Received very good service from the staffs here, especially Kristie. She explained for us about the drinks and the foods very detail, very friendly and helpful. We had very good experience with this Viking restaurant for my partner’s birthday. Explore something that never tried before, special style of drinking beer by the horns. Will highly recommend people to try this place!
S. V.
Awesome experience! The welcome shots, atmosphere and drinks really helped get you into character for the Viking experience! Ordered the bone marrow, venison tartare and whole ocean trout with baby potatoes and thoroughly enjoyed it all. Definitely a unique dining experience!
D. y.
It was a great interest to experience Viking dishes from there. However, I was disappointed with a couple of things... We ordered Fish for the main, which is supposed to serve Grilled Trout on the menu, but They served Snapper instead without any notice and we felt being pushed before finishing all dishes. I would recommend if you are interested in an exotic Interior Design or something new experience for drinks.. But not sure about dishes from there.

As a man that loves all things Vikings, this was a must to check out and can I say it did not disappoint.
The drinking horns, the knives, the decor, everything was bang on.
Firstly drinks,
WOW, they had everything right for this period.
Some very interesting cocktails and some very tasty meads.
Secondly the food,
This is where this place SHINES, the food was bang on with everything and I mean everything.
The meat was the best.
Super tasty, was cooked to perfection.
The dessert was also perfect.
Lastly the staff,
They were very friendly and were always up for a story.
We will be back and hopefully, check out the Melbourne one too.
But what would I know I'm just a bearded guy that loves beer.

We waited almost 2 months to get a reservation here and boy was it worth it. From the moment you are seated, it’s an experience like no other. Our reservation was at 6pm and the restaurant was packed. Despite this, the service was personal and friendly.
Huge shout out to Caillin, she was a big part of why the experience was so great!
Food was also amazing! We had the feature which was lamb shoulder and it wowed us. It was fall of the bone tender and the crispy leeks went really well with it. Also you have to order the broccoli, I know it seems like a mundane dish, but this broccoli tasted like Odin himself made it.
A great experience that everyone should try! We will definitely be back!!
P. C.
Thanks Kieren and Joel for the extraordinary experience. The food was incredible. Loved the intense music. The atmosphere. Drinking whisky from the bone marrow and having beer from tusk glasses has definitely been a highlight. They have a menu of over 400 whiskeys. I recommend coming here with friends of four or more to have a grand time.

We had an awesome time at Mjølner in Sydney! Every moment in this underground restaurant was an experience! My partner had his beer in the horn and it was pretty wild! We also get to choose the table knives too. We had the bone marrow for the appetiser with extra whiskey shot via the freshly smoked bone marrow vessel for the birthday boy 🥃, the beef short ribs with maple mustard and whiskey glaze for main with perfectly cooked baby potatoes for sides. Boozy Pineapple Savarin for dessert was AMAZING!! Love the little flame show at the start then yummy boozy taste. Everything was very yummy 😋 Our host, Nikki, was wonderful!! We enjoyed every moment there😍
E. C.
If I could give them 6 stars I would. Every part of the experience was a delight, from the Viking looking chef carving meat as we entered, toasting the gods, choosing our knife for dinner and receiving a card and gift for my husband's birthday. A must do for fans of whisky and food.
M. C.
We came to celebrate my husband’s birthday. We had a feast of amazing well cooked real food. Fantastic flavours and combinations. Highly recommended. The broccoli and kale stood out but the masterpiece was the pork with crackling. To die for. The ambience and staff impeccable. ‘Em - our table host was absolutely amazing. The front staff were all great.
We will come back and bring our friends. Thanks for a great night!
I. R.
Amazing experience and customer service from everyone there! Every dish was a WOW dish and the viking theme was really really cool :) got to drink out of a horn, got a free shot when we were seated, picked our own knives(weapon). My partner and I celebrated our anniversary here and a whole bunch of them wrote a message in a card and they also gave a deck of playing cards 😊😊
What an incredible night, highly recommend checking this place out. Their drink options are super interesting!!
A. P.
What an incredible place! We came for a 50th birthday celebration and were blown away. The bar menu is intriguing, the food is to die for and the staff are amazing.
A smorgasbord for all the senses! If you are looking for something different, this is it! You will not regret coming here!!

Had an absolute epic experience here in Moljner!
The set up, the music played as you eat, the props and the candles does really make you feel you travelled back in time.
Special thank you to Caillin, whom served us for the night. She was authentic, approachable and entertaining. With that kind of presence, she made us feel comfortable, and really get the feel of the unique atmosphere. Not only that, as I was celebrating my birthday with my friends, the staff of Moljner gave me a beautiful remembrance and a gift to keep. So absolutely thank you for this! The service for me was 10/10. The cocktails were also all very creatively presented! Would have stayed longer but understandable that there is a 2hr limit as it can get busy there.
Ps. The pork belly and the beers were really good!!! Would definitely take more people here in the near future.
D. S.
This was such an amazing experience! From the delicious food to the extraordinary customer service here. A huge shout out to Nikki for looking after us on Saturday 8/01/22. Her hospitality, personality and helpfulness made us feel at ease and we felt so welcomed. It was my partner's birthday and every little detail made it special. She organised a candle on our dessert, prepared a personalised birthday card from the Mjolner team and also a birthday present too! Absolutely would highly recommend for a unique experience and the customer service here.
S. T.
Amazing food. Good portion. Amazing service. Great Ambience.
The Broccoli head is a must, regardless of the person being a vegetarian or a non- vegetarian. It was just so marvellous, I was automatically making the 'ummmm' sound 😆
Both the chicken and rib were good as well, but I am a little biased towards the chicken.
The knife selection, music and complimentary drinks were just another good experience.
Totally worth it. Would visit it again soon.
Side note: the restaurant is underground. We were lost and took us some time to realise that. Make sure you take a note of this.
C. H.
There is a wooden door with only a symbol to let you know you have arrived at your destination. You walk down the stairs to a dimly lit room with authentic wooden shields, leather booths and fur skins and you become completely emersed in the ambiance of a viking dining hall. Even the chef looks like a viking!
The food was excellent with everything being on the bone including a shot and a dessert! We had the set menu with a little bit of everything and by far everyone's favorites included the beef, the broccoli and the brulee.
We had the most fantastic night at Mjolner and the biggest part of that was thanks to Joel. He was friendly, welcoming and had amazing knowledge of the food and drinks. We were a particularly rowdy table of 8 and Joel not only matched our energy, but really added to the fun and excitement of eating at a themed restaurant.
Joel has the best cocktail recommendations and we gave him full control so unfortunately I can not tell you what we had but I can tell you that we loved every single one! Thank you Mjolner for a night not soon forgotten.
J. F.
This was an amazing experience. To find Mjølner, you must look for an unassuming door that has no signage whatsoever which makes it feel like an exclusive club where, if you don’t know it’s there, you’d never find it.
We were greeted but a guy who looked like a blacksmith from medieval times. Then we received a Viking blessing and learned to toast like a Viking!
Food was absolutely beautiful and reasonably priced for a specialty restaurant in Sydney. You get to choose your special knife for the night. You can also choose to drink out of a horn instead of a boring cup.
Overall an amazing experience.
A. O.
Great atmosphere and fantastic food. The bone marrow, meats, broccoli and bone marrow brulee was superb.
Felt a bit rushed having all the courses in a two hour time slot before the next sitting though.
A. P.
What an experience! Traditional food and asthetics to go with it. The decor was unreal and the music matched everything else.
The chicken, whilst most people would say it's just chicken, was DEFINITELY NOT just your average chicken... Do yourself a favour and order this.
Choosing your own weapon (steak knife) from handmade selections was definitely the top of the night.
That was until we may our way to the whiskey selection.. and wow! What a range, including this 35 year old delight.
D. L.
Stunning place to dine to experience an immerse viking experience! The staff were extremely accommodating and went above and beyond to be in character which offered an authentic experience. Look forward to visiting again!
A. O.
Absolutely awesome viking themed restaurant & bar. The atmosphere is so fitting. Food was incredible, the whiskey selection is massive, the beers out of the horns is epic.
Loved it there, and definitely will be returning!
R. C.
There is a little bit of novelty vibe to the place with welcoming shots and oath to the Viking gods. Finding the front door is the first challenge, next is reading the menu in the dark cavernous setting, or just go for the set menu option. Good selection of wines and plenty of food in the menu. You will not leave hungry. Some interesting cocktails to try out too. Especially the flaming bone whisky shot. A bit of fun with friends. Not really a romantic or family settings.
M. T.
This place was definitely an awesome experience. Finding the door was interesting as it looked like it led to some sort of dungeon/ basement haha. When you enter you'll be proceed to a place with a dark but intriguing scene. You'll first see the bar on the right and it looks classy af. You'll also be greeted by the waiter that'll take you on a small journey to your table and a narrative of what this place is. When you arrive at your table you'll be informed about menu and also be given some sweet mead. The food is exquisite and exceptional, the beverages are so good. There was a selection of knives you can choose, there was a horn as a glass as well, but it was definitely worth coming.
A. C.
Dining at Mjolner was one of the best culinary experiences of my life. Everything from the theatrics, to the decor, to the food. Each dish was absolutely to die for. Also the price point is amazing for the services and quality of food you get. I can't wait to bring more people here.
A. L.
Quite the novelty - tucked away with the only clue of the business being there being the logo on a door. Reservation required to ensure a seat. Decor was nice.
$72 for corned beef on a bone "beef short rib" and $15 for just cooked potatos. Gravlax starter and bone marrow desert amazing & must haves!
Whisky app clunky and difficult to use + not available for Android. Selection limited.
The staff made the place.
C. W. (.
Welcoming shot with oath to viking god would definitely bring your dining experience to the next level. We went around 5:30pm and it is already a full house. The vibe of Mjolner is one of a kind in Sydney, drinking shot via grilled beef bone was fun and adding the meat flavor to the whiskey shot. We are here to taste the the meat so end up ordering two main and one side. Special lam shoulder is so juicy and flavored, we don’t even need to dip it into the garlic cream spring onion source. However The renowned pork belly is a bit disappointed. The pork belly cut was too think and kind of cold inside.( maybe because it was waited for a while before serving to us) I would order beef instead of pork next time!
H. Z.
An amazing dine in experience. Warm decor, friendly staff. Food was delicious I definitely will be visiting again!!!
P. C.
Stepping through the carved wooden door, we were immediately taken by the decor and music. It felt like a museum! We held back the urge to go exploring and ogled the swords and shields from our seats.
We were welcomed to the table by Caillin with a shot of honey-sweet alcohol dedicated to the Norse gods. Their incredible energy and warm hosting made us feel super at ease to participate and be immersed in the experience brought to us.
The food and cocktails were incredible. A smoking beaker of eucalypt scented smoke accompanied the telling of the journey "Across the Fjord". The bone marrow starter was delicious - the little mushrooms that sit on top were so flavourful they should be illegal. The pork belly had a perfect crackling and was served with an amazing cauliflower puree. Our favourite dish of the night though was the trout. The soft, perfectly cooked flesh was lightly smokey from contact with a grill and served with umami-packed greens.
We also wanted to say thank you so much for the card. We had mentioned in the reservation that we were there for an anniversary and as we were leaving were given a beautiful card signed by the team. It was such a sweet touch to end a really special evening.
H. K.
We went there for son's 21st birthday, and had such an awesome time. I really like the atmosphere there, and it made me got drunk. Happy drunk~ Haha~ :) Staff are nice and kind, food and drinks are enjoyable. It was my first time to drink mead, and I really really liked it~!
I will definitely bring my family when they visit us from Korea. It will be an unique experience for them and I am pretty sure they will love it~!
특별한날에, 혹은 시드니 방문하는 가족이나 친구들과 색다른 추억을 쌓기 좋을 것 같은 바이킹 테마의 레스토랑이었어요~!
F. R.
Food was really nice! The portions are massive one main is probably enough for two people. The theme is very cool and they are extremely consistent with it. Awesome staff very friendly, very kind. Ordered the duck and it came with the head very cool 😎
C. &. C. M.
Caillin our host was freaking unreal! From the moment that you reach the big wooden door outside you know you’re in for a treat.
I can’t fault anything, the drinks, the food, the atmosphere, it was all so good.
Highly recommend to everyone, we will be back! Thanks Caillin, you rock girl 👊
C. F.
All i can say is WOW. We took my Dad for his 72nd birthday. From arriving at this hole in the wall, you are immersed into another world. We were greeted by Caillin the Elf, who handed us shots of mead to start our voyage, and Caillin impressed us with her service from start to finish. When my Dad is impressed, we know its something good. The food was amazing, even bringing Thor's hammer to the table for our family to take photos, and the kind gesture of a birthday card to my Dad signed by the team, made the night amazing. I highly recommend anyone to go to Mjølner for an amazing experience. One of the best nights, we have had for a very long time! Thanks Elfie for the service, and to the team for making my Dad's birthday a special one. SKOL!

Viking me, I want to be warrior culture, decadent vulture plunder & pillage, every village navigate the sea, longboat to be clash of steel, organic feel, I want to be impenetrable shield wall, kingdom fall Valhalla bound nomads, Victorious death glad Discovery of Vinland, Vigilance of Norse man Expedition by Erichson, conquest by Self assertion.
Have the pork.
M. H.
Great restaurant! The drinks are delicious (the ‘stone’ and ‘wood’ shots are amazing), as is the food (though be warned, the portions are extremely generous, we should have shared a main instead of ordering one each). The venison tartare is definitely worth trying, as is the broccoli off the sides menu! Good atmosphere and music. Shout out to the lovely Belgian waitress who looked after us, she was so attentive and professional. Would definitely recommend!
L.
This is a cool restaurant. The entrance is hard to find which I think they do it purposely. From the moment I enter I can tell it’s special. Staffs are very welcoming. The welcome drink is perfect, with a cute cup and the staff explaining story behind it. The shot is perfect not being too sweet with a honey taste. Follow up, they let us choose our knives, special and unique for each knife but not the best to cut. We ordered a few cocktails as well, not too bad, followed the recommendations from staff, they customized for us and surprisingly we like it. Just have a chat with them and they’ll figure out which beer, whiskey, wine or cocktail is the best for you. The roast bone marrow is perfect, with mushrooms in it, tasting like truffle with bone marrow, nothing to complain about it. You can ask for fire on the bone and they’ll pour whiskey on it for you to drink. Finally the mains. Short rib is perfect, nice mustard sauce and very soft taste. Grilled trout is fresh and cooked perfectly with a bit of salt taste. Crispy broccoli is spot on, a little bit too much salt on top, otherwise perfect. The $85 pork we ordered wasn’t as good as we thought. Meat is a bit tender and hard to chew, but the sauce is great. Overall, cool restaurant with nice mood and lighting, unique and entertaining staff. The only thing I’ll complain about is the time, it took them so long to serve us the mains. We entered at 5:15 and we have a time limit if 2hrs, but the mains only come around 7, which we ate a bit in rush, didn’t fully enjoyed the tastes of the meal.
F. B.
Wow, what an experience! The atmosphere was on point, the food was nothing to scoff at, and the mead was perfection. Truly, I was in Valhalla that night—I died and a Valkyrie called Jess carried me up to Odin, thank you so much for an awesome dinner!
J. K.
I was taken here for my birthday dinner last night and it was such an amazing experience. The moment we entered we were seated at the bar till our table was ready (we were 30 min early) the wonderful bar staff suggested the Mead and we had it in horn (highly recommend) they then suggested another cocktail which was so delicious (Northern lights). We were seated out our table on the dot an ordered the broccoli, potato and bone marrow side dish followed by the Beast (main dish) the meat literally fell off the bone. We ended up ordering more broccoli because it was delicious and I did not share the first plate. The staff were brilliant, food is something I will rave about and the whole ambiance was on point. Highly recommend this restaurant.
E. S.
A dining experience like no other - took my boyfriend here for his birthday and we had so much fun. We ordered two mains, two sides, desserts and a few drinks and it was very reasonably priced and we were beyond full. The meat was cooked beautifully and fell straight off the bone and the broccoli was to die for. The novelty of picking your 'weapon' to eat with and drinking from horns was great fun. We loved the Viking themed atmosphere of the restaurant and the staff were so lovely, they made the night very memorable. If you're thinking of going, do not hesitate. Well done Mjolner!
B. M.
We had an absolutely wonderful time! The ambience, the food and the drinks were all spectacular and we were very well looked after. A special thanks to Caillin for making our night so fantastic- you were a wonderful host and a true testament to the great spirit of this establishment. They are very lucky to have you on board. We will certainly be back!
L. O.
Friendly staff to greet you and the cocktails were delicious, however the experience was not matched by the food. The duck was their signature dish but was fatty and almost impossible to cut with our hand-picked knives.
A slightly gimmicky experience - good if you like a fun time with your friends, but not good value if you after a culinary experience.
I.
Food: the starters were definitely the highlight, especially the bone marrow. Some of the veggie sides were too salty. The mains were fine.
Service: the server & staff were very nice, but they took our drink orders and then kind of disappeared for the rest of the night. We didn’t get to flag someone else down til closing, by which time we were told our drink orders were not placed and we weren’t able to get our preferred dessert. It’s also a bit strange for ambience if they shut off the kitchen lights in what feels like the middle of dinner service. Maybe this is an issue that affects only the late seating.
I feel they should try to improve the service & organisation—the establishment is small and is not so busy for these kinds of issues to arise. I would recommend the cool drinks (mead!) and the bone marrow dishes.
N. S.
Very cool place That everyone must visit once at least
Food portion are huge so
I would say main plates are sharing plates
Food selection is now huge but it’s big enough to go again and try more
Cocktail selection is really good and in general lots of whiskey brands
It’s not cheap so except about 500$ for 2 people for a good dinner and plenty of drinks
J. O.
You’d probably walk passed this place not knowing it was there. The door opens to a wide staircase that takes you underground to a reasonably large space that is dimly lit that fits the Viking theme well.
We really enjoyed the beef rib, venison and pork all beautiful slow cooked that pulled apart so easily. The deep fried broccoli was awesome and the chap potatoes and radish were nice in the creamy sauce.
We’ll be back again it’s definitely worth checking out.
(Probably not the best for kids it’s more of an adults only restaurant I’d say.)
E. M.
It was a great experience overall, the food was amazing and the service was great, however the long wait from having the mains cleared and ordering desert wasn’t spectacular, and after ordering a cocktail and JUST receiving it, we were asked to move from our table to the bar 10 to 15 minutes before the two hour point from the reservation, until that point everything was great but the atmosphere was practically destroyed from that moment, despite walking in BANG ON the booking time. (So the two hour booking is more like an hour 45, maybe change it to a two and half hour booking period, because they clearly can’t deliver their service in the allocated time)
N.
We went here for my partner's birthday and it did not disappoint. The staff are amazing. So friendly and attentive. The food is exceptional. While it is on the pricier side, the servings are plentiful and the quality is five star. The drinks are amazing. The sparkling mead was a Favourite, refreshing and delicious. We ordered two entrees, two mains, two sides. We could not fit dessert in. Overall, we had a brilliant night and will definitely be back.
S. A. (.
Wow. First of all, the location is awesome. No big sign, no gawdy signage - simply a hole in the wall to a new world. A world that is excellently decorated and fit out. The staff were fantastic from the get-go, taking us through the drink menu, explaining everything wonderfully. Both food and drink orders were taken quickly and they were delivered just as fast! The quality of the food was great. Tastes were wonderful, and the crispy Broccoli... What the hell?!? Amazing!! Honestly would've rated higher if Google would've let me. Will be back again, everything was amazing.
B. P.
Not only was the aesthetic amazing, the staff were also incredibly friendly. I also have to say that this was the BEST (and I don't say this lightly) meal that I ever had. The meat was so tender that it literally melted in your mouth, and I have never been so excited to eat broccoli before in my life! The mead is a must have and you have got to drink it out of the horn. This place is worth every dollar!
J. S.
Was absolutely blown away and absolute must do if you're in Sydney! Food was great, staff were absolute legends and the Mead was the best drop I've ever had. Couldn't recommend enough so do yourself a favour and book a table. (Oh and definitely grab the Bone Marrow)
D. C.
Came here for my birthday at the beginning of 2022 and it was very interesting! The bar staff were very trained and made excellent cocktails, the atmosphere was dark and very cinematic - as though we were in a movie - but the food was disappointing. The bone marrow wasn’t that nice and the broccoli looked and tasted like it was deep fried with fish sauce? Very odd way to cook broccoli.. I was just expecting some lightly blanched broccoli. The knifes they present to you at the beginning of dinner turned out to be very blunt and the boar meat we ordered was gamy - not was I was expecting.
S. O.
We had a great night yesterday for our valentine celebration. The experience of dining is very unique.
The one that fall short and turned the night sour was when our waiter forgot to pack our leftover.
We had half a beautifully cooked tout threw away.
He assured us that after we changed our table to bar. He will bring our takeaway to us.
We gave up our table at 7.45pm so they can have next turn around. We had our dessert at the bar which was super cold and chill.
The bar waiter told us there is nothing they can do as they can’t find the leftover.
Well they offered mock tail for us but we are already so done.
So overall I must say they have make every effort to make dining experience good. It’s terrible silly mistake that kinda ruin the overall experience.
We spent $200 on our meal.
S. D.
Everything about the place was great, but a couple of things. We ordered and then our beer did not arrive till the end of our meal I don't understand how is can take you 40 plus mins to tell us there is no beer left or the pump is not working and then persisted for us to pay for the beers. I thought at least that should have been taken off the bill. The chicken was a little dry, but that was he first time it's happened. I think 3 stars is being nice for this one experience and I have been here 3 times before with no issues.
j. r.
The whole experience was amazing, the entrance is very discreet but when you get inside the staff are very inviting. Nikki was our server for the night she was amazing, always making me and my partner laugh and overall made the experience that more enjoyable. Even though covid is around i would highly recommend anyone to go i know for certain that ill be dining there again. Hint (look for the recessed door with the hammer on it)
C. T.
Hidden gem. Food was really good and the experience was great. Didn't have a cocktail but they looked like the goods. Would have been 5 stars but service, which was terrific at first, dropped off at end of our meal but we were at a late sitting so that might have something to do with it.
S. S.
What an amazing hidden restaurant/bar around redfern/Surry hills area. What a find. Love the ambience. Amazing food presentation, warm and friendly service. The meat was delicious and tender. I’ve never been so excited to eat broccoli, so delicious and the cocktails were outstanding. The best way to serve the cocktails in horns. Great experience. Highly recommend it. This place is worth every single dollar. Can’t go wrong.
J. M.
Super cool spot, really thematic feel. The staff, the menu, even the cutlery all sell an awesome Norse experience. Plus the mead is exclusive and super tasty 😁
Chocolate and bone marrow is an unexpected delicious combo.
H. P.
A true feasting hall for the modern Viking!
Absolutely delicious food, incredibly friendly and helpful staff, beers mead's and cocktails galore!
The Viking aesthetic and vibe of the place was so welcoming. Having the wait staff come over and toast your first drink was a really great way to introduce you to the menu. 10 out of 10, would recommend
J. P.
Really awesome and delicious food, great drinks selection and very attentive staff. Ambience is cool, a bit bondage and the music a tad loud, Viking tracks, but it's definitely a one of a kind. Recommended for sure.
W. T.
A must go to place if you are ever visiting from out out country or city. The quality of food is five star fine dining. I did not make a reservation that day, but luckily I was still able to sit at the bar and eat. Great experience and food here.
M. N.
Our friend Dante recommend mjolner, and oh my gosh was it a good recommendation.
The staff are amazing, the food and drink are excellent and the atmosphere and aesthetics are just brilliant.
11/10 would recommend and cannot wait to go again.
S. K.
Highly recommend the restaurant, it was a really fun Friday night experience for us as a couple. The reason I couldn’t give 5 stars was because of the overly salty broccoli dish and the blunt knives (the waiter also had them sharpened but they were still too blunt) which meant we couldn’t cut through out pork crackling and had to leave a lot of it. Other than that it was great and I will be recommending to friends!
J. Z.
Drinking from the Horn and picking your own knife was an interesting experience. Entres are average and almost passable. Main is good but I don't feel it's amazing food worth the price tag. Service is attentive so worth a visit if you've never been.
L. T.
The ambience of a Danish/Norwegian Mead Hall. If the horns and knives don't automatically make you want to go on a longship and pillage England then this place isn't for you.
Great atmosphere aside (there is some sort of constant Norse themed/music) the staff are absolutely wonderful, with the blessing of Odin, Thor and Loki that really lifts the drinks and food.
The drinks and simply the theatre of a lot of their cocktails and shots simply make this place worth coming back to.
Food wise can't go past bone marrow. In fact stick to the red meat and bone marrow and drinks and you will have a wonderful time.⁷
T.
Absolutely incredible. The food is out of this world, so tasty, amazing quality, superb presentation and just an absolute treat. Ordering beer and then being able to drink it from a horn is something I can easily say I've never had the pleasure of before now but my god, was it an experience. An incredible in-depth cocktail menu provides a poison for any tastebuds and the mead is also a must try. Overall vibe and atmosphere is 10/10, felt like a real viking hall and service was amazing. A must visit
R. N.
Very nice place like vikings, serves beers and mead in horns if you like, great service by the guys however one of the guy at the start was so much showing off as we are too busy and can’t give you table without booking and then we had our table in 5 minutes which they let us know by phone and people still coming in without booking and get tables!
Food was awesome, sides were great and they welcome you with a round of shot for the table which taste so good, nice cocktails as well 👍🏻
I. T.
Our waitress Kalin absolutely made the evening truly special and an actual experience. The advice on menu choices was spot on. Her gracious enthusiasm was never ever intrusive. She made sure we were all looked after at all times and made the evening an event not just a meal. Thank you
R. T.
I've been there with my sister and my wife on Wednesday 9 Feb and we had an amazing time. The place is incredible. Also we want to say many many thanks to Kristie who was the waitress that looked after our table, such a great customer service. I want to go back there for sure.
M. H.
Great staff, it really has the best atmosphere, the food is really good and huge serves. Yes it is Viking themed and it is played up, it is not overdone or fell too much of a sideshow, it was quite fun and well done. It cost us $250 for two with drinks out of horns, but you will not leave hungry and honestly the beef ribs were amazing. Skål!!!

A very very nice restaurant that is hidden away. If you're looking for a themed restaurant this is the place to go to. The staff are extremely friendly and very engaged with the restaurant theme. Must try their signature beverages to get the Viking theme. Food is amazing and the portions are enough to feed a Viking! No seriously they are big portions... Highly recommend to try if you're looking for something different.

Very impressive. Every service, ambiance, story has its own intension. Their food implies the visual reference of the spirit of Viking. It may be just a branding or an actual reference, whatever that is, you will soak yourself into this ‘Viking vibe’ once you step into this restaurant. You would feel special and somewhat sacred. It may looks like one of big attractions in Disneyland that has Viking theme and usually Disneyland food isn’t that impressive, but this one is different. I would definitely recommend this place to both visitors and locals. I want to revisit this place by writing this review.

Best dine out. The food was excellent and the experience was even more thrilling. They explain what we can drink (mead) in the horn, ask you to choose a knife for your mains and a free complimentary shot. The meat was cooked so darn well. I recommend to anyone looking for an experience and crave serious meat. Dine like a god in Mjolner. We had Venison for started, rinds and pork for mains, potatoes as side and Marrow brulee as a dessert ❤️. Love!

This was probably the best restaurant I've ever been to. The food was amazing the cocktails are so inventive. I ended up buying the cook book and the chef signed it. The decor is spot on the staff are super friendly. The only regret I have is I left it so long to come here. Will definitely be going back.

An excellent dining experience if your up for testing your culinary boundaries. Very expensive and having a 2hr eating limit took away some of the experience.

My partner took me here for my birthday, and WOW! The Viking theme is present, yet not so overt as to be cringeworthy, in particular the amazing staff, rather than putting on a pantomime act, simply let their real personalities show. The food was outstanding and generous in serving size. And at the end of the night I was given a Mjolnir pop up birthday card signed by the servers. Thank you for an amazing night. I will be bringing visiting family!
S. C.
Great food. Great service. Missus booked it as a birthday and it was really funny watching the table across from us recieve the card and his friend and girlfriend question why they got it when the boyfriend left to the bathroom, then go pale when my Missus asked me where my card was as we were leaving. Comedy gold. Kaylen (spelling?) was great.
L. C.
Amazingly themed with exceptional service. Plus the food and drinks were phenomenal. Lots of fun to be had at Mjølner for everyone! (Plus for the hardcore Norse mythology fans out there like my partner, it is an absolute dream).
Try the fish and the broccoli!!!

Oh what an experience
The entire Viking theme is more than just a theme. It's an immersive experience of a Viking feast. I wish I knew this earlier, wouldn't have had dinner before coming.
They've got game meat like Boar on special along with seafood and chicken options. Quite interesting and tasty starters and sides as well.
Cocktails are good and the experience of drinking Meade out of a horn is just unique and fun.
100% coming back for a full feast with an empty stomach. Kudos to the entire team of Mjølner for this experience.
S. K.
Incredible restaurant that provides an exemplary experience. Horns you can drink out of, knives that look like they belong in Skyrim, shot glasses that look like mini horns — you can’t get this elsewhere, and for that uniqueness I give Mjolner five stars! To be honest, the food wasn’t amazing, and I’ve had better dishes elsewhere at comparable restaurants, but the experience was so fantastic that I’ve given them five stars anyway. Will be back!

Incredible Scandinavian dining experience, highly recommended! Will no doubt be back soon

Amazing Viking themed place from the same team as Eau de Vie. Great cocktail list, with wide range of flavours including mead and strong liquours.
About 300 whiskeys available as well from various parts of the world.
The interior is well decorated with amazing themed music and a reduced but functional menu. Delicious food, expensive but well-crafted with an excellent chef.
Also has a rotating dish which happened to be duck at my latest visit.
They also provide you with your personalised knife for the experience, which is great fun. Expensive, but recommended.

To break Mjolner down, it was an experience.
The service was great, i'm unsure as to where people say the service is poor or rude, as the service was really really good. The head waiter was always on top of everyone, making sure everyones going good and having a good time.
The theme is awesome, music seems authentic and all round it is quite attractive. I would say you should go for the looks and the bar, having just over 400 whiskeys it was quite a sight to see.
Where Mjolner is let down is the food. Im not one to critique poorly, however for what you pay it is certainly not all that much.
The stand outs were the venison tartare, the bone marrow and the potato's, however the mains left something to be desired.
For the price, the short rib was quite small, and tough but still enjoyable to an extent, but i would say not worth the $60 price tag. The chicken again was quite nice, but lacked any real flavour. It was juicy, tender but just no real flavour.
The salad was kind of just a small value added filler, which i will not compliment nor complain.
To be honest, the food as a whole for what was paid was a bit underwhelming, however i will probably return purely for the atmosphere, service and whiskey.
Thanks Mjolner for the good night, your waitresses are great.

Some of the best food I’ve ever had! Can confirm, the broccoli alone is worth the trip, although the chicken is also 10/10. To top it all off, Caillin made the experience that much more memorable. Will definitely be coming back.

We have have come here multiple times and hard to believe they have outdone themselves once again.
What sets Mjølner apart is their amazing customer service. Tonight we were helped by Caillin and felt our meal was carefully curated beginning to end with such care.
Her knowledge of the menu and recommendations got us out of our comfort zone to try something new and we have no regrets!
We had another wonderful night at Mjølner and look forward to when we are able to dine here again.

We ordered the Take Home Feast for an early Fathers Day dinner. The meal and care that is taken in preparing it all is amazing! The online ordering process was super simple and customer service (Maddie & Caitlin) was fantastic. The dishes come cold with instructions of how to heat and present each part - the end result is great because you can prepare each course as you are ready for it and it’s lovely and fresh. The quality and serving sizes were awesome - we couldn’t get through it all so had leftovers the next day. Highly recommended and we will definitely be ordering again - a great way to have a gourmet meal in your own home. The Battle Axe cocktail was delicious. Thank you a Mjolner team!

This place is legit. I’ve been once just to the bar and got the cheese platter and cocktails. Scored a table for a Christmas dinner which was so cool. So much food to share. Cocktails flowing. Shots on fire. 🔥 Don’t waste your money on the expensive alcohol - concentrate on the food!

This is a must try in Sydney; I'd imagine the Melbourne branch is as great. Everything on the menu is pretty high quality. Drinks, entres, mains, sides and desserts. Service is 5 star, very welcoming and fast.

Had a great dinner. Wait person was great, had blond short hair, cannot remember their name, they will know who they are, I gave a tip that I cleaned with hand sanitiser, not a big enough one honestly. Food was amazing, service was exemplary, will be returning again and again. 10/10, best short rib. I highly recommend the bone marrow entree and the broccoli. You will crave that broccoli for the rest of your life. Good job.
J. C.
An experience to remember. We had the best seat in the house watching the head chef's performance as each dish was supervised under his watch before being served. The smoked trout was a real surprise and the roast pork just melted in your mouth. Beers in a horn is a must as well as a picture with Thor's hammer. Pity the Lamb ran out that night! Will be back for more viking style feasts.
T. K.
Sydney is lucky to have Mjølner and as a passionate foodie, I’m glad we have Mjølner. It’s a must visit joint. The venue is one of the best I’ve seen in Sydney, and the beer glass/horn is the most unique thing I’ve seen. Bone marrow was fantastic, oysters were creamy like butter and pork was cooked beautifully. Service was top notch and It basically ticks all the boxes! Highly recommended
H. P.
Our server Caillin made the experience so much more personal and enjoyable, the food was incredible and the overall experience was immaculate. Best birthday dinner by far, definitely will be coming here again!
T. K.
Honestly couldn’t of chosen a better venue to celebrate my anniversary. Our main waiter for the night Lucas did an absolutely amazing job bringing the Viking atmosphere together topped off with a beautiful arrange of meads and cocktails and the food was just devine! Can’t wait to come back and experience it all again.
Thankyou team for such an amazing night and for the gifts as well :3

I was having dinner with some friends in there last week. The place is amazing, is like if you really were in a Viking pub in the Middle Age 😊. Food was taste and stuff veery friendly. I loved the playlist too. I recommend this place cause is something different and genuine!
R. S.
Omg where do I begin?? Everyone was so sweet. The place was full of good energy and the decorations were just gorgeous. Our awesome waitress Nicki (sorry if i spelt it wrong) helped us throughout the night. AND THE FOOOOOD 🤤 was to die for (chef’s kiss) the beef melts in your mouth 🤌🏼. They said that we could share the plate but I’m glad we got 2 main courses because it was so delicious I couldn’t share haha. Their drinks were absolutely lovely and fresh and the overall experience was 20/10. You definitely get your time and money’s worth!
B. C.
The experience was amazing, a little pricey but well worth it for the portions of food you receive and the experience the staff offer. The moment we were seated our waiter introduced themselves followed by offering us shots and saying a traditional viking prayer! Its a very surreal experience and would definitely go back sometime soon. Plus you drink beer from a horne whats not to love there
M. N.
Amazing food and atmosphere, the drinks gave a great vibe to the place.
Our server Caillin was awesome!! She brought great energy to the table!!!!

My fiancée and I went for his birthday dinner and we had such a lovely experience. The staff were so incredibly friendly and helpful and the food was beautiful and so delicious. It is truly a Viking experience. So unique and fun. We had a wonderful time. The staff even gave my fiancée a birthday card with all of them signing it! A big thanks to Andrea for her friendly service.
H.
Amazing Viking themed restaurant, food was fantastic. Serviced by Kaitlyn, was an absolute treat. I'd recommend the bone marrow, beef rib and broccoli.
B. L.
Never go alone, best in groups of 4 or more. You will feeling like a Viking for a day! Drink mead(Viking beer) from a horn! Food that would make the knees of Norse gods weak. You will sleep for a month after this!
great experience, and great staff.
B. W.
Went last night with my mates, had without a doubt the best restaurant experience of my life, my lil Norse pagan heart couldn’t handle the atmosphere, people talking and drinking, and just generally loving life, it’s exactly what I imagine a Viking homestead would have been like during a celebration, the food was immaculate and even this morning my mouth is watering for the short rib and pork dishes, the cocktails and mead were beautifully made and presented our server was absolutely lovely, I can’t remember her name to save my life, but I hope she settles into Australia from Mexico and loves it here!
K. F. F.
The perfect blend of sticking with the theme while keeping it modern! The food was lovely, and came with a few fun gimics, which made for a delicious and entertaining evening.
A. C.
Cool atmosphere and vibe. They went all in on the Viking theme. Drinks were very good. Great selection of cocktails. Food was good but nothing stood out and is on the pricier side.
B. W.
Found this place online and it looked interesting ... turned out to be a great find :-) . You enter through a nondescript doorway marked with Thor's hammer and walk down into the bar area. We were throughly entertained by Hayden (one of the bartenders). We had some great cocktails and I drank beer from a horn (first time I have done that)! Once we were seated we were attended to by the lovely Ami & Elizabeth who were both attentive and engaging even after the restaurant got busy :-). Once seated and having ordered some drinks, Ami filled our viking style shot glasses with complimentary Mead ... yum! Ami then presented us with a selection of hunting knives to choose for the dinner to come (see photo). We ordered the bone marrow and once finished I took the option of a whisky shot ... so Elizabeth burned the remaining marrow before getting me to hold the bone to my lips as she poured the whisky shot into my mouth ... great fun :-) . We had the short ribs for the main and was cooked perfectly. Sides of cauliflower and baked whole carrots were absolutely delicious. We loved the restaurant, the staff, the food, the atmosphere, ... well we loved everything :-) . Special thanks again to Hayden, Ami, & Elizabeth.
See attached pictures.

Second time visit and still enjoying the novelty of the theme.
Menu has changed but food is still just as delicious.
Lives up to the hype and highly recommended for large groups!
Vegetarian and pregnant friendly 👌🏼

What an amazing venue, such and authentic atmosphere. The food is divine, with the beast special and a couple of sides being enough for two people.
The drinks menu is comprehensive and Elizabeth is a lovely host, and very knowledgeable. She made our evening fantastic.
The menu is seasonal, and the summer options are delicious.

Damn! This place is amazing. Atmosphere was on point and the theme was super entertaining. A Viking themed restaurant is exactly what you need to try at some point in your life.
It started with a quick trip to the bar (we got there early) for a few drinks. The bar staff were friendly and knowledgeable. Always a plus!
We then moved to the dining area where we pretty much had shots waiting for us. On the house! A Viking welcoming it seems. Delicious.
I fee as though I don’t even need to go into the food. It was on point. I don’t know how to say it enough. Go here. Go here. Go here. You will not regret it. I promise.

Absolutely fantastic! Went with 7 others so had the set menu and it was delicious. The cocktails are different to most bars in the city, one even gets served with aromatic ‘smoke’ which adds to the experience.
Entrees were a different experience for me as it was the first time eating bone marrow but it paired perfectly with the mushrooms. Then we had the salmon (Gravlax) and the carrots which were lovely.
Mains we had the pork, chicken and the trout which were all perfectly cooked and included the skin and crackling which got a lot of satisfaction from our group :) the pairings and sides were also awesome, like in other reviews the broccoli was just the right amount of crispy and salty. There were comments that the kale rivalled the broccoli as well - served with the pork belly.
Desserts we had the pear and the bone marrow brûlée, the only disappointment was that we were so full from the other courses that we couldn’t finish it! They were absolutely mouth watering-ly good and if you want a sweet fix I couldn’t recommend these more.
To top off the experience the staff were also brilliant, making sure our cups were full and having a laugh with us which definitely made my night. If you’re looking for a little bit of a different dining experience I would absolutely recommend it, it’s 11mins from central and 13mins from Redfern station so very easily accessible.
They also accomodate to patrons who need mobility aids as well as they have a wheelchair lift. The bathroom is also unisex and very clean.
10/10 experience, we can’t wait to be back!
M. O.
Well crafted atmosphere. Definitely not a rowdy violent Viking bar with noise and mess. This is a classy, well run, establishment with decent expectations from themselves and their clientele. Meals were perfectly cooked and presented, the banquet was satisfying and varied. They had alternatives for Vegetarians and gluten intolerant. They even accommodated the children. Staff was professional but very friendly and down to earth. A few very generous surprises during the night made it a good evening to remember. The bathrooms were clean, the atmosphere fresh and clean, the decor well picked. Definitely recommended.
A. W.
What an awesome dinner. From the moment we got there we were greeted by the friendly staff both at the bar and the restaurant. Was a unique experience with awesome cocktails and delicious food. Strongly recommend the bone marrow starter and the pork belly main. Did get a bit loud in there when a large group rolled in but other than that a really great dining experience.
R. K.
Mjølner truly brings the dining experience into another level! From the moment you open the door (it’s hidden - so you have to spot it), you will be transported into the Asgard! The Viking crews will steadily greet and give you a celebratory welcome drink in a horn.
If it’s your first time, best to order a few appetisers and mains for sharing. The roast carrots are surprisingly enjoyable, crispy on the outside yet warm, sweet and soft in the inside, while the venison tartare gives you a cheesy milky feeling. For the main, we tried the Special’s of the day, which is the Duck Rotisserie. Sweet, tender and very fatty!
For the drink, there are options for cups or horns (500 mL) - beers or mead. Tried the Son of Odin - which is the mead, made of sparkling honey wine, so it’s pretty light and fizzy and have a sweet aftertaste.
Totally recommend this place for those who are Thor and the Norse mythology fans or for those who miss travelling to far far away places.

Bone marrow for entree & for dessert! Wow! This joint...! Amazing drinks! Amazing Atmosphere! Creative dishes... For each dish (entree/main/dessert) you'll want 2 or 3 things, and pick one, and think that maybe you should have got the 'other' thing, only to receive your dish and think... "Yep, this worthy of the Gods!!" The cocktails are epic! This is a unique experience - Fun, magnificent, JUST GO!!! Fantastic staff... you'll love it!
M. B.
Had a fantastic time here, the food is wonderful and the drinks are absolutely out of this world. The staff were super friendly and the atmosphere was something special. If you're even remotely interested in Vikings, do yourself a favour and go!
F. L.
Amazing atmosphere, cocktails and food! Pork belly wasn't as crispy as I would've liked but all the dishes were still very tasty. The kitchen and staff were very busy. Really feels like youre in a different world! Small touches add to the experience - "weapon of choice" for mains. Book to avoid disappointment.

We love coming to mjolner, our second time was Wednesday night to celebrate our anniversary and we had such a great time! The food was amazing as always, the drinks were delicious. You get to drink mead from a drinking horn and choose your own knife from a selection of awesome handles. The staff were so friendly, funny and accommodating. Our server was amazing, she had great banter and was very attentive. They even gave us a special anniversary gift and made us a card and signed it for our anniversary. What a special night thanks mjolner.

My partner and I had a wonderful time celebrating his birthday tonight. Even though we booked the wrong date, the staff was very understanding and accomodated us. Upon arrival, Nikki who was our waitress helped set the mood by reciting a fun verse and giving us complimentary shots. Our food was cooked to perfection and arrived at a timely manner. I wanted to compliment how friendly and attentive Nikki was as she always checked in with us to make sure everything was ok. Thank you for the amazing experience. We will definitely be back 😊
J. C.
Fantastic experience! Staff were friendly and helpful (with excellent suggestions). Food was excellent and there wasn't a long wait between courses!

It's a really nice place , food is really good and the waitress was really nice . We love the experience!

The food & service are incredible!! I’ve booked the table to take my friend to celebrate his birthday here. Their service is very touching and lovely. They make us feel so special. My friend even got a present unexpectedly. This even my first time that I came here. The food are all amazingly delicious. I could say it for all 5 people that ate together, they LOVED IT. The size is also very generous. One main dish could be share for 2-3 people so the price is worth what you’ve got. I would definitely going to come again here on my birthday! They are AWESOME!!! All my orders are recommended;
Starters: Gravlax, Roast Bone Marrow
Mains: Roast Pork Belly, Rotisserie Chicken
Sides: Crispy Brussel Sprouts, Baby Potato
Dessert: Skånsk Äppelkaka, Bone Marrow Brulee
Cocktail: Northern Light
Beers: The first in the menu is my favorite, couldn’t remember the name. Odin’s favorite is also my mom’s favorite too. It’s sweet like honey but still feel the beer.
M. T. H.
Servers are great, we had the duck it was delicious. The bone marrow starter was so so. I was looking forward to having the broccoli side as a lot people seemed to recommend it. Unfortunately the broccoli was so salty that we could not even eat it. One let down was the huge waiting gap between our starters and mains. We were getting so hungry and dizzy waiting for our food that we ate in such a rush when it arrived. It was also my partner’s birthday and management called me the day before that they would arrange something special for him but sadly we didn’t receive anything.
V. M.
Good place for sharing plates, the mains definitely have two serves in them. The meats are cooked well and are mostly with simple seasonings and sauces, the table favourite was the beef short ribs. The trout was also good but could have used either a sauce or extra seasoning to be more flavoursome. Just felt like there would have been more components or flavours to meat plates. The sides were simple and mostly felt like fillers.
The cocktails are definitely unique though are quite pricey, had a friend spend more on drinks than the food we split!
The desserts definitely need a rethink, grilled pineapple with ice cream on top became really unpleasant to eat as it quickly turned in to melted ice cream and cold grilled pineapple, sadly. The apple brulee was not what I expected but tasted good.
Feels like this place is quite overhyped, we had to wait 10 minutes to have someone seat us for our booking, picking different sized knives makes cutting and eating food difficult and the price doesn't match the food. I really wanted to love this place but it didn't quite meet expectations this time.
D. R. L.
Its like your walking downstairs, into a dark dungeon, taking your mind back into medieval times. Once inside your eyes adjust to see a well stocked bar, long wooden tables and viking paraphernalia hidden around. It's a fantastic concept and will be a huge success. In a party of 6 we where able share many a variety of entrees, main meals and sides, providing us a taste sensation. All food is top quality and extremely flavoursome. The side dishes are amazing. Very hard to pick a favourite, as all is well prepared with care and pride. Wait staff are very friendly, courteous and help you enjoy your dining experience. Well done, hard work pays off.
L. M.
Good food and setting, the service and cocktails are what makes it spectacular. Can’t remember the guys name who served us but he definitely took the experience to another level!
A. C.
Small selection of food but really lovely quality. The set menu was delicious but would have been nice it the food was also pre-cut for us for easy serving. Also, need to rethink the knives gimmick - not very practical and it's really hard to eat with! I would rather use the normal tableware.
K. J.
Great place with amazing food and cocktails! However, the second time the stuff was not very up with that game so my friend waited 20 minutes for glass of wine (and asked 3 times) while inwas getting the cocktails in 5 minutes.
Nevertheless, I will still go in the future and will keep recommending to people.
H. M.
The concept is great, decor, choose your weapon knives, experimental cocktails, beer horn delivery, Skhal glass welcoming, the team all great - Elizabeth - she is incredible host that made it the fantastic night it was. Feeling of the past with the horns, helmets, concrete and wood and great cutlery. Pricey but it's about the experience.
E. P.
Fantastic experience, dinner was amazing with melting meat to die for! Waiters were super lovely and really made the experience. We will be back!
J.
Second time dining here, and won't be my last! As a big Norse buff, I was worried this place would be a sell out.... but it is so far from it. To authentic decor, staff attire, welcoming Skal and follwoing traditions, even to the names of the drinks. No detail has been spared.
Double the love on this end for their amaze vegan options! Considering it's a Viking restaurant, you'd assume vegan options would be far from attainable, but there is a great selection of sides, sauces, entrees, cocktails and a main option. (They get mixed up too so it's not the same meal each time).
The atmosphere is great - moody and open, has that dining hall vibe in a modern sense. A little on the pricier side, but we'll worth it. The only thing I wish was different was the music LOL - Give me Nordic tunes
S. D.
Mjølner is a fantastic choice for a night out. The food was delicious, the drinks are amazing, the atmosphere was exciting, and the staff are wonderful.
Caillin looked after us, and we had a blast. It's always great to deal with someone who is so committed to making sure that you're having a great time, especially when you can tell that they're having a great time too.
Caillin, the effort was very much appreciated. Thanks for all your brilliant recommendations and for being so great all night.
We'll be recommending Mjølner to anyone who'll listen.

Meals are generously-portioned and of top-notch quality, though quite pricey. Drinks are pretty refreshing as well.
Just make sure you book in advance if going close to Christmas as a lot of companies will book out tables.

Came in with a large party on a Sunday night, sat at two adjoining tables. Service was super friendly and had a great vibe. Food came out well paced and everything was delicious. Overall a great night, would highly recommend to anyone.

Great service from front of house to back of house, by far one of the most helpful, friendly and fun restaurants I have ever visited in Sydney. The staff did an amazing job at explaining the menu and the atmosphere was incredible. Would give it 10/10 and would definitely recommend this experience to my family and friends who are looking for great memories. Staff were incredibly accomodating have never experienced this type of service in Sydney. Thank you for raising the bar Mjolner!

Girlfriend took me here for my 25th birthday. An amazing dinner with attentive staff. Complimentary drinks when you’re seated and everything is simply amazing. Worth every penny! Make a booking as place gets full.

Amazing atmosphere. Food was nice but perhaps I misunderstood the cuisine as it wasn't as flavoursome as expected. Short rib was incredible though. Helpful staff. Good amenities.

Music beats your soul, atmosphere takes you to Vikings journey not to forget the skul with the horn and taste of the food drools your mouth.
Thanks for the surprising gift, it was fantastic experience, thanks for the waitress and the chef for their hospitality

Exceptional customer service, one of the best places I’ve eaten at in an extremely long time. Thankyou Caillin aka elf for the best customer service EVER! Appreciate you looking after us all and making my dads 72nd birthday amazing!

What a treat. I recommend all the crazy stuff on the menu if your want the full immersive experience. The vibe of this place is unmatched.

Went here recently for my dad's birthday dinner and we all really loved it. The restaurant's unique door is a little hard to spot from the street but look for the Viking symbol on the door. When inside the atmosphere is cosy, dark and (tastefully) in the Viking theme. You're welcomed with a complimentary Viking mead/honey flavoured shot each. The food portions are quite large so for my family of four adults we ordered 2 mains, 2 sides and 1 dessert all to share. The cocktails are fancy and fun - with options to drink in a classic horn. The staff were really professional, attentive and friendly - making my dad's birthday really special (even presenting him with a little gift). There's lots of fun elements to enjoy like shouting Skol and even choosing your weapon" (your knife to carve up the meal)!

What can I say, this place is amazing. The staff are so wonderful and friendly, the food is incredibly tasty, the drinks are interesting and delicious and the decor and atmosphere is great! I’m sad I only just came to Mjølner, I wish I would have gone before now as it’s so awesome and I wasted many opportunities for a great feast. I’m super keen to go back. Loved it.
A. B.
I had been dying to come here since I first saw a video on Facebook over a year ago, and I was not dissapointed! The food was delicious and plentiful, the cocktails were fascinating and tasty, and the staff were all friendly and attentive without being overbearing! Great little merchandise stand too, which I would have gladly bought more from!
I will warn that it is not cheap, but the experience is worth every cent! From choosing your own dinner knife to sitting with a meat fridge behind your head! 😂 It was all a viking loving gal could wish for! I would recommend to anyone looking for a dining experience like no other, and cannot WAIT to go there again!
As a side note I think the only thing that I didn't feel quite "meshed" with the ambiance was the music... but that may have just been me and my love of pagan metal. 😋
Skål!

Mjølner had an amazing atmosphere, the staff were awesome and the place was filled with artifacts true to the Norse! The food was absolutely amazing, if a tad pricey, and had a great selection of meats, and even a vegetarian option. Quite a unique and epic experience! Truly worthy of the name Mjølner!

The best dining experience I've had in a long time. Service is impeccable, attentive, friendly and personal. Atmosphere is sublime - with a Nordic inspired chic, making me envious to design a mancave in the same decor. The beer choices are great, the whiskey selection phenomenal, and the food excellent (though on the pricier side - but then I'm told that this is Sydney for you).
Finding the place was a bit of an adventure. The nondescript door - a large wooden behemoth with the Mjolner symbol (and some security cameras) - is the only thing that greets you. But once inside the warmth of the area is inviting. We were greeted and seated, offered our beer of choice to come in a horn, and then also given the choice of our personal steak knives for the evening. They could have been sharper, but wow already our expectations are high.
On the food, it was suggested that my friend and I order separate meals and share the dishes. Fantastic idea.
For starters we shared the Roast Bone Marrow with powdered mushrooms and fermented mushrooms, and a Venison Tartare with wild rice miso and pickled beetroot. The bone marrow was cooked perfectly, seasoned lightly, and had a gorgeous creamy fattiness about it. The Venison tartare was a treat, with the richness of the meat and the miso balanced by the pickled beetroot.
For mains we shared two beast meals - the grass fed Short Rib with onion soubise, pickled onion rings and grass (!), as well as roasted Pork Belly with red cabbage, apple miso butter, and a mustard seed sauce. The pork belly was cooked perfectly and the apple miso butter sauce was a genius match. The short rib was a delight - tender and fall off the bone.
With our stomachs nearly bursting we opted to share the dessert - the Skanks Appelkaka which boasts the description of: rye crumb, custard, apple, rum, fire. Yes, fire. Our waitress heated up a small pot of rum and doused our dessert, allowing the alcohol to burn off and turn the crumb into an addictive crunch on top.
Well done. I hope to be back again soon!
K. J.
Great vibe the second you walk in. Themed but in a funky classy way. Amazing bar and cocktails. Sensational menu (small, but well planned and everything was delicious) and service great. @Elizabeth was absolutely amazing and made the night for our table. Mjølner not 'cheap', but well worth every cent for a fun different night out. Highly recommended. Will go again.

A true Viking experience....wonderful atmosphere, excellent food and a great selection of beers and mead to drink from your own 'horn'. Special mention to Caillin who looked after our table so well...always there to help, friendly and made our night one to remember
G.
By Oden thou was most gratified by this subterranean haven’s offerings. The horns are a requirement for any toast to greatness and ancestors long past but their glory still admired. The venison, all though gamey, fell off the bone like an orc to an axe. For eyes bigger than ones stomach, the pork belly is most encouraged- devour that beast, and let the juices roll down thine chin. For food of the ground, the carrots should not be forgotten, but welcomed like delicious friends of old. We shall return soon for ANOTHER!! 🍻

This place is incredible! Such an amazing atmosphere, lovely staff and mouth watering food. We will return again!
B. W.
No spoilers. Mjolner matches good food with an experience. From the moment you find the entry, to walking along the bar, all the way to paying the bill, the restaurant is consistent with the theme.
Great for date nights and unique. We found ourselves smiling through the night over the details the establishment had thought of. The staff were a little too "prescribed" and need to let go of the script.
Food was great, a bit on the heavy side (not a bad thing!). The bone marrow is a must. The chicken fat corn was utterly disappointing compared to what was described. By the end of the night you'll be walking out of Mjolner like fat Thor.
E. N.
Really nice fancy viking dinner experience!
Drink on your own horn!
Customer Service was excellent!!! Thanks guys!
Food quality and drinks was top notch.
Really pleased with the whole evening!
Please make your reservation with anticipation.

Stunning atmosphere. Impeccable service and great dinning show. Pretty tasty but lacking in options. Dishes are really simple, as per description. They recommend you to order always a side option. One vegetarian option to be improved.
J. S.
Wow, what a venue!
The four of us loved the food, and great service from Ami.
I just hope the menu changes seasonally, because I can't wait to go back!
J. T.
We ate here two weeks ago and had Caillin as our server, who is absolutely wonderful and made our night extra special!!! The venue makes you feel like you've stepped out of Sydney and into a whole different world. We loved the food and was especially blown away by the duck, it was the best I've ever had!! We absolutely adore Mjolner and will be back soon. And thank you again to Caillin!!!!!
C. M.
Meals were okay but soooo unhealthy I felt so sick by the time we left. Anything that is green and could possibly break up all the fatty meat is deep fried. Having said that the pork and the short rib were really tasty. The entrees we ordered weren’t so good though - the Venison tartare was very hard to eat, overly salted and the ‘fermented’ blueberries were inedible. The marrow was okay but sickly, too fatty. But maybe that’s just my taste? The restaurant was super gimmicky too, probably should have expected that, music was horrendous though. Wouldn’t go again or recommend it. Also very expensive for a theme restaurant.
K. T.
Viking themed restaurant with Viking type food, drinks, decor and music. A fun change from more typical restaurants. A bit noisy for conversations. Better venue for groups rather than couples.
J. C.
Absolutely lovely visit, the food was great and the drinks were amazing. Loved the theatrics of the bone luge and the horns. Big thanks to Caillin who wasn't our waiter but went out of her way to make our night!
V. L.
We didn't manage to get a spot in the restaurant (there's a 3 week waiting list) but you don't need a reservation to eat at the bar. While the bar menu is limited, I highly recommend the Mjolner Trencher & definitely share it; it's not only huge but also succulent!
The bar staff were so friendly & knowledgeable, & the music makes you wish there was a dance floor. Make sure you aren't driving or at least have a plan B like a taxi because you'll want to drink everything on the menu. Phillip was an absolute champion to look after us!
R.
This place wasn't the easiest place to find even with Google maps. ( as there is no sign for the restaurant)
Finally found the door and went down the stairs. The decor and layout was amazing 😍
We were immediately seated and was greeted with a free welcome drink.
We ordered a few cocktails and beers. The cocktails were nice and strong.
You can select your knife of choice from your waitor, which was pretty cool. Food menu was simple and the food was amazimg
E. G.
Omg. I was amazed by this place! The food was delicious. We ordered prawns cut in half came with 2 serves. And the bone marrow for entree. Delicious! And for the mains we ordered the Venison shank to share with the Brussel sprouts and corn sides. Blown away! Service was amazing too they offer you a shot before you start your night. Your beers are served In horns. This place is definitely unique 👏🏽. Job well done.
R.
It’s very easy to walk past this place but once you walk through their wooden doors into a below ground restaurant, you are immediately transported to a past era of the Vikings. Beers are served in big horns and their selection of cocktails is excellent! Staff are dressed in Viking clothing to give you that authentic feel. Their lamb is delicious and so is the bird. Moderately priced but worth the experience, highly recommend!
M. S.
Myself and my partner have had the pleasure of dining here 2 nights in a row as a part of our vacation, the food left us speechless, meat that falls off the bone and drinks fit for the gods themselves, the service was beyond expectations, the staff are very friendly and genuinely care about your experience and by the end of our night we felt like we actually made a friend. A restaurant fit for Thor himself.
Skål!
R. H.
Brilliant night from start to finish, the fun of choosing your blade & drinking out of horns the welcoming mead shot before the meal,Cheers Ben! The happy, professional servers & bar staff just added to the great atmosphere. Manager Alex filling us in on the history of the building & making us feel welcome when one of our group was running late. The cocktails are all excellent & we tried a few...the food is all amazing! beef rib, lamb & pork was devoured with pure delight, the favorite for the night was the bone marrow starter. We just wish we had more time to have desserts but we didn't want to over stay our booking slot for the next lucky people waiting and the staff found a table for us to continue enjoying the amazing drinks at the bar. Also watch people's faces sitting at the bar as they realised Thor's Hammer isn't just for decoration but has Whisky to be poured from the handle for a little night cap if you wish!. After following the launch of this place since it's early fit out stage & collaboration with a Stockade brewery with Odins beer on opening i just wish i hadn't waited for so long to finally experience the delight of Mjølner.
M. 2.
Top spot. Mead was very tasty. No Coke available which was disappointing and the cocktails shut off before last drinks were called.
L. i. R.
It's a different experience in a good way place. Food is amazing, little bit too salty for me but still very delicious. Drinking beer in a horn is very interesting and fun. Dessert is very delightful with a very well presented. Staffs are very friendly and professional. It's a good place for celebration or special occasions.
S.
Something went wrong with the booking online but the staff were awesome and allowed us to have our dinner. Real viking ambiance, and choosing your own personal knife is original, would have bought mine if it was possible. Coktails and food were good but a bit overpriced in my opinion.
When the booking caution have been auto debited, staff made it right and refunded it.
Great overall experience. Will certainly return.
L. R.
Fantastic fun! Mjohler has an inconspicuous entrance leading down a dimly lit staircase that really sets the tone. The viking decor is amazing and really gives you the whole longhouse vibe. The food is AMAZING and the cocktail list will challenge. Staff are fantastic and really go out of there way to ensure u are having fun. I'll be back!
E. D.
Delicious food and drinks and amazing service!
We had the bone marrow and gravlax to start and pork belly for mains, all of which were extremely good quality produce.
These guys have a huge cocktail list, beers, wines and over 500 whiskies so there is really something for everyone. Lots of the drinks, particularly beers, come in drinking horns and to start your meal they offer a honey & mead aperitif which all really adds to the Viking/Nordic theme without being cheesy.
The service here is really excellent. All of the staff took time to explain the menu and portion sizes of the dishes to make sure we were ordering exactly what we needed. They were also really entertaining without being intrusive on the meal.
M. C.
Had a great dinner here. The staff were very lovely and friendly. They currently have this great lil starter to break the ice by teaching us the Vikings way of cheers with a small glass of mixed drink in these adorable glass cups. Although the food menu isn't extensive, it harks back to the Viking era and taste wonderful. They also have some select beers that you can drink out of a horn. An overall fun and tasteful experience.
A. O.
I dined here on Saturday and it was amazing. Great cocktails, outstanding service and unique Scandinavian food, make sure you are ready to feast as the plates are huge.
K. D.
This restaurant would be best described as a dining experience. It's fun to witness once, however there is nothing that would beg for a second visit.
The food was okay. The half shell prawns for starters were wonderful. Ribs & pork belly for mains were good too. However, the chicken fat corn I would definitely not recommend. Save yourself the trouble of trying that dish.
Service in general was a hit and miss. The server that was looking after my partner and I, was not the most pleasant according to go him.
M. L.
Fantastic place, loved everything about it. Music - scandinavian rhythms, wood and metal, feels very authentic. Waiters wore masks (of course), which did not stop them from telling us all about Vikings drinking traditions and their Skal which was honey, mead and some alcohol was exactly what I needed on a cold night after long week. They also have a surprising recipe how to cook broccoli so it's edible.
L. C.
Honestly one of the best experiences at a restaurant I have had. Excellent service and staff, amazing decor that really gave off a great vibe, excellently presented food and perfectly cooked. This is absolutely a MUST try. An absolute treat and now one of the few places I will continue to return too without hesitation. Thanks for the amazing experience and food!
H. L.
This was everything I wanted out of a Viking experience, except the terrible music. Great friendly service, lovely and informative, we were given time to enjoy our meal, but were still checked in on. The food was out of this world, they even accommodated me as a vegan with my meat loving friends, and everything was so uniquely tasty! Every cocktail we tried was amazing! The atmosphere is decorated but not over done. However the ridiculous club hip-hop music was so out of place it bordered on ruining the experience, it was actually distracting. Everything was so spectacular, we just felt that had they also themed the ambient music, it would've really taken the experience to perfection. Keep up the great work, I hope to visit again
G. H.
Very fun restaurant with amazing food and drinks (try everything)!! I did go on a weekday so it was quieter but we had great service. Best to go in a group so you can try more food. Even getting the bill is semi-exciting... ;)
T. B.
Wonderful place with a real nice environment. That almost hidden door in Redfern created an amazing experience. I had the Rib perfectly cooked and my wife had the chicken, according to her the best she ever had. If I can say something that I didn't like I can say abound the chairs. Those are a little bit uncomfortable.
P. G.
A dark, cave like space serving Viking inspired food & drinks. Everything was delicious, service friendly & a great ambience. Loved the massive steak knife with the wooden handle!
G.
We had high hopes with this restaurant but the experience was pretty average. Ambience was super cool as you are engulfed by the Viking decor. Dont forget to try their mead in horn. Food was average though. We Did hear about about their Ribs and Bone Marrow, but it was pretty average and quite pricey.
Overall, it's good for the experience but personally I wouldn't go here again.

Back to one of our favourite bars, but this time it's primarily for a feed. Mjolner is hidden in plain sight on the busy Cleveland St Surry Hills, the only thing that gives it away is the 18+ sign. Mjolner is a Viking themed bar and restaurant. When we say viking themed, it's not a tacky themed restaurant. Mjolner has a raw sophisticated Viking thing going on, the venue arranged as though it has come out of a carnivore and whisky lover's dreams.
The restaurant walls adorned with viking weaponry and relics. The bar adorned with numerous types of alcohol, mainly whisky. Mjolner also has some of the coolest drinking vessels you will see anywhere. They have a whisky decanter called Mjolner(Thors hammer) and you can enjoy a beer out of a horn. The cutlery is also awesome, choose your weapon/steak knife before the meal. With a range bespoke knives with ornate wood and bone handles presented in a leather knife roll.
Food wise the Mjolner menu is a great match to the what the space is about.
The menu with plenty of rustic and hearty options to choose from and well geared for sharing or group dining.
As a starting point, the venison tartare, a nicely seasoned raw meat dish served with crisp bread or the grilled butterflied prawns are both great options.
For mains there are a few different proteins options all very viking like and great for sharing; the whole fish or rotisserie grain fed chicken or a 900g rib eye on the bone. The 900g rib eye, a substantial chunk of meat and a great option to share. They appear to use the reverse sear technique, starting it in the oven then finished over the flame grill. This piece of meat topped with rosted bone and a super tasty bone marrow sauce, certainly a great looking and tasty meal.
Mjolner is a good choice, especially if a good drinks list is high on your agenda. The food is also of a good standard although more suitable to group dining or those that have a big appetite. To top it off the place is just cool, who doesn't want to drink from a horn or choose a bespoke knife for their meal.
M. D.
Honestly one of the best meal experiences I've had. Do yourself a favour and drop in for a cocktail at the bar if nothing else. 10/10 all round.
H. M. M.
If you love Vikings and Viking culture you will ADORE this place. The themeing is so well done and not cheap at all, clearly a lot of effort has been put into this place. You can drink put of horns and you are able choose your own handcrafted knife to eat your food at the bar. I haven't tried the restaurant but the bar food is delicious and very substantial. The meat bowl is excellent. As for drinks I recommend the smokey beer and the small appetizer drinks, my favourite is called "bone " and it is excellent. They have a really wide range of drinks and whiskey.
Ask about the whiskey thats in the wooden Viking boat casks. The story behind them is fantastic.
Would recommend this place. 10/10
T. A.
The food is good but you’ll enjoy the experience more. Dessert needs to be seriously reconsidered!
M. C.
Most interesting themed restaurant in inner Sydney. Had a few pleasant surprises through out our meal. Defiantly recommend a visit if you have never been. Large portions n good service. Couldn't finish our main and had to take away.
L. L.
Celebrated our anniversary here and turned out to be a fantastic decision. If you have an appreciation for Vikings and Norse mythology then you'll love the decor. Food was delicious and portions were just right. The selection of cocktails and beers were great. You'll also have an opportunity to drink beer out of a horn! They even gave us a small gift and card signed by the team to celebrate the occasion which was a very nice gesture. It's unpretentious and is all about having a great time.
Update: Came here for a third time and the experience is just as good. Glad to see it survive COVID
N. P.
Love the vibe, foods tasted pretty unique
A.
Wasn't as good as I expected. Seemed quite hyped up but the decor wasn't as 'wow' as I'd hoped. Seemed more like a Sydney basement bar with the odd trinket than a Scandi-themed restaurant. Some good theatrics being able to pick your knives and lighting Glögg on fire was cool. The food was nice and it wasn't outrageously expensive. Staff are super friendly. It's worth a try but I wouldn't get as excited as the articles suggest
E. C.
My recent dining experience here completely blew me away.
Initially、while keen to try it、I had relatively low expectations. The menu is quite pricey so I was picturing an expensive yet kitsch affair. This was far from reality.
To start the meal、we were all served a shot of "stone" as a toast or "Skal" to the meal. As we were dining in a group of 13、we had the set menu which consisted of: bone marrow、gravlax、whole trout 、short rib、rotisserie chicken 、rotisserie pineapple and bone marrow brulee. Almost all of plates were something that、if dining alone、I would not have chosen. And that would have been a crying shame. The food was absolutely amazing. I could not possibly pick my favourite out of all the dishes tried.
We also ordered cocktails、which were a production in and of themselves. Served in a variety of viking-themed vessels、most notably the stein and the horn、the expansive drink selection added to the overall enjoyment of the night.
The staff themselves were also a highlight. The hostess accepted our last minute changes with good grace、the staff were friendly、attentive and took their time to explain everything、and helped to finish off the night on a high note. I cannot wait to eat here again!
G. L.
Went there with a group of 5. Elizabeth was the best! As well as the rest of the staff on duty that night that I did not catch the names of. We had such a nice time and the food was excellent. We got really caught up in the immersion of the whole experience. Would highly recommend. Such good value for what you get.
B. K.
To say that this place is an experience is an understatement. Decor is unmatched, nothing cheesy here at all. Axes helmets and drinking horn all adorn this establishment and add to its awsomeness. Food is of excellent quality and not excessively expensive either. Aside from the decor the cocktails as magnificent. With eau de vie as its sister bar how could it not be?
My only grievance is that the music really doesn't match the place at all; hip hop and R&B.
S. T.
Food was amazing as usual although the wait staff were really slow in getting drinks. The food came quicker than the drinks.
D. C.
A wonderful viking aesthetic with a great atmosphere.
You can come in to drink or eat with a good straight forward menu of delicious food.
I went for the pork belly and that filled me up so depending on your appetite you can go for a main and share a side dish. The marrow entree was lovely and the apple pie dessert my friend had smelt delicious.
m.
Excellent experience! This place has fun vibe and atmosphere and great service! The food we had was excellent and couldn’t fault it. The Beast: braised short rib, so tender, juicy and full of flavour and it was our first time having Roasted Bone Marrow it was DELICIOUS! If you are looking for a place with high quality food cooked perfectly and deliciously we recommend you check them out we definitely will be back!!
S. C.
Great ambience.. felt like it took my a long way away from sydney even though i was just at the heart of surry hills. Even as a walk in also was accomodately nicely and tried their best despite a busy night. Great staff.. and the ambience 10/10. Will come back with the boys again. .
S.
Fantastic food and service, great atmosphere, drinks a little on the pricey side but do not disappoint. A theatrical dining experience that's worth a visit.
J. R. M.
Simply amazing! Great service and an awesome environment. They take you through such a good experience since the moment you arrive. Celebrated my bday there and they gave me a card & a little souvenir, very thoughtful. Would def recommend it and would go back for sure!
R. P.
Must go; amazing experience, great food! Recommended portions of 1 starter, 1 main and 1 side per person are too much though.
I. T.
Third visit and never disappoints. I took my partner for a celebration and he was amazed the whole time. Food is always perfect and atmosphere is so much fun (dungeon vibes but make it comfy). For a place that could easily be a gimmick its done so classy. We had Jess as our server and she was very attentive. Thanks guys!
M. B.
What an incredible place! The food, the staff, the ambience - incredible. Can't recommend enough.
M. W.
We had dinner tonight and the place was perfect. Attentive staff, beautiful food and a wonderful time.
Cannot thank the staff more for making the whole experience stellar.
C. R.
Thank you to all the staff at Mjølner for making my birthday so special! Frida, you made the experience so genuine. Thank you to the bartender for an impromptu science lesson. You all go above and beyond for birthdays, and the card is so sweet. For the night, I forgot about living in this stressful time. Thank you for the sweet relief.
Stay well, and I hope your business will bounce back after covid is over.
xx
p.s. GET THE BROCCOLI. hOLY WOW.
R. v.
The main rib was absolutely great. The waitress and service where great. The knife is a nice addition. The menu was somehow limited and half sold out. More small meaty bites would have been great. Cocktails where great but in really missing old germanic style beer... However the absolutely worst and unacceptable part is the rap music. It's so out of theme it's like someone pulled a sick joke. It got annoying halfway mid dinner. It's the exact opposite of what you want. 70s music would have e been better. Play some wardruna or evior next time.
M. M.
I had my birthday dinner at this restaurant last week, had a fantastic experience. The food was GREAT! The staff got me a birthday present and card as well! What a surprise!
M. d. P.
I've been to several 3 Star Michelin restaurants in many parts of the world but my most favourite restaurant is this one. Rustic food, a genuine experience that is not over the top, and little slices of culture that are fun and relevant simultaneously. A unique experience and this was the second time I've had my birthday here. Last year it was my 50th, this year my 51st. Junior staff still learning, senior staff all peaking. Live it. Thanks for another awesome birthday even during Covid's nonsense. Mjølner. Skål.
M. L.
If you are looking for a unique place to spend a night out- Mjølner is a good place for that.
Variety of drinks is so awesome, I could just stay all night trying different cocktails- both sweet and sour. Food was amazing, too. Huge portions and so well prepared. I had fun and will definitely come back again.
D.
Went in for my birthday, great food and atmosphere, cool theme, person who waited my table was the only one not in theme and bit pushy but other then that great place
C. K.
Delicious Viking themed cuisine prepared in a contemporary Scandinavian style. Really good atmosphere. A feast fit for a jarl.
L. C.
An amazing fresh experience! The service of the staff was second to none too. I loved the journey they took you on. Food is AMAZING!! Albeit a bit unusual... I must say I didn't expect my venison to be raw, but it was tasty none the less. The rest of the food was spot on, except the potatoes which were basically just boiled and covered in mayonaise. Would highly recommend for a fancy dinner out, just get the veg instead! Oh and I would higggghly recommend the 'Feeling meady' cocktail... yum!
B. Z.
Such a wicked experience. You need to book in advance otherwise you need to eat at the bar. Food was the best on my trip by far. Atmosphere was amazing. At the end you can purchase a horn for 45 dollars. Very cool
H. W.
Best known for an unique dining experience. As you’re seated, you take a complimentary shot to start your night. Upon ordering your mains, you’re presented with a selection of knives to pick from and finally the last touch we loved was receiving the bill in a truly unique card! These unique touches make the experience stand out. The service is spectacular, food arrived quickly and was delicious. Reason for missing a star, on two separate occasions there’s been something missing or sold out on the menu. The menu is small nor extensive, we’ve arrived either at 6pm or 7pm, we’ve selected things that have “sold out”. Seems unusual for early reservations, would have no clue how to eventually secure one of these meals? Overall, great restaurant.
J. G.
The atmosphere is absolutely amazing the low light levels, the music, the decor absolutely everything about the place just immerses you straight into it.
The food was absolutely amazing, flavorful, tasty and plenty of it.
The staff are absolutely amazing as well, I had Caillin as our server and she was brilliant funny, polite and attentive. Happy to answer any and all questions.
In no way shape or form was I disappointed with the evening.
I will most definitely be making the trip again.
S. C.
Yum yum yummy...😍
We first greeted by friendly staff, followed by nice shot of alcohol forgot the name lol. Not long we had our entre and dinner, food was delicious
L. G.
Excellent place! Good hearty meals with a great Viking feel!! Except for the music. Cocktails are great as well! Definitely gonna go back sometime!
J. M. M.
We have been to both the Sydney and the Melbourne locations and they have been wonderful. Originally we stumbled into the Melbourne restaurant by chance and had a great time . So when we came back to Sydney we took our friends. This place just does everything right. It’s original delicious food with an fun and personal service. They have the details and the experience dialed in at both locations. Try something new and expect to be delighted. On this trip we each ordered a different item on the menu and shared the entire menu that way. There was not a weak dish. Too fun!
A. L.
A great experience and vibe. Lots of fun drinking from a horn. The food is a little avant-garde but otherwise ok
L. C.
Experience was great (for Valentines) but we were rushed to vacate the table for the next couple :(

The half duck ($60) was described as crispy skin, though the skin was soft and rubbery, yet the duck meat was firm and tough. Worst of both worlds at a high price, although the flavours were good. As for the pork, it was moist, however there was barely any crackling on it all. The pork meat had a decent texture, yet half the crackling was burned and soft, while the other half was inedible soft skin. Overall not worth the money at all. However the bone marrow was excellent, and the sides were not bad either. 3/5

That was a fantastic experience! You go through a total immersion in there, the staff are lovely and helpful, the meals are succulent and tasty. And what a great selection of cocktails! The immersion into the lore is really enjoyable. Definitely a go-to if you're nearby.
A. G.
Awesome atmosphere that starts right at the front door. The staff were amazing, our barman Jessie was an absolute superstar and remained very attentative to our requests. The food was divine and the portions were spot on. The only neg I have is the cost. It's not cheap by any stretch, but I would come back again, only It would not be a shock at bill time!!
A. H.
This was absolutely wonderful experience for me and my bf, we had our anniversary there and received a special card from Freeda( hope I got the name right). Very simple menu, good tasting food, well designed restaurant. (Not very easy to find it, but unique)the interesting thing is you can choose your own knife for you dish ( have the pic underneath )
At the end , you will receive a very delicate card with your bill~
D. K.
What a place!!! Loved it the food the people and the lady who looked after us , Jess you are amazing , Amy you are awsome
D. D.
Really good food. The ribs were amazing. Potatoes as well. And the legendary Odin's son mead. Omg. Cocktails aren't the best.
M. W.
The bar that Sydney needs and deserves. Cool vibes and very talented (not to mention easy to talk to) bartenders. Highly recommended.
Will definitely be back to try out the restaurant side.
J. K.
Fantastic experience. The atmosphere, service and vibe is very cool. The Mead here is great and what's more it's served in a horn. Most dishes were great, however if I had one minor negative it would have been that a couple of the meat dishes like the venison (a special at the time) were a bit dry. There is a big emphasis on the meat dishes, eg the Marrow but that was a bit rich, and in fact the table's (8 of us) favourite dish was the broccoli. If/when I visit again, I will get more veg to even out the richness of the meat.
S. C. B.
It was a design genius who decided to make this space a Viking den. Highly recommend the oysters, loved the trout and bone marrow. So much fun and exciting, the staff are great!!
R. T.
Wonderful food and drinks! Worth the price! Very attentive service, would rate 9/10!! Minus point just because of the limited time (fudge coronavirus)
J. P.
Always a great dining experience. The waitstaff are friendly, the food great every time. Oh, and you get to choose your own special knife. Was great way to end the week with the perfect meal.
K. S.
Great food, fantastic cocktails, mead - legit mead. The bar staff were very friendly we spoke of cocktails and Norse mythology. Definitely worth a visit!
B. K.
Delicious food, creative cocktails, excellent Viking theme and wonderful staff and service all make for a lovely, memorable and hygge evening for anybody. ❤️
J. H.
A novelty underground bar and restaurant displays Viking influence. Please don’t get me wrong when I used the word underground, the place is modern & uniquely presented. Some of the drinks are served in the horn, and don’t forget to try Thor’s hammer on the bar counter.
c. m.
Great concept .. attention to detail is amazing from the sign on the door..to the Viking artefacts and the dresscode for the staff.. great whiskeys.. amazing cocktails.. where else can you drink cocktails out of a horn? Need to come back to taste the food.
M. F.
Great food & nice staff. You need to like meat to go here ( we do!) - our favourite dish is the pork belly
S. T.
First time I visit here, the place was very original. I would like to ask the recipe to the chef because the food was the best part of the restaurant. Great 👍
R. C.
Definitely paying not only for great food, but an experience. Such a unique setting and decor, we loved our complimentary shots and choosing your own knife was also good fun!
On top of that the food was faultless. Will be back for sure.
B. Y.
Amazing Experience! Anytime you want to feel like a Viking go to Mjolnir, you will leave feeling like a Jarl of yesteryear. Will definitely go again! Tip: get the beef short rib, you wont regret it.
C. L.
Highly recommend. Ribs were on point. Friendly service 10/10 very welcoming. The northern light cocktail was also great. Got a little present from the restaurant since it was birthday, made my day.
Y. S.
One of my all time favourite places to have a special dinner! The atmosphere perfectly suits the name of the establishment and even has an open serving station where they add the final touches to your dish and it's extremely intriguing to watch. Although the dinner selection is limited to only a few choices (even though I usually only go for the pork belly), they certainly make up for it with their magical selection of drinks!
S. G.
Second time here. Still love the food. İt's soul feeding. Staff are always friendly and I even got a small present for my birthday! Thank you for such a great night!! <3
B. H.
Great bar, awsome food. The staff are amazing they work the theme great and get right into it. Well worth starting a night out here or getting a meal
P. J.
Great beer and whiskey selection. You can drink beer from a horn and they let you choose your own knives. Awesome meat.
V. N.
The cocktails were fantastic, the food delicious and great quality but the portions for both just are no match to its price tag. The place is beautifully presented (a bit dark for my less than perfect vision though) but be prepared to take a hit with the bill.
The starters, mains and sides I would love to order again but the desserts will be a hard pass for me next time.
My experience with booking a table online and over the phone with the mobile number provided on the Facebook page was a headache! We wanted to book for 7 but I was told that because of the table designs it could only be 6 or 12, after someone dropping out we kept the table for 6, when there we were seated in an 8 seater booth! What the?? After a lot of headache trying to figure out what to do it turns out we could have had the 7 originally, that was a bitter realisation unfortunately.
Oh and a word of warning, check your bill before you pay, we were over charged for some things and apparently we're not the only ones.

From the beginning, this restaurant has a different feel to it. From the entry point all the way through to the service and meal is truly an unforgettable experience. The dark dim lights, mixed with the drums in the background creates a very Norse vibe. Swinging lights mixed with the staff that are very enthusiastic easily makes yourself and the group your with feel as if you were in a longship. Finally the horns of mead and food are all delicious and suit the restaurant amazingly. Cannot rate this place high enough
E.
Awesome little underground Viking themed restaurant and bar. Attended a function here and the staff were lovely and it was a very comfortable space. Food was unique and tasty and I very much recommend trying their mead! Good stuff.
M. R.
Fantastic food and atmosphere, plus as soon as the staff found out it was my birthday they went that extra bit to make it a memorable experience. Will be returning again for sure.
R. U.
We had a great dinner last night! Thanks to the Mjolner staff, the food was fantastic and their service was top notch. Skal!
W.
Such an amazing experience and meal. If you happen to be in Sydney, find your way to this unique restaurant... you won’t be disappointed
s. z.
Great atmosphere. Food is different and absolutely beautiful. Great staff.
J. B.
My partner took me here for a belated birthday dinner and it did not disappoint. The food was amazingly delicious. I would recommend the pork, sparerib and broccoli
Just wanted to give a shout-out to Calyn (sorry if I misspelt it). She really made the experience and went above and beyond to make sure we had a great time. She deserves a pay rise
J. C.
Good food, nice atmosphere, nice drinks but service before table seating and when ready to pay can be improved (they either forgot or chose to not recognise us because they were busy, though this was not isolated to just us other tables had similar treatment at least on arrival)
J. d. H. (.
The Viking theme is well executed and it makes dining here quite an experience. There’s Viking shields, axes and swords and the staff are donned in Viking clothing. You drink beer from horns and the glassware and cutlery are cool. It’s like you’re having dinner in the halls of Ragnar himself.
The food is amazing as well. The portions are solid and are meant for sharing, so we loaded up on the lamb, chicken, beef and fish. The lamb was definitely the stand out dish; succulent, tender and very flavoursome.
Unfortunately, I have to deduct one star because we were kept waiting for an unreasonable amount of time. Not only was our table 30 minutes late, our food took a very long time to arrive as well.
As for pricing, you get quality food in a unique setting, so I think it’s fair to expect to pay a bit more. Overall good value for money I would say.
p. b.
Def one of Sydneys most marvelous foodie places. We ordered almost everything of the 1 page menu (except the veggie version) to have a feast across the line. It was delicious. Def will be back!
S. S.
We went here for our staff Christmas party. It was an amazing experience. The staff were so helpful and the food was delicious. Highly recommended
E.
It was one of my favourite restaurants until now. Unfortunately service was very lacking attention, potatoes were undercooked and rye bread was too dry. Ambiance was still 10/10!
K. S.
The atmosphere is great. The food was wonderful. The drinks are fun and different. I had the vegetari option and my husband had the lamb special. The service was really good. The only thing we didn't like was the music. It didn't fit with the venue but all in all, we had a great night and would visit again.
a. c.
Amazing restaurant. Beautiful atmosphere.
Impeccable staff. Chef's and front of house.
Definitely recommended
O. L.
What a fun place. Really creative and delicious cocktails, which are also quite strong by the way, and a nice staff in a cool environment. Didn’t eat dinner but did have a dessert, which was on fire, and had a great time in there chatting. Modern music with the Viking decor gives it a unique vibe.
P. S.
Great Vikings experience in Sydney. Decoration and music were amazing. The food was a delicacy, on top of that my girlfriend took me for me birthday and they even gifted me a card and one Vikings shot glass. That extra mile added great gesture for the experience. And lastly, the staffs are really warm.
j. c.
Amazing food.
Well presented, very tasty.
The atmosphere was great.
To improve.
Service need to be little bit more faster.
The horn needs to be clean better, they have a strong smell which doesn't enjoy the beers very well.
But great restaurants I will come back
F.
Best pumpkin I've had but I think the taste of other food should be improved. Full marks for the ambiance and decor.
L. P.
I was extremely surprised by this restaurant. There is very little signage that you could almost walk past without knowing it existed, but from the moment you open the doors and step inside you are in for a treat. From the atmosphere and viking decor, through to the food and drinks (mead from a horn!) it's a truly fantastic experience. I loved the welcome drink and being able to choose your own knife. I highly recommend the bone marrow which is followed by fire and whiskey.
p. a.
Had a date night last night. Food was amazing was looked after by Amy who did everything she could to make the night extra special. We after the meal moved to the bar area where we sampled the massive cocktail list. All cocktails we’re expertly mixed my very friendly bar staff. A top night and will be going back. Fully recommend.
N. T.
What I’m about to explain is going to sound lame but in actual fact is so well done it’s actually cool. Drinking beer out of horns, picking your weapon (knife) adds to the fun of picking your meat and eating like a Viking. Their selection of cocktails at the bar are also pretty good. From the time you walk through that cool door and walk down the steps you will have a great time!
n. m.
What an incredible experience. This is more than a restaurant its a full immersion that everyone that can should definitely check out. The decor through the whole place is incredible and authentic feeling. The staff are all fantastic and fully embrace the role without coming off contrived. Possibly because they seem to hire people who actually have a passion for the Nordic culture, like our host Nikki who was absolutely fantastic and made the night so fun with all the little rituals and treats that come along with dining here. From the welcome skål drink to the knife selection, the whole experience is engaging. The bone marrow louge was particularly cool. The food is fantastic! I'm no food critic but I feel like this place could be a contender for a Michelin star. Some of the best food I've ever had. The drinks are unique, bespoke and well thought out. Everything is served artistically. I can't say enough about this place. The staff even personally signed a birthday card. Blown away. Will bring people here for special occasions whenever I can.
R. L. P.
Great theme bar, beers in horns and you get to pick your own knife for the meal from a selection of impressive blades. Food was great and a nice atmosphere
B. ..
Staff was great, great atmosphere, entrees & and mains (i had the pork belly and prawns) they were both really great. All the sides were delicious also
N. D.
Celebrated my birthday with my partner there over the weekend & could not recommend this restaurant more. Our waitress, Fer, was incredibly welcoming, offered us excellent suggestions and went out of her way to make sure my night was very special and memorable. The quality of the food was amazing, both our pork and chicken was cooked perfectly and the serving sizes were generous. The viking fit out and drinking from horns was impressive and felt really authentic, will definitely be back!
M. C.
Simply outstanding food, excellent friendly service all around, top notch wine matching by the somellier, and a
viking setting like no other with drinking horns, axes, beards and tattoos galore. We'll be back!
B. M.
It was amazing all round! The food was the best and the whole experience and the staff were so good!
P. B.
You can easily walk right past the Medieval Door that transports you to another world below street level. From the swords and battle axes on the wall to the chef who looks authentically Viking this is an experience like no other I’ve had anywhere in the world. There is an air of ceremony and welcome, like you have entered a feasting hall of a friendly village, but the quality of food and alcohol I suspect would have been hard for a Viking to come by.
I drank Mead from the Horn, Whisky from the Hammer and eat of the Bird and Beast. All for around $110 a head for our table.
I can not recommend this experience enough, I will be back many times without a doubt!
E. R. S.
Amazing staff, energy and concept. Would 100% recommend to anyone who is up for something different and fun!!!! Thanks so much to our fab Irish waitress Katie!
L. O.
This was our first time there and we will definitely be going back! The whole experience was like nothing else Sydney has to offer. The music and decor really sets the scene of a viking hall yet has class and sophistication to match the ambiance. The staff are attentive and accomodating, we had Jess and she was outstanding! The food was AMAZING. Very creative and well thought out, great for feasting with the table. The interactive experience with drinking out of horns, doing bone marrow whiskey luge shots and out of Thors hammer left us really excited to come back and do it all over again! It was my sister in laws birthday and they presented her with a card from the staff + a shot glass momento which was extremely appreciated! 12/10 - well done to the team there!
A. v. d. S.
What a great Norse themed bar and restaurant!
We thoroughly enjoyed the coctails, wish some of them come in a horn like the beers...
A. T.
This place was awesome. Great food and whisky here. Also you get to choose your knife...which there are some pretty funny options. And drink mead out of a horn.
l. P.
Such a cool restaurant! My partner and o travelled up from Canberra purely for a particular whiskey!
Service was unmatched (massive shout out to Joel! Super fun and relaxed service while still meeting out every needs!) I love how deeply all of the staff take the theme! The whole fit out is amazing!
We were particularly pleased by the bartenders who spoke to us about whisky aswell (sorry we didn’t catch your names!)
Food was amazing too! Despite being vegetarian, I really enjoyed my meal!
We’ve both decided Mjolner will now be a place we visit every time we come to Sydney! Well done team!
J. S.
This place is perhaps the greatest restaurant I have ever experienced. Top notch service and food. The atmosphere is second to none. If you even remotely think you like Vikings and Norse mythology, this place is right up your alley. The lamb was by far the best meal I have EVER eaten. Plus I bought a cool drinking horn to bring back to the US.
M. H.
A very unique experience. The food was beautiful and the staff were friendly and dressed to fit the theme. We thoroughly enjoyed our experience here.
p. j.
Nice fit out, nice food, nice staff. I left my lovely jacket there, and the chef called to inform me to claim it. I’m so happy to get back my jacket. Appreciate Mjølner!
S. T.
A novel and fun dinner experience with some genuinely great food.
R. G.
As soon as you open the wooden door to the stairwell, you’re in the realm of the Vikings. Food and drinks were so phenomenal- drinking mead out of a horn absolutely necessary! Potatoes were the best I’ve ever had, and the pork belly was so crispy and juicy. Many thanks to our host Nikki for her presence, she always made sure we were looked after. What a brilliant experience!
E. C.
I’d say this place is good, average. The atmosphere and staff were great! Very attentive!
Food wise was where it went average for me. We had the oysters, bone marrow, lamb shank and beef ribs with a side of potatoes. Good presentation but lacked flavour. The kind that makes you wanting to go back for more.
Overall, I recommend for birthdays and parties as most people have been going for, as I think the theme and atmosphere would suit nicely. If you’re looking for something for Instagram-the horn beer glasses are a bonus too.
Z. M.
Amazing setting, simple but delicious menu and fantastic drinks (my favourites were the stone shot and shrubbery cocktail). The personal card when we told them we were celebrating a birthday was the icing on the cake.
J. M.
Really cool atmosphere and vibe, servers are great and you can drink out of a horn. Little pricey but you feel like you get your money's worth for the experience. Amazing cocktail selection. Definitely book in advance as can be quite busy.
A. W.
Highly recommend Mjolner to anyone wanting a stunning experience.
The bar has a fantastic array of cocktails wonderfully tailored to suit the scene. I recommend stone.
The staff were all amazing, super friendly and really helpful with anything we could need.
The food was astounding. All beautifully prepared and created with passion. Definitely recommend the beef ribs and crispy broccoli.
Massive praise to the owners, bar staff, the chefs, and Caillin who helped make my partner and my seven year anniversary one truly memorable.
It was a truly unique experience and we will definitely be returning in the future.
M. B.
I took my partner who is absolutely obsessed with Thor here just a couple of days ago. The service was exceptional, we were greeted at the door and as we were early for our reservation we were told we may wait at the bar whilst we await our table. They had a large selection of drinks, and some pretty cool cocktails. If you're hoping to just get a normal beer that you're use to, it won't happen, they do however have a variety of meads, pilsners and lagers that are quite good. The food comes in large servings and it is placed in the middle of the table and you divide between yourself. Our server was polite and bubbly, she checked up on us a few times to see how our meal was going, but wasn't annoyingly intrusive.
s.
It was great fun and atmosphere was comfortable. The only thing I didn't like is the $50 booking reservation fee. I think you're losing out on business for people who are going on a first date due to the uncertainty of first dates which is a shame because this is a great place to have dates. I think the reservation fee should apply only to booking of 4 people or more. Also the place was hard to find because the door is so hidden.
L. M. F.
First important notice, the place is definitely on the pricey side. But, the whole experience is worth every single dollar you pay. You get a free welcome shot and say the infamous Skal toast as you take it, are instructed to "select a weapon" from an assortment of steak knives after ordering a dinner, you drink your beer and the Feeling Meady cocktail from a horn, and for me the best part was the bone marrow appetizer. While the main trout dish with its vegetables I had was absolutely delicious, once you finish your bone marrow, the waitress will torch the bone for you, instruct you to hold it like a funnel against your mouth, and pour a shot of whiskey down it for you to enjoy. You also get to keep your little booklet that is brought to you with your bill, which has a neat little foldout ship inside it. I really wish we had something like this in Seattle, it's an incredible experience I wish I could do more often.
M. P.
We made a reservation for 8:45pm but we finally got our table by 9:20pm, no apology was given by the staff or explanation.
Food is ok but nothing extraordinary.
The decor and the place itself looks really nice.
Cocktails and beer were good.
I wouldn’t come back again probably. This was my second time there but nothing outstanding and the waiting for our table without an apology speaks bad from the place.
M. B.
Would give 1000000 stars if I could. All the food was made to perfection. Mead was really good - will come again!
D. W.
Should be applauded for its beer selection, considering restaurants rarely have more than Peroni and Boags. The Trencher was very filling for the price. The bread to meat ratio surprised me a bit (lots of bread), but was still very enjoyable. Great, comfortable setup. Service at the bar was a little slow at times, but it seemed to be that the bartender was swamped with orders.
Drink a beer from a horn. It's silly and fun.
J. Z.
My wife booked a spot for dinner to celebrate my birthday and the experience was the best I had in Sydney!! The attention to detail in the place was amazing.
The food was incredibly good, portions very generous, the mead was to die for and Jess our resident Viking waitress was fun, engaging and helped to make our time there one night to remember.
E. P.
Fantastic evening! Amazing food, incredible experience & served by the most spectacular elf, Caillin who was knowledgeable, entertaining & clearly passionate about her job & went out of her way to ensure our experience was memorable. We will be back for more, particularly the highland whisky, the beef short rib & horns!!
A. P.
What a great experience, highly reccommened. The food was delicious the service was amazing and the drinks were just as good!!!
M. T.
Amazing we experience. Love the theme, the decor, the staff, the food, the drinks & the atmosphere!! Will be back!
K. S.
This was my second time back to Mjølner and it honestly feels like the very first time. The food was both amazing and filling, with a very immersive theme decor from the walls down to the table designs. Our host Caillin was the sweetest and most entertaining ever and made the small birthday surprise even better. You guys know the drill with the mead + horn combo, but don't forget about trying their amazing cocktails as well (the Northern Lights will always be a favourite). Thank you again for such a nice and memorable experience, cheers to Caillin and the rest of the crew!!
M. L.
The atmosphere, service and staff were all exceptional! Especially our server Caillin who was absolutely fantastic and enthusiastic for the entire 2 hours we were there, giving us tips on what to eat and how to drink our mead effectively out of the horn without spilling on ourselves. The food was next level amazing and super tasty! Will definitely be back for another viking date night very soon. SKÅL!!
J. M.
The best food I've ever eaten, absolutely awesome atmosphere, and the most unbelievably thoughtful waiters and waitresses I've ever been served by. Tasty cocktails are also very good !! Would rate 6 stars if I could.
L. F.
Good food blended with a unique atmosphere. The kind of restaurant which is uniquely different to those you see every time you go out. I’ll be back and recommend you visit for its dining experience. Oh and Jess was awesome (you’ve earned that whisky shot).
J. W.
We had a christmas perty here, the service was unreal! Our waiter chris was the best! Amazing service and a great night! Highly reccomend!
L. F.
Very cool experience and the food was great. Was just a bit shocked we HAD to take part in the pricey group menu because there was 8 in our party. This wasn't explained when we booked.
T. B. (.
I cant fault a single thing. Seriously the food, staff and atmosphere are phenomenal. I even got to hold Mjolner which btw weighs more than it looks lol
I. R.
Finally got to this restaurant for what was my birthday dinner, nothing but praise…. Great atmosphere, great food and very quirky….. Beer/Meade from a horn, scotch poured down a bone and even a signed card from the wait staff and a little gift for my birthday…. Only thing missing was a nice Scandinavian beer…. Well done Mjølner, Skål...... 😎
B. E.
Good way to spend a birthday dinner. As always, great service (thanks to our waitress Caillan), great food, good bit of theatre, and a fine selection of whiskies chosen by the (Italian?) bartender. I even got a lovely little birthday card and viking playing cards!
D. M.
Great atmosphere and drinks menu. Good is pricey but delicious. Staff were most excellent! Definitely going back.
L. B.
We had an AMAZING experience and lovely, charming Nikki served us.
Service: 5/5
Food: 4/5
While the chicken was good enough, the sauce was pretty average. The pork belly was f’n incredible. I thought the broccoli was a little skunky but my hubby loved it. The gravlax (salmon) was so delicious, and the bone marrow was a rare treat. The creme brûlée was pretty good. The carrots were yummy.
Drinks: 4/5
Full disclaimer, I’m pregnant, so I’m restricted to alcohol free drinks. The one AF cocktail that I wanted was sold out and there’s no alcohol free beer available. The wine for hubs was $20 a glass which seemed a little steep for an average glass. The 4 stars comes from the gorgeous and incredible drinks menu; clearly an expert has made the menu thoughtfully and brilliantly.
Setting: 5/5
the period-dressed waiters attempt a scando accent (maybe some are actually Scandinavian? Don’t want to offend) and are lovely to you. There is great music and lighting ambiance throughout. The decor is brilliant, you feel like you’re in a tavern.
Cost: 3/5
It’s a fantastic experience, but we likely won’t feel the need to go again because of the very high cost. For two people who only had 1 alcoholic beverage, it cost over $200 which is not extravagant, but it’s certainly not something that you would need to randomly do again in the future.
A. K.
Called prior to coming in on a Friday night to book a table for dinner if possible and were told that they are booked out but we can just walk in and sit at the bar area. So we arrived from quite far for risking it to be rejected, then on arrival straight away we felt unwelcome. One of the staff members asked if we have a booking , we said no and that we called before and were informed that it’s ok to come and sit at the bar for dinner. He looked uneasy as if we are lying and make no sense, then “did us a favour” let us sit at the bar allowing us to order food. We sat and bartender served us drinks and he was great, the atmosphere was great as well.... but then we saw other people coming in without booking and treated nicely taken to the bar and even explaining the menu to them .... while what we got was ... “so do you want to eat?”. It wasn’t busy at the time, so I’m guessing we just weren’t kind of customers they are expecting.
J.
Came on a Sunday night for our anniversary, atmosphere and customer service was amazing from start to finish. Staff Amy made us feel welcome, acknowledging our anniversary, and sending us with well wishes as we finished our evening. Kieran waited on us for the evening and provided us with tips on how to drink out of a horn and recommendations for our meal.
Cauliflower side dish is top notch and full of flavour, Bone marrow was delightful, chicken cooked to juicy perfection, pork belly was yum, and poached pear was a godsend after a really full meal.
Takeaway boxes are available if you get full, and the food taste just as good the next day.
A. P.
Wonderful staff, great menu and portions, excellent atmosphere and most of all...... memories to cherish a lifetime.
M. C.
Amazing food, amazing drinks, the best staff and great atmosphere. Definitely will be back.
T. K.
It was my first visit tonight and it was the most amazing experience, could not fault a thing. From great food (highly recommend the pork & short rib with a side of broccoli and definitely try the bone marrow dessert, its not as scary as it sounds)
If you are blessed with the service of Caillin you are in for a fantastic/entertaining night - not only will you laugh but you will be well looked after for the evening
Definitely coming back to try the rest of the cool cocktails and requesting to be sat in Caillin's area especially with a view of the head chef who looks super cool 🤫
S. E.
Good whiskey collection. Served the way it should be. Got myself a dram of glenfiddich 21 yo and couldnt be happier. The bartender made it a pleasant experience. Did not try the food though
P.
The experience was like going back in time... High class Viking adventure... Beautiful staff who seem very intelligent.
T. C.
Amazing meats and delicious drinks. Great service too
D. S. (.
The food was incredibly tasty. The service and atmosphere was amazing. The drinks were visually eye catching. Not to mention the whole Nordic theme was on point in my opinion. And the music just added to everything. Recommend to book, so worth trying it.
h. s.
Such an awesome experience. Our waitress, Caitlin, was absolutely fantastic. So friendly and fun. Would definitely recommend, especially if you can be served by her!
L. B.
Every body who loves vikings series and movies should be visit this place, the food it's amazing and the environment of the place it's rolling you in the viking theme.
B. F.
Absolutely amazing! Great atmosphere and great food. Very entertaining night
D.
Delicious food, wonderful service! The lovely staff signed my birthday card and I was gifted a shot glass 🤩
M. L.
A little hard to find tucked away behind a rustic wooden door, but upon entering this was a cool place! The atmosphere was great, the staff were super friendly and efficient and the food was superb! My only regret is not finding this restaurant sooner!
S. J.
Not the first time we've been and it won't be the last. Always had a great time at Mjolner. The food and service is impeccable, highly recommend the bone marrow starter and pork belly main. Cailin looked after us on this visit and was hands down the best hostess we've ever had..... anywhere. Looking forward to our next visit
R.
The novelty of this place will never feel overdone or wear off! It was our first time and it felt very authentic. The drinks menu was impressive, food incredible but the atmosphere and decor really put this place on the map. Staff were all great too!
E. D.
Thank you for a delicious meal, wonderful ambience and great service. Shout out to Caillin, she was so thoughtful and helpful. The drinks are incredible and crafted with care. If you don't want to miss out: BOOK IN ADVANCE!
J. M.
One of the best meal experiences I’ve ever had. Atmosphere was as advertised and definitely worth it. Staff were helpful and friendly, would recommend asking for Caillin to be your server. She was very approachable and energetic.
S. K.
Great experience, amazing decor, delicious food. Little pricey, but the overall experience would see me go back.
S. H.
Staff were great at creating the atmosphere that goes with the decor. Food was fun
V. L.
Edited: Interesting food and friendly service
Restaurant takes customer feedback seriously, thanks for the help Nicole!

A tucked away gem. Don't think about going, just do it. Viking style food, horns to drink out of, and a bar theme that can not be matched is just part of the magic of Mjolner. Enjoy a meal for which you can not be a vegetarian, or grab a beverage from the array of themed beer options, or monstrous whiskey selection.
Go there, take a selfie, have a great time, and go back again.
M. P.
First time dining at Moljner and I was amazed at how accommodating the staff were! Super friendly! Really quick service. I had such an amazing experience. The food is absolutely delicious and you can drink mead out of a horn! How cool is that?! Their Viking game is spot on. Honestly guys, I’d 10/10 recommend.
T. F. N.
Terrific experience. Jess took great care of us - we had amazing drinks, food and the atmosphere was truly unique. Looking forward to coming again.
C. M.
This is the best restaurant in Sydney. The service, staff, atmosphere and food was phenomenal pricey but beyond worth it.
g.
I have been to Mjølner several times now with my wife and friends and every time has been a great night. A Viking-themed restaurant could have easily slipped into cheesy territory, but thankfully due to the combination of outstanding food and an extensive array of drinking options, it rises above all that and maintains an air of authenticity seldom enjoyed by 'themed' restaurants. A big part of this has been the staff and the small touches - very few restaurants genuinely take an interest in why you're there but Mjølner wait staff actually engage with your evening - evidenced by our server, Jess who was not only a pleasure to deal with, also presented my wife and I with an Anniversary card, signed by the staff on that night, and a Mjølner-themed gift! A similar act of gifting occurred when I took my wife there for her birthday. I can't think of a restaurant in Sydney other than Mjølner that does this. Thanks to Jess and the team for another amazing night at Mjølner!!
B. L.
This place is INCREDIBLE. I promise you it is worth the visit...the food is some of the best food we have ever had. If you do make a booking make sure to ask for Caillin to be your waiter..you will not regret it.
Overall, best food, best drinks, best service and inside looks incredible.
5 stars, would recommend to everyone
J. H.
This place could have gone very wrong because it has a strong theme but it is awesome! We went as a large group so we tried almost all of the creative and delicious cocktails - I drink cocktails around the world and these are a rarity, they were both unique and yummy. The food was also creative and satisfying and just lovely. Every detail was well considered with simple but immaculate sides to complement the amazing meat dishes. The vegetarian at our table was also very well taken of. Definitely a place to try!
L.
Great themed restaurant. Delicious food and great service. Staff all seem to genuinely like working at this establishment.
P. M.
Everything about this place is amazing, if you havent been before just stop whatever you're doing and book a table. You won't regret it.
B. N.
Very different and special drink on the horn 👌😋😋. Stay on the redfern so beautiful place and very special and so romantic
G.
Overall good but...
Been to this restaurant tonight, the night started well, warm welcome from the guy at the door, the waitress who served us was very friendly and energetic. We loved the free shots to start with, drinking beer from the horns and choosing our own knives!
We ordered bone marrow and venison tartar to start with and both were good.
Why am I giving 4 stars then? The mains arrived and the ratio was 60% pure fat and 40% meat...I need to admit that we did not ordered the healthiest things (pork belly and pork ribs) but still...not worth the price...
Then my boyfriend ordered a beer and the waitress said it was not available...only to see both tables next to us getting the same beer 20 mins later (I know this may not sound like a big issue, but for some boys beers are everything!). To end with, we overheard a waiter telling the table behind us that pork ribs on the bone were available for 2....we were not informed of this option...pity cause we would have gone for it!
I hope the restaurant will read this review cause its really a pity...our evening could have been great, instead of 'just ok'...it was spoiled by little things and lack of attention!
We probably won't be back. Will tell the truth to the friends who will ask...atmosphere was great, food ok, but the restaurant did not really exceeded our expectations as we hoped.
J. X.
Amazing foods, service and atmosphere ❤❤ it's a Thor (Viking) theme 🍖 wow! The bone marrow is so yummy and fatty that it's so worth it 🤩 the foods is so yummy with crispy broccoli plus short rib and pork belly! Yum! Also the knives 🔪 so amazing 😍 highly recommended
N. O.
Shout out to Caillin. She did a really really amazing job providing us with not only personalised services, but also great banter and selection of drinks. The beef tastes juicy and tender, and the drinks are so good it makes me want to order more of them. I would have given this restaurant 7-star if I could. Definitely will recommend this place to my other mates and come back later for the drinks. Skål!
L. E.
Cool venue where you can drink beer out of a horn and choose your steak knife before your meal.
L. B.
This place is amazing! Such an experience, made so by Caillin who delivered the best service we have experienced in a long time. She fully embraced the spirit of the restaurant and ensured we did too, we had a brilliant time!
A. C.
A truly wonderful experience. Delicious food and delectable drinks. The decor and music cobine to create an atmosphere that transports you to another world. The staff are so friendly and go above and beyond. A heartfelt thankyou to Frida, Fer, Ann & Jess for making our Anniversary dinner so special.
R. B.
The service, food and ambiance where spot on! Thanks for a great night we will be back with more family
C. B.
Lovely decor and interesting experience. The crispy broccoli was much too salty to enjoy and the recommendation to order entree, main and side per person left us with quite a lot of waste. The menu is very meat focused, and there was not balancing accompaniments. We left with a good experience but not from the food.
V. D.
Awesome time tonight, brought our friend down from Melbourne to have dinner and we weren't disappointed. It was our 3rd time at Mjolner and the food was amazing and the staff were really helpful and friendly. After dinner the 3 of us had a few drinks at the bar and had a great chat with Jono who was working behind the bar. Apologies for forgetting everyone else's name but you were all wonderful and we had a great time!

My partner and I just want to say THANKYOU! we came here for our anniversary and the food, drinks, the atmosphere was fricking brilliant!! But what topped the night off was the service, seriously guys, every single one of you deserve the praise. Emma especially was a superstar and the credit to her is well deserved. This place is worth the travel, money etc. We will definitely be back
Thank you for the thoughtful card, small gestures like this really made our night more lovely ❤
Ps. Your brocoli side dish was EPIC 😍🤤 Must try

Amazing experience. We ordered 3 mains and a few sides, and we could not pick what our favourite of them was. The drinking horns were a particularly nice touch. The knives they offered were so cool, and the decor was really quite unique.

Fantastic food and service. I can't even remember how much it was but I don't care. Everything was so damn delicious. Buttery soft beef ribs you could cut with a straw. Trout that was almost like jelly it was so tender. Fog of war cocktail was amazing if only a bit small. Again, same with the shrubbery cocktail. Delicious complex aromas and flavours but in a serving that left you wanting for more. All in all fantastic and I can't wait to go back

Amazing food and atmosphere. Staff are all very friendly.

The food is amazing.
The staff engaging and attentive.
Truely an amazing eveing out.
Plus you get to drink form a horn :)
L. C.
Great food Drinks especially drinking from a horn and service was friendly and helpful. A great time

Fantastic place and atmosphere! The bar has great drinks and drinking from a horn can make good pics. The food is just delicious, i had one of the best ribs in my life. We were celebrating our anniversary and they made a beautiful surprise for us that we just loved! Staff is great and work very hard to please the busy place. Would be back for sure!

Went for my birthday and the staff was absolutely incredible and fun. Thank you for such an amazing night and brilliant experience. Will definitely be back and have already recommended to anyone who asks. The atmosphere was incredible and fun the drinks were fantastic and the food was delicious and great portions too.

What an experience! The food was amazing, drinks were unique and the entire atmosphere was gorgeous which really immersed you in the theme.
But what topped it was the great service we had from the waitresses. They provided us with free shots from horn styled shot glasses, recommended their most popular dishes and overall was attentive to not only our group but to all the surrounding customers.
Would highly recommend to people who have heard about Mjølner but haven't experienced yet for themselves. You must drink and feast on plenty of meat if you wish to really become a viking for the night!

Amazing food, not to mentioned the booze! Really worth the visit 😎

Interesting drinks with good food. Bone marrow and horned drinks were quirky stand outs
C. A.
We were lucky walk in without booking on Sunday night , Cheryl was super friendly and full of smile also explain everything for us , pork belly and rib was super tender and delicious, I thought will be too expansive but compare as other fancy restaurant, it actually pretty reasonably price and great atmosphere , there are also Thor and fur outfit can let u take some cool
Photos , and the chef look exactly super viking I thought was really interesting, it’s def a theme restaurant and everything was all about viking!!
A. Y.
Great concept, food is good. It’s a little pricey but worth checking out. Will return? Not sure.

Absolutely loved this place. The atmosphere was phenomenal and the service impeccable, the food was delicious. Shout out to our waitress Caillin, she was fantastic and did a awesome job!
L. M.
Fun night out, superb food.
M. S.
The people were lovely. The atmosphere was very Viking! And we got to drink from a horn! My only point of caution, is that the food portions are massive! So order with care 😄
R. S.
Jess was our server and an absolute DELIGHT!!!! Alex was gorgeous and cannot fault any of the service, food and alcohol this night, or any other night we have been. Thank you for a brilliant night, we will be back, again.
J. J.
The food here is themed and delicious, the drinks are also themed and good. Choosing a knife from the staff is a great little feature at the start of your night, been here a few times and enjoy it immensely.
I will say though that with all the effort they have put into the immersion and ambients of the restaurant the choice of music they have playing does not fit with the experience.

We had our Christmas party here Unbelievable experience, Chris made our time here fantastic! Highly recommend

Went to this Restaurant last night for my partners and I anniversary. We had been meaning to come here as it looked so amazing, and we loved with the Viking theme. The food was absolutely beautiful. Well cooked and presented. We loved the variety of drinks. Everything came out reasonably quick and the service was above and beyond. Every staff member was lovely. At the end of our meal, our host gave us an anniversary card signed by the staff members, along with two of the horn shot glasses. We were so grateful for this and never has any other restaurant done such thing either, so well done!
Thank you very much to all staff members, and we will definitely be coming back and recommending you.

Visited this restaurant for a friend's birthday and it was such a fun experience. The bone marrow shot was definitely something new. The food was also very delicious but note that the restaurant is on the pricier end
R. S.
Great atmosphere and friendly staff. The food is an absolute mouthful, definitely recommend sharing.
R. D. S.
The food really surprised us! I can recognise that the mains are really good, we ordered the rib, lamb and pork. Tender meat, good quality and really tasty. The experience and the food are totally recommended
L. S.
Nicely Prepared and presented. The chips were fresh and hot. The burgers looked good as did the chorizo pizza! The bar is old school and the tables and cozy chairs are all period and jibe nicely with the decor. Get there early, the place fills up and stuff seemed to lag with the crowd. But no complaints at our table of 12!
E. Z.
Very interesting drink selection!
My best friend went there once, then took me and another friend there. It was underground and the door was hidden with no obvious sign on the street.
Recommend everyone to try the virgin bloody thirsty! First time drinking a soup flavoured drink 😂 but not bad
W. K.
Themed like a Vikings den, drink beer and mead out of bull horns. Food reminds me of trip to Iceland but so does the price.
M. L.
Staff have a great sense of timing, Menu is catered to everyone, and the atmosphere is welcoming and a breathe of fresh air. The theme makes a full circle from the decor, lighting, music right up to the menu.

First time at Mjolner and all I can say is wow, what an experience. From the wait staff to the food everything was spot on. The food was nothing I have experienced before, the flavours literally melted in your mouth. The cocktails were delicious and flavours did not taste artificial at all. There is nothing we could fault absolutely incredible, definitely will be back
s.
Great food, amazing service, awesome concept.
A bit expensive but totally worth it!!

Great setup and vibe to this place. Good range of alcohol and the food was on point. The roast pork was bloody good.

This place is amazing. It's the serving time we've been in 12 months and it's still awesome. The food is outstanding and the drinks are equally outstanding. The atmosphere is unbeatable and it's definitely a place that I'll be returning to later on. Top marks for the chef and his team, the bar staff and the table staff. Especially George, mag dog!!!! Brilliant place for an anniversary!!

We had the best time celebrating my boyfriends birthday at Mjolner. The service and food was impeccable, in particular our server Caillin who made the night very memorable. Would definitely return.

Amazing dining experience. Food, drink and service all amazing. Our waitress Amy gave fantastic recommendations . Such an amazing night out.
Will definitely be going again ASAP

This restaurant has fantastic staff, reliable service, great drinks and wonderful set up/idea going for it. Think dark, grungy and ideal for small to medium sized group gatherings. Even as a date night, this is a fun place to enjoy drinks or feast away!
However the restaurant area is so cold, air conditioning was on max (even during winter) so your food is ruined very quickly. The Bone Marrow entree was beautiful at first, but if you have had it cold.. Not so great anymore and off putting. Please turn the heat up a bit so we can enjoy the meals without rushing and spoiling the joy.
The mains were filling, meat cooked lovely but again it was ruined by such a cold venue so I couldn't finish everything.
My final critisicm is the music choice: why would a Viking themed restaurant/bar play intense modern hip hop/urban beats? I'm all for variety in music but the sounds just threw off the theme of the venue and was confusing and annoying. If you want to have a great themed space then music choice can be suited easily... play some rock/metal/background/ambiance music that ties to it. Also the volume was making it difficult to hear your staff speak.
Staff that work here are very lovely, friendly and helpful. Excellent drink service, range of options available and you pay for the experience.
This was so close to a big hit but they have a few things to improve on. Thank you.
F. L.
Great customer service, food and atmosphere. Couldn’t recommend this place enough.

All I can say is WOAH! me and my partner came from Adelaide on the long weekend and have been hunting out the best food places in Sydney! Mjolner absolutely delivered with their atmosphere, food, drink and exceptional dining service provided by their top notch staff, ps if you want to experience drinking some of the best IPA I’ve ever had out of a HORN I would book right now!
Huge shout out to the chefs- Bruno, Caillin & Kieran for making the dining and experience of Mjolner worth the trip!
J. W.
Absolutely amazing. Cant praise it enough. All the staff were fantastic. We had Jess who was awesome, knew the menu and drinks and was very attentive. Thanks for the best night out we've had in years!
A. O.
Mjolner was incredible; made even better by the staff, particularly Caillin, truly a one of a kind gem!
The fitout and theme really gave you the feeling of "leaving Sydney at the door".
The food and drink made you feel like the fanciest plunderer.
Would definitely recommend and will definitely be back.

Amazing food and service. Drinks list was beautifully crafted and the staff were all amazing and super friendly and helpful
T. W.
Outstanding service & atmosphere! Food was plentiful & fantastic. The venison just fell off the bone and melted in the mouth. Sweet mead, good music and beautiful shieldmaidens (and men) serving it up with personality and smiles. All the raucous joy of Valhalla without the inconvenient dying part! Will be back!
A. M.
Loved the viking theme. When you enter the whole vibe change into the viking world. Loved the service. The drinks were so good. Definitely going to visit next time.

Let me break it down... Katie our server was super! The atmosphere was the highlight event and what got me to visit the restaurant.
Personally, I’d say a let down... why? The food! My partner and I were so thrilled to hear of this restaurant especially being fans of the Vikings era!
The food had the presentation and meatiness of Vikings, and unfortunately lacked flavour.
- (main #1) The short rib was cooked perfectly and was accompanied by a most unwelcoming sauce for the palate. If you’re mad about some kind of whole seed mustard concoction, go for it!
- the starters were my favourite carrots ontop of something rather nice, I can’t recall the sauce name... and bone marrow, a heavy $25 for two slices of toast and two shallow marrows... taste is not for all but I quite enjoyed it - my other half, not so much. Ontop we added an extra $8 (roughly) to drinking whiskey from the bone remains, my partner recommends and said “quite nice”.
- (main #2) pork belly; not bad, nothing special once again — probably my favourite out of the two mains as I was able to comfortably enjoy all that was on the plate.
- we also had potatoes and broccoli- broccoli was a little too much on the fish sauce which really left that ocean flavour in my mouth. Potatoes were just...potatoes.
GET MEAD, quite delicious... both parties recommend. And be prepared to choose your weapon (your knife) for your meal!
And that’s all! Go for drinks and starters but I wouldn’t prolong the stay for dinner.

Went for dinner and it was an incredible experience! The ambiance is amazing, but the food and staff were out of this world! Elizabeth was amazing from beginning to end, incredibly warm and lovely. The Katie’s were also amazing. Definitely try the mead, bone marrow and pork belly. You will not regret it!
D. R.
400+ whiskies at the bar nothing more to say really!!
The food there is next level awesome but just remember there is also whisky there too
S. N.
Absolutely amazing place. Excellent food and drinks. Super cool staff, who make you laugh! Highly recommended!

Incredible experience! Nothing has been left to chance with the decor & ambience. The food was absolutely phenomenal. The chicken was a highlight, and surprisingly so was the pumpkin side dish!!! The thing that really made the night though was the service. Our main waiter Amy was friendly, attentive & had such a great attitude! James also looked after us very well & made our group feel pretty special!
Word of warning though, the drink prices were quite high for the wine. But other than that, would absolutely recommend to others!
K. L.
Viking / Norse themed restaurant with solid food. Great drinks menu.

Went for my birthday with my partner. Fantastic atmosphere, fun drinks and really hearty food. Go for the opportunity to experience viking style hospitality! See you again!
