Comments of Dopa Donburi and Milkbar
J. D.
Lovely quality of food! Really beautiful flavours and appealing presentation. Really loved the flavour of the miso soup. Price not cheap though. The wait time did take a while due to high density of customers. Wasn’t too fussed on the Mango Kakigori - too much ice and not much sweetness.
A. D. L. P.
So cool that they have buy one dessert get the second half price from 3-5 :) Very light and yummy desserts. The matcha isn’t too strong and it is also not too sweet. Mochi has such a cool filling and texture. Whole seating area is pretty cute and the staff were very friendly :)
T. O.
On the corner, long and thin, with some outside seating. Boppy music. Extensive range of standard Japanese don bowls. Food is well cooked and presented. Servings are a fair size. Perhaps a little expensive - but generally very good
C.
Super scrumptious ! Their chicken curry was absolutely delicious ! The chicken was crispy and tender, and their salmon was flavourful and cooked perfectly. The poached egg was runny, and overall such a wonderful place to enjoy dinner or lunch with friends or family. The place is quite small due to it's busy capacity, however it's a clean and welcoming environment that serve good-quality food. Can't wait to come back ! :)
A. L.
Lovely Japanese restaurant. Food is delicious and well presented. Service is quick. The self-order machine makes ordering process easy and convenient.
A. N.
This is my favourite Japanese restaurant so far.
It tastes pretty well. It's not that expensive.
The portion is just right to make you feel enough.
Matcha ice cream is expectedly bit bitter, just like Matcha powder taste.
Mango kakigori is recommended to share, personally.
The service is efficient.
P. W.
We ate here during the Chinese New Year. The food is delicious and it has friendly service. We found the restaurant grotty inside so sit outside. You pay at the counter and get a buzzer. Best to book on the weekend.
K. D.
Grilled Salmon Don and Miso soup was great! 8/10. Quick food and service, unfortunately couldn’t try the dessert because all run out 😣 . Will come back to try next time .
Z. C.
Dopa is so good. The wagyu and salmon are so fresh. I love the dopa mango dessert so much. And the size of the meal is very suitable for lady.
z.
Average. I didn’t think it was that great. But it wasn’t that bad. Would be good if there was something more Japanese about this place. Seems to have lost its authenticity somewhere.
G. H.
Great food quality, friendly service, a very nice experience with sets or single dishes that are traditional or creative in a Japanese style. Fresh salmon belly sashimi with rich fat and oil, very tasty and healthy. A place for both cheat meals and healthy options.
Y.
Finally got a chance to check out this place! Super cute and tasty don! I love the teriyaki eggplant, my partner loves the pork katsu! Extra meat is a must for a meat lover like him lol
E. H.
Not worth it. Ordered wagyu MBS 7-9, turned out to be super dry and overcooked, the texture is more like grade 3+ wagyu. Disappointed.
Pork katsu is also very dry… sauce-wise is ok.
K. T.
Very delicious food. I have tried the Chicken Rice Bowl with Ginger Shallot Sauce ($15 on Deliveroo) and the Karaage Chicken Rice Bowl ($15 on Deliveroo). Both were incredibly tasty and well portioned. The addition of the soft egg and seaweed are delightful. I will be returning to this restaurant, and would highly recommend it.
A. G.
yummy, but portion size was a bit smaller than normal Japanese restaurant.
D. H.
Really good food and has a lot of variety. Them dessert toast was amazing too! For the price and location, really good value. Would definitely recommend.
K.
Tasty well cooked food, spacious (sat outside with our group of 7) and quick service.
L. L.
Yummy donburi (we tried chicken, hoki and beef tongue), not too expensive, quick service. Portions just right, for a little extra you can make it a set including miso soup and salad. Our favourite place for lunch now.
J. L.
The waiter was nice enough to clean a bigger table for us because we needed to use a high chair.
Food was amazing and delicious, the wagyu wasn't over cooked and the salmon was also perfectly grilled.
Would definitely visit again and try out the desserts
M.
Been here quite a few times now and always enjoy it. The food always tastes great and fresh and has a great price too! I like their ordering system but would make more sense to order first then sit down.
H.
Nice healthy and tasty Japanese bowls. Many diff options available like a cheeseburger bowl!! It was nice but the wagyu and teriyaki chicken are the best flavours. They have self service which I like because I can see my options on a big screen.
H. L.
Dinner at @dopabydevon - good food and efficient service. Good donburi!
.
Unagi donburi: good tasting unagi! The other components of the donburi were good too. Excellent!
.
Beef tongue donburi: very nicely done beef tongue - it had a fairly bouncy texture, and the flavour was good!
.
Dessert: zenzai - red bean dessert, ice cream, taro. I think this looked better than it tasted. A bit bland I thought.
A. P.
we couldn't pass up the opportunity to try out a famous donburi from @dopabydevon !
.
.
Out of all their mouthwatering offerings we settled for the ultimate bowl...a bowl featuring Wagyu steak, bbq tongue and foie gras, a pork katsu curry and a side of sashimi (wifey can't get enough raw fish now she's moved past pregnancy!)
.
.
The ultimate don was as amazing as we thought it'd be. Perfectly cooked buttery cuts of steak, perfectly seasoned with even more buttery rich melt in your mouth foie gras. Who knew rich and richer flavours would pair together so well.
.
.
The pork katsu curry don was also good, perfectly crispy battered pork cutlets to soak up all the delicious golden curry.
.
.
The real expected hit was the real wasabi they used. Like ground up wasabi root and not just horseradish paste. I couldn't believe my eyes or tongue...we haven't had this treat since we were in Japan. The wait staff looked at me like I was crazy for eating plain wasabi long after the fish was gone but it was too delicious to let go to waste.
.
.
All in all we highly recommend this place for any lovers of Japanese food and their signature donburi
P.
I Didn't get a chance to take Snaps of our Lunch because it looked soooo delicious! The trick is to mix the rice bowls together, the seaweed, soft boiled egg, rice and whatever you get with it, it creates such a unique experience! The price point PP is affordable and would definitely recommend the teriyaki chicken! YUM!
E. L.
The food was all good but was very expensive for the quality. Some of our items (drinks, beer, cold tea) took over 20 minutes, and some was very quick. We had finished all of our mains by the time some drinks arrived. I'd probably come back for sweet stuff if I was in the area but not for the savoury food. There were also no ready tables for our group of 5 but we managed to get an extra chair to fit at an outdoor table.
M. C.
Nice resturant, food is above average. Price is not cheap by the way. But if you don't know what to eat in darling square, you might give it a try.
K. O.
One of my usual spot in Darling Square Haymarket for an affordable and delicious Japanese rice bowl. Their rice bowls have a great variety of choices from the most simple scrambled egg Don to salted baked/ Teriyaki/Karaage chicken, Saikyo miso Salmon, to wagyu to truffle Oyako and Ultimate Don. You can have a rice bowl or add a salad and miso soup combo for a complete meal. Their dessert are also good which include pudding, mochi gelato, Shibuya toast and Kakigori with different flavours. My favourite is the Matcha Kakigori, black sesame pudding.
K. J.
went here for lunch today and it was amazing!!!
i got the karaage chicken don, which at first i thought was nothing new, but the more i ate it the more i loved it.
the dried seaweed went with it so well, and the egg was so creamy (no egg clumps!), i could stir it directly into the rice. chicken was so nice, and also came with kewpie to dip.
i had the strawberry parfait for dessert, the ice cream on top was so nice and the strawberries were fresh. it was so yummy, but there were cornflakes in it or something, which i kinda didn't like. but once i got past that layer it was yummy again.
the staff were kind and helpful, and you order via giant tablet things which is super fast and easy.
there are also pictures on the menu which is really helpful in picking out what i wanted.
will definitely be coming back here again, i love the vibe and location also!
E. W.
15 minutes waiting time to be seated on busy Sunday and 15 minutes to be served, I enjoyed a delightful Sunday lunch here, food was great but portion sizes are small.
J. W.
As soon as the restrictions started to ease and Restaurants started to allow 50 people, we headed out to Darling Harbour. There weren’t a lot of places opened, but Dopa Donburi was so we got a table. It was cold that day and there were no seats inside but offered sit us outside and provide blanks as the gas heaters were not working. Location: it’s located in the newly built area where the old entertainment centre use to be, now it has become a hot spot for food, drinks and more food. Service: order at the counter, pay and collect. The food was prepared quickly. Menu: it can be quite confusing looking at it, but once you work it out then you can pick what you. The food selection is decent and sounds interesting. We chose wagyu cheeseburger Donburi, ox tongue was delicious and teriyaki salmon. Price: any customer who pays a lot for a meal but gets a small portion in return would not be happy customer even though it was yummy. If you have a big appetite this place is definitely not for you.
I did enjoy the food, but I didn’t appreciate paying $80+ for 4 bowls of Donburi with two added set menus which includes a small salad and a miso soup. A place that’s worth trying once and somewhere else to try next time.
W. Y.
I have a black truffle ultimate don there in this afternoon, it is very delicious. But the portion is not much and the waiting time is a bit longer than I expected, the don is coming with the tofu, it’s cost 54 AUD.
Overall, it’s a Nice restaurant,,the black truffle is good, I love it !
M.
Go-to restaurant. Not much services here.
Recommend wagyu dishes. Especially wagyu tongue and fish. Their curries aren’t great, pretty plain-tasting. Desserts are yummy.
F. O. I.
I ordered the Grilled Hake Don for pickup yesterday. I like the no-contact ordering system via the touch screen. Very easy & covid-safe. Just fyi they charge a surcharge for credit card payments.
My order didn’t take long to arrive and it was cooked fresh. The Grilled hake fish with saikyo miso, soft egg and seaweed was a joy to eat. It was well balanced with the freshness from the spring onions, the creamy richness from the soft egg and the sweet and salty tender fish and seaweed. I finished everything on my plate!
My friend also liked her chicken rice bowl! I’d love to come back to try more menu items.

Very, very nice food. Price is also quite reasonable. The teriyaki beef wagyu set is a must try! The unagi eel set also taste pretty good. Would recommend this place to anyone around the area.
M. P.
Visited there on a Sunday night, arriving at 7pm easily got me a table, but around 7 30 there was a queue to get in so would recommend arriving earlier.
The food was more expensive than I'm used to, with a full meal + dessert costing $50, and the food was decent Japanese cuisine, perhaps not worth the cost. However, the strawberry parfait was excellent, I would definitely return if I only ordered dessert, rather than a full dinner.
T.
Came here for dinner and ordered chicken katsu and dumplings. The atmosphere was nice given it’s tucked into a quiet corner of haymarket. Flavour-wise really good crispy chicken and juicy dumplings, it’s nothing incredible but it will satisfy any cravings for this sort of Japanese fare. The only thing I would change is the amount of rice which is high in proportion of the meat and curry which left me with quite a bit of rice left at the bottom.
S. S.
A last minute decision to eat out led us to explore the bustling lanes of Darling square which brought us to this gem. Though busy, the turnaround was quite as while we looked through the menu we were allocated seating as soon as we were ready to order with appropriate social distancing measures in place. The food was prepared in a reasonably quick period which we were alerted by the table buzzers which notified us when the dishes were ready to be picked up and brought back to the tables. As a vegetarian, the choices were quite limited obviously though what's on offer was satisfying and enough. Very nice atmosphere at night.
J. X.
My favourite restaurant in Darling Square. There is lots of tempting dishes to choose from and the desserts are creative Asian styled and delicious. The “Frozen” bingsoo was so unique and I loved it. I also ate the cheeseburger steak. I definitely recommend as a casual place to visit with friends and try new styles of food!

I love their desserts! So incredible. Their donburi's are really yummy too. Definitely would recommend
S. U.
Very well presented, tastes great, service is really quick and the self order machine makes ordering very very quick and easy. I think the price of the food is on the steep side, but other than that, great quality of food.
K. Y.
Nice place with friendly staff and good service. Interesting and delicious flavours especially with their seasonal truffle menu. Lower stars are for having soft soggy rice. Messing up rice is a crime for Asian restaurants...
C. R. C.
The portion is good enough considering you’ll go there for dessert and drinks too other than their mains
Rice a bit too much compared to the protein but my asian belly won’t complain about that 😉
We tried their salmon and pork katsu which was highly recommended by reviewers. And no doubt they are good!
Also ordered their famous dessert- matcha profiteroles!
Huge fan of the strong matcha flavour. Not so sure about their crispy profiteroles.
I still want to come back to try other dessert and drinks 😍

Food was good. I had the pork katsu and my friend had the wagyu beef.
In terms of price it was premium price based on probably location and the modern cuisine it offers.
Can be a deterrent but still worth trying if you like to try a new place.
The atmosphere and environment was good. Spacious for 2 people. Went during weekday after 2pm.
T.
The food isn't bad, but it's not good either. My food was slightly undercooked and made it a chewy and less than enjoyable experience. The curry being soaked in the rice didn't help either, as serving it in this fashion makes it more time critical to finish before everything gets soggy. Certainly the egg gives the dishes more aesthetic and some unique zest that isn't traditionally present, but the flavour of the curry here is noticeably lacking. It's clear that the dishes taste of inexperience and experimentation, which I applaud, but ultimately it sits as an overpriced and remarkably meek dining experience in it's current form.
The venue seems to be quite popular in spite of this, given its buzzing location and minimal aesthetic. Yet at the end of the day, the food doesn't quite deliver as a restaurant should. If things were to improve however, I could see this place popping off even harder if the food was actually good.
J. H.
Unfortunately most food dishes were unavailable when we arrived at 8pm, hence I would recommend to visit this place earlier if you plan to enjoy your dinner. Staff were occupied so I was kept waiting in line at the counter for a quite a while to order...despite that, vibrant atmosphere and nice desserts.
V. S.
I've been few months ago, finally I have time to review.
This is Japanese restaurant. Price wise, it is medium level of dining, but the serving and other are pretty like food court. Have to order and pay before get a seat. Clean and kind staff, but not extra-ordinary impression received. Food is not big portion for male adult unless you order side dish and dessert.

This place is now forever my go-to place for matcha desserts. I have looked far and wide in Sydney for amazing matcha desserts and this is the place to go! Matcha Shibuya Toast and Matcha Cheesecake top recommendations. Now it has been said the Matcha Cheesecake is too bitter BUT if you actually genuinely love the authentic matcha flavour and you have the maturity to savour the REAL flavour, this is a MUST. You honestly won’t regret it. Oh and a major plus it is a generous serving for quite a reasonable price. The savoury options are also worthwhile. Karaage chicken was crunchy and juicy. Just leave enough room for dessert because let’s be honest - that’s why you would come here.
C. C.
I will rate their desserts and drinks higher than the savory dishes. It's my go -to place if I just want a quick sweet fix. Kakigori was disappointing(the towering shaved ice looks really appealing but too much ice and not enough sauces and toppings), their chai latte is bomb though
L. F. A.
The dream of eating a strawberry parfait like you would see in Anime, can be fulfilled here! Not to mention the donburi are nice here. I'm curious to try others. It's a tad pricey but the experience is worthwhile.
A. Z.
I’m someone who loves greens with her meat, so wagyu soba is a really well-balanced meal 😋 The wagyu meat is flavoursome, rich, thinly sliced & best of all, I had plenty left over to share with others! Defs be back to try other dishes!
D. D. T.
I got the teriyaki chicken with rice set, my friends got the karage chicken and the omelette one I think. Can't remember exactly but the food is so filling! Such a great price too! Very chill environment, you order at the counter and are given a buzzer which goes off when your food is ready to collect. Loved the dried seaweed on top too! The drinks were way too sweet for me and my fried, I got the lychee, coconut with the rose petals one and my friend got the mango one, they're like fancy smoothies which you really can't finish with so much food haha if you love sweet stuff go for it! Not my thing though. Looking forward to coming again! 🥰
P. Q.
Good food and surprisingly nice to sit around for a while - you won't be rushed here. Only catch is the food isn't fast (but it's worth the wait!), so not ideal for a rushed meal.
N. (. S.
First time visiting here and always craving to try this shaved ice bowl and I'm not disappointed about to try their THE FROZEN STORM which inspired by Disney's Frozen the Musical.
Blue pea flower ice, blue Spirulina syrup, coconut and banana cream, purple potato, sago, coconut jelly
B. L.
Was very excited to try this place. The food is very pretty but its not amazing. The restaurant had a very raw meat smell and there is even a table where you're pretty much looking directly into the kitchen bench where they are handling raw meat.
D. N.
Post COVID-19 restrictions, our family has a pleasant visit and a meal we all have appreciated. Food order turnaround took a bit longer than expected but not too bad, however depends on the number of customers, expect 25-30 minutes wait.
E. T.
Food is properly cooked and presented, but still lacks a unique flavour. The salmon mentai was good and the chili is nice, but a bit overpowering. The 9+ wagyu is very soft and seared just right. However the cheeseburger don flavour was not a hit for us. The worst is the karaage. It's cooked well, but not on par with other restaurants. It's very similar in taste with the instant karaage mix you can buy from Asian stores. The yuzuade was alright though, but the green tea was expensive as well. Didn't try any desserts this time. Overall, it's good but there's other better restaurants for the price point.
I. L.
Tried the afternoon special of buy one and get one free dessert (available mon-fri, 3-5pm) Japanese influenced dishes, good presentation. We didn’t try any savoury or main dishes, while they look good, portion size look on the small side. Kakigiri (Japanese shaved ice dessert) popular in summer, although the shaving could be finer still. Might come back and try proper dinner sometime
Q. L.
The food is great, we ordered a waygu donburi and a long salmon (with caviar+$8). Food size is enough to keep us full. Great seasoning and the portion of salmon and Wagyu are generous!
A bit of downside is the credit card surcharge. They have this Sunday 10% surcharge and 1% card surcharge on top, which caught me off guard when I order.
However, food is great, I guess price is acceptable given it is in Sydney City area, and this restaurant is located in a newly renovated area next to China town and entertainment centre.
J. W.
Love my food in a bowl and love Dopa’s menu. I had the special which was a miso glazed king salmon donburi. Time to eat fresh, eat pretty and a little pampering. This location is also perfect for a little people watching right here in Darling Square... if you are into that 😉
A.
Spent my first official day post-lockdown eating at this super lovely place! The meals were absolutely scrumptious!! Probably should’ve chosen to dine inside because wind picked up and got too chilly to finish my matcha kakigori </3 🥲
Already have plans to visit here again and try more dishes! Thank you so much for the lovely food and service <33
M. M.
First time there and was highly impressed with the food. Unagi don was one of the best I’ve ever had!
R. H.
Dopa is a great addition to the Japanese dining in the city. Their food is delicious and well presented. Their shop is dope and the staffs are very welcoming.
E.
Their bowls may look small but they’re packed full of flavour and is extremely filling. Their mocha and matcha milkshakes is great. Complimentary water which is self serve (can either have lemon+cucumbers or strawberries).
Their Matcha Shibuya Toast is great!! Comes with matcha to pour, ice cream and strawberries.
Don’t recommend eating it all at once, will want to take a nap after.
C. M.
Amazing and creative take on Japanese dishes. Had the seasonal truffle menu which was so delicious! Would definitely come back for another dopamine hit.
S. J.
portion sizes were smaller than expected, and the honey yuzu drink was very sour. I had the wagyu cheeseburger curry. very red in the middle and not ezactly tasteful, would not get either again. we were asked to sit outside despite requesting an indoor seat as it was cold and raining, and not all the outdoor heating units were in use.
T.
This place is buzzing in peak hours so get in early. Quality food at a reasonable price. There's lots of casual Japanese places in the city but few do it well - Dopa does it well.
c.
Food was nice, I had the curry dish and it was just right for a chilly autumns day. Friends had the other dishes and we were quite happy all around
S. T.
Was excited to try Dopa for the first time after luving the original Devon and I was abit underwhelmed. It was very average tasting Japanese food. We had the teriyaki beef don set, salmon mentaiko don, teriyaki tofu and eggplant. I didn’t dislike anything but not a cafe I would go out of my way to eat at again. There is definitely better Japanese food out there for the same prices. Also tried the signature cheesecake, a bit dry, crumbly and in need of sweet relief. It was quite bitter without anything to offset the matcha.
n.
Wonderful little place, I come here often for a cheap and delicious meal. Very quick service, friendly staff and takeaway or eat in options available
d. c.
Dopa serves a fantastic range of meals and desserts - sweet, cold and fresh. Their dopashakes come in a range of flavors with a unique yakult icecream to top it all off. Would suggest a large kakigori (shaved ice) to share if you are with friends.
T. L.
We ordered katsu and grilled salmon bowl in a set. The food was well balanced. This place is a little bit pricey for their portion but anyways the taste and service were on point so definitely worth the try.
I. C.
I had the wagyu and was pleasantly surprised by the quality and taste of the dish. Never did I think a self service type of establishment like this could come up with such tasty and scrumptious meal. Definitely a must come and I would surely visit again.
H. T.
Wagyu don set was good but not $27 good. Hokkaido don $54.... Yeh nah. Tasty but overpriced

New favorite dine in place in the town ✌🏻🤩 yummy & healthy

Good food but a little too pricey considering portion sizes and that the shop is pretty much self service. Lines are a testament to its popularity, so if you do decided to go here, get in early or be prepared to wait.
S. K.
Had the teriyaki Wagyu don bowl and was blown away with how flavourful it was. The meat was perfectly cooked and the crunchy seaweed was a perfect salty addition. We also had the sashimi and it was super fresh and equally delicious. I highly recommend Dopa Donburi!
N. H.
The quality of the wagyu beef was very good, although I personally don’t think it was worth paying $30 for. The ordering and service system is odd (need to be seated by a waiter, then order at the counter, collect meal when ready, self serve cutlery/water) and considering the prices of the menu items, unjustified.
B.
The wagyu don was superb, however the desserts were the highlight
H. Z.
Went for the black truffle ultimate don but they ran out of both truffle and wagyu.. had the eel don set at last and it was not bad
T. H.
Food is definitely good but not amazing, drinks were better. Personally thought the pricing is fine given the location.
F.
Ordered $35.9 charged $39.9 with all the extra fees, would not return but the Ox tongue don taste was good however the rice got cold super quickly.
M. M.
Decent food. Friendly service. And a good variety. Wish there's more photos on the menu though.
A. T. S.
Really enjoyed the chicken rice dish - relatively cheap, tasty and healthy 🍻
H. C.
Pretty good Japanese donburi, bit sweet for me but it was tasty. I recommend to have the ox tongue donburi.
K. C.
Food was ok, nothing spectacular. Small portions for the price.
The seaweed salad was mainly lettuce and the pickles didn't taste 'pickled' at all.
C. U.
Their signature matcha cheesecake is a bit heavy as it follows after the American style cheesecakes. The matcha honey toast, while about a quarter the size of the one I had in Japan, had every bit the taste and i enjoyed it thoroughly.
K.
Enjoyed the good food here. Had pork katsu and beef for dinner. The food was served quicker than I expected.
S. K.
Good bowl, I think it was little expensive $29 with small miso and small bowl of leaf
Overall I enjoy it
A. L.
Food is great.
But it is a bit pricey for what it is.
The dessert is amazing but it came before the main which was a bit disorienting.
E. N.
A minimum one order per person. Ambience is good but It’s more of a self service place. Have to order at the counter, pay at the counter and get your food and cutlery by your own.
J. L.
Pork Katsu Curry and Wagyu Beef Bowl was delicious but portions were small for the price. The matcha mochi combo bowl and lotus shibuya toast were awesome and not overly sweet. Waitresses were polite and service was prompt. Will definitely return!
J. H.
the wagyu beef don is amazing, always worth going for mbs 7-9, so flavourful n tastes so good!
P. L.
Was pretty satisfied with today’s meal. The food was nice and the service was nice. The wait time was also pretty good. Would come back to try other items on the menu.
M. B.
Chicken karaage and agedashi are SO GOOD! But the pork katsu had too much batter and was a little dry.
A. M.
great food good drinks i wish they cleaned the tables more because ours was cleared but not wiped down …
T. H.
This place has a great menu. Lots of excellent options. Tasted fabulous. Reasonable prices. Service was fine. Wait time quite acceptable. Can easily recommend to anyone wanting good Japanese food. Would go again.
k. g.
fairly priced.
friendly service and clean environment.
plenty of seating inside and out.
heaps of options in their menu.
over all would be coming back again and again.
G.
Nice food. Tiny portion though.
k. e.
The place isn't too big. It's ok, giving 4 stars because we just went there for hot drink and desserts.
C. H.
Truffle is great!!!
I would like to try their normal dishes next time 😍
D. T.
Tried Pork katsu curry. Curry is good, but katsu. The coat really thick and the meat one very thin. To be honest it's worst katsu I ever try.
M. T.
The gyoza alone, get the 3 stars. Food was mostly ok, but someone in my group wasn't happy with their dish. The Beef Tongue Don.
My 'main' complaint would be the 'service'... of which, there isn't much. You have to order and pay at the counter, then collect the food yourself. Not only that, the condiments area is a 'serve-yourself' deal... and it's not well maintained or 'clean' looking....
I had 3 x trays to collect, so, I had to return to them sitting on the pass-over, tray by tray... a very inefficient and downright 'rude' way to collect your food, considering the price tag. If you're looking for an 'authentic' Japanese experience... the food is 'close'... but the staff are not Japanese... I'd rather go somewhere where the Japanese staff are friendly, cordial and sensitive to customers.
When I was trying to order and pay for our food... the staff were celebrating a birthday for someone behind the counter and 'busy' doing other things... 'sorry to interrupt your party at work'.... nice to see where my hard earned cash is going... to YOUR party?
I. O.
Yummy Japanese food at affordable prices. Very authentic!
F. A.
Modern japanese donburi and dessert with a twist. Worth a try but dont have too high expectations...
e.
chicken was really good but all kakigori was sold out when we went & matcha pudding was good but a bit overpriced
D. D.
Regular here. Sashimi bowls and wagyu bowls are my go to. Gyoza great too.
A. S.
Great quality tasty food, would recommend the terriyaki chicken, and beef Donburi. This place is covid safe.
K. L.
Staff are friendly service is good,
The wagyu beef don( rice bowl) is kinda like Korean and Chinese fusion more than a Japanese style.
Can’t really tell that’s wagyu beef.
The dry seaweed on the top is pretty sweet and oily, it makes half bowl of oil left down at the bottom of the rice bowl. Couldn’t finish it as it’s too oily.
Rice is not really Japanese rice tender it’s kinda like a jasmine rice.
Not recommended.
However my friend likes their salmon rice bowl so I would still giving out 3 stars.
Personally I won’t come back though.
T. T. T.
It feels like you are ordering at maccas and eating in the food court but paying high price and getting served with most unfriendly waitresses
A. A. T.
The staff are always super friendly and nice! A good atmosphere, though a bit pricey for some items. The donburi are always amazing, definitely recommend the salmon sashimi donburi or a curry dish. Love coming here for a good, quick lunch date.
F. M.
It was Monday lunch time and it was rush hour, the ordering system is annoying and you also need to pick up your own food and drinks. I was confused by the menu but the girl on duty helped and explain everything I need to know A+ for her product knowledge! Luckily we tried the wagyu 7+ and grilled salmon soba its amazingly tasty! Definitely coming back for dessert next time!!
A. M.
Was really excited but the rice was not dry enough and very average . With the price like this I would not go again
S. Z.
What initially attracted our visit was the myriad of postings on Instagram. We were left with a good experience but felt like the value for money would deter us from coming back. The food was subpar given the price (
$13 - $25, on average for a main dish) and the quantity was disappointing.
Reading the other reviews, there seems to be dissatisfaction with the service and ordering time. On our visit, the food did come in a timely manner and we found the self-service to be a large part that shaped our unique experience.
65/100
K. N.
very delicious meal - i recommend the matcha bingsoo 😍
C.
Delicious ox tongue don with shallots. Love the seaweed crisps. Yuzu green tea was lovely and fresh.
J. G.
Neat place with excellent quality don, friendly staff and reasonable price. Would visit again and recommend for casual gathering and eat out.
J. Y.
I went here with my friend today and the food was so good and filling. I love presentation of the food! Even though my miso soup got cold quickly I still enjoyed the food overall. Will come back again!
M. N.
Fairly average quality and quantity. For the prices it’s not worth it! Mainly a touristy place for high cal desserts, which gives it a fairly busy/popular feel on high foot fall location.... however not a place for authentic high quality dishes.
ま.
A little bit expensive for the potion of meat but I love the wagyu bowl. Also I recommend katsu don, curry, dessert and drinks from here. Other food average.
R. G.
Great service, food always tastes great, interior is stylish
D. D.
Great, tasty Don. The price on the high side but quality is certainly up there.
A. M.
Dishes are on the pricey side, portions are small-ish.
A bit of a hit and miss - by that I mean one time the pork katsu tasted great and was satisfying, next time I choose it again it was very salty and tough.
J. W.
A little on the expensive side ~$90 for three people with gyoza. Having said that, the food is tasty and fresh - staff are friendly and it’s a nice atmosphere. Easy quick dinner if you’re in DQ.
A. W.
Wagyu donburi and cheeseburger donburi were both delicious. Perfectly cooked and seasoned. Nice condiments available too. Am excited to go back!
W. T.
The price is a little bit on the premium side, but I had a decent donburi here. Just a minor thing, but I find the Sunday charge ($2) a bit ridiculous as it caught me off guard. Overall, it's pretty good and I wouldn't mind coming back occasionally.
J.
Had the curry pork katsu don and it was tasty. My partner bad the cheeseburger and was not his fav. Also ordered the green tea shake and it was awesome!
w. e.
food is good...however the wagyu don is oily but not sure if it is the cooking method or the meat. ordering is a little confusing and inefficient as there is only one ‘screen’ to self-order and it can take a long time. also, why do you have to ‘reserve’ a table?? i’m not leaving my valuables unattended
D. R.
Was sitting right in front of kitchen. Was so impressed by the command and leadership the headchef was showing. Everything was so organised , fast and clean. And he was always happy, and talking with customers.
Food was tasty. Nicely priced. Many options for desert.
K. N.
Super friendly staff, quality ingredients and delicious rice bowls, desserts, coffee and tea. Stayed here to work most of the day and staff were very attentive and welcoming about it. There’s only one table with an electrical outlet (to charge a laptop, phone, etc) if you plan to spend a few hours there. Great atmosphere and solid menu. Would definitely come here again.
S. S.
i don't know what all the hype is for.. :(
tried the wagyu don & miso salmon and scrambled egg don.
wagyu don doesn't really have enough flavour, and the quality of the meat is so so even though we ordered the highest grade. miso salmon is okay, but scrambled egg is toooo average.
C. H.
Lots of good menu choices, had the wagyu beef don and it was delicious and comforting. Already on the pricey side and there is also a surcharge on Sundays which brings it up even more.
J. C. (.
Honestly, such good value. Amazing food and experience.
K. P.
Food court vibe (get your own utensils, water, order at the counter, pick up at counter). The food is good but very pricey for small portions. I went for the truffle menu that they left on every table and on the sign in sheet, went to order and they had no truffle at all. I don't understand why they don't remove the small laminated sheet of only truffle items from the menus for the day, wasted time waiting then deciding and then not being able to order, at least tell us that there is no truffle when we arrive and are being greeted.
A.
Nice staff and good food, but minus one star for being way too overpriced. Paid $27 for a wagyu bowel set (5 slices of beef) and a can of coke T_T. Try it at least once though.
S.
Tried their wagyu don, it's really nice. However, their service is a bit poor. I don't mind self service, but somehow the staff does feel welcoming.
E. H.
Plenty of choice if you are a fan of matcha. The profiterole was so good, but it might be a bit messy when you eat it.
J. W.
Delicious wagyu Don's everytime I come here. You get the choice of your grade of Wagyu and it is a very delicious rice don.
S. H.
You guys should try the mochi!!! Its very tasty too!
b. h.
Quick, Yummy and Good Price! My chicken was cooked perfectly for the chicken don, and can't wait to try more dishes :-)
H. D.
Sorry, food was alright, Matcha cake was terrible & service was average. Staff should have more training. Kitchen staff were making fun of each other ......
S. S.
Great selection of food and the service was fantastic. However, the quality was mediocre and I would not recommend including $5 for a set menu.
T. R.
Ordered takeaway and attached photos are of takeaway food back in the hotel room. Helpful staff. Looked popular - good crowd on Tuesday night. I ordered salmon sashimi, and a pork katsu. Salmon smelled a little fishy and tasted a little slimey - it was not overly pleasant (no ill effects, though). Pork katsu was excellent! Good flavours, and textures. The scrambled egg was perfection. I would go back, ordering cooked food.
h. h.
I was disappointed at this place. I came with an expectation of japanese rice and high standard ingrediants based on their rating and price. From the photo you can see the vegies are so not fresh both the salad and the sides. Did they prepared those vegie last week? Unagi was a small pieces. Will not come back to this place.
F. L.
Tried out this place since the food was visually appealing on social media but was let down. Most ingredients are locally sourced which is quite nice but I cannot justify the $18-$25 prices on the portion sizes here. Wagyu from the don was a bit dry and beef tongue portions from the beef tongue don were minimal. The place runs by a pay first and retrieve at counter system. Also seems to be a few off the menu items such as foie gras, steak and uni that were not listed on the menu. Ordered a bolar blade assuming it was what was seen on some people's social medias but received thinly cut meat instead of steak. Just seems a bit unfair that people are missing out as these options are not advertised publicly on the official accounts.
Y. W. Y.
Had the ultimate V2 bowl. It was really really good!! However, at $35 , definitely a once in a while lunch, not a everyday lunch. Happy to pay the price though!! Definitely worth it!!
N. T.
If you are looking for great service and amazing matcha deserts - give this place a try!
N. S.
There's a range of Japanese dishes that don't disappoint. The food is a bit expensive for the portions though.
I really like the mentaiko salmon don, lots of flavour.
J. T.
Had lunch with some of my colleagues. I love the Grilled Salmon Don with set combo. It was delicious. The service was excellent. Will be back definitely!! ❤️
Y. S.
Fresh, flavoursome and huge portions. Perfect feed 👌🏼
A. K.
The staffs are friendly, the food is really good. The best karaage chicken I have ever tried. Love the dessert also, the parfait and the kakigori are so good. Worth the price ❤️❤️
L. L.
Loved everything about this place, the service at the counter with the buzzer was very efficient, the ingredients used were fresh and locally sourced, My favourite don was the toothfish that melted in my mouth. For dessert the strawberry kakigori and the Matcha profiteroles were to die for.
M. F.
service was good, was there for dessert, love the frozen n matcha bingsu.. no restroom inside tho... will try dinner there one day, 美味しいそう
T. L. G. N.
Very nice food, Gyoza 🥟 was really nice 👍
S. N. K.
Portions are small
They play no background music
A. V.
Little pricey for what it is but very good service.
M. R.
Very tasty and a good price point. No reservations and limited seating so would recommend arriving early to ensure you get a seat.
Y. C.
Tasty Japanese food and dessert.
D.
Decent Don's. Would come again. A we bit pricier. But worth it.
O. T.
Well reasonable price food and with that have a wide variety of food options. Overall great quality food and would highly recommend going there!!
J. S.
Just delicious. Tenderly cooked beef, just right amount of sauce and seasoning on top very well cooked short grain rice. Just the way Donburis are meant to be. Must try.
A. D.
Easy to order and generous portions.
b.
Fantastic food, must have the seaweed salad
E. T.
The kakigori here is phenomenal. A cure for hot days. The rice bowl dishes are good too. Have a bowl of rice here then indulge in their desserts!
O. C.
Absolutely delicious, a fast efficient Japanese restaurant that wouldn’t feel out of place in Tokyo.
S. M. W. (.
Very delicious beef tongue don
M. C.
The food is simple, small set of topping on top of lots of rice. Not sure if it's worth it paying $22 On 2 slice of beef on rice.. but some ppl might dig it.
B. B.
So so good!!! Lovely food and desserts
J. D.
Food was tasty however my sashimi didn't seem very fresh.

It was an exquisite experience to taste all the wonderful food at dopa. One of the items I liked best was the dopa shake, whilst the other dishes were also great.
R. M.
Wow to the teriyaki beef. Can't wait to return.
2.
Very tasty dishes however your meal can get pricey, the Wagyu, Tongue and Foie Gras Don was $35
L. J.
Nice atmosphere, and nice presentation. Food is good, but not spectacular. Love the open kitchen. Would go back for the vibe
S. K.
Went for late lunch. They had a dessert promotion at the time. The matcha toast was delicious.
S. L.
Wagyu don is good but teriyaki sauce are too sweet for me.
M. D. C.
Good food but portion size should be bigger for the pricepoint
H. B.
Delicious food that came ridiculously fast.
I just wish I was game enough to get one of the weird Don
L. H.
Black truffle ultimate don, it’s tasty 🤤🤤🤤

Great place and nice food and dessert. Just bare with the long time to get the meal.
f. d.
Its a good place to eat. Nice donburi and also the combination of the good is great.
K. T.
Good but shaved ice is way too sweet, matcha flavour
T. C.
Yummy rice bowls
A. J.
Not an authentic Japanese food place but nice to have a quick lunch here.
R. K.
Matcha pudding! The pudding texture is like mousse and the matcha aftertaste is string. Love it <3
T. T.
The best donburi - had this 3 times in two weeks. Wagyu and beef tongue are the best.
Y. D.
Food is overprice for their quality of food.
C. Z.
Delicious and high quality as always.
S. G.
Friendly service and food is yum!
J.
Good, so far I like the beef tongue the best
Unagi is quite good too
P. F.
Really good food and very professional chefs!!! HIGHLY RECOMMEND
M. L.
Great Japanese food. Portion is slightly on the smaller side.
J. C.
The wagyu don was cooked perfectly with great tasting wagyu. Not your typical cheap "Wagyu".
T. M.
The food is lil bit expensive but the taste was very good
S. L.
Food was just very average, don't understand why there's always a long que...
C. L.
so yummy in ma tummy :)
J. P.
The saltiest karage don I've ever eaten! I normally like salty food but this was even too salty for me. Not worth the price!!
V. N.
This place is delicious and the quantity of food is perfect. Will be back!
L. O.
Food was delicious and has a large variety of dishes at a reasonable price too

T. L.
Loved the food 😍 , definitely a must try 🤤
R. P.
The chicken curry rice is super tasty
M. T.
Easy place to get delicious Japanese dons (rice bowls) with good spacious and quiet seating inside. I got the teriyaki salmon don, which was very good, the salmon was cooked perfectly as it remained really juicy.
For a girl portion size, I would recommend not getting the set because just the bowl itself is very satisfying.
Dopa is always a to-go place for Japanese food in Haymarket. Very reasonable prices, pretty affordable. Dying to try out their dessert menu yet though!
E.
Good matcha dessert but long waiting.
H. T.
Cozy Japanese donburi and dessert joint. Love it!
M. T.
Tasty bowls and equally delicious desserts.

Food was average. A bit overpriced

Overpriced for its meal
C. M.
Delicious food
w.
Food is nice but portions too small, especially for the price.
m. n.
Honestly think this store is extremely overhyped. The food tasted good, but the portion size and price is extreme. The lack of service making everything self service from ordering to picking up food and getting water made the experience slightly lower for a store that is charging 18 dollars for a bowl of rice.
C. L.
Self service japanese restaurant. The portion is great. Food is delicious. Should have more self service order machines as the queue is quite long during weekend.
m. f.
Good value quick and delicious hot japanese meals. Good variety of drinks and dessert on offer. Always busy here. Don't be scared by the queues. It's a place for a quick meal. Tables turn around quite quickly so you won't have to wait long.
N. E.
This a favourite social lunch spot for our little office crew. They make it so easy to order and pay individually. If you can score an outside booth on a nice day it's wonderful! I love their vegetarian options.
V. R.
would like to give Fernando the cashier guy appreciation cs He is very helpful and understanding THANK YOU

(Translated) The other day, we visited together
Although it was crowded, I was able to sit in the outside seat smoothly.
However, we didn't give us the menu, so we decided the menu from the internet and ordered it by going to a machine like McDonald's or the counter.
I felt it was inconvenient because the orders were lined up quite a bit.
I was worried about ordering dessert after meals, but since it was a family restaurant in Japan, I couldn't get it all at once, so I ordered a Wagyu bowl set and a yaki salmon bowl set for the time being.
After ordering, I was given a machine that makes a sound, which is common in food courts, and when I got there, I felt like going to pick it up myself.
It might have been reassuring if it was inside the store, but the menu was not handed over at the outside seats, and if both of them went to order, even if there was a clerk outside, there is a possibility that the seats would be handed over to another person. I was worried.
So, one person went to order at once.
I went to the counter to order, and it seemed that the menu on the net was a little different from the regular menu, so I was having trouble ordering.
The taste was usually delicious, but this is especially delicious! It wasn't.
Lightly pickled, salad with mekabu, ordinary miso soup, rice bowl, lightly pickled, green onion, Korean paste, hot spring egg.
The other person I went with was hungry immediately after that, probably because he didn't have a habit of eating soft-boiled eggs.
If you are not good at it, you may want to say it when ordering, such as pulling it out.
The taste and price are not so bad, but the atmosphere of the restaurant was not so calm. I felt like coming to the food court and eating.
On the contrary, if the order format is like this, I think it would be better to have only one clerk for external use and let each person sit on their own.
The person I went with went to pick up the hood, but it seems that the cutlery is probably picked up by myself.
For some reason, the other person's bowl wasn't covered.
Volume may be sufficient or high for females, but less for men.
By the way, the drinks were served fairly quickly, but it took quite a while to serve the food in 15 to 20 minutes.
I visited in the evening when I was free.
I ordered a set meal of Atka mackerel, but I was more satisfied than salmon.
Because it was vacant, it was shorter than before and had more volume than salmon.
However, the atka mackerel was quite soft and the cells seemed dead, but the price was cheaper than salmon, and it was hard to get at a normal supermarket, so I think you can be satisfied.
When I asked him to wear a little more dressing, he responded kindly and politely.
I was much more satisfied than when I first went there.

(Translated) The food is delicious but the service is not good.
It's a restaurant with a cafe. You have to sit at the restaurant, look at the menu and go back to the other cafe to order it yourself. When the bell rings, you have to go get food yourself. Cutlery, water and tissues should be brought directly.
Surcharge on a red day, paying 10% more on Sunday. But the service is just a food court.

(Translated) It is worth visiting at least once
It was nice to be able to solve all the meals and desserts at once.
Donburi is available as a single item and a set
The set comes with a salad and a Tsugemono-style side dish, along with a miso soup, but the miso is delicious, but I'm not sure it's worth the $5 price added to the set.
In the case of shaved ice eaten for dessert,
It wasn't too bad or bad
Still, it's worth listening to while thinking about what to eat around you
