Comments of Bakery 31
v. m.
Great little bakery. Famous scallop pie didn’t disappoint, smooth taste. But was a bit smaller than expected for the price. Friendly service.
M. T.
The Cornish pastie was wonderful. The vanilla slice was dominated by the icing. Other offerings looked good. Prices very reasonable.
B. D.
What a lovely surprise this place was!
Great breakfast and the price was way too low for the excellent quality!
Even more of a surprise was how good the coffee was. It was as good, if not better than anything you'll get anywhere else in the state. Truly impressive!
Make sure you stop here and have breakfast and coffee if you're passing through. Even if you're in Campbell Town, you should travel the extra 10 minutes to Ross.
It's worth it! 👍🏾👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾🙂
C. B.
Always a stop when travelling, the best coffee and freshly made cakes. The pies are delicious so much filling and yummy pastry. The service from the staff is exceptional friendly, helpful and welcoming. They say the other bakery has the best vanilla slices BUT Thats wrong these guys do the best.
M. M.
We often stop here on our way to Hobart. Mostly enjoy our pies, coffee and vanilla slice. But last Friday my pastie was not fresh and barely warm. We'll give it another go before we try elsewhere
B. C.
This bakery had a nice feel to it. The sausage roll I had was very nice. The pepper pie however lacked the pepper flavour I like. I would still go to this bakery for the feel but would try a different pie next time.
C. M.
Really nice place to visit and eat at. The coffee was good, the cakes were great and the fire was HOT on a cold winter day. Lovely town and shop.
N. M.
Lovely food. Adding an extra charge PER ITEM to sit at the tables there feels a little like gouging and the prices were already high. Good but not great food (considering it was $45 plus) just to sit down an have a few pies and a drink each. Expen$ive
2 pies
1 sandwich
Three sweets = SIX dine in surcharges!!!
So an extra $5 on top of the prices
J. K.
One can't visit Ross without a bite at Bakery 31. Their chunky steak and mushroom pies are fab. Tender meat, slices of mushroom in a deliciously rich gravy. The mocha rings are the perfect dessert!
R. B.
A pretty good regional cafe.
S. A.
Really yummy pies. Great atmosphere. Ross is a beautiful place to stop and sit out under the trees.
A. S.
Award winning scallop pie for $8.95 was probably more of a $5 pie. First time in some years I haven't finished a meat pie. The sauce in the meat pie was so thick and glue like.
The treats and cake on the other hand were excellent.
W. a. t. W.
Beautiful food with open fire, so nice to enjoy on a cold morning. Steak and Pepper pie had tender chunks of meat and pepper was nice and strong.
N.
I have gotten into the habit now whenever I am coming back from Launceston to Hobart of dropping into Ross, and the Bakery 31 cafe to break the drive and get something to eat. You will always get something nice, this time I had one of their world famous Vanilla Slice, and the coffee is great. It really is a joy to sit outside and quietly take in the old-world charm of Ross. Great place to visit.
N.
Scallop pie and pastie were delish! The selection of sweet treats was tempting too. Lovely spot to stop and grab a bite on your drive down the Midland highway.
P. C.
Good coffee and delicious pastries and cakes. The girls are always smiling and love a chat. Best Cafe in Ross by a long shot.
F. W.
Great little bakery. Good food, lovely atmosphere. Friendly staff. Well worth calling into Ross for a quick bite to eat
D. D.
You should visit the Bakery shop. We tried the signature one - Scallop pie. It was so yummy. Friendly and lovely staff, good food.
L. H.
Excellent Food and Service. Always enjoy this lovely Bakery in Ross, Tasmania. It's a place to definitely via off the Launceston to Hobart Highway to visit. I go out of my way sometimes to go there. The Food is great but the Cream Cakes are Amazing 😋❤️
H. N.
Beautiful pie. The pepper chunky steak is second to none. Coffee is ok. They also sell ice cream. Staff are generally good but one lady at the counter was very grumpy.
B. B.
Party pie was on par with home brand 24 pack (according to my partner), scallop pie was very average (much preferred the one from bakery inn) Service was not peasant
K. R.
Claims the best Scallop Pies in town, and we have to agree! Plenty of scallops in a mild curry sauce. The Beef and mushroom pie is also excellent, though the cheese and veggie pastie was not as tasty as my partner recalled from a decade ago! Too much potato apparently.
Nevertheless, a brilliant Pie Shop
G. B.
We ate alot of scallop pies during our week in TAS, but Bakery 31 win by a clear mile in terms of taste, scallop ratio and quality! Very glad we made the detour to Ross to visit them... and Ross itself is a super cute, historic village well worth a visit!
G. G.
Coffee is good as other bakery but sausage rolls are moreish.
M. M.
Always come here for our bags of "Convict coffee beans". Vegetable soup great too. Lots of lentils.😄✔
H. C.
Very nice.
Pleasant, cheerful and helpful staff. Neat clean and comfortable with a wide variety of delicious pastries and good coffee.
I had coffee and lamb's fry for breakfast.
On the downside, the flat white was more like latte and the mug was more like a thin tall cup, BUT, I'm a tad particular and they didn't bat an eyelid when I requested the mug of flat white single shot at 60 degrees.
Other than size and a bit of extra froth, the coffee was brilliant. The lamb's fry was delicious (just like mum used to make) and in hindsight I should have ordered a much smaller serving.
I offer you my scorn and pitty if you come to Ross and don't visit Bakery31.
S. V.
Best pie & caramel slice I've had.
E. G.
Had heard they had some of the best scallop pies in Tassie, so we had to try them. We had tried a few during our recent trip, have to say this was the best. The salmon and camembert pie is also worth trying.
J. M.
What a fantastic range of all good things that are bad for you. Home cooked delicious. Yummmo
N. Y.
Friendly service and a fantastic scallop pie! Mild curry flavour with plenty of scallops in a flakey pastry. Definitely worth a stop when in Tassie.
G. C.
Vanilla slice is not bad ( brought one bad for housemate), friendly stuff, oyster pie just soso
J. O.
We had a delicious cooked breakfast however lunch fare looked fresh and with heaps of variety from homemade pies to sandwiches and baked goods you couldn't go wrong. Ross itself is worth the visit to the Female Factory and the historic bridge and other buildings of interest.
P. W.
A chunky pie with real meat and a strong coffee really hits the spot when taking a driving break. Not to mention the scallop pies...
D. J.
Best scallop pies going around Tasmania. Great service and coffee!
J. C.
We were riding from Hobart to Devonport and called in for lunch. The group vote was that we thoroughly enjoyed the scallop pies. Service was friendly and efficient too.
R. M.
Delicious potato pies & sausage rolls and the coffee (mocha) was spot on.
M.
What a lovely little cafe ! Beautiful food and coffee, the staff were really friendly and bathroom clean. We really enjoyed our visit here !
J. P.
Staff are fantastic. With high volume of customer they are amazing. Great food perfect country bakery
G.
Hands down the best Hawaiian Toastie I've ever had!
Awesome coffee, beautiful tea room, sausage rolls rock and the Hedgehog Slice....sooooo good. ❤️❤️❤️😍
Screw Campbell Town as the half way stop on the Midland HWY.
Ross forever!
Hedgehog Slice takeaway... double the amount you think you need.
Thanks Bakery 31
(Give a tip, the ladies put them towards the local swimming pool maintenance. ❤️)
T. H.
Aside from their pies being delicious - I couldn't decide if I wanted a chocolate or a vanilla milkshake, the woman behind the counter offered to make a mix for me, and got me to check if there was enough chocolate 🥺😩🥰
R. T.
Great food with peaceful & pleasant surroundings.
D. S.
Yum has some of the best pies I've ever tasted🥧
L. L.
stopped here for a coffee and cake on the way home from Hobart, gorgeous cake, smooth coffee and lovely polite staff. Cant ask for more, we will be back
C. S.
Stopped for a quick lunch and had the best pies with a side salad. The pies melted in your mouth, absolutely great, while the salad was crisp and deliciously fresh. Couldn't resist the temptation of the little Apple Cakes and a wonderful Coffee Cream pastry.
The staff were very friendly and welcoming.
Highly recommend a slight detour off the highway to Bakery 31.
P. C.
Scallop pie wasn't like we are used to in other places. Pleasant staff.
B. L.
Great little cafe, the fruit cake is 10/10. The staff so friendly and obliging
x. y.
Definitely underrated.
The best bakery in Ross, and they got the best scallop pie in Tasmania! It was so Yum, will definitely go back again to try out different pie.
They are very friendly and allow me to use my own container to take away. Thumbs-up for supporting green :)
J.
It is located in beautiful Ross village which is a tourist hot spot. A good place to stop and have a rest on your way from Launceston to Hobart. The pies were fresh and crunchy and the service was quick.
L. &. T. C.
Paid approx $0.45 per item for eat in which is fine unless you have 7 guests. Pies were very nice, unfortunately the vanilla slice tasted like a packet mix but at $5.45 a slice. Probably wouldn't go too far out of the way to come back in the future.
Y. Å. M. Ê. Z.
Hands down the best bakery in Ross. A solid menu of baked goods; pies, pasties, sausage rolls & more as well as old time classics such as lambs fry with bacon.
C. C.
We had the pie and the vanilla slice. The pie was dry and The vanilla slice was flavourless. The prices were also very expensive, other than that the staff were very nice
S.
A scallop pie is well worth tasting.
D. L.
Absolutely divine...
The best Cornish Pastie I've had since I left UK 21 years ago....
Very well done, I'll be back....
A. H.
Stopped on way to Lonnie, great range of pies plus sit down menu. Clean and the facilities were good
r.
Delightful old style bakery, wonderful Cornish pasties. Five star hardly covers it. Thanks
M. B.
Got a pepper and steak pie, OMG it was great , so was the caramel slice. You have to make a trip to this place. Top one girls
J. R.
Friendly staff. Good opening hours on a Sunday afternoon.
C. C.
Staff were great, pies were pretty average. Pepper steak pie was dry and steak and mushroom was jelly like.
K. M.
The food is amazing! It's a little pricey but still really good. I recommend the steak pies and apple cakes.
R. J.
This place is amazing. Love going there, the staff are excellent and always wanting to do all they can. Vanilla slices and scallop pies amazing. Might be a little bit dearer than normal but homemade and fresh is absolutely paramount. Love it when its cold and the fire is alight!
A. F.
Great place to stop for coffee and something to eat. I Always stop for coffee, morning or afternoon tea or lunch. Buy bread and rolls to take home. Love the banberry slice and chocolate eclairs. They make their own pastry for their pies.
L. L.
Coffee flavour and taste delicious.
V. H.
Very yummy place to eat while visiting the Ross Bridge
H. S.
Award winning pies including outstanding scallop pie made with Tassie scallops. Plus excellent meals - lamb shanks outstanding. Clean toilets. Friendly staff.
N. M.
I found this Bakery overpriced. Have attached a pic of the pie prices. Our $8.95 scallop pies were just ok, we had about 3 small ones in each. The place was busy though. I wouldn’t bother heading to Ross just for them though. The street itself was pretty and nice to see.
T. S.
Just average pies and coffee. Cakes etc the better buy
G. G.
Made my 3-yr-old daughter's day. The lady behind the counter came out to speak to my daughter. My daughter doesn't always take to strangers but she did in this case. She was hungry and wanted something to eat. We were eyeing the kid's meal (spaghetti) cos that was something my daughter would eat. But the lady, dissuaded us because that was just from a can. Offered a simple toast for my daughter. And asked my daughter directly what she wanted on the toast. She told her, butter. Dunno how she charged for that. 😃 We had their famous scallop pie and salmon pie. There's Turmeric in the scallop (gave it a 'curry' flavour). The salmon was passable. Nothing to rave about. Wife was not impressed by the scallop pie either. Would have liked to try others.
But, made my daughter's day in Ross.
P. S.
Nice baked goods and a beautiful old building, somewhat marred by the bright red, oomph branded umbrellas and banners
S. L.
Mediocre chai and the veggie pastie was 99% potato which doesn't agree with me.
Husband's milkshake and steak pie were excellent.
B. W.
What a top spot Ross is and a meal at this cafe will make your visit even more memorable. Beautifully presented food. Delicious coffee and super friendly staff to boot. What else can you ask for.
T. M.
Lovely staff, beautiful bacon & egg sandwich and roaring fire.
G. C.
Very nice vanilla slice and ice coffee.
.50c surcharge to eat in but well worth it
T. B.
Beautiful food at reasonable price. Scones were super fresh. Custard tart WOW! Good coffe and service. Well done to all.
L. F.
Absolutely lovely spot to stop and enjoy probably the best Scallop and Salmon and Brie pies! The coffee was very good, the service was super friendly too :)
K. L.
The business owner is overworking the staff who are very disgruntled and being rude to customers. Its not a nice way to kill a good business. Do better!!!
K. C.
Just that warm feeling of "This is home" when you walk in with great service and rich coffee, pies and goodies - must stop here again, thank you.
B. B.
We had a wonderful meal and coffee here
S. B.
Good coffee and lovely cakes and pastries.
Cheaper if you buy take away and eat outside.
The tea room does look inviting too.
E. H.
Rustic old Ross. Traditional Scallop Pie
N. c.
The cake is was a amazing.
P. R.
Nice and clean place. Scallop pies here are a must try. Ask for the details of the food you're ordering. Friendly staff.
A. B.
Best pepper steak pie I've ever had. The place was very busy and the girls coped well.
B. C. (.
cozy place, delicious pies. thanks for time to experience such yummy blue cheese scallop pie, a wonderful beginning of my days in Tasmania.
M. G.
Friendly staff, great food and reasonable prices
I. L.
Worth the drive to get a scallop pie!
M. H.
Custard tart was good. We also bought a vanilla slice, which was binned at our next stop. Custard was watery.
R. N.
Deferred Scallop Pies until we reached Ross based on previous reviews of Bakery 31. Dissapointed. Pie was watery, fell apart and scallops were scarce considering the $8.50 price tag. Why they curry Scallop pies in Tas is bewildering, you can't taste the scallops.
c.
It’s a good pie to stop over for when you drive from Launceston to Hobart.
J. J.
Worth the drive🙌 The best scallop pie I’ve ever had. Such a beautiful picturesque town, well worth the diversion off the main road.
M. L.
Cute Bakery.
Lovely building.
Gorgeous old town definitely should be on your itinerary if you are visiting Tasmania for your first time.
L. S.
Cosy place. Good pies & pastries. Always drop by with my customers and tourists. I have received some feedbacks from them so far that prices are set a little bit high.
D. P.
The pie was good but for the price of just 1 pie it needs to be amazing, which it wasn't.
J. M.
Some of our pies were just reheated in the microwave so lost some of their crispness. Also they charge more to eat in, so if you do go here grab your food to go...
B. L.
Nothing special. Others have raved about it to me but food and coffee was pretty ordinary.
S. M.
It was ok as far as bakeries go. I've been to better, I've been to worse. I don't think I would wax lyrical about it. But it's ok.
A. T. F. v. M.
Great Chai Latte and delicious mocca cream ring. Yummo.
G. M.
Reasonably priced, fast food to go or sit in and dine. Good selection of food, pies, soup, cakes etc. Home made scallop pies are delicious.
C.
First ever scallop pie. It was really tasty. Service was quick and pleasant. I would come back again.
I. M.
Nice bakery beware .45 extra for every food dish eaten in n .20 extra for every hot drink can make it quite expensive and they don't serve you still have to jump up and get your food from counter.
D. D.
BEST TOASTED SANDWICHES ON THE PLANET!! And the coffee wasn't bad either :)
E. H.
Staff were friendly and the coffee were tasty.
J. H.
Scallop pie was average with small scallops. I gave an extra star for the latte which was quite nice.
W. T.
I was only there for only for few second to buy a meat pie, nice little shop next to the main road going south to Hobart Tasmania Australia
H. F.
