An old pub with lots of history, very charming and old world charm. Had dinner in the bistro upstairs which is accessible from stairs and an elevator. The staff were very friendly and efficient. Has a great play area for kids. Great place for families. And the food, of course, is delicious. Definitely will return. It's very popular and bookings are recommended

Lovely old fashioned country pub - lots of lovely creaky wood, old fashioned kindly friendly fast service. Lots of nooks and crannies and rooms and even a library upstairs. Beautiful upstairs dining room, great menu reasonable prices only we got a pretty disgusting oily gluggy risotto but the duck tasted great!! I loved my hamburger with the works but they gave me gluten bread and put an egg on it then took most of it off but it tasted great!! Might go back but not on purpose…

First Impressions.... The Feddy gives a welcome vibe on arrival, good blend of old meets new accentuating/highlighting the personality of the building you can feel it's got history and keeps with today's times as it doesn't feel outdated. The food I ate was fantastic! Entree: corn bread & chilli compound butter 🙂 I'm picky about lamb so I had the cutlets of course 😅 they where on point all meet tiny trim of fat 🤗 I would recommend giving this place ago. It really hit the spot!

Always loved this place until the last visit. Have been going there once and sometimes twice a week for about 5 years and have had beautiful meals and great service always UNTIL they put on a very unpleasant and rude woman as restaurant manager (She replaced one of the loveliest hospitality workers who is on maternity leave). I've never been spoken to on such a manner by such an unenthusiastic, ugly natured person in my life all of which was entirely unwarranted as all I asked for was the sauce I was promised with my meal. If I ever accompany my other half there again I will not be served by her if she is still there. I work in the employment service industry and meet wonderful and friendly people who would love to have a job. No one is irreplaceable - no one!

Great food in a normal hotel ambiance. Friendly staff and good portion sizes. Their smoked meats section is well worth trying and the choice of food is really good. Pizza parlour and kids area is downstairs with plenty of parking space within walking distance.

Wow. Talk about a gem set amongst the rough. This place was a total accident of a find.daughter and I were out for a Saturday drive and pulled into Branxton for lunch (support local economies) and decided we would do a pub lunch. Well, this place has changed since the last time I was here. There was 2 car parks full of cars and now I understand why. This it quite possibly the best pub restaurant I have been too in a very long time. Even though the place was packed, service was quick and the meals came out in good time. Everything about the meals was top notch. Salads were fresh, fish was well cooked, the chicken schnitzel was the best the daughter has ever had (solid 9.5 I was told.) 100% will be back and make this a regular lunch stop from now on.

Steak lunch. Got a 300 and a 450gm rump. They were beautiful and cooked to perfection. Bistro is upstairs so you can eat on the balcony if you like. Or enjoy the library if you like. Playground available too. Excellent food, staff and selection of commercial and craft beers.

Staying in the Hunter Valley and headed into Branxton for supplies. Had some time to kill so popped into the Royal Federal for a few beers. Great old school pub atmosphere and super friendly staff. Cool spot for a few cold ones and to watch the world go by.

We’ve eaten here a couple times this week while visiting the area. On both occasions the staff have been excellent. They are friendly, attentive and very accommodating. Top marks RFH team. The beers were fairly basic but tasted fresh like their system is regularly maintained. The food was great, wait times were quite short and the menu is reasonably priced. They also have some great midweek deals if you’re here for a few days.

Great range of bistro foods including pizzas, steaks, schnitzels, salads. Very fresh and we'll cooked. Also variety of places to sit with various tastefully decorated rooms and verandahs, as well as main dining section. They even have a book exchange. Very efficiently run in terms of ordering and speed of service. Gorgeous old building with period features. Plenty of parking.

We had dinner at the Federal Hotel on the recommendation of a local who goes there weekly and we weren't disappointed. The atmosphere was warm and cosy, there service friendly and efficient and our meals were very good. The meat was well cooked and a good serving of vegetables. All four of us had a glass of house wine and they were very nice.

Good pub food, drinks at a reasonable price. Lovely location upstairs (lift for access if required) with relaxed and dining seating. Verandah would be beautiful in the cooler months, but we visited on a 40° day so sat inside and enjoyed the aircon. Monday is $10 pizza night and they are a very good size.

After making the mistake of not making dinner reservations in pokolbin, we found this wonderful bistro, with kind, knowledgeable staff (coeliac/gluten free friendly). We had some steaks, with "toppers". First, the steaks were perfectly cooked, and the sides were generous. Now to the toppers. We were unsure when we read them on the menu, but let me tell you, it's what you want on your steak. You might opt for the smaller steak, as these can really make a meal. We will be coming back here next time we are in the valley.

Overcooked mushy packet pasta served up with the dirty pasta water which was separating the tomato ragout into a watered down tasteless soup. Generally hit and miss meals over the last year, but this was far beyond a miss, this was a complete atrocity of a meal x 2 (wife completely agreed with the awfulness of it). We did however get a refund and the staff are nice.

Had an impromptu meal at the RFH last night. Surprisingly, they could fit us in, they were so busy. Despite being crazy busy, our meals came out super quick, our sweet corn bread within 10 mins followed by our mains of stuffed chicken and the papperdelle pasta about half an hour later. All the food was delicious. I can see why they are so popular, atmosphere is great, the food amazing and big servings, and the service second to none, all the staff so friendly and accommodating. We have eaten there before and it just keeps getting better everytime. We live about an hour away but it's worth the drive. Do a few wine tasting and have a great meal at the RFH before heading home. I have been on another occasion and have called ahead as i had a friend coming with me with special dietary requirements, and with just 4 or 5 hours notice they were able to accommodate her needs. PS they also have great wines available and a good selection of beer on tap. I can't understand why this restaurant would get a less than 4 or 5 star review. Definitely go. Edit, and they now have their own olive oil, which is amazing, recommended to share with friends with dukkah etc so I'm trying to save some to share, but it's actually too good to share lol
