Got this lovely super soft chocolate mousse cake for my niece’s 7th birthday.. this delicacy is hiding in famous Chinatown in the heart of Melbourne CBD..go discover it today and try their variety of cakes and breads..

The best taro puffs I've tried in Melbourne so far! These little puffs of joy do sell out so head in early in the day.
$2.90 per piece but they're absolutely delicious. I'm also a fan of the bbq pork puffs far left. Their almond cookies are our household favourite too!
Good little cake Shop 😍

Authentic Hong Kong bakery. Standard selection of common bread types such as sweet Pineapple, Mexican buns, and savoury buns.
Egg tarts are steep but high quality, scrumptious and buttery. Taro puffs are not too amazing.
Nostalgic and memorable.

BEST FOOD EVER !! i went to this bakery a week ago and cannot forget that amazing experience. I was served by a young female staff member and was AMAZED by her customer service. I was initially put off by the reviews however it seems they were made by prejudiced individuals ... 100000/10 do recommend going again sometime this week cant wait !! :)))

Something of an institution in Little Bourke Street, Maxims is an authentic Asian Bakery and I would consider more upmarket than say Bread Top. They have an excellent range of cakes, buns, tarts and so much more. There is an amazing range of large cakes and cheesecake style items in the fridge as soon as you walk in the door, so if you have a special event coming up, it would be worth giving them a try. Prices are generally reasonable and the taste superior to other places nearby.
The staff are lovely and patient because frankly, I stood there just not knowing which delicious item to buy. I chose the egg tart and not disappointed. There is also a nice range of savoury items as well. Wheelchair friendly. Dietaries - just ask the staff. Eat in or takeaway.

Sells my favourite cakes and pastries. Good price and I find that it is worth the lengthy travel time to the CBD.
However, their customer service is not amazing — I was spoken to rudely.

Good service, greeted upon entry by friendly staff. Decent selection of buns etc and pretty tasty too. Also reasonable price.

Went in to get the egg tart and it was good.
I was surprised that they have a lot of cake varieties. The option they provide are those that I remember eating during my childhood. Will come back to try the cakes some time later.

Welcoming and nice service. The prices are a bit too high for the small quantities. We had the chesnut cake it was delicious and the walnut cookies was so so, acutally this is a butter cookie with a walnut in the middle.

Ordered Pineapple Bbq Pork bun, Pork floss bun, and Cream bun for morning tea on Tuesday. Total 8.50 AUD. There is a surcharge for Card payments.
The Pineapple Bbq Pork bun (2.75 AUD) was a simple yet flavorsome bread. The pineapple topping gave a nice texture and sweetness, while the Bbq Pork filling was saucy and savory. A decent light snack overall. Could be better with more filling.
The selection was just okay, and the place was quite rundown. They have good price point, in comparison to other places in the CBD.

My first time at Maxims' Cakes and it won't be the last, very tastie.
My wife loved the fluffiness the sponge
And how there weren't over powering with sugar.
C. L.
Always go here for the egg tarts. Delicious. They also sell full size birthday cakes and Swiss rolls.
P. K.
I have had the Black Forest cake from here and it was average. It wasn’t the worst Black Forest but it wasn’t the best either. Staff is friendly there.
D. S.
It's bread with topping inside or on top. It's okay. We got mexican bun which is bread with a butter sweet glaze and green tea red beans bun. It's also very sweet. Cash only and the food is very inexpensive. I would definitely try it but not something I would come back for.
K.
Authentic Asian bakery offering beautiful cakes, pastries and sweets. I am a huge fan of their Swiss rolls which they offer in several flavours, I love them all and my favourite is the pandan.
B. M.
Been a favourite of mine for 20 years. Anything custard is really good. Friendly service and reasonable price.

A nice little bakery in Melbourne CBD. Yummy cakes, buns and egg tart. Very reasonable prices.
R. S.
Always great price, tasty cake, i am happy to buy cake for every occassion from here.

I LOVE IT amazing food great quality, will definitely go again

I was excited to try when I saw they had Mexican Buns otherwise called "Conchas" but was disappointed to find it wasn't made with the right recipe at all, not even the same ingredients the Mexican buns have congeled cream on top. I hope they actually give the authentic real thing a try, I think people in Melbourne would love it. Specially Latinos here. If you make it I'll help you promote it with the Melbourne Latino community how about that?

Tan tart, egg tart or Portugese tart, just can't go wrong, especially when they are fresh from the oven.
Swiss rolls, classic!!!
And Birthday cakes ... always consistent, value for money.

Placed order online thru FB. They are very responsive. Ordered almond crunch and Walnut Napoleon log. The almond crunch is very yummy and luckily I bought 2 packs! Napoleon is one of my favourites and it tastes as good as always. Thankyou for delivering to Narre Warren!
C. M.
Cakes are a little dry and lack egg. The prices are ok though
L. H.
Compared to the buns in the Boston Chinatown, it was much smaller, more expensive, and about on par in terms of taste.
T. L.
If you come in around opening when the egg tarts are fresh - you'll find nothing like it in Melbourne! Treat you/your family/your colleagues to a dozen and it won't disappoint.
The selection of buns is also very tasty and reasonably priced.
One of the few authentic HK style bakeries in Melbourne
B. T.
The egg tarts are where it's at. Love the pastry base and the freshness of the tart. Every time I'm in Melbs, this is a mandatory pitt stop for me.

This is a long-standing we'll priced, delicious cake and sweet Chunese bun shop. There are also a few savory buns. It's hard to.pick a standout, but even with the excellent pineapple red bean bun, the superb custard tarts are a must.
K. M.
This hong Kong brand bakery has been in Chinatown for years. Their bread is better than some other franchise ones in the city. Egg tart and cream bun is good
A.
I love their cakes cause it's not swaddled in icing and cream. Their $2.50 range of small cakes are mainly fluffy sponge which is a particular highlight. 10/10 would recommend to friends.
S. C.
Reasonable rates and cake was delicious!
Great place for a last minute cake pick-up.
Friendly staff too ☺️

Their egg tarts are so delicious, definitely the best in Melbourne! Big thumbs up to the male staff in the store as well for being so helpful and always wearing a smile even though the store was so busy

AN ASIAN ANSWER TO FRENCH BAKERIES
Maxims has an interesting range of cakes that are inspired by Asian cuisine.
Egg tart is particularly delicious!
Good place to get a cake to celebrate at an office party :)
T. C.
I have been going to this store since 2000 when they didn't have the tongs and tray. Would go far too much when I was working in the CBD. A bit cheaper than breadtop also. I liked to get some buns and go to Chinatown cinema.
W. L.
My favourite Asian bakery. Has all the traditional favourites made really well + egg tarts. They make cakes as well which I have not tried
J. T.
one of my employees bought myself and staff some sesame biscuits in a Gift Box for Chinese New Year. I absolutely love them, they are the best biscuits I have ever tasted!
R. H.
Your average Asian bakery. Nothing more, nothing less. You cannot expect the best customer service here and the place accepts cash only. Their cakes taste alright at best.
r. s.
Yum.. I loved the fruit cake. It was so delicious. Thank you Maxim's cakes. I strongly recommend this shop.

Best sponge pastries ever.
M. L. T.
The cakes were fine... Delicious except the Fruit Salad cake which was spoiled. I only knew it when I got home and was so excited to eat it.
C. C.
Cheap, delicious cakes and buns, very authentic Asian bakery! Love it 😍 would come back again!
A. C.
Pleasantly surprised to discover Melbourne has a branch of Hong Kong's leading pastry shop right here in the city. It's like having a little piece of my home town.
B. L.
Nice service with a good range of cakes and other baked goods. Similar to Breadtop and Bon Bons but the cakes are great here!
T.
Highly recommended their Wife's Cakes &
Almond Cookies
R. P.
Always the place to get the best egg tarts in Australia. Visit every time I am in Melbourne

Love the twin sausage buns. A great place to pick up a cheap snack on the go. Sweet breads for the win

Bought a delicious Tiramisu cake here (6" $36)

Still has the best mango sponge cake! Love the multicoloured/flavoured cakes too

The rating is only for their egg tarts as that was the only thing I tried, which was very yummy.
