Comments of Bangalay Dining

What a great restaurant. Accidentally stumbled upon this place and we are very glad we did.
Had the feast menu which was a great way to taste multiple different dishes. The $99 price was well worth the amount and quality of the food. Services was great and very good recommendations for wines that match the dishes.
If you're in the area I recommend try Bangalay!

Bangalay Dining in Shoalhaven Heads is a NSW South Coast standout, delivering solid contemporary Australian cooking with flashes of brilliance. Following the fine-diner model set down by restaurants like the (now defunct) Silvereye and Biota, their tasting menu ($120) begins with a flurry of snacks. Wafer thin crocodile smoked in paperbark is presented under green ants on house-made wattleseed lavosh, and Murray cod is stuffed into a nasturtium flower with bright tarama. They both set the scene for a truly Australian experience.
The local area is celebrated with Lake Illawarra bully mullet being lightly torched and served on an oyster emulsion with foraged turkey rhubarb and smoked Maldon sea salt. My dining companion was chuffed to sit in a fancy restaurant eating something he used to catch in a trap to use as a bait fish, from a fairly flat and uninspiring lake I’ve never seen listed on a restaurant menu. We washed it down with the 2019 Stargazer Chardonnay ($105) that has good concentration, an elegant nose, and a maritime salty oyster shell lick that suited the fish.
Emu tartar, dressed with saltbush and an over-cooked egg, wanted for a lick of sweetness to balance all the salt. Balmain bug had a beautiful translucent centre against a silky custard made from shell stock, fingerlime and a delicate sheet of compressed rockmelon. Despite being very charred on the exterior, the lamb rump had too much unrendered fat in the interior for my liking, making it a bit bland and chewy against smoked yoghurt and onion soubise. Vegetables were universally excellent, from blackened zucchini with preserved lemon peel, to wonderful fresh pea shoots and leaves.
Chef Simon Evans forages for the elderflowers he uses in his harmonious palate cleanser, where Geraldton wax flowers bead over a pear broth garnished with elderflower cream. It’s followed by a peach poached in agave syrup and white balsamic with thick creme fraiche that eats like being kissed on the head before you toddle back to your attached eco-villa to sleep like a baby. Well worth the trip!

Bangalay Dining is it's own thing. Excellent use of local and native products, particularly flora. With the beach nearby for an afternoon beforehand or a walk afterwards, it's a unique spot that isn't comparable to anything nearby. Well worth the visit. Great service, great menu (with regular additions/changes/specials). We first went for Christmas lunch 2020, and Bangalay had their own excellent take on a Christmas lunch.

Overall the dining experience was ok. The bread was delicious and soft. The kangaroo carpaccio itself was nice, but the greens on top had a distinct flavour that did not leave a pleasant taste in your mouth. The beet salad was too sour and overpowering and the fish was just normal, nothing special, no unique flavours. The steak was quite gummy and chewy, and the potato slightly too salty. The service was decent though.

Bangalay dinning is a must do when you visiting Shoalhaven Heads! It has good vibe and greater food and wine selection! Even though we are not staying in the Villas, we could still enjoy the Happy Hour menu after walking on the beach, and we could try the Tasting Menu. My wife and I had great experience dinning in at the 15th of Dec 2021. The whole experience was great, the Tasting Menu is delicious, the matching wines are great selection, the staffs were super nice and kind, given us introduction to each dish and wine for each course, we really loved the dinning experience here! We will definitely come back next time we visiting Shoalhaven Heads.

We booked for a birthday and enjoyed the food for lunch today. The comment that I have is that if you are charging as much as you do for the food and wine, then the level of service needs to be lifted. If I am paying over $150 per head I would expect that empty wine glasses are removed from the table, meals are not cleared while other are still eating, wine glasses might be able to be topped up, the wine ordered for mains might come out prior to the mains coming out. I see that this level of service is basic attention to detail and would make the food not just the star of the show , but bring the whole dinning experience together. Somewhat disappointed that a venue like this cannot get the basics of service together.

Dined here with a party of four and our dog. We all had a tasting menu (standard and vegetarian), which was excellent. They were able to accommodate my many food intolerances with some notice, which was really fantastic. Wine parings were apparently very good too. Location is lovely, service was very friendly. Toilet is inside and required a mask, which they were happy to provide to the member of our party who forgot to bring one.
Tasting menu is 11 dishes, consisting of some snacks/appetisers, entrées, a couple of dishes that were close to main size, a patate cleanser and dessert. It was plenty of food even for the bottomless pits that are the two men I was dining with.
The downsides: we had a 6pm seating and didn’t finish until 10:15pm, which is very very slow even by tasting menu standards. Conversely, no opportunity to feel full… As they were constructing a pergola, the only light after 8pm was tealights on the tables, so we couldn’t see what we were eating. It also got very cold — luckily they provided warm blankets when we asked. And the dessert was exceptionally disappointing after all the delicious dishes that preceded it (including the palate cleanser).
Would definitely visit again, would bring a warm coat, and cross my fingers that service is a little faster next time.

The NSW South Coast is renowned as a relaxed holiday destination - great beaches, bushland and lovely towns where you can get a good cheap meal. There are very, very few options anywhere from Wollongong to the Victorian border for those looking for something very special but Bangalay has now filled this gap superbly.
Be warned, this is not a meal for everyone, and we saw one teenage girl and her mum leave when they saw the limited and unusual choices, so, check the menu first before booking - this is not the place for fish and chip or a burger. What it is is an original, fascinating meal using native ingredients, many you will have never tried, and some you will never heard of.
We had the 6 course degustation and it was superb - every course was a taste delight. Kangaroo with bunya bunya saltbush was a great opener. The blue eye cod and the awesome Jerusalem artichoke the pick of the middle and the green ants with green mango interesting, if a little weird. But the absolute standout was the mandarin chamomile ice cream with red stringybark honey - one of the best dishes we've had anywhere.
Service was superb - caring, attentive, informed, and nothing was any trouble. Despite the menu being restricted by Covid, they were easily able to swap 2 dishes for a celiac who needed a gluten-free meal.
Wine was the one weak spot. Full marks for promoting the local wineries but the mostly local wines on offer in the matched tasting were not up to the standard of the meal. However there were some decent, if limited choices as bottles.
It's a great setting, especially if you're staying on the premises, and probably not the sort of meal you want every night, but for something special, and unique, this is a must on the south coast.

We had an amazing experience at Bangalay dining. Kelly, our waitress was so nice, from getting our son some paper and crayons to draw on, to explaining rhe menu and being very attentive without being too much. The food was amazing. Entree was a ruby red snapper with samphire, and for the mains we had morten bay bugs with local ingredients. Very well worth going for a great experience.

We had the most divine meal at Bangalay Dining. The menu is creative with Australian flavours like lily pilli and wattleseed weaved throughout it. We had the oysters which were fresh and the goats curd and beetroot to start. Then the barramundi and the slow cooked beef which was melt in the mouth. The dessert we shared was the strawberry parfait which was sooo delicous I ordered it again the next day from the room! The biscuit crumble and little dollops of jelly and fresh strawberry were so good I had to have it a second time!

Bangalay Dining is located in the beautiful and serene Bangalay Luxury Villas. It is open for breakfast where you can either dine in or take it away and sit on the beach across the road. The chia pudding was surprisingly delicious and a must-try. I also had dinner one night and enjoyed every dish; the potatoes and fish were exceptional.

Very delightful modern Australian restaurant in down south from Sydney. I was amused by the fact that they were using native Australian ingredients. The vibe of the restaurant was good, service was good and most importantly, food was good overall. I recommend Pork Jowl Steak.

We had the pleasure of staying at the stunning Bangalay Luxury Villas, only 2.5 hours from the Sydney CBD, in Shoalhaven Heads, which we found out about through Destination NSW. You can read about the accomodation through our blog here. In this relaxing seaside location, there is also an amazing on site restaurant, Bangalay Dining.
The concept of Bangalay Villas was to present the idea of a nostalgic beach holiday to customers, whilst also showcasing an area, rich plant life including eucalypt, banksia, lily pili and other Australian natives. The restaurant is in fitting with this. The restaurant feels comfortable and relaxed, situated on the beach side of the property. it opens for breakfast daily, as well as lunch and dinner on weekends. The space opens out onto the deck and even serves take away coffees to locals, who you’ll see aplenty, heading for their daily walk to the beach. The outdoor coffee counter means you can walk up and grab your coffee in a pet friendly environment. In terms of the menu, it has been composed with a focus on using sustainable and native ingredients harmonised with the area. A real paddock to plate concept. Chef Brent Strong, created this menu with that in the forefront of his mind. He has had a lot of experience in fine dining, working as a private chef on luxury yachts, but now, back in his home town, he is a local who was keen to represent the area by providing an approachable menu, using suppliers from the local area. You can read more about them here.
Bangalay Dining offers an ala Carte and tasting menu. We were dining as part of a group and had the 6 course tasting menu, which costs $85 per person. You can also pair your dinner with wines, which are selected from the local area and Cupitt’s in Milton. We began with a few cocktails, including a lemon Myrtle Pina Colada and a Lily Pili Rose with vodka, gin, rose syrup, lime and sofa. All their cocktails are made with native ingredients like wattleseed, lemon Myrtle and saltbush to name a few. The first course was a lightly cured Spanish Mackerel, an absolutely picture perfect dish, which looked like a little present, with the mackerel wrapped in thinly sliced fermented daikon, and flavoured with mandarin and had a nice smokiness of flavour coming from the prosciutto. Topped with beautiful flowers.
This was followed by a dish that at first sight looked like pasta, but was a creamy and delicious Sabago potato dish, made with Macadamia and native thyme. The potato was matched with Cupitt’s The Pointer An absolute highlight was the single Scampi flavoured with Lemon Myrtle, Leek and topped
with watercress. Presented sitting on a a dash of aioli and small shards.
One of our other favourite dishes was the Wagyu topside, a piece of local pasture raised top sided meat braised over night, served with an absolutely deliciously saucy meat, sitting beside nicely flavoured oyster mushrooms, eggplant and small pieces of crisp shredded potato.
After this rich dish and prior to desserts, we had a palate cleanser, a light refreshing dish, which was a quenelle of sheeps yoghurt gelato, served with oat granola and a sorrel granola. I’d also happily eat a bowl of the granola for breakfast too. This was followed up with a beautiful creamy wattleseed Ice cream, hazelnut mousse and caramelised white chocolate. The liquid nitrogen saw a fog coming from the plate. It’s deconstructed presentation looked like a modern work of art. We were lucky enough to get a special extra dessert on the night. An ice cream with granita. Chef Brett tells us that they use the crust of the sourdough for the ice cream and milk off their butter for the granita. .Whilst staying at Bangalay, we also enjoyed brunch. Whilst a number of their options sounded extremely appealing, we opted for the slow poached egg with mixed mushrooms, polenta, truffle pecorino and asparagus. The lovely truffle flavour shone through the ingredients.
We also enjoyed a chilled chia pudding with fresh and preserved seasonal fruit, local honey and a chia.

We were blown away by the tasting menu. Amazing service, superb cocktails, outstanding food - we will definitely be back. Goodness, the emu tartare is one of the best things I’ve ever put in my mouth.
E. C.
Excellent service, great food using local products. Can be really pricey if you are hungry.

We thoroughly enjoyed our experience here at Bangalay!
Our group selected to do the feast menu with the matching reserve wines. Both the food and the service was outstanding! A special mention to Ronnie, who looked after us so well on the night! He was very knowledgable and explained each of the courses in detail. I would highly recommend this restaurant and my friends and I will definitely be back!
C. H.
We recently enjoyed the feasting menu and can highly recommend especially if dining as a group. A very well considered menu with clever use of indigenous flavours and ingredients, and all beautifully cooked and presented. We had a vegetarian friend with us and had forgotten to advise before we arrived, she didn't want to make a fuss but the waitstaff were quick to notice and before we knew it the kitchen was sending out some seriously delicious alternatives, very much appreciated. Nice cocktails, extensive wine list and friendly staff, we will be back!
L. H.
Beautiful space, well set out. Lovely open tables with a pool and the beach next door. Cocktails and cheese boards looked again, the coffee we had was pretty good. Great for groups or couples alike! Very friendly staff.
A. W.
Relaxing atmosphere. They ran out of elderflower syrup so couldn't make our cocktail. Bit disappointed. Beef was quite greasy. Dessert was surprisingly special.
A. T.
The food and service is absolute perfection! We are guests at Bangalay Villas and we’ve been to Bangalay Dining daily during our stay for breakfast and dinner. We’ve been absolutely blown away by how accommodating all the staff have been with our little family of 3. Highlights are the pastries, cocktails, dinner and room service 😍 We highly recommend visiting and we will definitely be back!
J. F.
Nice coffee. Breakfast is good and staff friendly, location nice and venue modern. A bit on the pricey side.
T. G.
We had a superb anniversary lunch. The staff were lovely. The food was truly excellent and nicely paced with good portion sizes. Great wine list. We will definitely be back!
S.
I love the staff at Bangalay, they are attentive caring and make a damn good coffee! Every morning they great me with a smile and are ready to punch in my coffee order. I love that they have space outside for dogs as we come straight off the beach from our morning walk and can enjoy a warm up with them still present.
I always recommend Bangalay for a great coffee on the coast!
r. p.
The staff were friendly and positive and very knowledgeable about the various dishes on the menu. Questions were answered promptly without reference to the chef. When dishes were brought to the table each one was explained in detail. And the food in each course was deliciously stunning.
Very innovative with local indigenous ingredients.
The wine list was extensive with both local and imported bottles. The South Australian Fiano we chose worked perfectly with each course. The mouth watering deserts completed a wonderful night in foodies heaven.
Certainly worth many return visits. A real dining experience.

My husband & I were lucky enough to dine at Bangalay a few times during our recent stay there. The food and service was exceptional. We were always greeted with warm smiles from the team who made you feel welcome and are more than happy to answer any questions. It's lovely where a team knows the menu, is able to explain exactly what the dishes are and can offer suggestions as to wine parings. The food was faultless on every occasion we dined, it was absolutely delicious. It's hard to pick a favourite dish (though you can't go past the Bugs and the Lemon Tart). Bangalay have an a la carte menu and the Feast menu. I would suggest to have the Feast menu if it's your first visit, this way you are able to try large part of the menu which showcases the chefs talents and way they incorporate native ingredients into the dishes which we loved.
Without a doubt we will dine again at Bangalay soon.
J. B.
My husband and I had the Feast at Bangalay last Friday and each course was exquisite. The care and thought that brought about the incredible flavors was a credit to the chefs. The Murray cod with persimmon impressed my husband and he doesn't like cod!! All the staff were delightful. We had a very lovely Gilbert chardonnay from Orange - a great drop. Thank you for a wonderful evening.
J. &. S. B.
Been to bangalay a few times now for coffee and cakes etc. The coffee is always perfect, never burnt etc. we stopped last time to have a coffee and cake and for the price the portion size was lovely. It got busy for lunch just after we arrived so we were happy to be seating overlooking the pool. Just note: eftpos has a surcharge
R. S.
This restaurant was beautifully presented and has so much potential, however, it slightly missed the mark. The food was presented well, however was very average and very salty. The second drink I ordered was only 3/4 full which is disappointing when your paying $20. The mood was ruined when the chefs starter swearing loudly at each other for the entire restaurant to hear. The next morning we ordered breakfast from here as it was included in our stay. I asked to add cheese to my roll only to be told this was not possible. The service from the wait staff was amazing! Very friendly and attentive.

We enjoyed three evenings at Bangalay Dining and were delighted by the quality and flavours of the food. Fantastic use of native ingredients, a very well balanced "feast" menu and delicious desserts. I think we tried everything on the menu. The service was really good and the staff were very knowledgeable about the dishes. Great wine list. The restaurant was an unexpected bonus during our stay at the resort and we will be back.
P. S.
Great tasting food and service. BUT I had the duck breast and was disappointed with the serving size. 2 thin pieces of duck and very little else on the plate for $40 is overpriced.
My kids had the kids steak and chips but when it arrived it was beef pieces with a sauce (we asked for sauce on the side as it’s a kids meal) and with no chips but 4-6 small pieces of what looked like roast potatoes. Again at $24 for a kids meal it’s not value for money.
We decided to eat elsewhere on subsequent nights as
a result.
Staff were great.
C. M.
Outstanding. I went for my birthday and the service was flawless (very impressed by their level of attention), food was amazing (probably the best Balmain bugs I have eaten, perfectly cooked with a lovely char and the sauce was divine). Lovely atmosphere and really lovely setting. Couldn't recommend more highly. Such a welcome addition to the south coast dining scene!
M. W.
We ordered the Feast (set menu) and were very happy with the portions and styles of the food. The meals with diverse and creative - each dish was something interesting. Pleasant setting and friendly service. Was very well suited for our engagement. Never a fan of the tipping option at the end however - especially when you're already paying so much for the dining experience.
M. L.
We had an amazing experience at Bangalay Dining. The food was cooked perfectly and so full of flavour. The staff were friendly, knowledgeable and attentive. The atmosphere was perfect, not at all noisy or crowded. We did have a little trouble finding the restaurant as it was our first time and the entrance was not on Staples Street as we thought, also more lighting at the entrance would help too. But well worth the search. Highly recommend!

This is a hidden gem! We were always greeted warmly by friendly staff. Breakfast was nice - one of the best muffins I had. No complaints with coffee either.
Dinner was exceptional - awesome roasted pumpkin and very tasty flounder! Great cocktails but ran out of ingredients for the 'Davo' sour on our second night.
Looking forward to coming back, perhaps in the summer!
K. d.
Top notch food in a stunningly modern classic setting. The architecture is beautiful. The seafood dishes are all delicious! And the passionfruit souffle was amazingamazingamazing. Thank you for having us!
E. P.
Delicious. Really enjoyed everything from the kangaroo to the Moreton Bay bug Thermidor to the beetroot and hasselback potatoes. If you’ve got room, try the chocolate ganache for dessert.
M. B.
Our special luncheon yesterday was nothing short of perfection!! That goes for not only the food but incredible chefs, waitstaff and bar staff that work there. We couldn’t have asked for more.
We will be back to take advantage if not only afternoon drinks and oysters but breakfast and an evening meal here and there.
We are so lucky to have such a high class restaurant in our area and you are now our go to establishment. Our little bit of city by the beach.
We are so lucky.
T. E.
One of the best places I ever been. Amazing food and a very welcome service. Will definitely come back!
M. C.
Bangalay invited me for a meal for my birthday, it did not disappoint. The food was excellent. The lobster was cooked from fresh and not one of those pre cook ones. The kangaroo and the steak were perfectly cooked. Service was tentative. The only thing was that if I chose to have the set menu, the whole table has to have the same. It put a bit of burden on the guests that I invited along. Having say that the wine list is extensive. The Riesling chosen was excellent. I certainly will go back again.
a. e.
Incredible service from friendly & knowledgeable staff that where excited to share their wine knowledge when we had questions.
The food was above my expectations, high quality local produce beautifully cooked and presented.
Overall a wonderful dinning experience.
A. B.
Me and my mum had the best experience! I'm so glad we picked Bangalay for the Mother's Day lunch. We were both delighted by the shared set menu, the attentive staff and the atmosphere. The food was so fresh and inventive, and the surprise chocolates at the end were super cute! Thanks so much for a great day!
M. O.
The food was beyond my wildest imagination. The unique use of local ingredients and the masterful blending of textures and flavours all contributed to an unforgettable night for my wife and I, who were celebrating our 20th wedding anniversary. The expertise of the service team on both the menu and the wine list was matched by their warmth and friendliness. The wine list itself was an intriguing blend of well-known varieties and new (for me at least) wines from overseas. We can’t wait to go back!
E.
Perfect service, atmosphere and food for dinner on Friday night with every dish from the kangaroo to the roasted carrots and hassalback potatoes as well as the steak being delicious across the board, fantastic margaritas too.
We also had breakfast both mornings and the service was friendly and prompt, great coffee and breakfast options.
J. W.
Our lunch at Bangalay was delicious! The team were very accommodating of our dietary needs and developed a tasting menu we both loved. We also purchased a hamper to take away for dinner and we loved the tasty selection and the opportunity to take Bangalay home too!
D. G.
We had a great experience here. The food was exceptional and the staff were also. The wine list has come a long way and the non alcoholic drink options were solid too. Very happy and will definitely come back.
C. O.
always enjoy dining at Bangalay, it's so much fun with Bangalays inovative, creative menu, foraged local ingredients and delicious combinations of flavours. Amazing service. Simone what a fabulous waiter. Gorgeous ambience. Love the coziness of the new winter drapes!
C. -.
We had lunch here last weekend and thoroughly loved our experience. The staff were knowledgeable and lovely, the setting is stunning, the food fantastic (we only had nibbles and a platter as we were not that hungry) and as a Sommelier, the wine list was amazing for a restaurant of that size and location. We will be back as often as we can.
S. S.
Absolutely stunning meal here, with fantastic use of native Australian ingredients. Can't recommend highly enough!
C. B.
I love this place. The location and decor are great and the food is delicious. I went here with a group of 7 for breakfast. Food is fresh and I love they use native Australian produce in a lot of their menu items. The degustation menu is a must, and having two vegetarians in the group they had lots of choices.
M. T.
Had quite a good dinner here on Friday night. Food was very good; the main course (beef) especially was perfectly cooked, juicy and pink. Service was quite good for a small local town This isn't Sydney, so expect it to be a little more laid-back (in a good way).
A couple of things let them down. The bread was very ordinary (like supermarket dinner rolls that had been heated in the oven), and the salad was poor (mixed leaves with a few bits of cucumber and carrot added, and very little dressing). If you're going to charge extra for these things, put in a bit of effort.
The matched wines were OK, but the pours were on the small side for the price. I have no idea what they were or where they were from because we weren't told. We didn't get our dessert wines until after we'd finished dessert because the bartender poured them then went back to cleaning glasses rather than bringing them to us.
Overall, a good experience but they need to iron out a few little niggles with the service and food.
Z. B.
I recently dined at Bangalay and really enjoyed the new Feast menu. I appreciated the different and innovative cooking techniques I haven't experienced before as well of the use of the native ingredients
S. W.
I’d encourage anyone to visit Bangalay. Very impressed with all aspects of our meal - the Davo Sour cocktail delicious, loved our entrees of zucchini flower, kangaroo and Moreton bay bug. Mains of steak and lemon sole were superb and I did love our sides of hasselback potatoes (but a bit over cooked) and broccolini. Just some feedback to the kitchen team - some of our dishes could have been brought to us earlier as they were a little cool. Loved the extensive and well thought out wine list.
S. G.
Thoroughly enjoyed our evening at Bangalay last Saturday night.
We had the 6 course tasting menu. The kangaroo was very tasty. My favorite dish was the lamb, it just melted in our mouths. I found that the dessert was a bit big and a very heavy way to finish the meal.
Look forward to eating there again soon.

Despite COVID restrictions it was still a lovely dining experience. Spacing of the tables actually makes a the space quite and more intimate. Interesting delicious food combinations in the tasting feast menu
D. L.
What a sensational menu (the feast) we experienced yesterday afternoon at Bangalay Dining for lunch! The native ingredients and the innovative presentation I found awe inspiring! Well played Chef - and top marks to front of house crew too!! 👍👍👍👍
L. G.
A genuinely lovely experience.
Our food was incredible and so unique - we really appreciated how easily the kitchen accommodated our dietary needs too. Our waitress Emma was brilliant and topped the evening off.
Thanks so much, Bangalay!

Easily the best food in the area, incredible food tucked away in the Shoalhaven is perfect for any brunch when you want something extra special 😍
M. A.
Dinner at Bangalay Dining was outstanding. Everything we ordered was so delicious and the service was vibey, friendly and 5 star all the way. The following morning we had breakfast and I must say one of the best breaky's we have ever had! Can't wait to return! Special shout out to Chef Locky and waitress Zoe! The attention to detail in the Villas are cosy and gorgeous and we didn't want to leave! Thank you to all the staff for a perfect few days getaway.
R. C.
Had multiple visits here while staying at the hotel - random weekday lunch, Christmas lunch, kiosk.
The food was definitely delicious albeit on the quite small size for what you pay. Agree with previous comments about sides/salads.
Service on weekday was much better than Christmas.
Kiosk - although advertised everywhere as open daily to 12 - actually stop serving menu food at 11.30 which was quite frustrating finding out at 11.35 when stopping by to pick up toddler lunch - especially as a hotel guest. Also was closed another day over Christmas - must have been Boxing day - but no signage anywhere to advise.
S. R.
The food was was ok. Entrees and starters nothing special. The whole flounder fish was amazing. The atmosphere was quiet cold. It was a cold night, no fire and it felt like no heating everyone had to keep jackets on
K. D.
I went to Bangalay went the first opened a few years ago, and it's great to see they've maintained their quality and commitment to Australia focussed food. Loved the tidbits about the produce from our waiter.
L. R.
Lovely meal, great service, huge wine list but oddly only 1 Shiraz ($300). However this encouraged us to try another red that was lovely, wines were expensive. Another issue was the tables were close together if you wanted a table for 2, which I thought was odd in these Covid times.
J. D.
What a fantastic experience! We were visiting from Sydney and our AirBnB host recommended that we try this restaurant. We chose the 6 course tasting menu because it was so different to anything we'd seen or experienced before. The presentation and flavours were absolutely outstanding and, together with the knowledgeable and friendly service, all worked together to make a totally memorable evening. Highly recommended.

Amazing dining.. We enjoyed the Feast menu and found it a real dining treat. The staff were very accommodating and friendly. I would recommend the experience without hesitation.

The location, ambience of the dining room are fabulous. The menu is interesting and locally sourced. The food and wine list are superb. We love sharing this restaurant with friends

Divine food - the scotch fillet, pork rilette and eggplant were particular standouts

Lovely venue and a beautiful dining experience. Went there for my brides birthday. Food was excellent and the staff were attentive without being intrusive.

Really enjoyed the Bangalay Dining experience and the food was beautifully presented. The set menu for our party was great and the quality of produce was delicious.

Nice setting and really cool 6 course menu with a good use of native ingridients. Friendly knowledgeable waitress although less so on courses dropped by the manager. Could be more attentive at topping up wine for a restaurant of this price. Well worth a visit if you are into food and staying in the area.

The most beautiful dining experience, exceptional feast with creative, gorgeous flavours. Very special and highly recommended

Great ambience for a Monday night! The wait staff were attentiveand the food service was adequate for a busy evening.
The meals were wholesome and of a good quality.

The degustation was delicious. Perhaps a little too much food. Loved all the local produce. We were cared for very well by the obliging staff. Thank you. I’ll be back.
J. B.
We greatly enjoyed the 6 course tasting menu, particularly the kangaroo, barley & "green ants" courses. Service was friendly, fantastic & professional in a great setting. We'll be back when the next chef's tasting table is available.

Another wonderful food experience at Bangalay. The team is exceptional and were really attentive. We dined over 3 nights as we were staying in the fantastic accomodation

Excellent modern Australian cuisine with a strong push for local ingredients. The wine list is consists of a lot of local wineries. We had the 6 course degustation and it was simply devine. Recommend

The food and service was exceptional. They also followed covid safe protocols which left us feeling confidence in their service.

We expected it to be expensive, and it was a bit, but, it's really about the same as other fine dining restaurants. The food was delicious, well-cooked and well-presented. There was more than we expected in the seafood platter for 3 people. The homemade bread and seaweed butter was delicious. Leanne knew what she was doing and was the perfect waitress. She recommended the organic Prosecco and it was the perfect accompaniment to our meal. We agreed we'd certainly go back.

Try the set menu, for $99 each you get 7 dishes enough to feed a couple and then some. Good quality food, mostly locally sourced. Relaxed vibe and nice atmosphere.

Absolutely delicious fine dining, attentive friendly staff and a great atmosphere. A hidden gem on the South Coast.

Our group had an enjoyable experience dining at Bangalay. The food was delicious and the ambience was lovely for a cold winter’s day, especially relaxing by the open outdoor fire pit. Will come again.

World class food on the south coast. We had the tasting menu and it was an incredible journey. The chefs are lovely and really are talented artists. Local produce and unique australian flavors make this very special. Up there with Michelin restaurants I’ve eaten at around the world, only this time you take a stroll on the beach after!

Delicious food, excellent service in a superb location. Can't wait to return 👍👍
d.
sensational food (we had the tasting menu) & exceptional service, waiters who actually knew the menu - a first for the area but made such a difference

Food was great, mains were a little bland and could have had a better flavour. Service and staff were amazing. Great team you have on board
A. T.
It was a new spot since I was here last that I thought that I would check out. I was there for breakfast which was lovely and well priced, the decor and the setting is great as well.
My only gripe is that I wish people wouldn't bring their dogs to food outlets. I had to contend with the smell of a dog that had been to the beach and was still wet and stunk and then there was another dog that sat in front of me licking it's butt.
J. W.
Portion sizes were a bit small for the price and the medium rare steak was more like medium well. Of the items ordered amongst the 6 of us it was only the barramundi which got a favourable review at the table. This was a Sunday lunch.

Great meals. Great service. Great wine and cocktails. Very enjoyable dining experience once again.
J. B.
Elegant yet casual dining option near the beach with a lovely Australian flavour. Great coffee and smart architectural design. Make sure you pop into the small but beautifully curated store selling throws, jewellery and homewares. A jewel in the Shoalhaven area.

Nice setting, great service and wonderfully different food. Will definitely be returning!

The food is nice, not incredible but nice. The atmosphere is amazing. The only issue was the temperature inside was absolutely freezing. I couldn’t feel my toes when we left and shivered throughout the entire meal.
L. D.
Absolutely perfect. Stunning local food cooked to perfection and local wines. Fabulous service and stunning setting. Why would you go to Wollongong or Sydney when we have this.

The class Australians can create is astonishing. Shame the manners of some of the patrons doesn't acknowledge the creator's incredible work.
