Very fast service 2mins. Lovely chicken laksa. Very creamy and nice to have on a rainy day. Not the best laksa I've ever had but definitely the best for it's price at only around $13!! The soup got a bit too oily and creamy towards the end to finish but the noodles were very nice and slightly chewy.
J. L.
Blazing fast service as always and consistently delicious laksa every time. Can't go wrong here. Just note that they only accept cash and the seating indoors is limited if it gets busy.
The first time I was here, I ordered and pulled out my phone while I waited. I didn't expect my laksa to be ready in like 30 seconds and the staff may have gotten a little cross I was holding up the service haha. My bad.

What a Sydney institution. Laksa flavours are authentic and always our go to when we are in the area. I wish they accepted credit card though as I don’t carry cash anymore.
H. 1.
Super delicious food, super fast! Big portion. Great price too! Will definitely come back!
D. L.
This place is an institution. Great takeaway laksa and for a decent price. The broth is one of the best I’ve had. Toppings are nice as well. You can eat there but it’s usually very crowded with lots of people waiting around for their takeout. There is always a long queue so better get there early. The service is very fast though.
D. P.
It's tough to give out a 5 from a takeaway joint but this place just seems to consistently deliver.
There's always a line so be prepared, but I dare say worth the wait. We've tried all the staple meals that a Chinese/Malaysian joint can offer.
Good tasting food, easy on the wallet. Pretty damn good.
S. F. B.
Authentic Malaysian curry & har mee (shrimp noodle) 😋 their broth is really flavourful and the price is affordable. It can be pretty crowded and full during office hours.
J. B.
A true OG Sydney laksa spot. I've been coming here since I was a kid. With everything that's been going on I haven't had a chance to eat here for a long time.
The laksa. The price. The weird restaurant space. The people. The bar and stools looking out over hunter st. This is a perfect meal.
Today was a reminder of how lucky I am to be able to support incredible hospo joints like Malay Chinese again. If you haven't come here before, or haven't made a pilgrimage in a while, come by and geek out.

Best Malaysian laksa in Sydney for time immemorial.
No frills cafe that is always packed and open only fir limited hours.
Pro tip to beat the rush - get in early to place your order just before noon. Also this place only accepts cash so go prepared.
A. M.
Universal agreement is that they have the best laksa in Sydney.
Cash only.
Expect a 10-20 minutes queue on entry at weekday lunch time.
Fast serving after payment - just 2-3 minutes.
C. L.
One of the best Malaysian restaurants around - try the Wat Tan Hor
R. M.
Great laksa and quick service. Tip - don't be discouraged by the long line as the system takes around 2 minutes from order to food served. Nice Malay/Chinese Laksa
E. T.
One of the best laksa in Sydney I must say. Love the Har Mee as well. Generous with the sambal. Been coming here for years and will continue to support them. Cash only and do not be turned away by the lunchtime queue, it moves quickly.
C. B.
Probably one of the best seafood Laksa that I ever had in Sydney.
The empty bowl afterwards, is evidence of it too!
S. W.
One of the best Laksa and Har mee in Australia. Taste is very authentic and tasty. Price is very cheap and that explains the queue when ordering. Seats is limited but worth the wait.
F. K. S.
No frills cafe, quite similar to a typical coffee shop environment in Malaysia. Great Malaysian street food freshly prepared.
We tried the Laksa, Char Kway Teow and Hor Fun and they are one the most authentic tastes we have found in Sydney.
Reasonable prices and large portion. Long queue during lunch hour but their service is very fast. Go early as they open at 11am to enjoy a leisure meal. Popular for takeaways. Cash only!
L. J.
Been eating at this restaurant since it opened from Castlereagh st in an arcade. I have only ordered 3 dishes, Harmee, Laksa and Hor Fun.
The dishes are a bit small but the taste is incredible. When it is Harmee day, you need to get there early like 11.30am to get a seat. At 12pm, it's a bloody long queue.
The owner has been feeding me in my 20s to now and I am in my mid 50s.
It was my go to place when I was working in the city.
Highly recommend to try these 3 dishes. They have other dishes but have not had the chance to try them because the Harmee and the laksa are SOOOOO GOOD.
J. S.
Excellent laksa, plan for a long line
T. K.
A nice humble Malay Chinese restaurant that’s known for their beautiful Laksa. I also like their other dishes such as Nasi Lemak and Char kway teow. Highly recommend Laksa!
H. Y.
I was told by a highschool friend to visit this place as it is a very popular place. Friend told me that people line up to eat here during the weekday. I have never had laksa before so I didn’t know what to expect. Looked at reviews and said it was the best laksa place in Syd? Had the chicken laksa however the chicken smell was too strong. Probs should have had boneless or chicken breast because I usually put garlic to rid the off taste of chicken. But its heavily in there. If the smell wasn’t there, I’m sure it would have been a good laksa. Too bad I didn’t get to try again. Just my review
R. T.
Over hype. The laksa was very ordinary. Miss two key ingredients when compare to those from Singapore. The laksa servce in Tamasek in George street taste better then here.
H. W.
One of the best laksas in town. Service is perhaps not the friendliest but hey, am willing to accept this since the food is amazing.
F.
I always get the chicken and vege laksa and it’s so filling and tasty, it’s my favourite laksa. Gets really busy at lunch time so expect half an hour wait
G. A.
Was told by local that this restuarant has been passed down to 2nd generation. Signature dish is the laksa. Good texture of the sources but I realised some spices are missing. The big prawn laksa was a disappointment as the actual size of the prawn is small. The char kway teow is just good. Ordering from counter.
E. K.
The moment we entered this place we felt like we walked in a food court or hawker center in Southeast Asia. It's hot, full of people and lively. The laksa is tasty and heavy due to the coconut milk. The prawn noodle could've been better, it doesn't taste prawny enough. The hor fun is also average, lacking that smoky flavour.
Food - 7
Service - 5
Vibe - 7
Value - $$,

I'm sittinig at home thinking I should make my way into the CBD this wet sydney autumn day.... because its almost worth it to schelp my way in. Amazing food here @ Malay Chinese and would be so perfect RN.
Love their rich flavoursome broth! Its so good. Best in sydney
B.
Far and wide the best laksa in Sydney! Best value excellent portions and a rich deep creamy flavour. Have been going here for years and years
D. L.
Best Laksa in the CBD. Decently priced, we got the Chicken Laksa for $11.70. The boneless chicken are extremely soft and tender. Be prepared to wait a bit if you're coming here for lunch as it does get very busy. The line moves fairly fast though which is good. Also make sure to bring cash.
J. L.
This is the best laksa in Sydney or if not one of the best. Been here twice first time i had the combination seafood laksa. 2nd time i was with my wife i had the prawn laksa and i had the chicken laksa. As always is consistently good evrytime. Noodles are cooked right, topping are the the right amount and the broth is what ties it all together it was creamy (not to rich creamy ) you can really taste the flavors from the herbs and spices. Best thing is they have unlimited sambal belachan a jar full just sitting in the counter for self serve which will make your laksa another level og goodness. If they had cockles with it its like you had a laksa in Singapore.
W. L.
4.9 - Delicious Home Made Food - Cheap and Cheerful. Opens late enough so you can pick up some food for an early dinner as well. Quick service and very accommodating. I've been back for lunch and the Laksas are awesome!! I enjoyed the King Prawn one.
F. F.
Very authentic, incredibly tasty Malaysian food - they are flexible enough to transform meat dishes into vegetarian ones. Our time here was very enjoyable and we cannot wait to return for their famous Laksa. This time, we both had a rice-noodle dish, which was divine!
Quite crowded and packed, but this definitely added to the charm and the staff is wonderfully friendly and helpful.
Overall, a great place for lunch! 🍴🙌🏻
M. K.
Best Malaysian Laksa in Sydney. Will walk the 20 minutes to get there to enjoy the embrosia that is their Laksa. Which has been consistent in quantity and quality for over 15 years. Highly recommend an early lunch (between 11/ 11:30) as there is modest amount of seating but it fills up pretty quickly in the lunch hour.
M. S. (.
I have enjoyed this restaurant for 20 years now.
The food is delicious, but it's normally very crowded and noisy at lunch time, which means it can be hard to find a seat. Having said that, although sometimes frustrating, in a strange way this adds to the atmosphere with the hustle and bustle.
The prices have gone up steadily over the years (with a tofu laksa and satay chicken costing me $24), but the authenticity of the food means that doesn't seem to dissuade the crowds (like me) who regularly lunch here.
P. R.
Clean place, quick service, nice laksa.
Portion is quite generous so it’s very filling (plus the soup).
It’s not a table service so you have to go up the counter and wait to pick up your bowl.
L. L.
I love this place. Hands down. It has been my go to Laksa place for many, many years - I have also moved to another country and still dream of their delicious, high quality bowl of Skinless Chicken Laksa (with extra Bean curd).
I've taken my family, friends, work colleagues here and introduced it to anyone that travels to Sydney that requires an amazing bowl of Laksa.
There is no other place in the world that makes Laksa this tasty!! The broth may look spicy, but it's quite mild, there is a pot of chilli oil next to the "Pick Up" counter - so remember to add a dollop of delicious chilli oil to spice up the broth and make it divine!!
It is a short walk from Wynyard or Circular Quay station, tucked in between Frankie's Pizza bar, and a Thai restaurant. It is extremely busy during lunch time, so I strongly recommend going after 1PM, it'll be less hectic and the line won't be out the door!
I usually come in around 1-2PM for lunch because it guarantees a seat!
They also provide seasonal fruit for free as dessert! Which a lovely gesture and I will always fly back to Sydney to visit at least once!!
(and yes! I took a selfie with my Laksa because it's just so damn delicious!! Lol!!)
C. B.
This place is crazy busy, best laksa in town! Double check when you order your dish otherwise they might bring you something else 😆
M. G.
Their skinless chicken laksa will warm you up on a cold winter day. Add a dollop of their optional chili paste and it'll make you steaming hot.
On weekdays expect very long queues to order/collect food and then a long wait to find seating. Remember they only accept cash.
The food though is definitely worth the wait.
j. c.
This place only accept cash no pay wave and credit or debit card. In here is self service
Highly recommend!!! The sea food laksa is so delicious and the lohmee also must eat with the home made sambal that match perfect with the laksa!!! This is the best of the best laksa in Sydney! You must try
But remember here is only accept cash only
You can takeaway or dine in
S. L.
Cannot fault the Laksa and Chicken Curry. This was a regular for me when I worked in the city, I miss it so much and am going to make a special trip one day just to satisfy my craving.
J. L.
Perfect laksa.
Not much more to it, really! If you like laksa you won't regret it. See other reviews for other parts of the menu, because I can't get past the laksa.
M. S.
Wow could be my favourite laksa place after CBD noodles and my office mates who are Chinese convinced it is the best laksa in the city. Being a curry expert - I believe they have the perfect balance in coconut cream and saltiness in their laksa and you don’t feel full immediately after couple of sips. It was nice vege laksa but I wish I had more veggies and less noodles. If you chose to eat in - it is crazy busy place and people start flooding after 12 for lunch and finding a table is next to impossible. The numbers really shows how popular this place is.
J. E.
Authentic Malaysian cafe experience. The laksa was absolutely amazing. The mee goreng was pretty authentic too!!! I like the ever available chilli for self serving.
A. S.
Rates 3.75/5.
King prawn laksa 3.5/5, plump succulent prawns, the laksa broth is a bit weak but rates among the better ones in sydney, short of boiling it yourself at home with prawn heads n fish bones then putting some fish meat to the blender.
Skinless chook laksa, cant score as i did not get any. Note the skinless bit is the breast meat. I am a leg man.
Char kwee diao 3.5/5, pretty rare to come across ckd which is not drenched in oil.
Mee goreng 3.5/5, as close as the real thing in spore esp with 1-2 spoonful of the free belachan on the serving counter.
Curry chicken, 3.75/5, pls ask for more of the heavenly gravy, heaped all on the rice w a dollop of (u guessed it, the belachan).
Needless to say, the Q is out the door.
A. F.
Probably the best laksa in Sydney! I come here quite often for lunch, and it’s ALWAYS packed. I think there was a few times I came a bit late and they already ran out of my favourite. Be prepared for a really long line (unless you come before 12), though it’s worth it. Also, things move quite fast and people eat pretty quickly so wait isn’t that bad. Definitely worth a try if you like laksa. Not too spicy as well which is a plus for me.
S. H.
Still as good as I remember from 23 years ago! Little has changed...queue out the door starting from 11:30am, suits in bibs, that amazing endless bowl of sambal and of course the king of laksa in Sydney. Yum!
G. W.
Not bad.. average tasting laksa imo. The sambal was good.
B. K.
The best laksa in Sydney! Very busy for weekday lunches but time it right and you'll be fine. No other laksa compares to this one. My favourite still after ten years!
A. C.
Really good Laksa, in a great location right in the heart of the CBD.
The restaurant looks a bit old and dated, and the decor is minimal, but as long as you're only here for the food that should not be an issue.
The Laksas are all great, excellent soup base.
I don't like the breast meat chicken, but if I recall there is a drumstick version which is better.
Can get very busy at lunch time as it is very popular with office workers
J. W.
Hands down the best laksa in Sydney and it’s not even close. They have the broth nailed and the toppings are both generous and high quality. My go-to is the chicken & king prawn laksa. You can tell a place is amazing when the tables are essentially food court style but it still has two dozen people lining out the door every lunchtime. If you know, you know...
K. S.
This place has been around the CBD for several years. Still the best laksa in the city. Reasonable price for a large tasty serving (used to be much cheaper, but inflation kicks in). Key challenge would be getting a seat at peak lunch hour - would recommend arriving before midday if you want a table. Despite the fast service, queuing is to be expected; the quality food makes it worthwhile.
A. H.
Amazing place for Laksa. It really is one of the best places to get it and the broth is well balanced with the coconut and the curry paste. There is a bit of a queue but the service is amazing there.
Y. M.
The best laksa I had since a long time !
V. B.
Delicious and cheap laksa. They were very accommodating to my friend who had severe allergies and made sure to skip out on certain ingredients for him.
V. N.
Delicious laksa that isn’t too rich. Quick and friendly service.

Working in the Sydney cbd, one is always open to a good lunch recommendation. Last week one of our customers said that this place made the best laksa and Hainan chicken in town. We were excited to try. Today being Saturday, I decided it was a good opportunity as it would be less busy. they still had a good crowd in but I would say that the food was good, not great. we had chicken laksa, Mongolian beef and sweet and sour pork. the usual hot bar is not available on Saturdays so no kapitan chicken or rendang for example. laksa flavour was good but apart from noodles, which were very soft and silky, not much chicken, sprouts or other stuff. the flavour of the Mongolian beef was good but the beef itself a bit chewy. the s&s pork was just ordinary. I will give it another try during the week just in case Saturday was sub par and try the har mee with looked amazing.
u.
My regular char kway teow or laksa - passes comparison with Penang - look like family type workers - efficient despite a long queue for lunch - expect to stand and wait in a crowd for 5-10 minutes after placing your order - but you're unlikely to complain after you get your food - unless you're can't handle the truth (I mean chili ? - the most popular chicken laksa has red stuff floating on it - dunno)
meh - if you hate asian food, stay away - if you like it, try this place
[update] this place is busy! Photo taken 2pm on a Friday ... I usually put too much chilli and end up not enjoying so today I got char kway teow and didn't add chilli - wok hei! Breath of the wok - smoky flavour - that's what I'm talkin' 'bout! Ima hafta come agin ...
[another regular visit] tried the beef rendang on rice - huge lumps of meat - albeit soft - but gobstoppers I had to chew in half before fitting in my mouth - taste disappointing- I’ve had great rendang in Penang and elsewhere and this wasn’t it - more like meat pie and tomato sauce flavour - erk - stick with the laksa !
[update] boss told me - 32 years ! First Castlereagh St opportunity MLC Bldg from 1987, now Hunter St since 2000. Same food, same good.
E. T.
Best laksa in Sydney cbd I've tried so far! Even better is their special Har Mee - mixed noodles with prawns, pork, egg and veggies in a prawn broth soup. It is available on Tuesdays and Fridays. Make sure to come before 11.30 if you want to find a space.
B. K.
The line of people every lunchtime for years speaks for itself....best laksa going around town!
s. j. K.
The best laksa place in sydney.
The one and only place that you can have legit authentic laksa and harmee in sydney.
Hope they run this restaurant at least 100 more years 🥰
M. F.
Dan Hong called this the best laksa in the world. I’d like to think he’s right. Sensational.
B. L.
I have had a lot of Laksa in my lifetime and this little shop produces the best of them all. This is evident as you approach the restaurant and see the line extending out its front door, spilling onto the neighbouring Thai restaurant that is doing quite well with the overflow customers.
The Laksa here is a flavour bomb, mixing a super tasty broth together with the fullness of coconut milk, adding a mix of spice, and topping off with a generous dollop of fiery sambal. The noodle soup is perfectly complimented by tender chicken leg meat.
H. D.
BEST LAKSA IN SYDNEY!!
I will stand by this until I die
Tasty, cheap and very consistent
I have been coming to this place ever since I was little because my dad worked on Bligh St just near it in the city. I loved it then and I still love it now that I work in the city (Pitt St)
The people who run it are nice, friendly and accomodating
It’s a bit annoying that it’s cash only but that’s the only complaint I have
G. M.
Good tasty laksa and fried noodles in Syd CBD. Crazy busy hours between 12-2pm. Expect long queue and super crowded dining area. Seriously it’s like a battlefield - not the best calm dining experience for lunch. The staff are indifferent, min service. Cash only so have the correct change ready.
C. C.
Great spot for authentic laksa on a cold day. Lots of seats that suit solo diners or small groups. The team is incredibly efficient and your food is virtually ready as you pay. Note it is cash only though.
K. L.
Best laksa in Sydney! During this season always wanna eat it
M. P.
The best Luksa in Sydney without a doubt. Great menu all around at a good price. Shame we can't have a wine with our food. Definately recomend this restaurant if you love Malaysian food.
F. X.
We were told the laksa is the best in Sydney.. I'd disagree but it is pretty damn good. I particularly enjoyed the Char Kway Teow - very authenic!!
The staff were also very helpful and friendly
R. W. P.
I've been coming hear since 1987. It's my favourite place for lunch in the city. You eat like a king for less than$ 20. It's very busy so I go a little later . To get a seat.
A. C.
I come here every time I go to Sydney (from Melbourne) because it's the most authentic laksa I've had in Australia. I'm Malaysian Chinese and Laksa is the number one food I crave most often. Thanks Malay Chinese for satisfying my cravings! Sorry about the picture it doesn't do it justice... But same with most truly authentic things. It's the chicken and king prawn laksa with chilli
K. L.
Very Authentic Malaysian Laksa. Easily the best in Sydney.
T. L.
Went with vegetarian laksa and still taste awesome 👌
A. G.
Very good food and quick cooking. We enjoyed the place, recommend. They have a good selection of ingredients coming with the food.
A. R.
This place is delicious. If you're looking for an authentic asian dish with lots of shrimp/seafood flavors look no further.
W. T.
I tried the place out because I heard from my friend they serve really good laksa, and damn it was good. The broth was really flavourful, the meat were very juicy and tender and the noodles were just right. It was also really cheap with everything on the menu being $10-15 and the portion was also really filling. The service was also super fast! I ordered and it was instantly ready.
10/10 would highly recommend!
A. A.
Whenever we want laksa, we come here. Love the Hainan chicken laksa.
L. C.
Best HorFan and Laksa! If I go into the city this place is a must!! Food is well priced and always delicious!!
E. G.
Was craving for laksa and google reviews took me here. The place was to be open until 4.30pm on a Saturday as per the time given in google. I rushed and reached there at 4.06pm. The sign board said closed and went in to check if I could order a t/a. To which the lady at the counter said ‘only chicken laksa’ and as soon as I said yes, she stated $11. Wow- what a rush in getting the money. I understand you might be busy with the close down, but maybe try giving a friendly customer service next time? Can’t fault the laksa, which is really good. Giving 9/10 for the laksa but 3/10 for customer service.
k. l.
Yummy comfort food. Authentic Malaysian food. Downside - long queue unless you go very early when the ship is open, or very late before the shop shuts. Go for the specials or the very popular laksa.
H. A.
One of the best laksa in Sydney town
J. V.
Totally addicted to this place. First Adam laksa in Sydney it tastes so good. The laksa is full of flavour it is delicious. I've been going here every week for the past month.
P. C.
Always good experience with Malay Chinese restaurant, their Laksa is the best in Sydney. The restaurant been here for at least 35yrs from what I know. My parents been taking me here since I was a kid. Absolutely love it, and if you haven’t try their “Prawn noodles” you don’t know what you are missing out on!
h.
The best laksa house in sydney 🔥 effordable price.
C. P. V.
The ricw was great and laksa was amazing a tip the place just has "only cash"
J. W.
Hands down best Laksa restaurant in Sydney. Nothing beats this place and it's chicken Laksa. A bit busy during lunch times but well worth the wait.
C. C.
staff were super accomodating of our dietary needs (gluten free, soy free, peanut free…!), while still being cheap, fast & delicious!
L.
Great food and very affordable for the city. Heard it was the best Laksa in Sydney, not too sure about that but definitely good
D. G.
Not sure what all the hype is about. Average fast food Chinese - not something to go out of your way for. A bit on the oily side.
S. M.
Bit tacky on the inside and hidden in the corner, but really quick service. People are lovely and the Laksa was nice. Lacked some spice, but still good. The lines go out the door, suggest going in at 12 or slightly earlier to avoid the line.
C. F.
The best laksa I’ve ever had
No frills, cash only, gets busy but the laksa is simply amazing
S. T. D.
One of the best place for authentic laksa in the city CBD. Avoid the lunch crowd, visit after 2pm instead otherwise might be challenging to get a table there.
A. W.
If you are craving for laksa then this place will satisfy you. The mix of spices in the laksa broth/soup is perfect! Beware of a long queue to get in and find a seat. The service is fast and if you want to do take away, to take home for dinner, do let them know and they will separate the ingredients which is quiet thoughful. Portion is good, not the best ambience as you can feel eyes from other customers are watching you while you eat, as seating areas are scarse so you kinda feel rushed to finish and leave. Not something that the restairant can do anything about as good food attracts crowd and the restaurant does not have space to accommodate everyone.
L. J.
Hands down the best laksa and har mee in sydney!!!
H. Y.
Good they open early, at the moment for takeaway only. I’ve got my food takeaway at 10:30am.
C. S.
Their laksa is yummy and have the authentic flavours
S. G.
The best Chicken Laksa in Sydney ! The gravy soup was thick and authentically Malaysian. I bought takeaways too so I can eat it again the next day hahaha 😋😋
T. S.
My favourite laksa in Sydney. Line looks scarily long but it moves quickly.
P. H.
I've been going to the Malay Chinese on Hunter St for about 30 years. It's over off the only reasons that I go into the city these days. They serve one of the best Laksas I've ever had and everything else on the menu is great too.
M. C.
Harmee and Laksa are must trys at this restaurant. Amazingly flavoured street style food served here. Often very packed during lunch hours but the queues do move quite fast. Worth the wait though if you are craving for a hearty bowl of their famous dish.
C. W. C.
Best Malaysian restaurant I have been to in Sydney. Cheap food and taste delicious. Recommended to get their daily specials and their famous Laksa.
M. H.
Hands down the best Laksa in Sydney. Fragrant tasty broth and the prawns are huge. Gets busy during lunch time
S. H.
Sydney's most famous Laksa, and for good reason. Always add sambal, and I personally only like the vermicelli noodles (no hokkien noodles) as they absorb the laksa soup a lot more. Always keen to stop by for lunch if I'm nearby!
K. L.
Pretty awesome laksa here in Sydney!
A certain Jimmy in The Galleries need to come to school here.
R. M.
Amazing food , service was fast and hot , only gripe was that they don't accept card CASH ONLY
E. N.
Best laksa in Sydney! Broth is amazing and the laksa tastes really authentic. Unfortunately only open on weekdays during lunch hours.
D. S.
Hands down the best laksa in Sydney
A. C.
Heard about this place long time ago, finally came here during lunch break. The best laksa that I've ever had, even thogh they serve everything with container. I will definately come back and try some other stuffs
C. J.
This place is so good! I ate here 2 nights in a row. I had the noodle dishes but I'm told the laskas are the perfect hangover food. All of the flavors complement each other nicely and they have this very light coating of chili sauce that is very good, and if you like spicy, you can get more sauce if you want it to have a real kick.
E. K.
Still excellent. I've been eating their laksas since they were in the Carlton Arcade in the 80s. You have to queue unless you come early but you don't have to wait too long and it's always worth the wait.
D. F.
line up, buy, get a seat and eat.
Cash only and good value for quality Malay food. Be sure to keep it quick, you will need to leave once you are finish so others can take a seat to eat.
I like their creamy coconut base in the Laksa, and their service is big for most people.
J. R.
THE best laksa - perhaps globally but definitely within Australia. Authentic and delicious. This place is an institution and a favourite of local office workers. They have been in business for at least 25 years and have always been extremely popular. Very busy at lunch time but the queue moves quickly. Take away is always an option. Cash only.
J. K.
Fantastic Laksas. Decent Chinese food. No beer.
S. R.
Cash only. Cheap. Very popular for business lunch, but workers will be in and out. Food is good no doubt, but they do add quite alot of coconut milk in the Laksa if you like it that way. Sauces provided were good. It's self-service for the most part. Staff are behind the counter and only come out to clean tables.
C. C. G.
Try the nice laksa. Really nice, have feeling of hometown flavour. It will be best if got cockles and long beans. Place a bit stuffy, probably is summer time. Worth go again.
a. w.
Super busy. I don't really like raksa noodle but this was very good.
M. L.
Laksa is awesome, best to eat with the samba chili they made in house. Sometimes they give out free mandarins at cashier. Lunch time is always busy and hard to find seats so have to go early or u can phone order and get take away. Serving time is very quick so its a plus!

The best laksa in Sydney.. or probably even in the world as I have never found any better laksa so far. The size, texture and price are great, even better if you add the chilli (get it yourself from the big chilli pot). I always eat the laksa here when I feel cold, or have flu to cure it instantly. It works for me, it might also work for you. Chicken laksa + vegetable + chilli
H.
Casual restaurant but serves the Best Laksa in Sydney. Hainanese Chicken is also good as well as their Beef Rendang.
Make sure you come before 12pm during lunchtime on weekdays, the place is extremely busy especially during winter. Have tried to go here after work for a more peaceful time to enjoy that hot bowl of Laksa.
M. O.
This place has the best Laksa that I have had. I go here a couple of times per week for lunch. The laksa is delicious and the portion is very generous.
It's not a relaxing place. It's usually crowded and noisy. You might struggle to find a table and usually end up sharing a table with others. If you go for lunch with someone else you might not be able to hear them over all the racket. The staff are nice but abrupt. The food from their hot counter is ok but the same as most of the other dell style asian affairs where it's a big pot of curry or stir fry that they fish out.
And .... all of that doesn't matter a damn. The Laksa is absolutely fantastic. One of my favourite places to eat in Sydney
T. M.
This family run business has been serving delicious, generous meals for decades. The laksa is rightly a Sydney CBD legend, but life is too short not to try the Capitan Chicken (to name only one). Be prepared to wait for a seat. The turnover is quick but the place is super popular. Nice to see some faces behind the counter that have been with the business since Carlton Arcade days.
B. B.
This is an old brand that still run by the same family for over 30 years. Always busy during lunch. Chicken laksa is always good. Try their daily special. Good value food. Just need to find a place to sit.
D. X.
Great Laksa, second to Satay Delight at Matthews UNSW
J. D.
Really delicious Laksa. Huge servings which come out very quickly and are reasonably priced. The serving sizes differ quite dramatically for the take away vs eat in dishes (eat in serving is about double the size of the take away), so keep that in mind when deciding whether to eat there. An extremely popular spot so getting a table could be difficult if you go at peak times.
A. M.
Best laksa in Sydney! It is a quick, no frills joint. Laksa has the best flavor with amazing portion size and very reasonable prices! Would recommend this to all my friends and family.
J. O.
Best Laksa ever. Used to eat here years back. Was in the city today and decided to walk there from townhall. Knowing I would arrive at 10:45 didnt mind waiting. When I arrived they were already open. $11.70 for a bowl of Laksa. Had to check my change again just to check if I heard right. Still soooo CHEAP. Love this place. Highly recommended.
J. H.
I would not say this is the best laksa in town as my chicken laksa was very watery and flavourwise it was ok only. No depth of flavour. The chicken was succulent so that's nice. My friend's Assam laksa (special of the day $12.80) is a better dish to order if you like spicy. The fish, pineapple and cucumber slices in her bowl was a nicer meal. Order only if you like spicy.
J. C.
Good lord, my food was served to me literally before I could sit down and take off my jacket. Fast service, really good food. Their chicken/shrimp laksa had the most tender and succulent chicken. By far the best chicken I've ever had, especially paired with their rich, luxorious soup. Tastes of lemongrass and uncuous seafood. It's a little spicy, creamy, and all around delicious. Their shrimp and noodles are mediocre, but don't get it twisted, their food is DELICIOUS.
J. M.
Been coming here since 2006, though don’t come as often... still the best!
D. L.
Very good laksa but the portions could be a little more generous so it loses a star for that. Long queues at lunchtime rush hour but the line moves quickly and you can usually find a seat.
R. W.
The best Laksa I have eaten. Patronising this place for the last 15 years or more. Quality always consistent.
M. L.
I was so excited when our office moved to just around the corner from Hunter Street, hands down the best Laksa in Sydney. When you walk into the restaurant and 90% of patrons are all eating Laksa, it must say something! Today I got the Char Kway Teow, made to order, fresh, quick service very tasy and not too oily! Highly recommend this place!
B. F.
This is my go to place in Sydney for amazing laksa. It is usually packed to the brim at lunchtime on weekdays but if you want a bit more space go and check it out on Saturday. Lots of really good Malaysian food and drink.
S. Y. (.
Authentic Malaysian food. Best Laksa in Sydney!
S. M.
My favourite laksa in all of Sydney. This place is an institution which just celebrated 30 years in operation. Get there around midday before the queue builds up. Wendy and the staff there always super friendly. Cash only the only negative.
T. C.
Cheap and cheerful. Decent and fast service
E. C.
It's well-known that the laksa here is amazing, so I'll just specifically give my praise to the vegetable laksa - I even prefer it to the chicken. a) They don't skimp on the veges, b) they're cooked to perfect texture, and c) frankly you may want to balance out the delicious heady fragrance of the laksa stock with something light like veges.
If you come on a weekday after 12pm and you want a table for 4, you are taking a serious gamble.
p. c.
One of the few places for a good and decent bowl of laksa. It is only opened Monday to Friday and lunch only. There is no lingering around here. Just order, eat and go. There are also daily specials and I do tend to also have the prawn noodle when it is available.
Lunch queues are long but with the quick service and turn around, you don't have to wait to long to have a seat.
A. C.
Really good laksa. The soup is rich and creamy, not too hot if you don't make any specific requests about chilli, and has bean shoots added with the seafood. Probably the best laksa I've ever had, in some of the worst decor I've seen. Staff are short and sharp but food comes super fast, and as others have said it is cash only so don't get caught.
s. m.
Reputed to have Sydneys best laksa. Not sure I agree 100% but it's very good.
Formica tables, usually crowded but seats come up fast, queue to order at the counter and a laksa gets handed to you in about 30 seconds flat.
C. K.
I grew up on this stuff so I'm a little bias, but it's my favourite Asian place I've ever been too. Once I think about it, it's hard to get out of my mind until I eat it.
Its always busy so it can be hard to get a seat sometimes but the staff push the food out very quickly.
Singapore noodles and the satay chicken skewers are my favourite, laksa is amazing also.
Enjoy
J. B.
Literally the best laksa I have ever had. I usually order the chicken and add veggies. Line builds up but moves very quickly. Highly recommend
N. W.
Extremely crowded during lunch hour, so there's almost always a line spanning outdoors! The laksa is reminiscent of the authentic Malaysian Penang laksa, and their daily specials are worth a try. I love their Har Mee (prawn soup noodles) special on Fridays. First in best dressed, these specials do run out fast ;) Prices are very reasonable, not to be missed!
K. M.
Being comming for years and it is consistently delicious! Love it
M.
was expecting better food and more delicious as I always see people going there. it's always a busy place. but I found the laksa is just okay... very very mild..the mee goreng is so so as well. wouldnt give a 5 stars as for the quality of food and price they are not that cheap
A. M.
Picked up an order of chicken Vegetable fried rice and a spring roll for a small take out dinner. It was excellent! Very tasty rice, great tasting spring roll. Prices were very reasonable. Service was very good and food was prepared very quickly. Not a bad choice at all!
I. S.
I’ve tasted Laksa everywhere . The best is in Kuala Lumper on the street dining.
However Best Laksa in Australia is Malay Chineese. This raying should be 5 star, and believe me is. But cash only and pickup, counter and no real service I gave it 4 star rating.
S. Y.
Cheap and cheerful place for a casual meal. The go to dish is their popular laksa which you can opt for different toppings. The laksas are served up super fast! They have daily special dishes on so watch out for those. Great har mee on Fridays and Saturdays.
E. N. K.
So quick and cheap, had my laksa within seconds. Ordered the king prawn with extra bean curd and veges. Was very good, the bean curd really soaked in all the flavour, but make sure you add the extra chilli oil at the counter. Only criticism is it could have done with some more vegetables. I really like the bar stool seating over looking the path and road, it's great for sole diners and people watching.
s. t.
This place is voted to be one of the top malay cuisine restaurants in and around Sydney for its famous chicken and prawn laksa dishes. went in with higher expectations but unfortunately wasn't up to the mark for me (maybe it's just me). Overall, a one-time try.
K. L.
Best laksa in town and friendliest staff you will find anywhere. Good food and chicken rice to die for. What else can you ask from a malaysian restaurant! Check out their website for the daily specials.
R. N.
Dish was tasty chicken was soft noodles as well. The soup looked watery I'm not sure if it was coconut milk It wasn't filling and during the lunch time period finding somewhere to sit comfortably was a challenge lucky for me it worked out by just chance. I like it. Just disappointed it wasn't more filling. Skin free chicken laska with a ginger beer not bad. Service wasn't crash hot but I'm willing to let it slide. I want to go back when it not so busy.
J. S.
Always packed and busy but the laksa here is a MUST HAVE. Amazing taste and flavour and fast to go, you wont have to wait long for it to be made, great for speedy meals
J. T.
Definitely up there as my favourite Malaysian style laksa in Sydney. Lots of different combinations to choose from. Can be hard to get a table at lunch time. The char kway teow is also very good
F. S.
Chicken laksa, yellow noodle, extra tofu. Enjoy!
M. K.
Finally I tried this place today. I am a big fan of laksa!
Service was very fast, food was delicious! We went there for am early lunch at 11am and the place was already filling up quickly.
I tried their famous Chicken and prawn laksa and Har Mee. It's really good!
S. D.
Best damn Laksa in Sydney. It's always crowded and there's no air-conditioning. Finding a seat during peak hour can be tough and finding a table impossible. Sharing with other people is expected. The broth is perhaps the best anywhere. Noodles are great. The skin on chicken is somewhat fatty and hard to eat but every other option is amazing. My personal favourite is an off menu fishball Laksa.
S. C.
Best laksa in all of Sydney. Cash only, so make sure you hit an ATM before you head in there. Avoid the lunch time rush during the weekdays, as the place is packed and the line goes out the door!
R. R.
This is the best Laksa in Australia. Seriously you should visit this once to taste it.
However the experience comes with conditions.
Don't expect out of the world customer service
There may be a long queue if you come after 12.30 pm and finding a nice table may be a challenge.
The staff does a great job in running the joint though. It is amazing to see them serve so many people in such a small place.
Best advice is to visit before 12 pm and consider take away if you fear being in the midst of so many people.
j. h.
Been coming here for 20+ years, they have the perfected the production line in moving large quantities of orders in little time! always a great experience, best laksa in Sydney - been to a fair few other restaurants that claim to be "best laksa in Sydney" but those other restaurants are simply not. Malay Chinese takeaway is the best in Sydney. Get there just before 12pm.
M. A.
Big call, but this is the best Laksa in town. Period. I lived in KL and still missed this place. Mostly a lunchtime work crowd, and it's busy. Very busy. But don't be put off by the queues. People move in and out quickly.
S. V.
From noisy workers to 'having here or take away?' without any prior greeting or formalities...this place is as Malaysian as it can be.
I was not offered an option for type of noodle. Laksa was tad bland and didn't score high marks with my laksa-seasoned taste buds.
However, these folks are unapologetically original and I don't think they are going to listen to your grumbles. They are old-timers.
A. C.
So what they say is true. This place does indeed have a very very good laksa. Despite the fact that the place may not be full of Asian customers (usually a good way to guess if the food is authentic and tasty), the food is made to a delicious recipe. A single bowl of this stuff will fill you up.
I had a seafood laksa, with the usual prawns, calamari, fish dumplings, and seafoody things, the soup is sweet, and there is just the right amount of bean sprouts.
We also had the satay chicken skewers, they were amazing! The chicken was crispy on the outside, and the peanut sauce was absolutely nuts!
S. K.
Laksa was pretty much the only thing on the menu, superb flavour and super fast service. If you're interested get in early because it gets very busy, practically standing room only
L. W. (.
Very busy malay restaurant .. accept cash only. The laksa is nice with a very soft chicken meat. Not only that, free flow of sambal chilli to go with laksa. Queuing is a bit confusing I guess... for my first time
J. O.
This place has the best laksa, hands down. I take some guys from work here from time to time. Some are Asian and they love it too! Even my Indian friends from work.
You gotta try it out. Delicious. But get in before 12pm or you won't get a seat!
Also, make sure you ask for jalapenos or you won't get any ;)
J. S.
Best Laksa in the city, hands down!
Actually it’s the best laksa I’ve ever had, anywhere. Don’t be put off by the storefront. Real locals know this is THE PLACE for rainy lunches in the CBD!
J. N.
Delicious laska for lunch at affordable prices. Definitely bang for bucks!
J.
I've been eating here since I was a child, and it had always had one of the best laksas in Sydney. Everything is authentic, my only recommendation is to get your order in before 6:30pm if you want dinner
M. C.
Good cheap and delicious laksa.
Very crowded but turnover is quick and finding a seat for a party of 2 should not be difficult.
Service is extremely efficient with a wait time of 2-3 minute from ordering to receiving your food.
However, not good for catching up with someone over a long lunch and you may be kicked out not long after they clear your bowls.
I would recommend getting the chicken laksa without skin and load up on the sambal chilli condiment
T. Y.
My favourite laksa place in Sydney! The laksa soup is creamy and rich and is a killer when combined with the skinless chicken! It gets extremely busy during lunch hours so I would recommend to arrive slightly early (around noon) to secure a table.
N. L.
One of the best South-East Asian eateries you can find in Sydney. I don't normally choose spicy dishes, but everyone seemed to be having the Laksa, it was irresistable. The blend of seafood and spice is just right, the spiciness is tolerable, and overall an amazing experience. The restaurant itself seems a bit rundown - showing its age, but it just seems right - belonging.
J. L.
Very good and cheap laksa. If you go during lunch times on week days, be prepared for massive lines and sharing tables with strangers as the venue is not big enough for it's demand.
R. G.
My favorite Malaysian in Sydney, I’m sure I haven’t tried them all but this is the pick out of all I’ve been to. The beef rendang is excellent....fair warning, they only accept cash and it’s usually really busy around lunch. Worth the wait though
M. M.
I’m a Malaysian who has just moved to Sydney a few months ago. I love this place, reminds me so much of the meals I have with my family in Malaysia. The laksa is great, but their fried noodles are superb too!
K. C.
Had the prawn laksa and char kway teow, which came to $25, very decent price. Great value as there's plenty to eat. Food was overall tasty and authentic, but a bit too salty. Came in the evening, about 6pm and it wasn't too busy, but understand that lunch times can be a bit crazy.
M.
Been going for years but this time for the first time it didn't have the same flavour, I was disappointed.
J. K.
When a laksa joint sells 30years anniversaries T shirt, you know how good the food is. Extremely crowed during lunch hours... go a bit early you’ll have better experience.
P. L.
The laksa broth was full of flavor. Expect a long wait during lunch time. Protip is to ask for mixed noodles otherwise you only get vermicelli noodles. Make sure to add some chili paste when you pick up your order.
D. V.
Very good laksa for a reasonable price in Sydney cbd. Quick service and seating available (even on Sat lunchtime full).
Payment is cash only, that is why only 4 stars (receipt available upon request)
R. C.
The best laksa I've had. Super tasty, generous portions, fresh ingredients and very affordable. The only downside is that it makes every other laksa in Sydney inedible in comparison.
k. t.
Very quick service with excellent Laksa. heaps of locals, and it's definitely a quick order and eat type of place. I got the seafood Laksa which was good but could have more of a variety of seafood instead of fish cakes and fish balls. Wasn't too heavy with the coconut which I have found with other Laksas I've had which is definitely a plus. Definitely worth checking out, and it's easy on the pocket so worth trying.
S. K.
I dream of this Laksa. This is the best laksa in Sydney, possibly the world. You have to try it to believe it. I hope they do not sell out.
B. Q.
Been here a number of times over the last 10yrs. Really hasn't changed. Kind of street hawker food with so decent pricing avg $12 dishes.
I personally don't think it's as good as other people say or justified how crazy busy it gets at lunch time. But obviously people vote with their feet.
Solid food but not outstanding. Quick service though
M. T.
Sydney institution for Curry Laska. It is Sydney's version of Melbourne's esteemed Laksa King. There is a reason why there are one lines every single day
M.
I've been coming here for many years because of their freeflow of green chili pickles and sambal. Without them, i prob wont come.
I think their laksa is their best. Harmee n char kway teow are average.
V. S.
The best laksa in Sydney: taste is delicious and amount of it is enormous. You can also choose different filling. As for me I prefer seafood and king prawn. What's really important is that they put bean sprouts (not sure if this is it but it tastes so good!) in laksa. Soup base is really creamy and deep. You can decide and put whatever amount of chili sauce you want.
Beware: if you choose takeaway option the amount of laksa will be much less.
D. T.
Best laksa in Sydney, at an unbeatable price! Make sure you arrive before 6:30pm, though, as the kitchen closes then. Many a time I've been just too late and had to live with my regret for the rest of the night...
K. W.
Even though this was packed as sardines, i loved the laksa they served here. It was very spicy and hot, or maybe it was just because it was packed and felt really hot. I went with the chicken laksa, the chicken was very tender. The soup based had a great coconut taste, and the chilly was adequate.
If you do plan coming here, you need to arrive early, or come during off-peak hours. Expect a long line if you come here during peak hours.
I saw a fare few other dishes, but i was recommend to try the laksa first, and ever since, i cant steer away from the chicken laksa they served!
The staff are in a rush, so dont expect incredible service. The staff do come around collecting the used bowls and utensils, but it takes some time.
Oh and lastly, they offer mandarins, grab as much as you can! They are free! They help cut through the thick laksa soup.
A. B.
Authentic food, good atmosphere. Great laksa - buy the bib with it and save your clothes! Can be hard to get a table because the place is popular, but tables do turn over quickly.
C. H.
Best laksa place in Sydney. Full of flavour. Can get busy during lunch time and difficult to find a seat immediately. But worth the wait.
K. “. Y.
My wife's side of the family is Malaysian, and they approve of this place. As someone who works in the CBD and is constantly hunting for the best eats,, this is easily my favourite Chinese takeaway place in the Hunter Street area for a 5km radius . All their curries are great, but what they really do well are all the fried noodles and laksas. This place has long lineups, but they are ultra efficient and it normally doesn't take me more than 10 minutes to get my food, even when I order something custom which needs to be cooked on the spot. Great Malaysian food.
S. G.
I have been dining at Malay Chinese Takeaway since 2005. Their chicken curry laksa is second to none!! Har mee, which is only offered on specific days, never disappoints either. Don't take my word for it. Just look at the lunch queues and many regulars who frequent this place. Better yet, try it for it yourself. If you truly want a taste of Penang, which is where the owners are from, try the "Assam Laksa", a dish that Penang is well-known for. This is another special dish that is only offered on specific days so do check their website first. This is a no-frills diner though so don't expect table service. It's all about the food which is authentic Penang hawker fare. So, if you're after a Char Koay Teow fix, this will do the job as well. The smoky flavour and texture of the noodles is reminiscent of Penang. All that is missing are the cockles which I am happy to do without.
K. S.
Hands down awesome laksa here. Plenty of really spicy free sambal to be had too. Very fast service. So the decor and ambiance is not up to much but the food really is excellent
C. P.
Popped in for an early Friday night laksa. Very nice, and super quick. CASH ONLY.... Trap for young players there. Must be ridiculously busy at lunch time.
K. M.
Best laksa soup in CBD and a fast and still friendly staff - highly recommended! Just be aware: it's not a restaurant where u spend an hour of your lunch break in - it's more a ,eat your soup and make space for other laksa lovers, experience!
J. C.
This is a legendary eatery. If you want the best Malay curries or laksa in Sydney, the this is the spot. Being crowded (all the time) and a bit dingy should not discourage you from visiting. And btw, cash only.
D. S.
Not too much to add here. Best laksa, if you choose takeaway option, the size becomes much smaller. Plan your visit in advance: it's super crowdy between 12 and 14
G. M.
If you ara a laksa person, then definitely worth your time. Super-busy at lunch time, but turnover is good. If you eat inside, you get a bigger portion, than if you takeaway
V. X.
Have been going for over 25yrs, from the days in the Carlton Arcade, Chifley and now Hunter Street. The Laksa flavour has hardly changed. Needs to be tried at least once if not many!
I. T.
Famous for their laksa. Long queue during peak lunch hour. Better get there early or really late. They have other dishes like hainan chicken rice etc.
N. D.
The BEST laksa in Sydney. No doubt about it. Been coming here for over a decade and it's the same consistent food. So good
D. M.
You got to try Laksha bowl here. It's mind blowing and tastes really very good. Served in a big bowel hot with soup which tastes amazing. Hard to find a place to sit during peak hours but it's worth a wait. You will love it, highly recommended when in Sydney.
F. L.
If you are looking for the best Laska in Sydney you've found it! Come here for really good, really tasty Chinese and Malaysian food. One of my favorite lunch spots... so good that the line goes out and around the door. Very affordable.
N. S.
A bit over hyped in my opinion. Don't bother trying to find a seat in the lunch time - the lane is just massive AND the prices are higher than I would expect for laksa place. The food is nice but I don't think it's something that much of an extra.
M. W.
People have talked about Malay Chinese as being the best Laksa in the CBD. Whilst I am not a spicy noodle soup expert I can say this meal impressed me. The spicy soup with delicious well balanced flavours came out in under 3 minutes even though the line was out the door at 1pm on a Thursday. 5 stars!
A. P.
Should be 4.5 if not 5. Best laksa place in town. Very crowded during lunch time. Prices are reasonable around $11-$14. Very quick service.
S. K.
I am a laksa fanatic, so this review is going to be somewhat gushing and over the top.
I have eaten laksa in pretty much every single place offering it in Sydney, and Malay Chinese Takeaway wins by a mile. It can be quite a confronting experience the first time you go. There is a line system which is simple once you understand it, but awkward when you don't. There is a bain-marie section which serves curries and other Malaysian delicacies, and then there is the cash register where you order any of the soups and noodles. Get in this queue if you want laksa.
I will admit that I have been here scores of times and never ordered anything other than the laksa. I can't offer advice on the rest of the menu, but I can guarantee that the laksa is phenomenal.
Their stock is deep and rich, with lots of chilli oil floating on the top. I get the seafood laksa with less noodles, more bean sprouts. I love spicy food, so I make good use of the urn containing thick, spicy sambal that sits on the counter. Make sure you take as much as you want when you're there, as they don't let you come back and get more later without paying! This may have lead to one or two chilli overloads in the past.
Getting a table can be difficult, although they do turn over fairly quickly. It's the sort of place that you focus on the food - and it's so good you won't want to think about anything else. The bowls are huge, and it's not really advised to finish one (although I have on a number of occasions). I would make sure you don't have an early afternoon meeting after this meal, as you'll be a bit sleepy.
I was thinking about moving away from Sydney, and this was one of the places that I knew I'd miss. It's shabby and simple, and the best laksa in town.
T. L.
Delicious!!! Really tasty and flavoursome laksas
X. L.
Best laksa in Sydney CBD, hands down. Naturally this means if you go during peak lunch times you should expect long lines (that move quite fast), little chance of grabbing a table unless you stalk a while, and service that doesn't have time to waste on anything but business.
f. l.
Quick, good price and tasty laksa
S. M.
Delicious food! If you want a seat make sure you cross all your fingers and toes as it is usually very busy. Though the turnover is pretty quick so I have managed to get a table most times!
C. C.
One of my absolute favorite places in Sydney to get Laksa. The soup broth is delicious and the thing keeps me coming back is the chili paste they have at the counter which adds a great kick and flavour to the soup. The setup inside is simple and they don't do table service, so don't come here expecting anything fancy. The important part is that the food comes out fast and is honestly delicious.
Instagram @chrisclift for photos of this meal and more.
E. K.
The Laksa here is tops plus it was one of the few places that was open in the area on a Saturday! Had the Seafood Laksa and the Char Kway Teow and they were delicious. Service is prompt too, but I can imagine this place being very busy on workdays. TIP: They only accept cash, so make sure you come prepared, otherwise they're direct you to the nearest ATM.
T. N.
Try the laksa, the broth is delicious.
The place gets packed after 12.30 and especially on rainy days.
The service isn't friendly but the food is delicious so its worth trying.
The other dishes are delicious as well, but most come in for the laksa.
M. C.
Arguably the best laksa in Australia. Certainly the best I've ever had.
Only order the skinless chicken laksa - unless you're a vege then get the vegetable laksa with tofu. Forget the prawns as they are frozen not fresh.
Make sure you add a generous dollop of chilli paste.
Many people who've had this laksa say that this would be their last meal should they find themselves on death row.
R. H.
Simple decor, but AMAZING laksa.
b. M.
Everytime I come here - I am always torn between the laksa and prawn har-mee. Love both but my tummy can only fit one bowl. I have been their customer since 1989. Those days they were underneath a building near Martin place station. The quality still is the same, although they have changed trading places a few times. Seriously, their Laksa and Har-mee are the best in the WORLD, even exceeding those in the home of the cooking - Penang Malaysia. It is an obligation to visit this place if you are in Sydney.
D. F.
It's been an hour since I had the chicken and King prawn laksa. Jeepers it's good. Not too spicy, but I got a sweat on and a runny nose. My stomach is so happy with my life choices right now.
J. S.
One of the best laksa on Syd
S. S.
I must start with the disclaimer that I know the family which runs this place, although I have fallen in love with the food here about 15 years ago, before I have come to know them.
We visit the Malay Chinese at least once a month. Sometimes the craving gets us to come more frequently. It's usually the laksa that brings us. We consider theirs the best laksa in Sydney. My favourite is the skinless chicken and king prawn.
But I also love their Combination Hor Fun (the sauce is seriously addictive!), the Char Kway Teow is magical and their Hainan Chicken Rice is a must. I just love the broth it's served with. Try their chilli paste with your meal, it's fabulous, but please take only what you need and don't waste it, it's just too good for that!
During the weekdays this place is packed with city workers patiently waiting for their fabulous lunch, no matter how long it may take. If you don't mind a late lunch I would recommend turning up from 2:30 onwards for a nice relaxed late lunch. On Saturdays it's a bit quieter and it's easier to sit back and enjoy your bounty.
Oh, and did I forget to mention that you will have lunch here for two for under $25?! Seriously!
B. P.
The best laksa in Australia, I daresay!
b. w.
upgrading this review. Malay Chinese is really good malaysian food. The laksas are incredible - best in sydney and full of heady flavours and spices. All for under $12 (max) or under $10 for a standard one with chicken.
Its busy for a reason. Its a bit old but not hugely and there's always a queue. Well worth checking out - this is your first point of call for laksa.
R. C.
My everyday Saturday 30min sojourn for the chicken laksa, prawn noodles plus either the Penang hor fun or the CKT (char kuei teow). Pity they have taken the heat out of their sambal chilli as it used to be much hotter.
X. X.
I can see this is a relatively “causal” eating place, looks very “Asian”,cash only. But he stars are given to the food. This is only blow average Laksa in Australia. Soup is not creamy and I assume all ingredients are just dropped in secs before taken out. As the prawns are still cold in the soup.
C. L.
Yummy laksa. Authentic flavours
J.
Quick note - 7pm closing time, but may be closed to new walk ins 6:30pm!
Great chicken laksa, char kway teow, capitan rice (if you're getting takeaway, try get the chicken+sauce separate from the rice - it's crazy oily)
A. C.
It a very nice place for laksa because it's very popular during lunch and dinner I recommend to go there but be quick before the line get to long
J. F.
So good! So consistent with their food. Best laksa I've had. Stay chicken is amazing here too. Hainan chicken is also the best I've had too.
E. U.
Best Laksa in the City! Ive tried several in the City as I work there and this is by far the best in my opinion. They should expand to the south end of the City so I dont have to walk so far but its still worth the walk as is!
M. F.
very nice assam laksa, plenty of fish, friendly service, i wish they open on weekends though!
S. C.
Creamy spicy laksa. What's not to love? The place is a favourite for those in the upper Wynyard area. Get there before 12 or after 1. Otherwise prepare yourselves to hawk for a table!
Get the chicken laksa (with skin!!) and a bib if you're wearing a white shirt ;)
M. L.
Taste absolutely genuine.. it takes me home 🤤🤤🤤🤤🤤🤤 highly recommend... Remember to have chilli with the laksa... Omg!! SoooOOOoo good and moorish
M. T.
Best tasting laksa in the CBD. Queues can be long but the wait never is. Best to eat in and remember that you come here for the food not the fit out.
J. R.
Wonderful service for a factory of food, in a good way. Lots of options here and most are excellent. The soups are rich and spicy. I'd come back.
Always feel free to reach out to me on Twitter @joerazz

Malay Chinese is really authentic in taste. As a regular Malaysian foodie myself, I was totally impressed on my first visit. They carry different specials everyday e.g. Hainanese chicken rice on Monday, prawn noodles on Tuesday etc. If you need it spicier, pile up on that free flow sambal. The chicken rice is also tasty and char kuey teow is recommended too. The highlight of the place though has to be the curry noodles. Many varieties and too good on a cold day! Did I mention that these are all for under $13?
P. L. B. h.
Good laksa for sure. I love it
But definitely not the best location, with limited parking around the area and with the limited opening hours it’s even harder because of the loading zone times
E. X.
We have been going there for 25 years. It's always busy, food is very good, fast service, value for money. Best Laksa in town.
W. K.
Best laksa in Sydney, worth the long queues and cramped interiors. Don't forget to add a spoonful of their delicious sambal.
J. J. A.
The BEST laksa in Australia. I know this because laksa originated from where I grew up and the Chinese uncle who owns this place is also from there. This is the original laksa dish you can find in Australia
D. V.
Best broth of any Curry Lakda I have ever had. Maybe not t the best ingredients wise but that broth is Ancient and wonderful!
K. L.
Arguably the best Malaysian laksa in Sydney, there is no where else to go. Lunchtime favourite in the CBD. Be prepared for long queues and to battle for a table between 12pm and 130pm.
J. S.
Amazing food. Quick service. Can't book and it's always packed during peak times. Especially work day lunch times. So be prepared to wait for a table. Or take away and eat elsewhere.
P. H.
One of the best laksas in Sydney if you can find a seat at lunch time.
My favourite Specials are:
* Penang Assam Laksa, and
* Beef Noodle Soup.
D. B.
Great Malaysian meals some of the best in Sydney. No frills dining room means all the focus is on the food. Tasty and good value hence the long lines every lunch time. Stand out dishes are chicken/prawn laksa and Char Kwai Teoh noodles.
C. Z.
Delicious laksa and completely packed with people at lunch time. Best to go at 11.30am or 11.45am if you want a seat for lunch.
S. S.
Best laksa in Sydney
S. M.
AMAZING laksa soup. If u go there during lunch time, there are such long cue, packed with ppl. But the food comes out quiet fast. So dont need to wait that long. But still shows how many ppl enjoy their food here ;)
S. E.
Best Laksa <$20 in Sydney, easily (and it's less than $10).
Get extra noodles for $1 if you're particularly hungry, and you end up with twice as much food to eat. :)
A. V. (.
The flavour and the place was just fine, but there are other places in city which serve better.
Also, on the downside, accepts cash only.
S. C.
Best laksa in Sydney❤️
Yummy food reasonable price and friendly service Real asian style!!!
Got my puppy sitting outdoor seat was perfect truly enjoyed🥰🐶🥘
v. s.
This place is famous for Laksa, and people likes this place, but I am not a laksa fan so can comment much on the food, but yes taste is good.
M. H.
Seriously the best laksa in Sydney! On a week day the lines are out the door. My personal fave is the veggie laksa with extra chilli on top for $9!
P. E. H.
Great laksa, horfun etc. I've been eating here for nearly 30 years and the quality has always been consistent. Large serves too.
S. P.
best laksa here. don't expect to find a seat easily as there is always a queue with the business location around the restaurant but most definitely authentic malaysian food with again the best laksa
P. C.
Affordable meals, quite tasty as well. The Hainan chicken and the curry prawn. Came with different types of rice, which was a nice surprise. It's normally packed. CASH ONLY
B. J.
Great taste, good location. But, very busy. Impossible to get a seat. Suggest you go at 11:45 for lunch if wanted to dine in.
The staff will hustle you to leave as soon as you finished. Can understand because it's busy.
C. C.
Delcious Laksa and they have Assam Laksa on Thursday fortnightly
o. t.
Five stars for a Chinese joint.... yes sir! Decided to hit this place up after a cancelled flight back to the States. It's located in an unassuming nook downtown. My mouth literally started to salivate upon entering the establishment and being smacked in the face with aromas de jour! Sat alone at the bar while awaiting a table.
L. J.
I have been eating their Harmee when they had their shop in Castlreagh st in the arcade ( now a new building), cross from MLC building . I have been eating their food at least 3 times a week when they had 3 other restaurants in town in the late nineties and early 2000s and still going to the last one standing on Hunter. The food has been consistently fantastic without a doubt, the best in town. My favourite is Harmee, Laksa and Hor fun. They have watched me grow, from a young girl, married, pregnant and now a mother and hopefully a happy grandmother with lots of grand children eating their Harmee.
M. M.
Really great laksa joint, reasonably priced. Its quality is attested to by the phenomenally cramped seating and the line out the door between 12 and 1 on business days.
P. B.
Great, i grabbed an early lunch so i missed the fabled crowds. I had the chicken laksa and added a good tablespoon of the chilli. Was delicious and I will definitely be going back.
L. C. J.
Laksa and chicken rice are recommended
H. H. P.
It has the best laksa i have ever had in Sydney. Affordable price with high quality of food.
V. H.
Feel like eating street food laksa in Malaysia! Taste nice authentic and fast service . Affordable price and good portion for Sydney CBD.
N. t. o. t. l.
Best Laksa in Sydney.(update) And Still the best Laksa.
H. L.
Probably most well known for its laksa, probably one of the better in the CBD. It's packed in lunch time pre-COVID.
E. Z. (.
Definately one of the best malaysian laska places in Sydney. All the boxes of a good laska are ticked: complex, flavoursome, spicy and rich laska soup base, sprinkled by a generous amount of quality protein of your choice, optimal ratio between laska paste and coconut milk, unlimited supply of dark red spicy sambal to indulge in, etc, etc.
My white shirt resembled a modern oil painting, dunked in a bucket load of sweat, but it was well worth it! What a satisfying and therapeutic eating experience!
S. J.
Best chicken laksa in Sydney! The succulent chicken, the pungent umami-ness of the soup, drool worthy just thinking about it.
P. W.
THE LAKSA! If you ever wanted to know what amazing laksa tasted like then go here and get the skinless chicken laksa. Its cheap its tasty! if you are a fan then its worth every drop!
A. V.
Best laksa in Sydney! And having the best laksa in Sydney means that you get your dish so quickly.
P. C.
Best laksa I've ever had. Be prepared to share a table with a stranger but well worth it!
L. W.
Best chicken laksa. The line at lunch is extremely long and out the door on most days, but well worth the wait. Get in quick!
J. P.
Now that To's in North Sydney has closed, this could be the best Laksa in Sydney. Very busy at lunch so get their early to grab a seat
M. H.
One of the best laksa in the town
E. F.
Very good laksa. Always busy for lunch but even if the queue looks big it doesn't take long to get served.
C. C.
Consistently delicious.
I always only get their chicken laksa so can't speak for other things. Importantly though this place is cash-only.
M.
I visited this place for the first time in three years and I confirm that their laksas still kick butts. Best ones in Sydney hands down.
J. T.
Great range of laksas and very affordable. $10 for a large serve of the vegetarian version. Been coming to this place for around 20 years
S. C.
Very popular and famous for its laksa. Avoid going there during lunch time as finding a seat will be challenge.
S. W.
Laksa is fantastic. Place is always busy. Pay the extra 40c and get a bib. You will save on dry cleaning.
A. K.
OMG. This place has the best laksa ever. Totally amazing flavour. Too crowded most of the time.
t.
The best laksa in Sydney CBD. Worth the walk and queing. Tick broth and put more chili for more kick. Always want to come back for more
R. F.
BEST LAKSA I HAVE TRIED IN SYDNEY!! I have tried laksa's from many different places in Sydney, and I am yet to find another that even comes close.
B. D.
The freshest, tastiest laksa this side of town. Soup is excellent and the chilli sauce, sambal is fantastic
B. Y.
Such complex flavours in the harmee, it even has tiny pork crackling! But he prawns were overcooked and tiny, you can barely call it a harmee. Lakes was good.
The price is ridiculously affordable.
P. C.
Good Malay Chinese food. Had the laksa which was smooth and not too spicy. The HarMee was flavorful too. Cash only
B. S.
Best laksa ever
T. S.
Second best Laksa in Sydney. That's no small achievement. Highly recommended.
M. H.
Laksa was the best I’ve ever had! Generous serving and prompt serving time. Can’t wait for my next visit!
c. D.
Dare I say the best chicken laksa in Sydney.. Also try their Har mee (prawn noodles) if available.. full of prawn favour.. weekdays for lunch is crazy, be sure to arrive before 12pm.
A. P.
Good serving size and fast food..good place to visit if you like quick Malay or Chinese food without frills. Prices are pretty decent comparing the fact that they are operating in city.
A. L.
There is no better laksa in Sydney. Lines are crazy during mon-fri lunch times, but it’s worth the wait
S. T.
The reviews here are not wrong: best laksa I have had in my life. Not pretentious, not expensive. Perfect.
H. B.
Absolutely the best laksa in Sydney. I've tried many over the last ten years and this place takes top honours.
K. L. L.
They serve the best curry noodles (laksa) anywhere in this planet. And they have been consistent over the past 30 years.
D. Z.
Chicken laksa! The best place in Sydney for laksa, without a shadow of a doubt. You don't come here for the service....
J. K.
Best Nasi Lemak Har Mee and Laksa in Sydney.
Very busy noisy but great.
No parking is available, but it does do takeaway
M. C.
There's a reason this place is always so busy, the laksa is incredible, try the skinless chicken and definitely add the chilli. The only downside of this place is that it's cash only.
E. C.
Excellent Curry Laksa and today's special Prawn Noodles (Har Mee). One of the best I've had in Sydney.
N. W.
Best laksa.. extremely packed during lunchtimes... Already out of seats by 12:15 but patrons are still lining up.
M. Z.
One of the best laksas in town. Quick too. Good if you're in a hurry
S. K.
Its ok, not wow. Laksa has lots of noodle and soup, very little anything else. Need to order extra toppings.
R. M.
A wonderful place for authentic and spicy laksa. Perhaps the best in the city. Busy as heck on weekday lunch.
A. A.
The best laksa ever !!!!
C. M.
Great place for Laksa and Harmee, but have to arrive early or really late to avoid the peak times. The prices are great and the servings reasonable.
J. F.
Pretty good Laksa. Prepare to wait a few minutes. Same if you want seating during lunch hours.
b. g.
one of the best places for laksa in Sydney: wonderful flavor, generous portions, reasonable prices.
G. B.
Brilliant laksa, basic environment. Big bowl of laksa costs about $9. Friendly service, great value.
K. S.
Best laksa in Sydney CBD. Although to be fair I can't say for sure I have tried all of the laksa places around, but I have tried.
H. W.
One of the best laksa. Too crowded at lunch time, but the ordering queue keeps moving.
b. w.
I've been coming here on and off since my early 20s, now an oldie over 40. Still love it and still think it's the best in Sydney! Still the same fantastic family behind it all.
B. P.
Best laksa in Sydney. Period. Can be very busy at peak lunch time
J. P.
Best Laksa in the city. Line is always long around lunch (12-1pm) but also goes quick
N. B.
Excellent curry noodles and service. Great prices. Only wish there was as little more meat in the chicken curry - mine had like half meat half fat...
Q. X.
Was trying to find the best laksa in Sydney and found this place. Soup base is one of the best hands down.
J. S.
Best chicken rice ever!! Especially with the chilli sauce and pickle. So much better than other restaurants in Sydney have to offer
S. E.
Their laksa was so good that we even got a tale away. Char kwoey teoy is one of the best ever.
S. R.
Good value , great food. A must visit.
P. N.
It's pretty good for its location, food comes fast. Pretty clean. I liked the Hainan chicken but not the laksa.
M. H. T.
This place is super busy during lunch time but the service is very efficient. Cash only, ideal for a quick cheap meal. I ordered chicken rice and it's not super authentic but still yummy.
C. B.
Chicken laksa. Best in Sydney. Hands down.
Go get one. Can't speak full sentences. Eating delicious laksa.
Mouthgasm.

One of the best place for laksa. Been coming here for over 10 years.

T.
Very delicious laksa, I do recommend.
C. P.
Best laksa at this end of town, and a few other great dishes besides.

Easily the best laksa in town - make sure you get the skinless chicken, it's their specialty!
J. G.
Top quality Laksa at low prices and the beef rendang is also on point. Definitely becoming a regular here
E.
Busy. Very busy on work days. But quality food at reasonable price. Laksa is recommended!
C. T.
There is only one thing to say about this place. Best laksa in at least Sydney if not Australia.
L. T.
Humble unassuming place. Great authentic laksa, super tasty and decent portion size.
A. A.

The best laksa I have ever eaten. Well done!

K. S.
Great laksa. The spring rolls were good, too. Nice value for your money.
V. P.
Love this place for their laksa but was disappointed with the take away portion today- felt like half the size with just two king prawns.
P. C. A.
Have been going here since 1994..and taste has not changed🍜
Har Mee is my favourite prawn noodle dish and will be my 'last meal'
It's a 3 generation family fave😋
T. T.
Very tasty food as always.
m. m.
No need for a long description. Best lasksa n char kuew teeow hands down. Better than some in malaysia
M. H.
Delicious laska with self serve chilli, what more could you want. There is nothing fancy about the place but the food does the talking.
L.
Affordable prices, generous portion, quick service, and good food. A good walk away from Wynyard station but so worth the trouble. Always crowded during lunch service.
R.
The best chicken curry I have had ever! Go there for a feed with family or friends. Kid friendly too ✔😊
G. G.
I first visited this restaurant in 1997 and have been a top fan since then. Food is excellent, staff are very helpful.
O. D. (.
The research shows that it would be the best laksa in sydney, But I really think the red chair in perth is much better.
K. I.
I've been coming here for years.
By far the best Laksa in Sydney!

An outstanding family run business which had served the best laksa in Sydney for the last 16 years I've been eating here
Z. S.
Great curry laksa! I like that I can choose a chicken laksa with skin on, reminds me of laksa from home (Malaysia).
B. M.
A Sydney institution this place succeeds where so many fail. Delicious food across the board, great prices and non-nonsense service that always shines.

R. R.
Excellent tasty and inexpensive with very fast service. Be early and prepared to move on when you finish eating.
Harmee is only available on Tuesday and Friday
M. W.
Good laksa, hectic, the giant pot of free sambal paste is the best thing about this place though!
M. H. D.
Best Laksa in the Sydney CBD, worth the wait. Get the King Prawn with beef.
M. Z.
I had chicken laksa, soup is fantastic as usual, very very busy
