What a great find! This Manly bar combines pirate chic decor with amazing service and incredible cocktails. We were lucky enough to stumble across The Hold in time for happy hour, and their margaritas were *chef’s kiss.* Heaps of vegetarian food options on the menu. Looking forward to a return visit.

We've been to this place possibly 10 times in the past and have returned because the food is good, service fine, we like sitting outside. This time we found that they've changed their approach a bit, similar menu (but have replaced the best chips in Manly with factory French fries 😒🥱). Good burgers with great vegan options that are appreciated. Service has deteriorated a bit - but I guess this relies on the qualities of the individual servers, maybe we just got a bad night. However, we had to ask for, then wait for, then chase our CUTLERY. Messy!! Pretty good cocktails. On the basis of the better experiences of the past we'll try one more time.

Went in for a burger. It was quiet and the waiter asked me to order from the QR code. No internet or mobile signal so I could not place an order. No waiter. After waiting 10 minutes, I left. I hope the owners of these restaurants figure that a QR code is not a substitute for wait staff.

Great food, great atmosphere but service was a bit slow. Otherwise a great lunch stop for your Saturday day out in Manly. We ordered a burger, a salad and some chicken strips with steak fries, so we got a big variety. Everyone was really happy, although the burger was a bit small. Steak chips were a highlight, really fresh and crispy. Great food for a day at the beach. Centrally located near the main beach off the side of the markets. The waiters were nice, but it seemed like there were only two in the whole place. Service consequently took a little while, maybe 30 minutes. But food was good and it was a nice atmosphere in which to eat with a pirate ship vibe to complement “The Hold.”

Not the best burgers I’ve had, but they were still really good. The vegan burger was done right. The food is reasonably priced too. We didn’t wait that long to be served or get our food but we went at a pretty quiet time. Staff was super friendly and accommodating. Don’t sit outside if you’re eating as you’ll be attacked by birds. The setting of the place is super cool and you can tell that a lot of thought has been put into it. Very rustic and wooden.

Cosy bar with a great theme and atmosphere. We decided to eat here because of their vegan menu— loved how the prices were compatible to the non-vegan versions. I was most excited for the chick'n wings because I haven't had a good vegan chick'n wing since moving but was a little letdown to be served nuggets. It wasn't bad, just not what I expected. :) No complaints about the burger (Blue Beard's) and mac n cheese!

The lady on the service was amazing, she was friendly and welcoming and loved our Expresso Martini from the bar! We went just after lunch so was not busy and that helped given we had 2 young boys..Look forward to coming back on a Friday/Saturday night next time once live music re-starts! Recommended

Went tonight with my sister who vegan for quick birthday meal I had Captain jack burger and fries they are one of the best burger I ever had my sister had vegan Mac and cheese I took a few bite of it too was really nice she also had the vegan Nueva Espana which took a bite which I can say is a nice burger I would give food 5 stars. Service was great everyone who work there was super nice place was full but food only took 20 minutes they was super quick to bag up the rest of the Mac and cheese leftover for later so give service also 5 stars. Seem to be prefect place for a date with lighting and decor meant for that.

Great pub which is decked out to resemble below the deck of a boat (hence the name...) The menu offers plant based vegan options to all their meat burgers and they are delicious. The salad side is way too small for $5 extra though and you are often left waiting a while for your food. At night there is usually some good live music and the bar offers plenty of good drink options with skilled bar staff working non stop to satisfy the thirsty crowds

The service from the moment we walked in was cold. We booked as a party of seven, yet the cutlery container only contained enough folks, napkins etc., for half the table. One bottle of water was placed on the table as well, which again only served a few people and meant we had to keep asking for the basics. The waitress had to keep asking us to repeat ourselves over the music. The restaurant itself is excellent and themed well. The cocktails were good, and the starters were promising however, no one enjoyed their burgers. I had the chicken burger, but all I could taste was batter as the chicken patty must have been that thin. Other people said their burger tasted of salt, and they couldn’t taste the meat. All in all, I found the food to be average at best and the service elementary. I won’t rush back in a hurry. If I do go back, it would be for cocktails.

All of their menu can be made as vegan which I love, as my husband likes his meat. We ordered one vegan burger and one meat burger. Both were delicious, the vegan burger was really good, even my husband said he would order that next time! The burger was so huge I couldn't finish it. The side of chips was disappointing for my husband, he likes really big portions. Overall, it was a good experience and I would go back.

Best burger of my life. What a fantastic atmosphere! Super-friendly staff. It feels like you are in the hold of a ship - what a great themed place. The menu is relatively straightforward, allowing diners to chose from meat of veggie for each burger combo. I would recommend the veggie even if you are a meat eater (I most definitely am)... they are sensational! Great selection of liquor to finish off your evening. Not a particularly child friendly place. I would not hesitate coming back here!!!!

Great food, lovely staff, and wicked decor. I had the flagship burger with some cheeky steak chips. The burger was incredible, and the chips were to die for! The staff were great, Jack was the one who served me, and he was a bloody top bloke. Lastly, the decor was eye-catching and intriguing- very well done. Can't wait to go back and try a few drinks.

Very cool bar, themed like the inside of a pirate ship. Burgers are offered as regular and vegan options, and are delicious. Decent selection of beer on tap, and massively stocked bar. Plenty of indoor and some outdoor seating, kid-friendly and plenty of room for prams when I was there for lunch. Check it out, it's pretty awesome!

Had delivery from The Hold during the pandemic - arrived sanitary and safe in masks and gloves but the clincher was the drinks were mixed in front of me - and were like if I had a fresh cocktail from the bar! Amazing service and quick and thoughtful. Cocktails were great (margarita) and the burger was delicious I wish I ordered two of them - fresh and yummy but again - loved the finesse of the cocktail mixed on arrival. Hands down the best vegan burger I've ever had! I had the Captain Jack (made vegan) and loved it. The flavour combination was perfect. Atmosphere was great, loved the ship aesthetic and it was consistent throughout the entire premises. Everything from the lights to the walls fit the style. On top of that great music, friendly staff and quick table service made dining here a delightful experience. If you are ever in Manly, give this place a try!

Loved this place. Went for burgers with my husband and our nine year old and the service was super friendly and welcoming, and the food was great. Lovely attentive waitress went through all the food I couldn't eat (I am gluten intolerant) as well as good options for our son. Wine and beer selection is very good, and just loved the decor. This place was phenomenal. Every item was available with vegan options, which means neither my partner or I had to sacrifice our preferences to appease the other. My partner had the vegan version of Blue Beards burger, and I had the full-fledged Captain Jack burger. Personally, we felt the burgers had to many different flavours for us to pick out each and every one, but that didn't stop us from gobbling them down so fast we didn't even realise they were gone. The Hold is definitely on our list of places to revisit, and let it be known that is a very short list in terms of restaurants. We look forward to coming back very soon.

The vibe is good, but the appetisers we got where average. We ordered wings expecting typical deep fried buffalo wings, being this is a place that serves American style food. But the wings where oven cooked, soggy, and not even cut up. Yuck. Take note from wings and tins, or even the Steyne, they do hot wings right. Other than that the burgers there are good.

Been here about 5 times, it’s the Misses and I’d favourite spot in Manly. The Captain Jack is the best burger on the Northern Beaches by far, that Mac and cheese “patty” makes it taste so bloody good. I also tried the cheeseburger spring rolls for the first time and they were delicious!!
