Best Mexican food in WA and my new favourite restaurant in the area! The food was fantastic, but the mole icecream is where the chef really shows off their creativity. The juxtaposition of the spices and the cream creates a flavour explosion in my mouth of pure joy. I haven't had something so innovative in food for ages. The tacos were fantastic too. I preferred the carne asada one but the fish taco was also good. The crickets taste like popcorn and are fun to eat taco style with an order of tortillas and the green chile salsa. The beef Mogo Mogo balls were surprising full of shredded beef and the dipping sauce went great with it. The tortillas tasted just like the tortillerias from Mexico They're really doing great things at this place!

Went for dinner. We were running late and they were happy to move our booking to an hour later. Ordered birria tacos, pork carnitos and steak tacos. The birria is amazing. The chicaron in the pork tacos adds an amazing texture to the soft shell tacos. Did I mention u can order crickets. Honestly they taste like chips if u ignore that they are bugs. Ordered a mixed platter to share. There is chorizo, rump steak, chicken, pork belly. There is a choice of protein for everyone. Unfortunately the rump was medium well rather than medium rare. A bit on the tougher side.

Amazing Mexican food! The flavors are really authentic, we had the empanadas and tacos and they took me back home! The portions were a good size, perfect for sharing. Had a wonderful experience at El Publico. One of the best Mexican restaurants in Perth for sure. The food is served with incredible speed, service is good - and most importantly the food tastes delicious as well. We had a variety of dishes from tacos through to ceviche and they were all packed with unique flavours. If you want a drink then they have a solid assortment of drinks on offer. Great atmosphere - will definitely visit here again!

El Publico has a very comfortable yet uplifting vibe inside. It is very well laid out for the delicious tapas style foods. The tables are big so you can fit as much of their delicious menu as possible. The Birriadilla is absolutely sensational. Leaves a taste of more.... The fish taco. Nice. The quesadilla were o.k and the bobo bobo balls were really flavoursome. We also had a few cocktails and the one I got had chilli in it. What a winner.....

Menu was a bit disappointing in terms of choices. Service only average, they brought the mains along with the starters. Took them back to kitchen presumably to keep them warm and then brought them out again half way through eating the starters and they were cold - hopeless! Wouldn't rush back.

We were a group of 9 with 3 kids and came here for dinner. It is on busy Beaufort Street opposite the Queens Hotel but conveniently located near a public carpark. Interior is quite open and there are 2 levels. If you are seated on the lower level close to the bar it can get a bit busy with more people traffic than in the upper levels. Music a bit on the loud side so conversation can be hampered. Service was very good with attentive helpful and informative waitpersons. Food was also very good and the variety meant that even fussy eaters could find sonething appealing. We ordered different tacos and salads all of which were flavoursome and authentic. Standouts were the roast pork and fish tacos the meatballs and a spicy potato dish. Almost all dishes had verying degrees of heat and spice so if you are bringing kids make sure you ask when ordering. Alcohol prices on the high side. Its a place more conducive for younger adults than for seniors and being a senior myself I found it an interesting venue with good food but dont think i will return in a hurry hence the 4 stars rather than 5

This fantastic Mexican bar & cantina has never failed in my opinion. Great range of tequila, tequila cocktails, and other drinks. The food is superb, but don't come here unless you are looking for proper Mexican food that isn't of the Old El Paso cheese laden "Tex Mex" variety. Have tried a number of items off the.menu and haven't been disappointed once. Best bang for your buck is the $39 Feed Me option, which is always delicious and doesn't leave you hungry. Staff & service here are also on point, highly recommend visiting el Publico if you are in the Highgate hood 👌

Got recommend this place for dinner by a work colleague. Can honestly say it did not disappoint. We had the set menu plus the Mogo Mogo and it was DELICIOUS! Every course that came out was wildly different to the last and full of flavour and Colors. We got seated by a Gent called Matt and he was an absolute treat. Gave excellent recommendations on the food and wine. He also made us laugh with some great banter. The toilets tho outside aren't a far walk and very well kept. I would recommend this place to friends and family and look forward to returning.

Food here was amazing. Meat lovers - try their carbon del mercado, there was roast pork, beef slices, chorizos and chicken. You basically make your own tacos. Everything was cooked to perfection. As for dessert, we had pan de elote or corn ice cream. I'd recommend not to share your dessert!! Get one each and try everything on their menu. Staff were super friendly even though the place was pretty busy. It would be wise to make a booking but they can try and accomodate walk-ins. Will surely come back for more soon.

Yummo! Best Mexican I’ve had in Australia. Definitely has a bit of a modern presentation, but the closest to Mexican flavours I’ve had. Had fish taco, chicken empanada, street corn & chips n dips. All had so much flavour, much more than the typical Mexican food you can get in Aus. Quite cheap! My husband and I had four cocktails total and left stuffed for barely over $100. Friendly, attentive staff as well. Dude on the bar offered to make us a custom cocktail he had come up with. Will be returning

I’ve been here a few times now and it’s definitely the best Mexican I’ve had in Perth hands down. The food is always amazing and authentic, and you never have to wait too long for it. The staff are also very friendly and attentive, which makes the dining experience even better. They also have an extensive range of tequilas and a decent cocktail menu. Only our second visit here, this time with friends. It was busy (popular), but the service was pretty quick. Great atmosphere and staff.. but the highlight was the food. It tastes and feels more authentic than the other "Mexican" Style restaurants. Really love the Street corn and the pork tacos. The bar tender was a magician with the drinks too! All round great experience! Looking forward to this again soon!

Fantastic portion sizes and flavours in this local casual Mexican bar. Staff are relaxed and friendly. I would suggest getting the mogo mogo beef and banana balls which were delicious. Free sparkling water is a nice touch as some of the dishes pack a chili punch. The upstairs booths are comfy. My only concern is the lack of vegetable/salad options on the menu. There's a set deal for $39 but we found that it is better value to order off the regular menu.

Dined in this weekend and had the best experience we've had in Perth in quite a while. We had the tamales, which were on special for the weekend and it was like nothing we've ever tasted before. Didn't have a reservation but they managed to squeeze us in for a quick feed. Couldn't fault the service, margaritas and guacamole on the table in minutes. What an amazing place! The servers are so friendly and helpful. My server offered great recommendations about the cocktails and food menu. Get the Mai Tai, you won’t regret it! I haven’t been to a great Mexican restaurant for a long while and booked El Publico for a dinner with friends. We choose the “Feed me” menu which was absolutely bang on. Generous helpings of delicious wonderful food. The mixed grill is highly recommended and is on both menus. Our server who was well informed of various mezcals and drinks offered. Nice venue on the Beaufort strip. It won’t be so long next time.

Have been here once before and enjoyed it. Second time was not as good. Had entrees as guacamole, beef quesadilla & tacos dorados. All good, quesadilla was smaller portions than expected but good flavours. Shared mixed grill for mains but looking through old reviews our didn't look anything like the photos. Meat-heavy which was good but went downhill from there. Very little rice, cold bean paste and 'seasonal veg' which was onion and jalapeno. When we asked about the veg we got a salad on the house which was delicious! Just didn't feel the mixed grill was good value at $45 and no actual vegetables (sorry onion). Was told the menu was gluten free but unfortunately had the bloating and discomfort that comes from wheat/gluten product and not sure where this could have been from based on what we ordered. A shame as it could have been amazing.

I would definitely recommend el público to any vegans and people with a gluten intolerance. I've found there are many options on the menu for me, the mushroom taco and cauliflower taco are fantastic, just ask to make them vegan. Guacamole and beans make it very satisfying. Corn tortillas are perfect! The manager and staff are very attentive, and I had great service from Carlos. The restaurant is in a great location. Thank you everyone I will for sure continue to enjoy your food and wonderful service time and time again!

I’ve have been following these guys since La Vida Urbana was opened until now at El Publico and I must say this restaurant leaves me speechless every time. To start with the Guacamole is the perfect entree plus the famous Mogo Balls with two Mezcal Mules. The mushroom/beef quesadillas are a must. Tacos were fresh and flavourful, without being to spicy. Fish, Asada and Birriadillas my favourites. We ended up having the Mixed Grill, a signature dish from the restaurant. And not to mention the service...Friendly wait staff.

Literally my favourite restaurant! The most amazing chef and staff ever! I absolutely love the waitress with dark hair and an accent sorry I don’t know her name but honestly love her, always makes you feel welcome and explains the menu so well! So sad the menu has changed because the empanadas we’re to die for !!! New Irish waitress with red hair was extremely rude and was a bit of vibe kill. But the rest of the staff is like a big family that just make you feel so welcome ❤️❤️

2.5 stars. A lot of potential to be a decent Mexican restaurant. However, menu was very limited. Basically only small tacos. They were very expensive for small portion sizes. This may be some people's idea of a Mexican feast. But I'm afraid it was not ours. We regularly eat at upmarket restaurants but this was lacking and I was disappointed. Great cocktails. An easy fix would be to slightly increase portion sizes and menu diversity. Thanks for having us. Sorry for the harsh review. I thought I should let other patrons know

Look, The food is here is really delicious and good value for money. But this is not safe for coeliacs whatsoever. Had extreme stomach pains, bloating etc etc if ur gluten free you would know. I was told it’s a 100% gluten free menu. Well it’s not, whether it’s the spices or the pots pans etc not being cleaned from gluten I can’t tell you, but what I can tell you is that there is cross contamination and if you’re a coeliac you shouldn’t eat here. But if you’re not go for it the food tastes great!

Congratulations. You put pink stuff on my taco. I don't know what, but theres something about this place that makes it feel as if its trying to be something that it's not. Like some of the dishes had clunky plastic plates and the serving sizes are minimal. Wouldn't go here if you're trying to get some serious bang for your buck, $13 will get you a sad dob of guacamole and a bunch of corn chips. But other than that the food was quite extravagant... maybe a bit too much? Expect lots of coriander and weird ingredients in you quesadillas.

Unbelievable. My favourite 'sit down' bar. They split bill, have amazing staff who answer any and all questions. They are just as excited about the different tequilas as the consumer and will give you an insight to the flavour as they serve. Often have more than one waiter to bring all the food/drink at once. Reasonably priced, love to hit them up with a group of friends on a night out.

Fabulous cuisine, not at all your standard Tex-Mex fare. Warning, vegetarians stop reading now. Best meats outside of a Texan steakhouse. And an interesting selection of Mexican beers too. Fun place, great staff. A bit pricey, but for an occasional splurge, it's worth it.

A new fresh taste experience far different than Zambero or Salsa (creative and noticeably better tasting my opinion if your not a meat lover). Serving portion is on the lean side but reasonably priced considering the quality is A1 & presentation is on the posh side. Plenty of cocktails at the bar. Not far from other restaurants within walking distance should seating become hectic.

Tasty mexican food. We got the set menu. I was expecting more meat in the taco serving dish as there was only enough for 1 small piece each of each meat (there was pork, chicken, steak & chorizo, all really yummy, I needed more!) and I was sad dessert was peanut butter paletas as I can't eat peanut 😢 Everyone else enjoyed theirs though. The guacamole was good and I loved the salsa. The salad was really yummy too.

I lived in Mexico and I have to say that this is the only place in Australia where I've tried real mexican food is here. Starting with the michelada, the totopos and all the sauces. Great selection of mezcal. The only negative thing is the excessive price for one single taco. Don't get me wrong, they're yummy but tacos are overpriced, just a couple of dollars down would make it reasonable (actual price of a single small taco is 8$).

If you get to chat to the manager, be prepared to have you mind blown by his knowledge of Tequila. The staff are professional and friendly. I've been multiple times and really cant fault them, just make sure you book, as the word is out and Friday and Saturday is always full! Gracias el Publico!

I have heard it is very busy and you need a booking but my partner and I managed to jag a table around 6pm on a Wednesday evening in their "standing/bar" area. The waiter was incredibly knowledgeable about the food and drinks, giving us information about where the spirits were made and how it affects their flavour. The food was very tasty! I let them know before hand and the server was fantastic in letting us know what menu items were able to be veganised (which was a decent amount), and the veganised items often had substitutions for what had to be taken out eg. a white bean paste in replace of the cheese on the pizza!
