Recommended by a friend who lives in Newtown. It DID NOT DISAPPOINT! Delicious crunchy juicy chicken, friendly and prompt service. We had lunch and bought takeaway for dinner. One can never have too much good fried chicken. Will definitely be back when in the area!

I ordered four pieces of hot chicken and blue cheese sauce. The chicken was super crunchy and still juicy, there was a strong amount of heat and this matched perfectly with the blue cheese sauce. Next time I'll just do three pieces, four was a bit much but I was not complaining getting through the fourth piece. Friendly service and plenty of hand sanitiser available.

i’m sure these guys do amazing chicken burgers (thus the generous 3 stars) i just haven’t had the chance to try them yet! i have however had the apple crumble… for $8 i expected something a little more. it was all apple no crumble and what little crumble there was tasted like garlic. and the apples were bland and mushy, couldn’t even taste cinnamon to overpower the garlic crumble. the whole thing came in a cupcake sized cardboard container! overall pretty disappointing. would love to try their savoury stuff though!

One of the best fried chicken I’ve ever had anywhere in the world. Crispy, juicy and tender it’s simply phenomenal. Comes with a wide variety of sauces. Burgers and sandwiches are also popular. Such great quality fried chicken at affordable prices is simply a steal.

Best fried chicken in Sydney hands down!! I've tried at Newtown and here in Potts point and both have been consistently ace! It is a pretty decadent meal, but if you're after a cheat meal this is absolutely your best option, never disappoints! Keeps really well by Deliveroo as well, doesn't get soggy like most others.

Best guilty pleasure around :) I love their fried chicken, usually get 3 pieces with blue vein cheese which comes with a few pickles as well. Wavy fries are awesome too. Last time I actually got grilled chicken thighs burger with macaronie, cheese and backon on the side and it the fact that I had a few beers before might have helped but that burger was delicious!!! The place has a few small tables and chairs so for lunch I get take away as the area is not so glamorous but the food is worth stopping by for.

The chicken is fresh and soft but the over all menu is quite expensive. The meal deal option was the most economical including two pieces of fried chicken with spicy sauce and pickles with a side of waffle fries and blue cheese sauce. I was worried it would not fill me up but it certainly did and could not finish the fries. Would I recommend this place to friends - yes. Would I go again - not any time soon, mainly due to the price.

The only downside is the place is very small and quite uncomfortable to eat in. They do have 2 tables outside now which is quite good, but this place can get pretty busy pretty quickly. Best fried chicken I've had. It takes awhile for the food to come out, but they have lots of takeaway orders and the food comes out piping hot. The portions are super generous. We didn't think that we ordered enough, but we did. The Frank's hot sauce is amazing. There's limited seating available, but turnover is fast.

I had the best chicken burger from this place! The size was huge and the sauce comes with the coleslaw in the chicken burger was amazing. It really highlights the tenderness and the crispness of the burger. I absolutely enjoyed their chicken burger, so far is the best Burger I've tasted. My partner ordered chicken wings but unfortunately they tasted abit plain, the chicken were not marinated very well so still have the gamy taste, but we managed to eat them with the dipping sauce. Another highlights from this place is the waffle fries. They were a supreme! Overall I rate this place 4.8/5😀

Went to Thirsty Bird exactly one week ago. We ordered 4 pieces (original) + 1 sauce for around $17. The sauce is chilli aioli The chicken tastes good, especially for late snacks. The chilli aioli tastes interesting. It appears to be a combination of aioli, chilli powder, and hummus. Overall, the food tastes nice. Downsides are, • No free tap water; and • Not sure where is the closest place to wash my hands. Chicken: 7/10 Sauces: 8/10 No free tap water: 1/10 Haven't decided whether I will be back or not.

I had really high expectations for my first try to this place.. maybe a little too high for a fried chicken place. I had one of their burgers which was really crispy and a generous serving but was disappointed by the lack of flavour of the chicken. The sweet potato waffle fries were quite nice and the mash and gravy was ok, but a but too much on the salt and butter for me to rave about. I hope the chicken might stand out a bit more by itself without the burger next time as i will be back to give it another go.

The chicken is not oily and being a fan of pickles, I love that they serve the chicken with sprinkling of pickles. I did like the chicken sandwiches as well, had their special with the Sriricha sauce last time there, I would have preferred more sauce but I know some people complaint there put too much on. WOW! We were craving fried chicken this evening and wow (yep I’m saying it again) this place really impressed us! First experience with TBird and chose it because of the reviews (spot on)...The chicken was so crunchy, fresh, hot, tasty and the perfect combination of juicy and dry (Those herbs and spices 🤤😍) We ordered delivery and were worried being a few suburbs away it might be cold when it got here 🧐 the food arrived piping hot.. Best chicken burger! Look, don’t eat there. You’re sitting on uncomfortable chairs, loud music blasting, cars driving past, the service is alright (aweful Service in Newtown Store though!), and no restrooms. It is not a dine in place. Therefor, I have to take a star off my rating. But I highly recommend the food there. Their chicken burgers are probably the best you can get in Sydney and the sides are delicious - I tried their fried chicken, mashed potatoes, mac n’ cheese and waffle fries. Really good! I mean I never finish any of the sides because the burgers are just too big but still very good, especially the waffle fries. Recommendation if you feel like an indulging chicken burger!

I would say that they perfect their nuggets really well. Their fried chicken isn’t the best but it’s decent. If you really want a nice burger then you have to go for the Japanese panko crumbed chicken burger, the combination of flavours is just right and makes it very delicious. I really think that they should have a buttermilk ranch flavoured sauce to accompany their delicious chicken nuggets. Definitely worth a try on a late night out in the city.

Quality was fine and service acceptable but as a fried chicken place, didn't find the fried chicken terribly great. It's also more on the pricey end of casual food venues in the Kings Cross area. Maybe check it out if you're desperate for some fried chicken, on a bun or otherwise.

Came here with my gf to enjoy a cheat meal. Ordered the hot and spicy chicken and a southern style chicken burger. The hot and spicy chicken was juicy and went really well with their ghost sauce, though still not as flavourful as the one from Belles. The chicken burger was perfect as the chicken and the sauce was spot on and amazing. Overall, a great place for those after a nice fried chicken meal.

Chicken is good sized quality chicken Traditional southern fried chicken was really good and definitely worth a visit, however after the expectation set by others I was hoping for even better ...tried "Stinger" burger on my second visit, again very nice, worth a try but I would prefer to have had with a juicy southern fried breast fillet ratjer than a thigh fillet ..it is $16 for a burger so its not like I am asking for too much. Definitely going back for more chicken, more waffle fries and to try the rest of the menu.

5 Stars for the BEST southern fried chicken I have ever tasted in Australia, 1-3 stars on customer service, which is a shame; I go there almost once a week, but the chef came out from the kitchen to take order are extremely rude (every single time). I’m from small-town redneck Georgia, so I was raised on sugar and country fried food. I left Georgia 10 years ago, and I’ve lived in a number of different cities since. Wherever I am I always search for the best local fried chicken, and it never really measures up...until I found Thirsty Bird. Thirsty Bird knocks all other fried chicken out of the park. It’s honestly the best chicken I’ve ever had! Only thing that could make it better is if they did biscuits and sweet tea!

Super tasty southern fried chicken. Pretty busy around dinner time (BUT good turnover = fresh product). Wait time can suffer but worth it to do your mouth and dopamine levels a treat ... also more pricey than KFC, but no comparison as the bird has much nicer juicier pieces with a tasty crispy crumb that doesnt go soft as you speed home to eat these with blue cheese sauce and Frank's hot sauce sauce on the side for a few bucks more. Also grab some pickled veg and a waffle or two with maple syrup ...have it American style with the mains or as a dessert. Enjoy with some cold beer or chilled wine and pretend the only existence is in your mouth as you focus on the crunch, the freshness and mix of flavours. They also do burger/sandwich style items and other sides.

Visiting Sydney for a week and ordered ubereats from this place twice it was so good! The chicken is juicy and succulent and has crunchy batter that's well seasoned, whether it's in a burger or the tasty on-the-bone chicken pieces. The waffle fries are crisp and dusted with a really nice chippy salt and I would whole-heartedly recommend the mixed pickles; crisp, sweet and tangy cucumber, carrot, cauliflower, etc. Get something from this place, you won't regret it!

The fried chicken is top notch. It appears to be priced somewhat high and it's not cheap, but each piece is a good hunk of chicken and the portions of the sides are solid. I had my chicken with the ghost pepper sauce which is actually made from Carolina reapers. Not a sauce to take lightly, brutally hot but a great condiment to dab lightly. Use as ketchup at your own risk. The venue is tiny and the waits can be long even if it appears empty due to the long queues of delivery couriers.

Great fried chicken! Had coleslaw as a side so can't talk about the other ones. Also had the ghost chilli sauce which was indeed spicy but lacked any real flavour - it tasted like pure capsaicin. Seating is a little odd - tables are too high to be comfortable and the stools don't have anywhere to rest your feet. However most people don't eat in (there's only about 6 seats anyway). Go for some good fried chicken!

If you don't like this chicken you simply don't understand what it is to have been a chicken. In a past life I remember cracking that shell and coming forth to be fed and nurtured by my farmer for decades to come. Sure there wasn't much space in the cage but I knew, without a shadow of a doubt, I was born to taste good. So on that fateful day when I entered the slaughter house I was given a final meal, with 12 other chickens. I took but one last beverage from the table. I threw the contents on the other chickens because before being axed I knew exactly what I was going to be, I was going to be a Thirsty Bird.

Ah, finally - a decent fried chicken shop in the cross. The chicken is pretty good, not overly greasy, and the crumb is decently crisp (I prefer it spicier though). Would suggest getting 2-3 pple and getting the 8pc box - the other options (3pc, meal deal) are not *actually* deals if you do the numbers (yay, free sauce. Woo). Besides, it's more fun to tear into fried chicken with friends.
