Comments of Old Town Hong Kong Cuisine
A. C.
This place has a wide variety of dishes which are nice. However the duck in the Peking duck bar was cold and the crispy roast pork crackle was not crispy bit chewy, as it was microwaved and not fresh. The dim sim and crab soup was delicious! They also have card surcharge and interesting dine in conditions such as minimum spend $35 per person for dinning in.
S. F.
Friendly staff and lovely deco. Most dishes are great but didn’t feel the prawn dumplings as appealing. $30 minimum spend
H.
Incredible food, and wonderful atmosphere! Our entrees didn’t turn up until we finished almost all our food, but we understood bc they were quite busy. Highly recommend overall! Ordered xiao long bao, crispy pork bao, Mongolian beef, and mapo tofu.
A. H.
Came here for a work Christmas lunch. Food was quite nice. The speed at which the food was coming out was a bit slower than what I expected, but I guess it was because they cook the food fresh it can take some time to cater for five or so tables. Would eat here again as the overall experience was positive.
B. G.
Went there for lunch and it was relatively empty. Service was super fast. We ordered Peking duck and some noodles along with the mango pomelo. Overall the food was really good. The menu had a lot of variety so will definitely want to come back to try something else.
S. C.
Best HK eatery in Sydney. Service is average but tastes are not bad! One good thing about them is they open until 2am daily!
N.
Small portions for the prices they have! Would recommend 2 or 3 sides and 1 main, as the mains (noodles and rice) are well portioned. Great ambiance for a group and open till late, service is fast and open till late (3 am).
E. N.
Average service, quality food and higher price.
Waitress and waiters are helpful however I’m a bit of annoyed when they take away your plates without asking. I am almost finishing my meal and seem reasonable to take away but in fact I haven’t finish every single pieces of food and the waiter just grab and go without even saying a single word.
Food is really delicious however it seem to be a bit pricy. The duo chicken and pork cost around $29 and portion consider small. We pay around $51 for these two plates of food.
Y. L.
The food is good, but they served food slowly. My friend and I ordered a stir-fried vegetables. It took 30minutes. They forgot to take orders, and after we noticed them. They served. Luckily, their staff were friendly.
S. W.
Love this place! If you feel like yumcha at night, this is the place to go to! They open till 1am and till 3am on Friday and Saturday nights. You have all your yumcha favorites here such as dumplings, chicken feet, sticky rice, mango pancake etc.
They have very traditional Hong Kong dishes and your classic Peking Duck, roast duck/ pork/ too.
J. S.
Food waa delicious, service was alright, felt as if I was visited HK. Those harsh and rush when my meals were served by a gentlemen.
Anyway, will be back for delish food
T. y.
Good services and great quality good. Will come back again !

This place is authentic Hong Kong style casual dining. We were there for lunch. They sell beers and wines, so it's good for dinner too.
We ordered Green Onion Pancake, crispy and it's the way I like it! The second dish, Stir-fried reddish pancake with XO sauce. XO sauce is spicy if you're not a fan of chilli. This should be avoided.
The third dish, premium soy sauce stir fried egg noodles. This is very good. They also have seafood dishes. Their congee is also a must-try dish. Overall table services are great. Just a bit disappointed about the herbal tea which they claimed made in-house. But it tasteless and just like coming out of the can that you can buy from the groceries store.
h. S.
Wide variety of dishes, very busy restaurant but with quick service. We order way too much food but it was all very delicious. Did have some issues with seating arranged which was resolved by some of our friends sitting on a separate table. Overall I would recommend it but if you are going in a large group make sure they understand that you require a large table.
M. D.
Have been here a few times over the past few years and have always had a great experience. Food is amazing and service is normally pretty attentive and fast.
m. b. (.
Good food good for groups. We had fun I think the best thing was the lazy Susan table it allowed easy party sharing hope to go again some time... oh and try the peanut seasame treats behind the glass at the cook area soo yummy
J. F.
If you are reading this review please let me suggest you go in and get the orange beef, fried salt and pepper pork and the duck bao.
Just those things in any order.
The mushroom and bean curd was also delicious.
There's other good food, but the first three are awesome.
S. Y. Y.
Food was great! Had Peking duck which was amazing! The service/staff was really good too.
The location isn't hard to find and it's close to darling habour if you are thinking of going for a walk around the habour afterwards.
They don't have eftpos here so make sure you have cash on hand! It can get quite pricy so have that in mind.
M. Y.
"accessible authentic" Chinese food - ie nothing to crazy for the conservative eaters but enough there to push and try new more delicious examples of Chinese food - noodles and dumplings are fantastic, Peking duck is delicious and the desserts are great Hong Kong staple - fried ice creams and mango pancakes are the bomb :)
D. M.
Similar to other reviews, this place is really hit and miss. I work nearby so come for lunch often and have to say that the service and food quality tends to be better during the day. Went tonight and my wonton soup had old lettuce in it instead of the typical Chinese broccoli or bok Choi. They've finally reduce their card minimum spend and the table tops could use a good wipe down.
B. L.
The barbecue pork and duck we're the standouts. The meat was served with a wasabi sauce and plum sauce, both complimented the dish well. Open until late, a great spot to head to when everything is closed and you need some food
B. B.
The food was alright. Service was kind of slow and the waiter sometimes hat trouble to understand us.
The food came in an unreasonable order. My sister took fried rice which came when everyone else was done eating. Also the food tastes like it was a lot of artivicals to it.
There are better places to eat.
M. C.
Good food at reasonable prices. The restaurant itself is nice and clean - modern with an old style decor. Service could be a little better, then again it is China Town.
T. D.
Tasty and spicy food 🐮😋I need those buns in my life😂
S. S.
Very very, I mean extremely good Hong Kong food here. But very crazily busy. Coming here at meal time will have to wait. If you like don’t mind a bit of duck fat, the crispy duck bun is HEAVEN!!! Don’t believe me? Just have a look around, you’ll notice most table will have at least one. I had mine, and ordered a take away the day after coz the line was just too crazy.

A yummy dinner, quickly served. Tasty. I didn’t try an extensive menu, being on my own tonight but received excellent service. Recommended. I need to come back and try some more.

Was very happy with the service. Enjoyed a fantastic peking duck and fried rice. Also big perk is that it's open til very late at night.

Busy restaurant but surprisingly good service regardless. We were served quickly and the wait for the food wasn't long either. Tried the xiao long bao and wonton soups, really meaty and great flavour. The rose tea was nice and not too strong or dry. I like the industrial theme and the place has a good vibe too.
h. A.
I felt like I am in China. Very friendly staff. Great food. Perfict chilli oil. must try desserts and chicken curry. the prawn dumpling is delicious. The decoration is wondefull. avargee prices.

Quick seating, even when it was quite crowded, ordering was a little tough, as I was required to point to dishes, instead of just saying their name, however the food came out quickly and was tasty. The entree did come out before mains, and the mocktail was quite plain, but overall a good experience.
N. F.
Bustling place, with great food. Staff are super busy looking after the many patrons - tables turn over which says something about the place. The crispy fried chicken was super tender. Meal sizes are very generous. Decent wine menu. Definitely come back again
C. S.
Food there is really great, as well as those waitress who offer warm greetings. But we met a waiter that is not good enough.
P. P.
Food was excellent, had the orange beef which was very tasty, wine beef which was good too. Bao was well made, tap beer ice cold. Service was friendly but very disorganised, we found our own menus and had to wave down someone to take the order. Would definitely go back for that orange beef 😋
B. B.
Always great food and service, one of my favourite places to eat in Sydney
S. C.
Some of the best Chinese I've had in Sydney! Prompt service, friendly staff, great food and open late. Highly recommended checking this place out if you're in the area!
K. S.
Hot and sour soup is great, as are the dumplings and buns. Mains were okay, but I'd stick to the yum cha/ dim sum menu.
B. N.
Covid Update: Ordered home delivery and the food arrived on time, just as at the restaurant. Tasty, great portions, great fresh quality. Really love this place!
Always delicious. Great dumplings, delicious BBQ meats and excellent fast service. Kids love the food and was surprised by the incredibly tasty and light fried ice cream dessert.... flash back to childhood without the bad grease soaked batter i remembered... huge hit with the whole family!
J. M.
Absolutely delicious Vegan food to compliment their extensive menu. Great service and really friendly helpful staff. Our new favourite spot in Chinatown.
A. G.
Open till late night this restaurant makes you feel like you're sitting in a local street of Hong Kong. A wide range of food selection from authentic Hong Kong cuisine to some Korean dishes too. All in all good food and good experience.
M. R.
Food is very good but the staff is not very friendly
p. b.
Old town has to be my go to late night spot for bbq pork and late night noodles, their duck is succulent and has a well balanced flavor profile always a refreshing. The dumplings and baos are great for sharing with friends or if you need that little bit extra after your meals are perfect for filling the gap... If your in the city late night this is the place.
C. H.
Huge selection of very taste dishes. Pretty quick service as well. Would definitely go back for more!
J. Y.
Food is quite expensive here but they are definitely one of the better options during late night on Fridays and Weekends when everything else is closed. Worth trying once in a while for some chinese food with an atmosphere.
A. G. (.
Good friendly service even though I was only picking up my takeaway order. I had the salty fish/chicken fried rice, was very tasty but a bit pricy. I’m sure a lot of the other food is nice. Will definitely go back and try.
K. A.
Their bbq pork and noodles is probably the best in the business and deliciously fresh. Really helpful being open til 2-3am most days for shift workers.
Their delivery fee is fairly high - $15, and don't take great instructions on where to delivery, but the food makes up for the fact.
S. C. S.
Very good food and got bonus of Lion Dance on Chinese New Year's eve
P. W.
Delicious hk food
Roast duck is a top menu that you should try
The restaurant is decorated in chinese style
C. M.
Great place to go for late night dumplings
J. K.
Always good and reliable and with BBQ King now closed China Town needs to foster its remaining BBQ shops. Good selection of fresh and well cooked BBQ and dumpling dishes along with usual menu items. Very good and well priced wine list - some excellent wines at very reasonable prices (by comparison to bottle shop prices).

We came all the way from Brisbane to try this beautiful cuisine. Food was absolutely delicious. Friendly service and great value for money. We were treated as a guest not just another customer. Went there in December and have been meaning to write a review. Atmosphere is great. I highly recommend the #3134 Fried Rice topped with two sauce(tomato sauce with chicken and cream sauce with prawns. $24.80 and the #2101 prawn dumplings mmmmmm...mmm! Looking forward to returning!
J. L.
Old Town has a very cozy ambience. Very friendly and nice staff. Had roasted duck, stir fry noodle with beef and Xiao long bao. The roasted duck and stir fry noodle were delicious. We can taste the "wok heat" from the noodle. The Xiao long bao was okay due to the thick skin, but the filling was so good which compensate it. The mango and pamelo dessert is a must try. Extra credit to the mature waiter, we change our mind on one dessert just after he enter the order to the system and he happily amended our order with a SMILE (was very busy at that time). Honestly, we were expected and prepared for a deep stare from him at least.
They open till late night too.
R. M.
I loved the food they served us on new years evening. We asked dumplings, fried squids, king prawns and some vegetables. Everything was fresh, tasty and the place had a good environment. The lady that served us was very kind. I don't know how this place only have 3.7 stars. It should have at least 4.3... i definitely recommend it! :)
J. B.
Solid Chinese food - good place for after work dinner and dessert.
T.
So I was super excited to try my first congee in sydney and ordered the chicken fillet but it’s a bit bare, I expected more seasonings and things to be sprinkled in it:
S. T. S.
Ok taste, wide variety. Service is not the best. No hot water was given when we asked. Had to order tea.and wait 5 min for tea. No one seated us down at a table. We waited few min outside and there were tables ready to go.
D. G.
The food was amazing, and the staff were lovely. Read through the reviews beforehand and there were many that commented about the lack of card payment facilities, as soon as we walked in the staff told us that they can only accept cash payments, then reminded us before we ordered, so I don't know how anyone could complain that they didn't know. 10/10 recommend the Mongolian beef it was so good 🤤
C. M.
Delicious dumplings - always consistent and good quality - and yummy noodle dishes.
E. D.
Bought fried rice and the 2 choice bbq for takeaway dinner. Was really good, came out quickly and the server was nice. Bit expensive I’ll admit in terms of rice being nearly $17. I liked that there was photos for the meals as some restaurants dont have that and you end up with something you didnt expect. Ive been to places before where you ask if the fried rice has the normal pork/spam and prawns but language barriers stop you from getting a clear answer and then not what you wanted so that was helpful in making my choice. The 2 choice bbq is reasonable for $16. 4 stars only as I think fried rice should never be more than $12 for a large unless youre getting a special fried rice with extra meats. Would get food from here again :)
D. T.
Very nice comfort chinese food
M. H.
The food was WOW!! Ordered the Char Si Yiu, Roast Duck and Pork with Shallot Dumplings. Was so delicious! Food was a bit expensive but then again it's the city. We didn't like the pine nuts that came with the meat. And i think we were given the wrong dumplings.. BUT either way everything else was beautiful. We demolished our food. Will definitely be visiting again.
V.
Everyone loved the food, it was tasty and delicious.
C. C.
Best food I had in Sydney. It was so yummy. Very clean restaurant. Great service.
B. B.
This place is amazing, just left here 3.30am arrived at 2.30am Sunday morning, wow words can't explain..honestly can't explain, open late amazing food, quick and on point. Bbq pork dumplings, noodles and soups were all amazing.
D. G.
Definitely one of the better restaurants in the Chinatown area. Had a lovely meal here - the menu was almost too extensive but the quality of ingredients was good and the food was very flavoursome. Great, bustling atmosphere, nice decor and friendly staff. My only criticism would be that the dishes were served a little erratically. My friend had almost finished his meal by the time mine was served whilst my rice had been turning cold on the table.
G. Ł.
Cantonese comfort food, but about 25% overpriced. A dish of sautéed morning glory was $20.
R. M.
I love this place- excellent Cantonese-store food, and although not necessarily cheap it is worth the money your pay. The food is consistently good quality and, although sometimes you do end up waiting a bit longer for different parts of your meal, it is fresh and well cooked. Furthermore the ambience of the restaurant is really enjoyable- a kind of old school "Cantonese" style without being kitschy. Have been going here for years and intend to go for many more to come!
D. d. M.
Excellent! The food here is superb, they open quite late (we ordered at 11 pm and the place was still busy and taking walk ins still). The lady at th door who seats guests was friendly and clearly happy towards the patrons and although not a cheap dinner, it is good value as the flavours are excellent and the servings are very good (no charge if you take home the leftovers).
Beer is pub price (rare for restaurants)
Enjoy.
A. J.
Beautiful food and customer service was fantastic..
H. E.
Got sat at a tiny table so was a bit hard to manage all the plates on the table. Food came out super quick and pork was a bit cold. Had to ask for chopsticks. Other than that food was really good! Green beans with pork mince is amazing. Nice decor and good atmosphere.
R. M.
Simply sensational, steamed dumplings were fresh and tasty, fried rice was gorgeous, service was attentive and speedy. They even had an Aussie pale ale from bowral which is very exciting for me because it’s hard to get a good beer at a restaurant. It’s all reasonably priced too. 10/10 would go again.
B. L.
I love this place. Booked for dinner tonight for my birthday and the food as always was super delicious. Service was excellent and food came out relatively quickly for a Saturday night. Thanks for making my night a good one! ❤
M. H.
I absolutely love this place, have come here on late nights, best thing is to impulse order and try everything.
There's an overseas atmosphere inside, really nice ambiance and service is very good.
All in all, a lovely experience.
Its open real late which is a experience in itself. Not many joints like this open till 3am.
C. S.
Great late night eat destination, especially if you're craving yum cha! They have all sorts of dishes as well as great mango pancakes but the service can fluctuate finding as they are open till 2am the later it is, the staff tend to slack in service. Overall amazing food and friendly service, will definitely be back.
S. Z.
Popped in on a whim last week and very glad I did - think I have discovered a new spot to grab quick and tasty dumplings when the mood hits! A little more glamorous than a take-away but not as formal as a restaurant, this place had fast service, on-the-ball staff and a really good array of options to choose from. All our food was consistently really good - not too greasy, not too overboiled - and arrived out fast. Great for a quick bite and were very helpful with our toddler too. It is a little crowded inside though, so be prepared to fold and leave your pram at the entrance if you have one.
R. D.
5 stars! Friendly and helpful staff. Tasty, fresh food!
Tom Yum soup - Such depth of flavour, fresh ingredients and massive prawns.
The Peking duck pancakes - As good as the ones I had in China!
Stir-fried chilli prawns - Again, massive depth of flavour. You can taste the many spices used.
Mango pancakes - Honestly the best thing I’ve ever eaten.
Z. “. F.
Popular for budget chinese, good quick dinner option.
E. K.
It is one of the good places to have some roasted duck. But not the best I have tried.
Last time the dumpling were burned and the waiter offered to change it for us. So if you have a problem with the food, they do offer to change it for you which is very nice.
S. T.
So glad that they have reopened (nights only now). Dumplings, duck pancakes & stews all wonderful! Highly recommend & BYO.
s. f.
Very nice food highly recommended this place
S. R.
Excellent food and very friendly service.
M. D. U.
24hr Yum Cha style restaurant a bit pricey for a casual dining experience, food was good excepting the chicken feet which were not as fresh and tasty as most other restaurants. A little dimly lit, and in need of a thorough scrub and clean and repainting. Better options further down Dixon St
R. N.
Me and my friends went to this place pretty late last night and it was still busy which was a good indexation that the food was good and it was! The menu is huge and there's heaps to choose from but unfortunately if you going to order you'll have to wait 20min for someone to come and take your order.. the stuff that was working there was just walking pass and not paying attention to anything.. they were like robots.. We had to call out really loudly when we wanted to order the desert. Oh well it was a fun night anyway.
D. L.
Delicious dumpings, and other dishes. They're open later than other nearby restaurants as well.
L. S.
good👍

Best food ever. I would say the food there is better than Vancouver, Seattle and even Hong Kong. The Curry Fish Balls, you must try, and the special taste reminds me the childhood street food. I went there every night while I was in Sydney to try different dishes from their menu since they have so much variety. I love all the dishes I ordered and the services are wonderful. There's always a smile :)
Positive Energy and I definitely would recommend it !!
From Seattle ^_^
S. L.
Best Chinese restaurant in Sydney. So much variety modern and traditional Chinese. Best salt and pepper squid Iv ever had and good selection of dumplings. Good vibe for a drink with friends too. Can't wait to go back.
A. N.
I rate 5* because of their service. They are really helpful and serve quickly.
However, the food taste quite average but the price is not too expensive
J.
2 storeys, decor is fashionable not shabby. This is a pretty new restaurant. 2 people tables can be a little cramp. Hong Kong cuisine. Service is pretty fast but u get rushed out of the door when they're busy
Food is not bad, however depending what you order, some dishes are small portions others massive. BBQ stuff is pretty pricey here
n. n.
We had a Sunday late lunch here, never been before and had the best dining experience ever in China Town. The noodle soup, dumplings and Peking duck pancakes were top notch, great quality, really tasty. Staff were super cool and friendly, the atmosphere relaxing and awesome decor, etc.
Really well priced too, will definitely be back.
L. S.
Seriously some of the best food on Dixon street, always super fresh, and the staff are great! Plus they are open late, so that helps!
D. K.
Love the decor. Definitely brought me back to Hong Kong. A great selection on the menu and food was good without being great. Service was a little hasty - dishes flew in left right and centre and "flew" was not an understatement. But hey, that's how it is in local cafes/restaurants in Hong Kong so points to them for keeping it nostalgic and real.
Y. Z.
Hokkien fried rice becomes Hokkien porridge
Unbelievable
Friendly suggestion pack it in split container
T. G.
Good value food and service in chinatown. Try the baked pumpkin and seafood which is served in a whole pumpkin 🎃. The dumplings and roast pork are highly recommended. The service was quick and friendly. A busy Cafe style atmosphere.
C. L.
Overall the food is pretty tasty with a decent variety of dishes and ok value if there's a group of you and ordering a number of shared dishes family-style (as it should be). The chilli and garlic stir-fried green beans are delicious, as are the deep-fried crispy pork chops, char siu and duck dishes. The mapo tofu was a little bland though, I expected more of a kick.
The service is inconsistent..never actually great, but ranging from ok to sometimes pretty bad (last time they forgot a drink, we mentioned it to them, they went to get it and never came back..and it wasn't even terribly busy).
I love that it's open late and in a central location so it's handy if there's a group of 4-10 people who are willing to share a variety of dishes after a few drinks in the evening.
K. Y.
A great place for having wonderful Hong Kong's food
D. F.
This restaurant has finally made Chinatown exciting again. You come here for the buns - either pork or duck - and you come back for the excellent price point. You get a lot of food, and good quality food at that, for a very reasonable sum. Bring your own bottle of wine and sample all the old Hong Kong cuisine favourites amongst the kitsch decor and haphazard service. It's definitely an experience.
F. “.
Decent food and reasonable prices, my boyfriend and I enjoy eating here. The only downside were the moody staff who barely speaks / shows expressions -something that brings the atmosphere down for not only us but also many people we know who go there. Staffs make a huge difference to the impression of the place and it would be nice if they would act a bit more cheerful, and classy to match the restaurant to create a nice vibe
P. C.
Good Cantonese food we did not have to wait long for our food after ordering. Quite cram space wise. Services were good after we managed to have a English conversant waitress. Peking duck was very good so was the beef fried with mushroom. Ma Poh Taufu was very satisfying. Prices at par with like restaurants.
M. S.
Great food and atmosphere. They have 2 levels and charge extra % for card payment. The minimum 12AUD pp is kind of annoying when you can get two dimsums with price lower than 12aud pp.
O. O.
Amazing food and great service.... 👌🏻
A. D.
Recommended for those seeking gluten free options in Chinatown. They have a separate gluten free menu plus gluten free soy sauce on hand. Lots of other places don't offer any gf options at all so i was grateful to find this place. I had the duck. Really tasty.
M. S.
Food was okay. Their Xiao Long Bao pastry was a little fluffy which gave it a different mouth feel to a dough with more rice flour. Service was a bit choppy, we had to ask for things a few times. Food came out in unusual order, main, entree, main. Perhaps there were new staff on that night? Overall not the best impression but I would still go back.
A. W.
Great Hong Kong cuisine, and prices are reasonable. Staff are fairly friendly, and the service is pretty good. We've always enjoyed our meals here, and the food quality is always consistently delicious.
T. W.
Having spent some time in Hong Kong I was curious to try Old Town just to see how the dishes here stuck up. While the service is much to be desired, the food is rather good. The hot and sour soup was one of the better ones I've had in Sydney and the sauteed green beans with pork mince was nice but I think I prefer the spicy version. The best dish was probably the Peking duck buns, while duck on a steamed white bun might be a new thing, it certainly tasted like they belong together.
L. U.
Authentic chinese restaurant with good vegetarian options.

We went to Old Town Hong Kong cuisine in Haymarket mid February at the start of the Lunar Festival for Chinese New Year.
It was absolutely packed understandably so with the time of year and festivities kicking off. We were lucky to only wait for 5 minutes while others seemed to be waiting longer.
We were asked if we wanted a share table as it would be quicker waiting time, so we (wife & I) agreed and went straight upstairs. We were given a small table, no sharing (Tip: You won't always have to get a shared table).
We felt the staff were quite rude, not much of a welcome, rushed in ordering with a "what you want order?" Caught us off guard.
We ordered Prawn Dumplings, Xiao Long Bao, Pork Buns and the standard serving of Crispy Suckling Pig.
1: Prawn Dumplings were really nice with big chunky prawns = Happy
2: Xiao Long Bao were hot, delivered at the end of service after we finished everything else and reminding them 3 times they hadn't arrived also after they checked if we received everything already. They were also very salty, so much that my wife couldn't eat hers = Poor to Average
3: Pork Buns were brilliant, not overly sweet like many other places, good amount of pork filling too = Happy Happy Chappy
4: Crispy Suckling Pig was not what we got as it came as a small mixed dish of suckling pig and roast duck. I've definitely had better suckling pig and the duck (that we didn't order) was very dry.
All in all it was a poor to average dining experience. I have eaten here before when it's not anywhere near as busy and have been quite happy with the food with the dumplings being awesome. I feel they have a lot to improve upon with their wait service.
With the mixup of our dish they did discount our meal without any concern and wanted to understand what the mixup was......hopefully so they know what went wrong and can fix it.
We will go back in future when it's not so busy. Give it a try also 👍

A good selection of dishes with a strong Cantonese flavour. Late night Yum Cha is always appreciated and their Peking duck buns are particularly excellent. The service was friendly and attentive and it's always good to have a late night option (2am close) in the city.

Ordered takeaway. Excellent food, prompt and polite delivery from the restaurant. Will be ordering again and highly recommend for authentic and delicious food.
T. Y.
The only supper place open in Chinatown these days food was great quite busy for a Wednesday night needed to wait about 20min for a table
A. L. (. i. a. F. F.
Good value and quaint decor make this a nice place to stop for a few dumplings or a bowl of hearty noodle soup. We went on a weekend and there was only a 5 minute wait, which is unheard of in the city. Go for the BBQ duck with egg noodle soup, great value and a quick bite if you need it!
A. K.
I visited this restaurant shortly after they opened. It was the ambience and decor choices that first drew me to the place. I've since brought friends, family and colleagues to eat at Old Town. It's well located and the food is consistently good. My favourite dishes include the sichuan chicken, curry beef brisket, salt and pepper squid and of course the peking duck bun. I just hope they can keep it up.
Y. P.
Amazing restaurant with many dishes and amazing dessert. It feft very homely and order are freshly made. I always bought extra signature bao even when I'm full because it's rare to find this type of taste around townhall.
P. L.
Went during the CNY period so the place was understandably busy. We were seated at the entrance and in all honesty they probably shouldn't have a table there as one, there is a slope that will tilt your table AND two, the legs of the table are uneven (they used an old folded magazine to keep balance.
As mentioned before, it was busy so the staff weren't very attentive as they were preoccupied so cant really comment on the service accurately perhaps BUT they did however forget two of our orders. They told us to wait 10-15 minutes for them and we did but the last one just never came so we cancelled it off.
The food quality is alright and the pricing is understandable but there are better Chinese restaurants to visit besides this one, especially when you're in Chinatown. I do however would not recommend the peking duck in bao dish as the ratio is totally off. The bun is nice but it overpowers what little duck they give you rendering it pointless.
J. A.
The atmosphere was really good, the restaurant has lovely decoration.
The food was an OK price, however was not the best Chinese food I have had.
The service was fast and efficient.
I would go back for sure.
C. C.
Huge menu. Haven't had a chance to try everything but so far the food is either authentic or just taste wonderful in its own way. Staff are usually busy as it gets crowded during dinner and late night supper time (opens till 2am). One of the only non-bar establishments open in town till late.
A. B.
Good big servings of food for reasonable price, food come fast, nice place to sit and eat, staff friendly and the suprise fruit platter at the end was the icing on the cake. Great
A. T.
Extremely nice people with a foood that beats them all. Greatt range of taste that can please almost all. Me and I family loved it.
R. H.
Amazing. Food was great. The menu was a book choosing was impossible. Service was very friendly and the atmosphere was really nice. Will travel back to eat here again.
A. K.
Another late night feed that I found in China Town late one night. Very cosy and chilled out atmosphere with attentive hosts that are always smiling and positive. I recommend the laksa and some form of dumpling as they make the dumplings fresh (you can even see them making it), the vegetable dumplings are the reason I travel to find this restaurant!
N. P.
Really enjoyed it - perfect for a casual meal. Menu is extensive and all the items we had were great. Roast pork bun definitely was the fav dish though. Reasonably priced and tasty.
A.
Stopped in here after we arrived from Brisbane for the Lunar New Year. Fantastic place to eat. My wife is Hong Kong born and bred so I've spent time over there, Old Town Hong Kong really captures what it is like dining out in HK. Was like being in Kowloon or Yeun Long again.
U. “.
overall the food was quite delicious, enjoyed the atmosphere and the service they provided during the night. the dishes came out in a fairly short time. i would highly recommend this place, especially their bbq duck and bbq pork buns
J. M.
Some poor reviews on here which was the opposite of our experience. Not expecting a lot, the service was good and the food delivered to our table in a reasonable time. The food was hot and very delicious. Well done Old Town.
S. D.
Food is delicious, and is open late!
R. M.
Love the service and the people there! Dishes are cheap but good quality for Chinese food, usually are quick to be made, nice atmosphere and well located right in Chinatown and close enough to town hall as well.
M. N.
Their barbecue meats with rice was pretty good, although not as good as what you’d get in Hong Kong. Barbecue chicken, duck, and char siu was decent, but the pork belly didn’t have a crispy skin and the layer of fat was too thick. Soup dumplings (xiao long bao) and pan fried pork buns were good. We also love getting iced Yuenyeung (coffee x hk milk tea drink), although it’s not on the menu.
K. L.
Super Yum spicy chill whole fish! Love it!
A. W. (.
This is a fairly new eatery in Sydney. The food is Hong Kong style. Had the Peking duck bao which was great albeit pricey. The rice bowl with roast duck and pork was pretty tasty. Just watch out for the bones.
K. D.
Been here a few times. Service is great one day and not so friendly the next. We had one of the waiters pretty much drop/throw a bowl of hot soup on our table (he must've had a bad day?) We come back for the baos mainly.
K. “. Y.
Very expensive for average quality food. You're paying more for ambiance than anything. There are many alternatives within a few KMs, like Superbowl, that get a 5. Service is also not all that responsive
L. P.
Delicious food, service was good considering the restaurant was extremely busy! Prices are standard for the cuisine/area! Will definitely be back
T. P.
This place would have to be my favourite restaurant for 2013 as everything that matters to me in an eatery is more or less ticked off here. The food, the decor, the service and the atmosphere and well thought out and work well together. The food seems to be a mash up of old and new Hong Kong cuisine. For example, the new 'taco' style pork and duck bao were a definite hit whereas the wasabi mayo sauce served with the roast pork was a little bit more strange. The dumpling and noodle dishes here are executed well too, nothing out of this world but good none the less. Dessert is a small range of dim sum favourites like mango pancakes and sago pudding as well as more exotic things like durian pancakes. The really love their durian and you can also get durian milkshakes here. There are only two points that are a minus for me here; the fact that the two person tables a too small when you are ordering a selection of sharing dishes and the expensive price of the drinks menu. Other that, Old Town is a real crowd pleaser and great for out of towners. It is also wheelchair friendly, with a lift going to the 2nd floor of the restaurant.
J. H.
This place opens pretty late so it’s great for s late night feed! Overall food was fantastic and tasty. Would come back again!
F. W.
Been there once as a friend introduced this to me. Service was really nice, and good dessert. The food I think is OK, nothing special. Maybe I should go back for a few times to taste more.
w. x.
Old Town is the latest resturant to hit haymarket and is one of the best experience I had at a chinese resturant. The decor is fashionable, love the lighting and the vintage chinese homeware. We were pleased that there is yum cha favourites you can order anytime of the day, and the peking duck bun was delicious. The presentation of the dishes that we ordered were great, and the taste is spot on. Although mainly traditional cantonese, old town can surprise you with some suzhuan styled dishes which i loved as well !
Make sure to book in advance as the lines could get very long.
V. D.
I only recommend this place if all other restaurants have closed for the night since this place opens til very late. They are quite frugal here when it comes to meat portions. I only eat here if i really need to and cannot find and restaurants that are open. If anybody does end up eating here, be prepared to spend more than an normal Chinese restaurant.
S. K.
Love these guys... I eat here way too often. The menu has so much in there I could eat here every day for a month and never have the same thing twice. They are open till 2am which has warmed many late nights for me.
S. M.
Good fresh food, friendly quick service. Suitable for kids who can sit at the table. A good pick if trying to find a restaurant for the family
J. S.
Quite a popular Chinese restaurant on Dixon St. Old Town has a massive menu but not everything is good. They really need to filter out the good from the bad and shorten their menu so people can enjoy every dish. The buns here arent as good as Belly Bao.
K. L. C.
Atmosphere is nice and food is ok. The little soup dumpling were average. The bbq meat was of good quality. The service was less than average.
E. A.
Good vegetarian options for Chinese food. The flavors were slightly bland, but I have never seen so many veggie options and was very pleased. The staff were also very friendly.
R. P.
Excellent selection. The name says it all. Been back several times. A Chinatown favourite. Highly recommended!
P. f.
Delicious Cantonese cuisine. Service can be hit and missed but cannot denied the food is great here. Huge menu with 2 levels Open late ip 2 am everyday
A. S.
Really friendly staff, great atmosphere and BYO! I wasn't a fan of this cuisine however I felt the quality was there and the price/portion sizes were very reasonable.
K. B.
Really nice good and quick service. The only bad thing was that each dish comes separately so had to wait for all food to arrive when the other ones was getting cold
B. T.
Great decor, good food and also quite cheap too.
I come here primarily for the egg and pork congee(皮蛋瘦肉粥) and Youtiao (油條) if by myself (which is just a little over $10), but have also tried the peking duck which is great for a group of 4.
S. H.
Hardly able to find an authentic Hong Kong style cafe in Sydney and Old Town HK just happen to be one of them. The fake shark fin is nice but the dessert is the biggest drawcard. Service is good for a HK cafe standard
D. F.
Nice decor. Good atmosphere. Decent food at modest prices. Was a little hard to get the staffs attention though. Took a while to get tea out.
R. C.
Fantastic food, excellent attentive service, and despite the whole place being flat out it has a great vibe.
The manager, in particular, was very pleasant.
Well worth a visit.
P. T.
We used to look forward to the duck pancakes and have been many times. Our recent visit was very disappointing as there was a noticeable drop in quality. Hopefully just a bad day and not the start of a decline.
J. G.
Food was absolutely delicious, service didn’t bother me. Price was high but it seems quite normal in the middle of the city.
J. S.
Congee is very nice but cooked with MSG. Which i don't like. Stir fried broccoli is very small portion. The steamed pork ribs is ok.
P. E.
Really great menu and food. The service was good too. Been here on different days and it can get busy but the wait usually isn't too bad.
N. H.
Bring me all the dumplings! Old Town pan fried are amazing!
P. C.
Great food, reasonable price. Staff could be a little friendlier but I guess that adds to the authenticity. Been lots and will continue.
J. C.
There's quite a variety of dishes to try here, and not the usual ones you'll find at other restaurants in Chinatown, without having to take a trip to HK either. The dessert menu brings back memories of travels to Asia, such as mango sago with pomelo.
E. B.
Nice food, waited 30 minutes due to the fact they forgot my dish only out of everyone else. Anyway nice and relaxing venue . Good value.
A. Y.
Food is delicious and prices are relatively reasonable, but not economical.
t. d. f.
One of the newer additions to Dixon Street, serves authentic and delicious Chinese dishes. Be sure to try the super soft and fluffy peking duck buns and curry soft shell crab congee!
D. M.
Old town is my favourite hong kong style restaurant (yum cha excluded) in sydney cbd. Get some bbq pork soy sauce noodles and congee yum!
J. M.
A favourite spot in Chinatown, hand rolled noodles and beef tendon noodles are a highlight. Good sized portions are cooked to order served up with classic HK indifference.
N. C.
New favourite in Chinatown! Such friendly family-run service, and great food from a huge menu. Nicer than other large Chinese restaurants nearby.
g. t.
Positives
Foods not bad, but nothing special
Reasonable prices
Open late
Negatives
Service is pretty poor (order has been forgotten on two different occasions)
charge extra for cards/dont accept card late, making you go to an atm
F. K.
Good hk style food. Expensive for what it is, especially considering this is Chinatown, but I guess you pay for the decor and such. Definitely get the wonton noodles and the expensive but amazing duck buns
S. D.
Vintage feel. Great selection of food. Reasonably priced. Good portion size and quality. Try the spicy salt calamari.
A. R.
Pretty nice indeed. Good quality food, tasty, quickly prepared, nice ambiance and attentive service. Recommended for a dinner inside.
H. M.
Nice food
A. B.
Great food and quick service. The birdsnest dumplings are awesome. The pork or duck buns are delicious too.
S. L.
Tried the pork mine with glass noodles and Shanghai dumplings - both were above average. The portions are on the smaller scale and a little pricey.
A. T.
Really nice late evening HK chinese food - better with a few drinks!
M. C.
Great food and service, been here twice now and it is simply great fresh food and good atmosphere and well priced. Duck buns are just great as is the birds nest...
C. C.
They open very late. We can find Hong kong style desserts and supper at 1am. Also, the food is good.
J. M.
Came with my two young kids n wife. Excellent and very friendly service and yum food. Enjoyed the experience.
S. B.
Food is great. Staff are grumpy and have too much attitude.
T. Q. N.
Very nice Cantonese food. Love the congee, super silky. I will definitely come back. (Better than Super Bowl FYI)
T. P.
Food is ok but overpriced with its portion. Some staffs are friendly, but some are not courteous at all.
M. W.
Food was amazing! Staff were great and the atmosphere made me feel like I was in Hong Kong 😀
N. W.
Food was average and cusromer service was good. Overall reasonably priced with a good range of entrées, mains and desserts.
D. O.
A thoroughly enjoyable meal with the family. The roast meats were particularly good especially the pork.
D. K.
BYO Chinese..
Food was above average.
Service was friendly.
Floors going up and down the stairs was a touch slippery
T. M.
Love coming here, I always recommend it to friends. I’ve been many times and it’s consistently great service and delicious food.
C. B.
Really nice food. The roast duck was amazing, appetizers were all tasty, and the Chicken cashew main was spot on.
N. D.
Best Cantonese food in NSW. Highly recommend
D. M.
My wife and I go here every now and then. It's not the best restaurant in Sydney, but they do good food.
G. D. C.
great food. very long (almost too much) menu. been twice in a week!
g.
Great variety of dishes with a fair few choices away from main Westernised fair. Tasty!
C.
All I wanted was dessert but they got to charge 12 dollar per head, also cash only which is also annoying
L. M.
Average. Menu illustrated which helped. Dumplings more veg than meat filled
D. F.
Thoroughly enjoyed our meal, will definitely be returning to try more from the huge menu
J. R.
Beautiful food and friendly service. Definitely a must visit. Decor is cool and hip. Thanks for the good feed!
C. F.
Great food and efficient service... Been back a few times just to make sure it wasn't a fluke experience... So far so good....
S. B.
Decent selection of good quality Chinese food, albeit a tad on the pricier end compared to other restaurants in Chinatown
A. N.
Great food at a great price! Bonus points for having pu-erh tea on the menu.
W. C.
Tried their seafood fried rice. It is good if u are out late and have not much choices to take but had better ones elsewhere at better prices.
O. M.
Great food, but if the hand dryers in both mens and ladies toilets aren't working, how are the staff drying their hands after they have a wee?
C. X.
I like this place! The duck buns are particularly exquisite but overall, cheapish, cheerful and faithful to the hong kong diner scene.
C. S.
Had such an amazing meal here with my Chinese friend loved the service and the food
E. A.
Very large servings, tastes awesome. Best Chinese food I've had in years.
A. T. S.
Open late. Pretty reasonable Chinese food. Nice layout. Worth a try.
R. b.
Worth visiting for a few BBQ buns if nothing else. Food is a step above most in the area, and well priced considering that
T. L.
Insanely good food, really the same tastes as in Hong Kong, or even better!
R. P.
Awesome Hong Kong food open late at night. Great service and location as well.
S.
Food is still nice and okay but not really authentic HK food. Price is expensive for what it is
p. S.
The thing I didn't like was I asked for a natural juice, the waitress told me it was natural and when I tried it, the juice had natural fruit AND artificial juice too.
L. B.
Go to place for a feed after a late night of drinks. Helpful staff as well and owner/manager always says bye I noticed
J. L.
Yummy! Been a regular here but sometimes with a long queue! U need to Try their duck bun!
S. H.
You HAVE to try the honey chicken (it’s seriously amazing) and the fried rice is awesome too.
g. g.

J. J.
Amazing food, a little in the pricey side, overall a pleasant experience.
B.
Delicious food. Very comfortable to dine. Good for young people and family
R. H.
A good place to get some Hong Kong style dishes in the city. Not that many places in the city that does it, so it is quite nice to be able to get some from here.
J. P.
Great Lunch at Old Town today. Great Service & Great Food. Top Place👍
Z. J.
Food was ok, but there was an extra fee for credit card without any notice, and the services was very poor.
V. D. C.
Really good Chinese restaurant! Clean, friendly staff, good food and cheap!!! I really like it

Delicious food and very prompt service. Great variety and cool atmosphere.
