This is definitely worth a visit! Everything we ordered was delicious. The vegetarian dumplings are really unique. The food comes out fast so ideal for a quick lunch. The staff are really friendly. You order on a tablet so it's fast and no waiting around for waiters. It's really expensive for dumplings but worth the experience.

Funky space with the graffiti pop art decor and hanging lanterns, creating a laid back yet buzzing atmosphere. Simple menu with speedy service. The dumplings were great but the pork buns were fantastic and the star of the menu in my opinion. Don’t normally like pork buns but these were the exception! Plenty of tasty filling.
Great place for a quick lunch meet up or after work hang out. I’ll certainly go back.

A favourite dumpling place to visit in the CBD with friends. Only a short walk from Pitt Street Mall. Work in Progress has a nice menu selection and choice of alcoholic beverages. We ordered a cider & pint of Furphy. Received complimentary prawn crackers. I recommend ordering the lobster mini rolls (we order them every time!). Also ordered the scallop & prawn shumai and the salt & pepper squid. There’s also a choice of condiments to enjoy. I like ordering on the iPad provided on the table. The waitress even offered to split the bill when we paid which was handy. The restaurant has a relaxed atmosphere with fantastic customer service. I’ll be back!

Nice place, good service. Food is great, simple, nothing too fancy.
Music is a bit too loud.

Dim sum was fresh and tasty; just I found it a bit hard to justify the price I was paying.

Nice little dumpling place with table service. Choose items on the list. Pay at the counter when you are finished eating. Siu Mai was my favourite. Decor is cute. Staff are friendly but they are quite busy on weekday lunchtimes. Serves a good range of alcohol. Dumplings are quite expensive.

Working in Progress is a great place to have some typical Chinese food along with a cold beer and wine. Their table service is pretty good, with very friendly staff members but it gets very busy at lunch time, hence food can take a while to get ready.

After a long week, what better place, to catch up with long time friends then at a dumpling house with great food, good selection of drinks (wines and beers etc) and great 80/90's hip hop and rap with the occasional splash of older and new classic beats! The dumplings may be more expensive and currently a reduced offering than your usual yum cha venue, but the venue makes up for it with its laid back style. Always a favourite!

It's not a cheap dumpling spot but it is a good one with a smart menu doing inventive work. Tasty, friendly and a great place for a drink and a bit.

I’ve been here quite a few times and it is consistently good. Fantastic dumplings come out piping hot and super fast. I recommend the calamari it’s so fresh and tender with a lovely amount of spice. It’s a little on the expensive side for dumplings, but the service was friendly and warm. Great spot for after work drinks and a quick bite to eat.

Love the vibe and food here. Dim sum menu

The best dumplings and pork buns in Australia

Nice casual place for amazing dumplings. The ambience is really good. The prawn fried dumplings and the lobster roll is a sure bet. The steamed dumplings are also good. The price is reasonable and location is good. Might need a booking as it gets crowded during lunch hours.

The scallop and prawn dumplings are lovely as usual. Portion sizes are relatively small though not an outlier for the type of food (e.g. Dumplings and Buns). The service is always pleasant though occasionally busy and hard to get someone immediately. I would recommend it as a great place for a light lunch and conversation and would love to see an expansion on the beverage menu.

It's got a great ambience and the dumplings were amazing. It's a bit on the pricey side though , 15 bucks for a batch of four but not too much so. Excellent staff and service. Not sure what to make of the 00's RnB music playlist though. Great opener for a date.

Food was decent, but the service was very lacking, especially considering how few tables were occupied. When they brought the fried sampler platter, they didn't tell us what was on the plate, we needed to deduce ourselves. They forgot drink orders, brought one person a water while the other person had nothing, and didn't refill water.
The pumpkin & duck puff is fun. The steamed pork & prawn was the best item we tried.
The duck spring roll is a fail - lots of duck and a large piece of green vegetable with little flavour.

5 - 7 Happy hour on 50 lashes is great! Fast service, food came out very fast, perfect quick great tasting dinner before attending another event nearby. Duck spring rolls and chicken and chive dumplings definitely a favourite.
M. K.
A bit of a departure from the usual Merival formula, this dumpling house on King St is fantastic. From the street it looks like a hole-in-the-wall but is a decent size once inside. The dumplings and other offerings are excellent and the staff attentive and knowledgable about the fare. Excellent for a quick lunch, and full of others doing the same. More than worth a visit.

Staff were friendly and attentive without being pushy at all. Cool interior design, mixture of modern / trendy renovated older style decor. Our waiter suggested a watermelon cocktail (was delicious an just what we needed as it was such a hot day). The food was delicious. Not too expensive but tasted great. They have cool retro arcade games that are free to play. Funky atmosphere and music playing. The waiter also suggested a great beer to go with our meal. Try the szechuan sauce!

Love this place. It's nice and cosy. Their dim sum are really good too. Love the decor.

This is a brilliant restaurant. The food is perfect ... tastes fantastic and well presented. The service is friendly and efficient. On a busy night the plave has a great vibe. I've eaten at a Michelin star dumpling restaurant in Hong Kong, and more recently Mr Wongs in Sydney and Melbourne. WIP beats all in terms of value for money and experience.

Trendy venue opposite The Grace hotel. The staff were excellent as they had great knowledge of the menu and quick service.
Had the mixed steamed and fried platter. Standouts to try would be the Wild Mushroom dumplings and the WIP Duck Springroll.
E. K.
Not entirely sure what to make of this place. The place confuses me. They serve only two types of dishes, fried chicken or noodles. They're both priced around the same, but the serving portion of the noodles is small and large for the fried chicken. The noodles were tasty but the flavour of the fried chicken was a little too over powering. Also the decor of the place gives me a feeling of "it's not sure what it wants to be". Half of the place has oriental decorations, while the other half isn't.
I guess I'm not sure what to make of this place. Maybe it's still a work in progress...
D. L.
Yummm! Very funky vibe, fast service and really great dumplings! Highlights were the mushroom dumplings and the spring rolls. Book ahead to avoid disappointment
S. F.
You never knew you needed a deep-fried lobster and mozzarella roll wrapped in rice vermicelli and dipped in sriracha mayo until you've eaten here. Hip vibe, great tunes, lovely service, and fun, creative, well-made dumplings. Hope to come back!
R. M.
Beat value , great food and yea take a friend , take a dozen because they will thank you . Only thing annoying is that 25% of the table is taken up with a huge box that stores chopsticks , tissues, more chopstick and even more chopsticks , sauces and more chopsticks , etc in bulk to save the staff bringing you your own and you feel like you don't want to use as too many fingers have been there before you . Plates come out and no room for anything , barstools and high tables next to smaller tables means you are always face level to someone's arse or some sexy legs .
a. m.
Dumplings are absolutely delightful. However, your service is not up to scratch. This is second time our orders got stuffed up by their serving staff. And it was not even that busy. Their wait staff should at least know the names of the ingredients for dim sum.
A. W.
Went on a Wed night and it was the perfect catch up spot with a couple of friends. Atmospheric bar yet quiet enough to hold a conversation without shouting at your companion Have been here twice now and the Thai food has been great both times. Love how there's the standard pad thai on the menu, and a several other different Thai dishes that you don't come across everyday.
J. G.
Walk in, order EVERYTHING on the menu and be delighted.
Dishes are meant to share and great for groups. The selections are always fresh, incredibly tasty and keep pushing the boundaries of curiosity.
Wash it all down with a beverage from the well thought out drinks menu and take a selfie with the wait staff. Hey, it's a Work in Progress and so are you!
L. G.
Great dumpling place in Sydney.
M. S.
Nice little cute place. I usually like to go here at happy hours. Their dumpling goes down so well with tab beers!
C. K.
Delicious food and cocktails with good tunes from the DJ! Perfect for a Thursday night drink or after work chill out. I’ve been here numerous times and it’s always a great experience. I’ll definitely be back for more!
B. S.
This was my third time at WIP and I loved it as much as the previous times. Dumplings are really yummy, worth the price. Funky music and really good vibe
S. M.
I like this place but they state on their menu: "Apologies we cannot alter menu items, our menu contains gluten" - yet when I came here for a birthday last month they served so many gluten free options.
Come on Merivale, you can do better.
R. S.
Such an easy place for groups as you can order everything from the iPad. Super fast service, great dumplings and buns.
E. B.
Not sure how much longer this little gem will be popping up for, but the fried chicken varieties are delicious. Don't miss it! Staff are friendly, which always is a plus in Merivale venues!
A. L.
Honestly so far the best tasting dumplings yet in Sydney for me. Price is on the higher side, luckily it's close to work so just have to do business lunches here.
L. L.
I had the duck spring rolls, prawn & scallop dumplings & the lobster roll. Everything tasted great looking forward to going back and tasting the rest of the menu.
M. K.
It's small busy place near Grace Hotel. It has its own charm with a great service and tasty dumplings.
D. O.
Food was great, service was lightning quick. Lashes were commercial beer but comfortable with the meal. Menu limited for dim sum but keen to go again.
D. S.
Always great food. Always. If you want vegetarian though, you need to get there early because they sell out really quickly. If not, get one of everything! Seriously.
A. D.
Having dumplings in a place like this is just half the experience... The food, drinks, service and decor are all great!
E. B.
Delicious! Definitely loved the jade seafood dumpling! Attentive service and a fun place!
F. M.
Enjoyed the food, it's got a kind of LA gangsta feel and the music is a bit loud. Heavily influenced by Chinese food, and a couple of other asian twists.
S. G.
Good dumplings and beer. Great for some after work drinks and a bite to eat. Cool and comfortable decor.
D. W.
Friendly staff however food could be more authentic, and are not very filling. Can be very expensive if you’re a bit hungry!
L. C.
Great food and great staff. The bar tendered orders some food for us and it was perfect. Check it out whilst its still around.
G. G.
Always a great location for a quick lunch, make sure you try the mushroom dumplings!
H. P.
They had nice food, especially the dumplings. It was a bit pricey though, ~$30 for food and beer
R. H.
The dumplings were delicious and the staff took great care of us. Definitely going back.
R. N.
Trendy little bar with dumplings, easy to walk straight past it but it's well worth a visit.
