Lived up to the hype. Saturday 11:30am - I managed to unlock the first level achievement after finding a car park on Victoria street and then successfully weaved in and out of all the junkies while trying not to make eye contact with them in fear of the zombie army turning on me. Good sign when I arrive and there's a queue out the door. All hands were on deck and they were pumping out those pork rolls full production line style. Nice clean shop and I was impressed with the attentive staff who took the time to engage rather than throw you & your tasty rolls out the door so the next transaction can begin. Oh yeah the food. I've got a few decent places out near me in Box Hill but I can confidently say this place trump's them all. The rolls were perfect and not too hard and the pork and chilli were right on point. Well worth the trip out for a weekend brunch. My only regret is that I probably should of got two. Keep up the good work guys. Platinum achievement unlocked 🏆

Top quality bahn mi. The crispy pork is the speciality here. A good amount of meat, which is juicy and crisp. The rolls are well made, a nice balance of ingredients. Chilli packs a punch but not too hot, ask for more if you're a chilli fiend. The pateso (pork pastry) is decent but not amazing. A busy place but service is fast.

Great range of options to choose from, I bought ham roll and crispy pork roll. The roll were full with ingredients which is a plus. I like the pate and the pickle onions, it added some texture for the roll. The only downside was the crispy pork’s skin, I expected it to be more crispy. Love their banh mi’s! The baguette is very fluffy and airy! I love their crispy pork roll here, their regular cold cut pork roll is also good. Their pâté and bo (Vietnamese Mayo) is also tasty unlike other places that has no flavour. They do have long queues though, but it is worth a bit of the wait.

There are many Banh Mi places in Richmond, but even at 2.45pm there is a queue snaking out of this store - a promising sign of how good these are here. It wasn't long before an efficient staff started preparing mine. We loved our Crispy Pork and BBQ Pork. The meat was flavoursome and succulent. The liver pate, egg butter and fresh veggies combined harmoniously so that each roll was a delight to savour. This is my go to when I'm dreaming about Banh Mi. Even though it's a bit out of my way, it's definitely worth it.

High quality banh mi. All their varieties are good, but I have a preference for the crackling pork, and the meatballs. You have to get there before the rush though, lest they run out of pork. What makes them different from others I've tried is the use of a hoisin-like sauce which adds a lot of umami and a bit of sweetness. The rolls are fresh, the price is right, and the staff are efficient.

Even though its a small shop they produce the goods. This bread shop bakes its own bread on site so you know that the bread rolls are always fresh. So it was time to go back. The service was good and efficient. My crispy pork bahn mi was fantastic, with some fresh salad and the pork was juicy and crispy. Yum! Not forgetting to mention my crispy roll. I would have liked some more spice but I should have asked for more. My partners tofu salad roll was equally as good and we both polished off our banh mi's in no time. This place is back, and its definitely worth a visit. Last review - October 2019 I haven’t been here in a while so it was time to revisit this place. My last visit was definitely a 5/5 experience but this visit at lunchtime just didn’t hit the mark. The service was very good, the bread roll was ok, and my pork belly, well it was really average and the salad just ok. The roll overall tasted alright but I was asked if I wanted chilli and I said yes please w gusto haha. But maybe the waitress didn’t hear me because there was no spice. I’ll go back once more, maybe, just in case I went on an average day but what I was hoping for crispy bread roll and spice, w some fresh salad. And that didn’t happen.

They're normally great, except I had a staff member who put almost half the regular amount of meat in the rolls. I paid for extra pork which was put on the chicken roll instead of the pork, and took a few exchanges to correct, By that stage the next staff members had already prepared two pork rolls with the same amount of meat that I was paying extra for, I wasn't going to pay for extra chicken. I should have paid for extra chicken because without enough meat to balance out the condiments, it goes from 10/10 to 3/10. I might try somewhere else next time.

If you’re currently reading the reviews to see if this place is worth trying, then buckle up and let this review be the one to read. For context, I’ve frequented many Banh Mi places in Melbourne and Vietnam, and there’s only a handful of places that I can count on one hand that makes me beg for another one right away. Phuoc Thanh is one of those places. As a patron, you’ll most likely be waiting in line that would give the Great Wall of China a run for its length. Despite the long que, the wait time is deceptively quick – a clear reflection of how streamlined the operation is. Unlike many places, this place screams order, not chaos! By the time you reach the front of the line, you get blessed with the authentic Vietnamese smell of baking. The smell gets you excited and serves as a great reminder why you’d be a fool if you didn’t line up. When you place an order, the staff wastes no time and hits you with the infamous question – “chili, or no chili?”. From my observation, the moment a regular makes an order, the staff already has your taste profiles banked in their subconscious memories – a sight to behold when your order is already on the conveyor belt, primed to go. No time wasted. From the moment you take your first bite, to when you finish, is a rollercoaster of emotions. You experience overwhelming joy the moment you whet your appetite with that first bite, but then you shed a tear when you become aware that you are on the last quarter of your roll; realising that you should’ve listened to the sin of Gluttony and ordered two Banh Mis instead of one. Now you’re looking at yourself, your stomach, the line, and asking yourself the deep philosophical question intellectual heavyweights struggle with – “is it worth it to line up again?”. Truly a perfect blend of flour, wheat and whatever goes into making this. Finally, the coup de grace of the Banh Mi is the tailored service. These guys hold the gold standard as Banh Mi connoisseurs. They will examine what it is you like (and don’t like), and tailor it to your taste preferences. If they get it wrong, you can be damn sure that the next Banh Mi you get will have evolved to levels beyond what a human taste bud can handle. A must try!

Was super hungry and stumbled across this place. Its not fancy place if you look at it. But the Banh Mi out here is out of the world. The bread is perfect, fresh, good crust on the outside and perfectly soft in the inside. I tried the grilled pork and the grilled chicken banh mi. I've been coming here for about 20 years now and imho they make the best Banh Mi. Ive tried many others from all over Melbourne but my family and I my love Phuoc Thanhs the most. Their quality and range of ingredients tops it off, little extras; fried shallots, springs onions, their special sauce, their pate' etc make all the difference and of course the standards of chilli, cucumber, carrots and coriander and their baguette are perfect. I however have only ever eaten either BBQ Pork, grilled pork or crispy skin pork as choice of meats. We usually also get a couple of Jian dui (Red Bean Sesame balls) or banh tieu (hollow donut) which are also great, not too oily like many other places. The Banh Mi a far cry from when I use to pay $2.60 for a roll, now averaging at $5.50, but its worth every bite

Just like the other person's review, hands down LEGIT the BEST banh mi bakery. I too have tried numerous Vietnamese bakerys from surrounding +outter suburban areas but nothing compares to Phuoc Thanh! The reason for their goodness is they have mastered and perfected the perfect amount of fillings and the right consistent taste EVERYTIME. It doesn't matter who serves you, your banh mi will taste and be the same 10/10 times.Have always had a good experience from this place (crispy pork) is my fav, everything else is just as good although haven't tried their tofu roll as of yet. I come past to Phuoc Thanh almost weekly and I live 40mins away ^^ if you're reading this review, you should definitely give it a try if you haven't already done so! Phuoc Thanh your rolls are bomb and in my eyes definitely the best in Melbourne.

Vegans don't be fooled- this place may not offer veggie bahn mi options on their menu, but they actually make a killer tofu roll. Tofu didn't look great at first, but looks can be deceiving. It's marinated in a broth that's sweet but not overly so and slightly sour. The roll is stuffed full of all sorts of pickled and raw veg (including tomatoes), then topped with fried onions, spices and some undisclosed dressing (chilli optional). It's the most flavourful bahn mi I've ever had, and my new top pick for Victoria Street.

For the last few years I have been trying many different Banh Mi store (bakery store which serves Banh Mi) around Melbourne, and my final choice goes to Phuoc Thanh. They are very generous with the fillings and their bread are freshly home made in store. Would recommend their Crispy Pork :)

Have been a customer for years (10+). Used to be a lot better I must say. Still tasty but sometimes depending on who you get, the portions can be a bit different - with not much in there with one person and good with another. On one occasion, one lady behind the counter who didn't have a good grasp of English was a bit rude and impatient because I had to tell her an order for 4 rolls. But because they didn't have certain ingredients ready yet, like the shredded pork and the meat skewers etc, I had to then change and select other rolls going off what was not available yet. She was really impatient and she showed it all over her face and in her tone, even though it wasn't my fault they didn't have the food cooked or out. It was around 9.30am on the way to IKEA and the shop was definitely open. It was a breakfast run. I think due to her English skills - it would have been different if the food was available and you can just point to it. Nevertheless, I'm quite happy with one of the other ladies who usually serves me, and she's quite normal and gives fair portions, so just depends on the day.

OMG! My latest food obsession! Pork Bahn mie. So, so good and this place takes eftpos unlike most of the other bakeries on Victoria Parade. Rolls are crusty, salad fresh, pate so good and a choice of meats. Clean and fresh with friendly servers. You have to try their sandwiches, you'll be hooked!

Arguably the best Banh mi on Victoria St (I'm a local and I've visited all the other bakeries on the strip. I don't say that lightly). Get the pork belly if it's still available, it's worth every cent of the extra 50c. One bite into this bad boy and you'll be oblivious to the junkies panhandling for change once you step back out into Victoria St.

Very good bahn mi sandwiches but they're always sold out by lunchtime. If you're interested make sure to get in quick. I wish they would just increase their stock because this has happened 3 times now. In terms of the cold-cut sandwiches, they put a lot of meat in but I still prefer Nhu Lan's.
