This is a famous steak house restaurant at the star, its best to book in advance. The steak they served here are very good quality. The price are not exactly cheap, but it's worth the price. They do have other dishes and desserts aswell. They do change their menu from time to time. I remembered the last time we had quail aswell.

Absolutely phenomenal! The food, the ambiance and the service were incredible! Even though BLACK is a steakhouse they catered for a vegetarian who was at our table. We also had another person who doesn’t enjoy eating steak but changed their mind when they tasted the steak BLACK offered. Everything that was placed on our table was throughly enjoyed - nothing went to waste.

Steak was delicious! Juicy and seasoned well. We also ordered Steak tartare as the entree and while it was really good, the decoration was a bit overdone with copious amounts of cilantro on top. Chips were also fantastic however the mash potatoes were a let down as they were very under seasoned and a little reminicent of playdough (it's usually great but this time not so much). Must of been a busy night as the waiter wasnt the most helpful to us but overall the night was a good experience

The best restaurant cannot describe any better. Cooked to perfection food at its best everything was on par. Waiter was very attentive from beginning to end. Highly recommended & best of luck to get a booking so book very early. Will most definitely be back again.

Black Bar & Grill - One of the highlight dining experiences during my recent visit in Sydney. Situated inside of The Star Casino, the location is sensational but I picked this restaurant by hearing the great reputation of the dishes themselves, not by the location - so the modern, beautiful decor and the great view of the water was a great bonus! We booked just a week before but escorted to the window seat. The food was excellence. Precisely cooked.
Very Very Very impressed by the customer service. Very attentive staff (our waiter PARTEEK , runner DIEGO and MICHAEL) and courteous service. They served my family very well and politely - constantly checked up on our table and made sure that we always had drinks, our table cleaned and that we are happy with our meals. Every server did a great job and I will definitely be going to Outback again with our server.

Black is one of the best steakhouses I have ever been in Sydney. The meat is cooked to exactly as you ordered it.
I had the rib-eye and the meat was cooked exactly to perfection. No sauce was needed to be added as the seasoning was perfectly balanced. Meat just melts in my mouth and taste absolutely of heaven.
The entrees are delicate and delightfully introduces your tastebuds to what you will be expecting for your meal.

Visited Black Bar & Grill to celebrate a birthday and it was a lovely experience. We ordered the wagyu tasting chefs selection and it’s a very good quality offering for 2 people. The sides were all delicious too especially the Mac & cheese and the creamed corn. The wine selection is extensive and the service is top notch. It’s an expensive experience but enjoyable nonetheless.

We never made a reservation, however this restaurant managed to fits us in the bar area! They catered for us and looked after us the whole night!
We were there for just the cocktails and of course the desserts!
The chocolate ganache was amazing! Please try if you do visit! And make sure you have your video ready as they will pour hot chocolate all over the dessert, you can watch it melt in front of your eyes!!!

The most incredible experience at Black bar and grill. Amrita and Belinda were exceptionally attentive, making sure we we fed and watered. Recommending the best entrees and deserts. The ambiance and the food was second to none and I cannot thank the 2 above enough for the tremendous experience. This is the 2nd visit to Black and I will continue to return and recommend to my friends and my family. Again, the most amazing food. The Strip wagyu beef is definitely a must!!!!

We arrived in the hopes that there may have been a cancellation in order to get a table as we had heard the place was booked out. It wasn't even an issue, they kindly accommodated the 2 of us and immediately set us up with drinks. Husband had the "troppo" cocktail and I a delicious pinot noir. Every single thing we ate was delicious, the oysters were fresh and tasty, Moreton Bay bug cooked to perfection with a surprise twist of a cauliflower salad being a star. I had the toothfish for main course and husband had one of the daily special steaks. Both were absolutely flawless and the sides were delicious as well.
Not only was the food excellent, the service was fantastic. Our waiter was attentive without being intrusive, the perfect combination!

We were greeted by our server Prateek who was fantastic through out our service time. you can tell how passionate he is about working at Black Bar & Grill with his attitude, performance & attire. His personality makes the experience something to remember along with the fantastic food.
We both had the Reviver Cocktail which was fantastic! a taste of sweet with citrus! definitely good enough to have more than 1!
We Started with the Charcuterie Board which is a light selection of meat with some other paring selections.
The Wagyu Tasting Chefs Selection for our main is a meal to remember! absolutely incredible - 3 types of meats that melt in your mouth in different ways - a must have! We were given some sauce to pair with too!
We ordered the 3 sides to accompany our main to ensure we had the chance to try what we could! they were the Mac & Cheese 3 cheese, Mushroom Ragout & the Cos Lettuce Salad - all side dishes worked perfectly with our main and complimented each other.
For dessert we had the Creme Brulee that was that nights special & the Apple tatin, both amazing desserts with a array of flavors that all worked incredibly well!
Thank you Prateek for the amazing memorable service, thank you to the Chefs for preparing & serving food that is just as memorable. We are returning very soon & are looking forward to the amazing service & equally as amazing food.

Spent a very enjoyable evening dining on some great food and wines. Lovely surprise of some olives and bread to start the evening. Great dinning experience. During there during our anniversary and we were very impressed with this place. They have divine customer services, and the food and their presentation are brilliant! Their see-through kitchen with spotless kitchen benches have proofed that hygiene and delicious can co-exist. They are serious about their business.
Once being greeted and seated, the complementary brioche is to die for! Nicely baked with black salt with melted butter! tip: ask for a re-fill if you can. ;)
For entrée - the smoky octopus we ordered was so good that already made an impression that 'the best are yet to come'. And that didn't failed our expectation.
Their mains were very impressive. I ordered steak and it was cooked just the way i wanted. Their mushroom sauce was very genuine with mushrooms rather than sauce. Guess you pay what its worth. :P
At the end of the course, one of the staff overheard that the night was our anniversary so he surprised us by drawing up 'Happy Anniversary' on our desserts. Aren't they smart!! Tips were well deserved and worth it. Will surely come back for more!
p.s. if you're not fan of walking stairs, there's one unisex bathroom on the same floor. However if you can take a few stairs, you'll be impressed how clean they are although they;re hidden away on the 2nd floor.

Always pleased when I come here, great view of Sydney. This was a special occasion and we were welcomed with a small cake, alot of appreciation for this thought. On wine selection ask for Eddy who recommends the best drop to go with your meal. Our waiter was very friendly and knowledgeable a pleasant to deal with. You can't beat the flat iron steak, it's a must try signature dish.

My husband and I had an amazing meal last night at Black Bar & Grill. A truly great experience and the food was definitely at the quality you would expect for the price. The Patagonian toothbrush was incredible! The only issue I had was the continual requests whether we wanted drinks or whether we wanted 'help' with the wine list. I'm not much of a drinker and my husband was okay with a glass of wine. There is no need to ask every 5 minutes, particularly when we indicated we would advise the waiter should we want to order anything more. Apart from that we had a lovely time.

My fav here was the desserts and will be going back to try others - cheesecake (deconstructed) and creme brulee for me were insane - such unique and amazing taste and good portion. I love trying out different dessert, these were by far the best and unconventional.
We were served by lovely Francesca who gave some amazing recommendations and was so attentive and full of humour.
Wagyu ribeye 1kg was generously shared by 4 of us and also tried toothfish which was very nice. I had the london dry mocktale which was beautiful as well. All serving staff were very friendly. Only suggestion is on the bread which compared to somewhere like Hilton Glass a little too simple. Hilton has a good freshly-baked variety with olive oil that you can keep asking for more, would be awesome to see similar here given everything else was quite divine <3

The restaurant is located inside The Star casino property in Pyrmont, Sydney. A sister restaurant is also found in the The Star casino in Brisbane.
The selection of steak is excellent, we went for the David Blackmore Wagyu selection together with another Wagyu tasting selection. Altogether 1.6kg worth of meat to be shared with 6 person. We also order some side dishes to accompany the meat. The steak is served with an assortment of 6 different sauces. The meat was fantastic and beautiful cooked, soft and juicy. Most importantly it’s tasted like a top quality piece of beef. The fat within the Wagyu steak is sublime.
We were taken care of by PK. He listens well, understood our needs and gave us a memorable night at the restaurant. Fantastic wait staff.

I've dined here on multiple occasions and have walked away each time completely satisfied and happy.
The quality of the dishes are amazing and presentation is immaculate. The combination of fresh ingredients and cooking technique results in delicious food that I want to eat every day.
Price-wise, it's on the high side but when considering the entire experience, I definitely believe it's worth it. On average, it's costed me roughly $100 per person for a 3 course meal with non-alcoholic drinks.
Basically, I love this restaurant and it's on my list of top 10 restaurants I've tried in Sydney.

Amazing service, amazing food, beautiful ambience and beautiful view. This is such a classy restaurant serving the most amazing Australia breed wagyu. If you have enough friends with you, make sure to try the 1kg aged wagyu. Melt in your mouth delicious goodness is how I would describe it. The wagyu tasting plate is the same meat albeit not aged, but just as amazing and allows you to savour different cuts of meat. The sides have nothing worth noting, however the free brioche bread was really good.

Foodwise we had the suggested meal course and it worked out well for our big group. Strangely they made uneven numbers of food which was difficult to share. I.e. 8 prawns for 6 people?
Don't think that was planned. Either way it meant more for me.
Service is impeccable. My glass never got empty. Started off a little wry when the receptionist didn't know too well how to use the booking computer to find our booking.
People usually come here for a fancy feed before a fancy night out. Expect people to be dressed up and well presented.
Everything on the plate was super delicious. The flat iron 9+ was absolutely melt in your mouth good...
I've only had better in Japan from my short term memory.
Bear in mind that the steaks are usually quite rich and heavy given the marbling content. Choose quantity wisely...
Desserts were super fancy and the although the choc ball gets all the accolades, everything is worth trying. Even the cheese plate with a nice wine.

The service was absolutely amazing, they asked for the occasion upon booking to prepare a small happy bday dish, the staff are always aware of our table and constantly offered to service. Exceptional service, good wine selection. The Rib eye meat platter was delicious! It's a great place for sharing platters, especially for beef lovers. Oh my goodness - finally REDEMPTION from The Star. After being disappointed by Sokyo - BLACK has by far reinstated some faith into me that restaurants at The Star can deliver great food and not just try to rip you off. The croissant bread that comes complimentary got the ball rolling into a great dining experience. Oysters, Scallops and Sashimi were all for entrees - with the sashimi being the let down amongst the trio. Highly recommend the other two though. Finally - what I’ve been waiting for... STEAK. The Angus striploin and wagyu skirt were cooked to med rare... with the WAGYU outclassing all of the other Angus varieties. If you’re on a budget - skip the entrees and just get the WAGYU because it’s enough to satisfy... TRUST ME. Sides were pretty good and complimented the mains well and great portion sizes too.

My first time here...From the filtered water to dessert and coffee, everything was superb! Morton Bay bugs are a must and the brioche with butter and salt flakes were oh-my-gosh yummy! The staff were next level and made the experience even better. The lamb and steak were creamy and should be eaten as soon as served. The complimentary brioche loaf is delicious, warm & wafting with a rich butteriness when it lands on the table. The dishes are all beautifully plated & modern with great flavours. The steaks had an interesting texture from being sous vide first before finishing on the chargrill, although it does not come with anything at all, just a piece of steak on a plate which looks quite bare. Loved the taste & theatrics of dessert with the hot, rich chocolate ganache being poured at the table. Petit fours are a nice finish to a great evening.

Third time I have been here and this restaurant never lets the taste buds down, staff have a high level of service and great attention to detail. BLACK is probably my #1 for steak ❤️ I’ve always had a great time with fabulous service, delicious cocktail recommendations, and some of the best chips in Sydney. The Wagyu here is incomparable, with the perfect amount of marbling and a surprising smokey edge from their grill. I have a secret soft spot for their bioche too 👌🏻

Best steak I’ve ever had, honestly it’s worth every penny.
The first time I came was with a friend who recommended one of the more expensive grain fed steaks, but the waitress said the chef was doing the rounds and would be over to talk us through the different cuts and marble scores, he actually recommended the grass fed ribeye. We took him up on the offer and I’m glad we did, it melts in your mouth. The sides are very generous too.

I hosted my engagement dinner at black bar & grill and dealt with Charlotte the events manager. She was amazing & made sure every single one of my requests was met (within guidelines of covid), & i can not thank her enough for that. We hired the semi private room at black, which was private to our use the entire evening. It’s a really beautiful room that looks onto the harbour with city views. The night went smoothly & the service was impeccable.
The assigned waiter to my table was super attentive & for-filled all my requests. He even stayed back to help us pack up everything after. We had external plates, glass wear & cutlery brought in. Every single piece was cleaned & given back to me. This was my second time dinning at black, & again...The Food was AMAZING. There was not one complaint all night.

Unfortunately BLACK was underwhelming from what others had described. The rib eye in my opinion was under-seasoned and lacked the beef flavour that was described, even though we requested medium rare and me adding more salt. Perhaps this restaurant is known for its fatty Wagyu beef rather than leaner breeds of beef. The bernaise was cold and lacked flavour also. The chips were average, expected a better product from a higher end restaurant. Finally, the brioche bread does not complement the meal - a complex flavoured sourdough or similar would've been more appropriate.
The service was excellent and the waiter's recommendations of wine pairing were spot on.

One of the best steaks I have ever eaten, cooked to perfection. As an entree, the beef carpaccio is full of flavour and definitely prepares you for what is to come. In my opinion I couldn’t go past the flat iron wagyu 9+. It comes with an array of sauces which are so good ( particularly the bbq ) but to put sauce on such a beautiful cut of steak is borderline sacrilegious, you will not be disappointed.
For dessert you simply cannot go past the creme brûlée, it just personifies decadence so much so you really don’t want it to end.
The wine list is super extensive and would easily cater for any enophiles palate.
The customer service was superb, Addy and all the staff were delightful and made me feel very welcome and comfortable.
If you want to treat yourself to a night out and an awesome steak then you have to try this place.

If you're celebrating an event, want something a little fancy and to be served with quality food and service, then this is the place to go!
Our mains (skirt and flank) came with complimentary sauces and the two sides and dessert we chose were plentiful.
We were lucky to have Prateek serving us for a birthday dinner. He made us feel valued because he spoke to us in a warm manner and was polite throughout the whole night. We were even surprised with a slice of cake with the words 'happy birthday' scribed on the plate. Just ask for this when making your booking over the phone or online in the notes section.
It's also very appreciated that Prateek assured us that providing a tip was not necessary before walking away when he gave us the eftpos machine. We've had many negative experiences of waiters lingering over us at other restaurants making tips feel more of an obligation than gratuity.

Absolutely delicious steaks and bread. Worth it for a treat or special occasion. The only let down is the service- our waiter was rude and commented on our dining etiquette. He was a total joke and doesn’t deserve a job at this fine establishment.

Visited Black again and received great customer service. The 1kg sirloin steak was melt-in-your-mouth! The wine selection was compatible and lovely.
The only downside was that we were asked to leave our table just after 90 mins - we didn't even order dessert. Apparently there was an event in the whole restaurant. We were not told this before the booking (not in the email or texts) and not told when we arrived. Really disappointed that this happened. A sour taste in our mouths. You don't want our business for dessert, that is your problem, but don't treat your loyal customers like that!

Very, very good. Pre dinner menu, everything was cooked beautifully and timed well so we weren't rushed. One of our party is a coeliac, and she was even provided with her own gluten free bread - it was actually better than the brioche, which was probably the only thing I didn't love. i have had the steaks here before and they were very good. Last night we got the lobster tail and king prawns which were delicious and very flavour rich. My only complaint was the portion size of the lobster tail for $50 was extremely small, there were literally 3 bite size pieces. We had also ordered the gnocchi , which due to allergies had to have so modifications. Even tho it had to be modified, it was still disgusting. It was too soft and mushy and no flavour and bland....had to send it back!
The other complaint i have is that the portion sizes seem to be getting smaller and smaller with time..at $50 per plate average, you expect more than just good flavour..you expect a decent portion

there were many people that attended and served the table, unfortunately trying to get your waiter's attention was a whole new effort....it took 20 minutes after our food had came out to finally tell the waiter about the gnocchi..and it took 35 minutes to get our bill and another 15 min to pay...even the couple sitting at the table next to us were frustrated for the exact same reason. I’m not a big steak eater at all, but i was really impressed with Black. I had the eye fillet which was cooked perfectly.. very tender and flavourful. I really enjoyed the selection of sauces they provided too. My partner had lamb which was delicious, but we weren’t too fond of the extras on the plate. We also ordered the mac and cheese, mushroom ragu, and mashpotato sides which complimented our mains well. We hope to be back soon!

Mixed feelings. The Food was good, price is on the higher side though not a huge factor. The waitress we had wasnt a good fit for us i guess, she didnt make us feel welcome when serving unfortunately and there were communication issues. Putting that aside on entry the ambiance was great with mood lighting, the bar has a good selection of drinks while waiting to be shown to your table. Lots of patrons looked to be having a great time. We were also given complementary bottle of champanye after spending over $450. Great for groups of 6 or more. We enjoyed ourselves overall. The wagyu steaks are the highlight.

This is the lowest score I haven given to an outlet, mainly because the service at Black is shocking, the first time we went, it was the worst service I have ever had in my life, I don't know why we went back, but we did, it wasn't as bad as the first time but still nothing close to what you would expect from a restaurant as what it claims to be fine dinning. Some at the table ordered the $49 Friday Lunch on both occasion, however the quality and quantity of food turned out to be so different? Frist time was way to much food and second time barely enough.....
Food quality deserve 4 stars, but the service put bitter in our mouths on both occasions.
I would be back if the service is improved.

We came here with high expectations but were let down by the service and the quality of the steak. Cooking steaks should be their bread and butter so to send one out that was clearly over cooked was pretty bad!
I sent my striploin back (at $69 you want it to be cooked to perfection), I ended up with a medium as opposed to medium rare! This obviously interrupted the dinner as I was sat there whilst my mates had their food - they have us a couple of extra sides but no other gesture of goodwill which was rather disappointing.
I wouldn't recommend going to Black - there are far too many better steak houses in Sydney at fairer prices!

Having been to a few good steakhouses in Sydney, what sets Black Bar & Grill apart is the service! Attentive and accommodating waitstaff, who didn't bat an eyelash when we turned up 30 minutes earlier than our booking, showed us to our table straightaway, and even offered to help take off my coat when I sat down. When my partner and I were commenting on how smooth the butter was that came with the complimentary bread, we think a waiter overheard us talking and he brought us another slice of the butter, just because we liked it! It's just those little things they did that made their service stand out. The food came out very fast too. Even thought the food itself didn't stand out as much as other places we have been to, the service itself was impeccable. We will be back!

A posh and fancy place thats pricey for all meals, but they are very tasty, and cooked to your liking.
We dined here with friends for the evening for a good feed, something special whilst in Sydney. The staff at the beginning were attentive and helpful with the menu and drinks, however, as the night went on and the place started to fill up, the service lacked and the speed of the drinks coming out to the table was POOR.
It took about 20minutes to get drinks sent to the table, with us having to ask again where they were. During the entire evening we were only able to have two drinks each because the service was slow and lacking throughout.
The water wasn't filled up on the table, we had to ask again for this to be done.
The food however was good, tasty, and on point. Steak is the way to go here, plenty of options, although pricey, but still tasty and if you're a meat lover, you can't go wrong.
Overall its a nice place for a good feed. Service is lacking so don't count on getting drinks served too quickly, but the food is a winner!
Not sure i would return, unless they can pick-up the speed of service moving forward.

The venue was quiet nice beautiful view out to the city and the waiter was well trained . But I thought the food was pretty average when ordering was even told by the waiter that steaks are small so ordered one steak and one chicken tried thechicken it was just bland boneless chicken that didn't end up eating and the sides were just as average they look like they've been prepared a day or two before and the chips were like you got from Red Rooster on a bad night

The service here is impeccable. The server was engaging and he knew his stuff. One of my colleagues had lunch at the place and she had a gluten and shellfish allergy. Amazing, amazing food - rib eye to share was incredible and the mushroom side and steak sashimi starter all highlights. Chocolate fondant dessert a little disappointing as was the service which, while very good, was a bit slow at times as the restaurant was very busy. Not all of our dishes came out at the same time and we had to request a missing piece from our main course. Not a lot wrong but when you are paying a premium service should be a little sharper.

Really great food and great service. We ordered the maremma duck which was so delicious - we definitely recommend this if you're dining in a group, as it serves ~3 people. The most tender duck that I have ever had in my life. It was a very generous serving for the price - you get a whole duck and two sides. We also ordered two steaks - one grass fed Angus and one grain fed Angus. They were delicious, tender and perfectly cooked, as usual. But we felt the duck was the stand out dish of the night! The desserts are always a must order - they're delicious, well presented and the chocolate dessert usually has an element of theatricality! Always have a good time dining at BLACK and we will definitely be back!

Grass-fed scotch fillet was tender and flavorful, but quite thin. My scotch should have had more warmth and juices in the center (asked for med-rare but got closer to rare). Rib-eye on the bone was juicier and better. I would go for one of the thicker cuts next time (like ribeye), as scotch is really thin.
The plate should be warmed before serving.
Oyster entree was fresh and the dressing --balsamic-- was beautiful. Highly recommend the oysters! The salad was extremely fresh and crunchy, really nice!

We went to the Star on Saturday, passed by Black with my husband. We didn’t have a booking and the place was pretty busy so the host offered us to seat at the bar for dinner. This place seems highly reliant on its location and tourists and people that pretend they have money. If you're looking to show off or have a fancy night out and be merely satisfied with your meal, this is the place for you. The food is ok. Not great not amazing just ok. It definitely does not meet expectations for the money they are charging.
Places like this will always be kept open due to there ability to keep attracting tourism. However tourist trap restaurants in this city for some reason feel like they can charge a fortune and produce standard food.
This is a bit of a long winded review, but it consistently frustrates me going to places such as this and receiving food that leaves me and my family still hungry after a meal.

Elegant venue with good service, great if in the mood for quality meat and not on a tight budget.
Started off with the delicate kingfish ceviche we then ordered a grass fed angus ribeye, a scotch and sides of potato mash, fries and mushroom and herbs pie.
The steaks were cooked to perfection and had enough fat which gave the meat a rich flavour. The sides were also of a high standard, the potato mash was buttery and tasty, the fries fluffy and crispy.

Everything was perfect! My husband and I went to Black for our Anniversary dinner and when we booked online they asked if we were celebrating a special occasion. When we arrived the host congratulated us and then multiple waiters congratulated us and the chef decorated my dessert plate. Presentation was really nice but some of the flavours weren't quite as engaging as I might've liked, especially the mash which wasn't really seasoned and could've done with more garlic. Wagu steak was also a little hit and miss, my skirt steak was overshadowed somewhat by my wife's flank. Where mine was a little dry hers was moist and flavoursome.
The service was impeccable, they were attentive and friendly without being invasive and we left feeling like we'd had a really enjoyable dining experience. We would go again.

Highly recommend the Sunday Champagne lunch, 3 courses plus free flowing Mumm Brut. The only thing they can improve is mushroom sauce as it was too runny but that's just detail.

The food was a bit of hit and miss. Spanner crab salad was excellent, oysters were fresh, and also their hapuka dish was definitely something special.
However the grilled steak dish was uninspiringly plain, sauce was nothing special, and wasn't even cooked to my request. I wanted medium rare, and got pretty well done steak.

We booked our dinner at Black well in advance as we took our eldest son here for his 18th and we couldn't fault it! This time around whilst the food was of excellent quality it was the service that really let our night down. Granted it was Friday night but still they either didn't have enough staff on or they were just slow. We waited a loooong time to get our first drinks they arrived half way through our shared entree plate then our next order didn't come at all even though we were charged for it...not good! Main course was fab mouth watering steak we did wait awhile for it too and as I confirmed when we arrived a little birthday plate was coming for our son with a complementary slice of cake we had to ask for that which was embarrassing and didn't end up being a surprise for our son. Overall we left think yes the food was great but the service is the thing that stays with you and it was below par

Fantastic fine dining with awesome city skyline views. I frequently dine at Black by Ezard and have tried a wide selection of dishes. The ambiance and service are excellent. They're stakes are particularly good. Menu offers some unusual dishes with amasing flavours.
This is a pricey joint though. Expect to be paying around the $350 - $400 for 2 assuming entrees, mains, desert and a glass of wine. The mains are generously sized however the entrees are tiny so suggest a couple side dishes.

I was recommended the "flat iron steak" priced at $86 for 200g. It was disappointing especially at that price. My steak was tough and lacked seasoning. The brocolloni were served cold. The carrots were the saving grace.

Black Bar and grill, formally Black by Ezard at the star has prime location, looking out at Darling Harbour and the Sydney cityscape. Perfect for a meal before a show at the Lyric theatre, which is just what we did.
It is a hatted steak house, that also focuses on Australian produce and seasonal ingredients. They offer ala carte, pre theatre and champagne lunches. We were here for a 3 course champagne lunch, with unlimited Perrier Jouet for $135 for a maximum of a three hour stay, which is pretty good for a hatted restaurant with drinks.
New executive chef Danny Karam and team has a marvelous menu of beautifully prepared foods, cooked and presented like works of art.
Before our menu options came out, we had my favourite thing – restaurant bread! This was a brioche loaf, quite like a croissant which was outstanding.
For the entrees, we had the oysters, beautifully shucked and served with a fresh vinaigrette. The beef tartare was marvelous– like a work of art with a beetroot sheet, curried egg topping and radish. I can’t explain how good this was. If you are after a fresh tasty dish you can order the fig salad, buffalo mozarrella, duck ham, candied walnut, bitter leaves and balsamic dressing. The chilled prawns with avocado, coconut and chilli dressing also had a nice bite to it. Amazingly, all starters are gluten free.
For the mains, we tried the Roasted lamb rack with an eggplant puree, tomato chutney, salt bush, goats cheese croquette and roasted onions. Cooked exactly as asked, the meat was wonderful quality and the flavours complemented each other perfectly.
Another great option was the grass fed angus fillet with roasted cauliflower and gremolata. It came accompanied with a variety of sauces including hot mustard, horseradish crème, bbq and salse verde.
The desserts were the climax to an amazing three course meal. You wouldn’t know from the menu, but the “chocolate ganache” was infact a chocolate ball, topped with chocolate sauce revealing peanut mousse and banana ice cream underneath – an absolute work of art. We also tried the lemon tart and cheese platter which was an extremely generous serving.
As for the service, it was as top notch as it should be, wait staff serving promptly and they kept the champagne flowing, and filled our glasses as we finished them.
We can’t speak highly enough of this restaurant and we will certainly be back.

The one-hatted spin-off restaurant by Melbourne's Teage Ezard has been on my visit list for quite some time. It's not all it's cracked up to be, however.
Service: service was a bit...wishy washy. When it was good, it was of the standards come to be expected of fine dining. When not...it was quite surprising. Some dishes were brought to our tables without any introduction at all, while we were offered a second loaf of wonderful brioche bread. Discontinuous? It seems to be that way.
Decor: It's The Star. Needless to say, it is impeccable. Though you can't really get much of an alfresco view, the fact that you can still see out to an almost borderless windowed vista is still a very nice touch. No matter if you're not sitting by the window - the inside of the restaurant is equally pristine.
Food: for the most part, very, very good. Flavours were bold and rich, not pandering to subtle and/or weird experiments that don't work. My main issue was that the food came in such a way that we were already feeling full after our third course - a particularly heavy poached egg & jamon dish.
Ezard has since removed their degustation menu, and perhaps this is a good thing - if you went a la carte, you may well be rewarded handsomely.

Once seated, our waiter quickly explained to us how the menu worked as it was our first time dinning here. Besides the à la carte menu, there is also a pre-theatre set menu on offer, wine list came on an iPad. While we pondered about what to order, the complimentary house made brioche arrived at our table. Even though the loaf was soft, rich and creamy, we just could not resist the soft and smooth butter that came with it. Flakes of volcanic black salt is also on the table if you should fancy it. The Beef Tartare with heirloom beets, mustard ice cream and puffed wild rice was delicious, the Lamb Rack which came with spring bean cassoulet and black garlic was cooked to perfection. The dessert dish Upside-down Cake served with pineapple curd, white chocolate powder and pineapple sorbet did not disappoint either. My friend was not very impressed with her dessert though, the Honeycrunch which was served with clover honey parfait, ginger biscuit, honeycomb and cinnamon. It was not what she had expected and felt it should have had a bit more honey taste and sweetness to it.
