Comments of Mr. Wong
a.
This place is fantastic. Runs like an extremely well oiled machine. Huge venue, but very organised. The staff and service were amazing. We had Maddison as our waitress and she was particularly fantastic. Attentive, friendly, and helpful. The food and cocktails were all to die for. I'd love to come back here again!!
S. A.
Food was incredibly tasty. All the food I had was vegan and really good. Additionally, the service was excellent and the staff was super nice and friendly. I would definitely come back.
M. T.
Delicious Chinese food with attention to culinary detail such as complex flavors and varying textures. Their food is very photogenic and something to enjoy for a celebration. Would recommend this place for a semi fancy or special occasion! They also have very unique and tasty drinks.
E. A.
As someone who has anaphylaxis and severe allergies to nuts and fish, I was super impressed by how considerate the staff and chefs were. The food and drinks were amazing, and the floor staff were super attentive even though it was packed (on a Wednesday night, even!) On the pricier side but worth it for special occasions as you won’t be disappointed.

A secluded restaurant in the lavish district of upper CBD. The food taste undisputedly perfect in every bite. The dim sum is a remembrance of my time in Hong Kong. But most importantly, the ambience of the restaurant is no match by anywhere else in Sydney. The staff is so kind and affable. And not to mention, easily accessible by the light rail Bridge Street. A must visit.

Had our anniversary dinner at Mr Wong this year. Unfortunately it’s the least favourite anniversary restaurant so far. Instead of a ‘Chinese restaurant’ it’s more like a ‘Chinese fusion Restaurant’. Every dish tasted nice but no difference to any other Chinese restaurants (including ones in the food courts). Only difference is Mr Wong uses fancy/better/more expensive ingredients. What surprised me the most was I didn’t see a single Asian chef in the kitchen (of a Chinese/Chinese fusion restaurant). Pricing was ok. Good place for work function but probably not my first choice for special days or when I’m craving for Chinese/Asian food. Now I understand why some of my friends said ‘mr wong is nice, but it doesn’t worth more than an experience’.
A. C.
Wonderful experience. After many years discussion, we finally went for dinner and were not disappointed! The salt and pepper seafood was very light, and not too greasy. The mud crab was divine, having been flash fried in a flour coating to give the shell more flavour. The sommelier and wine list was fantastic. Very friendly and generous staff.
M. S.
Yes ! Go here for Gorgeous food, beautifully presented, delicious and quirky. This big hidden restaurant is surprisingly cosy, and not at all noisy, with nooks for dining. We loved the Waygu trufflepuffs and the steamed lobster dumplings, the extensive wine list was fabulous and service today by the very attentive Jason was 5star. Would recommend!

This is the fifth time there and it never disappoints. They were in great spirits after the lockdown and patient with the sign in and check in process:
The atmosphere and ambiance always has a vibe that is like a hustle and bustle of a major city which I love. People are buzzing around, music in the background and people enjoying being back to eating in.
Food is spectacular as always. Right texture combinations, good serve sizes, cocktails on point and it is a little generous on the wallet too but worth it.
Don’t miss a chance to come here.
Evelyn our server was energetic, attentive and just gorgeously patient. Thank you for making our evening.
M.
Good modern Asian food, not wow.. I would go back to golden century once they reopen
Peking duck, duck sliced too thick, no separation between meat and crispy duck skin
Fried rice is good, just need more wok hay(work char)
And other dishes no pics, pretty standard
S. D.
Hard to fault! Food exceptional and generous serve. Service friendly and well measured. Sure it’s not cheap but I didn’t feel it was outrageous. I was a little put off by the cold “we won’t open the door until 5.30pm” (even though we had a 5.30 booking) but after that bumpy start it was smooth sailing. Quite surprised this is Merivale - far superior than any other of their offerings. Ps don’t miss the fried ice cream!!!
M. L.
The food was great and the atmosphere was nice.
Minus 1 star because the service was alright for the price you pay to dine there. A group of us did show up early to our booking and we were happy to wait outside. When it was time for our booking, our group of 9 were made to wait at the bar. There was no room for us to stand as wait staff were constantly walking up and down the front of the bar & grabbing drinks to deliver to tables. We weren't interested in having drinks, but if we were, there wouldn't of been enough seats with people already at the bar. Then to be told we were to be seated downstairs... Felt a bit pushy with trying to make extra cash through drink sales.
However, I still plan to go again for my mother's birthday as I enjoyed my time and the food.
D. M.
Absolutely loved Mr Wong, the experience is exceptional by itself, then you add the food which is so delicious. The mixtures and textures in their dishes just work so well together. The sweet wasabi that came with the Kingfish is the best condiment I've ever had. The Bugs and the fried rice are unreal as well as Mr Wong Chicken. I am going back as it was great.
C. &. C.
They have amazing dumplings and food! Staff are amazing as well, they would really be telling you about what they offer. It takes the place into a whole new level when staff look like they are enjoying what they are doing - both chefs and servers!! Best to celebrate events here! and during the lockdown you can order online and pick the food up. they package the food nicely for takeaway. great value for money as everything tastes so good. We've tried a bunch of stuff -- see pics below ( LAST ONE WAS TAKEAWAY )
W. H.
If you love Hong Kong style yumcha and you want to go up another level. This is the place.
What an amazing place to dine at. The dimsim were all beautiful designed with a modern twist. The taste was impeccable.
E. L.
Lovely restaurant. Been there for dinner and there was a great vibe. Food im was also delicious! I thought staff was a bit arrogant but overall I would recommend it.
J. N.
Definitely one of my go-to's. It's worth the price, the service is superb as always. Food is really good, my fave are King Crab Fried Rice and King Prawn Wonton in Supreme Broth.
N. M.
11/10 would recommend!!!!
First visit after the pandemic restrictions had eased and Mr Wong hit the ground running. We had a booking for 2 people at 8:30pm on a Sunday night and the place was packed (all within Covid regulations).....on a Sunday.
As with every restaurant this side of the lock down, they are running a shorter menu than usual, and that's the only thing that has changed.
What is still the same?
Top class service. Best modern Chinese food you will find anywhere. The venue screams with rustic oriental charm. The flavours..... OMG the flavours!
Can't wait to get back....
C. S.
On this occasion had the $123 p/p tasting menu, selecting for the mud crab.
The entire tasting menu was delicious .The mud crab itself was cooked well, it was only let down by it's sauce which tasted primarily of the thickening agent used. The ambience is always beautiful, the wait staff impeccable.
C. W.
Can you book online? Yes you can - but it will cost you $100 per person (non-refundable) for the privilege. I would give 4* except for their policy of requiring a non-refundable deposit of $100 per person for online bookings. You would be hard-pressed to spend $100 per person for dimsim lunch. Our bill came to $120 for 2. Don't use Covid as an excuse for your profiteering. The only way to avoid the deposit is to arrive early as walk-ins which we opted for but then you may find you are waiting in inclement weather. The food was fresh and hot and arrived within 15 minutes of ordering however you would expect this based on the exorbitant prices ($15-25 per dish for 3 pieces). The waiters aren't particularly attentive either - go to any other yumcha restaurant and the teapot will be refilled within minutes of you placing the teapot lid open on top. The best value for money were the desserts: $23 for a huge fried ice cream ball and $20 for the chocolate coconut. Will not be going back until they abolish the deposit requirement for online bookings.
J. H.
Delicious tasting food. Excellent service well worth treating yourself to a tasty Cantonese meal 😋
C. S.
Absolutely incredible! Great food, and more importantly really great service. Definitely worth every cent:)
I. H.
Easily one of the best Chinese restaurant ( especially Cantonese food) in town. Good vibes. Services on point. Quality of food is always amazing. Not a cheap dinner but defiantly worth the money comparing to many other new opened resultants where vibe is everything and that is where your money go ( which is not the point when you want to just have a good meal)
N. V.
Great place, good vibes, fantastic service and the meal was excellent. We booked a post-lockdown belated birthday lunch as this place is a bit of a special occasion venue. Really cool vibe, exposed brick and cosy industrial with Asian accents. The food is great. We ordered the lobster, prawn and mushroom dumplings to start. The mushroom dumplings were so good. I was thinking about them for days after. Also ordered the salt and pepper Balmain bugs and king crab fried rice - both were excellent. The mango and coconut with lychee pearls dessert was a winner. Good range of non-alcoholic cocktails as well. All in all a great experience and all covid requirements in place. Must book in advance and deposit is taken which is taken off the meal.
C. T.
Best dim sum in Sydney but its priced accordingly. Attached photo was a caviar, scallop, and prawn dumpling dish they did for CNY 2022.
P. V.
Food was good but wasn't great.
I mean I liked it but they could have done it better.
I know they have high quality for meat and seafood but the balance of the taste should be perfect with this price range.
Service was phenomenal. All the staffs who serve us were so friendly and attentive.
K. D.
First time dining here & absolutely loved it. The food was sensational & the service was brilliant. Amelia & Lindsay went out of their way to provide great service & have a nice chat. They were fabulous & really made our night. Will definitely be back.
P. H.
Didn't book but staff found me a seat quite quickly given how busy it was.
Food was fantastic, great service and helpful staff. Comprehensive wine list with reasonable pricing.
Loved the decor and atmosphere.
C. G.
Good food, I enjoyed it. It does feel a bit pricey compared to what you can get elsewhere, but the location is nice and service is excellent, so that does make it worth it. Came here for a work dinner and would come again in the future.
G. A. N. C.
Not a lot of Asian infused restaurants better than this. We are going back to try more exceptional dishes.
Certainly one of our Favourites.
Fantastic looking Kitchen with Rows and Rows and Rows of Duck. Did I repeat myself - Yes I did!
G. H.
Love this place. Great food. A bit pricey, but worth it. Great vego alternatives too on request.
K. B.
Hits and misses... mostly hits. Great place for a family "occasion" or event.
Hits - service, kingfish sashimi, pepper beef and pork/prawn siu mai
Misses - XO pippis (no flavour and soggy crispy noodle base), charsiu (moist but the outside didn't have any caramelized bits).
Other dishes were ok.
B. C.
Fantastic world class food and wine selection - especially the dumplings and Peking Duck !
Great vibe
Value for money given the location, produce and ambience
However the service was underwhelming to say the least
Entrees came out six minutes apart !
Drink service non-existent, to the point walked to the main bar to order a drink
Service undermined the entire experience
C. H.
Beautiful setting in old warehouse building. Food lovely and staff very professional and accommodating. Special shout out to our wonderful waitress Devi. Devi is a true professional whose main aim is to satisfy her customer. What could have been a rushed, stressful evening turned into a wonder celebration thanks to Devi's thoughtfullness and special way. Thank you.
W. T.
Definitely love the dim sum selection here. They have some of the usual and traditional items, and some of the more modern items. Everything we tried was executed to perfection, fresh ingredients and beautifully presented. Price is a bit steep for dim sum, but I think you get the quality.
D. C.
Sublime. The family always make a point of dining at Mr Wong when in Sydney and it never disappoints. Food is exemplary and terrific value given the quality and quantity.. Cool contemporary surrounds with attentive, first class service. Big shout out to the "Muscles from Brussels" who did a tremendous job in looking after us. One of the best going around. First class.
A. B.
Officially my favourite restaurant! Everything from the service to the caviar that was served with our champagne, every dish that came out just kept impressing me time after time… I cannot fault them… I’ll def be back again and again
E. T.
Sydney’s not so secret hidden gem. Mr Wong has become an institution for elevated Cantonese dining offering dim sum for lunch and classic dishes with fancy touch. It’s a nice place to dress up & enjoy the mysterious yet classy ambience with friends / family. Expect to pay top dollar because this place is premium. All bookings have min spend $100/person, but one can always walk in and get a table straight away (if lucky enough) like we did. All dishes flavours are on point, our favourite being the Black Pepper M9+ Wagyu Beef Stir Fry, can’t have enough of this! Shochu Pop & Peking Daiquiri cocktails were lovely too, albeit a bit small. Took 1 star out because of a small incident with a waiter who accidentally tipped one of our cocktails. Not much were spilled but would be nice if she offered to replace with a new one instead of just wiping it off & left like nothing happened.
W. N.
Had a great lunch banquet here. The food meets the expectation and the ambient is good in the context of fine dinning. While I personally don't think it's authentic in a sense of down-to-earth chinese dining (and you could find more authentic Chinese food at a different setting and at a far cheaper price but you just can't compare Apple to Orange), Mr Wong has found its own niche and its definitely up there along with hotel quality food you find at a Western hotel in Asia.
We had amazing food, drinks, and desert.
The drinks range is good where we could order from wine to even Tsing Tao (a great chinese pale lager beer)
Pretty amazed by the idea of an high end restaurant located at a hidden alleyway.
Impressed with the open kitchen, where you don't normally get to see from a typical chinese restaurants. I like the bathroom design more than the dinning area.
The service from the staff is what you would expect from a fine dinning restaurant too, pretty professional. Gotta miss the friendly chats from the pre covid days (now that they all wear masks and refrain from being too chatty).
Will come back and try more of their creative/ recommended dishes rather than getting typical dishes you can get from typical restaurants (the spicy wontons were a let down).
M. D.
Great food and wine selection. Prompt service. Been here a couple of times and planning to be back soon.
P. B.
The food here is delicious and fresh.
The service is above and beyond.
The atmosphere is warm and inviting.
The decor is well thought out and beautiful.
This restaurant is a bit on the fancy side but also quite casual for a fun get together with a group of friends.
It is situated in a nice quiet alleyway in the city and once you walk in the door everything is a pleasurable and enjoyable experience.
There are various different types of seating to pick from and they're all very comfortable.
The food is really fresh and flavourful and a delight to eat. It's reasonably priced for the location and the serving sizes were really generous.
They are accommodating to alter certain dishes to be vegan friendly as well.
The dumplings were some of the best I've ever had. So fresh and delicious and soft and bursting with moist flavour.
I can't really fault much about this place except that the wine was pretty expensive which was to be expected.
I would definitely come back in the future ! Really amazing restaurant.

Arrived from Melbourne. Was told no booking was required but this was not so. Door staff went out of their way to find us a table. Lovely, generous serves of food. All the staff were wonderful, but our waitress 'Madison ' was exceptional.
A. B.
Cocktails were nice but wasn’t impressed by the food.
A. N.
As a dim sum lover, I will say this is not exactly where you should try original taste of dim sum. Personally, the food is nice but more Western style than Chinese. It is quite a bit pricey but you can give it a try.
A. L.
Fantastic atmosphere with jazz music to compliment. We went there for our anniversary and the service was absolutely great, they even presented our dessert with an happy anniversary message. The food was mouth watering, is great for larger parties as well. Wine knowledge was great recommending the right wine for the meal. Will be coming back.
M. S.
Mr. Wongs was the second place we were recommended by all of our Sydney friends, and after a 2 hour wait on a Sunday (we had no reservation, but since we were at Palmer and Co, they managed to fit us in!!!), we finally were able to sit down.
The experience was absolutely perfect; our duck was exactly as it should be, moist with an amazing rendered skin, wonderful flavor, excellent accoutrements. The crab fried rice was also awesome, and the deep fried shrimp had a wonderful citrus zest. Another standout was the spicy chicken; served cold, the chicken was beautifully presented and cooked, although it could have had more spice.
Service was perfect and friendly, the sommelier recommended a great bottle of sparkling within our budget that paired super well, the cocktails were good, and overall we had absolutely nothing to complain about.
It's a loud, energetic, and bustling feel and certainly crowded, but we were by the kitchen and it was great to watch everyone work. This is worth the money, and deserves its chef's hats.
A. H.
Cozy atmosphere and friendly service. The food has been a little bit westernised but you can still feel it's otentic. Recommended if you are looking for a Chinese dimsum with cozy atmosphere (not the hectic one). It can be a bit pricey depends on your order.
C. T.
Lobster Scallop dumplings were excellent.
Felt like the Xiao Long Bao from taste of shanghai had more flavour.
Mud Crab with singaporean noodles with black pepper, was different and interesting. Best thing about this place was the service. Felt welcomed.
m. j.
The food was really good and the service was excellent. We ordered the king crab soup, deep fried dumpling (that's a surprise platter), Wongs fried rice and the singapore noodles. My daughter who is two loved the soup. Great place to dine with family and friends. Would recommend to make a reservation.
P.
Dinner was perfect with super friendly staff and amazingly Oriental cocktails. Since we had a group of 5 friends, we got to share eight dishes and two desserts. The plates were delicious, the biggest stand out for me was the Steamed Glacier 51 toothfish, closely followed by sweet & sour crispy pork hock.
The mango pudding was amazing too!
The very extensive wine menu, perfect for select dates!
K. U.
Awesome food. My wife and I really enjoyed the meal after the musical at the Opera House. It doesn’t look like a Chinese restaurant. We tried course menu as we can enjoy 9 dishes plus full dessert for each person. Downside of this restaurant is no bookings for two persons and two hours limitation.
Revisited in June, 2020.
Due to COViD19, the restaurant serves the limited a la carte (popular ones) menu, no course menu. But enjoyed the meal, full of people.... unfortunately our order seemed to be forgotten and long waiting time.
D.
Excellent cocktails and food, well worth the price. This place is always busy and booked out, for good reason.
The dumplings are phenomenal! The mushroom ones are really good for any vegetarians.
The sweet and sour pork was so well cooked and flavoursome but I'd recommend sharing it with some other dishes, as it is literally just meat.
The cocktails were beautiful and unique as well
The overall ambience was classy, but still really bustling inside.
J. H. P.
My friend did enjoy mr wong as a regular customer. However, the place could do better for the price they charge us, service was as expected, but the food was disappointing in comparison. Overall if the food can be improved, it is a great place for a catch up or special event.
m. g.
Shumai was absolutely lovely, and the lobster was divine as well. Beautiful venue and wonderful service from our charismatic and lovely waiter, Jason. He was attentive and took care of us the entire night. He truly made our Sunday dinner an amazing experience.
O. O.
Only place in Sydney that had an authentic vibe during the Covid climate. Staff friendly and talkative. Food delicious and layout lovely. Of course we got two Covid tracing alerts out of the place but it was worth it. And, No, we didn’t get Covid.
B. V. G.
✅ Peking Duck Pancakes
✅ Salt & Pepper Calamari
✅ Crispy Fried Balmain Bugs
✅ Crispy Eggplant
J. S.
Attentive service, great atmosphere, good quality of food except the egg noodles. Can’t wait to come back for yum cha. Tip: if they are fully booked, keep checking online, sometimes a few availability could appear. Not many options of entrees for pescatarian
V. L.
Amazing everything was perfect. The service and the welcoming nature of the staff were faultless. You have to have to have the fried ice cream!
T. R.
Great food. We actually visited twice while in Sydney. Everything is excellent. I would recommend trying the Banquet which is an array of various servings that allowed you to sample multiple items. We did the the Banquet for our first visit. Unfortunately, for our first visit we waited two hours before being seated. The second visit, we arrived 30 minutes before opening and the line was already 30+ deep in front of us. Per the picture, the line behind us was even deeper 15 minutes before opening. Nevertheless, we got in and the food was amazing as well. We had the dim sum again, roasted duck and crab fried rice. Suggestion: aYou can make reservations for dinner if you are a party of 6 or more. If you are less than 6 people, show up early because you have a long wait otherwise OR make new friends to make a group of 6. Enjoy!
C. D.
Food was delicious and amazing, if a little pricey. 3 dim sum dishes plus dessert was just a little more than my hungry appetite could consume.
Docked a star because I sat at the bar, but it was always hard to flag a waiter down.
The chocolate ice cream dessert was adorable and tasty.
The best flavoured soup I’ve had in the pork xiao long bao to date. The skin was a little thicker than other places that I have had.
I enjoyed the duck spring rolls as well as the lobster and scallops dumplings.
M. C.
From the delicate dumplings to the delightful crab , Mr Wings takes you to a place outside of Oz.. the warm, deco environment, commutable service and vibe , along with selection of wines allow Mr Wongs to be in a class of its own.
Great for dates, friend catch up or family
L. D.
Ensure you go to Mr Wong with an empty stomach and a full wallet as you'll want to try every dish! After hearing from multiple people raving about the food there I finally had the opportunity to go and boy was I not dissapointed. We ordered the Rock Oysters, hiramasa kingfish, sea scallops, steamed dim sum platter, honey glazed kurobuta char siu pork, Rock lobster wok fried with garlic butter, pippies wok fried in xo sauce, Kung Pao chicken, grilled 9 Wagyu strip loin, crispy eggplant, king crab fried rice, deep fried ice cream and Hong Kong style milk tea tres leches along with an assortment of wines paired perfectly by the sommelier. Needless to say this was one of the most expensive meals I've ever eaten BUT every bit worth it as I would rate this as one of the best meals (if not the best meal) I've ever eaten in my entire life. I finally get why people rave so much about this place, do yourself a favour and make a reservation now, you will not be dissapointed.
M. V.
We went here for my mums birthday last week.
Been here many times now and we all thought the food was okay not amazing.
Their signature dish that you can't go wrong with is the pig ears and crispy eggplant the rest was mediocre.
For the price, I think it missed the mark for us this time.
Fried rice was the biggest letdown as it was dry.
The assorted mushrooms were nice, except a little over salted.
Dumplings were nice and the service was lovely.
I. R.
Amazing! Simply Amazing! Consistently impressive. The staff are always so lovely, friendly and happy to recommend a dish. Never had a bad experience here. Recommend a booking, but they only allow for groups of 6 or more. Best to go in a group as the meals are designed for sharing.
J. P.
Took the recommendation that was offered and I was impressed. Highly recommend seating at the bar if you are alone.
B. F.
This modern Cantonese restaurant is one of the highlights from our Sydney trip. The ambience and interior is so hip, the toilets especially is so cool and unique. All the food is delicious, a nice twist to your traditional Chinese food. Staff service was also wonderful. If you have a bigger budget to eat out, try Mr. Wong out, you won’t regret it. But book in advance as they can get really busy.
p. f.
This place is truly amazing! I would definitely highly recommend it for any special occasion as well as for any time you want to be guaranteed an excellent meal in a cool atmosphere with a service that will make you feel special and treated like royalty!
We recently went there twice within a short period of time. Once we we did a walk and in and we were seated at the bar, the other time we made a hooking and had a table in the floor. Both times our experience was fantastic and that was with very high expectations.
Out of all the things on the menu there is nothing i cannot recommend. Definite highlights for me are the steamed and fried dim sums which change depending on the day but also the deep Fried ice cream.
P.
Delicious food, quirky atmosphere and super friendly staff!
Do yoursef a favour And do not eat 12 hours before you go here... The food is lip smacking delish and you can't stop eating it!
We chose the basic banquet for the two of us and they were very accommodating even though the menu mentions for 4.
The staff is very chatty and friendly and they describe each dish passionately.
There is a $100 booking fee which I thought was ridiculous... But then it was a great experience and lovely food... I'd do it again 😃
S. W.
Probably one of the best restaurants in Sydney right now. The waitress that served us Isabella, was very friendly, professional and knowledgeable about the items on the menu. Food was absolutely delicious and the atmosphere suits it very well. Definitely highly recommend to dine here.
M. D.
It’s been years since I have been here but glad I’ve been back.
Food was amazing & every dish was full of flavour, I am wanting to go back again very soon!
Also had the dom & caviar promotion they had as a start to the dinner but only have a video of this which won’t let me post.
Although each dish was amazing the wagyu & truffle puff & the prawn toast with foie gras was fantastic. Another standout was the char siu toothfish - such a surprising dish, highly recommend trying this as a seafood alternative to the char siu pork. The crab fried rice was amazing too but unfortunately was already getting pretty full by the time it arrived.
Service was very friendly & attentive as well. Well done!
V. K.
Unexpected find! Amazing food and service. Incredible wine list. Unique heritage building in eclectic setting. Not your local Chinese takeaway.. definitely an experience.
T. K.
I’ve visited Mr. Wong to have lunch with him countless times and it’s one of the finest Chinese restaurants in Sydney CBD. If you order their best dishes, it’s probably the best Chinese restaurant in city. I like their dumplings, duck dishes and fried rice. It’s a great place for business lunches or dates.
S. H.
Not very expensive. Food comes really fast. Dishes are interesting. I had the pig ears and it’s such a surprise. Would recommend to friends for sure.
P. M. (. f. P.
Mr Wongs is located in the old Tank nightclub. Which is such a trip because I used to party there. Love the extensive menu here, you could come here so many times and still not eat it all. This time we wanted something a little bit more low key so we did dumplings then splurged on the short rib. To. Die. For.
Roasted Angus beef shortrib - “Shandong style”, soy, chilli & shallot dressing $54
R. L.
Dim sum is served on sat and sun before 12 pm.
Amazing fusion dim sum! Every dish we got was fresh and delicious. It’s better dim sum than what you can get in Hong Kong.
Not to mention, the decor is super cool and pretty.
It’s old school yet modern.
Highly recommend this place
E. T.
Definitely a good experience. Booking is recommended as they get quite full. The ambience feels true to its theme and also the facade outside. Servers are all very punctual and very polite. The food is definitely delicious, but not the best ive ever had. The eggplant with fish fragrant was definitely my favourite and the fried dumplings options were better. Will definitely be back.
C. Q.
A different way to taste Chinese food. A good way. Great atmosphere and taste however all of our dishes were too salty. The steak was the most tastiest. A bit pricey but worth trying it out
S. B.
Best assortment of dumplings in Sydney! So tasty! Mr Wong's has a lively atmosphere. Staff were very polished and professional but friendly and professional also. We sat at the bar, which we enjoy as the kitchen is just bustling. We had the crab rice also which was really delicious.
J. C.
I can’t recommend Mr. Wong highly enough. Since I first visited 3.5 years ago I’ve literally recommended it to everyone I know who passes through Sydney, and I visit every time I’m in town as well. The food is so beautifully prepared and SO delicious. I try to order something different each time and I’ve loved all of it. Close your eyes and pick something off the menu. The cocktail bar is also fantastic and their wine list of awesome. They don’t take advance bookings at it fills up fast. People line up 30 mins before they open to put there names down for a time. Try to get a seat at the bar for a quicker wait.

Enjoyed a great dinner here. Had one of the set menus and was very happy with the food - everything was good, favorites were the scallops, the salad, the pork hoc and the green tea and fried ice cream desserts. The dim sum were good, but not better than the average yum cha place. Lovely interior and the atmosphere had a nice buzz. Even though it was a busy night, service was friendly and efficient. They even threw in an extra dessert. Highly recommend.
J. F.
Best dim sum EVER hands down. I would highly recommend to make reservations for their weekend yumcha so you dont have a long wait time. Very popular there were ppl waiting outside before they opened. Prices are more expensive but worth it for their fusion style dumplings. And presentation was perfect. Service was great as well. Food came one after another if you order alot of dishes and i believe this is purposeful so your table isnt overcrowded and you really experience each dish.
Would highly recommend!!

The best restaurant in the Sydney CBD and its popularity confirms it. Amazing Asian food which is always fresh. Always advisable to book as you will have to wait some time if you don’t. Seating upstairs and downstairs and at the bar or kitchen bar. The decor is very modern and the service is amazing. A must is the duck pancakes and dumplings. Can’t recommend highly enough.
W. Y.
The best Cantonese restaurant I have ever been to in Sydney. They offers a wide range of alcohol. It is so popular that you need to go there early enough (or make a reservation if you have more than six people). Everything is really delicious. The seafood and the fried rice are must-try!
I. M.
The food is delicious and the service is great. Very nice ambience. The cocktails are amazing too. Would definitely go again!
C. R.
Amazing food and service, great venue, not too pricey. Loved everything, but particularly the fried Balmain bugs
S. N.
Amazing experience!
The atmosphere, the buzz, the team, the service and of course the food...
We had high expectations and everything was on point!
The sommelier helped us find a bottle of wine purely based on discussion even though their wine list was as thick as a telephone book!
Will definitely recommend. A must try when in Sydney.
A. R.
My wife, baby and I had a great dinner. We tried to book but you were booked out so we took our chances and walked in and the amazing staff seated us without waiting.
All the staff were great with our little girl talking to her and helping us.
We ordered and the food came so quick and was so nice. We will deffentally be back.
Thankyou to all the staff we had a great night.
M. T.
Truly amazing restaurant. Loved everything about it. The atmosphere is buzzing, the staff are attentive and knowledgeable. The decor is perfect. We had the banquet menu, which was more than sufficient amount of food and included some incredible dishes. Make sure you save some space for dessert as they're insanely good! Especially the deep fried ice cream! Wow!!
S. P.
First time been Sydney and Mr Wong really surprised me.
Yummy & wonderfully designed dishes , nice & friendly services , warm and old school but fashion style decorations. The best one Yum Cha restaurant! I do think so!
R.
Excellent atmosphere, very professional floor staff. The only downside is surprisingly the food.
I mean they are okay nothing is terrible but you don't aim for "Okay" if you pay this price. They can do better.
Don't get me wrong, It's a good restaurant. I've been there several times already but always think it's over priced at the end.
A. W.
Recommended by a friend, said their food is worth to try. So I thought if I went to CBD, I would like to visit this restaurant. However, last weekend when my husband and I got there around 1:30pm, (we didn't plan it just happened to be nearby), the receptionist told us that we have to wait until 2:30pm. Who is going to wait for one hour in Sydney CBD during lunch time? Your receptionist was not welcoming us. You kitchen will be finished on 3pm, what's the point I come back half hour before? No, we didn't book a table in advance, because I called and no one answered the phone. Just 2 minutes after we went out the restaurant there were a couple came out of the door. If the young lady checked inside, we might have a table for lunch. You hired a blondie to be your receptionist, at least trained her well to do good customer service and get more customers for the business, understand how to manage tables efficiently. We are Sydney local not tourists.
L. G.
Overrated and overpriced for sure.
Pros: dishes are a bit above average, and the taste is a bit different, but can’t really match the price.
Decoration and atmosphere is good, but very noisy.
Cons:
We asked our waiter to recommend their best, and Kung pao chicken, one of the most famous westernized Chinese dishes was in it. When we asked him what wines to match our order, he said ‘whatever you like’... Will you expect formally dressed-in-suits waiter in a fine dining to say that?
They rushed us through.

What a place!!!! A hidden gem in the heart of Sydney. A classy yet incredibly vibrant atmosphere from the moment you walk in to the time you leave. Service was speedy and friendly with full knowledge of the menu. Food was mind blowing, in particular the hoisin sauce with the pecking duck dish (very popular by the way)!!! Couldn't stop eating it!!! Dessert was sublime. The wine menu is pages long, so a fanatic selection to work with your dish of choice. The only problem at this place is that I got full of food and had to leave. Fantastic experience and highly recommend!!!!
H. Z.
Love this place and the indoor decorations! The food was delicious and not too pricy. The volume of every dish was very big. The green tea cake was the most impressive one to me and my friend, as the cake was soft and not very sweat and was covered in sour sauce. Hence it had many layers of textures. We did not wait too long because we were willing to sit at the bar table. I'll definitely go again!
L. A.
Wow! The most amazing experience! The food, service and ambiance was outstanding! Can’t wait to go back!
A. H.
I really wanted this to be special but it's really just average. While they use fresh, good quality ingredients, the preparation is no different from your typical Chinese restaurant. The most disappointing dish was the Peking Duck which was dry and bland. For the price, we expected a lot more and would have been better off finding our local place down in Chinatown.
V. O.
The ambience is top notch, set in an old newspaper publishing building (I was told). Attentive service with the service staff always ready to look after you. The food is quite good and the selection at the banquet set menu which has 10 items! The dim sum were done very well, fish is fresh, pork hock very tasty Only thing is the peking duck...it is not as crispy as I would like.
J. V.
The restaurant was a bit difficult to find since it's located in an alley. The food was tasty, however, a bit overpriced for the quality. The wonton soup was a bit salty. Atmosphere was loud and busy. The service was fantastic. Don't bother with the fried ice cream. Joey V says " you can find a better place for less".
A. T.
One of the finest Asian fusion Chinese restaurant in town. Delicious and high quality food and drinks menu. Loved the 1950s interior. Staffs are highly professional and knowledgeable with the food and pleasant to deal with. Also is quite expensive than other places but one will love the overall experience and happy to pay the price. Only downfall is an hour of waiting before being seated. I guess they do bookings for a group but not two people (but I could be wrong). But would recommend booking before hand if you don’t want to wait outside.
N. N.
Food tasted fresh, and portion sizes were good! Definitely not cheap for dim sum, and service was a bit hit or miss; but overall cool space and design!
J. B.
The biggest problem with this place is their offerings, there's just so much!
So based on the experience of one meal, 5 Stars....
Each dish offered something new. The flavours in each dish crisp, fresh and exceptional.
This place does for Cantonese food what Ona does for coffee. It takes what you thought you knew it was like, and transports you to where you realise it should be.
Add to this a busy and interesting decor and high quality service, and you've got a great experience.
K. P.
Really great Cantonese food. It is a bit more expensive than your typical Chinese but the service and the quality of the food make up for the higher price tag.
G. “. L.
Excellent DimSum, the shrimp dumping with crab meat base was great! The Peking Duck was crispy, fried rice was tasty and crunchy.
The beef ribs - oh, the meat is soft and the source!! It was great!!
Another surprise is the mango deserts, icy and jelly ball will boost in your month!
Fruit plate... hmmm... not my thing. 😁
Overall, surprisingly good food.
Pricy Chinese food with luxury Western presentation, worth a try!
A. T.
The dumplings here are incredible! The noodle the dumplings are wrapped in have such delicate texture & makes each bite perfect! The dumpling with chive and duck was one of my favorites... so much so, that I requested a second order of it. The jasmine tea was lovely as well.
C. B. D.
Fun and unique atmosphere!! Food was delicious; drinks were tasty and not skimpy! A friend couldn’t get over the fried ice cream 😉 and they offer some incredible wines.
M. P.
An exquisite dumpling restaurant with amazing food and top notch service. I was impressed with everything here from start to finish. I highly recommend the Peking duck pancake and the pork xiao long bun, though I dont think you'll be disappointed no matter what you order.
K. P.
Highly recommend Mr Wong. The restaurant is beautifully fitted out with a high end speak easy feel. The food is super delicious. Great selection of dumplings which are yummy! Great salt and pepper calamari and the crab fried rice was really tasty. Recommend trying the mocktails too if you're off alcohol
I. H.
Went for a special occasion and was not disappointed. The King Crab fried rice was amazing and the service was great. We were very well looked after and we are both very glad we went
C. G.
Really nice lunch spot. The dumplings were all amazing and the eggplant
H.
Pricey authentic Hong Kong fine dining that makes an amazing occasional treat. Very popular but little to no waiting time since there are a lot of tables. Very cosy and ambient atmosphere. My favourite dish would be the prawn wonton soup - I fell in love the first time I tried it as the prawns were fresh, crunchy and juicy.
J. T.
First time being here as tourist. Make sure you make reservation before you come in. We try our best luck if we could get a seat without reservation. Was lucky to get a seat on high chair for 2 of us. Ordered fried rice soft shell crab and deep fried ribs szechuan seasoning. Deep fried ribs kinda salty but well seasoned with spicy seasoning and done just right , the skins crispy and the meat juicy which makes for a heavenly delight. Fried rice soft shell card is very soft. Having a string like texture. Portion was big for 2 of us. Couldn’t finish it. It’s nice dining restaurant. Server are wonderful. Great menu choices and really decent food. It was beautiful and relaxing. Prices are extremely reasonable.
C. G.
Unique interior decor with a nice atmosphere. I see why my western friends like this Chinese restaurant - food is done in a typical westernized style. That is not to say the food is not good. The xiao long bao is actually quite authentic. Other cold dishes and fried veges that I tried are not so authentic, still tasty though. A bit on the pricey side and hard to get a table without a reservation. I ended up at the bar stool twice, although I didn’t mind, that didn’t feel like a Chinese dining experience.
M.
My second time here. Previously had one of the banquets which I thoroughly enjoyed. It was very broad menu and value for money.
This time as there were 2 of us we ordered a la carte. We had the steamed dim sum platter which was really good but expensive at $38 for 8 dumplings (website incorrectly lists this item as $36). For mains we had the kung pao chicken, pork hock and pepper beef. The chicken and pork were very tasty and enjoyable. The beef had nice flavour but was tough and chewy and at $44 was not worth it.
For dessert we had the fried ice cream which was to die for.
The service is top notch and all the staff were very friendly.
C. C.
Great food and great service. Thanks to Maddison for taking care of us!
Loved the wild mushrooms dumplings.
H.
The restaurants interior was very cozy with its warm lighting to its chinese hawker setups along with the subtle french music that just blends so well. The dim sum here was superb. My favourite was the scallop chee cheong fun. Everything here is pretty pricey so be prepared to deal some damage to your wallet. This is not your typical chinatown dim sum place as they really implemented some flavours of france into each dish. A true breathtaking experience for me as I have never spent nor tasted any dimsum like this before
M. C.
Came here for lunch knowing it’s one of the best Asian restaurants in Sydney. The decor and atmosphere were nice. Fully booked even at lunch time and I could only got a bar table seat. Ordered the angus beef stir fried flat rice noodles and Yunnan Pu’er tea . The slices of angus beef were very soft and juicy but a bit greasy for me. The tea was very good. Overall a bit overpriced.
A. T.
So. Damn. Good. The meals were a little pricey, however were worth every cent (and then some). Steamed Dumplings, Duck Pancakes, King Crab Fried Rice, Pork Hock, Chocolate Mousse and Fried Ice Cream (of course). Can't fault anything. Service was also on point.
Meals: Arrived at the same time.
Plates: Removed at the same time.
Service: Quick, friendly and helpful.

This was recommended in our Lonely Planet book guide (which, I imagine, brings a lot of visitors in) and it did not disappoint! It was the perfect place to end a great week-long vacation in Sydney.
I had the steamed Dim Sum dinner special and we split the duck pancakes & crispy eggplant - all amazing. Had a tiny space for dessert so we ordered the green tea tres leches cake; I don't regret ordering it but it's certainly a distinctive taste - you better like green tea 😀
The restaurant entrance is tucked away in one of the side alleys off of Pitt St. It was packed, even on a Thursday night but we had no problem finding a place at the bar, where they serve a full menu.
Have no idea about parking since we walked here. And there were plenty of cabs off of Pitt for our return trip back.
They also took extra special care of my friend, who had a peanut allergy. Overall, highly recommend!

Very good Chinese restaurant! The five star is a fair rating among this Asian staple cuisine competitors. If you are craving Chinese, this is a must stop. I usually wage my comparison based on the quality of well knows, simple dishes such as Hot and Sour soup, dim sum, Friend rice, etc. they all passed the test!!! Delicious, good service and the kitchen staff operates like a well oiled machine engine. I sat at the bar with the clear view of the wok team. Very impressive. Good quality ingredients and no short cuts. Highly recommend!
C. M.
This was my first time at Mr Wong’s and I had a great time, couldn’t recommend it enough. It was packed out for a Monday but turns out it’s usually packed out no matter what day. For two people we had to wait about 5 minutes for a table at the bar which was fine with us as the food and service was spectacular. It’s on the pricey side so if you want to splurge, this is a good place for it. The service was great. Our hostess was very accommodating and the waitstaff were all so friendly and professional despite how busy it was. The restaurant has a very hustle and bustle type of atmosphere - busy and loud but the ambience is warm and the genuinely friendly service is more than welcoming. The food was great too, a unique fusion on Chinese cuisine.
T. W.
Excellent service from staff at the door to inside. Very attentive and friendly. Dim sum are yummy. Some dishes could be too salty, but overall it’s excellent.
M. M.
Hidden place! I love the vibes! Nice dumplings 🥟 a little dark but if you go out with friends or on a date that’s fine
C. C.
All round good experience. Very large two level restaurant, very well decorated and great atmosphere and yes it is a little pricey! Walked straight in on a Friday evening with no booking and we were seated downstairs.
Service was polite, friendly and attentive.
We ordered a selection of items from the menu, the dim sum platter to start was a selection of 6 (2x2x2) delicious mouthfuls of fried goodness!
$29 - Deep-fried dim sum platter.
$33 - Kung pao chicken, With peanuts, dried chillies & szechuan pepper.
$29 - Wok fried tapioca noodles, With chicken, snake beans and black garlic
$7 - Steamed rice
Would definitely return and recommend. Great for a romantic dinner or a more pricey dining option.

Food was great, the French waiter gave us fried ice cream for my 18th he was awesome!
w. h.
Great atmosphere. Luke warm food all around. Dimsum was well prepared, thin translucent skin, good texture and good flavoured fillings. Peking duck was dry and uninspiring. Sweet and sour crispy pork hock had very good flavour but very soggy.
H. C.
Wonderful spot to stop in for lunch in the CBD. We had a great selection of dim sum and larger dishes including the Singapore Noodles. The wait staff were attentive and the design of the restaurant was ambient and a wonderful modern take on traditional Asian interior design.

We live in Switzerland, but every time we visit Sydney we stop in for a meal at Mr. Wong.
Hidden away in a back alley behind the establishment bar, the small unassuming sign above a door is all you see... Once you're through you really see what all the fuss is about. Almost a mix between Buddha bar in Paris and Nobu in New York, this place has a vibe that is somewhat addictive. Probably not for the elderly as sometimes the music can be a little louder than you'd like if you want to have a quiet conversation.
The prices are higher than your standard restaurant, but let's be clear, this isn't your standard restaurant. The service is impeccable, the meals are well presented and the restaurant is very clean albeit quite dark.
We've heard mixed reviews from colleagues about Mr. Wongs, but to be fair, they're probably comparing them to 2 or 3 star Michelin restaurants.
Overall a really cool experience, and a definite visit in Sydney if you're into cool restaurants and have a slightly larger budget than the average Joe.

For Saturday night we ordered click and collect from Mr Wong, the crab rice, the bugs and the greens and I have to say it was 100% all the way with the food - the collection was a bit slow, but can live with that we are all dealing with the challenges - but it was cooked to perfection well packaged and was almost as good at home as in the restaurant. Have the salt and pepper bugs!~!
M.
Amazing food and service, particularly from Brian. Dim sum was plump and flavoursome. Angus beef cubes and fried ice cream are tied for favourite
A. D.
Mr Wong has nailed the Dumplings! Our.goal was to try the entire dumpling menu and the Duck Spring Rolls which we achieved.
All of the Dumplings were amazing!!!!!
The 🦆 spring rolls actually had 🦆 in them. They did not hold back on the filling.
We arrived at 10:30 as it opened and it quickly filled up.
There were lots of families with young kids.
Easy access
Centre of Sydney CBD.
Will defo be back for dumplings again and try the dinner menu at some point.
Mid to high Price Range but well worth it.
Staff were attentive and helpful.
Was great watching the chef's hand make everything and the 🦆 room.
Excellent.

Fabulous ambience serving good chinese comfort food. Be sure to book in advance or be ready to wait over at the bar for a table!
Most memorable dish: deep fried vanilla ice cream with butterscotch sauce. Yum!

We were in Sydney for a few days with work, so much to do so little time. There are ample food options in this city but Mr Wongs was suggested to us, we gave it a punt and we were so impressed with the food we went back the next day.
Stunning food, great service and a nice place with bags of atmosphere.

Amazing food and experience. The food was too good! They customized dishes for us as all three of us are vegetarians

One of my favourite restaurant in Sydney. My wife and I had a dinner at Mr Wong for our 12 years anniversary and that was just an amazing culinary experience. They make the best dumplings ever and the 8 hours slow cook beef ribs was divine. The staff was professional and very helpful.
L. R.
Always a winner! Food comes out plates by plates so my only suggestion is to ask for your favourites to come out first so you don’t fill up on the second choices!
a. g.
Nice Venue, good service, very good food.
I was reluctant at first since its just another Chinese Restaurant. I was wrong, it's pricey but worth it! Absolutely the best Chinese resto ive eaten at so far. The dumplings are the best!
N. H.
Highlight from Mr Wong is the Peking duck! Delicious in pancake duck. Kung pao chicken was nice but definitely had a kick of heat. #2 cocktail was yum. Green veges weren't anything special. My husband and I went to celebrate my birthday, found the pricing was quite expensive. Mr. Wong gets very busy so highly recommend booking online in advance, we arrived at 5:30pm, however when we left it was very busy with a line out the door!!
N. L.
Well hidden in the alley way of Sydney CBD. Great new style yum char, food was absolutely delicious.
Our favorites were the mushroom and duck dumplings - yumo! Great décor. Service was slow to start but great throughout the rest. Wish the tea was hot though...
Will be back to try out the rest of the food and taste their wide range of red wine.
V. G.
Delicious food in a great central location. Be sure to book well ahead of time and if not, jump on the dining waitlist asap.

The highly anticipated Mr Wong ended up meeting my expectations - the venue is fun, the vibe is energetic, and the food and service was quite good. We made reservations during the holiday week of NYE, so naturally, the restaurant was busy. After being seated, we were quickly greeted by the server and eventually, the manager, who was very friendly and welcoming.
To begin, we ordered the steamed dim sum platter - the mix of prawn, crab, mushroom, and beef was perfect. The texture was great and flavors were bold. Then we ordered the king crab fried rice which was a great standalone but even better complement to our other entrees (garlic and chili go a long way in this dish). For our two additional entrees, we had the highly recommended kung pao chicken, and the roasted angus beef short rib. For two people (my wife and I), the serving sizes and quantity were more than enough (we had leftovers).
To end, we had a delicious dessert - mango pudding with coconut tapioca, lychee granita and mango pearls. This was the show stopped for the night. I still speak to my wife about this dessert because it hit all the right taste points - ice cream, mango, and the creamy mix of it all.
I definitely recommend Mr Wong and was happy that we had a chance to try it out despite the busy week.

This is a marquee Chinese restaurant. You can sneak out without smashing it but I can’t hold back. Once I’m in, I’m in. In the zone. Just can’t help myself, I know the food here will blow my mind. The market price of the crab and lobster was too much in my last group dining experience, my kids ho down the quality eats. we always go a noodle dish, house made. The plane noodles last time were exceptional. Another must get is the bugs, crisp, juicy bug nugs, oh baby baby. The pipies are DOPE, we went pepper last night, what a hit. The XO here is also crazy good, just did not order it cause of the roast pork in it and my vego daughter.
I’ve recommended Mr Wong to many who come to Sydney and ask for advice. I cringe when they ignore me and eat at the fish markets..... it cost the same and the fish markets is a dive, with average food at best. My only gripe would be the steamed fish... only fillets available.
We also also smashed some exceptional wine too, make sure you engage the som for the stuff that has not made the list .

I've been there twice: first time with other three friends ordered a set meal which was $98 ppl (not really recommended, as it's hard to make sure every course in that set will satisfy you); second time I ordered Peking Duck with pancakes and Mapo Tofu (I'd say it's the best Mapo Tofu I had in SYD) - I recommend these two courses as MUST TRY. Btw, I love the interior design of their washroom, don't forget to pay a visit after finishing your meal lol

Tired of Staying home and eating that crazy food with the Kids, look not further that Mr Wongs Home Meals by Merivale. The experience is well worth the small amount of effort one has to provide and is lots of fun with a glass or 2 of wine.
We were lucky enough to recently enjoy a selection of Chinese dishes and Desert, that were amazing. The King Prawn wontons in Supreme broth was full of flavour and so easy to deliver to the table, a quick review on line on the cooking instructions and it was piping hot and ready.
The Kung Pao Chicken with Special Friend rice, just as easy to assemble and was so very tasty.
We finished off with the Chocolate Mousse with salted Carmel and chocolate crumble was amazing, shame we could not hide it from the children. Do yourself a huge favour and book a delivery.
J. N.
Bookings are only available for tables for more than 6. We were lucky to get a seat at the bar immediately (which wasn’t as bad as I expected) otherwise the wait would have been an hour. The oysters were quite small. Our absolute favourite were the pipis in XO sauce with vermicelli noodle (+$15 extra for the noodles)
B. M.
Exceptional food, atmosphere, and service.
Tip: ask for the sizchuan sauce with the dumplings - lobster, duck, & pork hock shown in pics here.
Wagyu is unreal.
The biggest fried ice cream you've ever seen on a luscious bed of butterscotch sauce. Those with a sweet tooth won't be able to share.
I love their whiskey sour.
Always book online in advance to avoid utter disappointment.
D. B.
Very tasty, style decor, friendly service, but loud and expensive, $62 USD for two bowls of soup and eight dumplings. The roasted duck hot & sour and lobster & scallop dumplings were outstanding. Pan fried lamb Schezuen dumplings were good.
M. A.
Look honestly, I was incredibly excited about coming here. I feel like I was let down a bit with my experience:
First of all, I don't remember the last time I was this frustrated with the selection. The waitress was clueless about the food (including what's special) that I eventually decided to go with a random choice I did not understand. To be fair, it's partially my fault for not understanding Chinese food.
Second, the duck was very difficult to eat. It almost felt like there was more bone than meat. I clearly don't understand how duck should be eaten, because I spent the evening taking out small bones out of my mouth. It was a terrible thing for my date to see. I felt like returning the dish.
Finally, is there a manager in this restaurant? The waitresses were running around, but no one would come in to check on how we're doing (and maybe help answer some questions about the food). That sucked honestly.
On the bright side, the fried rice was delicious and pork wonton soup was fabulous. The atmosphere is also great for a dinner.
Doubt we'll come back though. We came here for the duck, and I felt like I wasted a bit of money.
H. P.
The food is just unbelievably amazing. Every bite was incredible. The Eggplant was out of this world, the Kingfish, the duck, the deep fried ice cream, all delicious. The staff were super helpful and attentive.
N. H.
Upmarket Chinese food. A bit on the pricy side, but I think it's worth it. Good service and ambience as well. Would recommend for special occasions.
F. •.
Upmarket chinese restaurant that is on ‘to eat’ list when in Sydney. Good atmosphere, food and drinks are great too. However, for the portion and price, it’s a little overpriced in my opinion.
J. K.
I think here is one of the best restaurant in city center of Sydney.
Highly recommendable place that has many tasty diverse food, good service with acceptable price.
If you want to go there, you should make reservation first dinner time.
Even, I visited here two times for lunch and dinner for one day.
J. M.
Lovely places, decor is great!! Staff very friendly & helpful!
Food was great, we got the assorted dumplings/special fried rice/ sweet&sour pork.... all were 🙌🏼🙌🏼🙌🏼 the pork was amazing, so tasty!!! cocktails were also seriously good!! Would recommend!
M.
Yum cha, dim sum, modern chinese food. Call it what you want, this place does a great job. Tad pricey, but it was money well spent.
R. B.
Food was fabulous, service great, staff very helpful and obliging. a special mention to Jason who looked after us wonderfully.
T.
Staff were very nice and accommodating with our dietary requirements and even separated the prawns from the fried rice so it would not affect the seafood allergic but the seafood eater can still enjoy them! Unfortunately they did forget to serve us tea and missed one our dishes which we just cancelled in the end. Tried the duck pancakes due to the popularity which were decent but I would recommend the other dishes much more. The eggplant, the prawn, asparagus egg white rice roll, beef short rib were great! The dimsum were a bit on the salty side (eg wagyu puff). Pricey but they do treat you like you are at a fine dining restaurant and the ambience is nice. Because it is dark, it is hard to get nice photos but it is the experience that counts, right?
V. S.
he best dim sum I’ve ever had, and dim sum is one of my favorite foods so I have tried many. What I really liked about Mr Wong was that it was creative but still traditional, small twists that made it better and more interesting without being creative for creative’s sake. One of my favorites was crab dumplings in soup, fantastic, especially the soup with crabmeat in it. Also loved the pork long bad, juicy and flavorful. Pork turnovers were fantastic (I forgot the official name), with a lot of meat and not greasy. Duck spring rolls may have been the best spring rolls I ever had. I wasn’t as crazy about the lobster dumplings, not bad but not particularly lobstery. Dying to go again to try other items on the menu.
T. M.
The French lady we had as our waiter was so friendly and helpful throughout the whole dining experience. The food was out of this world good. The honey chicken, lobster and duck pancakes were my favourite. We got so many different flavours of dumplings and all were amazing, even the vegetarian options. Cocktails were also so good, bright and colourful. For desert we had the fried ice cream with butterscotch which was so good. I would recommend sharing this between a few people as it’s quite big. Would defiantly go back here again. Love love love

I love the ambiance of this place. Lively and upbeat. Food and service, is exceptional. Every time I come to Sydney, I make the trek to this restaurant.
A. T.
Food here is amazing and so nicely flavored. We tried the lamb chops and fried rice which was an excellent combination. We found it hard to get a server's attention so that's why I'm deducting 1 star. We left the restaurant very satisfied.

Went to try this Cantonese restaurant as it is highly recommended on Google review. I must say it is highly recommended. A little pricey but worthy. As a cantonese, I must say this place serves some authentic cantonese dishes. Go for the tea instead of still water if you like chinese-tea. Service crew is attentive.
M. C.
My favorite restaurant in Sydney, the food is simply delicious and fresh. Amazing wine list and the atmosphere of this place is superb. I cannot wait for the lockdown to be over to come back!
E. H.
Going there for yum cha in the morning. Some of the dim sum were pretty 'special' comparing to ordinary yum cha. The wagyu puff, crispy calamari roll and the duck spring roll are my favourites.
P. d. S. Q.
We live in Queensland and every time we visit Sydney, Mr. Wong is on our list. The food is authentic Cantonese with a Yum Cha and la carte Menu. The selection and quality of the food is great but is a little more expensive that you would expect. The services at time hasn't been consistent and has been disappointing at times. But in our opinion, all that is made up by the location and setting. The restaurant has very little outdoor signage and is hidden in one the back streets of Sydney's CBD... So when you arrive... it's like you just discovered a culinary gem amongst a series small service streets. The ambience walking in, takes you back 100 years in a old warehouse with a Shanghai Colonial Vintage vibe. Just a cool space! I would recommend you make a renovation since it can get pretty busy at times.
D. F.
Exceptionally good food with a modern twist on traditional Cantonese. The service is equally exceptional and of the standard expected in a fine dining restaurant. On hindsight a booking would be advisable but you might be lucky with a walk in (like me). Even without a booking, the Maître D' quickly arranged new place settings around the kitchen bar - actually a very good position being able to view across the restaurant and watch the chefs at work. My tip: don't overlook the Pigs Ears - you would never know what they were if the dish was presented to you and you weren't told what it was - they taste divine.
K. A.
Amazing food and experience. The food was too good! They customized dishes for us as all three of us are vegetarians
A. A. H.
Incredibly precise colonial design, creative a d tasty food and excellent service. Don't miss this place if you're visiting! Try some creative d sum at lunch. The duck & chive and the truffle & waygu puffs were especially yummy
B. T.
Very very good dim sum with fresh new ideas of ingredients. A few choices of chinese tea. Very expensive but one visit is not enough
E.
The crab was mouthwatering, i also ordered the kind crab fried rice and bbq honey glazed chasiu. Everything was good!! Except the price of the crab was a little bit high (i think its $250)
The place was crowded too, so make sure you book online before coming here!
We had a hard time finding a parking spot during lunch time.
Y. Y.
Heard a lot about Mr Wong, we finally made it for bf’s birthday. The food was absolutely stunning. We will come back
J. L.
One of the most popular restaurant in Sydney. I am proud of Mr. Wrong can change the way people value Chinese food. Great taste of the roast duck. Crispy and Juicy Combination.
T. P.
Enjoyed our dinner here. Food was excellent. A bit overpriced. Service was good though.
N. S.
What a place great food, service and venue. Highly recommended you order the duck pancakes, the Balmain bugs, the steamed and fried dumplings, the garlic prawns, the wonton chicken and the Angus beef! Enjoy
B. H.
The food and atmosphere here are amazing. Can't give 5 stars for the service though...it's good but not great (eg, faking knowledge of wines, bringing extra bottles of sparkling water that we didn't order, etc). Still, all in all a very good night out!
G. M.
Absolutely love Mr Wong. The food is so good, the hustle and bustle of the dining room and the kitchens adds to a great experience. Wine list is epic. Always hard to show restrain when ordering as there’s so many dishes here that are fantastic... delicious.
O. O.
Visited on a weekday with no booking and only had to wait a few minutes. The place seemed to be full after 7pm.
Nice atmosphere in a huge restaurant.
Tasty food from a large menu.
Friendly service.
Open kitchen where you can see the chef's in action.
Give a visit to the toilets even if you don't feel like going.
On the pricey side but the whole experience is worth it.
O. Y.
Amazing food the wagyu dumplings were over the top, loved everything we ate. You should also definitely try the fried ice cream.
A. S.
This is by far the best restaurant i have ever been to in Sydney!
Their seafood is to die for!
The atmosphere, the vibe, the theme, the location, the service, and of course the food... every aspect of this restaurant just comes together in the most harmonic fusion you'd expect from a five star restaurant!
C. S.
Mr Wong’s is a culinary delight and one that I highly recommend! You may have a hefty wait (unless you’re a table of 8 or more, in which case you can reserve a table), but it’s well worth it! The portion sizes are huge, so though you inevitably want to pick lots of dishes, I found two were more than sufficient. I had the aubergine and the egg friend rice with prawns, and if I could eat it again immediately, I would! Thankfully the staff are really helpful and were happy to wrap up any leftovers to take home. If you have money for a splurge or are in town for a short visit then I’d definitely brave the queue for a table - you won’t be disappointed!
M. P.
Mr Wong is an institution in Sydney's hospitality scene. Restaurant loved by Sydney siders and visitors. Can host more than 240 people at once but it gets busy every lunch and dinner. You can book a table for lunch but remember they do not take booking for dinner unless you have party of 6.
Famous for it's dim sum menu- Michael Lao, he is a true master in composing Chinese dumplings, they really look like a piece of art. Make sure you try: lobster dumpling, crab with golden soup, prawn hargow dumpling, XLO (Shanghai soup dumpling), truffle n wagu puff and lamb dumplings.
The whole menu can be a bit overwhelming for the first timers. Make sure you order duck (Peking with pancakes or Chinese roasted with plum source), S n P bugs, czar siu Tootfish (something really unusual), pork hock, crispy eggplant and crab fried rice.
For a special occasion a bit $$$ but unbelievable tasty is mud crab with black pepper souce or lobster with ginger and shallots.
Do not forget about vanilla deep fried cream with butterscotch source to finish.
Mr Wong offers also one of the best wine list in Sydney with over 5000 position you should not order any of bottle shop wide known brands. Be adventurous, ask sommeliers to help. With the prices starts from $60 per bottle, it doesn't have to be expensive. Also, amazing cocktail menu with my fav: Tin Hau Temple and Emperor Wu.
Highly recommended for any occasion with friends and family. Not the best if you like quiet romantic dinner and have garlic and soy allergy.
N. Z. (. O.
While this place is expensive, their dumplings are legit creative and tasty. They have a huge variety to choose between. Their fried ice cream is to die for
P. M.
We went to Mr Wong for my husbands birthday. The service was exceptional, food and atmosphere were really good. My husband didn't want to choose the food so we went with the chef menu, which was plenty of food with a good selection for us to try a bit of everything. We will return for sure!
L. S.
I’m always wary of fancy asian restaurants but Mr Wong did not disappoint. The dumplings were delicious, creative and not hipster trash. The Ma Po tofu was so soft and silky. They managed to make a comfort dish better, well presented and somehow not pretentious. Just wish I wasn’t pregnant at the time because the cocktails looked spectacular.
y.
Delicate renovation. Modern and authentic Chinese food. Friendly staff and professional service. Booking is recommended as the queue in front of the restaurant is normally long.
K.
Yummy dim sum place for a business lunch. Great environment and amazing service.
M. G.
Excellent food but really expensive. Not worth what you pay (unless someone else is paying of course)
J. A.
We had the $84 banquet tonight and LOVED IT! Thank you to our waiter Arthur for looking after us and making the night exceptional - his service really was magical. Each course had so much flavour and we left completely full and satisfied (unlike many other fancy restaurants). Vibe is nice, the venue itself is beautifully designed and themed. A great way to celebrate a special occasion.
T. N.
Did tea here on Sunday; great food; excellent service. Two dishes stand out - the shrimp toast - crispy but not oily and the egg white rice roll - steaming hot and not overcooked. Unlike most dim sum places, dish was served one at a time!
J. L.
Food is good and tasteful, but some presented in a cheap way. If you're not a local or insider, you might get a "different" treatment by the stuff. The restaurant is quite on the "rush through" side than a calm atmosphere - noise level is high.
A. P.
Mr Wong ticks a lot of boxes. The food is excellent, wine list comprehensive and service is usually good. Their Yum Cha service is particularly good, as is their Roast Duck during regular service and the Deep Fried Ice-cream is a must. The decor has a great old world Shanghai feel to it, and I prefer the downstairs area for seating. It is always quite busy, so do try to get a booking if you’re going at a peak time.
E. C.
Excellent! Excellent! Excellent! This place made me change my idea about Chinese food. I’m never been a great fan. I had a lunch here with friends and I would go back every week! Food is fresh and finely prepared. The venue is unique, casual and stylish at the same time. Service was impeccable and prices are not high
J. F.
Excellent food experience. Great warm service. We will bw back.
S. C. E. C.
The environment was fantastic and food are amazing but do make a booking in advance or prepare to wait a while before you get in (even though I believe it is worth the wait :)
S. H.
Excellent high quality food. We arrived as a party of 3 on a Monday night at about 7. Not able to get through on the phone we just risked the chance on a table. We ended up having a choice of a 30 minute wait for a table or seats at the downstairs bar. We took the bar seats and where very happy how the worked out. Our food choice was mixed steamed dumplings, duck pancakes, salt and pepper calamari and the cubed Angus. The atmosphere and staff service were exceptional. Highly recommend for the traveler trying to find something good amongst the mass of food in the area. $193 paid for dinner and a few soft drinks.
D. C.
Amazing service, friendly staff and really delicious fresh food! Kung pao chicken, deep fried dim sim and deep fried ice cream were our favourites!
D. L.
Food is presented well, service is great, food is average,
B. T.
Great atmosphere, food and service. Catered to my wife with coeliac disease very well.
H. K.
Best chinese restaurant since a long time! Very busy, reservations only for 6 people and upwards. Very good service, fantastic food.
A. M.
Growing up in Hong Kong I am super critical of Chinese food abroad. It’s so rare to find authentic food in western countries! Mr Wongs didn’t disappoint. I came here as I heard they have a gluten free menu! Finding good gluten free Chinese is hard!! One of my best meals while in Sydney
P. M.
The scallop sashimi dish is out of word, fish and seafood are generally good, the Australia lobster is well seasoned, duck, chicken basically everything we have tried were impressive. The restaurant it’s very busy and can be loud though.
E.
Awesome interior and good food. Pricey but go for the vibes.
A.
Absolutely lovely service combined with the most amazing asian flavours make this the go to restraunt and is at the top of my list for Asian food in Sydney.
M. P.
Wonderful Cantonese restaurant in Sydney. Without a doubt, my favourite in this city. Genuine flavours and joyous + helpful staff. A great dining experience. My preferred dishes: egg noodles, and seafood platters.
M. H.
Very authentic and yummy Chinese food with an impressive choice of dishes. We ordered the char siu which was surprisingly good, wanton soup which taste exactly like it should and the mushroom consommé which again was simply delicious. In addition, we ordered the salt and pepper calamari which I don’t think is a Chinese dish and was simply too salty and lastly, the signature fried rice which was done very well except that it was again too salty.
Fantastic place and decor albeit a bit difficult to find (look for some directional arrows on the walls when you’re along Tank Stream lane). Really industrial looking and it feels like you’re dining in a go-down. Full marks for decor!
Plenty of servers, very crowded so please go early. Loved the place but one star taken off for being a tad pricey and food being too salty.
R. B.
Great food great service but very crowded.
M. “. C.
If you are in Sydney i recommend this superbe chinese restaurant. Especially the dumplings! Best dumplings in town. Also the cocktail menu is fresh and has a wide variety of signature cocktails.
M. T.
The dim-sims and the dessert we ordered were my favourite! Food took longer than we hoped, our fried rice somehow was "lost" and we cancelled it.
We were served by few different waiters. Most of them obliging. One waiter had an air of arrogance about him. Apart from that a great experience.
m. v.
I loved it. Bit pricey but the dumplings were some of the best I have had. Especially the the lobster and caviar which was a special at the time. Wine list is about an inch thick, very pricey but the range is awesome. Sommelier was attentive but not overly pretentious and recommended excellent matches to dishes in all their price range. It’s typical Merivale. We got top service and was a great space to dine.
Y. C.
The half duck we ordered was nice. At least it was proper roasted unlike some other Chinese restaurants who use fried ducks. However the fried rice was half cooked, which is shocking considering its price level. The environment was cosy.
D. M.
A delectable cross section of Chinese cuisine blended with attentive and fantastic service. The atmosphere is alive and the staff are impeccably presented and respectful making appropriate food and wine suggestions. Amazing first experience.
A. C.
Excellent!! Had the dimsum off the menu - dumplings were right up there with the best we've had, service was spot on even on a busy Friday lunch.
B. W. T.
We love every dish and the vibe there! Mr. Wong’s deep fried vanilla ice cream with butterscotch is really good!
M. S.
High quality food that is great for a special occasion. A bit pricey but worth it.
L. P.
First time back after about 5 years. Absolutely sensational. Outstanding service, food and an incredible vibe. It’s certainly not cheap but the dishes are generous and packed full of quality ingredients and flavour.
M.
Had the wok fried angus beef cubes, mapo tofu, king crab fried rice and fried ice-cream. Beef cubes were well-seasoned and tender while fried ice-cream was creamy and butterscotch sauce complemented the dessert well. Service was excellent. Only downside is that the location can be slightly difficult to locate.
d. r.
Wow! Really nice food and vibe in there. And the wine cellar is one of a kind!
B. W.
Great place for a long lunch with friends. Definitely book and enjoy all the dumplings.
C. M.
Very impressed with the service and quality food. Perfect place for special occasions!
C. J.
The food was incredible if a bit on the pricey side. The salads were crisp and flavoursome, the meat and seafood were all made from choice cuts, nothing was overly greasy and the food came out quickly. While not the best Chinese I have been to (Hakkasan London takes that spot), it is definitely in my top 5. The only issue was the speed with which drinks were delivered. You could order a beer before a course had arrived, receive and finish the course and still be waiting for your drink. It is definitely worth a visit, it is one of Sydney’s gems, just make sure to order your next drink while you are half way through the preceding one!
C. J.
We only popped in for a few things but they were fantastic. Our favourite was the waygu puff. Yum yum yum. Had to order more!!
D. H.
The service was amazing. However I wasn't a fan of the food. We had the steamed dumplings platter, sweet and sour pork, and lobster fried rice. Maybe it was just the night we went as other people have about it.
S. A.
Great ambience, good Chinese food, love roasted duck, assorted fried dimsum, Stir Fried Scallop & Seafood. Booking is required.
A. C.
Okay this is one of my favourite restaurants in Australia. I've eaten here over a dozen times and the food never disappoints. The steamed dumplings and the crab fried rice are must haves.
We took a friend and she loved the decor and vibe of the place as well as the food!
Bookings alert!
Upside of the new system is ease of on-line without having to que up to get a time to return for your sitting
Downside is the non refundable $100 per person booking fee. It does come off your bill but if you are vegan/vegetarian you'll struggle unless you go big on your wine choice.
Personally I feel a deposit for no showing is reasonable and happily pay them, however without knowing a place I'd look elsewhere before dropping a hundred per person.
M. H.
This is my go-to place when I cant be bothered to cook anything! Amazing food!! My children love it here!
L. Y. D.
Literarily the best modern Chinese restaurant I’ve ever tried and that includes back home in Shanghai. It is very pricey though so expect to pay a lot but worth every dollar. Service is out of this world and the food was simply amazing. If you love trying new food, you have to come here.
M. G.
I can understand why this place is booked out most nights the food is amazing
J. A.
Always love the food here...too many good dishes to pick from
L. L.
Great Asian food in a modern atmosphere so it's really the best place to enjoy Chinese food in a different fancy / modern / industrial setting. Had amazing dumplings and pork there!
F.
Pretty average food to Chinese, been there twice and I didn't need to pay but according to my other friends it's very expensive. However as a non-charsiu fan I would highly recommend their char siu, the best I've ever had, not too greasy but very rich in flavour.
D. L.
great food, great place, great service!
we had the "typhoon fried rice" and it was good!!
rather pricey though! but portion size is big
T.
Good Cantonese food.
Beware that there is a non refundable 100+ charge per person. You have to order more than that or else you won't get a refund. The staff also won't tell you whether you what you have ordered have met the minimum...
A. J.
What an amazing experience.
Excellent food,excellent service,excellent witty staff.
First class from start to finish and at a very reasonable price compared to some other top class restaurants we frequently visit.
Highly recommend..
Z. c.
Food was good , service was excellent.
Minus 0.5 star for the small sized table which can barely fits 2 dishes. They had to bring another wobbly side Table to fit my mud Crab dish. I'd like to see them offering a larger table to customer planning to order more than 3-4 dishes.
Minus 0.5 star for a billing issue . They charged me the full amount in the bill without crediting me for the 2x$100 deposit required to secure the booking.
They only realised when I mentioned it to the head waiter which then took the $200 off the bill. Get your booking system right please ....
M. C.
One of the best dinners I've ever had. Great vibe, excellent service. The food is just amazing and the sommelier is happy to recommend you the right wine for your choice of food. Excellent place for a special occasion!
V. A.
Very cool and urban spot. Very central. Great for a Saturday evening dinner because is near lots of other cool bars. Good service and amazing food. You have to try the fried rice. Take the large one to share.
J. B.
Sat the bar and ordered dim sum for 1. I had the crispy dumpling pork hock edamame and the roast duck chive dumpling. Both were outstanding, best dim sum I’ve ever had!
T. H.
Good food, but expensive for Chinese food. Place seems to always be packed. Atmosphere was trendy, not what you expect from a typical Chinese restaurant.
E. L.
Ok, as a Chinese from Singapore, I must say that the food isn’t overwhelmingly great, given the high price. (A$15 for 4 siew mai😭)Perhaps it’s to cater for local taste.. but the ambience is great and the location very chic. Getting there feels like a scene taken out from a Hollywood movie. For those using Google Map to direct yourself there, just walk to Bridge Lane and you’ll find it. Google Map had the problem of bringing you to the dead end or to the back of the building
J. W.
Wowowowowowowowowow. If you only have time for one meal in Sydney, go to Mr. Wong. Definitely get the beef puff.
Y. G.
The mud crab there is amazing! If you are in Sydney, it definitly worth a visit.
G. M.
Dined here with my wife to celebrate and occasion and this place definitely encapsulates fine dining. The decor is amazing and its tribute to Chinese design is truly breathtaking. The staff are professional, sharp and very observant. The food, namely the salt and pepper lamb cutlets and the kung pao chicken are full of flavours that melt in your mouth. Finally the desserts...deep fried ice cream or mango pudding, i couldn't decide so i had both and I definitely have no regrets about it. Easily one of the most memorable experiences to have!!
J. L.
Amazing food and service for a large bridal party group!
L. S.
Nice asian modern food. Lovely decor. 5 stars.
G. M.
This place is quite large and was absolutely slammed on a Tuesday night. We waited for over an hour for a four top. Worth the wait though, food was awesome. Definitely need to go a few times to try everything. Duck was outstanding!
C. W.
5/5 for the ambiance, the wait staff and the food. Had an amazing experience here and unlike typical Chinese restaurant, our food was served after we have finished the previous one instead of shoving everything on our table.
The dimsum is heavenly and would not go wrong. We ordered fried rice but unfortunately that was normal. If I were to visit again, I would strictly order dimsum only.
C. C.
I am very impressed with Mr Wong. A very sophisticated restaurant. Even though I showed up in trackies and with no reservation, the staff made me feel very welcome and comfortable. My compliments to Gabriell she was a fabulous server. I would recommend the prawn wonton soup, the king crab fried rice and the kung pao chicken. The meals are outstandingly delicious. Beautiful flavour. Can’t fault this restaurant.
M. N.
A great place to eat, the quality of food is excellent as well. We enjoyed every second of our time here. Highly recommended.
A. F.
Been advised by an American to make sure you visit this place when you’re in Sydney and I did. It was an awesome Chinese restaurant in the heart of an Australian city with delicious food.
P. M.
Wonderful food and great service. Nice and cozy atmosphere.
A. O.
Whole chinese duck for $80 a signature dish. Food is exceptional.
R. A.
Walking into Mr.Wongs you find a loud, bustling and dimness restaurant. If your on a first date I guess it's great as there are plenty of distractions incase your date isn't going so well.
The food overall is poor. The dumplings would have to be one of the best I've eaten but for half the price you can find the same quality at Cabravale. The King Crab corn soup was too salty. The King crab fried rice had way too many flavours (calm down). It was so intense I couldn't eat it.
I can't even remember what else was ordered (that's not good). At occasions I had to remind whoever floated by that I was still waiting on drinks. The wait staff were missing. Overall Mr Wongs is overrated.
O. E.
One of the best western Chinese restaurants .
b. z.
Mr Wong's has the best food - if you appreciate fine dining but not miniscule servings this is the place to go! allways enjoy the food from here
M. F. L.
A friend recommend and we went without reservation. They accommodated us. Thank you. Wonder full staff. Good food. Very busy place.
D. W.
Wonderful service, great cocktails and a few amazing dishes. The cheong fan was probably as good as we've ever had. Loved the sweet and sour pork too - very clever.
Broth in the xiao long bao was delicious, but the skin was just not quite as 'delicate' as we'd hoped. Vegetarian fried rice was good, but we def prefer the one they do at Queen Chow. 🤷♂️
Shu mai was OK, so was the prawn toast - have certainly had better though.
R. G.
The food is delicious but quite expensive, however it is in the CBD. The entrance is through a small alley so if you’re not familiar with it, keep your eyes peeled!
Definitely get the duck, and xiao long bao.
B. N.
Excellent duck! Service was great, not pretentious. Building/decor is beautiful, food came out quick. I'll be back.
B. D.
1st time here and wow, just wow. Fantastic vibes, service and of course food! Vegetarian fried rice was to die for and I'm a meat eater!
Highly recommended for a special occasion.
P.s don't do the banquet, it's way too much food.
e.
food was great! loved it, espeically the fried icecream. it was so good!! however one of the waitresses were really rude when she first greeted us and served us one of our dishes. did not like her attitude and i felt uncomfortable. dont know her name but seriously?? she needs to work on her customer service. other than her, the rest of the staff were wonderful and i would come back again for the food itself <3333
C. G.
Amazing food. The best Char Sui pork I've had in Australia.
A. C.
Really good Chinese restaurant (Westernised). Top quality food (not as insanely expensive as you would expect). The place is always busy though, and the wait can be quite extensive. Excellent service and really delicious food. Try to make a booking if you can
D. F.
Overhyped and overpriced yumcha...
The sweet and sour pork, doesn't look the most presentable, looking like a slab of meat... but it was actually nice.
I had a banquet menu; so this may have skewed my thoughts on the food/price.
P. P.
Poor Peking duck. Pancake skin is thick and powdery. Bolmain bug is over salty. Gong Bao chicken lacks the peppercorn taste
G. A.
Don’t know how to explain my experience while eating here ,but I recommend to come here
J. R.
Don't believe the hype. Food was good but could get the same in Chinatown for half the price.
More importantly, choose the right people to be the face of your business and money might not come into the equation.
Served by multiple staff members, only one with any personality and the rest were absolutely not the right fit.
S. S. S.
Best possible choice to celebrate our twin girls birthday. Lunch at Mr. Wong's - Sydney.
Excellent friendly service, awesome surroundings and all the outstanding dishes, we ordered, well over 15 were exquisite- to perfection. We will come again, and again.
J. D.
Excellent attentive service, nice pleasant atmosphere. Food is pretty good too. Don't recommend the king crab fried rice. Eggplant was amazing. Series of truffle specials were delicious but expensive.
T. B.
Absolutely amazing quality of food and selection of drinks and wines, although always extremely busy, staff try their best to accommodate. A must is the mango dessert and the end of the meal together with an Espresso Martini using Patron XO of course !
A little expensive, but worth going and going back to
M. P.
Great food, great service. Very varied menue. Fabulous decore , particularly down stairs. Not cheap but definately worth it. Great for long relaxed lunch.
H. C.
My family and I had a fabulous night at Mr Wongs tonight.
Our waiter Costa, was a delight and had some of the best service I have ever experienced.
The food and atmosphere was impeccable!
I highly recommend this experience!
R. W.
It's a hidden gem but I think everyone knows about it so not a secret for sure! Had to book in advance due to covid and minimum $100 per head for reservations but also to pay for the food and drinks. Tried the Beijing duck which tastes okay but the crispy duck is definitely more southern China style than the real deal in Beijing. Still the taste is not bad! The salad is pretty refreshing and the char siu fish fillet was something interesting. The crab meat fried rice would have been better if it's without the salty flakes. Tofu was nice but also a bit too salty and the pork is too sweet for my like. Overall interesting dining environment and some good dishes. Will probably try dim sum next time.
G. C.
Awesome location. Service excellent. Sophisticated yum cha dishes. Not completely traditional, westernised to appeal to a wider clientele, but still Cantonese. Bookings mandatory. No comparison elsewhere on Sydney.
L. “. N.
Peking duck is a MUST , dim sum was ok - not worth the price it is set at. Cheung fan was amazing
E. k.
Loved the dining experience at Mr Wongs. The service was great, cocktails looked and tasted impressive and food was delicious - perfect for sharing.
G. “. 7.
Mr Wong! Damn good food with great portion sizes! Lovely atmosphere, and great staff
A. J.
A fun unique dining experience. The food was outrageously good. The staff was on top of it and the atmosphere was super cool. Highly recommend this place.
B. K.
This place is a maze of great flavours, endless wine lists and top notch service. Make sure to book otherwise your chances of getting in are slim. Amazing every time, definitely worth the money and I cannot recommend it highly enough!
m. p.
decent food but overpriced for what it is.
L. T. L.
Delicious, lovely environment without being too pretentious.
R. A.
Very expensive but the food is good. The fried eggplant i didn't rate at all.
p. b.
From the moment your walked from the door to the table the staff are never far, the food time and time again has spoken for itself. Everything from flavour stuffed DimSims to juicy Pekin duck pancakes it's got something to please almost anyone. The Ms9+ steak was cooked to perfection and was complimented with the an amazing wasabi salsa. Extensive wine, sake, whiskey and cocktail list. Do yourself a favor and check this place out. (Covid health plans in place)
T. P.
Food and service was fine.
Everyone found the venue was way too hot!!
V. O.
Me and my partner went for my birthday meal. A bit over priced for what it is and have had better dumplings and duck in hong kong for less than a third of the price. Saying that the service, wine list, atmosphere, interiors and food are all very good. The sweet sour pork and the duck pancakes were the highlights. The aubergine was good but needed a bit more of a tang to balance out the sweetness. The dumplings were nice, could have done with some vinegar, soy dipping sauce.
All in all a lovely experience and value for money (or lack of it) is just what you’d expect from a merivale.
A. P.
Amazing food, drinks, decor and service. We had the banquet and the variety and flavours were phenomenal.
J. L.
Great venue with a good vibe. Food is good but a but overpriced. Highlight was the duck
j. l.
Amazing food, enjoyed sitting at the bat watching the kitchen do it's thing. Waiters where amazing, didn't even really look at the menu, just trusted their judgement on food.
J. A.
Amazing chinese food and impressive wine list
J. W.
Great food (standard Asian fare but executed well) and atmosphere. Long wait for a table on Saturday (about 2 hours) so check in early and go grab a drink at the bar
L. l.

Mr. Wong was an awesome experience. The atmosphere of the place was incredible and the service was great. Delicious and affordable, I would highly recommend for a lunch or dinner date.

Beautiful ambience . Very impressed by the dessert nice finish for my dinner .

No booking, short queue, quickly accommodated. Very very busy but good service and help with menu on first visit.
Must go again on next trip to Sydney and cannot recommendmore more highly..
Thank you!

Have visited on many occasions and this place neber disappoints. Food is amazing and they have some dishes that seperate them from the norm. What we go back for is the service. Driss is the only person you want to wait on you. My husband and I went to celebrate his birthday and after a long day were a little indecisive with our choices and Driss went above and beyond to ensure we were comfortable and made recommendations with no fault. He was bubbly and so happy to engage in conversation. He made it a very memorable night!

If you go to dinner to Mr.Wong is is best to go by 6:00pm otherwise have to wait a while for a table. They do not take bookings for dinner unless it is a big group ,if it's for 2 people then it's just walk in and see if there is anything available and will let you know the wait time.
M. F.
are you my form teacher, i had no idea that you had a restaurant keep up the good work sad to hear you have gone from my school but hope all is well

The food is delicious, and most of the staff are fantastic.
Unfortunately our evening was marred with a particularly rude waiter, and ,for the price they charge, plastic chopsticks and paper place mats are a huge disappointment.

Some of the best dumplings and possibly the best vegetarian dumpling anywhere - yes, it's right here at Mr Wong. Fab ambience, a fine wine list and a reasonably exciting menu makes Mr. W deserve a visit - and then fortunately you manage to cross the threshold of the min $100 per head minimum spend! That makes it no place for non drinkers as it takes a lot of eating to get to the min spend!! Try Mr. Wongs. Hopefully Merrivale will wake up and get more fair with the min spend requirement.

Great food. Really fantasic venue and good service.

If you are looking for Western style Chinese food, Mr.Wong is one of the very best in Sydney. Outstanding food and 1910s Shanghai Style atmosphere is amazing.
E. F.
Delicious food!! Suggest ordering the banquet - get a taste of everything! Carmen the Hostess always does a great job ensuring you’re well looked after.
S. J.
Had dinner at Mr Wongs for two. Place was buzzzing with a good atmsphere and nice interior design and the staff were very very very nice so it gets 4 stars. The Chinese food was very average in my opinion and were it not for the great staff and decor and atmosphere I would have given 3 stars.
Would I recomend this place? 100% yes!

Excellent quality food and service are the reasons bookings are essential. Not a well advertised place from the front however once inside you will likely find a pleasurable atmosphere. I was there for a business lunch where we shared a number of dishes. The duck and truffle dumplings and the sticky lamb were highlights for me. Seems to be a good wine selection. Loved this place.

After attempting to eat here on a regular basis and never wanting to wait the 2 hour queue, my boyfriend and I finally got a table last week for lunch. Food and drink were delicious but the service was next level! Waitstaff were polite, friendly and attentive to detail as we mentioned we were celebrating our anniversary and they further surprised us with a complimentary dessert saying "Congratulations". Very happy with our first experience and am definitely looking forward to coming back here.

This is a must visit when in Sydney. Tucked back in a laneway you need to know it's there.
The next level, most amazing Asian cuisine. I highly recommend visiting this place.

Best dumplings ever. Skip mains order dumplings only

Isolation birthday treat - absolutely brilliant!
Phoned ahead to give advice on achieving best possible, restaurant quality restaurant...didn’t have the time to follow the advice due to my own commitments, but even when microwaved the crispy eggplant was still crispy and super tasty. Delivered with a smile and personalised, friendly service. Best take away ever..please keep doing take away when you reopen! Massively impressed! Thank you!

Best service from Elisa! Soft, friendly and helpful. Incredible food and services! 11/10 recommend this place and elisa, you are the best! You deserve more recognition by your smiley face and service. Outstanding! Great drinks!

The food is second to none, been a favourite for over 3 years now, myself and my partner come back at least every second week.
Since return visits, Alistair’s service is to be commended. An absolute gentleman and an asset to the company!!

Had a great night here. Fantastic service great ambience and wonderful food.
It's not cheap by any means but you get what you pay for.
L. C.
Beautiful food. Upper class Asian food but a little pricey. Service was good and was great for our group booking. Will return for a special occasion.
E. W.
5 star dim sum. Delicate, exquisite, delicious.
J. E.
Lovely food, lovely atmosphere. Service was fantastic. Sommelier was off the charts, really knew his stuff; made the evening and the meal.
S. M.
Atmosphere, service and facilities awesome, but food just seemed to be a bit one dimensional for me. They went out of their way to accommodate our child's requirements.
B. U.
Good service and good food. Nice work on Crispy pork hog sweet&sour sauce.
M. T.
HIGHLY RECOMMEND!!! Everything was simply amazing here, especially the king crab dumplings! I will definitely be returning and hope the consistency of the food stays the same! Can't wait to come back again for the dumpling and try other dishes. The Peking duck pancake was amazing too!!!!
A. R.
Had work Christmas lunch was amazing and had a great time
A. K.
The quality of the food is excellent. The service is friendly and are quick. The location of the place is a little tricky for people who are not very familiar of the city's layout, but once you find it, its warm and welcoming.
BOOKING is essential if you wish to dine in the restaurant. Either online or at the reception ( Arrive around 5-6pm when they open to reserve a seat ASAP). This is my only negative point of the restaurant, it can be frustrating however in my opinion its definitely worth the wait.
C.
What a treat! Be sure you reserve a table at this Sydney jewel! The service is impeccable and the food delicious! From a warm greeting at the door to a delicious meal, Mr Wong’s lived up to it’s great reputation for a fabulous evening! Giusy was our server, and I cannot say enough about her kindness in educating us on the menu selections, working with the complications of our allergies and being absolutely amazing with every detail of our meal!
I. S.
Absolutely lovely place with excellent food and great atmosphere!!!!!

Superb service, excellent ambience and greet for groups. Food wise, nothing extraordinary.
Came here with a mixed group of Asians and Westerners. We made remarks of the saltiness of several of our dishes not only did the restaurant manager feedback it to the chef, explained how it was prepared. After a second round of feedback she took back the dish, waived it off our bill and offered the dessert for free. Without any fuzz, complains and all smiles on her face. What an extra-ordinary service and professionalism. Well done.
Won’t come back for the food, unless guests have a particular flavour for salt. Definitely worth it for the service and ambience.

I had the opportunity to stay in Sydney a few years ago for work and I went to Mr. Wong several times in 4-weeks. I really fell in love with the interior, the buzz it had, and - of course - the food! It was just amazing! Unfortunately, I have not been able to return yet but I definitely will in the foreseeable future.
N.
Great ambience. Good food. Friendly and fast service. Love the Peking Duck pancakes!
S.
The best food I've ever eaten in my life. Crazy good. If you haven't been here, you must come and try! Best dish was all of them. Loved every bite!!!
S. H.
Delicious dim sum, and a great menu to choose from. The venue is very cool but it also often feels like the service is lacking because of that. A good place to go with a group, and conveniently located next to Palmer & Co for post dinner cocktails.
P. V.
Very busy, bookings recommended. Delicious food great staff and atmosphere is awesome
J. T.
I really wanted to give this place a 5 star rating because of all the hype and anticipation, but sadly it didn't deliver. The service and atmosphere is exactly what you would expect from a high-end/Merivale venue. The food.. well it's not too bad; and that's a problem
W. M.
My girlfriend and I are visiting from out of town and this place was recommended to us by a friend. Said that this was one of the places we absolutely had to try. It did not disappoint!
We were in a time crunch as we had plans later in the evening but really wanted to try as much of the food as we could. We went with the banquet meal for 2 and our server, Matteo, ensured the courses were out in a timely manner. He did a great job explaining the dishes and we were able to make it to our next event with time to spare.
All in all, I would absolutely recommend this place to anyone visiting. The food is great, the atmosphere is truly unique, and the service is outstanding!
N. M.
Beautiful venue and the food is good! But very noisy and you can't make reservations which is very frustrating. Nobody wants to line up for a table, it's a not club.
S. J.
Absolutely outstanding food. Every dish I've had here has been distinct, incredibly flavorful, and had an amazing mixture of textures. I'm not a particular fan of their custom cocktails (too sweet for my palate) but the bartenders are fantastic and can make anything I've ever asked for offmenu. This is one of my favorite places to eat in Sydney.
J. R.
My only words are WOW and SENSATIONAL we visited here one a night that we were told over the phone that we needed a week in advance to get a table (it was a Tuesday) I was honestly surprise by this response so when walking by popped our heads in to find that a cancellation scored us a table for a little over an hour. This dining experience was beyond incredible. One of the most exquisite menus I have ever seen and the food was like noting I’ve eaten anywhere in the world. The team who have developed this restaurant as well as the incredible staff have truly got done outing more unique than I have ever seen. I cannot wait to some back to Sydney to visit. I definitely know to book for next time. The wait is so worth it

Good servie, good food (especially dim sum and Beijing duck). I will not explain anymore because the pictures will explain themselves ;)

We are from a Prestige Homewares Wholesale Supplier who is at the forefront of exceptional Customer Service experiences and we hosted a Farewell Dinner for our Head of Customer Contact .Arthur was our Host for the evening and have had a Gold Star visit with Arthur who went completely above and beyond with how he cared for us - a complete asset to the Business !

By far the best Chinese restaurant in Sydney. For me, nothing else compares to the flavours and atmosphere. Been here for multiple meetings and personal dinners and can definitely say that while the prices are a little hefty, the quality is unbeatable. Definitely a go to spot if you're needing to impress a client or want to enjoy a special occasion. Would highly recommend the deep fried ice cream, mango pudding and beef short rib.

Located in a very old converted warehouse tucked away in a back alley between George and Pitt Streets. They don't take bookings so get in early, otherwise, you'll be joining a queue. We went on a Monday and it was packed. Quality food in buzzing venue. Great service. They forgot one dish but quickly rectified that.
S. S.
Excellent service, delicious food of fresh ingredients. Venue with style. $$$

Love this place, always great food
M.
Delicious food and fantastic service. They even brought out our dessert with a candle and chocolate writing saying 'happy anniversary' for us, which made us feel very special!
C. S.
The food was great. Absolutely loved the sweet and crisp pork and the salt and pepper calamari. The service was ok - we had to ask three times for tap water. The best part ended up being the bar downstairs after dinner. The people watching was sooooo interesting! What a crowd.

Visited for a lunch (2.15pm) . My guest was late and at 3.00 they came and said that the kitchen was closing . Since then it went backwards . Felt we were rushed and we also asked to leave at 5pm due to the dinner trade. Food was great but the whole experience was overpriced . Wouldn't go back .

Tucked away in what appears at first glance to be a back alley, this restaurant delivers innovative takes on classic Chinese dishes. It appears that there's always a long line but we managed to get a seat at the bar after a short wait.I got the dim sum which were enormous, delicious and vibrantly colored. My dining companion got the sweet and sour pork, which was good, but had a lot of fat.

Chinese dishes localised for OZ ppl. Good vibes here.

Cantonese food superbly prepared. Strange retro decor, but has character and atmosphere. Have not eaten here for a few years. It first opened at the location of the Tank nightclub and I visited soon afterwards. It was superb then and still is according to my friends. The crispy duck was epic, moist but dry outside, the spare ribs really tasty and the special fried rice delicious. In fact everything on the menu is excellent. I always avoid the seafood in the tank, it makes me think that they're on death row waiting for the inevitable end. Great staff, attentive and friendly. Not the cheapest but worth it. Try it you won't regret it..
H. G.
Great tasting Cantonese food and high level service. Still great despite COVID. Seems to be a lot of model types eating there
M. M.
Expensive (for us). At just over $200 for four dishes and two desserts, enough for 3-4 people. And there were only two of us! But very yummy, fresh and perfectly prepared dishes. Fast and top notch service. Ambience a little busy and noisy downstairs, but manageable. Highly recommended for those whose budget allows it.

I had lunch at Mr Wong on a weekday, and the food was delicious. The atmosphere was lively, and the interior is well designed. There is an open kitchen in the middle of the restaurant where you can sit and watch the food bring cooked, nice to eat there if you are alone or with another person.
I would recommend booking before you come here, even on weekdays.

Tonight we had a large group of 10 and we found the service to be 5 stars and so was the food!
Unfortunately I have some dietary requirements (yup one of those annoying people) however I have to say iv never been so well looked after!
We all got the banquet menu and the staff specially prepared my own dishes to meet my requirements, they exceeded my expectations and kept me well informed of what I could and couldn’t have.
I was blown away with the personalised service I received and as mentioned it was the best restaurant experience! They were very accommodating and made me feel very welcome!
Can’t wait to go back again and highly recommend it!

Mr. Wong and Hugo’s Manly are our two go-to’s every time we visit Sydney.
Amaaaazing food, friendly and helpful service and such a lovely historic venue. Highly recommended a visit.

Great food - simple yet refined. Definitely go for the Matcha Tres Leches desert!! Service is impeccable - prompt, friendly, and polite. Turned up without a reservation on a Friday and they managed to find us a table quickly. Well done - dumplings done right.

So I am not convinced this place is worth the ridiculous wait, but I decided to still give this place 5 stars because the food is definitely solid, presentation is beautiful, and I really did enjoy my meal.
Steamed dim sum: I love the assortment and perfect for a party of 2 because we each got to try one of each. This selection is seafood heavy and fancy!
Fried dim sum: loved the fried assortment as well and the selection was pork heavy. We also enjoyed this selection just as much!
Peking duck: Peking duck in the more Taiwanese style where you get the thin wrapper instead of the Cantonese thick buns. The duck itself was phenomenal! This is one of my favorite dishes to order at a Chinese restaurant, and this place did not disappoint
Fried rice: to be honest, I didn't really give the fried rice a good taste because I was way too full from the first 3 items. But I heard the leftovers were good!
Wait was about 1.5 hours on a Sunday evening.
A. S.
On a new years eve I was blown away by the food of this place.. One of the best dishes Ive ever ate. Already dreaming about this restaurant and want to come back again soon!
S. T.
Delicious Asian cuisine and funky laid back ambiance. We had a great time at this restaurant. Delicious food, yummy cocktails, extensive wine list, friendly and efficient customer service. This restaurant is a feast for the senses. There is so much to enjoy not only the food and drinks but the eclectic funky way they have decorated this establishment. Impressive.

Not a cheap place but you are guaranteed to eat well here. I always go for the duck, crispy eggplant and mapo tofu. Last time, eggplant was a bit too greasy but usually it’s really good. In any case, this is a fancy restaurant that relies on serving top quality food, which it delivers on. Cocktails are also excellent, they have a decent wine list and the service is always friendly. Restaurant is a little noisy and always crowded but the food makes up for all this.
M. B.
Amazing every time! can not fault the service, food, atmosphere and price! Fantastic wine selection here!
F. T.
Great Dumplings and overall good menu. The sea-food(especially crab) charged by weight can be a bit of a shocker when you get your bill at then end of the night. HUGE HINT: while you are waiting for a table there is an awesome speak-easy in the basement.
D.
The Food was really good, however, the waiting service lacked. we ordered a bottle of wine, sadly we had to practically serve the wine ourselves when our glasses ran empty we waited 5/10 mins for a refill when no service I refilled the wine then the waiter came dashing in to suddenly assist, no specific waiter/waitress various ones came at random intervals, had to eyeball a few waiters/waitresses to get attention when we required assistance with either dessert order or bill enquiry.
As mentioned previously the food was cooked with such taste, flavour and creativity hats off to the chefs - seems front of house staff on this night lacked the attentive, customer service skills possibly as they were run off their feet and not enough staff to assist the larger tables requiring larger order/ requests.
Returned since and again food superb and service getting better too.
B. M.
Fantastic dining experience. The staff were delightful when we went for our wedding anniversary, and they went above and beyond to get us a booking. Large wine menu and a good selection of beers. The food is incredible.
As expected, you do pay for it in the bill so not an everyday restaurant but definitely worthwhile on occasions.
J. B.
Wow! Amazing dim sum at lunch. Highly recommend you make your way here when visiting Sydney.
C. C.
Oh my word... This place is a MUST for any time I am in Sydney. I look forward to any trip that brings me to my company's Sydney office for the absolute love of eating at Mr. Wong's. I order the vegetarian dumplings, the veggie fried rice, and the indescribably good eggplant dish every time, because I don't think anything could possibly be as good on this Earth as that combo of things on my palate. It's the first place I go to for dinner when I'm there, and I always try to go on the last night I'm there as well, and then munch on the leftovers which are a whole different kind of good eaten cold in my hotel room while packing up to go.
Mr Wong's, please don't ever change!!!
M. S.
Great service, beautiful place and the food amazing!!!

Had an amazing time here for my mums 60th birthday. Devie took such good care of us and ensured that we had a great night. Food was incredible as always.

A grade, good food, service and ambience
