Comments of Ash St. Cellar

Good service. Food was tasty. Although they should increase the portion size as they're quite small for the price they charged. Would be getting more food at the Felix opposite in comparison.
D. B.
Nice atmosphere, food was pretty good, friendly service. Wouldn't recommend Chefs choice for $70pp... not a great mix and not saving anything vs picking separately.

Came for a light lunch, this restaurant is part of the ivy precinct. Staff are attentive and friendly. Love the sharing plate style menu. Food was tasty!

Part of the Hemmes empire and located in the Ivy complex on George St just opposite Wynyard station, this restaurant offers casual dining in a largely outdoors location. Unfortunately it was pouring rain the day I was here which detracted from the ambience a little however we stayed dry and the food made up for it. We had the Chef’s Selection tasting menu, with 8 courses of tapas-style Spanish food all of which was tasty and filling and accomodating a gluten-free diner was no problem. They have an extensive wine cellar as well as beer and spirits. Definitely worth going here.

Great vibes and super attentive staff. Lots of cleaning and wiping constantly (good job Merivale!) It is more on the expensive side but food was very flavourful and delicious. Good sharing tapas. Baked Camembert, lamb and chocolate torte were my favs
F. L.
Crowded tiny restaurant with small tables for tiny groups. Tasty food, small servings. Wine list top notch. Will come again.

European fusion dishes, a huge selection of wines and the atmosphere is like we’re in a little French town. Great service from Lauren and everyone there.
A.
Great wine list and service is outstanding! We asked for a bigger wine list from Felix next door and the staff were very accommodating. Will be coming back again 😁
Y.
Great atmosphere, especially i love apero time at the terrace seat with good live music.

One word: sublime! ⭐️🍷🙌🏻
The ambience of this place is incredible and I loved how attentive and knowledgeable of wine the charming waitress was who served us.
When the food came out, we were all impressed by the creativity and the twist to traditional tapas. And they support one of my favourite bakeries in Sydney, #Brickfields, by offering their bread with wonderfully marinated olives. My favourites were the tricolour baby carrots and the fig salad.
And as people are usually the most reliable signifier for the quality of food, look at our smiles! 😀

Really nice and a great spot to people watch from.

A little expensive but every dish here is a taste sensation. Innovative flavours, great for vegetarian options and a comprehensive menu. Also their big/small glass of wine system is great if you're there for an office lunch! Delicious food and excellent service!

“strategy” “process” “client” “bottom line” “product” - the top words spoken at this cafe.
Oh, and if your daywear consists of a blue suit with brown shoes and colourful socks you’ll feel right at home here.
If you’re like us (colours, casual, sneakers) you’ll feel like a naughty teenager wagging school sipping a latte with four sugars.
Aside from that, the service is brilliant, coffee and food delicious. We had the granola and the tomatoes with olive tapenade and haloumi (soooo yum!).
And that’s the “bottom line”.
M. C.
They got very nice bar food. Wagyu skirt steak and duck liver pate are the best
S. W.
Lovely out of the way location for breakfast and yummy breaky options. I can recommend the pancake! Good coffee too.
P. B.
Had casual light lunch there today and again this cafe is consistently good, and even better on those hotter days as you are in the shade or inside has fans as well. Excellent tapas, good decor, atmosphere and the staff work hard for you, if a bit slow at the end with coffees. But I'll return.
E. P.
Excellent staff, great coffee, perfect coffee. Lovely food.
S. S.
Absolutely awesome wine selection and fantastic food.
D. H.
Nice little stop for lunch or dinner. Sharing plates and a great wine selection. Their house red is beautiful. Stand out dishes include the wagu, school prawns, empanadas and truffle prosciutto sandwich. The pate was unfortunately over cooked and the cod entree was bland. Chairs are also uncomfortable but can be over looked as it's a nice place overall
M. S.
Very tasty food. Service is a bit slow though
R. M.
Fantastic place for a romantic night out. The food is fabulous, each small 'tapas-style' dish serving as a great sharing plate for a table of 2. The wine list (as is obvious by the 'cellar' in the name) is extensive and wonderful. The wait staff are friendly, and very knowledgeable about the food, and particularly the wine list. Be prepared for a relaxed night, as the service moves at a leisurly pace, which can be percieved as some as slow, but really they're just trying not to rush you - Which I personally appreciate.
A little pricey, but still well worth it.
J. K.
Have been to this tapas bar a number of times and always had tasty food and enjoyable night....however tonight they have 2 wait staff trying to serve a pretty full restaurant....entres came out quickly and very tasty and fresh....however no idea who is in kitchen but it's now been 1hr 20min and still waiting for our main food to arrive....very frustrating for a work week...:((
M. M.
We arrived late at 10:30pm and were met by a lovely hostess. After a quick beer we were tucking into great tapas and nice carafe of rosé wine. Very enjoyable...
S. P.
Ash Street cellars is well worth it... the food is fantastic, and the wine list even better. While it is a little pricey, the tapas style food is beautifully and rustically prepared, not to mention delicious! Just at Angel Place (off George street) so it's super close to public transport - (bus stop and wynyard train station, and just a little walk to town hall train station - which means you don't have to spend any money on a cab). Service is fantastic, and very romantic environment.

Having a good glass of wine on a week night after work is the best. Feeling like being in Paris..
S. M.
This is a great place to have a grown up drink before dinner in the city. The vibe is European wine bar- fun and chatty but still all about the drinks.
It's great to be able to get the buzz from the ivy without having to mix it with the masses!
L. T.
Great extensive list of wines here. Staff are knowledgeable and friendly, 5 stars on service. The 3 cheeses are also delish.
M. L.
Very chic and urbane bar - Merivale has done a great job modernising an old alley and making it very easy to while away the afternoon.
Drinks are at a slight premium, didn't have the food but it looked amazing.
C. H.
This is a pretty lacklustre Merivale joint. The food was fine. The steak was cold and the waiter seemed harried despite only having 3 tables to service. It's in a good location but without the bustle of the CBD work crowd, it's a weird and strangely alienating experience eating al fresco in the lane way at night.
S. G.
The food is good but pricey and the wine list is extensive but even more expensive. The prawns cooked in garlic and chilli were yummy but were limited in choice so we didn't immediately blow budget.
T. N.
Had a great time. We had a waitress named Devi, and she was absolutely great!! Definitely will be back again!!
Z.
Ash Street Cellar is a great spot for a glass of wine and a couple of share plates.
Try and grab an outdoor table on Ash Street for a prime people watching position.
Unfortunately not open on weekends...hopefully the opening of light rail and new apartments and hotels in the central city will result in this!
J. M.
Great tasting plate even during COVID-19! Good selection of wine too!
J. B.
Don't be too put off by the fact that this is part of the Ivy - the food and drink are spectacular. Great range of seafood and amazing Australian and continental wine list.
S. D.
Service a bit slow and quite expensive. Nice setting through on a balmy evening as you sit out in an alley way. Feels very European!
P. B.
Really busy and stopped in for a drink, staff were really friendly and particularly helpful in advising where we could go next even though they were really busy. Would recommend
T. E.
Beautiful atmosphere. Waiting staff exemplary and very friendly. Roman went above and beyond for excellent service. Indeed a lovely enjoyable experience!
R. C.
Truly a memorable experience. Great staff. Welcome with a smile.
M. d. R.
Love the vibe in this place and the coffee and pastries are pretty good too. A really nice place for a coffee meeting in the city
H. S.
Great wine list and friendly service. Outside seating has a nice European feel about it.
O. S.
My favourite casual wine venue. Best wine list for Pinot drinkers. Outside seats are nice.
J. H.
Great selections of wines with good small plates of food. Great place to sit outside and have a small bite and a nice glass of wine
L. C.
Wine and food are great. Has a very euro feel to it. I probably don’t recommend in a rainy day
M.
Wine, light eats and friendly staff in a relaxed atmosphere and away from the masses.

Z. P.
Fantastic wine list, very extensive, great atmosphere and service!

We had lunch with a friend and selected 4 dishes to share, all have been very good but I was disappointed to see on the receipt a surcharge for credit card but I paid cash!

(Translated) Beautiful neighborhood full of nightlife, it is clear that Australians like to have fun and drink ... But eating is not a business for them, expensive and not exceptional food. $ 52 for salmon tartare with 4 croutons and an incomprehensible paté of I don't know what with blackberries on top and pickled gherkins next to it.

(Translated) one of the most popular and fashionable places in sydney. good music, mediocre cocktails and very high style .. it's not every day you can dance in a club and take a dip in the pool in the same place.
