House of Palms hosted a flower crown workshop at the Rose of Australia for a hen's party of 14 people and it was fabulous. The staff were accommodating, the atmosphere was great and the decor was cool. The function was upstairs at the front of the venue and it was the perfect space. Would highly recommend this venue for a function

Good COVID compliance. Friendly staff. Nice outside area and good amount of space inside for different tastes in hangouts. Drinks Happy hour 4-6pm which is such good value for bottles of piper at half price! Food Ordered cheese platter with 3 cheeses, salami, prosciutto and extra bread. Platter could have come with some condiments as it was a bit dry on the bread just cheese and meat. Onion rings and fries were good size servings and not too greasy. Lots of clean up staff so tables are never overloaded with empties. Good after work drinks spot for groups.

Howard’s Cantina and Cocktail Bar. Located above the Rose of Australia. Historically this iconic venue in Erskenville, having been there almost as long as the town itself – 1874! Since then it has been a popular venue amongst Sydneysiders to visit for a drink or bite to eat. It has undergone a number of renovations including the newest venture – Howard’s Cantina and Cocktail Bar. The Cantina itself is in keeping with the eclectic style of the area. The new cocktail drink menu has launched and the Cantina opens from Thursday May 11. We were lucky enough to attend the media launch and heard a wonderful speech from Scott Leach, whose father bought the property 21 years ago. Howard’s Cantina is named after Scott’s father. They are proud to have incorporated different aspects of his father’s interests in the property: flowers and greens (he was a greenkeeper), bench tables as he enjoyed shared dining. We tried some of the handcrafted cocktails, a ‘Paloma’, ‘espresso martini’ and a smoked negroni with infused Grand Marnier hicktory chips, as well as a ‘whisky sour’ that was topped with Barossa shiraz. The bar is sophisticated and staffed by some talented cocktail makers. The menu, designed by Chef Chris Bell who has put together a sharing menu with a fine array of small plates, larger options as well as some beautiful desserts. We began by trying some key components of their antipasto plate; charcutterie meats, cheeses, red peppers, dips and breads. Huge servings and high quality ingredients. From the tapas menu, there was seaweed crisp with lightly dressed cucumber, raw tuna sitting atop house water crackers with smoked shallot and preserved lemons, we tried a beautiful trout pastrami with horseradish and crème fraiche, bresola with smoked tomato petal and orange. One of our favourite foods of the night was the appleboy smoked lamb ribs with fresh oregano, lemon and chilli, such a beautiful flavor and the meat was cooked perfectly. Another great little snack was the mini pork and veal sausage rolls, with a rhubarb puree and aioli. The Howard’s lobster roll was creamy and topped with caviar. Some of the larger options include whole whey braised lamb shoulder, flank steak and cooked salmon The orange cake and rocky road were outstanding desserts. With so many great food options to try, I would strongly suggest a couple of visit! We’ll certainly be going back! The atmosphere is fun, comfortable and music playing by a DJ to make for a great ambience.

Tasty burgers, ribs and beer. Their on tap selection has a few of the top 100 beer lostings for 2016. Prices are reasonable and a nice atmosphere. Service time was a little slow on delivery but otherwise good as the staff are friendly. Private bookings for tables is avaliable.

The Chicken Schnitzel is succulent drizzled with a delicious mushroom sauce and partnered with a small side of salad and chips. The tacos are packed full of juicy chicken and is definitely worth trying with the jalapenos if you want the extra spicy kick. You can also choose a lettuce-based wrap instead of tortilla if you prefer a lighter and less-carb meal. The place is quite roomy and has a small outdoor seating option in the middle, also a balcony where you can enjoy a tasty meal while gushing over the beautiful dogs that walk by. Overall, a great place with great service that you need to check out ☺

This is a great local pub, very nicely renovated recently and very popular with both locals and people from out of the suburb. From the staff at the door into the Rose, upstairs in the bar, to our fabulous waitress and Alessandro looking after us so well, we couldn't have asked for more. Perfect aspect for winter sun coffee or lunch. Very freidbyl and not crowded suieng the week days for lunch. They cheerfully fixed a problem with my coffee (the 2nd one was perfect Italian style espresso, but oddly the first was some kind of watery accident. It happens). The light bites are great. The fish and chips is generous enough for two Modest/heathy eaters or one trucky. Also they give great tips on their excellent selection of wine by the glass.... I need to go back with company. Also what is nice is there are different "spaces" and it is fairly free of intrusive pokies or big screens. I haven't been upstairs....

Thumbs up for this intercity pub... It's really relaxing to chill out over a few beers and a delightful meal. Great place to meet up with friends or take the family our for meal. It not over priced for drink. Some of the meals can be a bit pricey, but it worth the money at the end of the day. At this place to your weekend list indeed.

Visited on a week night for dinner, easy to request drinks or food menu and the time of food delivery was of standard time. Once the table had finished eating, we had to remove the big table of dishes to another table after 30 minutes as we were just disappointed of the table clearance time whilst the pub was quiet but had enough staff though they seam to struggle to act on this. The chips were on point, very crunchy and delish👌🏼 Pricing was slightly higher than normal and the venue was very clean with many rooms down and upstairs opportunities.

This is a great favourite whenever I visit my former 'hood of the inner west. It has great customer service and the food is delicious, healthy with vegetarian options and real value for money. Pub Manager is friendly and goes out of his way to make patrons feel at home.

Visited this place as an interstate visitor. My family are regulars and after my first time i could see why. The ambience and service is next to none. From bar staff to managers and locals are the most welcoming and friendliest bunch i have met in a ling time. Prices are great and the serving size of meals etc and very generous. I'm generally not much of a 'pub goer' but I couldn't wait to go back and looked forward to what we nicknamed the 'office' for an afternoon 'meeting' 😂 If you ever want to experience a five star hotel that is modern, warm & welcoming and have a memorable night - don't pass this place up!

Oh wow those ribs are just amazing! For the price.. a half-rack of delicious ribs with that sticky sweet BBQ sauce was easily worth it. Would recommend. The Rose has been my local for 5 years now; I have seen it transform into a rather upmarket location (particularly the upstairs is very nice), but unfortunately the drinks prices have exploded (the $10 jug of the month is a distant memory). Also, quality and portion size of the ribs (former special) have recently dipped - so why do I still rate it 4 stars then? Well it still is one of the best pubs in the area with a good selection of beers on tap, above average food and the a nice ambience.

A bar right next to erskinville station, the atmosphere is great and the food is excellent. Prices are what you would expect from the decor and area. It closes relatively early so you would have to make your way to Newtown if you wanted to continue your night out

Nice atmosphere, the $15 rump steak is fantastic, bathrooms are gendered but separated in one person units, so not as awkward if you have a diverse gender expression. Also right next to Erskinville train station and then do foid until 11pm. Great place with lots of charm.

Alright guys. So hear me out. This place is actually pretty good, minus 1 star because it's pretty expensive compared to your pokie funded places but still acceptable. But the other star you may ask! Well let me tell you a story. Now boys and girls. You're out for dinner on a balmy summers night. Having a celebratory bevvy on a Wednesday because new job and all that jazz. You've drunk 90% of your schooner and you're almost finished dinner. You're debating what you want for dessert and if you're going to get another drink. You have another sip of your drink and you put the last mouth full back onto the table, savouring it for that final 'after dinner gulp'. And then. AND THEN! The waitress takes your 'not yet finished drink but looks almost empty' glass from the table!!! Oh the disappointment. The pure agony of having that last sip ripped from your balmy, chip filled hands. The best part of the entire drink! The epilogue to your entire meal. And it's gone with the swift swipe of a waitresses hand. Yes I'll admit, it looked empty and yes it is her job, and yes she was just cleaning, BUT I SAVED THAT LAST SIP AND YOU RIPPED IT FROM MY GRASP LIKE A GREEDY TODDLER STEALING FOOD FROM A BABY. It's irrational I know. And I'm totally overacting, yes. But it made me so sad and I definitely didn't get dessert or another drink. Thanks for keeping the tables clean though!

Absolutely love The Rose! I reckon the refurb is the best I've seen. Great selection of drinks served by friendly staff. But it's the food that's amazing. I've eaten here 3 times in the past couple of months. First time we had the Sunday roast...what a treat. Next time, we had bar food before a show...excellent! Last night we tried the degustation tasting menu, which was faultless and included many culinary surprises, that were simply mind blowing. Their take on pavalova was a standout... but every morsel was fantastic. Our waiter was so attentive and knowledgeable about each dish. Jenna, the cocktail magician is so enthusiastic about her craft...great fun too! Pricess are reasonable for the quality of the offerings. Highly recommend.

Menu changes every few months, and you should definitely investigate dessert. There's a downstairs and upstairs area. Downstairs is a fairly typical pub, but upstairs there's a bistro that serves fantastic food. The only catch is it's not open every night. There's a mezzanine floor with a private room available (it has a TV on the wall and a pool table, with a view of the street outside) that can be hired or reserved cheap/free, so this is a good place to host a get-together for a friend's birthday.

Actually live in Adelaide and picked this location based on it being a central location for our Sydney family members to meet and none of us had been before. Went to the Rose for their Monster Ribs and Steak night (Tuesday to Thursday). Was pleased to be presented with a huge rack of ribs that was so big, it had to be served on a pizza plate. While not the most amazing ribs I've ever had, it was flavourful, saucy and not too dry. Great value though, at $25 for a full rack. The fries are some of the best in the inner west. Diamond cut and beer battered. Also of note, they have a 2 for 1 cocktail happy hour between 6pm and 7pm on weeknights. Bargain!

Impressed would be an understatement. This place is gorgeous, very well laid out - would easily fit groups of 50+ and has stunning little tables and chairs tucked away in elegantly themed corners upstairs. Highly recommend this place and am so glad people come from all over Sydney to dine here! It's worth it. They have a decent assortment of food variations from quinoa or beetroot salads, to great burger combo's, varied pulled pork fish, vego etc taco's and loads of things in between. Very reasonably priced - will continue to go back time and time again! Some parking available on side streets, otherwise it's a few mins walk from Erskineville station and about 10-15 mins walk from Newtown train station. Highly highly recommend!

Only stopped in for 1 beer and the pub looks like a nice watering hole, however the experience was ruined by the elderly lady working behind the bar. She was probably within her rights to say what she did but her delivery was very rude. We had just ordered 5 beers and were sitting at the bar when one of my group returned from the bathroom with another guy talking about the Super Bowl. They were getting a bit loud I'll admit and one of them threw in an F bomb, but the reaction from the lady was over the top. He let it slip once and she carried on like it was every second word out of his mouth. I've worked in hospitality for 20 years and I've had to ask people to mind their language but to chastise a grown man for saying F**k once in a pub is over the top. I'm sure this lady is great at her job and maybe she'd had enough of the Super Bowl crowd but unfortunately first impressions are lasting. The others have vowed never to set foot in the place again.

The first time I went I a burger and was subject to epic food envy when I saw another customer with the famous ribs. I did not make that mistake this time around. Twice cooked ribs doused in sticky bbq sauce arrived to accompany my pint of ale. The perfect couple complimenting each other. The smoky flavour and tang of bbq was finger licking good! The slaw was a bit too creamy, and the chips were crispy yet fluffy inside. I'd come back for the next ribs craving. Service was good, orders taken quickly, food arrived promptly, a staff member was a little grumpy but was balanced out by other friendly staff.

At last !!! A pub that gets service !!! From the moment we arrived ...had lunch and left ..we were looked after. There were 3 functions on as well and the publican welcomed guests and stepped out from the bar to guide them to their party zones. The refit - while still a work in progress is fantastic. The new room overlooking the street where the bottleo used to be is just beautiful. Was there in the evening and the lighting on the exposed brick is devine - great space. The room, which almost feels like a covered beer garden has board games and jenga - unsure if its catering for kids or hipsters but I was there with a tribe of 4 small humans in tow and it kept them entertained and quiet! We felt very welcome and comfortable in a family friendly space that still manages to be sophisticated and cool and seemingly appeared to be able to well cater to both demographics ... unsure if the sophisticated and cool would agree with my mummy demographic bias :) The food - having had a very disappointing feed at The Bank up in Newtown for lunch that day - the food here (appears to be a new menu from when I was last here pre reno) was fantastic - good quality and lots of it. Great bang for buck. I orderd the lamb pizza and at $16 was expecting an individual size - instead a UFO sized disc of awesomeness that could have easily fed my entire family arrived at the table . Not only was it an incredibly generous portion, the lamb was cooked perfectly - you know how you often get the feel that they chuck any old off cut onto a pizza base just to get rid of it??....not here, there was some serious pride that went into cooking that meat. Coupled with a heap of roasted veg and a beautifully spiced yoghurt it was one of the best pizzas I've had. Amazign value. The service - fabulous, the girls on shift that night were friendly, professional, accomodating and even offered drinks table service (unsure if we were just lucky or spoiled or whether this is the norm, but it was the bomb!) Well done Rose - I'm a local and have been disappointed so many times venturing out for a feed at our various watering holes around our lovely little patch, but you got it so right that for the first time ever I felt compelled to take the time to write this little spiel and say so. Thanks, I'll be back and I'll be telling my mates :)
