Comments of Barnyard1978 Food Wine Honey

One of our favourite spots that always deliver on quality of food, wine and service.
Seasonal produce menus, known for their beautiful homemade pasta (with on site hen friends providing fresh eggs). Understandably more limited menu in these trying covid times, but oh wow the food was delicious.
Great dining experience. Very accomodating helping us to decide which lovely wines and beers to accompany our meals. Cheese and dessert option to finish with homemade cakes and slices available for more variety.

This place has been added to one of my fav to go. Small menu, but we totally enjoyed every single dish we had. Fresh ingredients and appetizing presentations. The prawn were grilled so well and the cod fish were fabulous. Can’t decide which dish is my fav as there were all so tasty. Will definitely be going back when I am down south again. Recommended to book in advance. I had early lunch at 11am. Once past 12pm, the tables started to fill up.

Having stayed in the Barn Hives accommodation on site, some months ago, we have been planning to come to the Barnyard for food.
We came for lunch on a Saturday and we were very impressed. A bright open space. Large windows affording great views. And the food was delicious. I ordered the penne pasta not really sure what else was in the dish. I needn't have worried. It was delicious. Soft cheese. Tomatoes. And a healthy addition of salami. I loved it all.
Mrs C had the barramundi and it was to die for. So tasty. She complemented her lunch with a tasty wine and I had a mouth watering home brewed ale.
Highly recommended.

Went with two other friends for a lazy Sunday lunch. Food and services was superb. Small dishes to share worked well. The quality and balance of each dish was really well executed. The really amazing thing was that we were there well after everyone else had gone and there was zero pressure from the staff to leave. That in of itself is worth the visit. Cannot recommend highly enough.
T. H.
We only came here for the wine tasting. The chefs in the restaurant looks like they are cooking up a storm. We enjoyed some red wine with a nice female waitress (from Lithuania), she was very polite, friendly and communicated well
Definitely coming back here for a wine tasting - $5/person
They also sell honey but unfortunately no tastings
R. M.
Their home. Made pasta is to die for!! One of thr best pasta meals I've ever had in my life. I think it was the freshness of thr pasta and the subtle mix of flavours and textures. The veg pasta was maxing!! Wines weren't bad either. And our son loved the wild Chickens that walked around the property... It laso had a kids play area.

Small menu but the food was great. The smoked kangaroo was delicious but the beef tataki was our favourite dish here. Restaurant has a very clean interior, and the wine is definitely worth trying.
L. l.
Attentive service. Gorgeous views from every table. Family friendly and of course great food. House baked bread was worth the wait. Recommend the pork belly and scallops and kangaroo. Chardonnay is pretty good too. Our second visit and we will be back.
M. R.
Food is Awesome!! Even nice on a hot day. dog friendly 👌

Great food, great service, great location!
The location on caves road is perfect for a weekend lunch. Top quality meals served on a great deck overlooking the vineyard. Lamb ribs a must, so too the squid entree!
Plenty of things to keep kids young and old occupied including a playground, baby chicks and creative sculptures from a local artist.
Wine tasting is also available. The staff were amazing and catered well to kids. Really laid back atmosphere, highly recommended.
B. C.
We were just looking for a place to settle lunch after spending the morning at Canals Rocks. Chance upon this place which is situated at the exit road. Drawn by the large sculpture, we decided to do lunch there. We were surprised! The pasta with pulled lamb, pork belly and kid's meal are absolutely fabulicious! Service is excellent and the playground, with roaming chickens, was a joy to the kids! Overall it is the best way to end our trip to Margaret River!
m.
An EXCELLENT lunch experience! Very Friendly staff, so polite and accommodating. Food was wonderfully prepared and so tasty, a great venue to wine and dine or head out the back for a more relaxed atmosphere where your up close and in view of the beautiful vineyard - quaint and so pretty from where we were seated! I loved the quality of our dishes and just absolutely full of flavour! Dad had a coffee - he mentioned that it was very nicely brewed. Honey sold here is ample and options seem unique. I recommend a visit here :)
Y. L.
We had cured duck and penne pasta for the main course. Best pasta ever!!! We love the food here. Staff are very friendly and attentive too.
R. O.
We had lunch here and were very impressed with the quality of the food. The meat was well cooked - it's well worth trying the dish with the kangaroo meat, lamb ribs and sausage! The majority of their dishes are pasta dishes and they make good pasta. The mushroom dish and the salmon mac and cheese dish are also very nice. There's a playground for the kids and glass walls for good views while you eat. There are both indoor and outdoor eating areas. They also sell fresh homemade pasta as well as their wines.
S. W.
Popped in for a bite and a glass of wine. Terrific service from a lovely young lady. Salmon salad and sourdough with truffle butter that actually tastes of truffle were both delicious. A quirky place with indoor and outdoor seating. Some pasta produce and hen and duck eggs for sale. Lovely green location with on site parking including disabled and disabled access.
B. W.
It Wasn’t the best experience for the price Six people, ,the menu wasn’t as we had viewed online , the food is overpriced and while some meals were reasonable, a couple were below acceptable and hardly touched.
The service was average,
Over all pretty underwhelming.
A. M.
Glorious food, great service and entertaining chickens
W. M. L.
Stumbled upon Barnyard for lunch, which impressed us. Ordered the duck confit, grilled octopus, seafood squid ink pasta and mushroom papperdelle. Great customer service. Highly recommendes
D. T.
Lovely space and they specialize in handmade pasta. The space itself was gorgeous- bright and airy, we were seated on the veranda out in the back overlooking the vineyard.
The pasta was delicious and portion sizes were substantial. I had the squid ink pasta with fish and rocket and it was delicious and was very full. Service was also pleasant and the waitresses were very attentive.
D. A.
Popped in for lunch whilst driving around sight seeing. Eclectic menu options with interesting options. Mostly pasta orientated meals - gnocchi, linguine and spaghetti options. Food was tasty, fresh and well served. We had a bottle of SSB to share which was really good too! The venue welcomes your loving pets too, which I love to see!
M. T.
The food here is something else - we stayed at the Siena Lodge next doors and had two breakfasts and a lunch here in Dec 2016. I can't fault anything really - we tried four different breakfast options (see photos) - all amazing. As was the pasta/gnocchi for lunch. If you're a beer fan, you also have to try the restaurant's own horizontal goose and "something" duck beers (upbeat rabbit was sold out:)) they also make excellent coffee and the staff is super friendly, including the owners.
Plus the floor to ceiling glass walls of the restaurant and the nice patio area open up to the wineyard - so you really feel like you're in the wine country.
You must pop by, if you're after a pleasant unpretentious morning/afternoon and some yummy food with good views and service with a smile.
You can also buy some local honey and fresh pasta, in addition to the barnyard wine, to take home with you.
D. W.
Pop in for brunch as it was recommended. The food and view was awesome and there was a playground for the kids to run around while you enjoy the food and wine. They even have honey tasting up to 10 different types along with wines and craft beer to try as well.
D. R.
HIGHLY RECOMMEND! A stylish eco-friendly hub of self contained “hives” set amongst the vineyards of Barnyard1978 in the stunning Yallingup wine region. Perfect for a romantic weekend or midweek getaway. Fully self contained, comfortable and minimalistic. Pop into the cellar door or restaurant to complete your stay.
P. K.
We did not have food from here, only the honey tastings. The staff that served us were very friendly and the honey was spectacular. It was hard to only pick a few to take home with us. The pots of honey come in a variety of sizes and prices. It is not cheap, but you get what you pay for when it comes to the quality of the product.
P. J.
It's quite pricey but the food worth it. Presentation is 10/10. Highly recommend Wedge Island chargrilled optopus.
s. l.
Limited menu however the food was really tasty and looked great. The staff at the restaurant were all friendly and you could purchase different types of honey made at the Barnyard.
5. F.
The restaurant is in a nice environment but Very limited options in the menu and not much in GF section either. So we just ordered an entree, bit pricy. So I mentioned about the limited choice in the menu to the manager and was told that pub is a better option for us. Mmmmm....
G. W.
Surprisingly beautiful spot for a restaurant. Good staff and great service. The weather on the day we visited was nice and the design of the building allowed for breezes to pass through the entire restaurant. For something a little unique you can wine taste and honey taste while waiting for the delicious pasta to be made. If your a foody, you can even w atch the chefs prepare your meals through the large window adjacent to the kitchen.
K. H.
Pasta was delicious, cute little winery with chickens roaming around. Great selection of honey for those who love a bit of sweetness.
A. N.
Got here after driving around the area and was enticed by how gorgeous the place looked, got in and I ordered the supposed falafel that was basically 4 baby carrots for $14 and also got the Barnyard beetroot cappeletti. The portion was TINY for the price but it tasted exquisite. Was really disappointed with the falafel tho, it was 100% NOT a falafel and also the portion size of the main but oh wells, at least it tasted good, I guess..
K. L.
Really nice place to visit. Good food, great service, and beautiful surroundings. My only wish was that they sold their truffle butter :'(
S. B.
Great coffee, wine was good too. It is such a nice place to relax your mind.
M. E.
Sensational breakfast. Both meals were 10/10
Coogee was also great. Although could have been a tad warmer
C. K.
Great stop for a relaxing lunch. Food was fantastic, nice modern structure, set in a farm, with some querky art! Short walk to lavender shop too.
C. J.
Lunch stop whilst traversing the Margaret River Region. I had the lamb pasta, tasted good, but very light on the lamb and quite expensive for that reason. Asked for soft drinks , "no, only wine". Did manage to get lemonade which was only bought as a mixer but I guess it's a start?
Venue is lovely, bunch of statues and kids playground, plus free roaming chickens.
B. G.
Had a fantastic lunch here where the pasta special really hit the spot. The staff are so friendly and efficient. Well worth a visit.
R. M.
Beautiful restaurant and location in Yallingup. Barnyard is a a short drive from Canal Rocks and is well worth stopping in for lunch. There is a playground for children located just behind the restaurant.
Can purchase hand made pasta, lollipops, honey, and wine from inside the restaurant.
The owners are lovely people too, and are more than happy to give suggestions for local activities.
T. A.
It was beautiful to sit on the verandah near the grape vines and enjoying a delicious brekky.
Staff are wonderful and food was great (really great poached eggs!)
Definitely book as it gets busy here!
M.
Enjoyed an lovely breakfast with friends. Wife had the mushrooms and I had the beef.
Yum!
Will go back when the opportunity arises to continue to try the whole menu.
W. C.
Outstanding local gem with great food, wonderful owner and staff. Always an outright pleasure. Pity they can’t choose their guests
R. A.
Had terrific lunch there, the pasta was great. We did wine tasting before lunch, and chose a bottle to have with our food. Great playground, outdoor stuff, and chickens roaming for kids. We also bought some honey! Great spot, recommended!
A. C.
Stopped in here for afternoon tea. Had the tea, coffee, and homemade honey, carrot cake and icecream. All beautiful! Will be stopping through here again to try more of the lunch menu and wines!
G. M.
Exceptional service, very friendly staff. The char grilled prawns are absolutely delicious and the Shiraz is one of the best 🍷🍷a bit pricey but worth it.
C.
Nice enough food but very limited choices on their "holiday season" menu, and seems no breakfasts any more (we did enjoy those way back when).
Also quite pricey for the portion size and the average quality, so value for money isn't great.
Not likely to return unless things improve.
M.
Barnyard always delivers. We've been here every trip down south and they never disappoint. The pasta dishes are always on point, the bread is wonderful and the beer is 👌 we always look forward to going back! Dog-friendly too!
Y. L. Z. (.
Delightful food, appreciate the renewable energy on the building and the paddock to plate philosophy
E. Y.
Love the food here and the atmosphere is lovely! Good selection of nice honey too!
M. V.
An amazing outdoor setting accompanied with great food and wine. Nice spot for those with children too. A very European vibe which is always nice - think the owners are from Northern Europe themselves.
T. L. G.
If you're looking for upper class winery style wine and dine this is the spot. The atmosphere is barn / casual but it is all class. You have to order the home made pasta if you come here and it's a winery so any wine is going to be good from this place. Also you should book or join the que of the many people walking back to their car without a table !
Minus one star (on a more personal point, shame to make it impact the venue) but the staff tried to hustle us out before we ordered dessert noting that 'we were late' to our table for our lunch. We didn't have the heart to argue, and its not very nice to be in the middle of a nice moment and feeling like an unwanted guest - admittedly we were 15 mins late but waited over 25 minutes to order our mains, and similar again for dessert, maybe being quicker to take our orders may have been a more passive way to get us to move along? Overall we enjoyed our time but it did sour the ending experience (though the cakes were amazing)!
N. a. B. R.
We had the lamb. Very tasty. Asked for more sauce and given a lovely Ju. Recommended. Plus the best latte!
J. P.
Nice food, conducive environment & friendly staff. Highly recommended!
S. G.
Absolutely amazing food under the guidance of chef Iain Robertson, wonderful service from a great team of girls and a bright, vibrant, fun setting. We couldn't have asked for a better afternoon. This is a truly special place to visit in the Yallingup area.
M. J.
Current menu attached as of April 19.
L. J.
Absolutely fantastic. Everyone enjoyed the meal. I had the pork and scallop - amazing. Chardy was delicious. Service very good. Ill be back.
J. W.
A super winery and restaurant. Lovely pasta dishes with different and interesting ingredients. Fresh salads beautifully dressed. Very nice wine. Friendly and efficient service and all at a very fair price considering the all round quality.
c. b.
We arrived for a very early breakfast without a reservation. Food was excellent, as was the coffee. The service is ok. Would have been 5 star rating, but service not quite there. All of the tables we would have preferred to sit at were reserved (no one arrived to use them while we were there) so we ended up in a thoroughfare with staff regularly brushing past. Would go back, but next time would make a reservation for a better table.
S. H.
Food was amazing!! Love the setting and open kitchen and seeing everything being made fresh to order. The staff are friendly and helpful, always smiling. They were busy but seated us right away and the food was prompt and delicious. Will definitely be back.
M. L.
Just finished lunch at Barnyard 1978. Had the Artichoke and Ravioli and the Squid Ink pasta. I have never had better pasta in my life. All made on site by a chef that clearly knows what he's doing. The staff here are so wonderful as well. 10/10 will eat here again!
S. T.
Nice decor and good service but food was really pricey for what you get. The pricing was up there with some of the awesome restaurants around but quality was not even close. There are much better options around.
A. W.
A relaxed dining experience. Will come by here again if I ever drive down to Margaret River.
T. F.
So the food was great. But the service and attention to detail was lacking. We ordered a child's menu mac'n'cheese. When the plates arrived we were warned the child's plate was very hot. Thanks for the warning, but don't you think, if it's a kids meal, the dish it is served in should be kid-safe and not so hot it will burn you if touched. The woman running the place was very inflexible with us as well as with other people dining. Shame, because the food was delicious.
N. D.
Delicious food in a beautiful vineyard setting. The waitstaff were attentive and prompt. Food came out fast but we did not feel rushed at all. Would definitely visit again.
R. C.
The best restaurant I have visited in WA. Amazing customer service with the loveliest staff and hands-down the most delicious food. The owners were extremely welcoming and nice. Good atmosphere. Beautiful outdoor area where kids can play. Amazing scenery. Do not have any better words to describe this place other than just excellent. Thank you!
J. J.
Great service, great food and beautiful setting.
Breakfast/brunch mimosas are a must👍
My daughter loved the chooks, ducks and the playground.
Beautiful morning all round!

Ate here on the Monday of the recent long weekend before returning to Perth. The indoor tables were all reserved despite many appearing available so we were seated outside on the verandah that chilly winter morn. Luckily it wasn't busy at that time so we picked a nice spot under a gas heater and with our winter woollies we were comfortable. Foot traffic built up quiclky around us soon after and we observed people coming and going just as quickly because they couldn't be seated (?). The parking lot filled up fast too. The coffee was good. The food was fresh & delicious - quality produce and their choice of bacon was amazing. The use of earthenware lends a lovely country touch. I would've given 4 stars if not for the bill shock - approx. $65 for 2 for breakfast NB: this did include a public holiday surcharge. Whilst we are not cheap, it was pricey. We go out for breakfast regularly and admit there's a lot of expensive mediocre breakfasts in WA that we are all too often subjected to which become the baseline of our norm - so it is a pity we must then justify (and accept) an exhorbitantly priced breakfast because it's as it should be...good. Please don't get me wrong - this place is great. Reserve your table and know that the food, coffee, location and nice touches will not dissapoint in making up for a high bill at the end of it.

Took my missus on a romantic weekend down to Margaret River and honestly it was one of the best places we have been to in WA. Classy, cheerful and friendly staff, food was great, exceptional atmosphere, they have all kind of cool thingies to buy, got few gifts and they also make their own wine. We loved it. Highly recommended...
D. M.
Great menu! The pasta dishes are divine! Matched with one of their exquisite wines? Heaven!
A nice friendly atmosphere too!
R. D.
Stunning venue, sumptuous cuisine and fantastic service. We loved everything about it!
N. B.
Absolutely loved this place! Food was unreal, wine great at a reasonable price, and perfect atmosphere for all. Happy kids at the playground with chickens roaming too! 5 stars :)
W.
Always great. Recently updated menu is excellent. We had breakfast here yesterday and lunch today. Chia Pudding and sautéed mushrooms for breakfast. Octopus and Chorizo, pesto Gnocchi and Artichoke Ravioli for lunch. With the 2007 Cab Sav at only $10 a glass. Excellent.
L. B.
Found this place while holidaying in WA. Great relaxed atmosphere. Best pasta dishes we’ve had in a long time. Thumbs up from parents and kids. Highly recommended!
M. I.
Delicious breakfast and absolutely stunning wine
R. L.
Delicious food. Friendly service and great location.
A. C.
The pasta was very good. Nice texture and the sauce is not overpowering. Bought some dried pasta and sayce to cook at home as well. Was just as good as having it there.
U. S.
Attentive, nice staff, that makes you feel very comfortable. Great food, great wine - Cabernet sauvignon - loved it.
And my favorite eggplant kasundi! Next time going Barnyard bruschetta, it did look mouthwatering in my friend's plate.
Thank you guys!
B. M.
Disappointed that I couldn't buy a tasting plate of the various types of honey.
C. V.
Recommended visit before or after the beach! Super friendly and helpful staff, nice ambiance, good quality food and excellent wine. For avocado lovers, the avo crush its a must try!! Also tried the Sauvignon Blanc and absolutely loved it! Would stop by this place every weekend if I lived in Australia :)
B. R.
This was our favourite breakfast down South. Do yourself a favour and try to duck waffles, they’re to die for! The service was warm and the coffee was delicious.

Couldn't fault Barnyard1978. Amazing food 10/10 all the way around. Incredible service aswell. Wine was great, atmosphere perfect. Definitely worth stopping in. Thanks for a great experience.
A. D.
How do I order wines from this winery???? We were there recently and enjoyed a delicious meal, beautiful Cab Sav Merlot Malbec and a jar of honey BUT ...... I can't find anywhere on their website how I would go about ordering wine. I live in Sydney.
R. D.
Stopped by for lunch. The backdrop is awesome and wine was really nice. Fresh pasta and great take home products also. Highly recommend.
G. W.
Really tasty pasta dishes, prompt service and delicious desserts ! The layout and design is modern and interesting with kids playground out the back
E. M.
Highly recommend this great spot. We had breakfast, everyone was really happy with the food and coffee. Highlight was the own brand Mimosa.

Thank you very much to Raminta & Egidijus for their beautiful hospitality and fabulous food. I couldn't have asked for a more wonderful wine and food experience. A must on your list when visiting the Yallingup area!
A. U.
Lovely place, lovely people, amazing food. I really liked the funky music that they were playing it sets "stand up and do something cool today mood".
L. J.
+ Great venue location with natural lighting, surrounded by nature
+ Great for gifts and tasting
+ Friends thoroughly enjoyed their dishes, especially the duck and salmon
- I did not enjoy the Kasundi egg scramble unfortunately
- GF bread not to my liking
- Not open for dinner
Overall, I would recommend and revisit to try other options on their menu.
K. G.

Good breakkie and excellent coffee. The staff is very friendly. Enjoyed their homemade sauces and ended up buying some too 😊
A. R.
Pleasantly surprised. Very welcoming, even when we brought our dog. Delicious pasta
H. T.
The establishment was originally listed as permanently which I reactivated as live. According to their website it's only temporary closed for annual break and maintenance from 26th July till 6th Sept.
C. G.
Thanks for the great coffee in particularly nice cups and the company friendly service. We wanted local honey and we're spoiled for choice.

(Translated) A cozy restaurant surrounded by beautiful vineyards. This is a shop you should definitely stop by when you come to Margaret River. The atmosphere and service, the taste of the food, the liquor such as wine and beer, the price, everything is perfect.
Wine is cheap and delicious, and craft beer is also delicious. The food is delicious and has a good taste. Homemade pasta is especially popular.
Wine and pasta are sold at the cellar door inside the shop, so it is also recommended as a place to buy souvenirs.
There is also a small playground on the spacious grounds, which is good for families with children.
