Comments of Holbrook Bakery
A. C.
Great country flavour with service to match.
We were on our way home from Melbourne and just crossed the border. We've been traveling for a few hours so it was no surprise that our stomachs started grumbling.
A quick google search and we came across Holbrook Bakery with great google reviews. This place did not disappoint! The pies were flavoursome and if you have a bit of a sweet tooth, the pastries were delicious too. My partner and I grabbed a Country Chicken Pie, and a Steak Curry Pie. We accompanied it with a nice apple slice which balanced it perfectly from savoury to sweet.
The staff were very pleasant, a perfect example of the good ol country hospitality. We highly recommend the Country Chick and recommend getting here a little early as the pies could run out.
L. C.
I think this might win best pies in Australia. Had 4 pies here: Country chicken, Hamburger (which literally tasted like a triple cheeseburger in pie pastry), lamb and rosemary (very juicy and smooth), and steak + mushroom. Also had a sausage roll. The pastry doesn’t flake too much but it is perfectly crisp.
V. H.
My guilty pleasure is a fresh cream eclair from the Holbrook Bakery. Delicious.
It appears they may be moving or having a new venue in a large multi service centre on the edge of town. Some of the charm is walking there from your accommodation and sitting outside and watch the activity in the lovely little town but we shall see how it goes.

Always a go to on our drive to Melbourne. This little bakery is awesome, food is great and the staff are always lovely.
The pies and sausage rolls are great and the large wagon wheels are so food and a great flash back to a lunch box treat and oversize.
Do yourself a favor and one for you and the kids.
H. F.
Delicious and well worth it. Yummy and enormous rolls, sandwiches, wraps, coffee and bakery treats. Fresh produce. Highly recommended. Thanks for such friendly service too.
N. C.
Good bakery, huge bacon & egg rolls for the price. Shame that in December 2021 they still haven't opened their bathrooms / indoor dining though.
M.
Driving through Holbrook we decided to stop for an afternoon delight ~ best french vanilla slice, so fresh & delicious, the lemon meringue pie was also amazing…. Highly recommend this bakery if & when in the area!
U. R.
Good variety of bakery stuff , had a quick stop on the way back to sydney from melbourne, lovely lovely staff , they can lift up their coffee game , rest great food and reasonable prices , keep up the good work guys
T. W.
I can’t recommend the Holbrook Bakery highly enough.
We stopped here on our way from sydney to albury.
The meat pie was the best I have ever had. REAL meat chunks cooked so that they melted in your mouth.
The coffee also was excellent.
K. M.
Heading down the Hume Always Stop Here For Friendly Service & A Great Potato Pie & Delicious Cakes 🧁
M. A.
Awesome pies! Make sure you stop by and grab one or two if you're in the area!
C.
Great to get something for lunch or just a snack. They have a fantastic range of goodies and the girls working there couldn't be more helpful and lovely. Old fashioned service, there is tables and chairs outside to enjoy your purchases and coffee.
J. B.
Great spot between Sydney and Melbourne. Pies are delicious and would recommend buying a loaf of their bread!
R. B.
One of the best Bakeries I've had the pleasure of visiting,, Love my sausage rolls and theirs were Great
R. T.
A nice place to have a meal. We had a curry pie $5.20 and a mushroom pie for $5.50. The pastry is very nice but the filling is a little bland. It is pet friendly too.
J. W.
Plenty of transient customers enjoying a fresh made pie, sausage roll, desert or fresh sandwich. Enjoyed the steak and mushroom pie and sausage roll. The missus had a fresh made salad sandwich. Dining options inside and outside. Plenty of on street parking options. Can get busy but adequate staffing sorts through the crowd quickly. Worth the stop. More than a cut above your usual roadside dining options.
Z. “. F.
Straightforward good food at a reasonable price. Don't be put off by sandwiches in clam-shell plastic, they are good as is the coffee. Friendly and busy bakery.
C. P.
Great place to visit and eat.
Get off the Hume and visit Holbrook home of HMAS Otway yes a submarine in a small country town you can visit it for free walk on parts of it visit the tourist centre next to it then come downtown to the Holbrook Bakery for some real country food and hospitality unless they are too busy.
Park free at the front door and spend time looking at the wide range of breakfast items, pies, sausage rolls, sandwiches, breads and cakes of course full service coffee and tea if a cold drink isn't on your desire list.
Seating either indoor or on the street.
Order at the counter but delivered to your table.
Amenities inside.
Also a range of home made jams and sauses even Christmas cakes when appropriate like hot cross buns but no unlike Coles or Woolworths they are seasonal.

After being refused cooked food at Tarcutta, due to just cleaned the hot plate. We drove through Holbrook & found this bakery, Fantastic food, such friendly service, the place was spotless. Everything was perfect.
D. E.
Friendly, welcoming staff. Comprehensive range of pastries and sweet treats. Coffee's good too.
I. G.
Opened up right on the dot, friendly faces, great service. Yummy coffee and the kransky sausage roll hit the spot. (Should’ve got 3!)
J. S.
Amazing offerings here. Pastrys, fresh wraps and sandwiches. Coffee was on point. Fabulous place to stop for a feed and coffee
G. L.
This vanilla slice wasn't too bad. The custard was quite firm though and a little too gelatinous. The icing was nice, not too sweet and the pastry was crispy without being hard or tough.
It went down well with a cup of black tea
J. T.
8/10 plain meat pie
9/10 sausage roll
Great stop ...
P. J.
Good coffee, even better sausage rolls ! 😀 Some staff can be very moody, Come on guys and gals chin up and smile when we walk in ! Working at a truck stop was my dream as a child I only wish I had applied myself more.
S. T.
Good pies and cakes. Bavarian ring and caramel slice are good
D. S.
A great place to take a break on the Melbourne Sydney drive. Very good pies and cakes and coffee.
Z. Z.
A nice bakery with friendly service. They have a large range of high quality pies, sweets and breads and make good coffee. I can recommend the potato with beef pie and iced coffee. It is dog friendly with water bowls left outside for weary canines. There are seats both inside and outside, including large tables. Popular with both locals and travellers alike.
G.
Very friendly service and delicious food. Well worth getting off the Hume Highway for a rest and a break to your journey. As a bonus to the bypass opening, parking close to the bakery is very easy to find.
C. M.
The food at the Holbrook Bake is of a very good with a good selection of pies and pastries to choose from all make in the old style of baking. If your passing well worth a visit. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️🥧
R. M.
Awesome food and coffee. Well worth the tiny diversion off the freeway.
I. A.
Great place to refill off the highway. Muesli, multigrain toast and cappuccino all get a tick from me. And the coffee tastes like coffee! And here we are again! A mug of soyccino, wholemeal toast and more muesli this time.
R. C.
Well worth the stop! Great pies, sandwiches, cakes and coffee!
J. C.
Coffee ok also had cheese cake tart too sweet not satisfactory really
R. R.
Always make a point to stop here on our way through. Top rate pies and baked goods. Always love the lemon meringue pie and hubby is a fan of the jelly slice. The coffee is good here too.
S. M.
Excellent bakery but you need to update your opening times on this site and on the notice on your door. I rocked up at 2.30pm - sign indicates open till 3 or 3.30pm, yet door was locked🤬🤬🤬🤬🤬🤬🤬🤬🤬
V. L.
Fantastic bakery... we stop here every time we travel the Hume. Pies are so tasty with plenty of filling that is not all gravy. Salad sandwiches also have plenty of fillings. This bakery is a must stop in your travels. Take your food down to the park and see the large submarine.
S. W.
Best Bakery I've been to in many years.
I tried the Steak & Garlic pie and also the Roast Beef & Gravy Pie. Both were phenomenal. It was lunchtime and rather busy but staff were efficient and friendly at dealing with the lunch rush.
Definitely worth a stop over in Holbrook for this.
k. m.
Delicious hot choccy and ham and cheese toastie
M. O.
Great egg and bacon roll. Good coffee. Highly recommend.
E. H.
Lovely professional service from young lady at counter. We were looking for vegan breakfast after a bad experience elsewhere in town. The young woman was extremely helpful to our requests and welcoming and non- judgemental. She looked up ingredients and rang to check on other ingredients. Ended up with a delicious hot chocolate on almond and veggie burgers which were also very nice. Thank you for such professional service that greatly exceeded our expectations after our earlier unpleasant experience.
J. W.
Worth the stop through for a great pie and lovely cakes
on your way too melb or back to Syd.
Down the road a short walk to the Holbrook submarine.
Great for a rest stop with toilets and for kids to climb submarine.
Food fantastic at bakery with everything made fresh and homemade.
J. S.
Good, friendly service and gluten free sandwich options.
M. B.
This is a must when you're travelling on the Hume. Well worth the detour. The house made "Wagon Wheels" are great
K. J.
Fantastic place to have a big breakfast before your long travel back to melbourne😊
K.
Delicious food. Coffee was made to how I take it. 👏👏
A. A.
Just as delicious as my last visit 12 years ago. And the coffee us fantastic
M. N.
Sourdough Bread, great roast beef and salad rolls , pies sausage rolls, they have it all, already famous find out why
t.
Was good, the potato in my pie was kinda bad though.
D. W.
Went to Holbrook Bakery from Albury for 1st time & it was just great & very busy. Service was 1st class as too was the food. Had a couple of pies, pastie, sausage roll and small apple pie with a french vanilla slice (that was for 2 people). Great to see fantastic service & every staff member happy & smiling.
Highly recommended.
R. H.
Awesome awesome awesome pies. It's so popular there are qeques at the counter. Love it.
G. U.
Friendly service with a smile. Good selection of pies.
I chose the pepper steak pie. Good coffee too. Comfortably cosy for a small country town bakery.
D. J. W.
On our way back from Victoria after escaping the Andrews lockdown, we stopped here for lunch, lovely meat pies and coffee, would always recommend it! the girls are great very smiley and pleasant!
D. P.
If you want a slice just like grandma use to make!
Here is your place, it will take you back to your childhood.
And while your there try the Eggs Benedict Burger, it’s unparalleled!
Just don’t forget to grab extra napkins, you’ll need them!!!!
And a great coffee to wash it down with.
H. L.
Been here several times on way to and from Sydney. Never fails to offer great coffee, excellent pies and cakes and above all terrific friendly service.
Highly recommended.
J. B.
Lovely staff, delicious potato pie, and a vanilla slice for the road! The line is worth it...
D. M.
A bustling country town bakery with great pies, fruit mince pies and gluten free bread to make sandwiches with. Everything that we purchased was enjoyed and the service was bright and positive. We will probably be there again sometime.
B. P.
I love this bakery and stop often on road trips.
But, as a concerned citizen I must report that they have no mask policy and are not enforcing social distancing.
This is the only bakery on the Hume that I’ve visited that isn’t enforcing a Covid safe plan for staff and customers.
It’s very disappointing. I didn’t feel safe, especially knowing that many people have travelled from Sydney.
M. A.
Always very busy. Ladies work very hard but have smiles for you and are very helpful. Delicious cakes, sandwiches, meat pies and plenty of fresh bread. Thank you for your service.
D. M.
Lovely spot, had a ham, cheese & tomato croissant with a nice flat white for breakfast. Delicious with two very charming young lasses serving.
J. R.
5-Star Service! Great coffee & good hearty feed. Healthy options too. Perfect half way stop!
N. C.
i have no experience but my friend left her butterfly purse at the bakery and they they kept it for 1 month and later returned it to her safely. Love the Holdbrrok bakery. I will go to that place anytime I am in Holbrook. Thanks Holbrook Bakery for your great service for my friend, she is very happy.
P.
We had fresh jam donuts and a cuppa for our morning tea. Absolutely superb!!!!! 10/10. Very relaxing place. Friendly staff. Highly recommended.
N. A.
Wow, delicious pies ! My husband had the steak, cheese and mushroom and really enjoyed it. And I had the country chicken pie which was excellent - filled with large chicken pieces, corn and peas in a creamy sauce - yummo !
A very Covid safe venue. A perfect place to stop enroute between Sydney and Melbourne.
S. S.
Good value. Best to get in while plenty of choice.
P. T.
Great coffee and pies. The sausage rolls are the best.
S. S.
Worth while visiting. Had the potato pie and coffee. Both were excellent. Very popular stop off and I can understand why. The cakes etc looked so delicious and fresh.
Service was really quick. Will be back.
B. F.
Clean , fresh bakery, a must call in when traveling on the Hume highway. Plenty of parking out the front.
S. S.
Great variety of food but they need to smile and make you feel more welcome when you walk in. Everything seemed like it was an effort for them. We were easy customers, but they seemed to make it harder than it needed to be. Quite expensive for what we had. Not the usual country welcome you usually receive in country towns.
M. N.
Good food and good service to be found here. Wait times can often be quite substantial around lunch time considering this is one of the only places to grab a good bite in Holbrook. The pies and pastries here are notable - you can rely on them to be fresh & tasty.
P. M.
Bit expensive but nice food and service
S. D.
Home made pies delicious. Cinnamon donut scrumptious. Soy latte to wash it down. Charming run down period interiors. Only gripe: why can’t we use sauce bottles rather than those wasteful single use plastic squeeze serves.
C. M.
Having a family trip with a bunch of Canadians from Melbourne to Sydney. Hungry? Find the busiest place in the town!W Because they obviously have the best food. We walked into a crowded bakery, had to wait maybe 5-7 min before our orders being taken. Service was quick and super friendly! Honestly the best pies I've had during my time in Australia. Wish I could stop by again! Thanks for the wonderful meal in a lovely little bakery.
S. B.
This place is a nice surprise, much better quality than you might expect from the outside.
Every time we stop it is busy, still service is friendly and quick and the food has never been dissapointing
T. S.
Good coffee and pies. Biscuits are yum too
G. A.
Just passing through Holbrook and had heard about the bakery so had to stop. Wasn't disappointed with my decision.
Was pretty busy and I understand why. Not a long wait and staff were friendly. My pepper steak pie was excellent and if it was my local I would be eating pies every day!
M. H.
Covid practices in place, great food, friendly staff
W. W.
Worth taking the exit off the motorway for this one! Right in the centre of town with lots of convenient parking. Tables and chairs in air-conditioned comfort for the hot days. A wonderful menu of pies and cakes at reasonable prices. This is a really great place to visit and I'll be back.
K. R.
Definitely the best pies we have had in a long time. Lamb and rosemary and beef and veggies. A bit dearer than a servo pie but worth it.
U. K.
Very good cinnamon donuts and cute Christmas muffins!
I. J.
We had a very nice chunky steak pie and quiche Lorraine with some excellent coffee. Service was friendly. They were happy to washout my keep cup and refill.
A. C.
This is our favourite place to stop off and have lunch when we travel from Sydney to Melbourne and also return.
There has a great selections of pies and cakes as well as some freshly made rolls.
It is also dog friendly when you sit outside.
This place is well worth a stop off on your travels
s.
The steak and pepper pie was really yummy. One of the best pies i have tasted in Australia. Took me back to the memories of NZ pies. The service was quick and dealings were awesome.
A. T.
Love this bakery, great pies, good coffee, friendly staff mostly, had breakfast here today 7th September.. first time as usually drop in for pie n coffee on the run.. great feed.. thanks Holbrook Bakery! The best around!
J. B.
Absolutely one of the best pies I've had in my life! I can understand why this was the busiest show on the strip. In fact just after we started queuing up 5 police officers from all around the area came to get their lunch. Very polite people as you'd expected from a country town, I list of celebrity signed lunch bags stuck to the wall was astounding. Sadly I ate that beautiful pie so quickly I forgot to take a photo.
B. R.
So good. Best custard tarts in the world (so far). Delicious pies and pastries. Friendly people. Always make sure we stop here on the drive between Sydney and Melbourne.
S. H.
Busy bakery with excellent pies, cakes, slices, donuts and fresh sandwich options. So many choices! Lovely staff and seating inside and out, reasonable prices. Worth a stop in Holbrook.
J. C.
What a fabulous place to stop for a break. Coffee is very good and the baked goods are scrumptious. Service is excellent - friendly and efficient. I'll never drive past ever again without a stop off here.
S. S.
Great place to stop for a quick bite to eat, and don't forget to check out the submarine.
S. C.
Pretty good pies, pretty good sausage rolls. Nothing to write home about but not bad. Decent place to stop for a quick bite on a road trip
A. D.
Great pies and sweet pastries
M. J. F. l.
Very busy country bakery and once you eat their produce you can see why the local support them so much. Good covid-proceedures.
C. M.
Excellent selection of cakes as always
E. C.
The pies and sausage rolls taste great & the bakery does a good breakfast as well.
There are sandwich options as well as fish and chips with a decent sized fish serve mind you.
Some of the cakes & pastries aren't so great...but you can't please everyone!
A. H.
Delicious food always fresh
P. R.
Visited for lunch when travelling between Sydney and Aulbury. Fantastic place to stop. Good service, good choice and great pies.
Was queueing out the door when we arrived but managed to get a table to eat our lunch inside. Didn't want to eat outside as it was 42°C.
Does have toilets inside too.
Also stocks ice cream.
B. B.
Keep coming back each time we travel the Hume. Pies are great, last experience however the pies could have been warmer. Staff were obliging and offered to reheat. Will come again
S. S.
Delish!! Pastry is soo nice & flavours are amazing. Ya gotta try the hamburger pie😆,bought some to take back to dinner for the kids, if they make it😯. Lemon meringue pie yummo.
P. G.
Excellent service. Pies and sausage roll were tasty. Coffee and mocha were nice. We fed 5 people for $36 with drinks. Will stop off again next trip to Canberra.
M. M.
Fabulous food for an excellent price. Wagon wheels are made in house and are HUGE (size of your face!) Lemon meringue pie was seriously lemony - actually too much so for me, but if you like your lemon meringue very tart go for those bad boys. Priced the way a bakery should be - we got 4 serious sweets - large sizes for less than $14
S. M.
Donut's are very oily.
A. K.
Came in at 12pm on a Tuesday, noticed a few tables taken by some old folk, two people in line in front and two behind us (2 of us). We orderd the pie, chips and salad and with 10- 15 minutes both our goliath meals came out at the same time. Great mocha great tasting meal. Highly recommend.
Alex
R. B.
Good pies and cakes. The girl at the counter was a bit thick charged us double for our order refund made once I pointed out the error. Recommended but just watch the till.
T. H.
A regular stop no matter which direction I’m driving. Open early for a good feed, and the pies for lunch are delicious. Located close to parking and parks to enjoy the food.
Q.
So very understated in looks, this place rocks! F*#"ing fantastic wagon wheel, great sausage roll, & I bought some cold pies to takeaway & freeze for laters. Tonight I finished work at midnight, really wanted easy dinner, popped 2 Holbrook Bakery's pies in the oven while I 🚿, awesome pies! Perfect pastry, great flavours. Just to qualify my comment, I've been a chef for 23yrs. Our little family popped in to Holbrook Bakery for a quick bite on the way back from Canberra, couldn't leave! We spent over an HR there trying different delicious items, All were fantastic!
M. L.
We stopped at the outlet at the Caltex just off the Hume (Uncle Leo’s I think) instead of the main bakery. The kransky sausage rolls were next level - fresh buttery pastry wrapped around a whole juicy kransky and rolled in sesame seeds. The steak, bacon and cheese pies were also very good. The toilets at this food court side of the petrol station are clean and modern. Head to the main bakery if you want a bigger selection of fresh sandwiches, breads and pies but if you are in a rush, this is a great stop.
P. F.
Very friendly and helpful service, great coffee and tasty pies.
Well worth the stop.
C. K.
Without question, the best milkshakes in a long, long way
S. P.
Holy moly, best sandwiches ever. Unexpectedly good. The ratio of chicken, crunchy lettuce, non smashed avocado, Spanish onion and mayo was excellent. And it was on white bread ! I love white bread. Now I don't have to fly to Japan to get the best sando ever. Thank you for making amazing food bakery people. And coke in a glass bottle. Tick tick. Yes please - franchise in Melbourne?
R. H.
Friendly staff, lovely pies and portion for a hungry brekkie stop off. Cute little town too!
I can still taste the best damn Hamm and cheese toastie you'll ever have.... 🤤
D. K.
Stopped here to buy my lunch. From the outside it looked deserted but once I opened the door it was bustling inside. Selected an egg an lettuce sandwich (thought it was the cheapest at about $3.50) and a tuna and salad for $7.50. It surprised me to be charged $15.50. Discovered that I got 3 halves with the egg and lettuce and they tasted great when I ate them at Gunning showgrounds but I did think I payed more than I should have!
S. L.
I stop here regularly for a two course gourmet meal. The curry pie, a lamington and a coke... god do I love it. I will be there today again..All takes place when on a road trip.
A. K.
Baked goods were ok, nothing special. Coffee was poor but my daughter loved her mocha. Service was quick although they get quite busy.
C. M.
Best bakery between Albury and Sydney
K. S.
Best curry pie ever! Traditional custard tart was also delicious. Wonderful friendly staff and delicious food.
C. K.
This bakery for a little country town is great. I was in town for 5 weeks and none of the breakfeast menu dissapointed me. The hot chocolate is one of the best around. The ladies are so kind and always smiling. Will drop past again soon
A. P.
Get off the highway for a break here in Holbrook! Super friendly service, very good coffee and a tasty, moist, very delicious apricot slice. We’ll be back.
B. M.
Have been coming here since I was a kid and it holds a special place in my heart. The bread all the way to the pastries are out of this world in terms of quality and taste. Everyone should come here because it feels like home
L. A.
Always enjoy our visit to the Holbrook Bakery
Lots of variety and very good quality food and so is the Coffee .
We also bought a delicious Poppyseed Loaf and every slice was a "Work of Art" with the Poppyseed swirl through the slices..
We'll always stop here on our way South..

These guys go beyond with customer service, amazing! I left my handbag and they rang NIB to call us when no number was found in the bag, on our way to Melbourne/ Tassie from Newcastle saved a huge amount of stress, Thankyou!! The pizza at $5 ish fed our family of 5 beautifully with good coffee and treats for the road much better value than the usual chain takeaways👍

Fantastic food. They were flat out as it was Thursday before Easter. Great place to get lunch while breaking the drive to Sydney and having a look at the Submarine.

Gotta try their sausage rolls. BEAUTIFUL. GR8 coffee too. Beware the cupcakes so light and fluffy hard to only have one. Cannot find fault in anything. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED

Holbrook Bakery still manages to draw the masses, even with the bypass in operation. I'm breakfasting on muesli, toast and cappuccino. It's good to get coffee that actually tastes like coffee!

Great soy milk coffee everytime! The staff bend over backwards to make sure everyone is fed. Huge menu of tastiness.
