Comments of Kürtősh - Crows Nest
I. K.
The Kurtosh or chimney cakes here are amazing. I definitely have to give the team here that. It definitely tastes authentic like the kurtosh that you can get from the street peddlers in Hungary. Nothing compares to a freshly made kurtosh when it’s snowing and -1 degrees. And if you are craving that chimney cake from Hungary this is the place to be. The chai latte is also excellent here.
However there are a few things I don’t like. Firstly, I have to say kurtosh is pricey. A chimney cake would cost around $2AUD in Hungary and here it starts at $8 and goes up to $12 if you decide to get the Nutella option plus the toppings available. I have to admit I still wince when I fork over $10.50 for my favourite Nutella with cinnamon.
The cakes are a hit or a miss. They bake large slabs of cake and sell them at $6.50 a slice. The cake can be freshly baked that morning or it may have been sitting there for a few days. So the popular cakes, I assume the chocolate flavored ones, are generally safe but if you want a fruit cake or a cheesecake probably give it a miss because it can be stale and texture can be off. At $6.50 a slice I would have expected all the cakes to be freshly baked. So that is why I have learnt to only get the kurtosh which is made fresh when you order.
Finally, although the store closes at 10pm and from 9:30pm onwards you can only get beverages and cakes served in takeaway cups and boxes. I had to say I was disappointed as 30mins should be enough to serve one more sitting of dine in.

Having sweet cravings? Kurtosh are sweet flaky pastries that are coiled into a spiral and baked over flame then topped with pistachio, cinnamon, hazelnut or almond. They also serve a decadent one where they fill nutella inside the spiral. Oh my lord. so good. They also serve a wide array of cakes and good coffee too! I recommend the nutella in particular. Order a coffee and dunk your kurtosh pieces in. Love it. A good place to bring family and staff were very friendly. Coffee and sweets? if you're in Crows Nest try them out!
D. K.
Kurtosh is a dessert bar. Good coffee and cakes. For me the real appeal of this place is the venue - a great place to stop by with friends and have an afternoon coffee. The coffee is pretty good too.
J. A.
Great ambience, wasn't too crowded this time, great customer service.
Had decaffeinated cappuccino and mocca.
Mocca was exceptionally good. See pics.
This time I didn't have pastry, brownies or signature kürtőskalács.
J. W.
I used to love this place, but this time, I was disappointed. We had a pistachio kurtosh and a roasted hazelnut one, and both tasted way too doughy and lacked any kind of flavour. Didn’t taste like kurtosh at all! Moreover, service was really slow! We ordered two drinks and they arrived after at least 15 mins, while the place wasn’t even crowded. The staff were quite friendly though, which deserves some stars.
纪.
Tiramisu not supervised me. The strawberry one taste not bad.
H. L.
Good vibe and good cakes. Perfect for sharing. Chai latte is gingery and spiced, very delicious.
S. P.
Cosy and busy atmosphere. The cakes here are scrumptious! The Nutella kurtosh with cinnamon sugar dusting is my favourite! The selections of hot drinks are nice as well. The soy chai latte is high recommended as they infuse the tea leaves with the milk as they make it. The service can be a bit slow at times.

This place is great in every way, the location, friendly staff, spacious setting for keeping social distance, excellent coffee, and of course the amazing selection of pastries and cakes that are both delicious and original (different from the average options found in most other bakeries/cafes).
The cakes are available by weight, so you can choose how much/little you would like to eat. There are Gluten Free options available.
The flagship product (Kurtoshes) are baked and made to order... well worth the wait. If you have children, they can watch the process of making their own Kurtosh, which is a nice experience in itself
M. S. (.
A lovely coffee shop.
The coffee was great and there's a good selection of cakes that are generally sold by weight (so you can have as little or as much as you like!). There's also a selection of savoury pastries.
We had a Nutella Kurtosh, which is made fresh before you. It's yummy, different to the normal cafe fare, and big enough for sharing between at least a couple of adults if you're having tea or coffee.
The service was lovely and the double shop frontage means there's plenty of space, albeit with fewer tables at present due to social distancing.
S. F.
Nice cosy place to hang
They have real nice sweets, especially their donut
I tried their tea as well, a bit small for the price but great quality
S. L.
Ice Latte & hot chocolate
Chocolate almond croissant delicious.
J.
The only downside was deciding what to order. Soooo many pastries and cakes to choose from. Coffee was delicious. I had a tiny slice of the tiramisu, it was nice and light, with no alcohol, but I would have liked a stronger coffee taste. Love that you buy per the weight, I normally don't get a slice of cake with coffee as the slice is bigger than I'd like, so this was perfect. Cute decor. You can park at the Coles down the road.
T. H.
Dangerous that Kurtosh is local to me as I will always cave and go in for the Baked Cheesecake!! Definitely visit more than I’d like to admit.
Nice relaxing vibe and friendly staff!
The time people spend on negative feedback given on lighting or service, just stay home if you’re going to pick faults for the sake of. Or go eat outside on a sunny day if the lighting of this establishment isn’t to your standard. Amazes me that people are so critical to small businesses during Covid.
E. T.
Very nice interior. Kurtosh is consistent with any other branches. Service is ok.
J. W.
Amazing coffee and incredible cakes.
Friendly staffs and great atmosphere.
S. L.
Nice coffee and cakes. Good Clean store and friendly staff.
BUT...
100g Tiramisu costs $10 is pricey (imo)
Small latte $4.20
Cinnamon chimney cake $8 reasonable.
D. B.
A good range of cakes and pastries. Not overly comfortable to eat in. Dishwasher was broken and we had to use paper plates and cups. What happened to a sink and detergent?
H.
My favourite from Kurtosh is Espresso roll. Really nice!
Also Kurtosh bakes palmier exactly how I love…
To be honest, Kurtosh rolls are of course not as good as the ones I had from Praha, Czech (trdelnik) but cinnamon roll is still good.
I think we will go back every weekend to get espresso roll from now.
ADDITION:
Good to know that Kurtosh is Hungarian which is different! Still good though ☺️
N. W.
My favourite Kurtosh. Plenty of space and not usually overcrowded - unlike the sister stores south of the bridge.
Chimney cakes better than those in Hungrary in my opinion (not as bitterly cinamon). Great loose leaf tea and coffee is amazing as well
J. Q.
I’ve been here twice now.
The first time I came (~Aug 2020), the guy who seemed like the manager seemed pretty rude to his staff. But otherwise, the food was really good and the drinks were also nice too.
The second time I came (Jan 2020), I had no major complaints.
I like the concept of choosing the amount of grams you want per cake, but when storing the cakes it definitely isn’t the most attractive hahah. Lucky the cakes are reasonably nice.
I recommend the caramel (?) torte thing and the tiramisu. The chocolate (I think it was supposed to be mud) cake wasn’t that great. The Oreo cheesecake also wasn’t too special either. Also, as a reference, the box of 4 cakes in the pic were $20 in total.
A. M.
Lots of great deserts and nice tea
Always busy so getting a table can be a challenge.
We tried the Babka which was delicious tasting something like a Nutella croissant.
We got excited when we first saw the Trdelnik which took us back to our time in Prague but it was not the same dessert. Its a pity they didn’t serve ice cream or strawberry to make it more traditional. This is usually filled with ice cream, strawberry or chocolate.
A. C.
Great place to sit down to get a drink and some dessert. The dessert cakes are ordered by weight, so you can get the perfect portion you want. The palmier butterfly french pastry has a great buttery taste and good amount of sugar.
R. M.
After many months of passing this place and wondering what it's like we finally checked it out and... it's nice (not amazing) but what makes it special is their collection of amazing cakes which they sell by weight so you can get your slice cut and take it away. The star of the attraction is the kurtosh - we ordered the Nutella one and it was nice but quite doughy and for me lacked any real oomph to make it melt in your mouth or have you coming back each weekend. Worth a try for coffee and cake. The friendly service is a big plus here
s. e.
They have the best cakes and pastries. Love their raspberry cheesecake. Very patient staff and nice smell of coffee.
S.
Kurtosh is definitely one of my favourite dessert cafes. I’ve been here many times and have always left satisfied.
A. N.
The name Kürtősh comes from Kürtőskalács – a traditional Hungarian pastry famously known as chimney cake.
It was a nice cup of hot chocolate with kurtosh that made me write this review. Simple and tasty combination. The ambience of the shop was unique and peaceful. Its a good place to visit.
R. W.
Really like this cafe. They serve kurtosh which is very yummy pastry and my favourite is Nutella. Their coffee is very nice too. The service is good and the decor is very very special. Highly recommended!
a. m.
Kurtosh is definitely one of the places that offer amazing and delicious variety of cakes. Their coffee and tea are very good and the Nutella Kurtosh is a must try.
S. N. K.
A bit Noisy ( That bakery oven makes noise)
My Iced latte cup was something very creative
Liked Tiramisu.
Smell from Kurtosh is so good.
T. T.
Delicious cakes where you ask for a size and you pay per weight. Open late night for coffee which is awesome especially on the North Shore. Always reliable. Can be noisy. Good access for both prams and wheelchairs.
A. P.
Stumbled across this place after eating Japanese bbq. Their freshly made to order kurtosh is lovely, lightly sweet and crispy on the outside while pillowy soft in the inside served piping hot out of the oven. They also serve cakes by the gram to satisfy anyone's sweet tooth no matter what kind of serving they are after
S. M.
$5.40 for 100g cake slices, choose where to cut and how big of a slice. This place is just for coffee and cake, not licensed but an ideal location for an after desert from the surrounding restaurants you’ve just dined at. Quality of cake is 7/10 and a go to venue for myself.
J. L.
Thanks for your quick resolution, much appreciated Kurtosh staff and management team!
Extremely slow service, came on Saturday night which was surprisingly not busy. Ordered 3 kurtosh waited almost 25minutes for the 3rd one to come and was burnt.
L. A.
Hell yeah! So great to find a place where you can buy as much of a dessert and how many of them as you like. The concept is actually so awesome!
V. (.
Great ambience with high quality cakes and coffee. Cakes are sold per 100g. The layout is quite confusing as the café is "purchase first then served" as you get to point put the portion sizes. 10/10 cakes with friendly staff even on a Sunday arvo. [Good N.Sydney date location ;)]
R. N.
Tried it for the first time with a couple of girlfriends and we all liked it. Not sweet but delicious and loved the crispy texture of the dough .
M. G.
Always great to catchup for coffee and a huge selection of cakes by weight. And one of the few cafes on the North shore open till 10pm every day !
B. l.
Great little place. Hungarian chimney rolls!! Best I've had since Prague! Gets noisy though, so be aware.
P. W.
Lovely atmosphere with a rustic feel. Staff are all friendly, coffee and kurtosh are great! Will return.
R. H.
Not the type of place I would normally frequent, not being a cake enthusiast, but this was very nice. I had the apple, cinnamon, walnut cake, and a coffee. Nice interior at the back too, clean, comfortable. Köszönöm.
S. H.
The size of the cake can be customised to ensure that you do not gain weight. The texture is excellent. It's a lovely shop I'd like to go to on a regular basis. Dine-in is a rarity because it is always crowded and requires a wait. However, the wait is well worth it!
T. N.
Unassuming little place, very friendly team, great pastries and serve amazing coffee. If ever you are at Crows Nest check this place out!
B. G.
If you looking for cakes they stock many fresh cakes that baked daily little expensive but good enough. Great coffee too..
S. *.
Coffee and service are good. But that is all about it. I found their pastries and cakes a bit low in quality which is disappointing
D. S.
The go to place in Crows Nest for some cake and coffee/hot chocolate. A great variety of cakes to choose from, including gluten free options, just select how thick a slice you want and they'll weigh it and you pay accordingly.
It's a cozy, dimly lit place. Nice for chilling or a cosy respite with your partner on a cool winters day
V. N.
Highly recommend their pastries, so delicious! Avoid their raspberry cheesecake - bland flavour, did not enjoy it all, so disappointing. They price cakes by weight so be prepared to pay more than you bargained for. To their credit, lovely guy who served me offered to recut a slice to match my budget :)
B. N.
$7 for an iced latte this size and quality is just too much. I might have been charged incorrectly? I don’t know. Nevertheless it wasn’t a great experience.
I would have their pastries again but I will definitely go somewhere else for the coffee.
C. W.
Highly recommend the cinnamon and Nutella kurtosh! Bit of a wait but they need to spend a time frying it.
b. s.
hands down, one of the best cake shops in Sydney
K. B.
Had a coconut Kurtosh and ice coffee. Delicious, crunchy on the outside and soft on the inside. The slab cakes look amazing and taste tested a couple.
S. T.
Hands down for the price I've not found another store that comes close to the quality for cakes, tea and vibe. The store is great place. For afternoon tea to catch up with friends, honestly can't look past stopping by Kurtosh.
C. L.
There is no other place in sydney besides the Kürtosh chain that serves such authentic and delicious European desserts!
The wait can be quite long and it can get very, very crowded, but for me, the kurtosh here is always worth it!
R. W.
Nice atmosphere, feels very warming on a cold night. Coffee and drinks are good and the 'donut-like' kurtosh is delicious.
Cakes and the like are quite expensive, although some are very divine, especially the chocolate and cream cheese brownie..
P. I.
Def a 5 star for all the cakes and the nutella kurtosh, however, place is a bit dark, a bit more light would be better
K. N.
Love their cakes and coffe is always so nice and smooth☕️🍰
E. P.
SO gooood! Delicious chimney cakes, the caramelized hazel nuts was divine. Beautiful industrial decor and great service. To not miss!
C. T.
You cannot walk by this place without stepping inside. The sweet, smell of comforts draws you in and the ambience is delightful for just a quiet time or catch up with family and friends. I wish there were more places like this where you can have a bit if cafe culture mixed with nightlife. A new favourite of ours to visit in the local neighbourhood!
F. L.
Great place for dessert after dinner. Pay for cakes by weight. Most are $6.50 100g (small slice as they are dense). Carrot cake was flavourful and moist. Espresso roulade and tiramisu could've had stronger coffee flavour.
C. S.
Oh those chimney cakes - think as yummy as donuts, but air fried!
Industrial decor, service a bit hit and miss but any of their other pastries are pretty good too.
D. M.
Very nice desserts, good tea, and bad service. Unfortunately, it only takes one element to ruin the experience.
If you go, make sure you keep track of what they haven't given you and follow up, because they lose orders.
Edit: They did contact me after this to make it up to me. So they do have management who cares and is trying to improve.
C. L.
Comfortable cafe with nice decor and open late, popular for after dinner dessert or cute dates. You can choose the size of your cake and pay by weight, or get a chimney cake made to order. Staff are nice, filtered water on tap, clean bathrooms - deserves 5 stars! ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐
N.
Lovely cake shop with good coffees. If the concept of calories intakes does not exist, I would eat everything.
G. L.
Amazing place for coffee and cakes that opens till late. Friendly staffs and wonderful customer service. Keep it up guys! 👌🏼
S. S.
I have always loved Kurtosh and all the amazing desserts they offer but I give 3 stars because one of the staff who was serving me at the cake counter ruined it for us. After waiting for 5 minutes for someone to take our order (we could see the guy walking here and there without work maybe hoping that we would leave). He finally came to ask only very rudely “what do you want?” We really stepped out that day only to eat cake and lots of it. So we asked for the first cake, and once he was done cutting a piece and I could even say and.... he in a very rude tone, almost angrily asked “anything else?” And now imagine that tone for the 5 different cakes we ordered. At last when he asked anything else my husband couldn’t stop himself from saying I think you have done enough today my friend! We liked the cakes but by that point the whole experience was ruined and we left as soon as we could. I will though say that the barista was lovely and helpful when my 6 year old son asked him where can he get water, he came out and poured him a glass. I don’t think I will ever go back to Kurtosh though as I felt my family was discriminated against and that is one thing I have ZERO TOLERANCE for. And if really that was the purpose of the service to keep certain races out of your cafe then your mission is accomplished but I wonder what you are putting out there as a brand!
b. g.
Its a place for sweet tooth and savoury fans.
They have got cute little savoury bites with range of options from veg to non veg.
Also they got nice cakes and they sell it by it's weight which I found an interesting concept as one can pick a small bite from the options they have also it's fun to eat variety of them rather eating one big piece of same cake.
Loved their Tiramisu it's very authentic.
Also for diary free folks they have got quite a good options.
I strongly recommend this place.
S. D.
Delicious and worth the hype!
L. T.
This is a great all-round place: a great quiet space for working on your computer during the day, sharing a cake and a babyccino with your toddler or having a chat with your friends, and very lively in the evening. The food is really yummy and the manager and the regular staff are very kind and friendly.
L. B.
Really unique and fun desserts. The Nutella Kurtosh with cinnamon is the best. Massive range of other options too
K. G.
The kurtosh is delicious 😋, the ambience is spacious and beautiful, the staff are amazing, cheerful and friendly. Had the opportunity to witness how the employees were being taught how to make kurtosh and it is such a positive and calm approach. The savoury puffs are really good too. I usually enjoy a chai latte and kurtosh whenever I visit with the occasional spinach ricotta puff. Can't flaw them in anyway. My 6 and 3 year old love to come here too. Try it, you won't be disappointed!
K. H.
A delightful place for sweets and certainly it a wonderful place to just chill out and relax. Most of the selection are charged by weight so you CAN control your portion. sharp service.
S. C.
The interior is rustic and welcoming and the cake selection broad. And this place is busy, so it's easy to think the cake must be pretty good. But it's the sweetest, sickliest cake I've ever wished I didn't eat. So sweet that all I could taste was sugar. And my friends who bought two different cakes agreed. We had a typical chimney cake, a beetroot mouse slice and a flourless chocolate cake, all difficult to finish without feeling overwhelmed and unwell. So this place is definitely not for me. And one of my friends to ages to get served as the staff had no idea who was there first – not attentive service at all.
M. B.
First time at this Hungarian cafe/bakery.
I really enjoyed the rustic atmosphere and the variety of choices they offer. However I found the cakes overly sweet.
Also the prices shown are for the standard portion, you may get a larger piece and you will have to pay double. This might be obvious, but this was my first time there! I was asked -“do you want this piece?” -“Sure!” and I ended up paying for two portions. How would I know that’s not a normal size!!!
Anyway overall this is a nice place worth trying.
A. K.
This place is absolutely amazing. Delicious food and welcoming interior. You can easily grab a slice of cake and a coffee and use their free wifi for work or studying! The only downside is that it is a bit expensive, but not overpriced in comparison with the quality of food and drinks. I always look forward to a Kürtősh Oreo cheesecake slice and the relaxing atmosphere.
K. T.
Bloody amazing tiramisu and coffee here! Always visit when I'm in the neighborhood and recommend the cheesecakes also!
R. S.
Cake by weight, best.
Mum loved this place
J. H.
The tiramisu was a bit standard however the cookies and cream cake was so delicious!
T. M.
A lot of choices for cake and patisserie option.
The signature here is kurtosh.
I recommend almond kurtosh with hot drink.
A. H.
Nice cakes, however pricey. Service annoying and slow.
H. X.
The cake is great, I got the tiramisu and creamy cookie cheese cake.
However I want to share my opinion regarding a minor improvement for the service.
When I walk in I didn't pay attention to the signs which I asked just in case: " do we take credit card?"
For me this is a very common question and the most frequent answer I receive normally including "yes, we do", "of course", "sure thing", "sorry cash only" and so on.
The reply I received from the gentleman is
"of course, this is not an Asian shop".
Please be aware there were only three people in the room including two gentlemen works there, all of us are Asians. He also pointed out there is sign on the glass door state credit card is accepted.
Consider this is me being weird. I don't feel offended however I must say It is a very odd answer for a very simple yes/no questions.
As an Asian man I want to say this to the other two Asian men behind the counter: "live loud and be proud, if you are an Asian and running your own business then it is Asian shop. I would love to see you redefine Asian business by great product and outstanding service".
Your cake is great, you are good.
P. M.
Lovely service and great pastry and they make good coffee. 👍
E. T.
Use to be great but it's changed so much. This place use to serves great coffee, had beautiful decor in its rustic form, the chimney cakes are delicious and fresh and cakes charged by weight is awesome as you can have as much it as little as you like.
However, came here last month on a sunny Wednesday afternoon and it was dark and miserable inside. Lights weren't on, cake display barely stocked and to top it off, the place was manned by unsmiling, indifferent staff who acted like they really didn't want us there.
What happened to this great little gem???
T. D.
WOW. It's too much. Everything I have ordered has been a clean 11/10. The baked raspberry cheesecake, the flourless chocolate cake, the peanut butter & ganache. It's all out of control. YUM
G. B.
Best place to buy a slab of fresh delicious traditional dessert cake to take home. Choose the size and weight you want. Yummy.
V. G.
Great bakery with a huge selection of baked goods. Usually have some free tasters but the one to go for is the chimney scrolls. They usually make them fresh so place your order and expect a 20 minute wait. However there’s enough places on Willoughby Road to visit while it’s being made fresh. If it’s you’re first time, try the Nutella and pistachio one. You won’t regret it!!!
K. V. M.
You can try as many cakes as you want, and choose what size you want, and they weigh it... how much more fun can that get! My friend got 2 of the tiniest slivers of cake and they were still cool with it. The coffee is also great.
A. C.
It's open long hours which is great, but there's zero both gluten & milk free treats!
Update in response to owner:
Yes, I did ask and there were only gluten free options, but none that were both gluten & milk/dairy free.
d. s.
Not as delicious as the desserts looked ! Tried the Tiramisu today and could hardly taste anything...
G. P.
My all time go to for amazing fresh cake slabs and krutosh of course... its a great place and highly recommend it..
D. D.
Came here after lunch today and it was perfect. We had a group of ten including some kids so having the freedom to choose a bunch of types of cakes in small and large portions was great!
We had a peanut butter and choc cake, lemon cheesecake, baked cheesecake and mums choc cake and they were all delicious and fresh. Staff were attentive and quick to help.
From outside the kids can look in the prep window and see some of the chocolate being worked with, if you are there at the right time.
Strongly recommend
M. B.
Normally their Baked Cheese cake is good but todays one bit over cooked but its ok, my baby daughters loved it.
A. B.
In love with this place! Pay by weight so you can indulge or just have a little taste. Great for bringing treats to the office as you can get a great mix. Normally have 3 gluten free options the trio mousse (yum!), flourless chocolate (very rich) & orange flourless. Often have people working from here during the day or reading while enjoying a treat, can get very busy on the weekend.
K. T.
Such yummy treats and great to purchase by weight - means you can get small slices of lots of different cakes. Coffee is good too. Q nice place top come for dessert - it's open late for the area.
R. B.
Could you please buy a second cashier machine! It is just horrible to see every time about two or three people are using the same machine for different people in the line...there is no order on who is doing what...They are all trying to be very nice and polite but it is just not easy for those who work there either... Cakes are overprice but very yummy and drinks have always been great! We will be back but hoping to see some improvements.
L. C.
I had the pistachio Kurtosh and a large hot chocolate. Both were delicious! Didn’t have to wait long for the kurtosh to be prepared and baked. Service was great too.
T. N.
Food: EXCELLENT
Service: comically inept. Staff appeared untrained (not their fault). Obvious lack of operational systems leading to unnecessarily long waits to order, pay, etc.. despite not being that busy when we went. Need some serious training again.
Voucher - couldn’t be used due to the internet “not working”. Minimal covid-safe measures in place - no forced check-in at entry, etc.
Shop: good location and beautifully fitted-out, but RIDICULOUSLY noisy inside, due to no soft surfaces anywhere. Would definitely visit more often if a guaranteed headache wasn’t part of the deal..! Sorry guys but acoustics isn’t that complicated.
J. H.
Nice location and setting. Not too noisy so a great place to catch up with friends. Excellent coffee. Great treats. Definitely worth a visit, especially for an after meal treat if you’re in the area for dinner.
M. S.
We have mixed feelings about Kurtosh. We ordered cake, Kurtosh with almonds & latte. We tasted too Mum's cake. The cake was good, the coffee was average, and the Kurtosh was fresh but didn't taste good. The service was very good. I don't think we will go again there.
K. M.
First time here .. got a few different slices to have for a birthday cake. The service was amazing and the server placed them beautifully on a platter for me. The cakes were delicious and great coffee !
S. M.
Cakes are sold by weight $50 per kg. You just point out to the staff how big of a portion you want. My favourite is their tiramisu. Just the perfect cream to sponge ratio. I prefer a tiramisu that has more cream!
H. I.
Kürtősh is the best place ever to have a dessert nice environment and staff.
A gentle, polite and very welcome guy called "Ben" served us, literally we enjoyed every single moment that we spent there.
Highly recommended for everyone!

First visit to Kurtosh with family today. A rainy Sunday but easily found tables for 10 of us. A good selection of cakes to choose from and interestingly, you pay by the gram. Most cakes seemed to be about $4.50 per 100gm. We tried the chocolate and peanut butter cake (stand out!), lemon crumble cheesecake, mum's chocolate cake, passionfruit cake, a baked cheesecake and a cookies and cream cheesecake. All very tasty. Coffee was good too.

Love this Hungarian/Eastern European style cafe in Crows Nest. Really yummy cakes (sold by weight - also interesting!) and the real Kurtosh that I had in Prague and Budapest. Great place for a meetup/afternoon alone doing some work.
G. M.
Great coffee and service! Cakes look amazing.
T. B.
My favourite Crows Nest venue. Exceptional array of desserts, pay by portion. Very easy to overindulge here and get lost in the ambience of their cafe setting.
Quiet and private, great to read the newspaper or work from a corner.

I walked past and couldn't resist to try Kürtőskalác and a cup of coffee. Found that the cinnamon/sugar Kürtőskalác was pretty authentic (lived for 2 years in Hungary). I think the most important thing is that it is freshly prepared and hot when you enjoy it. As soon as it is cold it is soggy. My coffee was also very tasty. I cannot comment on the rest of the cakes but I would not order them if I have the choice to order steaming hot Kürtőskalác... the interior is also cozy and perfect for rainy afternoons.
K. D.
The cafe itself is very dark, almost gloomy. It doesn't appeal to me to have my coffee there. So usually I have take away. I love the Tiramisu, Baked Cheesecake and of course the Kurtosh. I have to say it is quite pricey though. As of lately the quality of the Kurtosh has decreased significantly. Last time mine was almost burned...
T. W. A. -. J.
Awesome cake shop. Great selection of cakes to keep it varied, and or course, their famous chimney cakes. My favourite is the nutella chimney cake with pistachios. Staff are always helpful even when it's super busy
S. C.
This place is great - it's like cake heaven, only better. The cakes on offer are scrumptious and they often have samples to try too. The slab cakes are amazing and you can have as little or as much as you want, because the price is based on weight. It's a great way to have a cake-tasting plate. The Kurtosh are the best and you can watch them being made right before your very eyes. These Hungarian curly yeast pastries are like a light cross between a croissant, brioche and a doughnut and highly addictive! There are lots of different varieties to try! The coffee alone is worth a visit and check out the humungous Nutella jar in the window!
G. B.
Delicious pistachio kurtosh, recommend that you try it!
B. J.
First impression was "SPACIOUS"!
Tables don't seem to be in the way. Can get around them easily, with enough space spare. These tables were placed around the place with 4 stools on each. Obviously ok for a coffee and cake, but not to stay for too long.
The place is clearly divided into the "Sweet" area, and the "Coffee" area. Both areas very clean, very tidy.
I saw less people on the coffee area, so I went there for service. The lady behind the counter said that all orders were to be done on the register. But that she will be happy to help us with the process.
One register, five staff trying to get their turn on the register, five different set of clients on the other side of the counter waiting for their respective staff member to get their turn on the register. It was busy, but not that busy to justify the waiting to place the order. Maybe a second register would help the clients to be served faster.
Coffee was divine!! I do not know what brand was used, but my Latte had the right amount of coffee versus the right amount of creamy milk and the right amount of foam on top. The bitterness of the coffee was strong, but not overbearing. I really enjoyed that coffee!!
Now the food was "HEAVEN!!". My friends shared a Cookies and Cream Cheese cake that stopped the conversation right at the first bite!. No Kidding!!.. it was that good!!
I had the Hungarian "Kurtosh" which I loved when I was in Hungry last October. This one was absolutely delicious!. the softness of the bread, and the crunchiness and sweetness of the crust. I loved it!...
The only item I did not enjoy was the "Palmier". It was nothing like the original. Not a toasted sugar crunchy filo, but more a bread with a toasted outside.
I will definitely be back. I enjoyed it so much. I also noticed that there are one in Surry Hills, and one in Randwick, so I may get to one of these ones closer to me.
A solid 4 stars!
M. T.
Good coffee great chocolate fudge cookies
Great place to bring young kids
W. A.
Great customer service. Missed the Nutella in our dessert. Promptly offered us free drinks on the house and an extra corrected dessert. Will be back soon
A. S.
Cute cute cafe in crows nest, heaps of cakes that you are able to choose your own slice size and pay per gram, very smart if you want small pieces so you can try them all!!! Awesome place to get some work done and collaborate, staff are really friendly and the ambiance is really nice! The nutella log and chai tea here is the bomb!
N. D.
Amazing coffee, great service but always full so if you are visiting do keep extra time in case you need to wait. The kurtosh is a nice variety to have so definitely worth a try
C. M.
Unique Cafe in Sydney :) This is one of my favorite cafes in Sydney and I am so happy that is so close to my work. TRY FOR SURE THE NUTELLA KURTOSH and make sure you have friends with you because this is huge!! They also have amazing and affordable cakes and the coffee is great (make sure to have you coffee made by Miss Tiga, excellent barista). If you are craving for an afternoon coffee and there is no place opened due to the laziness of locals.. don't worry, Kurtosh has hard working and friendly staff open till late night daily. <3
C. M.
Delicious "chimney cakes" - the amazing love child of a churro and a cinnamon roll. Also available - cakes by weight. When you want a sampler platter of sugary goodness but don't want to hate yourself after
S. W.
The serving queue can be a dog's breakfast; jungle law ensues. The situation can be exacerbated by the server randomly asking anyone looking at the display counter if they are ready to order.
Cakes, pastries and coffee, once navigated, are delicious.
J. L.
Interesting cafe. Left of centre. Owned by an Israeli, French and Italian? And run by Asians. Finally Hungarian chimney cake in Sydney! Good variety if cakes too. Inside is quite industrial so be aware it will get loud in here - the place would do with some sound deadening
G. C.
Kurtosh is a great place for everyone with a sweet tooth. You can buy a whole range of cakes, slices and other desserts in any quantity as its charged by weight. The cookies & cream cheesecake I had was delicious.
G. M.
Waited 30mins for our cronut because they burnt the first one. The place wasn’t even that busy so they should have been more efficient and aware to what was happening with their cooking. One positive was that they had sample pieces of a baked cheesecake put for us to take and try
L. B.
Great cinnamon kurtosh (very filling, recommend to share). Good lime meringue tart and mum's chocolate cake. Disappointing cream cheese brownie. Nice environment, open late.
A. G.
One of my favourite places to get a no-booze tiramisu. Service is always brisk but if you go at peak times, then be prepared for a queue!
S. M.
Love the funnel cones. Nutella is divine. They also allow you to buy desert by the gram so you can try lots of different things. It is dangerous to have such a yummy desert place so close to where we live.
T. S.
Great atmosphere, the Kurtosh was warm and soft but a bit pricey
S. H.
Good range of cakes that you buy by the gram, which is excellent if you only want a small piece. Coffee however was bitter.
K. K.
I come at 10.01, 9.58pm and ask for takeaway coffee and always say we are closed sorry althu they leave people for longer inside, and technically I came before closure
Update :
I came after 10 after the manager reply and they actually served me coffee, couldnt be happier 🥰
h. d.
delicious all day and every day you can buy your fav, cakes by the 100 gms great coffee and tea . this is a lovely place to go and enjoy the vibes and just relax into the atmosphere with your cake and coffee and company.
C. F.
Pricey but have the most delicious desserts! The atmosphere and ambience of this place in the evening when the locals have finished dinner and flocked to this store is an experience on it's own. Highly recommend!!
M. H.
The coffee is consistently good and I love the rhubarb crumble cake BUT it is a little expensive over all. It’s a busy and often noisy place. I’d opt for take away over eating in.
D. V.
I am always surprise with the good quality of food that they sell here. Very good customer service and coffees too. The venue was pretty full which it gives good expectations for the customers to come. Thank you.
C. B.
Kurtosh in Crows Nest is a nice spot for an afternoon tea / coffee and any selection of their tasty kurtosh staples. I have an affinity toward their cheesecakes, which are always moist and creamy (especially the baked one, mmm). Their coffee and service is always reasonable, and they deliver with a smile. Decor has a rustic feel but is also quite dark for a cafe.
I have also ordered much larger slices of cake (cake-sized, in fact) without any trouble (and without pre-ordering!).
P. O.
Brilliant concept. Tried some of their yummy cookies. Definitely worth a try and great for take away sweets.
K. W.
YUMM I love the pastries they serve here
very authentic !!!!
S. A.
Their kurtosh is a must have. I've never had something like that before and the ambiance is perfect to sit down for a coffee and chat
O. F. A.
Really like it. Open late, wonderful cakes sold by weight and excellent coffee too.
M. M.
I really liked the atmosphere, it felt very european. The barista made a great coffee. I have never had a kurtosh before, it was nice but different.
H. D.
Chimney cakes are very traditional in Hungary and central Europe and the chimney cakes here are very good. I also love the other cakes and the coffee is pretty good as well.
M. A.
Decent coffee, great baked cheese cake, friendly staff and nice decoration. Ideal place for spending a rainy afternoon...
T. A.
If you are into desserts like me then this is one of the places to go. It's not designed to sit though, just enjoy it quickly and have to go.
M. R.
Great cake and coffee, but their service system needs to change. No one keeps track of who's next and the servers just serve the first person they look at. Makes getting cake a bit stressful.
T. S.
The Kürtősh is a real treat and the coffee is decent.
All the other pastries I tried were disappointing.
The staff is quite nice, but the service might be a little slow.
G. K.
Really great selection of cakes and pastries, but better watch out, the kurtosh takes some time... That chocolate butter coffee almond Roulade thing - excellent.
张.
Nice place for afternoon snack..
F. M.
Great food and atmosphere but heavily understaffed. For the amount of people in the venue at night you could use an extra person or two... just a thought!
W. F. E.
The latest delight in Sydney seems to be Kurtosh, a sugary, flakey bread. I don't know. If I was going to opt for a tasty carb/sugary treat I may have to prioritise a rhubarb crumble with a side of ice cream or a creme caramel or a tasty mango pudding. But I suppose Kurtosh is something new and there are other wonderful chocolatey delights to sample as well. My friends were almost orgasming over the desserts
J. L.
This is a hidden gem.. amazing sweet bread with flavour for days!
T. S.
Great selection of cakes priced by weight, so you can taste small pieces of more of those sweet delights. Love it.
G. B.
Baked cheesecake and the dark chocolate orange cake were good, as well as the kürtöskalács. The place has a nice atmosphere for a coffee.
D. s.
Coffee is smooth and creamy. Always got my coffee there when I worked in crows nest. Best part, they have unattended samples on the counter. Their mistake.
A. C.
Best coffee, delicious savoury pastries, Kurtosh & cakes - Yum!
L. Y.
interesting, but still too sweet for me
B. D.
Pros: Great cake pieces by weight.
Cons: Very expensive. And would give nighmares to dentists and dieticians alike. Not particularly inventive, other than being full of cream, sugar & chocolate.
L. J.
This is my favourite place to call into for dessert in Crows Nest. The chimney cakes are delicious - and they have a great selection of teas.
P. B.
The cinnamon Kurtosh is delicious !! One of the best desserts I've EVER HAD. YUMMMMM
c. h.
Tasty pastries & good service
L. T.
Great coffee, fantastic atmosphere. Staff are very friendly and the cakes WOW. But the thing to try is the kürtósh, cinnamon is my favorite
S. H.
Cakes and pasrties are always fresh and tasty. Love having a coffee with cake there.
A. J.
Mad deserts! coffee is average but damn 5 stars as the hand made fresh Kurtosh deserts filled with Nutella covered in hazelnuts.Brilliant just brilliant.
R. R.
People rave about this place, but it's slightly overrated in my opinion. Sure, the sweets are nice, but they ain't cheap! Seating isn't particularly comfortable either, so average rating.
R. S.
Yummy Kurtosh!!! I always crave for it whenever I want some pastries. I feel that some of their drinks are expensive for the quality though. Overall, i would still go back just for the Kurtosh and the other interesting pastries.
R. B.
One of the great dessert shops. Often free samples of the wonderful cakes, and there’s savoury pastry as well.
M.
Nice place to have a coffee and a desert. They do some funny bread with a hole inside which I did not try however the chocolate bowl was very good.
M. M.
Amazing selection of cakes. Love how you can pick how much you want of each cake.
G. D.
Truffle wasn't great, but the mousse and the ginger meringue was delish. Great vibes, but always hard to get a seat.
T. C.
Very delicious tiramisu and Nutella croissant
Very friendly staff
Sure worth coming back again
E. S.
In terms of ambience, this is a great place to catch up with friends. Their hot drinks are not good and I don't even like their Polish donuts, to be honest.
F. B.
Great coffee and cakes. Quite a cosy place to sit down or quick visit for takeaway. Must try chimney cake with Nutella!
K. v. S.
Delicious desserts, so many options. The cinnamon Kurtosh is a must
J. C.
Kurtosh has a great selection of desserts and cake! I love going there for a late night coffee. The worst thing is the queues!
E. M. W.
Big and spacious with popular spiral cakes and more! Their other cakes are also sold by weight which lets you try more :)
R. S.
Yum! Good service, great desserts and so much choice! Excellent coffee too. Luv it.
M. I.
They give Cheesecakes by kilo! .. must try baked cheesecake while you are here!
J. H.
Excellent cakes by the kilo. I mean 100grs...
Having a hard time choosing between flourless chocolate or mom's chocolate cakes.
G. F.
Good place for friends continuing catch up after meal. Offer various cake desserts
M. S.
Best dessert in Crows Nest. Love that you can buy by the grams so you can try multiple offerings.
c. m.
Flourless cakes are phenomenal and the coffee + service is great. Perfect place to end a dinner date.
J. G.
Its a great place for sweet tooth and savoury fans. Kurtosh never disappoints. Highly recommend
N. C.

H. W.
Great range of deserts and good tea /coffee. Service is sometimes slow but still good.
G. S.
Always very nice pastries and i love the connamon kürtősh!
One thing would make it 5 stars - ouside tables.
R. K.
The Oreo cake is to die for!! Highly recommend this place for anyone with a sweet tooth
C. C.
Offers a variety of cakes, sold by weight. Try their nutella kurtosh ($9.50)!
M. W.
I have two friends who go here and stuff their faces with cake almost every day. The rhubarb crumble is amazing.
L. R.
The Kürtősh didn't have enough Nutella, it looked like it is a plain dessert.
A. S.
Loved the Kürtőskalács. This place has lots of mouth watering pastry selections. The atmosphere is great.
S. G.
Is a nice atmosphere and fairly good food, had good experiences although the chocolate cake I most recently had was a bit of a disappointment.
V. H.
Love the tiramisu + great service from the lovely Asian guy!
E. G.
No one clean tables.
V. V.
The cakes are really good, it's a pity that the service is not that good.
The 3 chocolates mousse is one of the best.
N. N.
