Comments of Forrester's

Well-located venue, staff were friendly and interiors are nice and modern with some spaces outside as well. We were unfortunately sat just underneath the speakers and it was very loud. The drinks selection was decent, pricing as expected. The food was a real letdown though. Pictured is the fish & chips, the most pathetic serve of fish I've ever been given under that title - and that's saying a lot. These two tiny fillets were less than 1cm thick, and tasted only of cheap crumbing. The battered frozen fish fillets from Aldi are better, and more generous, than this. The fries were lovely though.

Great place for food and drinks. Highly recommend the Big Yorkie, one of the best roasts in Sydney 😍 Super friendly staff, good value, and love that it’s dog friendly.

Came here around 6pm for early dinner.
Monday is $10 steak day.
I would say 200 gram ( more or less ) rump cut steak, cook to your liking, with some green and chips.
$3 for extra peppercorn or gravy sauce.
Unfortunately my chips are cold, and my pepper sauce way to runny to be call sauce.
There are no viscosity, and lack of punch/heat from pepper it self.
For the steak it self, I can’t complaint! Good enough for the price that I’m paying.
Happy Hour also happening, charging $5 for schooner of furphy pale ale.

Good atmosphere. Arrived at 645pm on a Thursday, was able to be sat in the bar area. Sydney Swans AFL game started at 720pm. Bar mostly cleared out by 7pm with people leaving to go to the game. Had to ask bar staff to put the game commentary/sound on as they continued to play music after the game had started. The Sydney Swans verify this venue as a Premium
Swans venue.
Food
Ordered the $1 wings. They are crispy, good sauce. Rueben was tasty with a good serving side of chips. Food was good for the bar section.
Halfway through the game they told us that they were turning the music back on in the main bar area but would out commentary on in another section so we had to move there.
Not a great vibe for watching the footy, for a Swans recommended venue I was a little disappointed.

Ate at Phyllies for lunch and holy moly! We had the beet salad, charred corn and the cauliflower - beautiful flavours and incredible delicious dishes. Also a stunning interior with gorgeous staff. Definitely coming back 😄

Forrester’s is a great local hotel in Surry Hills, having been in the area since 1921, although the new renovations have been completed just a year ago in 2020.
Whilst the building retains its old school charm, and inside the structures are the same but with updated and refreshed interiors. A stunning pastel colour palette for its wooden tones, the pub certainly has a lovely aesthetic. It is dimly lit inside making it feel intimate.
We have tried to go a few times before but it’s pretty busy on weekends, so we visited late one Thursday night, securing a table easily.
Head Chef of Forrester’s is Jon Barrios has developed a quality pub menu with American influence and food designed to share. We ordered the Free-Range Half Chicken, which was incredibly tasty, the chicken moist inside, roasted in lemon, chilli & oregano, w/yoghurt.
We also enjoyed a Char-Grilled Wagyu Rump Steak with Forry’s butter 300g and a side of of the amazing crinkle cut fries. Honestly would return for fries alone!
Take your fancy of the menu, whether it be barramundi, salad, a burger or even just some wings or empanadas, you’ll find something to suit your fancy. Our only criticism is that despite the meals being amazing, they are quite expensive for pub food.
As it is a pub, it’s hardly surprising they’ve got a great range of drinks. With an extensive selection of beers on tap, wines and cocktails, the pub is great for a catch up over drinks with friends.
The service was extremely welcoming and friendly and the food also came efficiently. We also liked the bistro did table service for both food and drinks.
C. A.
Friendly check in staff and bar staff. They have happy hour on a Friday night which is nice - $5 beers. Menu a little on the pricier side however burgers and sides we had were yummy. Would add an extra star if i could as they allow Dogs to come in too!
A. A.
Great food fun atmosphere. The Yorkie is sensational
G. R.
Great bar, lovely atmosphere and drinks are reasonably priced! The bouncer Andre from Chief Group Services made us feel really safe as women in the venue and was really lovely, we came from out of town and stumbled upon this venue and can't recommend it enough!
P.
The roast is as good as it looks! Nice atmosphere too
W. N.
Cool pub and decent pub services. The grilled chicken burger with American style deep fried bacon with batterie fries are worth trying but their steak was small and overcooked. It’s medium well when we order medium rare. Terrace was spacious and quite lively even on week night.
G. G.
Great service last night. They were really busy and the kitchen clearly got a lot of orders at once. The bar man (didn't get his name) handled it really well and went out of his way to make sure we were happy . Thanks !
A. N.
Really great $10 steak night.
Delish
Lovely staff..
I used to go to the Foresters in the 90s for a$5.00 steak.
K. C.
There's nothing better to do on a Sunday than people watch dudes going into a brothel from across the road. It used to be at a bar as seedy as said establishment but no more. The refurb at the new Forresters felt really upmarket.
The wooden finishings, the plants really made it inviting. Now I didn't eat any food but my amigos did order some burgs and wings while watching johns file in and out across the road.
By all accounts the food was nice. The fish burg needed more tang and the cheese burg was pretty epic. Portion sizes were great. They overshot with the wings. But whatever.
The staff were very attentive and nice so high fives all around.
E. S.
Came in for trivia which was great fun. Host was friendly and interactive. Food was great - I ordered the animal schnitzel and it was all kinds of delicious. Decor was very cool with all kinds of kitsch amalgamated with retro charm. Staff were a little curt but understandable given that it was quite busy. Overall, it was a great night and I'll visit again for that meal!
R. M.
One of the better pubs in Surry Hills. Loads of seating and really friendly staff make it a great place to go for a drink with mates or even to just go and watch some sports. Food is decently priced for the portion size and the happy hour is quite generous. If you're in the area and looking for a dive bar/pub this is your place.
R. V.
Once the bar of the year but now just a shell of what it used to be. The bar is full of trinkets, old neons and alcohol memorabilia with a friendly staff. Great place to grab and drink and grub before a Sydney FC game as it’s a short walk away. The wings are super greasy, beware!
C. M.
I had a steak cooked medium, chips and salad. Tasted divine!! Also had a cold beer and a glass of red wine. Excellent! Outstanding customer service! 5 stars all around. Keep up the good work!!!
A. M.
Beautiful venue, really good staff. Menu was overpriced. But the live music made it worth the trip.
B. S.
The staff were amazing! The woman on the front was particularly helpful! Great roast dinner too! Would highly recommend
J. S.
Walked past the place and popped in for a quick bite and a drink.
Ended up having a few share plates and was not disappointed! Had the prawns, beef cheek empanadas, chicken wings and tacos. All was fresh and very very tasty. Great service too!
Would happily recommend for a drink and food if in the area
R. S.
Really amazing pub, great energy and the staff were so friendly and accomodating for our Christmas party!
C. H.
Loads better since the makeover. Great burgers, good range of beers, nice staff and brilliant cocktails with really clear ice.
B. B.
Nice new set up, great atmosphere with plenty of nook's and crannies to catch up with friends. Table servers were attentive but the door attendant was surly and aloof. Usual stupid Covid rules for check in. So be prepared. Pricey too.
B. K.
Good old pub in Surry Hills that serves up good eats and drinks. Comedy night is alright as well!
W. M.
Staff are the best part. They know their clients and locals. Great beer selection and food is way better then pub should have. Highly worth it. Great for events and phenomenal specials. Shout out to Cam for being a proper legend.
J. C.
It looks like they have recently done it up inside and it looks and feels great.
I ordered the steak and was blown away. I know PUB food is getting better in Sydney, but Forresters blows it away. It was beautiful.
Will definitely be back soon.
R. M.
We had a great girl's night out here on the weekend. The new restaurant has great food and fabulous, friendly service throughout the bar and restaurant. The chicken wings, guacamole, corn, barramundi and waygu were particularly excellent. We also needed to change the table we were initially allocated due to it being too high for our friend who is in a wheelchair and the staff and management rearranged tables and moved other diners to accommodate us which was really lovely and helpful - thank you! The wine list could have a few more options on it, but that's the only minor negative of our night. We'll definitely be back.
J. W.
This place changes so much it's hard to keep up! Good food, nice atmosphere but the layout near the bar makes it a pain to get served when it's busy (pesky column!). During the day it is a relaxed, comfortable atmosphere. At night it is lively and fun.
M. H.
The bar has been nicely renovated and the service from the staff was really good however the food just wasn't that tasty. Everything was cooked well but it was missing flavour and finishing. For example the lamb shoulder was cooked perfectly but you get just that and a few half-warmed tortilla and no sauce or anything to go with it. The guacamole was similarly flat. We ordered a number of dishes from the menu and not one really stood out as being anything special
A. S.
Food is good; lots of flavour, good sized serves and a good variety. Drinks are also nice but a touch expensive in the restaurant. If you're after a gastro pub this is a good option in Surry Hills.
L. M.
There was nice comfort American food served though I have to say the noodles in the mac n cheese were pretty over cooked. The interior is interesting and sports are playing on the TV's if that interests you. Worth popping in for a cold cider on a hot day!
J. D.
The service here is 10 out of 10. I've been twice only, and both times it was fantastic. Just ordered my regular drink of Jack Daniel's and coke, which is also the only thing I have had during my visits here, and the staff are the best, and remembered my order immediately. I highly recommend coming here for sure
C. G.
Nice space but the food was very disappointing. The salmon ceviche was just tiny pieces of an average smoke salmon and the tomato heirloom salad was just a few tomato cut in big chunks, they had no taste as they were not ripped and very hard. they had no seasoning, the whole thing had no taste at all. I am sure this place could do better.
G. W.
Toilet was 4 star could've been n cleaner had wet floors
K. J.
Very nice. Yummy food! Awesome view from our table.
p. w.
Had a lovely meal amid the cool restaurant revamp with excellent service tonight, the roast chicken and sirloin done to perfection. However, quite taken aback by glaring gaps in the food and drinks menu: no green vegetables, no desserts, no Baileys and the ultimate sin, no shiraz by the glass in an Australian pub...just saying...
m. p.
If you are looking to host a private function, this is definitely the place to hold it! The team at Forrester's were so accommodating and flexible to all my requests. I had Natasha as the event manager and the staff (Ed & Dion) on the day were an absolute delight.
The day could not have gone smoother.
Special thank you to Natasha, Ed & Dion!

Really impressed with Phylli's restaurant considering its a little bit fancier than your pub lunch. Fish, meat and eggs all sustainably sourced and food both beautifully presented and tasty. Went for a farewell lunch for a colleague, but seriously consider for friends catch up, they have a bottomless brunch I believe for $80pp. Definately recommend.
R. G.
Very nice vibe. Not pretentious. Good grub and friendly staff.
A. K.
A group of almost 20 of us did the bottomless lunch at Phylli's in Forrester's for my birthday. The new renovated space is lovely and has a great atmosphere with all the hanging plants. The staff were very friendly and were able to accommodate everyone's dietary requirements with ease. The food was delicious despite perhaps being slightly small portions, and the bottomless rose was very generous!! We had a great time and would recommend :)
C. S.
Great beer garden setting and good menu. Very family friendly and a great local pub, lots if people gold events and birthdays here and it's easy to see why.
S. C.
Food was nice, drinks were good, but no breads on the menu as a on tray, i thought thats a bit different, and at the end asked for coffee and they said they don't do coffee's, as my son booked for dinner for his 30th bday, but we did enjoy, cheers Sheryl
S. K.
This was such a relaxed (but chic!) vibe for a friday night session, could easily talk to each other unlike other crowded surry Hills places. Huge portions and great food! Really nice space with plenty of plants and good vibes. Friendly and lovely wait staff. Such a great spot good on ya guys!
T. H.
10/ 10 service, the bartenders are amazing, friendly and really helpful. Excellent service every time I come. Amazing specials every day of the week. Definitely recommend coming on a Thursday: buy a jug of beer that can fill 4 skooners and then get up to 30 10c wings. That's only 18 dollars for essentially 4 drinks and dinner. They've got great music, love my atmosphere, and even better drinks. This is my favourite place to go, and after you do so, it'll be your favourite too. À
J. F.
Alright meal. Good for a.drink, convenient location.
M. M.
Not very fund of the atmosphere but the pizza is nice.
V. K.
It's rare to find a place where time goes past without noticing. Great vibe. The staff here are super friendly, and the beer is super cold. Win.
M. E. G. Q.
Very nice ambience! Beer is good and the food delicious. I've been there for trivia nights, for birthdays or just casual nights after the footy. I really liked the parmigiana schnitzel. Definitely one of my favourite place and I use to live only 2 blocks from it, it was brilliant.
A. G.
A nice pub with a good selection of drinks. Staff are very friendly and service is on time. Prices are regular bar prices, but take advantage of the happy hour specials. Location is close to transport.
Great lunch specials for food with a menu that caters to all.
K. J.
Was here on Saturday night with a group of 12 people
Atmosphere was awesome
Food was amazing and priced really well - 1 Pizza, 1 burger with chips and 1 mixer drink was like $45? Awesome !
Downside - toilets were disgusting. Girls from our group said the female toilets was also really bad :(
A. O.
Great pub, lots of areas to hangout, recent had a really funky Reno and looks amazing! Great happy hour 4-6pm! 😁
E. G.
Really nice pub with a great atmosphere for afternoon drinks & food. Nice wines and Guinness on tap👌🏻
S. C.
The Applejack guys have done an amazing job with the space. Have been twice since it reopened and the service was spot on both time, food delish and a great bev menu! Will definitely be back!
L. M.
Dined in the restaurant today with a group of mates. Nice reno, tasty food, great drinks list & super friendly staff. Loved it & will be back again!
J. Y. (.
great
M. J.
Great pub in Surry Hills to grab a burger and a beer before the footy. Lots of seating space indoors and outdoors.
G. K.
Cheap and sizable weekday lunch specials are good go to meals. Quality isn't all that bad either.
W. P.
Relaxed vibe. Good value for money for drinks and food. Steak, parmy and fish&chips for our group. Friendly bar staff and great place to hang - we booked a table through The Fork for after the footy and I’m glad we did. All worked out well. Would go again.
M. P.
Top notch grub and some great beers on tap. Friendly staff and and awesome new reno make this place a winner. Will be back.
J. M.
Food is fairly good although haven't had great experiences with their pizzas - the
toppings are a bit sparse. Tonight we had a booking for our table but got there to be told by staff to find our table ourselves and that it had a bit of paper on it. Searched the area and couldn't find the table or paper. Staff were no help and just said to find somewhere else. People at another table said they saw some guys ripping up the reservation papers on a table earlier. So quite disappointed in the couldn't give a toss attitude of the staff when we took the time to book.
H. R.
Love the renovation. Gives the place a fresh and vibrant new look and feel. Can 100% recommend the fish sandwich. So delicious!
D.
Had an awesome time here last Saturday for my birthday. I was really happy with The Verandah area that was booked for 25 of us. It was spacious, had heaps of seats and was right next to the main bar. The drinks and food were good and the service was quick and friendly. Thanks for the great time!
J. P.
Did the bottomless brunch which was certainly bottomless in terms of rosé. The food was very tasty but quantities small especially for the amount of drinking involved!
A. A.
Great place to catch up with friends. It has a really nice pub/bar vibe and is really good when it is nice and busy. There are times it gets really quiet however. They have a nice Jamaican restaurant up the stairs which I also recommend! The forresters also make good cocktails which is standard cocktail prices in Sydney.
A. D.
Couldn't recommend this place more! Not only for the pub, the great food and the drinks but also for the function side of things. Alex was brilliant when I was organising my birthday and able to answer all of my questions. Rob and Cal were bloody excellent behind the bar. All in all three stellar blokes made my birthday go off without a hitch! So thank you guys and cheers.
J. C.
We had a "surprise" event upstairs and everything about it was perfection; from the reservation process with the Laura, to the management liaison with Alex throughout, to the bar tenders and security staff on the evening - it was simply marvelous! We couldn't have asked for more - great venue, great service, great offering. Thank you Forresters!!!
A. B.
Food is delicious and the staff are friendly and attentive. Highly recommend for dinner and drinks in a relaxed setting.
A. B. Y.
This feels like one of the true American/fusion burger joints in the city. Their menu is basic but arguably that’s what makes this place so quintessential. I’ll generally go for their burgers, probably the fried chicken with a side of fries and a beer. The Forresters can get quite busy though, creating crazy wait times and means you have to either fight for a seat or just stand. The disappointing part of this venue is that they cripple under critical mass of their own popularity.
M. B.
Yeah... good pub, nice setting, leafy decor, good crowd and friendly staff
H. F.
This corner pub is vast, and was packed out downstairs as we arrived early on a Saturday evening. We headed upstairs for their "Sit Down Dinners", and weren't disappointed. Service was really very good, and the Italian (almost Italian American) menu of pizza, pasta and rotisserie gave plenty of options. The special entree of beef cheek tortellini with a burnt butter sauce was very very good. Pizzas, rabbit risotto and crumbed cauliflower were decent too, and excellent value for the price. Plus they take reservations upstairs.
D. S.
Solid local pub. Not that big so can get crowded after a football/cricket match. Excellent selection of beers on tap and the food is above average for this sort of place. Only negative is the way they close the semi-outdoor area reasonably early (obviously to do with their licence, so cant really fault them on this) however it moves everyone into the main bar area which causes mayhem.
T. B.
Really like the revamped space! The staff are super friendly and the new food and drinks menu is great. Looking forward to another visit.
S. C.
Good casual pub, perfect for watching the footy.
The food is consistent, and pub classics (burgers, wings etc.) are good.
There are also a lot of separate areas throughout the pub, so it’s always easy to find a table.
T. K.
I've never seen this place quiet. Once dinner time hits, it's always pumping, and filled to the absolute brim with patrons.
The food has always been good, and great value for money. It can get extremely noisy, so it's not really where you'd go to catch up with friends that you haven't seen for a while.
The system is such that you order everything at the bar, so you can be fighting for attention with people who are ordering drinks, but in my experience, the bartenders are pretty good at getting around to everyone, and the food is always speedy and consistent.
And hey, if you can't get a table - and it can get that way during peak periods like Friday and Saturday nights - you can always go to Queenies upstairs. Two for one venue!
R. M.
The food is awesome and I come here regularly for lunch. The chicken schnitzel is my favourite, but they've recently changed to skinny shoestring fries instead of the delicious chunky crinkle cut fries they used to have - whyyyy?! The shoestring fries are always overcooked and dry and too crunchy. Bring back the crinkle cut fries!!
T. W.
It's a great place to hang out with your mates and munch on some delicious good quality pub food. Their $10 lunch menu is unbeatable, but if you miss that, the regular menu won't break your bank. I adore their stuffed peppers, or known as "poppers", I can just see myself sitting there with a basket of them and a beer on a Sunday afternoon.
W. F. E.
Apparently Forresters is known for it's $5 steaks on Mondays which I'll have to go back to check out but on this particular instance I had a few pub classics of calamari, nachos and to satisfy any guilt- - some vegetables.
Overall, the food was nice and portions were fair. I wasn't a fan of the sauces or the cauliflower. I thought there was a significant amount of garlic on the green vegetables which may heavily affect your breath. I don't have anything too spectacular to say about the other food but I thought it was decent.
Prices: About 20-25 per person
g. m.
Great to see it open again. Service was great, staff very friendly. Good selection of wines and beers.
R. W.
Great time at the Forresters. Love the new decor. Great service, wonderful food. Half chicken was amazing and well worth a trip.
H. K. N.
Warm and cosy decor. Staff are super friendly and down to earth. Plenty of seating options and food is acceptable, especially so when you hit up their Monday steak night. They have a decent amount of microbrew beers and a good range of tinnies.
S. W.
Upstairs bar is lovely and is a really nice spot to sit out front.
Doesn't have the best range of beers but has delicious food.
There are times it gets really quiet however.
C. M.
Laid back pub vibe, very large facility. Food is ok, trivia is good. Usually with big groups and lots of teams, reserve your spot if you wish to play (or be wary of bagging a seat early if you're there for dinner on Tuesdays)
S. G.
Great night at the newly renovated Forresters - Super friendly staff willing to serve with a smile and the food in the public bar was good - great Fish and Chips and Steak
T. L.
Well priced and tasty pub food with vegan and vegetarian options. Cool pub atmosphere, seating inside and out. Pretty large space. Friendly staff.
L. D.
Was in a private area upstairs for a party: great friendly service ; good food . Very good location close to station as well.
M. M.
So happy this place has opened again they did an amazing job at refurbishment and now it's a great place to have a Sunday session..... Great food great atmosphere and awesome pricing this is the best pub in Surry Hills
A. M.
A great place to go to chill with mates while watching the many types of sports they display on their TV's. Their chicken schnitzel is undoubtedly one of the best I have ever tasted. I had a minor issue when they lost my order for a pizza but that was easily resolved.
G. D. (. F.
Beautiful renovated, excellent tap options, food to now i dont have tried and the serving team incredible friendly and with proper personality
b. m.
Called in after being at the races(midweek),being from the "Bush"asked the cabbie where to go for beer/snack,dropped us off right out the front!! Staff were very happy, helpful, pizza on special we had was a winner as well, good selection of beer's as well!! Definitely be back again!!
N. M.
Great trendy spot in Surry, whether you're a local hipster or an average Joe looking for a cold drink, with a great outdoor area out the back.
The food can be hit or miss however. The pizzas are good, and the roast is good (when it's actually hot), but it really is the luck of the draw on occasion.
T. B. G.
The Forresters is a local neighborhood hangout with a lively patio, a fun crowd, and great food. The cheeseburger is amongst the most popular items and features cheddar, pickles, onion rings, mustard, mayo, and a sesame bun. The burger is tender, flavorful, and has a good mouthwatering effect. A grilled bun, melted cheese, and the fried onion rings are the stand out ingredients. The beef is a bit dry but not enough to take much away from the burger. A side of quite tasty parmesan fries is also included with the burger. While it’s not the best in Sydney; the Forresters fun atmosphere and solid burger make it worth a visit.
A. D.
Great service and amazing steak.
A. T.
More expensive than the decor would let you believe but within the acceptable limits of pub food in the inner city. Every meat dish I've tried here has been succulent, and I highly recommend meatlovers eschew any price reservations for a taste. Good selection of booze, especially the choice of Monteith as the house cider.
Daily food & beverage specials keep me interested in returning.
S. E.
Delicious! Thanks. Very accommodating when we were pressed for time going to the Swans game.
A.
Went for the bottomless rosè lunch - the venue is beautiful, the staff fantastic, food delicious and the rosè really was bottomless. Will definitely be back!
L. L.
Solid pub that always seems busy somehow... Finding a decent table is difficult, the grub is good and the craft beer selection is minimal. Good if your in the area but not worth making an occassion for it.
A. A.
Wonderful service by a lovely gentleman, who really knew his alcohol, specially the good whiskey. Had a fantastic time with all my colleagues, definitely making it our new local!!
W. B.
It's extremely loud in here for some reason...everything else was great. But our group could hardly hear the conversation that soon turned to shouting.
T. N.
The place can feel like a maze, there are 2 levels for people to drink, eat and be very merry. The food is unique eg corn with butter and coconut. Everything was delicious. The toilets upstairs are unisex. So don't be afraid when coming out of a cubicle and you see the opposite sex there waiting in line or washing their hands.
M. B.
We usually come here for trivia night. The schnitzels are great nice drinks selection and super happy and freindly staff! Love going there.
S. L.
Good variety of bistro options. I like how there are many seating arrangements to suit groups of any size. Drinks were reasonably priced
K. T.
Queenie's at the Forresters: Cool joint, lots of nooks and cranies, great vibe. Recommend the JERK PORK BURGER but Pushcart Chicken Wings, err.. no.
First things first, the burger was awesome. Fresh, crunchy and juicy at the same time, served with what felt like an entire sweet potato worth of fries. We washed this down with $10 cocktails (sugar mama was ginger beer with kick, dirty riddim was like a punchy sangria). Good stuff.
This helped ease the pain from ordering the Pushcart Chicken Wings and Fried Plantain. The former was 5 tiny (seriously) drummettes and the latter was dry cardboardy banana. Wings were tasty but at $14 for the dish compared to $18 for the burger, I really don't understand why anyone would order it, well, except if they don't know what they would be getting. Completely overpriced.
Overall experience was good and I would go back again but would choose other dishes from their interesting menu. Might do the burger again though.
N. L.
Large pub with multiple sections and good selection of spirits. Has an American dinner inspired menu tested by a real New Yorker for its authenticity - it performed well! Queenies the carribean restaurant in on the first floor of that pub. Bottle shop also attached for a buy and run.

With a great range of beer on tap and a friendly, social atmosphere; The Forresters isn't your ordinary sports bar.
Kick back with a schooner and a 'Parmageddon' and watch the world go by, or share a pizza with friends and watch the footy. Either way, this place is a must-see if you've got a hunger, thirst or both.
C. L.
Cool bar with eclectic décor, good atmosphere and the staff are fun and helpful. A large group of us did a cocktail making class here during the day and the barman was informative, helpful and entertaining.

Good spot in surry for a few beers after a day in the office. The outdoor patio perfect for good weather. $10 pizzas on Wednesdays can't go wrong..the Hawaiian is delicious. Delicious with chili oil and washed down with a Kosciuszko beer.
K. T.
Friendly vibe in a newly refurbished venue. Reasonable selection of drinks and food available.

There is something to be said about those guys. You know, the ones that renovated The Flinders, that brought life to The Norfolk, that made The Carrington a foodie destination and that transformed The Abercrombie into more than just a student hangout. And that something, well, it’s usually a good something. The Forresters as the new kid on the block is hardly an exception.
The Forresters was never a bad pub. Pre-makeover the $5 steaks were a winner and you’d be pleased if it were your local. Somehow though, it just never had that X factor that Sydney seems to now demand. The makeover adds the pizazz that was missing and lo and behold you’re waiting 10 minutes to get a drink. But that’s a bit harsh.
A lot of thought has gone into the menu. Sure you have your regular pub grub like pizzas, steak and fish, but this comes from a kitchen of chefs not cooks. The food hasn’t been compromised in order to fit into a pub price tag. A quick warning though - the thin crust hot salami pizza will have you sweating like a nun in a field of cucumbers.
The rotisserie is another nice touch: each day a different type of meat is served up with Italian slaw and potatoes and it really feels like a home-cooked meal. Could it be that this public house is living up to its origins? A home away from home? The cured kingfish and balsamic ribs might beg to differ but that doesn’t take anything away from their deliciousness nor the laid back atmosphere of the place.
Wooden bench tops, corrugated iron chandeliers and an outdoor seating area along Riley Street that seems to be designed for making new acquaintances means the place doesn’t get old quickly. A quaint restaurant upstairs (serving the same food) keeps the non-minglers happy and is a bit quieter.
While it may seem like just the latest good thing on the social calendar doomed to be dormant in 6 months time, somehow I don’t think this will be the case. Each of the pubs made fresh by James Wirth and James Miller appear destined to stay popular drinking holes like they once were in years gone past. Best to drop by Incu for some new threads before you show up though.

Right in the heart of surry hills, a good little bar with lots of usual unique decoration. sells some cool boutique beers all at a great price. The food is served in big portions, also at a good price. just one of those bars thats great to spend an afternoon and suddenly realise its gone dark.
H. S.
Popped in for a little lunch and had a yummy burger for 12 bucks...cant go wrong also the BAF tap for a fiver! Yum nice spot too chilled out :)
D. H.
Went on a Monday night for the $5 steak. Steak itself was pretty good and came with chips and gravy. Was told you have to buy a drink to get this offer.
V. B.
Great local pub. On a weekend there is good crowd but can get hard to find a table for food or to sit with a group. Good selection of beer on tap and food is a good take on the classics .
N. S.
The Forrester's was part of a pub crawl list of pubs organised for my mates bucks night. The drinks variety, and the food were fantastic. The stake and hotdogs challenge wall of fame is on my to do list for next time. Not to be missed!
L. C.
Pretty low key Surry Hills pub that doesn't seem to get to get crazy busy like others, booth style seating which is good for small groups. The pizza and burgers are pretty good.
R. K.
The Foresters Is One for the working class with great value for money of it's own.
Signature Fare with Great Australian Cuisine of various Standard Dishes ( The Steak , that Started as The Home of $5 Steak and Fish & Chips with Affordable
Pricing and Pleasant Service.
Service is great, although it's packed capacity, there is always a room for Everyone.
There is plenty of Ample Parking and is close to public transport.
There is Wide range of Beverage and Cocktails on the menu.
Decor is quite Village feel with lot of greenery and waterfall features and special floor levels to accommodate party functions and Birthday Events.

I passed by on a Friday evening when the 'after work' crowd were still around and it seemed busy and worth a visit. Fast forward to Saturday night and it was very underwhelming. The place smelled a little bit like raw sewage too, which was off putting.
M. D.
Love the new fitout & the fish burger was fantastic! Staff were also very friendly & helpful!!
J. S.
Not bad food, good atmosphere, great trivia. Make sure you book a table for trivia. Need a little more bar staff
S. K.
Came here on a Tuesday night for dinner and quiz. Had a good time but felt the place was a bit dirty, the toilets in particular need a re vamp.
J. P.
Went there a few years ago and it wasn't much chop. Now they have an American-style menu with $10 meals at lunch. Definitely check it out if you're in the area!
J. H.
Food came out quickly and tasted great.
C. W.
Enjoyed a Sunday afternoon here, with good food, friendly staff and excellent cocktails. Loved the outdoor/indoor seating area (although not impressed that the smokers took over!).
J. M.
Went there for free Tuesday stand-up comedy show, very friendly and helping staff, had fun at comedy show. Will be going there again for sure.
a. s.
Caution the peri-peri chicken burger is dangerous spicy 🌶 👍 however, I could go another one!
Good selection of beer and great Sunday arvo hangout spot
L. R.
This is a review for the White Trash sandwich more than venue so beware. I think I'm in love. Meatloaf, egg, pickles and gravy.... Welcome to heaven, thank you Forresters
H. C.
Great food, great value, everything you could want from pub food! Very packed, it's admittedly a popular place. I'd definitely come back here again.
R. C.
The food, service, experience and beverages selection are exceptional. Highly recommend!
A. G.
The new makeover, food, wine & service at Phyllos were very good. Definitely one to repeat!
D. M.
Great atmosphere, good beer selection, cruisey staff. The foods a bit hit and miss - 1 in 3 meals comes out super half assed :(
C. P.
$5 steaks? You can't really beat that.. Be sure to get it with mushroom sauce! Or their pizzas are quite delicious too. Great place to chill and grab dinner with friends.
S. S.
Delightful , engaged & professional staff ,
We ate @ Phylli's which was fantastic , great meals and gorgeous setting
A. P.
Three times now the food has either not turned up or the order has been messed up. Don't come here if you're planning to eat. Worth it for a beer and footy.
n. l.
The Forresters is a special place around Surry Hills, having a convenient location close to central station around 10 minutes walk, has it's own house specialties of pulled pork, fried cauliflower and also their signature burgers, would recommend those who are in for a adventure, trying out new things! Pricing ranges from $5-35
M. E.
$5 Steaks on Mondays all day, best rump and mash ever. It's still winter, HAHA, so grab a hat mulled cider from the bar and sit in the open courtyard with your order number and within 10 minutes lunch ahs arrived, great place to meet Surry Hills locals on any Friday night, can get a little rowdy, but escape and go upstairs and watch a band on Thursdays, Saturday and Sundays it's more of a sportsbar, but less rowdy than most you may know about. BEST RUMP IN SYDNEY
E. H.
In the heart of Surry Hills and close to Central Station. One of those pubs you go to for a "quiet night" and end up going home in the early morning. Cheap drinks, food and good service.
f. s.
The burger is quite basic and served with substandard oily fries; barely worth it on Thursday (on specials). An extra star for their pizzas though, on a Wednesday.
M. C.
Came to this lil gem with my partner. Awesome experience! The staff were fantastic as was the manager! Great food, quality service.
G. S.
Steak was over cooked and tasted off. I didn't eat it or complain. The waitress did offer a free drink or more food but didn't offer a refund
M. C.
Looking for Jamdown flavas in Sydney?
Head upstairs at The Forresters, home of Queenie's!
They do carry a nice selection of Jamaican-inspired dishes, although no Rice&Peas is present.
Last time we went we settled for some starter and then shared a Jerk Pork Neck, a $40 plate that was big enough for the 4 of us.
We'll defo be back for more!
C. K.
Love The Forresters! Their wings are amazing! Great pub for a chill drink with a few friends
W. G.
Chill staff and cheap meals, but also pretty basic in the name of cheapness. Pizzas are tasty. Quiet enough at lunch time.
A. B.
Pizza is still great. Has never felt the same since they removed all the tat around the bar - feels like it's closing down.
T. J.
