Comments of Yebisu Yakitori
C. D.
If you want a Japanese experience, this is the place to go! I went on the 7/1/21 around dinner and this is my review.
The service was amazing, especially from the staff member Fusao Nakamura, his service made the whole experience truly enjoyable!
He showed my partner and myself around the menus and recommended us the meals that is popular in Japan, he was constantly checking on us and making sure everything is okay. From start to finish he has looked after us on the whole experience.
The food was excellent, you can just tell that the food was made with pride and care. All the meals tasted freshly made and full of flavour and presented in such a way you just have to take photos of it to show off to your family and friends, I just wanted to order the whole menu and try everything.
The atmosphere of the restaurant just made you feel like you are in Japan and it looked beautiful. The whole restaurant was clean and presentable with great lighting.
Once again I would like to thank Fusao Nakamura for the excellent experience! I will definitely be coming back and will be bringing more people. Keep up the fantastic work!

Good values, clean and nice. Not big Avenue, so check before you go if seats r available. The lunch menus are pretty good value and price. Highly recommended. Dinner, it is bit pricy , so not the best if u look for budget dinner. Nice interior, like one in japan.
A. D.
Always good to be here. Never been disappointed, also fusion dishes are exceptional.. management should have extra attention on cleanness and hygienic
A. V.
It was relatively similar to Japan in some ways like the vending machine part.
I liked that you order on the screen, my sister did not like that.
They brought your food quick and I think the prices were relatively decent. Some of the food I really liked and others were okay but I probably wouldn’t get again. I loved the sushi parts but we got a fish pancake which wasn’t my favorite thing.
Overall I think it was worth a try.
Update:
I thought this place was pretty cool and somewhat authentically Japanese as they love their vending machines and automation.
Came here with my sister and I liked all of the food except for the fish pancakes. It was very heavy and didn’t have much flavor.
What I did love was the sushi and we got a salmon spring roll that was really nice and light and had greens.
The menu was expansive and they were very speedy at getting our orders out.
This place is also an introvert or quiet persons heaven. There is barely any reason to interact with humans here at all.
I would come back!
L. B.
Nice, fun vibe in this place. Ordering is easy on the provided tablet. Food was generally really good, but a couple of dishes weren't at the same level - such as the pork belly yakitori which was a bit tougher than expected. Still, a fun night out and reasonably good value i would definitely go back again when in the city. Authentic and tasty Japanese food.
J. W.
The food tasted quite average but the price was very steep. However, the service was quite fast and everything came out with good timing.
B. C.
A wide range choices of Japanese/fusion dishes, beer and sake. E.g. deep fried curry chicken soft bone, Napolitano fried Udon.
Recommended to try their hotpot, even the mini one was decent in size.
Good for friends gathering or casual dinning after work.
A. S.
Last time I was here it was fresh, hot, the food was really spot on. A bit on the pricey side and felt it was worth it. This time around the sushi rice was clearly old, the portions were smaller, and the service while fast at bringing the food was lacking in temperament. Not worth what we paid.
V. L.
A great place to have a feed in the city, especially before a show or a movie. If you come during peak periods though, be prepared to wait. The food is quick and also amazing, the meat dishes are perfectly cooked and such generous portions!
P. W.
Love the ambiance. One of my favourite places. One of the only places you can get Yebisu Beer. The sake trolley is a nice touch as well. You must try the yakitori (chicken skewers) they are amazing. The selection is wide and the staff are all friendly and polite. It is often hard to get a seat on Friday night so get in early. A little pricey but well worth it
M. C.
Decor of a classy street bar, this fin decor has many points of interest to talk about, with the ease of ordering on the iPad, things get smoother and more fun with larger groups. The alcohol selection is very nice even with descriptions of sake available. They also have daily specials from their seafood and meat range too. Good place to go in groups and solo at the bar.
E. C.
We had lunch here on a day exploring some shops in the city. The staff were all lovely and the food was excellent! I had the pork ramen and my friend had the pork cutlets, we would highly recommend both. (Photo is the pork ramen)
F. J. (.
Good for when you're just looking for a place to eat (and just really really hungry) and not after high quality menu. The sides were not great - only had the soup, didnt really like the rest (some salad and tofu with soy sauce). The main dish was ordinary. Fairly priced.
One thing to note though is that the cups/glasses doesn't look clean... and the tap water looks undrinkable.
L. Z.
It is my third time that I come to this place and I always have a good experience ... without a doubt the takoyaki and the salmon skin nigiri are my fav !! recommended to go with friends or a first date !!!
S. T.
Great range of Japanese izakaya food. Staff are very friendly with super fast service. Lunch time bentos are delicious and the dinner menu is also very good. This izakaya is my favourite place to eat Japanese food in Sydney city. Yum!
D. R.
Favourite city izakaya (right next to town hall station). Delicious baby clam dish and pan-fried assorted mushroom dish under entree& salad section. They also have oshiruko (red bean soup with rice cake) which is very rare and hard to find in Sydney. Also have all your usual stuff (+ large selection of sake). If you order a particular one from the trolley, the staff rings a bell and all the staff yell out (something).
Order from a tablet
M. D.
One of my fav Japanese restaurants in Sydney, always fresh, huge variety on menu, quick service, great atmosphere, great food!
G. C.
Decent selection of meat skewers that goes well with alcoholic drinks. Ordering is automated via the tablet at each table, easy and straight forward.
However individual items are a bit pricy, though the serving size allows you to try variety of dishes.
Fairly busy around peak hour times during dinner, ideal for small groups.
C. M.
Very nice Japanese bar which j frequent. Atmosphere was great, staff very friendly. The price was reasonable and the only concern I had was that a bit too much mayonnaise on all their dishes. Otherwise the food was exquisite would recommend anyone to go whether you drink or not.
A. M.
The pork gyoza was great. Lunch meal was OK. We had pork cutlet and karaage curry which were also OK. Not really a place if you wish to enjoy authentic japanese food taste but overall a good place for a quick meal.
S. B.
The food looks delicious and the taste is okay.clean place, service not really good.
L. I.
Nice, casual Japanese yakitori restaurant in the theme of Japanese street vendor/market. Ordering on the iPads is novel and fast. There's plenty of sushi (inc slightly rarer options like calamari, octypus, urchin) and meat skewers available. I enjoy the pork belly and wagyu beef skewers best. You can accompany your meal with an abundance of simple mocktails/cocktails as well as a roving sake cart (available for tasting!). The drinks often come with more ice than drink though.
M. O.
The self ordering system is not great but the food and ambience make up for it. The wait staff were also very helpful rectifying issues like undelivered items. I would definitely go again.
a.
Quick and easy Japanese eatery. Priced mid range but they do it well. Has the agadashi eggplamt and boiled salmon with rice. Would come here again too try the other dishes on their menu.!
C. F.
good Japanese food with large selection of drink list. ordering is efficient through ipad, wait time can be a little long during lunch time。
T. L.
Good combination of minced beef, egg and rice. Dip karaage chicken in the Japanese beef curry which is the best taste. These two sets of meal are newly in the menu.
K.
Came here and ordered the special of the day - chicken teriyaki set for $16.80. Generous portions and food was fresh and tasty. Even came with side of three slices of various sashimi pieces. Good value for the city.
Update 11/12- they now sit pairs along the bench with no social distancing. I could like my neighbour’s food. Ironically they are so strict with signing in and check you have the COVID app and have signed in. Seemed understaffed, took 25 minutes for our food. Only two chefs during peak weekday lunch. Chefs didn’t use gloves or mask.
J. L.
There is always a line at this izakaya (a casual Japanese pub that offers small dishes) style restaurant. Food was really nice and the friendly staff working there really helped give this restaurant an authentic Japanese feel.
M.
Great selection of food and serving size is on the more generous side. Lots of sake and beer to choose from. Efficient service, ordering is done by iPads.
C. P.
Great food and selection options. Although when i came there for dinner, the menu was really different and expensive. I would suggest eating here lunch only
A. R.
Had a really good time here. Food was fresh, tasty & reasonably priced. Service was friendly & timely. I like the idea of being able to order many small dishes although prices creep up very quickly.
Lunch specials are very good value for money.
K. T.
Always awesome, nearly addicted to the udon, great bento boxes, excellent sushi and hand rolls, all in a distinctly Japanese setting..
L. P.
Same setting as a bar in Japan, food was nice and they have a few good japanese beer on tap. It's a bit expensive.
D. L.
Food was great and the service better. The iPad ordering system is easy to use and food was quick to the table. Really enjoyed the sashimi and pan fried pork gyoza. It is a tad expensive with it being hard not to spend $70 or less. Photo is of Beef Tataki
E.
Ordered these 3 dishes : mentai omelette , unagi sushi and curry karage rice. Omelette mentai was too milky and the texture was too soft for me. The only dish I enjoyed was the sushi.
M. L.
Had a great experience here. Only ate food items from the yakitori menu, and everything was amazing. Highly recommend the chicken soft bone and chicken giblet.
Exceptional customer service as well from the restaurant manager. He looked after us very well and made all the right recommendations for food and drinks.
C. C.
Dishes are in very small portions, we ordered three snacks with two teas and it's already $30.
A.
Aside from their slow and sloppy service, their food is well worth its price of about $20-30 a head. I had their unagi set with the broth, which wasn't the nicest, but their curry pork cutlet looked amazing.
B. L.
Great Japanese food and drinks. Must visit if you like yakitori (skewers).
c. l.
Every dish was fabulous and the ordering screens are efficient and smart. The seafood salad is my recommendation - fresh, healthy, lots of variety, great sauce. I left something behind and they kindly kept it for me.
K. T.
Used to be good and reasonable before they renovated; now they have limited choices, expensive and small portions.
B. B.
Great ambience and very clean establishment with touch screen ordering for efficiency.
Excellent customer service but in busy times they limit your dining time despite long wait times to receive your orders. This took away from the experience.
The food generally was above average - some yakitori items were really great though especially the pork belly skewers and chicken skin.
A little bit pricey especially the tap beers and the food serving for the price is a little steep. However, the price is justified for the overall experience and location.
J. L.
food is okay environment a bit narrow and noisy. price is high as well
D. B.
A very busy restaurant in regent place. The food was so good as it looks.
Food : 7/10
Place : 8/10
Service : 8/10
S. (.
Nice food. Good selection. A little bit pricey.
Y. N.
Very good food, fast and friendly service. Seafood salad was the best
D. R.
Quite nice food and staff, seems very authentic and prices are somewhat reasonable although on the pricier side
D. H.
Fell in love with this place the moment I saw it. Such a true authentic Japanese vibe to the ambiance. With such a large menu to choose from, there is something for everyone. My family and I have been back 4 times in as little as 3 months. Whenever I’m in Sydney this is my go to place for lunch. And the fact that its so close to Town Hall station makes it so convenient.
I plan to eat the menu by the end of the year!!
Prices are reasonable for all items. A great range of sake to choose from! The food taste fantastic.
M. L.
Friendly staff here, their english is not that good but enough. You order using Ipads and food comes to you quick smart. Delicious hotpot.
W. W.
We came here to try, not having read reviews. We were pleasantly surprised with the quality of the food, however did find that it came at slightly too large a price tag, for what it is. The ordering procedure is quick and straight forward (from an iPad menu) and food service is relatively quick (we were there on public holiday). If it were just for the food, I would give it 4 stars. But considering the lofty price, 3, as there are similar options for less, elsewhere. That said, extremely convenient location.
R. W.
First of all, this place is COVID Safe. Love it!
The waitresses here are polite and very helpful.
Food service is very quick and food is pretty nice.
The only thing to improve is to have more variety of dishes.
Recommended.
s. L.
Always walk pass this restaurant but never try before.
Their restaurant sign isn't that obvious coz its blend with other Japanese sign, which non-japanese people can't read.
Until yesterday my friend craved for bento box and Googled this place.. yet I still took the wrong turn coz it's hard to find their restaurant sign.
Absolutely love the bento box.
The presentation looks just a standard bento box but taste great😊
J. N.
Friendly staff, LARGE selection of sake to try and really good food. The wagyu beef skewer was our favourite!
N. C.
Authentic Japanese cuisine with fun electronic ordering system. Very yummy and close to the cinemas.
F. f.
We had deep fried crumbed prawns, a pork ramen, bbq pork belly rice and generous serving of matcha tiramisu. The child was in impressed with the softness of the pork and the egg in her ramen and enjoyed it at first in small portion, although soon regretted after deciding to eat the rest of the egg in one mouthful as it made the rest of the ramen tasted like egg. The BBQ pork belly rice was delicious though could do with a little less sauce drenching the rice.
Overall a satisfying meal.
There was a minimum spend of $30 per person except of children 10 or under.
K. Y.
Top notch quality but watch out it can catch you with the prices. A lot of reasonable priced dishes but $30 for 150 grams of steak. We aren't in Japan here. Would be ok if it was amazing but it was your average Aussie steak. Otherwise highly recommended!!
K. M.
I've been coming here for a few years now and the food has always been nice. I particularly like their version of udon noodles.
Over the past years though I do feel like it has changed a little bit. I don't feel like it's worth the money as much as it used to be but hey, it's the city and times change.
Sometimes the staff are a bit all over the place and I feel like orders can take longer than what you would like.

Presentation: 7/10
Taste: 8/10
Price: 4/10
Volume: 4/10
Service: 5/10
Total: 5.6/10 (2.8 stars) - Rounded up to 3 stars.
The restaurant is very small and gets busy quickly so you will get a time limit. The general rule at these types of restaurants is get in, eat quickly, and leave on time. As such, staff are rushed to keep the tables turning over and customer service is generally lacking.
There is an iPad at the table for you to order from, so you don't need to find a staff member to make an order. They forgot to turn ours on so we lost 5 minutes.
The food itself tastes pretty good, but portion sizes are extremely small and expensive. The staff will just dump the food on the end of the table without saying what it is, so if you are not familiar with the food then you might be trying to guess what it is. The presentation varies; some are well presented, whereas others look really boring.
When it's nearly time for you to leave, you will be asked for last orders before your screen is turned off.
Overall, it's a mediocre restaurant and probably not worth coming back to.
A. N.
Nice baby clam, my wife loves it too. But the ramen and beef talaki are just average
A. C.
Cool place in the city for lunch, although, $3pp surcharge for eating in...........
K. D.
Used to be one of my fav places but it's gone down hill dramatically.
Some dishes are still great, however getting all mains and then waiting another 30 minutes for 1 X sushi roll was a joke and unable to remove so wait some more.
Don't think I will be coming back any time soon
c. w.
Great food, large range of sake and cocktail
C.
Yummy Japanese food. A lot of options to choose from. Can get quite busy so there is a long wait.
H. L.
We were there for a quick business lunch, I had vegies sushi dishes, they were freshly made. My guest had sashimi sushi and they looked great. The restaurant followed strict covid 19 rule which is comforting. Will do again.
D. L.
We've been twice and both times has been awesome. Be prepared to line up if you're going during peak times. The meats and chicken are absolute mouth watering. Make sure to try the Sakis as it will truly add to the authenticity that this place brings. Always reminds me of being in Japan when I eat here.
S. R.
Tasty food in a really nice environment. Order by tablet, as is common in Japan. Has a really good selection of dishes even for the less adventurous. I like the bar style dining up front, though also has tables for groups of 2 up to about ten or so. Lunch specials are also available, though are set per day.
W. S.
Generally, the food is rather good despite it having too wide a selection of Japanese dishes for a Yakitori restaurant as the name suggests.
Every dish we ordered were good except for the Maguro in the Sashimi was not as fresh as expected and the Dried Skate Fin was too tough and dry. Otherwise, this Izakaya has the widest menu selection I have seen outside Japan.
Will definitely visit again when I drop by Sydney.
A. J.
A really great experience … as long as you don't mind the queue to get in. The novelty of being able to order from your table via a touchscreen never wears off. And who knows how the food arrives so fast because it is all beautifully presented … which must take some time, surely? A highly recommend experience.
M. T.
Awesome selection of grilled yakitori. The scallop with garlic fried rice was awesome too! Was a bit anxious about the service from previous bad reviews but we were pleasantly surprised when the waitress noticed my pregnant wife so ensured we quickly had a comfortable seat. Highly recommended
H. S.
I came here for lunch, very hungry and not feeling well. Once I sat down I realised they only had a limited menu for lunch, and I couldn't eat any of it as I am pregnant and it was mostly raw fish (which I usually love). I was trying to figure out what to do when one of the staff came over to ask if I was okay. I explained my situation and he said he would find me something to eat, even if it wasn't on the menu, and asked what I felt like eating. I went with a bowl of udon and tempura. It was hands-down the best udon and tempura I have had, and I won't forget the kindness of the man working there. I left full and smiling, and very thankful!
C. O.
Favourite place for lunch in town hall area. Lunch time deals are at very good price everyday. However the lunch deal is only available until 3pm. Usually go for the big $30 set meal. Portion is large enough for 2 people. Fresh sashimi. Great service by the staff.
f.
Good food excellent service. They made an effort to make sure we enjoyed our visit.
Finally a Japanese restaurant would give you a decent amount of fresh wasabi!!!
A. R.
Had an amazing experience at this restaurant. The food was delicious and ready quickly. Great atmosphere and service. The manager Fusao was especially helpful and recommended a few dishes that I will be back for. Thank you!
P. M.
Very good as always. A bit pricey but it is in the city so generally prices are a bit more expensive anyway.
B. B.
Great ambience and very clean establishment with touch screen ordering for efficiency. …
K. Y.
Top notch quality but watch out it can catch you with the prices. A lot of reasonable priced dishes but $30 for 150 grams of steak. We aren't in Japan here. Would be ok if it was amazing but it was your average Aussie steak. Otherwise highly recommended!!

H. Z.
One of my fave places, with my fave beer!
B. C.
One of the best places to have dumplings but everything else is good too!
U place your order via a tablet. That way u can orderer anytime and no meed to wait for a waiter.
Also good quality food and one of my favourite places in Sydney
J.
Tasty food complimented by quick and efficient service. I love the iPad ordering system as I think it speeds things up immensely and makes the entire experience feel very efficient.
Restaurant is decked out like a typical Japanese izakaya. It does get busy though so come early to avoid disappointment!
Tables are only available for 1.5 hour - 2 hour sittings it seems.
Very hard to get the corner booth tables unless you have a group.
Food is very tasty and comes out quick. Big variety on the menu as well.
Love the garlic & scallop fried rice along with the Tamago sushi and Ikura genkan. The Yakitori is also delish and worth a try.
Definitely come here for the fun vibes, tasty food and colourful drinks!
M. V.
One of my favourite places to go for lunch in the city. Absolutely love their katsu curry and curry udon. My partner loves their wagyu beef and the ox tongue meal sets. Usually pretty fast service depending on what you order. Definitely have to get there as soon as they open though because it’s gets very packed out very fast.
d. m.
It is a good place, good atmosphere, so vibrant and nice food and service. Couldnt be more happy.
J. M. O. G.
The best place I've tried in Sydney. You can order using a touch screen which is in the table and they bring everything to you. When someone orders sake they ring a bell, it's pretty funny. When you leave all the waiters "sing" goodbye in Japanese. It's a must visit if you like Japanese food.
S. S.
What a great experience. One of the workers let us sit down early for dinner service so we didn’t have to stand around which was very kind. Food was great, good portions, tasted yummy and didn’t have to wait very long for service. Would definitely like to come back.
J. T. y.
Cool and creative food with nice waiters and waitresses. There are seats where you can watch them roast your food (if that's how you say it) the food does come a bit slow at times but the atmosphere is very cosy and warm 🤗
S. c. (.
When you're in Japan, it's a must to visit Izakaya to sample all the marvellous food it has to offer. It also gives you the opportunity to taste many different things when there are small plates to pick from. Izakaya Yebisu is a taste of Japan (if you don't mind the pun). Situated in Regent Place, you sit in booths, at tables or watch the chefs in action. Japanese memorabilia adorns the walls and it feels like you're in Japan. We sat in a booth and perused the menu, which is on a touch screen computer at this place! The screen is catergorised into specials, sushi, sashimi, desserts and drinks so it is easy to locate what you're looking for. Prices are listed, as well as an image. Add it to your cart and order away! Press for service or a glass of water - easy to get what you need promptly.
We begun with a wagyu hot pot, tender beef in a beautifully flavoured soup with vegetables and tofu. We also got some ramen to go with it. This was a great meal for a cold winters night. When you're at an izakaya, you can't go past yakitori - pork, seafood, chicken, your choice! We had some moist chicken thigh, nicely seasoned.
We also shared some salmon nigiri. One of my the specials was a sashimi cone - an incredible ice cream cone filled with sashimi, vegetables, avocado and roe! How cool is that! The sashimi here is extremely fresh, they get in from the fish markets daily.
There were some great looking desserts and whilst the tempura ice cream looked outstanding, we couldn't go past the green tea tiramisu, nice and spongey with cream, ice cream and fruits. We loved this sugary end to the meal.
We didn't have alcoholic drinks on this occasion, only some hot tea, but they have a huge range of cocktails, sake and whiskeys. Perfect for a catch up with friends to get that Japanese eating experience in the heart of the sydney cbd. Staff are efficient and friendly.
P. K.
The staff were very friendly, the food and sake was reasonably priced, and it all tasted great! I'm also a big fan of the transparent glass kitchen. Even the chefs smile at you. I'll definitley be coming back!
a. k.
It's hit and miss. But for sure avoid the beef guts hot pot. First time I was very disappointed, then I tried again and loved it. Then it became my favourite place for Japanese food, then I had a few bad meals. So yeah, 3 stars seems fair. Sake selection is good though.
J. C.
There's a variety of dishes here to choose from, once you manage to grab a table and order off the iPad. Service is friendly and efficient most times. Some dishes are smaller, like the fried rice and noodles, than expected compared to other restaurants but overall it is worth it.
J. J.
Great food, it feels authentic in my opinion.
P. E.
One of my favorite places for Japanese. The food selection and menu is really good and the service upon visits has been fantastic.
Lunch is great value. Been for dinner couple of times but felt the dinner menu was slightly more costly in comparison.
B. C.
Food
I ordered the lunch tonkatsu rice bowl set. The pork cutlet breading was slightly soggy, but not overly so. It was served on top of some fried egg, something that I have not seen before for tonkatsu, but I enjoyed nonetheless.
I took off one star because they didn’t have tonkatsu sauce (とんかつソース). I tried explaining to the staff that it was sauce for katsu that was usually made with plums or prunes, but they didn’t have it.
My friend enjoyed his teriyaki salmon rice bowl set.
Service and cost
The prices were reasonable, service was quick, and I enjoyed the tablet-based ordering system.
Conclusion
I would not come here again for tonkatsu because they don’t have tonkatsu sauce. But I would perhaps go again for a different dish.
A. M.
Always busy, but always worth the wait.
Very authentic Japanese dining, ordered via touchscreens at the table.
My recommendation for a playful night is:
Okinawa Orion beer, jug of
Sea urchin, large entree of
Fried Gyoza, pan of
Sashimi, main of
Kubota Manju Junmai Daiginjo, bottle of
Choose life...
D. F.
A great little restaurant - been there loads of times - you use the iPads to order from your table and the service is quick and the food is excellent! Staff are very friendly and polite.
Great place to take friends or maybe a romantic dinner, as is tucked away and nicely decorated.
A. M.
Izakaya style speciality with the usual sushi and sashimi dishes. Very quiet here on Sunday afternoon but still has a sense of "being in Little Tokyo" in the heart of Sydney. This is one of a few Japanese eateries inside the Regent Place shopping centre. Very polite and friendly service. You feel a buzzing atmosphere. Highly recommended for something authentically Japanese especially the izakaya (tapas) style delicacies.
j. o.
One of the few 'real' Japanese places around.. with all staff being Japanese.
I've been a few times and it's been decent.
But last time I went the attitude of two of the waitresses was terrible.
It's a shame considering Japanese are world renowned for their service.
C. L.
One of my favourite Japanese noodle bars. Hidden up the back of Regent Place, and always buzzing. Great for a get together with friends. Puzzling out the iPad ordering is like an ice breaker in itself.
C. J.
Very nice food that mixes traditional Japanese with modern tastes that is sure to please all. My partner and I went, she grew up on traditional sashimi while I have hardly had Japanese before, and we both can't wait to go again.
M. M.
A recount of my experience. um. I ordered the it was beef noodle thing. Firstly i got my food. It looked nothing like the picture said. I was already shat by this disappointment then we went and located a table to sit on however It was already a group of young womans sitting there. They seemed um majorly uncomfoprtable with me and the boys they sat there all along with a blank facial expression like we were from another world. The food was a total shat off. i will be recommending this place to my senior business contacts a daughter.
_.
Great value for lunch, Terriyaki salmon set highly recommended!
Food served looked even better than the picture on the menu. Small pieces of sashimi and sushi were also served along with soup, green salad, potato salad, pickle and gobo. Touch screen order system works efficiently.
A. S.
Loved the food just a little expensive
L. N.
Crowded and expensive. If you come after 6pm, forget it! You will be wait in a line of km of people. Despite the popularity, the food is too small compared to what you have to pay. You will leave the restaurant hungry after spending $50/person.
D. M.
The food was wonderful and the staff were friendly, what makes this restaurant different to some other Japanese restaurants is the atmosphere and style. Sitting inside is better than at the bar because you have more room to eat and sit.
S. M.
This is my 'happy place', fresh, fast and friendly! Ohhh and the sake cart is just icing on top of a reliably enjoyable meal. I really love the scallops and lotus root chips!
C. W.
It's a lot better than it used to be, not sure if the owner/owners were just too busy with other projects/stores. New menu and a refreshed decor really help in bringing this place back up to to the place I used to frequent on my commute home
T. W.
With all the neon lights and lanterns, you could be forgiven if you thought you were in Japan. While ordering from an iPad isn't a novelty anymore, they do have a great selection of Sake and Shochu that's worth checking out. There is also a Sake trolley that makes its rounds through the restaurant, if you aren't sure about any of it, just ask for a taste. The food is fresh and cooked to order, you'll find the usual sushi, sashimi and grilled dishes on the menu. This place gets very busy during meal times so be prepared to queue up, but once seated the food comes pretty quickly.
J. B.
Although we waited a while to get in, the wait was well worth it! Enjoyed every moment of dining here. Great ordering system. Friendly staff and most importantly food was delicious!
A. P.
Really nice decor - vibrant and full of funky japanese signs, makes you feel like you're in tokyo. The food comes out relatively quick, price isnt too bad. The service is decent but could do with more workers running the floor.
R. B.
Food is ok not great for the high price, the music is hideous 80's muzac and way to loud, the tables are very small but that's kind of authentic. Ordering by tablet on the table is convenient and service is nice and fast
W. B.
Wow what a great Japanese restaurant. Great service, beautiful food, convenient tablets on every table for ordering and a nice atmosphere. Well worth the visit if your in the area.
R. T.
Good Japanese food, original to order through iPad.
R. H.
Nice Japanese Izakaya in the middle of the city. Good selections of foods and alcoholic drinks. The waitress is very friendly and the foods are quite tasty. Recommended!
S. L.
If youve ever been to a Japanese Izakaya you'll find a familiar atmosphere here. Great vibes, fast and friendly staff. I highly reccommend the Omlette Rice as it comes in a huge portion and the eggs are very fluffy.
T. B.
Delicious! They have an order system through a tablet, which is really modern, and the food is delicious, as good as what you'd get if you went to Japan.
Careful though, they only accept cash.
M. N.
Tucked away at the back of Regent place next to the cinemas the discreet location off the main street adds to the atmosphere. It feels as if you're at a Japanese lane way restaurant. The service is super friendly. Ordering from an iPad works efficiently. There's a wide selection of sake served hot or cold. The menu is good value. From udon, gyozas, tempura, sashimi and sushi to desserts and drinks there's something on the menu for everyone.
J. H.
Went there yesterday with a friend. Small restaurant with a good vibe. Cheap cocktails in Sydney, but the food was expensive. All small portion size and was between $15 - $25 per portion. Lovely place for an after-work drink.
J. L.
I’ve never experienced such authentic Japanese food like this before. This is beyond wonderful. Both customer service and the food were absolutely magnificent!
T. L.
A bit pricey but totally worth it. Super fresh sashimi and sushi (especially scallops ). Fried rice's very tasty too. Wagyu beef is a bit overpriced imo. Very friendly staffs and excellent atmosphere.
J. B.
Not sure what happened but the quality has gone down in many aspects. I don’t think I’ll be returning. (2 stars)
I did return a few years later and they are much better. The food and service quality has vastly improved.
D. T.
The closest thing to perfection this side of the equator. Yebisu have executed a truly respectable Japanese experience right in the middle of Chinatown. We were tentative about the centralised location; the flyer-girl; and the half-floor elevator to get us into the restaurant. But, won over by the first dish - generous slices of fresh, delicious sashimi. Curry cheese takoyaki, raw tuna hand roll. Spicy chicken karaage so juicy and succulent I forgot everything about last week's korean fried chicken. A broad selection of sake for each tastem green tea ice cream to wash it all down. And to top it all off, Japanese service. It was like I had not left Japan.
M. B.
Arrived to very friendly staff. Ordering frtom the touch screen was novel. Food was great and beer was cheap. Couldn't fault service or flavour. presentation was immaculate.
A. M.
Love this place for casual dining and drinks when I travel to Sydney. Wide selection of beer and sake. Order through the iPads - sushi, sashimi, yakitori, rice and noodles. Don't forget green tea ice cream for dessert.
I. I.
Food is nothing special. Service is poor. Try to order something with that ipad, when it is fixed at the table in the awkward position. Not so comfortable. Overall, I do not think we'll come back.
It is ok, other similar japanese places are better.
W. F. E.
The earl gray creme brulee was tasty but it had a honey skin crackle which seem to take away from the actual taste of the earl gray. I'm indifferent actually about that dessert. I would consider ordering it again maybe on another night.
Don't even bother with the ice cream with donut balls. It was not tasty. Fail. Medium Fail (not epic fail).
I'll have to come back here and try some of the non-dessert food.
D. J.
Another hidden gem in Sydney! If you wish to experience an autherntic Japanese ambiance while dining, try this awesome place. Ordering is a breeze, just tap your order on their provided iPad and wait for it to be served, pretty nice ei? They have an excellent variety of sake for your drinking pleasure, they'll even ring a bell when you order one.
M. A.
Good food, quick automated ordering through simple iPad menu. Reasonable value and great fun. Best experience with small parties (2-3) at the counter.
F.
The grilled octopus is my fav and worth it, and they serve some nice noodle soups as well. Sashimi are pretty good too although not the main reason I go there.
C. L.
Great spot for a better than average suit down lunch - really good clean flavours, comprehensive menu. Touch screen. Nice staff.
u.
Dinning at YI is sort of a gimmick, some days they might get the food right, but not on my visit. The place has a good energy and concept but failed to deliver on taste.
Full review and photos on my blog.
V. “.
Good food and average price. Generally has a long line so should try to be there early before 6. If you order any alcohol, bells will ring!
J. B.
Excellent Yakitori style Japanese food. IPad ordering system is fun! Little bit pricey but the food and fast service makes up for it.
C. E.
Awesome place good food , good service. The man suggested sake tasting it was awesome haha. Will be back
D. T. b.
cool place to grab a bite to eat. food is nice and service is fast. quite fun ordering through the tablet that is at the table. try the cocktails too!
K. K.
Located in Regent Place in the centre of the city, walking in the restaurant makes you feel like you're in the middle of Tokyo. Food was disappointing... had the grilled chicken skin and it was nothing like the ones in Japan, just plain fat and chewy...
M. B.
Great food, service and menu. Good selection of sushi, yakatori and sides. They also have Suntory Premium Malts!
S. P.
another japanese izakaya joint with the new self ordering system. food was average but i find the service and decoration very unique. long queue as always for new establishment. worth the try
H. K. H.
I love to eat here casually
Food is delicious and fast
One of my favorite places as it's easy, yum and they have a large variety
Make sure you ring the sake bell
S. P.
Had the wagu hamburger bento box for lunch. This was very tasty.
O. O.

S. G.
Friendly staff 5/5, fast service 5/5, food was of a high standard 4/5, atmosphere pleasant 4/5, price reasonable 4/5. Would definitely go back 😊.
W. Y.
The menu outside is a bit deceiving. They have a lunch and dinner menu which I didnt realise. I wanted most of the things from the dinner menu such as yakatori and takoyaki and only realised I couldnt get it when I was going through their tablet menu. The lunch menu was ok but nothing special.
J. Z.
Great food! Regular favourite!
R. V. K.
Excellent food. Excellent atmosphere. Fills up quickly. Won't take booking for less than 6 people
C. R.
One of the best places in Sydney for Japanese food. Fresh, delicious and authentic. Great range of Sake too!
L.
The food here is great, I loved the BBQ pork and Chicken salad. Apparently it's pretty close to a Japanese dining experience.
A. H.
A hidden gem restaurant...variety of choices of delicious Japanese food. Tasty and good presentation. Very happy...will be back... 👍
M. H.
Great atmosphere, great drunk menu, food is also above average. Can be a bit busy but you would want that in an Izakaya.
N. G.
Nice food, some weird 30 minimal spend pp. I would think any spend would be good in this climate??
G. F.
Yummy!! Great food. Quick service and the service was friendly. Food came out quick and it did it disappoint. I highly recommend this place if you are seeing a movie in the city and look for a bite to eat after?
M. K.
Their lunch special is good value! Fresh ingredients and nice vibe.
L. d.
Very fast and friendly service, the wagyu beef skewers are cooked very well and the sashimi is very fresh. Only thing is everything is abit overpriced.
C. C.
Big great portions, great price, very clean place, fast service, gentle staff and good location. Fresh flavors
C. G.
Food is always fresh, tasty, and quick - if you can get in before the queue this place is always a good time.

Very good as always. A bit pricey but it is in the city so generally prices are a bit more expensive anyway.
H. J.
Delicious Japanese food at a reasonable price. Service is pretty efficient as well.
M. A.
I have never had a bad experience here , the food is exceptional. The staff are friendly and the menu is well priced.
k. d.
Japanese restaurant, I chose it because they had a selection of a few different Japanese beers to enjoy with your meal. Order using an iPad and things magically arrive :-)
B. P.
Legit yakitori experience in Sydney. Good selection of food and drinks and you you order in the quintessential Japanese style of automated tablet.
D. J. C.

Authentic Japanese Izakaiya in the heart of Sydney's CBD. As close to the real thing as you can get without traveling to Japan.
H. M.
Came here many times with my friends, fresh food and many kind of beer for choice, Good atmosphere for hanging up with friends.
A. S.
Good food but pay $19 for yakitori with a chicken skin and gizzard. Seriously?

This well-decorated izakaya offers a huge range of food and drinks, conveniently order-able via the mobile device on each table. The food is of good quality but definitely on the expensive side compared to other Japanese restaurants.
One cool gimmick here is the alcohol cart that goes around the restaurant. A staff member will offer free samples of numerous brands of sake for promotional purposes.
