Comments of Old Fernvale Bakery Cafe & Takeaway.............The Old Fernvale Bakery
T. L.
First time here and was amazed by how good just a simple beef and mushroom pie was. I was so tempted to get another one but this large pie priced at only $6.75(?) started filling me up. Can’t wait until next time to go back and try other flavours. Wished I knew this place earlier though as it was well worth the 50 min drive.
M. F.
Amazing selection of pies and other baked goods (sweet and savoury) plenty of tables to sit and eat, as well as parking if you want to take your stuff to go.
F. W. (. b. D.
Beautiful place with yummy looking food. It was really popular and on this day the line-up was a bit long for the time we had available but we'll definitely be back to dine in at the very quaint cafe.
A. P.
One of the best bakery. You will get a variety of pies, pastries, cakes and baked breads. Superb one. The employees are friendly. Road work is happening now at the front of the bakery but still have a good parking space at the other side of bakery. The best thing I found is that they have a separate entry and exit , a good rest room, a separate lot of stuffs kept outside which is the remainings of the day before baked breads at a reduced price.
Will go back to this place again.

What a breath of fresh 'country' air this bakery and the owners are. After a long ride and in need of refreshments and a kind encouraging word, we certainly got all that from Bill and Lyn at the Fernvale Bakery. Absolutely loved the finger bun and croissants and if I didn't have to continue on a bike, I would have taken a few of the delicious looking pies home. Thank you for a wonderful experience.
J. G.
We stopped here for lunch. Suggest you try this option as the pie shop down the street is always so crowded. We ate outside in the back garden which is well shaded under a big tree and has a nice atmosphere. There is a good selection of delicious food on the menu. Staff are friendly. Toilets are clean and well presented. Great place for kids.

If you seriously love savory pies, then you'll seriously love the Old Fernvale Bakery. No kidding, I drove an hour just to see if they lived up to "best pies in Australia" title, and I'd do it again in a heartbeat. Every mouth watering bite was an absolute delight! I guarantee you won't be disappointed!
K. L.
Had a fabulous early lunch at the cafe today with friends. Got a Steak, bacon & cheese pie w/ chips and salad and an iced chocolate. Pie had massive chunks of steak and loads of bacon, Drinks made by Chloe were top notch 👌 Fantastic fast service even when it was a little busy. Can't wait to come back
S. D.
Gorgeous bakery off the beaten track but with a well worn path to it's door. We had a lovely afternoon relaxing in the garden. The pies and sweets were amazing.
The Cafe itself has a very olde worlde charm to it.
C. B.
Delicious food, but unfortunately the customer service is left to be desired. Both occasions we visited, we were met with extremely unhappy service, and extra charges placed on top of our order. The menu price did not match the sale price going through. There was also a few flies crawling over the baked goods.
Otherwise, best jam doughnut, pies and pasties!!!
R. M.
Two words: one word: epic.
That's it. That's all that needs to be said. The best pies I've had in Australia, no question.
I have ridden my bike from Brisbane to get one, that's how good they are.
Go. Eat. Enjoy. Get another one.
G. L. (. B. D.
Fantastic service, polite helpful. Never rushed us to make a decision.. ( 7yo and 12yo makes that job interesting).
As for the Pies.. AMAZING. Everything I remember from Nanna's home home country pies.
Seriously don't just drive through Fernvale, STOP and taste the pie!
r. W.
Fantastic bakery. Stopped here on a road trip. Great huge pie's very tasty only problem was trying to decide what to eat.
So many pie's and yummy sweet things to eat. Will definitely be back. YUM YUM YUMMY
M. A.
Lovely spot under the trees in the court yard...The bakery next door and this cafe are linked.
Very popular with travellers and locals alike, especially during weekends and holidays.
S. S.
You are guaranteed a massive pie with REAL meat and a selection to blow your mind!!!
I'd say the only drawback may be that someone else has bought the last of the flavour you're looking for. But, Fear Not my humble pie lovers. They're bound to have the flavour you're looking for frozen!!!!! I have to add. They do tend to have a light seasoning, (salt) but lift the lid and sprinkle to lift the lovely flavours if you're like me and perspiration drains your reserves on the job. Enjoy!!!!
s. m.
Great pies with plenty of good filling.
When you order a mushroom and steak pie here you get plenty of both.
Quite a surprise after some of the inferior stuff some sell to you
No wonder you have won awards.
Well done .
M. A.
Hands down the best pie I have eaten to this date. Generous content, crispy pastry and spot on spices.
I would highly recommend the curry pie if you'd like a bit of heat and a lot of flavour.
We had to queue up and the restaurant is very popular. Service was speedy and well managed.
The location is also great. Being on the side of a relatively busy highway and also in a town which attracts a lot of cyclists and hikers for Brisbane Valley Rail Road.
R. S.
Massive and tasty Australian style meat pie. I was impressed with chunky meats inside pies and rich flavour. Pies are quite crunchy on the outside but not oily at all, so you may be able to eat them forever. Worth visiting here.
J. x. K.
Awesome healthy steak sandwich and tasty pie. The owner Bill was so friendly and attentive. He really cares about his patrons. Great experience!
S. A.
Wow, this business is great and worth the drive from Brisbane. Staff are terrific and pies are just as good. My pie was the size of a bread and butter plate. The owners should be very proud.
a. m.
Magnificent, best pies I've had, well worth the money, my Chunky beef n mushroom and Chunky Curried Pie was to die for, we always stop their when passing through 5*
J. W.
Awesome selection and quality food. Best pies ever had.
A. K.
1- The decoration was very cosy and I loved it.
2- Their pies were the best ever pies I ever had in Australia.
However, there are different aspects of this cafe and bakery.
1- one staff behaved not good. Maybe she was tired.
2- I had to remind them to bring my cake.
3- coffee was normal, similar to other coffees.
B. L.
The pie was pretty decent in terms of size, wasn't anything super brilliant but also was not even close to being a let down you know? I had a cottage pie and it was a solid 6/10. Though I did get a caramel tart and it was banging!
D. S.
Best food. Staff were amazing. Was busy, but still went out of their way to accomodate our request. Pleasant experience.
N. s. S.
Old is Gold #antique stuff on wall# Absolutely loved discovering this local favorite! Noticed it by seeing so many customers leave happy with their purchases.
S. C.
This bakery is the real deal. Great selection of pies, although do not expect to just pick 1 and assume they have it. This isn't a knock on them though. They have over 100 pies they make and every time I've been there they've always delivered
D. S.
Tried the Chicken Bacon & Cheese pie.
Tasty quality ingredients, but frustratingly messy to eat, as I imagine trying to eat a bag of soup. Certainly not something you can eat while driving (as a pie should be). Base needed to be a bit firmer/drier, & filling needs to be a little drier. Take a plate & cutlery or you'll regret it.
However, I will be back to try some of the game meat pies (Croc, Roo, Camel, etc), but next time I'll be prepared with plate & cutlery.

NOSTALGIC CAFE AND BAKERY
This is a great place to stop for a coffee, cold drink, snack or a meal. The complex is full of nostalgic artifacts from an era gone by. The bakery here has been famous for it's produce for as long as I can remember. It has indoor and outdoor seating area available and the outdoor seating area is dog friendly. The coffee was great, the beer cold and the meal tasty and enjoyable. There is a large carpark out the back of the complex. The complex is easily accessible to wheelchairs and walkers. The indoor area is air conditioned but it was just as comfortable sitting outside underneath the shady trees. It was 38 degrees Celsius when we arrived.
S. K.
They were out of the minted lamb pie, so I tried the gravy which didn’t have much taste, my partner had the curry pie which was really nice! Also got an apple slice which was classic style and yum.
G. H.
Has and always will be the first place to grab a pie or sandwich in fernvale, great selection to choose from and the staff are 2nd to none. Nice park across the road aswell to enjoy that taste pie.
L. H.
Friendly staff. Beautiful selection of sweets, hot foods, desserts, breads etc 🍰🍩🎂🍞🥖 We ate our plain and curry pies in three car before heading home and have brought some delicious looking treats home to share with the kids for afternoon tea and even got a GF pie and plain pie for my parents for their dinner tonight.😋😋
Will definitely pop in next time we are out your way
T. N.
I have been visiting Old Fernvale Bakery for a couple of years now and am impressed every time. Their food is to die for and would highly recommend. I do not live locally and travel a little over an hour just to have a pie and chocolate eclair.
D. A. (.
Helping the In laws move out here has been quite tiring work.
The upside to being out in the sticks is this beautiful Bakery.
I have been twice this week and haven't been disappointed.
The staff are wonderful, cakes and food delicious!
I recommend a chocolate thickshake if You're after a sweet drink.
I haven't had a chance to have a pie but that's ok, I will be back. 😊
E. K.
If you are confused by the two seemingly-different-looking locations in the photos, it's because there is an oldschool bakery side and a cafe side separated by an outdoor eating area.
The pies really are good - I ended up having one for lunch and another one for dinner while staying overnight doing the BVRT. The steak and mushroom pie was packed full of... steak and mushroom - no skimping on fillings there. It isn't overly salty like some other pies too. I didn't need any tomato sauce to balance it out - it was just nice as-is.
They open at 5am which is fantastic for early starters, and the coffee is great.
If I'm not mistaken the lady who served me last night was the same lady who served me at 5.30am today. Hats off to her if it was!
l. r.
Great steak and kidney pies. The family liked the huge sausage rolls but they were a bit spicy for the kids
S. G.
Absolutely amazing. The food we had was brilliant. So tasty. The staff are fantastic (even when we spulled something on the floor ). No stress, no fuss and always smiling. Do yourself a favour and have the Pepper Steak. My tastes are still singing its praise.
B. W.
The food is really delicious!! There are always crowd in this small shop, but thanks to plenty of staffs here, don’t need to wait for too long.
We tried the pie and understood why it was so popular immediately! The pie skin was really soft and delicious !
We will love to come back and try other stuffs on the menu next time !
J. P.
Great people. So nice to have happy service even if I'm only buying a pie and a coffee.
M. A.
Very tasty pies! Crazy selection available but make sure you’re there earlier in the day as they do run out
G. M.
Lovely quaint eatery. Need to be careful which building you go to. One is take away and bakery, the other is eat in. Nice and cool on a hot day. Big selection of food. Serves not particularly fast, staff helpful and friendly.
D. B.
A very busy shop. Lots of selections for bread, slices, cakes and pies. A great stop for the hungry traveller. Lots of sitting areas to enjoy your snacks.
D. A.
A very popular place for locals and visitors alike. Enjoyed the sausage roll so went back the next day for a steak pie. Well staffed so even though it was busy the wait wasn't long.
J. T.
Great friendly service with good humour and charm.
I will return as the food was great and so was the coffee.
R. D.
This has to be one of the best pie shops I have visited. They claim 120 pies, including a "Yowie" pie, I didn't try it. I will definately stop there again next time I travel though Fernvale.
F. C.
The staff were beautiful, although a bit later in the afternoon (1.30pm) so not many of choices available which was a little sad. The pies were very tasty as was the apple turnover.
I will say they are a bit overpriced but good all the same and the staff friendliness made the price worth it.
I am also medically exempt and went in without a mask. I had zero problems at all. I was treated like my sister who was masked which was very well.
S. O.
I am giving this place an average of 3. I would rate the food a 5, but the service a 1. We have now given this place a crack 3 times, thinking the previous poor service must surely have been a one off. Now however, I can say it's not just a bad day, it has been consistently disorganised on 3 seperate occasions. Today we waited 40 minutes for a pie with peas and mashed potato, when it was in the pie warmer and ready to go. The cafe was mainly empty and we were told we'd missed the "rush". Had to follow up our order (yep, they couldn't find it). Then it came out with no cutlery and had to follow that up as well and got it about 10 minutes later when the food was getting cold. Nice people, just disorganised, poor ordering systems, staff doing multiple jobs and no one knowing what anyone else is doing or has done. Sign up when you come in saying "wait to be seated", but then no one comes to seat you and you just stand there wondering what is going on. We eventually wandered around and found our own table. The people in front of us were equally confused by the entire process. As people were coming in the door staff could not distinguish between who was eat in and who was takeaway. People entering the venue from 2 different entrances and only one till available and staff not knowing who was there first in which queue. It shouldn't be this hard. Some basic changes would make it operate far more efficiently. Don't do takeaway from the eat in cafe when there is already a separate shop for takeaway next door. Only have patrons order from one area. Have one person on the till who can keep track of what's happening. Forget about "wait to be seated" if you don't have sufficient staff. Put the menu out the front on full display so people can figure out what they want before they come in, instead of not seeing a menu till they are at the front of the queue and need to order. People come in and order, get a number and find their own table. Have the cutlery all prepared in packets at the register and you hand people their cutlery with their table number when they order. Shame that we won't go back there when the food is yum and the staff are actually nice. Would like to support a small business, but it shouldn't be that hard.

Beautiful rustic decor and friendly service. Hollandaise sauce on sourdough one of the best we’ve had. Pancakes not so much. Great coffee. Lovely place to spend a few hours with your people!
T. B.
Quality pies at a decent price. Huge variety and selection to choose from. Drinks cakes and other assorted bakery items. Friendly staff and clean tidy premises. Tables and chairs to sit and eat at.
E. T.
I drive from Brisbane to Fernvale at least every 3 months for a pie at Fernvale Bakery. I’ve driven all along the eastern seaboard and this place has had the best pies.
The pastry is perfect. The texture of the gravy is perfect and is firm when you grab it to eat. The pie is filled with generous chunks of meat.
My go-to pie shop and a must try for anyone who loves pies.
L. S. (.
Stopped by here on the way back home from The spit lake somerset ib the evening. Wow wow wow. Havent had a really good pie in ages think they mite even be better then yatala pies. Tried the honey soy chicken & plain mince pie so flavourful you know its good when u dont need to add sauce. And the brownies were so gooey on the inside. So keen to try their other flavours.
M. H.
Amazing selection of pies and deserts. They seem to have more flavours than listed. Very flavorful with real meat. Compares well with Yatala pies, pastry is less flaky and holds together better, easier to eat.
T. S.
Dropped in for Breakfast after some real estate viewing. Great friendly service, quick food delivery, top food (Aussie Breakfast and Vanilla Slice) and good coffee. All this in a cool little courtyard with just the right amount of sun to enjoy the dining experience.
S. D.
Huge range of pies and cakes. I have never had a bad pie here. Bonus is the coffee is great as well.
R. S.
We had visited this bakery years ago and decided to call in again. The pies we purchased were great and we were able to eat them at their outdoor tables. If it wasn't so far away we would go there regularly.
D. S.
Damn good meat pie. Had the 350g minced steak. Nice gravy, not too fatty, just the right temperature and the pastry held together for the whole experience.
s. m.
The best sausage rolls ever. Nice moist with fluffy pastry and taste to die for. I would highly recommend that if you are in the area you have to stop in and try the food...yum yum yum
A. T.
They Sell Awesome Pies, especially there Chicken, N Vege ... That's 1 of My Favourites, ... My Husband, Troy's is the Beef, N Bacon Pie ... They have Very nice bottom as well, it's Soft, N Chewy ... As Well, it is quite Cheap, for the Size of it...
J. S.
Great selection of pies to choose from along with many other choices of cakes, breads etc. Really glad we stopped and had a break before heading home to the GC.
C. C.
Its worth the wait.
We arrived to see a line up of people, which moved really fast and the amazingly friendly staff are there to help. They guide you through swiftly with relaxed, friendly, country vibe which I was totally digging.
Pro Tip: Know what pie you want but try a dessert. Your favourite dessert from your childhood is likely to be there, the Iced VoVo is amazing (mouth is watering while I think about it).
D. J.
My favourite spot to pop in to when passing through Fernvale. Love the food, especially their cakes. My sweet tooth rejoices every time I'm there 😄
H. D.
A 10/10 must stop bakery every time we come to wivehoe dam.
L. P.
We had a gr8 time yummy food,, lovely staff!!!🤩
j. m.
Friendly staff, huge range of pies and once we had our pie for lunch we went back into the bakery and bought 6 more pies to take home!! Can't beat a good, tasty pie!! YUM!
A. P.
The food wasn't too bad, but 30 mins wait for a ginger beer (pre bottled mind you) seems a little lengthy. The food took 45 minutes to arrive, and it wasn't super busy inside due to physical distancing requirements... not sure why it took so long. If there is a fairly non standard wait time, it should be mentioned by staff at the start because at least then you've set the expectation. The young staff member who brought out our food kinda of just stood there with it in his hands and said "I don't know what is what...". Unfortunately we didn't get to try their pies or baked goods because the line at that building was fairly long too. Oh well! Would I come here again? Not for the sit down cafe - but probably to their bakery next door to try it out.
M. S.
We stopped there for some pies which were huge and delicious. Certainly would recommend
s. d.
Ordered the big breakfast and thats exactly what we got! It was lovely too.
The shop itself is a treasure trove of bits and bobs. You could spend hours looking around you. Great service and very clean.
K. R.
Fresh, delicious good. The salad rolls are incredible, the sausage rolls are big (maybe too big for one person 😝) and the donuts are tasty. Staff have improved & are doing a great job with COVID-19 restrictions. It's a great place to stop when driving through Fernvale or travelling on the BVH.
C. C.
Decided to drive out to Fernvale to get some pies from the bakery, When I asked for cold pies to take away the lass serving got a bit lost. However I got four takeaway pies in the end. Have just had a beef pie and it was one of the best pies I have had for years, rose up nicely in the oven and turned a lovely honey shade, but the best part was eating it. Big chunks of beef in a rich gravy with nice crispy pastry, honestly I had trouble finishing it as it was so generous. To sum up a very good pie and highly recommended.
J. S.
Great pies and pasties, pies in particular have chunks of meat in them not as processed as you would get in a lot of other bakeries A+. Does get busy on the weekends though.
L. K.
I heard on the radio that these guys had gluten free pies and sausage rolls and I had to go. I loved my Gluten free chicken and vegetable pie and the sausage roll. My husband had the venison pie and he wasn't too happy with it's flavour but I was wrapped.
M. C.
We had two pies at the cafe for late lunch. Yummy so we bought two more pies and a slice of apple pie take away. Customer service was very friendly. The only downside is that the slice of take away apple pie sliced freshly from the whole pie after I ordered is a bit of small for 5 dollars from my point of view. Maybe I should buy that whole pie :P
N. B.
Had my best pies ever. Steak Mince has the medal for a reason🙂. Nice staff, and beautiful sorroundings.
L. J.
Best fresh cakes and pastries! Great food options and at a good price!
The atmosphere is amazing! Highly recommend
S.
Freshly baked and delicious pies. One of the best I’ve ever had. Only criticism would be the queuing system upon entering. You’re rushed to place an order as soon as you enter when you haven’t really had a chance to visually see the baked items.
M. F.
This is the best pie I can find in the Brisbane area. 100% recommend here.
B. J.
This bakery is a great little country bakery. Great staff, excellent foods !! We got a chunky steak and beef, bacon n cheese.. both were quality !! Fun place
T. W.
Pies are good, well priced, but not sure they live up to all the hype.
Limited sweets selection.
Friendly, efficient staff.
G. M.
Awesome pies, and sausage rolls.
The service was pretty quick, and there was only a 6 group waiting line outside.
M. J.
Really great old fashioned attentive service, the food is excellent, lovely dining experience inside with the historic memorabilia and the outside shady garden area.
The rustic old truck is a lovely entry to the bakery cafe`.
R. P.
Popped in late on a Sunday arvo and they even had a pretty good selection of pies. Plenty of seats inside and out. Great stop in from the way way from work. Chips and gravy were outstanding!
p.
Can’t drive past without pulling in for a pie. Seriously, these are the best pies!
P. P.
Only had their coffee and cakes, tasted pretty good. It was so busy on a Sunday, but service was still good. Nice place with some character.
h. d.
Delicious pies, lovely staff, perfect desserts! Thank you!
K. W.
Great food and service. Amanda brings a warm welcome to new and old faces. They have over 100 pie flavours but you need to get in early otherwise they will have sold out. Their cakes are divine.
P.
I've been to the bakery twice recently and in none of this time they had vegetarian options for pies. I was disappointed.
J. D.
Obviously highly sort after venue..excellent bakery, seating available next door to eat the goodies...very pleasant atmosphere...
T. W.
Bakery has amazing food. Sausage roll was dry today, but nice caramel cappuccino was a very n ice way to cool off
J. O.
Huge meat pie. Great service, friendly staff.
M. T.
Great pies and cakes. Good stopover on your way thru the Somerset Region. Only downside is the lack of a safe point to cross the highway to get at all these yummy baked goods. Fantastic park opposite to enjoy your snack. Wander over to the adjacent Fernvale Futures Centre to pick up tourist information on the region.
C. P.
Not local and it’s our first time but it won’t be the last time that’s for sure!
What a delicious big portion of grilled Barra we have just eaten!!! Polite staff, cosy shop and excellent customer service.
J. P.
GREAT choice of food & service 100 % & greatest pies to take home !! THANK you GUYS
J. B.
We enjoyed having lunch at the bakery, partaking of one of their famous pies!
M. D.
The sheer number of pies available is awe inspiring in itself. You can find almost any filling you could think off. Unfortunately, the venison pie was out of stock (went here specifically for that one) but settled on an emu pie.
The filling was delicious - one of the tastiest I've had. My only issue with the food was the pie's casing. I found it to be quite dry and the pie had a high crust-to-filling ratio leaving the experience as a whole quite mediocre. This could absolutely be a personal preference issue!
The staff were friendly in the short time I was there and the prices are what you would expect for an award winning shop.
Switched from 3* to 4* after thinking back. I'd recommend this place if you're in the area but I wouldn't say it's worth travelling for specifically.
H. W.
Seriously one of the biggest burgers we found in Australia. Be careful when ordering, you will have your work out for you. But very tasteful and worth the effort 😋. Gf options with decent buns. Stop reading and get yourself a burger!
C. J.
Fantastic food especially the pies the coffee is great the hospitality is good and for a busy place that workers keep a smiley face.

Stopped in for a smoko break my custard tart was mint but the misso had a croissant not got at all she wasn't impressed soz guys but it is what it is
A. P.
Normally get something from here once a week. Large verity to choose from. Standard price for a pie. Also have deserts and breads. Latly I have been trying to go through the menu. Have been dissatisfied with some flavours, but it is not a typical flavours I would pick.
Customer service is friendly.
They have always remained open through covid, but do have social distance rules when applicable.
P. S.
Wonderful spot and cafe. The ambience decor is full of conversation starters and quite contemplations while you soak in the details. I stayed only for a very short while but will return again for sure.
R. C.
Stopped in on the way for a dip at twin bridges great service and the pies and sausage rolls yummy
J. G.
Great range of pies, very tasty options.
Pies are larger than most others.
A. G.
A bit pricey but always happy with whatever I buy from there. Awesome pies.
R. S.
The good wife had seen this bakery voted as one of the best around however we were less than overwhelmed. It was good, but not great. They claimed having 120 flavours but when we enquired, it was about 7 attempts before we picked one that was available. The party was a bit thick and flaky however the thick pastry was handy while driving as it held together well in one hand. But overall, it was just a good pie.
J. E.
That brownie.... words cannot describe how amazing it was. Pies are also amazing, but dang that brownie....
D. W.
An excellent venue, great food (including Gluten Free options), great Service and amazingly interesting decor! Well done!
R. T.
So much atmosphere. Great meaty pies. I highly recommend.
B. T.
Large selection of pies, cakes, slices and bread. All baked fresh.
B. C.
Popular place on the weekend with a queue out front… queue moves pretty fast though
Pies are massive and a huge variety to pick from.. chunky beef was one of the best pies I’ve eaten.. pastry crumb is top notch
Cream donuts are spectacular as well - all too good - roll me out of here 😊
C. H.
Have been through Fernvale a few times for work coming from Brisbane. We stop every time we come through for a pie. Have tried the steak mince and emu pie and both were delicious. Would recommend for sure.
D. T.
The Old Fernvale Bakery know how to make a great pie. I didn't know there was a cafe for dining in so took opportunity to check out their pies. Delishious and filling. Great value.
j. w.
Pies are full of meat came hot the ones we had for lunch and took some home for dinner nice treat
B. L.
Nice atmosphere and nice staff. Great range of products.
N.
Very nice people behind the counter. Good variety of very yummy pies. The steak and mushroom is to die for. Nice outside area to sit and relax. Will definitely stop by again.
R.
Pies were good. Large, buttery pastry. Had some weird meats, camel, emu, croc.
Server was spacey. Literally halfway through the order she was like "sorry I wasn't listening" then still had to repeat my order multiple times. The order was 3 pies.
E. T.
Great place for Hamburger and a spider.staff very friendly.the memorbelia brought back old memories of days gone.we will be back
S. W.
Delicious pies , and apple turnovers, and they don't cover them all with fake cream.
C. A.
I love their meat pies! Great place to hang out as well!
p. k.
Have been going here for years. As a new couple then with children and now as a older couple. Many good memories and great food. Worth the trip.
F. G.
They are good pies...decent size and somewhat tasty...are they the best pies?...debatable!!
M. B.
Wonderful pies but the Apple Charlotte, wow, never have I had anything like this before and I've been to Paris, Patisserie Capital, what a beautiful little pastry treat. I will certainly be driving way out of my way to come back for more of these, best bakery item I have ever had. I can't wait to get more to serve to friends when they come over for coffee.
S. C.
I have limited mobility troubles and walk with a walker, they were very understanding about me needing the walker in store even with the store being small, I got a chocolate muffin and it was one of the yummiest muffins I've ever had
O. X.
Extremely overpriced for what you get. Lovely little spot to catch up and chill out but make sure you take out a second mortgage to pay for your meal.
V. C.
I checked my timeline and I found that on average I get here every 6 months. I always try a different pie and have a taste of my wife’s pie every time I get here. Each pie I have seem to be better than the one before. Sometimes you have to wait in a long queue. But you have to expect that when you’re visiting one of the best pie shops.
M.
Over 120 pies but looked on the list and asked for our pies and they definitely didn't even have over 30. All of our pies were delicious but the steak bacon cheese pie wasn't any better than home brand frozen ones from Coles
S. C.
Too many varieties of the common pie and pasties...could not get a plain pasties. Tasty but I have enjoyed better.
J. D.
Always enjoy the pies here. It was very busy. A well run business.
A. B.
As we live locally my wife and I have been here quite often. Everything we have had has been top quality. I would recommend to stop on in for a meal, pie, coffee and if you have a sweet tooth there's plenty to choose from.
C. W.
Yummy bread, yummy food, great outdoor dining area. The pies are delicious, (but my wife's pies are better). We really enjoy coming out here for a feed. Quite close to Brissie. It's a good stop if you want to drive over the mountains back to the city :)
EDIT: Response to Fernvale - my wife makes her pies from scraps ;)
A. W.
Beautiful pies - just out of stock of a number of them! Purely due to high traffic, so can't be too mad about it!
K. P.
I have been coming to this coffee shop for about 14 years. We love the food and the coffee. The staff are also great and helpful. This is a great watering hole to catch up with bikers. Alway a great stop while on a ride. Recommend it people.
C. J.
Best gluten-free pie of ever had they could have been hotter
C.
Good variety of pies including roo, camel, yowie
M. H.
Great Meals, Friendly Staff. Wonderful Outdoor Area to sit
J. F.
Best pies I've ever tried! Friendly staff and lovely owner. I love the seafood pie and lamb and mint pie. I live in Brisbane and I like hiking around the area. Next time I go hiking I'll definitely come here. Totally recommended.
G. K.
I bought a pepper pie and it tasted more of onion than pepper. I also found the pastry too heavy for my liking.
Filling was nice and chunky though.
c. c.
Stopped to get a teacake and apple pie to share with family. Yummy 😋
G. L.
Staff could use a bit of warmth but otherwise best pie I ever had.
S. C.
The pie's and deserts at the bakery are very nice and delicious and a very good size for your money ! The staff are very helpful with a pleasant professional attitude that will make you want to come back to the bakery time after time ! A very family orientated place to take your family for a special trip to get away for the day and you know that you are going to enjoy every minute while you are there ! 10/10 and 👍's up is my rating and once you go there it will be yours to !

We we for our Churches monthly Men's breakfast, the staff were amazing, Nothing was a problem for them they were friendly and you could see they were happy in there Job. Great coffee and an awesome Aussie big Breakfast there was so much food I could not eat all of it and I normally finish it of which ease at other places. So it was such a great experience all round. All the staff should be commended on the attention to details and there customers needs. We will be back next month. Great work team keep up the great work and remember keep smiling. God Bless you all.
M. W.
Amazing food and so much variety. Take your time and look at all the choices. Enjoy outside or at the park opposite the shop.
R. M.
Bit exy but good eating and coffee's good.
Have spoken to Bill.. whom assures me there was a mistake made by his staff. I which he would like to rectify for me!
Very easy guy to discuss an issue with and very eager to make sure things are as they're meant to be. Great place good people!
S. W.
Delicious pies and sweets! Don’t miss out! Thank you!
T. R.
As tradition has it, one must stop at this town when passing through and sample the fine bakery food and a nice cup of coffee. For many years I have been on Harley rides and this is the place to stop for a break. Plenty of outdoor tables to eat at, with the whole area kept clean. Staff are pleasant and always willing to assist. Plenty of parking outside visitor information centre. Big park opposite for children to play and eat your food.
A. C.
Friendly, helpful staff with an AWESOME quality bakery product
D. F.
Great coffee, delicious apple and custard Danish and excellent service. Very clean. 😊
M. N.
Good pies but very long line.
P. B.
Our stop off shop for fresh hot pies.and sweet goodies.
S. P.
Very friendly staff and a good old country bakery atmosphere. The apple rhubarb crumble tart, pull apart and low GI bread loaf was very nice. Will def stop over again on my next visit.
K. K.
Very busy today -Easter Sunday! Pies lovely! We usually eat in their open air court yard but chose to sit at the picnic tables in the park.
K. C.
Absolutely the best pies you will ever taste, & the rainbow bread is awesome 💙❤💛💚
R. L.
Awesome pie mash peas n gravy to take out over the road in the park with kids very nice pit stop.
r. s.
It is an excellent place to stop for a meal. It has avery good selection of pies to select from as well as other menu items.
At Easter they bake various flavoured hot cross buns. The buns are so popular that the bakery donates a sizeable donation to the Brisbane Children's Hospital each year.
R. S.
What a quaint country stop! My sausage roll was beautiful!
M. T.
Have eaten here many weekends over the years. Always yummy food and you get a lot on your plate. Keep it up guys. Today’s lunch was great as always. We drive 200k round trip to come out for our treat. It has been a few years and the food is still great
D. E.
Terrific place for meals and old world charm of yesteryear. Great meals and excellent service
C. B.
Thank you Bill (owner) for giving me the opportunity to speak to you about my experience at your bakery today. Your genuine concern and understanding was greatly appreciated and as a result my family and I will stop by some time to meet you.
D. E.
If you're passing through, you have to try one of the pies. They are fantastic. On weekends, the line can be long, but the staff are great and power through orders quickly
L. T.
Good service. The BEST TASTING PIES EVER worth a massive range to choose from. Fast service most days but incredibly crazy busy on weekends. Weekends you might have to wait in a line due to Covid-19 but it is definitely worth the wait. My favourite pie is the Mint Lamb INCREDIBLE!
T. L.
Roast Pork pie and cheeseburger pie were delish.
Then we had some raspberry coconut slice and choc mint.
Also delish.
Definitely call in another day when over that way
v. j.
My first time there today meeting a close friend. My service and food was quite good. My friend arrived before me. When my coffee arrived he asked about his order, when my cake arrived he asked about his order again, then he flagged down another passing staff member to ask about his order... again. He repeated the order, had to ask for each component with each return visit to the table. It would have made a very funny comedy skit if it didn't involve depriving someone of caffeine and snacks. There were only a few tables occupied at the time, and his waiting was possibly made worse when he saw an apple turnover (which he had ordered) come out of the kitchen and then return while he was waiting.
H. T.
Im not a fan of donut, I dont like Donut king and even Krispy Donut but first time trying their donut and make me fall in love with it. Its worth for long drive to get their donut
M. H.
Lovely lunch. Great staff. Lovely place to look at old memorabilia
A. N.
Great variety and quality food , sorry I don't live near there or I would be a frequent customer.
I. S.
Honestly, the minted Lamb pie I had this afternoon was the BEST pie I've ever eaten.....and that's really saying something from a pie eater.
The Apple strudel was also a winner. Big enough for three people, but so good I had to eat it all myself.
This is without a doubt the best bakery in Australia. If you disagree you obviously haven't been to the Old Fernvale Bakery.
I. M.
Very great, love the sausage rolls.
S.
Service was decent but the pies were cold and tasteless. Will give another chance when passing through next
K. C.
Best pie, mushy peas, potato & gravy around. Pretty good home made iced coffee😄
T. L.
I was here at the bakery this arvo with my family, we drive here every year from Brisbane to visit the dam & to buy some baked goods. Normally the customer service like the food, is top notch. Today we felt we were singled out, due to our Asian appearance. While I was trying to have a proper look in the display cabinets. I was told by a young blonde female worker about how to "stay within the marked floor sections" due to covid.
However she didn't mention any of that to the Caucasian customers, who were also having a thorough look with us at the time. We completely understand how things are & how running a business have dramatically changed. But that doesn't mean the good customer service skills have to drop. A smile from this particular worker wouldn't of hurt either. If it wasn't for the good food, I would of gave less stars.
Just so I'm making myself clear, I'm NOT saying that any of your workers are racist. And that people of colour should avoid coming here, NOT at all! My family & I respect the staff & businesses for enforcing covid protocols, it's not easy. The protocols should be enforced to all customers, regardless of their appearance. I'll return with the fam one day, hopefully that visit will be better than this one. Good news is that your baked goods & hot pastries are still delicious as usual!
P. W.
What can I say. If you have not bought a pie or similar from Fernvale bakery how can you say you never had the best pies !!!! Go have steak and kidney for me. Easy parking but very busy. That must tell you something.
C. C.
I had recently seen an article about the Old Fernvale bakery winning an award for one of their pies... and being a bit of a pie monster on occasion decided to combine a camping trip to Lake Atkinson with a stop at the pie shop.
Yes Yes Yes, amazing pie(s)!!
I had the chunky steak and my girlfriend had the chicken and vegetable. Beautiful pastry, tasty filling... yum I'll be back for sure.
Thank you Old Fernvale Bakery 😁
D. M.
I love bakeries. Staying open on Boxing Day was a good thing for all travelling through town. The staff service was fantastic. Pies and sausage rolls were good but the apple pie and vanilla slice we ordered was not fresh and the apple in the pie did not taste like apple. I question if these are made in store or purchased frozen as some bakeries have are now doing to save costs. Over all not a bad place.
R. D.
Big, hearty pies. Bit salty for my taste and service slow (it gets busy) but otherwise we'll deserving of the title of best pies in Brisbane
b. s.
Amazing pies and means soo much to my family! My uncle unfortunately passed away last year heading towards this bakery that he loved so much. Always will be our favourite bakery to share memories of a loved one and also enjoy their world class yummy pies
P. R.
Nothing like the choice of pies they use to have and they are very runny so difficult to eat take away. The sausage rolls are good but hardly ever have any rolls, sandwiches despite the sign on the road advertising rolls. Still I must be unusual because the queues tell me a lot of people disagree with me. It's a shame for me I would love a pie that doesn't dribble down my front and my arms. Maybe have a meat and lentil pie?
V. H.
Wow. Amazing service. The pies are delicious. When I was a kid whenever my carer stopped by I hoped I would get something but I rarely did. I will definitely come again. (Just saying this isn’t my real name) also no thanks for a shout out. I live too far away for that.
I would like to thank the owner for their response. I can’t come I’m afraid as I live in America. But I love all things good and bright (and how to train your dragon) please accept my most humble apology.
J. L.
Not as good as they used to be. The pie shell taste and texture is less than average. But the filling is OK. Was alot better a few years ago.
n. w.
Popular for many very good reasons! Scrumptious looking and tasting food! I ate a hot chicken and apricot pie...delicious and eaten quickly so no photo. 😂 Could have bought many more treats but restrained myself for next time, as I know there will be a next time!
N. H.
Absolute the best bakery in Queensland!! The pies are amazing, so much so, I had 3 today 😁 the staff are amazing and friendly and it’s just over all a good place to relax and chill out and have a bite to eat !! If your in the area or close by it’s a must or looking for a great bakery you must go 😁
R. W.
Delicious food great prices you certainly get your money's worth.Great customer service even though it is very busy. I can relate not say thumbs up for that s bakery best in Brisbane.
C. T. c.
Great pies and pastries , need to change time on Internet it says it’s open til seven . We just got here and you guys are closed
A. L.
Shop was very busy on Australia Day morning, but we were served and out within 5mins. Yowie Pie 'special' for Australia Day 😆. Sweet and Sour Pork pie was amazing!
R. K.
Nice spot for coffee and a pie
7/6/21
wow thanks guys. Just picked up my free gourmet pie.
Pork & plum. Dinner tonight.
Thanks again
J. T.
The man who served us was cool and the fish and chips share plate was super delicious. The batter was done to a great degree. Definitely will come here again :)
G. N.
A wide variety of good sized, tasty pies. Great selection of cold drinks, or coffee, and pastries, bread etc. Pleasant area to sit and enjoy your purchases.
B. J.
The pies are alright, very good size, large and heavy but they aren’t the best. Steak, cheese and bacon pie was okay we thought there was minimal bacon in them and we didn’t taste or see any cheese. The guy that served us must be new to working there as he had to ask the other workers what pie was what and if they had certain things.
They have cash and eftpos available.
A large line up out the front, with social distancing in place.
If I was driving through Fernvale would I stop in to get another pie... probably not.
H. K.
Pies and sausage rolls were delicious, when we ordered the price seemed reasonable but when we began to eat we saw how much quality these contained.
M. J.
I've bought them for years there pies. Today I found there staff rude and quick to get you out of the store, hence missing two other items I wanted to buy. I know there was a line up but tell the you girls to smile and think sales.
A. H.
Yummo!! We love Fernvale Bakery! All of the food was fresh and delicious. The sizings were very generous with the pies, lamingtons and beestings.
The lady who served me was more than helpful as I had some specific requests. Can't wait until we visit again :)
M. S.
Amazing place. Excellent variety of pies, and I love that everything is made fresh. Excellent gluten free options for my wife and great portion sizes. The prices are easy on the wallet, the atmosphere makes you feel at home, and the staff treats you like family. Wonderful place that I cannot recommend enough.
B. E.
Staff were friendly, pies were expensive and pretty average. Don't know what all the fuss and all the awards were about to be quite honest. Didn't have all the flavour of pies we wanted which was disappointing
V. M.
Great pasties and pies! Wonderful service!
J. M.
We stopped in mid afternoon and did not have any plain mince pies left
But we still was able to get the lovely pineapple coconut slice
Well worth the drive
N. F.
Food is very good Cold drink good services 🙂
M. W.
Wow, they are good pies. Excellent variety however depending on time of day some flavours are sold out. I will travell just to buy a pie again, and take some home.
G. C.
Very nice place with a very eclectic collect of old wares. Lunch was disappointing it didn't include all the stated ingredients per the menu. I suggest if the kitchen dosnt have all the items to make a dish they should tell the customer so another choice could be made. To their credit we wernt charged for a cup of hot chocolate
r. d.
Stopped here for a coffee and snacks for morning tea.
Covid safe place ,which tends to increase the service time.
No problems as the drinks were great and the pies even better
Great place to take a breather.
T. T.
Not the friendly place I remember.
Its not about Covid..I get that.
I knew that bakery from back in 1980, it just isn't the same, but the young lady who served me was lovely, helpful and cheery...
It was my favourite stopping place where I could get my pie and cream buns..I miss the cream buns..
C. H.
staff were very friendly, helpful and polite. The seafood pie was divine and I recommended it to other patrons I took to visit at a later date who also agree. Love the range of pies and will visit again very soon.
L. S.
First Good Meat Pie in Australia (up there with the best in New Zealand- it’s only taken 19 and a 1/2 years of searching 😅)
D. C.
We always stop in at this bakery every time we pass thru - the pies are the most delish and the coffee - ABSOLUTELY AWESOME!!!
We get hot pies to eat immediately and then a few more to either freeze or eat the next day.
P. K.
Good service Good atmosphere Cheers.
C. L.
Can't fault the food at all, best pies + pastries I've had anywhere in SEQ!
Took a little while for one pie to come out but other than that would definitely return :)
R. O.
Lovely fresh bread, I had pancakes and berries, my daughters had a chicken burger and blt. All enjoyed our meals. Covid safe venue. Very nice.
D. P.
Meat pie was okay. Struddel wasn’t that impressive. The worst thing about the place was coffee. I asked for flat white and they gave me cap instead and didn’t taste good at all!
J. M.
Well set out and huge variety of foods. Coffee was good . Lots nice areas to sit and enjoy car and people . The full bakery.
V. R.
Fabulous pies. Steak bacon and cheese. No curry pied though they were sold out. Just means we have to go back!
A. w. A.
The service is fantastic, and you guys have a huge variety which I love, however I am a little disappointed on your pies, they're just a little bit too salty and the pastry was too flaky, but the size was decent and had lots of filling so I will give credit for that! I will definitely be back again though, you guys done a amazing job yesterday considering how packed it was.
b. d.
Guaranteed great fresh food.👍
D. O.
Started 11years ago passing this bakery & we cannot pass their doors without purchasing something. I would say we have tasted nearly every item they have had in their display windows & oh boy are they mouth watering. The Hot Cross Buns are the best I have ever tasted. This year I have bought 10 dozen by the time Easter comes around. Yummm!!!!!
D.I.O. & M.J.W. Thankyou OLD FERNVALE BAKERY
R. H.
Best Pies I have ever had in my life. We tried all different meats and the were mind-blowing delicious!!! I will be telling everyone about them. Thank you for what u do!!!!
P. N.
Great service, but the pies aren't as good as they used to be.
M. K.
This bakery has to be the best in the South Burnett region. Lots of choices, quality products and excellent service. Can't really go wrong. Pies and cakes are top notch. Sausage rolls can be improved with better quality ingredients. Their famous cheeseburger pies sell out early! I'll be back again to see if I can get one!
S. R.
Award winning pies and a great bakery. Stop for a quick snack, or linger longer for something more substantive.
T. W.
Fantastic selection of pies and sweets. The cheese and bacon pies were delicious and the sausage roll the largest I have ever seen. Hats off to the staff for their handling of the COVID-19 situation. Signage and markings were visible and easy to follow.
H. O.
Amazing selection of breads and baked goods! The pies are awesome and there are so many kinds to choose from. Staff are always friendly and the beautiful park across from the bakery is a fantastic rest stop. I always make it a point to stop there whenever I am driving through. It definitely gets busy because it is such a popular spot.
J. B.
Was slow service today. Pies are great and loved the Caramel Iced Cappuccino.
A. C.
Huge selection of your favourite meat pie. Caution: going late in the day may result in your popular choice being sold out. You can sit outside at the tables to relax have a coffee or drink and eat your food. Fernvale tavern right next door
S. R.
Yum.. 120 variety of pies to choose from but of course i chose the pie with pea. I'm glad i did it was the best.. then had a caramel tart that was big enough for two.. stopped back in on our way home but couldn't decide between the chocolate brownie or the match stick, so i took the attendants advice and got them both.. another glad i did moment. Yummy yummy food, great staff, quick and fresh and all round great service..
C. L. R.
Wow, I now see what the fuss is all about. The pastry was great, the pepper was spot on, and the chunks of steak was good quality. Will definitely go back, and recommend to others.
Oh yeah, and try the honey almond topped custard slice. Great pastry in that too, meant that it was easy to eat and super delicious.
Thanks guys.
M. F.
Had the chicken pie and the corned beef with white sauce. Pastry was very good but was let down by the filling in both pies . Both were bland with no taste and bearly any flavour
D. R.
NOT HAPPY with today's experience. We often stop there to take pies to my cousin in Esk. We rang ahead this morning and placed an order of 2 steak, cheese and bacon and 2 chunky kidney. Instead of telling me they had no kidney the lady just said " we don't do chunky kidney". When we got there I still had to wait outside in the queue whereas before we have been able to ring and meet someone at the side door. Finally get inside to find out no kidney pies at all. Decided on different pies then had to wait for the peas. What is the point of phoning ahead anymore. Think we'll give you a miss till coved goes away!!!!
E. D.
Great variety of pies and pastries, bee stings, match sticks, apple turnovers and much more. Not your usual plastic tasting stuff. Delicious
I. R.
We drove to fernvale to visit the area and stop at the bakery to get some pies and drinks. My partner & I were satisfied with the yummy pies and customer service of the staff (there was a long queue) and I had my baby in the pram, staff member made it easy for us, we ordered food, pay right there and even handed it to us. Not longer wait or queues. Thanks Fernvale Bakery for the service provided.
T. E.
Thought i'd stop by while I was out at fernvale for work. This bakery is by far the best i've been to. I'm not usually one to eat a pie but I knew I had to based on what everyone told me about this place.
pie was amazing, so was the custard tart I got. 10/10 from me
C. P.
Beautiful old fashioned service so obliging and under COVID19 restrictions. Lines of people outside at 1.5 yet got through & served within 15 minutes. So worth the wait. We had minced beef pie with potato peas & my brother had gravy. They happily put aside 3 family pies we also purchased to pick up later via quick service. Highly recommend food and awesome staff. Will be back regularly #50kfreedom and beyond. Thank you so much made for a wonderful day.
L. L.
Sausage rolls are tasty huge and great value steak pie was awesome stopped for a late brekky and called back in for more on the way home
L. C.
Great feed and coffee, hit the spot on the final leg home.
B. P.
Absolutely awesome pies.
Your assumption is spot on I am a kiwi and yes there are some awesome pies made over here too, unfortunately I was only in oz for about a week supporting my brother who lost his wife, it was him that recommended you guys highly. I was so impressed I stopped at your establishment every day. Thanks for your reply and I wish I could take your offer but alas I dont live there. Maybe your offer could be appreciated by my brother who does frequent your cafe.....cheers for the shout and thank you so very much, Brendon.
K. L.
Pork and Apple Pie was chuncky pork with perfect apple and is delicious. Lamb and curry pie was more curry than anything else so if you like a solid curry this will suit. Kangaroo pie was okay and crocodile pie was more sauce than croc but I prefer a more chunky pie so purely personal preference. The dine-in menu is is currently offering it all takeaway so if you're up for take away lamb shanks hook in :)
V. W.
Visited on a weekend, fairly busy still. Service was polite, if a little haphazard in their approach to queue management. Seats and tables a bit awkwardly layed out.
Pies were definitely not worth the extra cost to eat in. $17.45 for a pie with chips, veg and gravy. Same pie is $5.95 takeaway.
Cost aside, the pies were fairly good. We had corned beef with white sauce, and a steak, bacon and cheese. Both were tasty, a shade salty, but quite meaty and pleasant.
Toilets were below par cleanliness but not terrible. Overall, would definitely return again for the pies, but takeaway pies next time.
J. D.
This place is so quaint we love the old farming machinery and vehicles especially the old baker's van. The food is great and the chai was lovely. My son's milk shake was huge he was happy. They even kept our food hot for us as we had to rush to the doctor's. We love the outdoor seating area with the big trees. It's so calm there with a water feature.
M. A.
This is the 2nd time I have visited and was still disappointed in the food, but the Pub next door was 5 stars, entertainment was good and so was the food
H. V.
It was a good experience having a coffee and a apple pie, recommended.
A. F.
Nice and clean. The staff are friendly and helpful. Oh yeah, and the pies are very tasty too. They are bigger then other pies and they have heaps of filling. We will work our way through the list.
J. R.
Nice and clean and tidy pie shop, would go back again
K.
Love, love love! Best pies ! The pastry is delicious! Worth the drive out. Plenty to chose from ! Loved the seafood pie
K. S. (.
Tasty. Staff friendly. Could do with menus outside as I wasn't allowed to move off my mark (which is fine, they follow a Covid safe plan!), but I couldn't give the staff member my requests as I couldn't see what they had and had never been there before. Felt I little rushed.
P. A.
Great bakery and next door cafe in the middle of Ferndale. Great quality pies great selection across the board lamb chicken beef and vegtables bit of a line not too long but worth the wait for the pie I got. Nice size good price worth the trip... Once again this place has impress me with it's nice old school size vanilla slice and quality custard tarts. Can't go past the choclate donut full of choclate and the good deal on the bread
A. R.
My daughter dropped her juice on the ground and the owner came and replaced it for us.
Food 5 Stars ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
Service 5 Stars ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
Make sure you sit out the back
G. H.
Line up outside was too long on a hot Spring Sunday 2020, so we decided to pass this time. Couldn't even see inside to see what was available. Maybe midweek would be better next time. Last time we were here the selection was great so a bit of a shame we missed out this time as we were really looking forward to the stopover . Next time for sure . (Thanks Bill for the update , we did look inside the Cafe but it looked dine in only , must have been the hot day)
J. S.
Pretty good pies here. Filling was nice but a bit too salty. Sausage roll filling needs more meat, Less filler to be good. Coffee a bit weak. Worth a stop though, just make sure you have water to drink.
D. L. D.
We got 2 small meat pies, which we ate there and 2 apple pies. Meat were fantastic. Apple was a little pale on bottom due to foil keeping heat away. Overall it was fantastic.
Rode down from Killarney again yesterday for a pie. Got a couple of the Premium mince pies and ate them at tables provided. Pie tated fantastic but bottom pastry was too thin and soft. It trys to fall apart when you are eating it. Knife and fork on a plate no problem but in hand it is a messy meal.
L. W.
OMG best pie I have ever had. There was actually big chunks of kidney in mine. I only wish I could give you another star.
M. L.
Got the award winning pork apple pie, but was underwhelmed. Good coffee and staff was very efficient. Will give it another go.
R. T.
Great service even though they were crazy busy.
Huge variety of pies and quite a few sweeter bakery items.
There were about 4 types of gluten free pies, and they tasted good even compared to "normal" pies.
R. A.
Great food, Lovely location & Very Enjoyable ALL round Experience...👍😘💕👌😉
A. F.
Took a nice bike ride our there for a curry pie, custard tart and took home some awesome fun bread
M. M.
Looks like a great place. Wish I could try everything. Ordered the curry steak pie but was a little disappointed as it had two small chunks of steak with the rest mince. Cost $6 and was too small I thought but the staff were good and the atmosphere positive. Heaps of police visiting and locals so must be good overall. I'll give it another crack on the next ride.

I love this small town bakery. The restaurant attached is where I usually stop when passing through town. The selection of pies is massive. There are even 4 different gluten free flavors. The staff are always friendly and helpful.
Most importantly, the coffee is great! It's worth the stop just for that.

We have been frequent visitors to the Fernvale Bakery for many years. Over time we have had varied experiences of the menu items. I am happy to say now, and for some time, that we are always impressed. Of particular note for us is our regular purchases, chunky steak pie with mushy peas and the sausage rolls! The pies are quite large and full of steak, and the peas are as good as you get. The sausage rolls are large and very well flavoured. All items reflect people having a passion for what they are making and selling. Grab a feed, head a few minutes up the road and enjoy Twin Bridges or Lake Wivenhoe while you eat a good country bakery feed!

A bit chaotic with all the covid rules. Pie was good but then had to go next door for coffee. Took for ages to get. Pie and coffee were good. Would return

I have been coming to this bakery for a long time always find the service and food great just a good place to catch up awesome coffee

Was totally gutted! Drove off with our 6 pies . Most of which we had to change cause they run out. Was looking fwd to my seafood pie. No seafood. Was either a chicken or pork. :(. We queued for half hour spent 60$ . The girl at counter said the pie with the fish on top was seafood. . Not. 😪

Top pies recommend chicken and veg

We lined up in the cold and wind for 10mins, got inside and no chunky meat pies. So had a sausage roll. Very ordinary, had grissel in it. Not sure if it's worth going back all that way. Beautiful chunky meat pies at the Dayboro Bakery, really a meal in every pie.

Went out to fernvale bakery on Australia day, looked busy but still pulled up and was approached by a staff member outside and took our order and got it faster than going through the entry
Tasty great pies yet again and great friendly service
J. C.
Triple cheeseburger pie and choc caramel slice were amazing for my first visit. Thanks guys, won't drive through fernvale with out stopping in the future. Cheers
C. G.
Chicken and beef mince pies were great.
G. M.
Awesome pies and cakes best bakery lovely staff and owner a must hoghlt recommend absolutely amazing will be back 👌👌👌👌👌👌
J. B.
Best pie I have had! I had a chunky steak that was tender and very chunky. My husband has never had pork and apple before and loved it, son had cheese and bacon and daughter the sausage roll was huge. My brother is a fussy pie connoisseur of pepper steaks and he even said it was the best. We live near Yatala as well 🙂 friendly service with great social distance procedures in place. Thanks guys.
N. M.
Only went there to try the bike trail and notice the line up of people going in and now I know why oh man best pies ever. Definite recommend this place as whole.
L. H.
Great coffee & a massive selection of yummy delights! Can't drive past it, even when towing the horse trailer! ... and plenty of close parking to accommodate everyone!🐴😊

Im not a fan of donut, I dont like Donut king and even Krispy Donut but first time trying their donut and make me fall in love with it. Its worth for long drive to get their donut
S. N.
Pastry was too thick for my liking. Probably just above average for contents of steak n mushroom pie

I was here at the bakery this arvo with my family, we drive here every year from Brisbane to visit the dam & to buy some baked goods. Normally the customer service like the food, is top notch. Today we felt we were singled out, due to our …

From breakfast to dinner the kitchen is open and ready to serve.
Over 120 different flavours of pies especially made on the premises. There is a lot to choose from on the menu with an amazing array of cakes, tortes, fruit pies and more available for desert.
They have a licensed restaurant bar with a reasonable choice of wines, beers and spirits.
The decor is not over-elaborate and certainly child proof but also interesting with some historical items and information.
Certainly worth a visit or to take a special person out for a lovely quiet meal.

Delicious pies, fabulous tasting and looking cakes with a great outdoor eating area. Warning: this place gets busy!
S. S.
Great Staff, Happy & nothing too much trouble, we only stopped for coffee & cake, but they had lots more too choose. Great atmosphere, with all the old worlds memorabilia

Bought a pie here for the first time 2 weeks ago. I thought Yatala was good...holy cheeseballs the curry pie I had was amazing. Told the wife about it (had to gloat) and will try to drag the kids away from their devices for a weekend drive.
There was a 10 minute wait on the day but totally worth it.
C. R. P.
Most delicious pie ever. The pastry was light and fluffy. Filling was tasty and generous

I came in this afternoon with miss 4 (I'm sure you'll know her, she told you she was 4... And had just come from school, and all about her life basically...) I requested 3 "random pies", which excited you way more than is humanly normal. You picked 3 delicious pies out. Bacon and egg (or cheese? I forgot), Chinese 5 spice, and pork belly. I don't know which was Chinese 5 spice and which was pork belly (which one is red inside?) but they were all amazing (I tasted all of them). My daughter told me beforehand that she didn't want to go to a bakery, but when we left with rainbow bread she was so happy, and the mudcake was great, and amazing value. Thanks for a delicious dinner!
The only downside was I told my daughter about your award winning pies, and turns out she thought she was going to win an award with the pie. Oops.
L. M.
Wonderful pies... lovely pastry with a huge range of fillings. Very helpful and friendly staff
K. a. C. R.
It was so good! There was a line to get served, but they had a lovely lady coming out and asking people if they knew what they wanted, and she would go get your order for you. Great pies and service. Definitely worth the wait.
R. M.
Great pie and plenty of it. Much better than chain shop pies
J. “. W.
Good pies in an excellent location. It is always busy and if you come late in the day the pie selection my be a bit limited. The pies are excellent with a massive variety to choose from, the pastries are good too with the standard selection and a few different selections that are well worth trying.
J. C.
Triple cheeseburger pie and choc caramel slice were amazing for my first visit. Thanks guys, won't drive through fernvale with out stopping in the future. Cheers

The Bakery is a good place to stop off and grab a pie or two, maybe a loaf of bread. Friendly staff members. The Cafe is a bit slow at service, but the staff members are helpful and friendly. Pop in and decide for yourself.
N. M.
Only went there to try the bike trail and notice the line up of people going in and now I know why oh man best pies ever. Definite recommend this place as whole.
G. R.
Biggest pie I have ever enjoyed.
A. V.
Thank you for responding, that impresses me.
Given your comments may, I suggest your staff ask customers if they want a large or small pie.
My order was incorrect though, I clearly asked for a steak, bacon and cheese pie. I accept errors can be made.
With the Apple turnover, explain to customers that there is an option of mock or fresh cream.
As a new customer who walks into the shop for the first time it was not obvious that there were options.
J. C.
Sensational. The Pie with Peas, Potato & Gravy was awesome. Well worth a stop.
M. S.
Great pies and sausage rolls
G. M.
Awesome pies and cakes best bakery lovely staff and owner a must hoghlt recommend absolutely amazing will be back 👌👌👌👌👌👌

Largest selection of pies I've ever seen.. Loved the old rustic ambience of the place
T. G.
Beautiful little bakery and cafe have been coming for years and the staff are always friendly. The bakery food is amazing!
R. E.
Pretty good pies. They consistently brag about their 120 varieties, but most of them aren’t available when you go. Have at least 5 you want to try because chances are most of them won’t be available.
Also Epstine didn’t kill him self.
P. &. J. F.
Great breakfast, good service, good atmosphere
M. W.
Cafe - Milk shakes/malted milks only this visit. As usual, drinks SUPERB and best value anywhere.
Bakery - Would have purchased pies to take away but, as frequently the case, no "aussie meat pies" left by 2pm. Congrats on experimenting with other meats other than beef but, cheese/,bacon/garlic - seriously!?!An Old Style Bakery would never have heard of such. Tourists can buy this rubbish at any servo.
J. C.
Have tasted some great pies in NSW , but this place is up at the top, size of pie 9/10, pastry right thickness not to sweat or oily, the steak mince and sauce is 9/10( not to runny or jelly like) onion was well cooked and not to much pepper. Other pies by family were minted lamb, steak bacon and cheese, Plain chunky steak. All very fresh and taste fantastic. 120 different pies all fresh ready to go. Just need a lamb and pumpkin. If I'm ever past again will drop in. Very filling.
D. J.
Absolutely amazing little bakery, honestly, everything that you could possibly want under one roof. I highly recommend the fresh salad rolls, delicious. The products are of the highest quality, yet some of the cheapest prices, with white bread starting at 79c a loaf, and meat/salad subs at $4.95c each. Staff are efficient and polite, and the store is always spotlessly clean. Great credit to all involved.
J. D.
Over priced! They are famous, but seriously $8 for a pie?!
UPDATED: The bakery wrote a reply to my review, explaining the quality and size was superior to other bakeries. I'm sure that is all true, but I have had other pies from artisan bakeries, also of high quality and large, that are cheaper. The price of the pie, was felt more keenly, due to the poor customer experience I had at the bakery. I specially went via Fernvale, to try the pies, as I have friends/family tell me they were great. The pie was very tasty, and full of filling, but it was hard won;
I had waited over 10 mins just to be served, with two people on the counter, and only 2 other customers. One server chatted for 10 mins to person buying two loaves of bread. Other server keep disappearing into the back, as they were serving the person ahead of me. I though they must be getting some enormous order. No, just a couple of pies and a loaf of bread. Finally got served by `going out the back' server. (other server still chatting) She asked what I would like, I asked about the availability of a couple of pies. (we came through about 2-3 pm) She said she would check, and went out the back. She checked for the availability of those pies by going over to the next town via the back of the shop. Waited a long time for her to return...! So this pie was available, not this one etc... Chose one with an addition of mushy peas. Big mistake. Painstakingly hand filled. (with her going out the back again for an eternity, to get some filling? ..! I finally got said pie, added bag of rolls I had got off shelf, decided against getting anything from sweet cabinet, as we actually had a destination to get to. Came back out to family in the car, parked right outside, which was handy, and had husband remark on extreme slowness of purchasing two items! Remarked to him on extreme inefficiency I had witnessed. (and I am generally pretty chill about such things, as I have worked in retail, but I was really surprised by the time it took. )
In our visit overall; there was no air of hurry or efficiency the entire time. The entire bakery, whilst charming and friendly, seemed distinctly small town, which it is of, course, BUT, give the popularity of the bakery, and the potential amount of customers in and out, one would think that some more effective processes would be put in place, to serve customers, and keep things flowing. The wait I had was not due to a busy, crowded shop, but poorly managed processes. I would love to give a better review, as the food was fresh, and delicious, but given the slackness of service, and the more than expected price of a simple pepper pie with mushy peas, I hope this review helps the business improve it's service processes, and makes it's prices clearer. Cheers.
C. N.
My only complaint is they never seem to have Vegetable pies anymore. Perhaps they nees to smoke more on the shelf if they so popular 🤞
J. G.
Best pie's you'll ever have.
T. C.
A wonderful bakery filled with character. The pastie I bought looked and tasted great as I sat in the park across the road in the warm sun. I recommend this place to visit.
K. S.
Shared brunch today with family and friends. Food nice coffee not so nice. I think they could clean tables, sauces bottles, etc more regularly very sticky and sauce bottles blocked. Staff pleasant but when delivering our meals we could not get an answer to our questions about which was GF meal. If they are too busy/rushed to answer this very important question perhaps they could put something on plate to show difference between two meals. Apart from that very interesting place to visit.
J. E.
After a long drive it was good to stop here for some lunch. So much variety to choose from and to be honest the best pies ive ever had. Yatala pies could learn a thing or two from this place. Definitely worth stopping in
L. T.
A staple icon in Fernvale, in which when you visit Fernvale you not not get a pie. A bit pricey but you pay (it's what you do). Staff can be a little weird but at the end of the day you still get what you ordered in a timely manner.
T. J.
Love the pies. So fresh, delicious and huuuge. Great staff too.
i.
Great pies but 10/10 times they don't have what I want but in Saying that the alternatives are always tasty. Edit - Definitely call ahead and they will make sure they have what you want ready to go!
P. G.
Very busy, but good service
J. h.
We have two favourite pie shops. The Canungra pie shop and the Old Fernvale Bakery Cafe. The malted milks are also great - at both locations. The staff are extremely friendly and helpful and the owners are 'the best'. Thank to all for the great visit - will be back, and back .......
J. M.
Great pies and staff 5 star . Hot cross buns not much fruit very bland . vanilla slices tastless 0
stars. Wife and my self had one bun the rest went into the bin. They dont know how to bake sweet items. May be the owners should taste it before they sell it.
J. R.
They have a huge variety of pies, cookies, bars, and cakes available and everything looked delicious!! The adjoining cafe is super cosy inside with wood interior and beautiful stain glass windows. We had the Pepper Steak pie (lots of meat and sauce with flakey pastry), a wagon wheel, and a chocolate and vanilla slice. We all enjoyed every that we ordered and the lattes we're very good as well! We've already made plans to return again for dinner!
C. G.
Lovely outdoor seating in the shade where "locals" like to share your treats!
VERY busy on weekends.
W. H.
Have called here a half dozen times over the last few years and bought pies, bread and desert items. Yesterday being the most recent. I must say I have always enjoyed the food. I have not tasted better pies and I did notice the awards (apparently well earned). The shop environment is basic and reflective of history. I have never experienced the less desirable fillings that can be found in some pies from other vendors. I found the meat was top quality. The shop is a short drive from Wivenhoe Dam which is a bonus.
D. R.
Still the best pies around
K. P.
Finally a pie with chunks of meat!, great inventive combinations throughout entire range of pies cakes and slices. Well done
i. k.
Stylish place, good coffee and cakes.
a. j.
In the past the food here was a lot better than it is now. I'm not really sure what has happened to the food here but it's definitely not as good as it used to be. Plus to make things worse the prices have increased. Maybe they have became victim's of there own popularity. Waiting times just to be served can be very long , the store being quite small doesn't help either. There is a fairly big variety of food but I wouldn't say anything really stands out as a must have meal .
R. B.
Love this place! Great range of pies and baked goods. Good quality fillings make the pies a favourite. This is one of our regular stops when riding through the Brisbane Valley. There's the bakery shop and pleasant outdoor eating area for a quick stop, and a proper sit-down cafe/restaurant for those so inclined. Over time we've realised that the owner often takes a low profile swing through and asks random customers what they think of the food and service. He doesn't identify himself unless there is a problem and then handles the issue then and there. Very "old school" and another reason this place comes highly recommended. Go there at least once just to see the range of pies!
L. H.
Great coffee & a massive selection of yummy delights! Can't drive past it, even when towing the horse trailer! ... and plenty of close parking to accommodate everyone!🐴😊
L. H.
Very nice chicken pie I had here. Old place ambience. Very polite service.
R. D.
Great pies, lovely coffee and muffins
L. O.
Beautiful atmosphere under trees in courtyard. Great $10 value breakfast special. Service average. Girl behind counter not very welcoming, not very helpful. Dumped coffees on our table without asking who had soy milk. Hate to see her when the place is busy. Besides the poor service from one individual I highly recommend a meal at the bakery. I would give 4 stars if the service was better.
B. W.
Lovely fresh baked goods and superb pies. Well worth a trip out. Have a picnic nearby at Savage's Crossing on the Upper Brisbane River.
F. S.
Impeccable service as always. Definitely worth a visit. My only complaint is that I didn’t buy enough pie! Phenomenal stuff.
R. J.
We would happily travel from Brisbane just to have a meal here,
Minister for war and finance had the club sandwich, she feels a new benchmark has been set!
I had the.works burger with both BBQ & Tomato sauce, Outstanding!
There is a comfy, happy, family atmosphere in the clean and well organised dining area!
Thanks for doing what you do and doing it so well folks.
A. S.
Amazing pies. Worth the stop.
B. F.
Stopped in this morning for a coffee and a blueberry muffin. Coffee was nice and hot but the blueberry muffin....OMG! Who ever is making these needs a pay rise! Taste was beautiful, fresh fruit, moist and light texture, perfect sweet balance of flavor. WOW, well done guys!
S.
About as good as the 18+ BAKING medals to their name!
Awesome bakery for anything sweet and savoury.... I personally 'Lufffff' there Pies can't even say love without drooling, that's how great quality the food is! Im thinking about their pie's as I'm writing this review... Stop reading and go to Fernvale bakery it's the best 👍
Keep up the quality Fernvale bakery!
C. G.
Chicken and beef mince pies were great.
H. B.
Lots of food options to choose from. Beautiful freshly made meals and lots of options in the dessert cabinet. Staff are very friendly. Simple meal but their hot chips are fantastic, never soggy or cooked in old oil. Would be good to see a few more vegetarian/vegan friendly sandwiches in the cabinets though.
C. G.
Exceptional food, a must stop location when out west of BrisVegas
J. S.
So very worth the drive out. Slowly working my way through the menu and everything has been amazing
S. S.
Wonderful staff and very tasty food
R. N.
Nice service, just please slow down on the salt in the gravy. We didn't finish our meals as the gravy added was pretty intense on the day.
[Edit 24/01/2019. Thanks Bill for reaching out and getting a few extra details. Really appreciated the response and you following it up. See you guys soon!]
K. C.
Always love the food. Huge variety of pies, bread and cakes. The best is the gluten free options I can buy for my friend who really enjoyed having a pie and sausage roll. There is also a variety of flavors in the gluten free options.
S. S.
Great range of pies and excellent service is a good recipe for success. Well done.
P. D.
Loved the two bakeries and the courtyard in between. Cakes bread and pies stunning. Disappointed that the 6 bacon/cheese/steak pies we took home had zero cheese. They tasted nice but where was the cheese?
S. M.
Pies are great, ordered 2 pepperoni pies once and recieved 2 pineapple pies which were actually not bad but not what I ordered. I'm a truck driver so I didnt realise till I ate them after I stopped again 15min later. Been there to get their famous 89 cent loaves and told I can only get 4, disappointed as I only get here when I'm working and was hoping to stock up. Last time I drove past and went to stop but the loaves are now 2 for $3. Almost 100% mark up since a few months ago. Not stopping now.
Reply to Bill,
Thanks for your response. The pies I ate where mince with pineapple pieces on top. I opened them up and that's what I found, so somehow your shop produced pineapple pies. Seriously different at first but not bad at all. Not the pepperoni I asked for though. This would have been a good 12months ago now.
As for the bread, sure, I stand corrected in light of this new information. Just seemed the specials always disappear after I arrive. Thanks again for your response, I appreciate your time and for that I will call in for a coffee next time I'm up there. Cheers.
S. B. (.
Pies are great. Sampled the Kelly during the week then returned at weekend for steak and kidney with mash, peas, and gravy. Busier at weekend and bit chaotic. Our hosts got their pies after we had eaten ours though they were just behind us in ordering. Still crackin pies. All pommies must visit here.
P. K.
Everyone's different, but for me, this place has "The Best" Chunky Steak Pepper Meat Pies, Mmmm ... I travel >60klms just to have 1 or 2 of these! - Plenty of other bakery goodies to choose from, single serve pies to family pies etc, they have a website, so check emm out, well worth the drive! - Beautiful countryside getting there too!
C. B.
My husband and I came across this place on our Sunday drive. What a pleasant accident! This place serves amazingly fresh food, all homemade. I had an eclair and it was the bestest I've had in ages (and I'm French Canadian... I know my pastries.) Well worth the drive to Fernvale.
R. M.
Always very busy. The pies are pretty good but make sure you have a backup option as every time I have been there, they haven't had my first choice of pie... Maybe they don't make all types every day or maybe they only make a few of each type every day?
J. W.
The food is good and the service is usually friendly and helpful. They are simply not set up for the large crowds they get in weekends. Only one toilet per gender and despite the large number of tables, not enough space near the ordering area. Overall, a good experience, if you beat the lunch rush.
