There are too many choices! Sweet, savoury and drinks selections galore. Hot or cold. Sitting inside or outside? They even had some fresh loaves of bread and eggs on a separate counter if you want a quick purchase. (Milk is in the fridge). After much thought, we tried the Sheppard's Pie and a toasted BLT. Tomorrow we go back and try some more. For something sweet, we consumed the 'Beesting'. Tomorrow we go back and try some more. Had a nice cuppa coffee and sat outside. Tomorrow we sit...hmmm

Service at this place was immaculate, friendly and the servers were very chill. The garden was beautiful too, loved eating outside. However the desserts weren’t really up to standard, we had the vanilla slice and the filling was delicious the custard was so soft and fluffy paired with the cream however the pastry was so thick and the bottom pastry we had was a bit salty as if the butter wasn’t completely mixed into it. The almond croissant was more like a custard croissant , barely any croissant in it actually.

We had afternoon tea for our weekend trip. Friendly staff, nice atmosphere. I like the old building and outdoor area is really nice. I was surprised the Vanilla slices size😂 I had Almond croissant, it was also huge. It was nice but I think it’s not Almond croissant. I think it’s better to call it ‘Almond slice’

I gave 5 stars because of the staffs! They are so lovely, bubbly and helpful. Definitely brighten up my morning. Love their egg tarts and jam donuts

I get a strawberry milkshake almost everywhere I go, and this little bakery had one of the BEST strawberry milkshakes I've ever had! Perfect ratios, it was so good I wanted to share it with everyone, but also keep it all for myself! And the rolls I took home were delicious also!

Lovely staff, good service, over 6 years. I have noticed New ownership ,every couple of year's. If I'm mistaken, I'm sorry. Menu needs updating. Taste buds of variety. Population is growing, and we live in a multicultural society. Food critics will give you a brain wave and a thought of good value for business.

Food taste was great, prices very reasonable, a lot of flies in old shop, but what can you do. Service staff not rude, nor super friendly. Lots of room inside. Competes with the newly and highly sort after Daniels bakery, I still chose this place for its charm, plus no wait and plenty of seats inside. 3 stars may be harsh, lets call it a 7/10 for my experience on the day!

Ate my own weight in baked goods. Their pies are delicious really well made with proper chunks of meat. I personally ate 3 in one sitting. Sandwiches are super fresh and they make to order if you don’t like what’s on display. Milkshakes were great. Coffee was average but given it’s the holidays the service is really good. Jelly slice yum. Vanilla slice was bigger than my head and the kids loved it. Great area out the back for families. I can see why you guys are the busiest place in town

We just ducked in for a takeaway coffee on Easter Sunday (late morning). The bakery was well staffed to cope with the crowds, and the staff member taking orders was transparent about wait times prior to ordering. A credit to all the team involved for working on the long weekend and providing friendly service for the benefit of the Portarlington community

The food is good but the coffee is bitter and once again they do not have lactose free milk. They do have Soy or Almond but I find them foul. The bakehouse has amazing bread that is cooked the old fashion way. A lovely old fashion ambience in the bakery and it's good to sit outdoors on a good day

Brilliant traditional bakery with fantastic range of savoury pies, foccacias, croissants, brunch options plus great coffee. Outstanding mouth watering range of sweet delights, cream buns, scrolls, vanilla slice. Eat inside or head outside with a great play area for the kids.

Cash only.. how on earth a businesses thinks this is acceptable is crazy.. This place used to have the best range of artesian breads, now its on weekends and even then the offer seems a bit average. Breakfast was a slow service the poached eggs were pretty much solid. No sourdough only thick boring white bread that didnt go well with over cooked eggs. Such a downgrade from what it once was. Portion size was very generous, coffee is great and staff pleasurable.

Love coming here daily for an awesome hot chocolate and great bakery style food. Croissant, slices, breads, pies, focaccias and even cooked breakfast!! Can get busy when tourists are in town so there might be a wait on these days, so be patient and relax and enjoy the atmosphere. But us locals are aware of this and just go with the flow. Very lovely hard working staff.

Lined up with other strip shops, high on the main street is the Portarlington bakehouse. Its double fronted feature is a beacon to one with an appetite. It would be the dominant business with a bayview, street side seating, indoor seating and a quirky backyard space with more seating. There is quite a range of baked items, pies, sausage rolls, focaccias etc. After a long walk in the district this punter took on a trad long black and a vanilla slice. All up $8.90. The coffee was good, the service was good. The slice, a generous portion was delivered to my table with a knife and fork. Unusual I thought. I am not a pink icing man, and so it was with a deft hand that I peeled back the sticky layer like carpet from a pub floor. The choppers went in. Custard went out. Oh dear ! No biscuit crunch in this slice. The knife and fork became the fighting tools of choice to clean up this delicatible feast. The custard was good but would have shone between a better vehicle of pastry. Fortunately the mens were close by so that I could clean myself up for the public. ⅖. I would try some other item next time.

Feels like one of those local gems. The place you stumble across and remember for next time. We had the rye bread loaf 3/5, Almond croissant 4/5 and a decent decaf 4/5. A truly rustic setting that reminds me of my home bakery in Benalla Heides. A bit yuppy, though perfect for me as a yuppy. And the best bariasta work environment we have ever seen. Fantastic place, the biggest and best roll's and sandwiches I've ever had! Not to mention the awesome array of cakes and slices...the French Vanilla slice is huge and delish!🤤the place is so good I'm considering moving to Portarlington!!👍👍👍👍

Really nice outdoor area with a small playground for kids. Great friendly staff and yummy food whether it's savory or sweet. They're usually busy on weekends but there isn't a long wait for the food. The only thing I don't like is the baskets the savory food is served in and that they're piled on top of each other when they bring out your food. I doubt these baskets are washed so I don't think they're very clean. Personally, I would prefer the food be served on a plate.
