would rush in... needless to say... i had to put my coat on within 5 mins of sitting down. I was wondering why did all the patrons... at least the ladies... have the coats on. The tuna tartare was delicious, and the homemade focaccia with the olive oil on the homemade ricotta.. could have had heaps of that. We did get the moreton bay bug gnocchi and the duck ... 40 bucks for 5 cm of bug tail is a bit exi... especially for a very light portion.. and the bug was stringy... tbh it was a bit under...it had not cooked through.. the duck was very good as well... the desserts are good, both the tipomissu and the panna cota were delicious esp the espresso caramel! Divine... overall enjoyable, but very pricey, and uncomfortable so probably can tick this one off and move on.
Melbourne has amazing dining out options... at the end of the day it is the customer experience that takes it over the edge and makes a venue become an institution... i look at reviews and try my very best do describe an experience as factually correct as possible and accept that each experience may be unique.
L.
Exceptional service. Staff know their wines and I'd highly recommend the stinging nettle risotto. The duck gnocchi was also really good. All in all, nice intimate pace to have a small catch up with friends. Prices range from around $15-40 for a main. Would recommend!
A. H.
Unreal pasta, lived in Melbourne for three months, came here for one of my first meals and made sure I came here for my last. One of the best pasta dishes I have had anywhere in the world. It does get busy every night of the week, so make sure you book a long way ahead or arrive early and put your name down.
K. S.
Managed to put our names on the list about 6:30pm on Friday night. Went shopping at emporium and got the call that a table was free by 7.15pm. Good size portions, exquisite pasta. The tiramisu is one of the best. Can't wait to try the rest of the menu.
E. H.
Overrated. That’s all I can say. Nothing exceptional. There’s no doubt the pasta was fresh but my partner’s gnocchi was too soft. For the price, this Italian restaurant will definitely not be getting a second visit from us.
Edit: passionfruit panna cotta was delicious
T. L.
Authentic Italian cuisine, service is always great. Went there twice, tried the duck gnocchi and the lamb tagliatelle. Both were sublime. You may find pasta elsewhere in Melbourne seasoned with a lot of parmesan cheese on top - but nothing like tipo 00 with a great balance of flavour and really authentic Italian cuisine. Definitely 5 stars
o. w.
Homemade pasta. Food was so delicious with professional service.
S. S.
Pasta? Pasta. This place is just amazing. Some of the best pasta I've ever had. A changing menu and specials make sure you always have something new to try out.
A great selection of wine with a good number of them on glass or carafe and a superfriendly staff makes this place my favourite restaurant in Melbourne.
C. P.
What's not to love what gorgeous food! Delightful and absolutely beautiful. #foodporn
M. C.
I went here on Saturday with my best friend, and the staff, food and atomsphere were amazing, situated on Little Bourke Street, with parking on Queen Street flat rate $10 on the weekend, was a hidden gem along the alleys and with the alfresco dining outside gives that little Italy feel that makes you feel like you are far away from the hustle and bustle, for 3 glasses of wine and 3 entrees was $105.00 but so worth it, i would recommend for a special date venue, or a long overdue catch up with friends and family, i recommend and will come back.
J. W.
I've eaten here many times. Mostly it has been brilliant. This time however, the calves liver entree tasted mildly metallic and the baby snapper speghettini was delicious albeit I think it had a little too much butter. Previously both dishes without fault - stellar in fact. So either the chef has moved on, or maybe had a bad day. Anyway still a great place with brilliant food, ... but not perfect.
A. S.
One of the best meals I’ve had in Melbourne. Fantastic value and a great vibe.
Great date venue
Great service.
The only bad thing about this restaurant is that it has a three month wait to reserve a table. Here’s a top tip for you... head to the restaurant an hour or so before your meal and ask for a walk in. There’s plenty of great bars nearby so grab a drink or two and the friendly staff will call you up and let you know when a table is free.
Enjoy!
D. W.
Amazing pasta and the first time in my life that I enjoyed eating polenta. The staff were also very nice and helpful trying to make us fit in with a big pram and two babies. Highly recommended.
J. B.
Visited this place upon the recommendation from a friend who is a Melbournean: there's nothing quite like a local's perspective to guide you in the right direction! Tried to make a booking for 2, but due to the size of the establishment, they were only accepting walk-ins. Luckily, we only had to wait an hour (on a Saturday afternoon). The staff were friendly & knowledgeable. Everything was outstanding: from the cheese with peas, to the duck pasta, but the clear winner was their tipomasu!
A. C.
Exceptional service and Italian food! From the time we were let into the doors at 1130, to the time we left, I especially enjoyed every moment of it, although we didn't reserve for lunch and was given a seat by the bar. By 1145, the entire restaurant ran out of seats and everything was bustling.
What I liked, however, was that I was able to observe from the side, how the entire place was ran and I was impressed to say the least. The way the kitchen was run, the bar, the servers, and the food oh the food.
Do make sure you try the ox tongue, the fresh oysters, and the pastas. We had the carbonara which was lovely but running on limited availability, and if I had the choice I'd order the salmon and salmon roe pasta too!
t. c.
Great food and service. Had the chef's menu which was a decent amount of food given the price.
Pastas were on the lighter more fresh side, which iana refreshing change from the usual heavier sauces.
A very enjoyable experience
A. E.
If it's not the best Italian restaurant in Melbourne, it's defensively one of the best. Food is amazing, go with the chef's menu, it is value for money.
Also you can expect to receive a really good service by nice staff.
C. L.
Highly recommend this Pasta Bar to anyone that pays Melbourne a visit. They are definitely worth the queue/wait in line. The menu isn't extensive but each dish does not disappoint especially the Truffle Mushroom risotto.

Amazing food, amazing polite and kind staff, awesome drinks and venue, that includes the sister restaurant next door, Osteria Llaria

Great food, lovely staff.

Very good pasta restaurant in Melbourne. Their spanner crab with linguine tasted out of this world though and I would probably order this again... if the black squid ink pasta doesn’t entice me away again! The food quality was insane.

Fabulous food wine and service

We had to wait 2 hours because the host skipped our name on the list but later apologised with aranchini so he was promptly forgiven. We ordered the Calamari, which was a new experience for me. The ox tounge, absolutely beautiful. The duck gnocchi, I can't recommend this highly enough it was devine. And the pork sausage casarecce which was very nice. For dessert we had the chocolate and mascapone tart with coffee sauce, would have preferred to pour the sauce ourselves as it seemed to overpower the taste of the tart. And the lemon cake with pistachio ice-cream, beautifully light flavours of lemon and the ice-cream was amazing. We didn't want to fill up on drinks because we were too busy eating. Highly recommended this place but expect to wait.

Decent pasta, good service, very packed on a Monday 1pm. It's an open kitchen here so you can see how fresh they make their pasta - was made in front of your eyes.

Was served by Anna and she was great! Knew the menu well and helped pick wine to match the meal. Can't wait to be back in Melbourne again to visit for delicious food.

Tipo 00 is a very busy restaurant and even as a single eater, there was a 30 minutes wait on this Saturday. Reservation is highly recommended. They have a sister restaurant next door and you are welcomed to get a drink there while waiting for table here. The server and the waiting staff could not be any friendlier.

Fantastic food and service. Would recommend!

The food was amazing. We had people from our group who have traveled the globe and eaten at some of the most exclusive restaurants in the world. Tipo had a relaxed atmosphere, brilliant wait staff, excellent wine options and accommodated one of our people who was a vegetarian. You must try the chef's selection 10/10 Tipo 00..

Pasta perfection. Handmade, springy pasta with sauces that don't overpower the main star of the dishes. Flavours were on-point and balanced! I've been waiting to taste napolitana sauce like this again after many a pasta disappointment.
Portions sizes seem to get a rap from others but I think they're rather perfect. Not too much but not too meagre.
Gnocchi were clouds melting in my mouth! Can't wait to get back here again but alas booking is a must. Or get there early and be prepared to wait awhile!

Pretty good pasta but not worth the hype /wait.

I especially liked this place for their Italian hospitality! We went earlier than opening time at 1130, and was promptly assigned a seat at the bar area, and was very well taken care of by everyone in the restaurant. We got to meet almost every server and managers they had, which was in part due to their given responsibilities each, but I found it absolutely beautiful that something like this happened.
Food and recommendations given by them were also very much en pointe, and this is especially helpful for a first timer to this restaurant.
Do try the ox tongue, the fresh oysters, and the pastas. I personally had the daily special eel carbonara, which is gorgeous if you're into creamy pasta, and my partner had the pesto risotto with the amazing ricotta cheese. Our neighbors had the scallop and roe aglio, which looked really good too!
All in all an enjoyable experience, but do make sure you're there early or make reservations way beforehand, or else you'll end up without a seat. They open at 1130, and by 1145 the bar seats were full (not kidding).

Simply awesome food & service. Zero drama & fuss, 100% flavor! Yes, a bit pricey, but worth it in my book...and as good as anything I’ve eaten in Italy! Jeremy (bartender) was very engaging & helpful!

Fresh octopus entree, amazing squid ink pasta and their own delightful take on tiramisu for dessert.

Wow really special foods. Great quality and reasonable priceb

Eating at Tipo was an absolute delight. It's not pretentious and the service is friendly and down to earth. The food is superb, pasta is perfectly al dente and flavoursome. Do not leave without trying the tipomisu signature dessert, it's amazing!
M. K.
Highly recommended! Awesome food and staff. Had the Spaghetti and Tagliolini al nero and they were both great. Tipomisu is a must if your going to have dessert! Worth it if you enjoy italian food.

Delicious gnocchi and melt in the mouth grilled ox tongue. Table service was friendly and pleasant but the management wasn't.

We read through the reviews in Trip advisors and mentally prepared ourselves for bad services before we went there. And in reality - services are pretty good!
We tried our luck on a weekday evening around 6:30pm. The waitress told us to wait for ~30mins and she took our mobile number and called us when the table is ready. This is exactly what happened.
My husband and I ordered pasta & grilled fish - both are very tasty (I esp. like the pasta!! with rabbit meat) I would love to go there again for another meal but unfortunately it was our last evening in Melbourne.

Cosy Italian restaurant on Little Bourke near Chinatown. Came for lunch on a weekday, greeted and seated within 5 minutes without a reservation. Confident staff, simple uncomplicated menu with fresh beautiful flavour combinations, extensive wine list, ample portions and the food was bloody amazing. Rabbit tagliatelle highly recommended. Service and ambience were flawless.

Thank you for my delivery this evening. Our meal was amazingly delicious!
You do it so well even in these incredibly challenging times! Highly recommend!.

Always a good option for dinner if you are craving for good pasta. The only restaurant that we have revisit multiple times and many years in a row.
Only catch is that it is hard to get a seat during meal times.

Do yourself a favour and (1) eat here and (2) make a booking! We ate here yesterday and were lucky to get a spot at the bar for lunch. Their pasta is incredible and the service is unbelievable. A must if you're travelling to Melbourne!
M. H.
It's worth the wait to get a spot here. I booked super early and came with a small group. The food was amazing, had the lamb shoulder, washed down with a bottle of wine and started planning when we'd be back so we can try everything else on the menu. Absolutely worth a try.
C. H.
Very good pasta, though we only got for the Truffle Risotto (seasonal) and the Duck Gnocchi. The pasta may change (had Truffle Spaghetti instead this time) but the flavours are always good.
H. S.
Pretty average experience. Food was okay. Portions were small for a typical australian meal and price was rather steep. Ambience was okay as well. Service was good though. Would not recommend given the choices in melbourne.
A. E.
Pasta consistently superb, staff good. If you don’t want to book come early or saturday in between rushhour, get seated by the bar, dishes are restrained excellence and superb without showing off. Simple palates may miss the genius.
K. C.

With an open kitchen, you can smell all the great food being made there. I had a big lunch, as I wanted to try a few dishes. There is an amuse bouche, which is a ciabatta slice with ricotta and pesto dip. Then I ordered the daily special starter, which was a zucchini flower stuffed with cheese and herbs. It was delicious. Then I tried the Spaghettini - saffron spaghettini, spanner crab, confit tomato & zucchini, which was delicious. I had a salad to go with it. Basically the pasta was out of the world and I highly recommend it.

Love it! If you find it hard to make a booking come at late lunch or early dinner. Good quality 👍

Authentic and as good as any pasta joint in Italy I have been to. Tried the tasting $70 tasting menu which came with focaccia+riccota + delicious arrancini ball starters, 2 entrees of fresh baby calamari and heirloom tomatoes with burrata, two pastas the crab spaghettini and a phenomal gnocchi with braised duck, and a pannacotta + the tipomisu which was easily one of the most delicious chocolate deserts I have ever had. Very impressed with the value and diversity here for $70, yet to find better value in Melbourne. Largely simple dishes but classic flavour combinations stunningly put together and with delicious fresh ingredients. Highlights at every turn but the gorgeously light and fluffly gnocchi was likely among the best I have had anywhere, with incredibly tender duck and delicious sauce that went beautifully with the pecorini. The tipomisu likely the most creative and impressive dish served, unbelievably silky texture with slight resistance without an overly rich sweetness or chocolate flavour, accentuated particularly well by the chocolate caramel sauce poured over the top to add a slight saltiness. Unlike most tiramisus none of the flavours here were overpowering or sickly, that perfect balance of flavours across the board for every dish here was definitely key.

Had an incredibly wonderful lunch date with my boyfriend here a few weeks back, as his final lunch in Melbourne before leaving the city for good! A much smaller venue than expected so make sure to book in advance (I think dinner tables are much more sought after than lunch, so if you're looking for a slightly quieter experience, I would recommend lunch)! The food was simple with interesting twists and incredibly fresh ingredients. I'd recommend doing the 'feed me' menu which if I remember correctly is $65pp and VERY worth the money!

Tipo 00 looks like a typical Melbourne eatery you would visit for a casual meal, so the food came as a surprise to me. We had the 'chef's menu' degustation. I'm vegetarian and my food was excellent, with as much variety and creativity as what was served to the meat-eaters. Allergies were also catered for with no fuss. Service was excellent despite it being full and busy on a Friday night. It is popular so I wouldn't expect to get in without a reservation - book a few weeks in advance.

Must try! Probably the best pasta you can have in Melbourne. If you have the time to make reservations you should but getting there early evenings also work. A little bit of wait but definitely worth it.

The best Italian food in Melbourne, hands down. A small cosy restaurant boating fresh handmade pasta using local ingredients. The staff are friendly and do their best to look after you. Go for the Chef's Menu, for $65 you will roll out the door full and content.

Elegant and tasty dishes. Extremely nice wait staff. This is a must if you’re in Melbourne and like Italian cuisine. I do travel a lot and not a lot of places leave such a good impression on me.
Ordered Rump Cap with Green beans, macadamias and a sweet potato sauce plus some polenta chips. Polenta chips were great - good taste, not too oily, crunchy on the outside - fluffy on the inside.
As for the mains - my compliments to the chef - the rump cap is absolutely exquisite - perfectly cooked and a great combination of flavours.

My wife had been here on a company lunch last year. Now, if you know anything about her, you'll know that she has some of the highest standards when it comes to food - and she's proud of it. She isn't - that - into Italian food, but she raved about Tipo.
We had a weekday off, so we went for an early lunch. We were there 12ish and without a booking, managed to snag a slot from 12:30 til 1:30. We started off with bread that I honestly could have happily eaten until I was full. It was freshly baked, slightly cheesy with a small dish of extra virgin olive oil and a smattering of mashed goat's cheese.
For our entree, we shared a dish of Calamari. That was lovely. My love then had the Spanner Crab Spaghettini, while I had the Gippsland Rabbit Pappardelle. I'd never had rabbit before; it didn't taste gamey at all. We also shared the mocktail of the day: elderflower and grapefruit. The sweetness was offset by the bitterness of the grapefruit perfectly.
All in all, it set us back just a bit of $100. It was worth every dollar; I would definitely recommend it. Get in quick, because it got busy very quickly as time passed.

Wow. I have eaten all over the world and i have really only had an amazing experience 3 times. Once at Matterhorn (Wellington) for desert and twice here. The maitre de was super professional and the bar lady had great tips for vino. The food was amazing and I thank you for having me. My compliments to the Chefs' I know how hard it is. My only regret is not leaving a bigger tip. I shall bring my friends back, to make up for it. Thank you. It was amazing.. Bravo. A top product. Respect.

I am absolutely never disappointed in this place. I dined this evening for my partners birthday and it was second to none. Although we were unable to make a booking due to such high popularity we happily put our name down at 6pm and went for a drink, we were called at 7.30 to come back to be seated. A long wait for some.. but my god, it is worth it. Absolutely outstanding food and wine and impeccable customer service. These guys are the best example of hospitality professionalism in this city. We are eagerly awaiting out next tipo experience!

4/5 stars because they could not accomodate my wife's dietary requirements which was disappointing. But, probably the best pasta I have ever had (and I jave had a lot in a lot of 'nice' places in Australia and abroad). Delicious! And a good drinks selection.

Entrees were average, pastas were very good. Service was non existent, plates dropped onto our table with no regard. Would go back just for a quick pasta meal, other than that not worth the 1hr wait.

Absolutely amazing!! From the complimentary focaccia’s to the amazing pasta... oh my I am hooked! Tipo 00 really delivers and I cannot wait to be back! Food and service were 10/10!!

Not rated the best restaurant in Melbourne for nothing. The hype is real. Book early, or be willing to line up at opening time for a bar seat. You can also put your name down for the second lunch sitting if you're willing to wait and they'll call you when the table is ready.
L. K.
Food was tasty, although a bit on the pricey side. Recommendations: squid ink pasta&duck gnocchi. Major let down for this place is the old fashioned booking system. Walk ins...forget it. Bit of a snobby vibe when trying to book two times previously. This time made a booking in person over a month in advance only to find the booking was never there when we turned up. Luckily they managed to accommodate us being 5.30pm on a Tues, although they didn't seem all that friendly about it...
K. J.
Always a pleasure going here. Undoubtedly one of the best Italian and specifically best pasta establishments in Melbourne. Not cheap but when you consider the quality of the food, I think it's good value for money.
D. L.
Simply loved the taste of fresh pasta. Good wine list as well. Service was attentive despite peak hour time. Will definitely return and I'm not the type of person who frequents the city

Wandered in as a party of four without a reservation and was lucky enough to be offered a table. Amazing authentic pasta - the rabbit pappaderlle was a hit around the table. Nice, friendly service from staff. Will be back!

We were very lucky to get a booking here for lunch on a workday as the place is too popular for its size. Their pasta is superbly done and the ingredient proportions are well calculated. Recommended dish would be the Gnocchi di patate which is the braised duck, porcini mushroom & pecorino pepata. Absolutely worth a visit.
M. G.
Amazing food and worth the wait! It is a small restaurant that is a go to place for delicious pasta! Highly recommend the duck gnocchi and our waitress Anna was an absolute gem!

Amazing food. A must-do in Melbourne. Had a linguine with prawns special that had a light touch of chili that may have been the best meal at an Italian restaurant I have ever had (and my mother is Italian).

Great food and atmosphere and excellent service.
