Great Vegetarian Food.Geat variety catering for most palletes .Now it is less oily, not very "Hot"They have awesome selection of east and west meals ,gluten, free love the fritters and hot chutney is HOT,in fact everything is yummy.

This is the best vegetarian buffet I have ever had. They had plenty of food options including multiple, salad, curry and pasta options. Bread, rice, wedges and soup were also on offer. The lentil pie was amazing; a bit like a shepherds pie but with lentils instead of beef filling. They fried Caulfield was amazing and the sauces for dipping were great too. I definitely recommend booking as it can get busy at movie times. The dinner and movie deal is well worth the spend, especially if you can get a Groupon voucher. The location of the toilets (down two flights of stairs) was a little awkward when up at the cinema, but other than that this place is great. Definitely recommend and definitely coming back!

Food is always amazing, and the lie-down cinema is THE BEST. Do the food-n-movie combo, and you won't be disappointed. It's just a little bit expensive, so better suited to a date or special occasion than every weekend. Just make sure you plan your movie time well to your food.
B. K.
The food at the restaurant is very average. Some of items on the vegetarian buffet needs more seasoning and others were simply not good.
However the cinema upstairs is really cool and awesome. The couches/seats are very very comfortable and made the movie watching experience very pleasurable. I would love watch a movie again at this place.
P. M.
Nice différent expérience with Indian vibe - vegetarian buffet. The special cinema seating was lovely !
G. R.
Divine food and cosy cinema upstairs. Their all you can eat buffet is a sumptuous feast. Try their heavenly daal (lentil soup) with rice accompanied by korma, heathy salads, pappadoms and pasta. We watched Bohemian Rhapsody which was a great dinner + movie double. Friendly welcoming service, great value for money, comfy cinema and tasty food. Hare Krishna!
D. C.
Very nice vegetarian buffet. Plenty of food choices. Don't forget to try the deep fried cauliflower, wonderful! The cinema is cosy and comfortable. Waiting on the stairs before the movie during summer is extremely hot, but cool when you get inside.
c. r.
Awesome vegetarian buffet! Im normally a meat eater but I didn't feel like anything was missing because there was so much variety of delicious foods on offer. The cinema experience was really good too with plenty of space to chill out and relax.
T. G.
Been coming for more than ten years and always have enjoyed the buffet and meal deal and sometimes, just the buffet. You don't come here expecting top nosh; it's more for the movie and meal combo or if you happen to be in the area and feel like Indian, or if you want vegetarian/vegan. Never had a problem with the cinema aspect. It's been comfy and intimate and staff have always been kind and friendly.
S. R.
Good food and service. Somewhat cozy place and homelike touch to the theaters. Blankets provided as well and everyone served the customer with a smile. Was a great experience. Dozed off in the movies since it was too cozy.
A. R.
Very nice and cozy place with a great buffet. It is quite cheap with $22 per buffet and you can go as many times as you like. The service was great and food too.
F. K.
Fully vegetarian buffet for a good price and most options are vegan as well. Great.
P. F.
Food was good, nothing special to be honest. They can do with getting a little bit more inventive with the vegetables they use, seeing as it is a veggie buffet. Lots of peas, carrots and broccoli. Staff were absolutely lovely although definitely over worked and seemed a bit stressed out. This was during covid restrictions so they had to serve each customer at the buffet. Cinema was awesome! Cute, clean and cosy. Thanks team well done.
D. K. M.
I tried couple of times and buffet is very amazing. It’s fully vegetarian. Things to get on buffet to try against pricing is reasonable. Preparation of food is very much like made at home.
F. T.
Interesting experience, food is simple, feels like homecooked. Not too overpowering, unlike those places in Harriss Park, where you get the hit from the food, the food doesn't leave the same impresson. Service could also be improved, as the waiters seems to be less energetic and all over the place when serving only 4 tables on a quiet thursday evening. The cinema concept is interesting, however the cinema needs to be freshened up (eg. increase ventilation, increase frequency of changing&washing the pillow/bed sheets). For value, it's great but for experience, it seems to be enough to visit only once, hope this impression could be changed.

This is a rare gem. The best way to watch a film is in a simple but incredibly cosy lay down bed like at Govinda’s. Their food is simple, flavoursome and healthy, and their service is exceptionally gentle and kind. It was a shame to not be able to serve ourselves at the buffet (covid restriction) but the staff were highly attentive and patient with our needs and preferences. It’s just so rare to find a buffet meal at such a fair value in Sydney. I love your heart guys.
N. C.
Cinema/Veggie restaurant with a great buffet ($25/person) and delicious Indian food. The movie room is really cozy and you can lay down to watch a movie - great place to meet with friends/go on a date. Love it!

Amidst a current over supply of dull and dirty cinemas with lashings of junk food, Govindas shines through. Covid-compliant 'assisted' tasty, optional vegetarian buffet before or after the movie on the balcony or inside is a welcome time to talk in an arthouse / alternative vibe. No alcoholic drinks are served. The 2 cinemas offer a super comfortable sit or lie down experience maxing out at about 50 people in each cinema.
Latest movies correctly lit, scrupulously clean with the right audio volume and no ads. It's just great and on the mark. Nearby paid 4 hour street parking also available.
Get out there, support Govindas, this unique Sydney institution, and you won't regret the experience !
E.
Such a happy place to sit and eat at a generous buffet with clearly labelled vegan options and vegetarian varieties. I always have the meal and cinema experience sharing a relaxed vibe as we recline on the sumptuous lounges.
B. ..
Really very nice food and movie. Very good experience
L. P.
Been here twice and will go again for sure.
It's a really cool environment to see a film and the food is really good. My partner doesn't usually eat a veggie based diet and he loves meet but he really enjoyed the all you can eat buffet. The service has always been great
When you walk into the theater, you are surrounded by a bunch of futon like bed sofas and they are super comfortable and cozy.
Love this place and recommend it for a date night and for a night out with friends.
Two things to keep in mind:
We purchased tickets through Groupon so for us it was super reasonably priced for dinner and a movie which is a plus
Also they don't serve snacks for the movie so if your someone who likes to munch during movies I don't think it's even allowed but I could be wrong.
W. N.
Thoroughly enjoyed the unique cinema experience here, watching foreign films. Nice mood and sofas but got a bit sore back after watching the movie for a while (1.5hr later).
A. R.
Nice choices of vegetarian buffet. Brown rice . 3 curries, 3 different types is salads etc. Dining hall is very cozy. Good experience. Will go again.
R. W.
My partner and myself have been to govindas a couple of times now whenever we find the offer on Groupon for the buffet and movie for $55 for two people, which is a great bargain if you ask me.
We opt for the food first and movie after and depending on what day you go and what time you can choose your movie which is great, it’s usually a mixture of old and new release movies they show, so always have something your bound to enjoy.
The buffet is a vegetarian Indian style buffet, you get what you pay for it’s alright for the price but it’s not a high class meal with Michelin stars, but for a all you can eat buffet it’s pretty good, they have curries, rice, salads, chips, wedges, etc. standard buffet food I guess.
The movie rooms are cool and that’s the selling point, lounge style beds you can lie down on and get comfy and relax, a great date night style atmosphere and perfect for those cold evenings when you don’t know what to do.
J. C.
I wish I could review the cinema & the restaurant separately.. cinema 5 stars hands down. Restaurant 3.5-4 stars. The staff was lovely, lots of seating, and a nice variety of foods in the buffet including western options like pasta bake and green salad if you’re not up for Indian. However, the food was mediocre quality. If you’re a fan of Indian food you may be disappointed as I found it quite mild, almost bland. The deep fried stuff was very very greasy not like the usual pakoras, etc. you get from an Indian restaurant. That being said the cost was low for all you can eat, so for big eaters this would hit the spot! If you’re not a big eater I’d say eat elsewhere then catch a movie here. The theatre is a very unique experience, super comfy, great sound, big screen. Will definitely be back for another film!
F. C.
Food was delicious, fresh and healthy. The vibe on a weekend night was buzzing, which we enjoyed thoroughly. It is a very reasonably priced, fun night out. The cinema is gorgeous but my only advice is get in there early to get a nice seat.
Will 100% be back
A. A.
A fantastic movie cinema with bed like seats, perfect temperature and essential oils being sprayed to make the whole experience very relaxing. Their vegetarian buffet is nice and I like most of the food they have on offer, it could be considered a bit overpriced for what you are getting. There's nice outdoor seating. The staff are very friendly and it's a relaxing experience. Great place for a date!
D.
Great concept to combine buffet and movie, with the option of eating before or after watching. Seats in the cinema are super spacious and comfortable.
The only slight downside was that the buffet range was quite limited, but for the price it is absolutely great value.
D. D. F.
Lovely place. Food is really nice and the cinema is wonderfully set out and comfortable. Reasonably affordable and polite staff.
M. K.
I have been a few times and, although a meat-eater normally, LOVE the hearty vegetarian menu. Creative and delicious. Staff are always lovely too. The ambiance is cosy and lovely. The movie experience is great too. I always look forward to going.
L. A.
Govindas is a warm and welcoming home away from home. The buffet has a wide variety of curries, salads and some yummy fried treats. Everything is vegetarian and there are some great vegan and gluten free options.
Lying down to watch a film is the only way you should go to the movies
P. M.
I pre-reserves two tickets for a Friday night movie. When we arrived it was really unclear where to go to get your tickets and to find the theatre (hint, go upstairs to the restaurant- follow your nose.) we were greeted by the owner and another friendly staff person, and were led back downstairs to one of the smaller theatres which was SO cozy and comfortable. Only on other couple was there- it was quiet, intimate and lovely. We didn’t stay for the buffet because of my partners allergies but it sounds like a great deal- movie + dinner afterwards! Although the space was mostly empty on a Friday night, I’d love to come back. I’m only giving the space 4 stars because our arrival was quite unclear, confusing and no accessibility friendly. Maybe they can include instructions in the email confirmation.
S. M.
Fabulous food and great variety of it! And the movie theatre is a real treat - the comfort of even better than lying down in your own sofa, surrounded by dozens of different sizes pillows and at a fair distance from everyone else ( unless you want to cosy up with your loved one) - the screen is enormous and the sound is perfect. The only advice - bring a blanket as it gets a little chilly. Highly recommend the place!
P. A.
I went to a movie and live show at Govinda’s theatre restaurant in King’s Cross and was given free chocolate tasting. Then we went upstairs to the very nice buffet restaurant rooms and lovely tables. Despite the food queue the food was absolutely fresh, perfectly cooked and delicious. The trays were replaced as soon as they emptied with freshly cooked hot food. It was all vegetarian or vegan and the selection was plentiful. One of the best Indian restaurants I’ve eaten at. I was pleasantly surprised and very impressed.
E. A.
Loved it!. We've been there quite a few times and never been disappointed. All staff is very friendly at prompt. I'm not vegetarian but don't miss not having meat while I'm there as the food is so delicious.
Cinema is so comfy
M. R.
Been going here for years and years. I love the wholesome vegetarian fare and never get tired of it. The dilemma is always to have chocolate mousse or cheesecake at the end. The best solution is to have both. I usually see the movie prior, otherwise I'll fall asleep after such a wonderful meal.
P.
Lovely atmosphere, spirit of service was great and superfluous. Buffet style service meaning you can eat as much or as little as you desire. Went yesterday and likes it so much I'm going again today! Cruelty free and a cinema on top. Great little place.
R. K.
Very iconic place, had many great night's of food and movie here. Glad they screen so many documentaries and smaller films. Buffet usually delivers, also has many vegetarian options. Still feels like it's always the same, which may or may not be a bad thing because what's on offer is a good combination of greens, soup and more substantial indian food
A. L.
A lovely vegetarian buffet! Great and tasty food! The creamy broccoli was my favourite. The Mango Lassie drinks are heavenly! This place is great for a group of friends or just with 1 friend. My only gripe is the tables are very close together, the lighting is very dim & I only found 1 toilet in the ladies, but other than that, had a lovely dining experience! Will happily returne. :) PS Make sure you book as this place gets really busy!
J. G.
Love this place, wonderful vegetarian buffet and they always have great films in the little cinema. You can have a great night out here! Just remember if you are going.to see the film, you cant enter by showing a mobile ticket so make sure you have your ticket physically printed out or you will lose your place in the queue to enter as you need to go upstairs to get a token to enter.
C. M.
All you can eat veggie/vegan buffet! Food was absolutely delicious!! Not the widest range but there are soups, currys, bread, wedges, cauliflower bites and more all cooked to perfection. The staff are friendly and efficient and the buffet is always well stocked. Got busy when we visited so make use of the online booking form!
B. M.
My fiancé and I went for dinner and a movie showing on a Saturday night. The food buffet was a pleasant surprise with a variety of tasty food. The staff were accommodating and friendly. My only real concern is that nowhere on the website did it mention three flights of stairs with zero handicap accessibility. I had surgery 4 weeks ago and use crutches to walk still, travelling up and down three flights of stairs made me feel a little unease. The cinema was comfy, but since it was a Saturday night they attempted to pack us in very tightly which meant we were really getting to know our new neighbours. I’ll attend again just when I’ve got two fully functioning feet.

Delightful selection of international and Indian vegetarian food prepared without using onions and garlic. Friendly staff. Limited seating capacity and on the slightly expensive side... But if you can eat well, then it's worth paying for.... Also if you are there for an experience, then worth watching the movie too....
c. h.
Positive vibes with friendly faces welcoming you. Unique menu and "the place" to experience a bit of Indian spiritual culture. Great buffet spread and real good Chai tea! And what a setup to watch movies. 💕 Comfy @ home feels.
F. M.
I really enjoyed all the food available, and I pretty much tried a little bit of everything. The movie theatre was a different experience. We were in the second row, in which you are lying down on thin mattresses. We were pretty sore after about an hour. Next time we'll try to grab upright seats.
m.
After reading great reviews for Govindas, I bought a Groupon deal which included the vegetarian buffet and movie for 2.
I must say that the vegetarian buffet was certainly delectable with a pretty adequate selection and variety of dishes. Vegan options were available as well.
The cinema itself was cosy with huge comfy sofa seats/ floor couches which made the movie experience so relaxing and enjoyable as my body basically sinks comfortably into the cushion.
Personally, I kinda prefer boutique cinemas like this which offers a more intimate movie experience, especially when it comes with great food. Definitely worth experiencing.
J. K.
If you can get past the fact that the staff are clearly not trained in hospitality and keep an open mind to the eastern tradition of chanting yoga then Govinda's is a wonderful establishment. The friendly environment, delicious vegetarian cuisine served in a country buffet style works.
I can't recommend the movie theatre upstairs enough. It's wonderful to sit in a nice shared space and fall into the wonder of a film together.
T. R.
Make sure you book your table in advance. The food was tasty and creamy without being over powering. The atmosphere is quite homely and earthy, with a generous range of foods and drinks. If you are visiting Sydney, this is one place you should visit.
H. L.
Wow! What an amazing place! The movie experience was incredible - so relaxing. The food was delicious and in abundance. All the staff were so happy and made the atmosphere really enjoyable. I really hope to come back here soon!
C. A. S.
Wonderful little cosy cinema and vegetarian buffet restaurant. Been here four times so far. Quite unique for a cinema, to lay on large beds\cushions while watching a movie. Get in the cinema queue early to get a good spot as there is no seat allocation and you can be left crammed next to other people or at the back on a sofa-chair. Wonderful tasting food considering it is vegetarian. Highly recommended for a date night.
A. C.
Great vegetarian buffet restaurant. They have a range of vegan and lacto-vegetarian options. Approx cost is about $25 per person. Good atmosphere and they seem to be able to handle groups of 15-20 people.
They also have a small movie room on the top floor. You do get a discount if you have dinner and watch a movie.
A. K.
We went for the buffet. Food was ok, not authentic Indian food, but flavours were fine. Salads were better than other dishes. Maybe kind of a good value for $23 if you would eat a lot. Drinks had to be ordered separately and were expensive. We probably would not go again. Staff were friendly though.
F. E.
Delicious vegetarian food. Movie room is a great experience with comfy lounges to lie/sit on and great options for movies. Recently took my 14 year old daughter and she loved it also!
J. M.
Healthy vegetarian food... It is one of my favourite places in Sydney. You can enjoy the food and watch a movie in a relaxed environment. Customer service is very good!
J. W.
Amazingly different cinema. Feels like you're part of a full cinema experience, only in your own lounge room..
N. M.
Wow..what a great experience of watching a movie and dinner all in the same place. All of the staff on sat night 22.12.2018 were so friendly, helpful and nice. Food of the buffet was incredibly nice also. Well done and thank you!
R. d. R.
This place is a 2 in 1 treat, housing the Indian Restaurant on one floor & posh movie lounge on the floor above. Didn't get chance to eat there (yet) but went to watch a movie - which, I must say is great for a double date! Super comfy lie down floor cushions, easily the best & most comfortable cinema experience you'll ever have.
C. C.
Great food, staff were friendly, and the movies are always awesome! If you're looking for somewhere cheap and yet also good value for money then come here. Even when I was eating meat, I absolutely had no problems with the vegetarian menu!
S.
Unique way to watch a movie. The vegetarian food is very tasty and nutritious. Good desserts and coffee on offer as well. Great service in the loving tradition of the Hare Krishna movement.
N. S.
The staff and service is not the best. The food is good but not a large variety to choose as it is only a buffet with 4-5ish main dishes. It can do a bit of work and so can the staff.
y.
Loved it, that is my favourite way to watch a movie!!
The buffet was great, I’m a meat eater so I didn’t love it, but if I were a vegetarian I’d be quite happy I think.
J. Z.
Great Value and Experience at an acceptable price. The atmosphere in the small cinema is very cosy and warm. The food is self service but it looks very classy. The vegetarian options are tasty and cooked properly. Service is a bit slow. Will go again.
F. R.
Amazing place! Food is delicious and plenty of options from the buffet.
Only suggestion is to either replace plastic with paper straw or not use it entirely as it is unnecessary. Cinema is also pretty good, very comfortable and cozy
E. L. C.
Great food, and the cinema room was brilliant, really comfy! I took my Mum and she absolutely loved the whole experience. The vibe of the entire place was really relaxed and staff were very friendly and helpful. I’ll definitely go again!
L. M.
Great all you can eat vegetarian restaurant with a movie thrown in. Food is great but you gave to pay extra for drinks and desserts. Get there in plenty of time to eat before your movie as there can be a queue for the movie. Very comfortable movie room to relax after your meal to watch the latest movies.
T. D.
Nice vegan food. I was there for the first time yesterday and Olivia was so helpful with us! She is so sweet and represents Govindas so good 🤩
C.
The cinema here is really comfy but make sure you get there early for a good seat!
There are lounges and chairs to choose from and depending how busy the movie session is I can imagine some unsatisfied customers turning up late and getting crappy seats.
The buffet here is great, plenty to choose from and the staff are very friendly.
R. I.
Nice experience, would recommend it. Food was yummy good veggo Curries and buffet so eat as much as you want. Don't think the downstairs cinema is as good as the upstairs especially as my chair was broken so pretty uncomfortable but wife said hers was fine. Have been upstairs before and was comfy and awesome.
E. M.
A true treasure in the heart of Sydney! A delightful flavorful vegetarian buffet that never disappoints! The ambience is cosy and the service is professional, laid back and friendly as is the unique cushioned cinema. Love this place!
L. S.
The couches are luxurious and very chilled/relaxing to watch a movie on. The dinner buffet of vegetarian food is sublime; I'm not even vegetarian but the food is fantastic and you won't leave after one plate. Tasty dinner and a movie for $30 is very reasonable, so I'd recommend govindas to anyone.
V.
Govindas is a GEM in Sydney. I've been here twice and both times, I've left fully satisfied. Whilst buffets are usually full of lukewarm food options, Govindas always has warm and cosy varieties. Despite being a part-time carnivore, I happily sacrificed my meat loving tendencies for Govindas vegetarian options. With a rotating menu, you'll never be bored with their selection of food.
As for their movie theatre, it's extremely comfortable with very chill vibes. Perfect for a nice intimate date with the dinner and movie package!

Wednesday 18th July 2018!
What a comfy home style cinema experience!!! 🙂 AAA+++
You get a full size couch/bed spot literally to yourself...
Even if you’re 2m long, I think you’d be surprised!
The Indian Vegetarian dishes just are full of flavour, nothing was blan at all which surprised us both...
Perfect dinner+movie night any day of the week!!!
J. C.
Govindas is unique in the way that not only is a vegan buffet for $20, it also has a small cinema upstairs showing the latest movies the big cinema complexes show (for an extra $10).
How it differs from your average cinema is that the seating is wider, and there's also lounge/recliner type seating if you want to lay back and enjoy a new release movie with your partner.
I've not eaten at a vegetarian restaurant before but I was more than pleasantly surprised by the flavours of some of the dishes. Each one had us going back for more even though we were trying our best to save room in our stomachs to try everything they had. We're not big eaters so it was a struggle but we were more than satisified by the end of the night.
Govindas also gives all the leftovers to the local homeless food charities so that's a really nice thing to do.
We definitely will be going back and we keep checking their movie times webpage hoping that there's something we want to watch so we can eat there again.
E. B.
The movie theater here is actually pretty great - comfortable loungey couch type seating. Kick off your shoes and enjoy a movie (preferably one that you aren't likely to fall asleep in).
Minus stars for the restaurant. A) It's vegetarian. And I need my meat. B) It's not that great for vegetarian! It's a buffet and a bit ghetto... Guess that's what you get for the cheap cheap price of $30 - includes buffet dinner and your movie ticket!
J. C.
A combination of a restauran, cinemas and talks. You can lay down to watch a film! Food is vegetarian to vegan and very nice in a casual atmosphere. Lots of people watch a film then have a meal. The cheese cake is to die for.
M. (.
Very nice place for meeting up with your friends. Food is yumm!
The all you can eat and cinema is such a good deal for a nice date night with your partner. (Not for first dates! That would be weird!)
R. A. R.
Set in a street that's rather dark towards the evening. But most importantly for a $22++ buffet, the spread was a bit of a disappointment for an Indian traveler like me. There was a mixture of potato wedges, salad, pasta and some unknown dessert along with white & brown rice. The "Indian" part of the selection was minimal and was not authentic in taste with minimal use of spices to cater to a western palate, perhaps. Add to it, no proper dessert or coffee/tea/buttermilk....so overall I'd say the food wasn't bad but didn't justify the price.
R. M.
Govinda's is a regular for me and my girlfriend. The food is always delicious, the movies are great, and it has the best vegan ice cream I have ever tried. A must visit for any vegan or vegetarian.
A.
The food is lovely, and somewhat worth the price - which is reasonable for the area, but still slightly steep - the real let down is the comfort and space of the restaurant, and the quality and frequency of service. The movies are quality and the cinema is very comfortable.
A. P. (. P.
OMG, best place ever!!!
The vegetarian buffet is amazing (even though I'm a meat lover I didn't miss it at all) and the movie laying down instead of sitting...incredible!
I refuse do sit down on cinemas now, I just do Govindas!
s. g.
Ambience was great. You can feel like having a candle light dinner at a sophisticated restaurant. Food taste was quit less spicy. Have lot of salads in menu but no chapatis or Nan and no dessert.
H. E.
Value for money and wonderful staff. Had a lovely meal there and will definately be back for meditation
M. A.
Delicious food. Film was interesting but it was cold in the movie theatre and I didn't realise that you have to get in early for best reclining seats, otherwise you had a chair!
N. V.
3 times in one week.
More than the variety of food
The dine in experience and fine dine service is amazing.
B. K.
A very good option for vegeterian and indian food lovers in the eastern suburbs. for $24 you can eat all you can with variety of veggies. salads, rice, pasta and many delicious snacks. very friendly and helpful staff. their brown rice and daal was awesome along with Tofu scramble...
W. B.
Govindas is a restaurant that has been around for ages (and are found in other cities across the world also)! By far though - I would say the Sydney Govindas is the best - they have an all-you-can-eat buffet, and then to top it all off, you can go the the 'movie room' upstairs and sit on (very comfortable) couches while watching a movie. Excellent place, and I recommend everyone gives this place a go at least once!
T. B.
One of the better cinemas are around, meal & a show is a great night out.
K. K.
A favourite. They make onion and garlic free food which is awesome in meeting dietary requirements on special days.
B. T.
My favorite place to take people when visiting Sydney. I often don't tell them it's vegetarian, and even if I do, they wind up leaving completely full, expecting to go home hungry for meat. Great food, Great atmosphere, and the movie room rocks!
J. D.
A different cinema/dining experience. Very nice to watch a movie lying down in great comfort, and good vegetarian food at the restaurant. If there’s something there you want to watch definitely check it out
H. S.
This is my favourite place to eat dinner in Sydney. The food is amazing and everything is vegetarian, with most of it being vegan as well. There's a great range of foods, and it's served buffet-style.
M. k.
Its a little piece of heaven.some review said Ghee is not vegetarian .Ghee is just boiled unsalted butter.Staff is very friendly and place has so positive vibes. No Indian restaurant even can beat the feeling you get here.In such a good price you are getting divine feeling which is hard to get these days.
I just love it.so looking forward to go there again .
K. M. Z.
Saw Loving van Gogh here, perfect vibe. I'm not vegan but the food is delicious too. Upstairs cinema is definitely my preference.
H. A.
Perfect outing for a couple.
Good variety of vegetarian food and the movie starts exactly at time (without trailers).
They also have very comfy sofa beds.
D. T.
Indian buffet followed by a cozy movie on comfortable couches and lounge chairs. The Indian food is not your typical Indian cuisine, but its vegetarian (and vegan options). Just go in there with an open mind and a hungry belly.
H. S.
Food was amazing! Fried cauliflower was my favourite. It was the most comfortable movie experience I’ve ever had. Can’t wait to go back!
J. J.
Good cinema experience...nice different unusual. Dinner was nice. Service was great and super friendly. Prices were very reasonable.
J. H.
A very novel experience! Went in a group of four and did buffet dinner and movie. Since the quality of the movie (The Nice Guys) is the faulty of the director(s) I won't be considering that in my review.
Govinda's sometimes has an interesting selection of movies, but they tend to just be whatever is out at that time. The cinema's floor is covered in big bean bag-like mats that you lie down on. So if the movie's bad at least you can sleep. Otherwise, I would recommend going with at least one other person so that you don't have to lie down next to a stranger if that makes you uncomfortable.
The food was exceptional! For those looking for delicious vegetarian food, come here! It's buffet style and new dishes sometimes come out so it's not always the same selection every time you go up to serve yourself. Most dishes are Indian, but there were a couple of pasta dishes as well as bread and the like.
Only a couple of negative points. The table next to us was a table of four Indian gentlemen who did not understand how the process worked (they weren't speaking in English but their anxiety was evident through body language). However, the staff did not appear to be perceptive to this and were called over. In fact, after this first time they were called over again to explain once more. I'm not sure if this was due to a lack of communication skills on the staff's behalf or the men's.
The other negative thing was while waiting to be seated, a waitress passed us by, saw us, and then proceeded to ignore us. She didn't go and get the maître-d' either. But the maître-d' did arrive promptly after of her own accord.
The price could also be a little on the high side for some, but I thought that for the uniqueness of the experience and the delicious food it was worth it.

This place is absolutely amazing. Went for a meditation class in which it was very relaxing. Get there early so you can chose a seat you feel comfortable in. After this you can go upstairs and eat from the buffet.
E.
So the cinema is cozy, I can't say it's any cozier than any other cuddle cinema. But in the middle of summer they didn't have the aircon running and many people were dying of heat... Probably wouldn't come back in any other weather other than winter. Not worth it
D. B.
Very good food, good welcome. Spiritually activated place. All items prepared by the restaurant were of excellent quality. However, I suspect that there could have been at least one ready-made item with a preservative.
B. M.
All you can eat buffet of fresh vegetarian Indian meals this place is a real gem. My favourite was the vegetarian shepherds pie which was surprisingly tasty, the atmosphere there is relaxing with soothing down tempo music and friendly staff make Govindas a unique dinning experience.
s. l.
this place offers great vegan buffet. Unique movies are also complement your choice. Value for money for sure.
A. J.
What's better than an amazingly located all-you-can-eat vegetarian buffet in the heart of Sydney's Kings Cross? An amazingly located all-you-can-eat vegetarian buffet in the heart of Sydney's Kings Cross with a bedded cinema on top.
Just when you thought Govinda's family of restaurants couldn't get any better, Sydney had to show off by offering a relaxing, off-the-charts experience of the newest film releases waiting for you to enjoy them from the comfort of a bed.
So, eat you heart out, then go upstairs and catch up on the latest instalment of The Hunger Games (or whatever movie tickles your fancy) for just under $30. I dare you not to fall asleep though.
K. k.
The food is mouth watering! Buffet is worth every penny with multiple serves. The options are varied. The ambience is chic. Always reserve a seat!
A. G.
Food is tasty and is good value.
Food quality seems to have declined since the last time I went but was still quite nice and the non-vegetarians were surprised by how much they enjoyed it.
B. G.
Been there for a veg food, its one of the best modern indian veg food restaurant. I haven't tried the movie but the veg, slow eating on the balcony was a good experience. Only down side was Manisha felt papadom were fried on the oil may be had fish flavour.
R. S.
Excellent food, and a movie in their extremely comfortable private cinema afterwards. You definitely need to try this place out.
NOTE: This is a vegetarian restaurant and they do not serve alcohol.
D. M.
Great buffet at a reasonable price, and the balcony seating is great for a sunset dinner. The kicker, though, is the after-dinner movie. Comfy couches replace uncomfortable movie seats--incredible.
V. P.
Good option for vegetarians. Cost is little high only buffet system. Must watch Prabhupada movie in theatre. Cosy seats and mattress option. Good place to visit once in Sydney
A. B.
A kings cross staple, Govindas has been pushing out a buffet style vegetarian and vegan food for nearly 30 years.
As thus is a buffet style place, I would reccomend getting there a bit early to avoid the usual buffet problems.
T. M.
Some of the best food I had in Sydney! The usual delicious homestyle vegetarian fare found at Govinda's restaurants around the world, in a lovely peaceful environment. Perfect!
M. L.
I just LOVE this place. Supper yum food and the cinema is so comfortable in those big beds... favourite place to go on a romantic date ❤️
E. S.
At just under $30 for a buffet dinner and a movie, Govinda's is a good place to have a chilled night out or even an intimate date. The venue is run by Hare Krishna's and offers a delicious vegetarian buffet - dishes usually feature curry, rice, lentils, pasta, pakoda and salads. While not as spicy as what you'd get at an Indian/Sri Lankan restaurant, the food is flavourful and constantly turned over.
You can choose to take your meal before or after the movie. A warning though, the recliner lounges in the movie theatre are very comfy and perfect for food coma naps meaning you might miss the main event (get yourself a coffee or bring a friend to nudge you awake!).
Tip: Before the start of the movie, you line up on the tiny staircase and first in gets pick of seats. So if you are in a group, line up early to grab an entire row together.
V. W.
Great value for money and given its vegetarian, the food is pretty tasty.
P. S.
My wife and I love the food there. Well worth the awkward drive there from out west for a treat. Great food, comfy movie room with the latest flicks. Excellent value.
C. M.
Fabulous veggie restaurant with a small cosy cinema too!!
Great veggie food selection with chilled atmosphere.
Be sure to book your cinema tickets in the über relaxing small cinema post dinner!
What a great idea!! Highly recommended!
P. S.
The food was ok, movie was nice and cozy but a bit warm then my preference. Loved the dark humor movie. Next visit-may be not.
T. F.
The Govinda restaurant has a welcoming atmosphere and tasty vegetarian food. Went to the Kirtan for many years. Bring back the Kirtan to Darlinghurst. When you arrived you were given a lovely Mango Lassi.
L. C.
Great cinema experience. Never been that comfy in a cinema. The food buffet is good, mostly vegan.
M. C.
Such a great place to watch some of the best movies around, with comfy beds/sofas and really delicious vegetarian food. Makes for a great night out.
D. L.
Tony has been VERY helpful and friendly... the place is awsome.. from the intimate cinema experience to the fresh... vegetarian buffet.. it is such a great night out.
K. B.
Liked the experience dinner + movie. Some food was spicy to me. And there was a bit of waiting line near the entrance.
s. g.
Beautiful food, gorgeous restraunt so clean and romantic , very spiritual great vive the best cinemas in the world and the best prices i can find for luxury cinemas
J. C.
First time, it's actually not that bad. I'm not vegetarian but if your open minded your gonna have a great time. lentil soup was a stand out
E. S.
Such a cool place. Great buffet with vegan options, then go see a movie. Brilliant 👍
V. A.
Nice vegetarian food. Lot of verities. However there is no air conditioner or fan where we were sitting. Also it was a very hot day. Lighting is not adequate.
J. Ś.
The cinema is very cosy with comfy couches (bring a blanket for extra cosiness ;) ); the food is delicious (and onion and garlic-free for fellow folks with random food intolerances)
D. J.
Lively little rocking restaurant with unlimited buffet and great price. It amazed me when they said I can't reuse my previous plates. Very well taken care of the iskon principles. Love the dishes
J. O.
What a delightful evening. Food was superb, all you can eat (straight to my thighs!, but that's ok you need to live a little). Staff were just fantastic, they made me feel so friggin comfy I could've sworn I was a baby chick in someone's Palm! Now. Here's the bad part, the reason I left a fifth star out of my review ; I did not see govinda anywhere or the show. I was told by a close friend and colleague that Govinda herself regularly enters the restaurant, invites people to clap rhythmically whilst she performs an energetic and mood-lifting dance. She was nowhere to be seen. You can't win em' all I suppose ha! I hope this review has helped - Jae.
A. W.
Delicious and good prices. My only disappointment was i didn't plan to see a movie tonight. But theres always next time!! 😁
K. M.
The food is amazing, the cinema experience is wonderful. This would be a 5 star review if the staff weren't so disinterested in the patrons.
n. r.
Hardly eat vegetarian and did enjoy this restaurant very much... Staff is a bit... distracted. Careful not mistake the cinema session with the meditation session
D. N.
Beautiful place .romantic atmosphere.candle lit.super comfy sit in the cinema. Would be better if there is more pillow at the back , underneath the projector.
R. V.
Highly recommended. I haven't eaten there, but have seen 2 movies, small and cosy and i love the concept of lying down while watching. Great fun.
J. C.
Really yummy vegetarian & vegan food. A bit on the expensive side compared to other Govindas restaurants. The movie theater is a must.
L. A.
Beautiful buffet and very comfortable cinema! People always very friendly! Mango smoothie and lemongrass tea are amazing too!
B. M.
Really good and unusual experience with the tasty vegan buffet followed by the cinema lying down on very wide beds with pillows and cushions and even blankets.
K. M.
Food and service was lovely and the cinema downstairs is super comfy! The only thing this place needs is more toilets. There’s only 2!
k. l.
Really enjoyed the healing documentary last week and the gentleman on guitar befor the film. Only negative was the film wasnt able to be finished as if got stuck at the end but it was right at the emd so not a biggie
Y. J. T.
Bought voucher from Groupon with 10 friends together. I didn’t realise I’d enjoy the Indian food so much here! I would like to recommend friends here.
C. D.
Delicious food! Love the fried cauliflower!
Great ambience.
The staff is very friendly and helpful.
Absolutely recommend it!
T. M.
Had a great time at Govindas. Food was great. One of the best vegetarian food I had. Relax cinema was an addon.
e. r.
Really great night out in Sydney. All you can eat delicious buffet and a movie in intimate reclining cinema. The best :)
M. Q.
More than a restaurant experience when done in combination with the movie in the awesome cinema. Must be experienced. Staff are so friendly.
S. K.
Great food followed by a movie seated on the comfy couches. The buffet is ridiculously filling, so you will be grateful for a rest!
J. M.
We went to watch a movie and it was an extremely enjoyable experience. The flat beds were comfortable and you have your own personal space.
R. R.
Great food and movie experience. Offers a variety of vegan food and the movie experience is quite unique.
V. L.
Great food, good variety of servings. Very quick service. Rates are decent in terms of the food. We loved everything we tried in our plates.
S. P.
Interesting place. I enjoyed watching a movie here in quite a horizontal position as the "seats" we're more like couch ions on the floor. So next time no skirt for me lol
F. M.
Friendly service. Small selection of very tasty veg curries, dhal, pakoras etc. Great after a movie in the comfy lounge upstairs.
C.
Super chilled movie room upstairs, food is generally of good standard but tastes like too much coconut oil has been used
A. D.
Great value and delicious vegetarian buffet (coming from a non vegetarian) coupled with a great relaxed cinema environment. A great date night venue.
R. D.
Nice vegetarian experience and the staff and atmosphere is very inviting. Food is very good but it would have been excellent if more choices were offered.
V. H.
Very good vegetarian and vegan food, and I am a meat eater. Movie area is cool too. Good for food and movie dates.
K. F.
Truly unique spot to see a film, in a great comfortable setting (lying down!) and the food was also rather good.
M. W.
Great date night idea. Food is fantastic and the movie theatre after is comfortable. Would highly recommend
M. E.

J. S.
Perfect for a date night, lying down watching a movie. The vegetarian buffet is super yummy!
C. R.
Amazing veggie haven. So glad I found this place. $20 for all the awesome, delicious, homestyle vegitarian cuizine cooked with love that you can eat.
J. M.
Great buffet menu at good value for money. Coupled with a good movie selection and it's hard to beat.
M. T.

f. m.
Very tasty dinner and friendly service. Comfortable and cozy seats in the cinema. Great experience ☺️
B. P.
Govindas has a delicious vegetarian menu - with a single fee for an all you can eat buffet dinner and you can bundle it with a movie in their lounge like small cinema which plays various films (I was there with a group and we saw The Grand Budapest Hotel) Has a nice family atmosphere with excellent Hare-Krishna signature warm hospitality~
A. N.
Fried cauliflower and mango chutney are the best! Screening room is cozy, pre-show music performance is worldly soulful
S. O.
Loved the experience here. Super comfortable mattress in the cinema, yummy all you can eat food.
J. K.
Perfect date night location. Amazing Indian vegetarian food and the most comfy movie theater experience ever.
S. P.
Good food though it pales in comparison to Govinda's at the North Sydney Hare Krshna Temple.
Check it out, especially when they do their free food just after midday, and at 6pm.
A. R.
Went to movie and buffet dinner.Had a great time . Unique cinema experience good vegetarian food.
N. D.
