Comments of Kürtősh - Randwick

They have tasty cakes and croissants. This is the raspberry croissant and the raspberry cheesecake. Had their kurtosh before and they're really nice. Cakes a bit on the pricier side at $6.5 per 100g. Haven't been here in a while due to having some bad experiences last year but everyone was really nice this time
K. L.
Love kurtosh been coming back here for their wide range of delicious cake slabs. But the other day was the first time having their signature chimney cake! Crispy caramelised flaky outer layer, with soft inner walls, soft tender pull that falls apart with ease.
That day we watched the process of how it was made from the kneading of the dough to the torching of the sugar and coating of hazelnut. The dough effortlessly coils around the rolling pin ready to be baked to sweet golden goodness. It’s hard not walk past and get a whiff of the sweet pastry smell. The staff were so friendly and accomodating, prompt service and very clean with with their processes.
My personal opinion is to get a cinnamon scroll with Nutella middle, the perfect sweetness. However if you have a severe sweet tooth go for the loaded toppings with the choice of hazelnut and pistachio with the Nutella centre just be mindful that there is an extra layer of caramelisation to keep the topping on. My go to cake slab is always a cheesecake and this raspberry cheesecake was just divine! Sweet however tinge of tartness and sourness from the raspberry creates the perfect balance ! If you don’t have much of a sweet tooth they have some savoury pastries to!

What a nice chill cafe for a hot drink and cake. Stopped here as I was early for a movie and really like that they’re open late (close at 10). Really convenient if you want to have a hot drink late instead of a bar.
They’ve got a nice selection of cakes too and the atmosphere is chill.
J. L.
First saw kurtosh or chimney cakes in the markets of Budapest & Prague years ago and was fascinated by them. Tried the nutella kurtosh here for the first time and it was divine. Crispy and flaky on the outside and soft on the inside. Just wanted to add that the girl who made our kurtosh was friendly and warm. Thank you! Brings back great memories of Europe. 😊
P. M.
Amazing place for some sweets and coffee. The cakes are delicious and the staff is friendly. Highly recommended this cafe to everyone
U. V.
One of the best desserts in Sydney. They have amazing ambience which feels very homely. Their hot chocolate, tiramisu and red Velvet cake is incredible. If you haven't tried Kurtosh yet, you are missing out!
P. C.
If you are ever feeling nostalgic for traditional European pastries and cakes, Kürtósh will transport you to an old town medieval city with its tasty treats. Kürtósh is especially famous for their Chimney Cakes which are all handmade in front of you and take about ten minutes to make. They also have a variety of slab cakes which they sell per piece and are priced by weight. You can also get hot beverages to go.
K. B.
Such an amazing selection of cakes, pastries and chimney cakes. Spent hours deciding what to order because I wanted everything :D Ended up getting the chocolate twist, a slice of the walnut tea cake and the hazelnut truffle slab. All excellent! Great coffee too and lovely staff.
K. O.
A great place to get your sweet tooth and coffee fix. Kurtosh is located in many places in Surry hills, Randwick, Darling Square, etc. Glad that there is also another Kurtosh located at The Spot in Randwick.
They served traditional hungarian pastry famously for their chimney cake.
They also have nice pastries and cakes baked daily and it goes well with their Mecca coffee that they used.
Love the idea of choosing your own choice of cake and there is a wide variety of it. All the cake here are by size and weight so you can try many different cakes at once and size that you desire. Highly recommend the cookies and cream, tiramisu and Espresso butter, Almond Chocolate Roulade & Olive and Carrot Cake flavours. They are my favourite. It's a a great place to chill with friends over some cakes, pastries and coffee.
V. X.
Kürtősh offers nice and traditional Hungarian pastry Kürtőskalács (famously known as chimney cake) and abundant other types of cake sold by weight (This is fantastic because you can have many small cake collections in one box). The hot served chimney cake has the caramelised crispy flaky outer with soft inner walls. It is baked to sweet golden perfection & rolled in chopped nuts, chocolate or spices for added texture & flavour.
Ordered one hazelnut chimney cake which tastes healthy with a slightly sour flavour and is not too sweet. Have also tried a range of other cakes in my many visits here. Though little disappointed with the tiramisu – not enough liqueur, cream was overwhipped and lack of true richness and flavour, I really like their raspberry cheesecake and strawberry & pistachio sponge.
e.
my fave was the cinnamon kurtosh by far! so warm and fresh, cant beat it.
check out my foodie blog @erinxeats for more!
D. G.
Kurtosh is nice..but the coffee is not so good..maybe barista needs training?
I ordered 2 lattes, and this is what I got.
R. “. R.
You go to Kurtosh to eat 'Kurtosh ' and there was none at 920 pm on a Saturday? Staff too busy cleaning up and preparing to shut shop. The cakes we ate were good however!
E. N.
Great cakes. I like how you can choose how big the size of the cake you would like and they will cut it for you as required. However you have to find your own place if it’s get crowded.
L. L.
Very authentic vibe to the place. Great that the cakes are served by weight - especially if you’d like to try a variety or are alone.
The chocolate fudge cookie felt more like a giant macaron to me than a cookie or even a brownie. Delicious nonetheless.
We ordered the cinnamon Kurtosh which had a great outer texture, but lacked flavour & a little dry - would be amazing if they could serve it with a caramel dip!
The mushroom and onion pastry was disappointing as there was very little filling. But the pastry alone was yummy!
Not a perfect score, but somewhere I’d definitely give a second chance to!
V. L.
Have to try their pastries, we pretty much love all (spinach n mashed potatoes are best for savoury and the raspberry yum) and the cheesecakes (raspberry is my fave) Coffee so so... Come in the morning for fresh pastries!
B. K.
Great , delicious, flavour bombs and ever changing variety of cakes!
Don't forget their signature Kürtősh!
Social distancing rules means far fewer seats available for dine-in, so consider getting your pastries as take-aways instead.
K. T.
Excellent place for tea or coffee and dessert treats! Have tried a number of things on offer including the mud cake, tiramisu and baked cheesecake, all fantastic! Recommend their spice tea for that caffeine free option :)
K. W.
Had a cinnamon kurtosh to go... fresh and nice. However quite a number of flies in the cakes display area, so I avoided the cakes totally.
T. L. K.
One question, what are the cakes so good? The space is quite small, but that’s what I love about it, and it’s just next to Ritz Cinema Randwick, so make sure you check this out when going for a movie at cinema !!!
C. B.
Yum yum yum! The last time I had Kurtosh was 10 years ago in Hungary! This Kurtosh was so delicious. Highly recommend.
P. S. S. (.
Love the warm, dim atmosphere. Great place to have a little small bites and hydration after a long movie.
N. T.
The cakes are all amazing. The poppy seed and cherry cake is to die for. It's fun to see the bakers make the kurtosh. Staff are friendly.
K. A.
Our cheesecake was so tasty !! however 14$ for a lil square of it is very pricey..
C. R. C.
Can’t believe I haven’t review this place
Been to this place couple of years ago and still visit when I’m in the area.
The Kürtőskalács itself or chimney cake some may say is the most intriguing factor that makes me visit Kurtosh at the first place.
But the selection of cakes and the way we can purchase it by grams makes me come back for more!
Love love love
C.
Amazing pastries and sweets and always friendly service! Their chimney cake is a must try and I love their biscuits and pastries! Get there earlier in the day for the pastries as they usually sell out first.
R. S.
Great value for money!! Their Nutella kurtosh with pistachios was sublime!
A. H.
Nice small cafe in a quite area of randwick. Their house speciality is kürtösh, a kind of thin deep fried bread. Friendly service and nice atmosphere.
A. D.
Dessert by the kilogram ... yeah I am in. So many cakes to choose from and they cut off little slices of whatever you want.
The coffee was below average.
S. Y.
Their special chimney cakes are made fresh and hot, with a crispy exterior but fluffy dough on the inside. I always go for the cinamon topping which is their classic, but they have different options too.
A. B.
I love this place and go almost daily.
Not only are the cakes amazing, the pastries (savoury and sweet) are the best I've had. Then theres the chai lattes - YUM.
The service is great and the staff are always so welcoming.
T. W.
Amazing little coffee and cake shop that I stumbled upon walking home. Great staff, will defo come back.
J. G. (.
Neat little cafe. Good coffee and some good food! Would like to come back again if only my stay here was longer.
k. r.
First time going to Kurtosh and after all the reviews we were really excited. We bought 1kg of different cakes to sample everything and some pastries and coffee. First impression on walking in did not start great. The lady serving us (I didnt get her name but she was asian with glasses and a bit of an accent ?canadian ?US) was sooo moody like she didnt want to be there and it was a massive bother because we were thinking too long (there was no one else waiting). Anyway the walnut cake was absolutely try and not worth even eating, the mousse cake was nice, the raspberry cheesecake was nice but wayyyy too much sugar, the baked cheesecake was medium, the tiramisu was more a chocolate cream cake and definitely not a tiramisu, the strawberry sponge cake was bland just dry sponge with jam, the espresso almond log was nice, and all the pastries were nice but very oil but great flavours like smashed potato and capsicum and feta. Coffee was good. So all in all very disappointed. Would not get any of the cakes again, its not worth it, too much sugar and dry tasting, and I eat cakes pretty much every day. Coffee was good, maybe if Im around Id get one. But definitely need to work on the customer service! Not only that but she stuffed the cakes as much as she could in tiny boxes so they were all mixing in together and hard to eat.
Will definitely not be back. Id recommend bake bar by far. Much better customer service and care.
F.
Love the way they weigh the cake for pricing, very great value.
P. Z.
Love this little cafe!! Discovered it about a month ago and i am always wanting to go back. The cakes are mouth-watering and surprisingly not too sweet. Would definitely recommend this cafe for morning tea or an evening dessert!
S.
Been coming to the Randwick location for years and I've had amazing customer servise and the cakes and pastries have been delightful. The people are so lovely and kind and the atmosphere is beautiful and relaxed. I've never felt rushed and have plenty of wonderful memories!
H. C.
Lovely little shop with a nice atmosphere.
They also have a great selection of delicious cakes and pastries.
I can't get over with the chocolate fudge cookies.
If you are looking for excellent baked goods and a decent coffee then look no further. This is just the right place.
E. R.
I’ve come here for years and always loved it but tonight at 9:10pm they refused to serve us in anything but disposable coffee cups and boxes to sit in as they were “closing at 10pm”. Seems a little bit ridiculous to stop serving on plates and cups 50 minutes before closing time and creates so much unnecessary waste in a time where we need to be a lot more environmentally conscious. I’ve never experienced this before and really hope it’s not a reoccurring issue!
B. C.
Best pastries in Sydney. A must go to!
o. l.
We had the beet root chocolate mousse it was sensational good quality ingredients and great value
S.
Home away from home! Love my almond chai latte and carrot cake. Great staff! They know my order and just ask whether I'd like a regular or large 😄
U. W.
Excellent selection of cakes and other baked products.. We really loved the tiramissu, cheese cake. Coffee is excellent as well. All cakes are measured and charged and you could select your own size. Only downfall is that they start closing at 10:00pm. So you need to time your dinner..
K. M.
This place has a great selection of delicious cakes and they even offer tasters on the counters. I love the chocolate fudge cookies! Priced by weight, so you can get the size you want. This place is a must when in Randwick!
W. B.
Some very nice pastries and cakes here - and they always have a little selection on the counter for you to try (to 'help' you decide on what you should get). The cakes are cut based on how large a piece YOU want, which is great, since this means you only get what you think you can actually eat (meaning nothing is left o the plate once finished haha). The coffee is pretty good, and the staff are all very nice. Great place for a cake and coffee!
A. T.
Put simply - I love this place. The cute decor, the beautiful little tea pots and the cakes - oh wow! It's great that there are also some gluten free cakes on offer too. Highly recommend the Duo Mousse - my absolute favourite! Well worth a visit.
D. J. C.
Good cakes but palmier is average. Nice feel though. Well one star more for real chai latte that is a rare find among fake far too sweet syrup chai in Sydney. Can eat your cake by weight- so hopefully not over eating
J. P.
Hands down one of the best dessert places I've been to in Sydney! I adore their coconut ice cream, their rice pudding, as well as most of their desserts. The prices aren't cheap, but definitely worth it given how high the quality is. The place also looks fresh and clean.
D. D.
Love their wide selection of cakes and you can ask for whatever size you want. They charge their cakes by weight. I've been there a few times now and staffs have always been very friendly. The setting of the place is quite cozy for sitting in. Or else, you can have your cakes and hot beverage for takeaways.
K. L.
I don't want to leave Sydney until I've tried every flavour!
Very attentive and helpful service at the counter. Gorgeous range.
You can have a tint 50g piece for about $2.50, which let's you enjoy a few!
Strawberry sponge and baked cheesecake, yum!
G. K.
Not just because it is Hungarian but please do yourself a pleasure and try this!!! It made me home sick straight away! Beautiful taste thanks again!
J. D.
We walked into this place after an amazing dinner at thai-riffic next door to this cafe. I was very excited to try this cafe as the reviews were exceptional. The concept of cake/slice by the gram is great! I walked out with about 500g of various cakes all of which were exceptional. The staff were very friendly and engaging. All I can say is this concept should be rolled out Australia wide. Highly recommended. Thank you for a great experience.
J. K.
Love this cafe. Fantastic range of cakes, just point, choose how much you want, and pay by weight. Just try to make sure your eyes are not bigger than your stomach. And your wallet. Great coffee too.
T. H.
Great desert items. Delicious comparing with normal store. Iced coffee also good and they served in a jur which was nice. Little bit busy and hard to find table if u go in rush hour.
A. N.
Great coffee, amazing service and definitely mind blowing sweets. Definitely recommend a foodie who wants to relax and pass time here.
S. H.
It is a good thing we live far away from this bakery, otherwise I would be there everyday!!! Everything about this place is awesome...pastry, cakes, coffee and kurtosh plus lovely setting and service.
J. f.
Really nice art house coffee and cake bar. So many homemade cakes to choose from, the price is kind of expensive but considering that they have much to choose from and it's all homemade makes it worth the money.
Could do with a little bit of a cleaner look, not completely to my taste
A. W.
Delicious place for afternoon tea. Highly recommend the coconut mouse and raspberry coulis cake. Cakes by weight so u may over order (as we did) but are easily able to be converted to takeaway.
Kurtosh being made in the window and wonderful baking aromas add to the atmosphere.
Plenty of space for prams and noisy atmosphere covers baby noises.
Crazy busy on a Sat night...
J. L.
Kurtosh has some delicious items on the menu. All the kurtosh and cakes are very tasty. Though I found that the quality of food, drinks and service went down significantly when management changed a few years ago. The chai latte is awful, and it’s hard to get chai latte wrong. In the summer time there are often flies all over the food. The seating is also most uncomfortable for larger groups. The Spot in Randwick is a great location though.
M. A. G.
I love this place. It's always a good idea to visit you guys!❤️❤️❤️❤️
K. B.
Great coffee. Love the samples of cakes they have available. Cakes and sweet are pay per gram so you can pick your serving size.
V. T.
The most amazing dessert place in Sydney. Cakes are to die for, which you buy by the weight. Their signature coils are a definite must! Also one of the best coffee places in Sydney. Very relaxed and not crammed with tables which is a nice change.
W. J. O.
Great cake options! Now you're able to enjoy your cuppa there, limited capacity though for obvious reasons! Great staff service
g. t.
It's rare that you find a cafe which serves consistently good cakes & coffees throughout the day from breakfast till late.
This cafe is my go to especially during the odd time of 3pm - 6pm when most cafés shut & most restaurants have yet to open for dinner.
Cosy interiors & friendly staff add to the appeal. Pricing is reasonable & calculated by weight of cake so I often sample small slices of various types if I'm peckish. The strawberry sponge is perfection as is the orange marble cake. Downside is they don't have any solid savory dishes.
Tip: You can order larger portions of cake for takeaway - perfect for parties & group picnics!
E. L.
Being a sweet addicted, I cannot help but enjoy a little dessert in this venue after an evening out in Randwick. Whether is after a dinner or before a movie, this place is perfect at every occasion.
L. T. M.
We are addicted to this place! The cakes are sooo delicious. The 'kurtosh', their namesake specialty pastry, is to die for! The rhubarb cheesecake with a chai latte just makes my day! Hot chocolates, too! Nomnomnom. It's a cosy little spot, too, if you want to chill with your food and a good book for a bit.
N. A.
Nice options for desserts. Good thing is that you can choose by the kilo, so you could get a bit of different cakes. I didn't like the ginger taste on the base of the cheesecakes though.
L. S.
The Crows Nest store isn't on google maps yet but it's as good as these reviews of the randwick store say. The kurtosh coil pastries are pretty amazing and the huge range of cakes convinced me to come back again to try some more. Prices are reasonable considering the high quality.
H. Y.
Always a favourite. Great chai and ice coffee. Amazing selection of cakes. Best of all, you pick the size of cake slice, and have as much or as little as you want!
N. G.
Everytime we have gone here we love it! Last night we went and were served by a staff member named Chin, she was so friendly and helpful. We love all the cakes, coffee and Kurtosh here. Especially love the caramelised hazelnut kurtosh.
J. F.
Great pastry, poor organisation. Really need to implement a clear ordering system. Do you order at the register or over the cakes or at the coffee machine? At present it's chaos. Also, make it clear they're is no table service either by signs on the door, on the tables or have a staff member communicate with you.
E. R.
Nice venue for after dinner or after the movies. They used to make sugar free desserts but they have stopped. Which is the reason for 4 not 5 stars.
S. J.
Nice atmosphere…good pastries
M. H.
Great cake, great coffee. Tray baked cakes sold by weight; have as big (or small) a piece as you want. Fast friendly service. Highly recommended.
D. C.
Great spot for dessert in randwick. A wide selection of cakes to choose from priced by weight. Their speciality are the chimney cakes which are delicious when fresh. It can be tricky to get a table during busy times.
A. M.
Snug cafe with an excellent selection of drinks and sweets. We had the caramelised hazelnut kurtosh and hot chocolate. The kurtosh was delicious, topped with crispy hazelnuts. Would highly recommend this place!
M. L.
Love this little cafe at the spot. Good old fashioned home made style cakes. Bonus its open late. So it's good for a coffee and cake after a movie.
R. d. R.
Sweet debaucheries in the form of pastries, kurtosh (a flaky, yummy tower of pisa), and slab cakes - where you specify how big (or small) of a piece of cake you want and then pay by the weight. Cool concept & the cafe itself is nice & quaint
M. L.
Delicious cake, amazing chai. Prices are great. Open until late.
You buy cakes by weight so you can try a lot of different bites.
J. M.
Great desserts, great service! So great to have a coffee shop closing at 10pm! Wonderful
W. U.
Great coffee shop at The Spot in Randwick. While their eponymous 'kurtosh' are nice, I like their cakes. They sell their cakes by weight so you can taste a few without being a pig.
B. B.
Great little place, however they have the same cakes everyday. Would be good to change things up every so often to offer different servings
N. Q.
One of my favourite coffee and cake places. You some how need to expand and make more room! Greta food / drink and lovely service,.
C. L. C.
Very respectful staff and food service
R. S.
Great servic and coffee fantastic cake. Well done a nice change from the usual coffee /cake csfe
H. B.
Great cake shop, get the nutella kurtosh it's the best. The chocolate biscuits are great too. I reckon their coffee is a bit average, get a chai or got chocolate instead.
T. S.
Very very nice dessert. Decent price. It's cost depends on the weight. So you can try small pieces of many cakes !
D.
This place offers a new concept of cake buying, instead of paying per slice or the whole cake. Kurtosh offers cake per weight. You can also mix and match different cake and will only be charged for its overall weight. However kurtosh is on the expensive side and ive never paid under 20 dollars every visit, whether itd be for 4 types of cakes or 6
R. M.
the food and drinks are delicious and the staff are kind ~ my favourite place to get a coffee and cheesecake :)
V. R.
Love this quaint little shop . its so busy and you know why - it serves the best pastries ever ! I always have to stop to get some whenever I am in the area.
R. K.
Good range of cakes, and you pay by weight (so pay for only how much you want). Bring the carrot cake back (and it'd be worth 5 stars).
L. F.
Kurtosh is a cute little bakery specialising in the Hungarian pastries treat kurtosh. When you order a kurtosh to share with your coffee buddy they will make it fresh for you.
Ben, who set the cafe up, has ensured that the coffee you're served is exactly how you like it. Have a chat with the barista when you order and then enjoy.
I will definitely be coming back.
J. M. A. H.
A bit pricey but is worth it. Amazing quality cakes.
A. W.
Tiramisu. 😍 Strawberry sponge cake. The tea cakes and more. All delicious and the hot chocolates come in cute cups with ballerina teddy bears! 🤗🤗
M. B.
Kurtosh Signature cake with a great coffee definitely completed my day ! Good outdoor seating.
M. H.
Best spot for Coffee and sweets.
S.
Cakes are the best part. Coffee is average and the staff act like snobs.
G.
What not to love about this place.
My family ecstatic about Kürtosh.
Specially a naughty treat for me after visiting diabetes Dr.. 😆
Naughty me...
My 10yr old still so excited for a babycino there.
Z. M.
My favorite came and coffee stop in the whole of the Eastern suburbs. Try mum's chocolate cake, the rum balls or a Nutella kurtosh for your chocolate fix.
W. Y.
Nice coffee and cakes. Worth a visit.
C. V.
Best iced mocha in the Easter Suburbs
K. K.
A lovely cafe with great atmosphere and a selection of desserts. The coffee is great and the staff are friendly. They also accept card payments.
L. G.
Best chai latte in the area. Interesting concept of charging for cakes and pastries by weight. Nonetheless food is filling.
M. Š.
Burgers are a bit better than Sydney average.
Gluten free options.
But they do close early.
L. L.
love the signature cake!
A. O. P.

I found the Kurtosh way too sweet. Lovely little shop with a nice atmosphere though. The seats are uncomfortable.
D. K.
What a wonderful little cafe/bakery. Discovered it by chance. Really simple and beautifully tasty cakes. Recommended.
J. A.
Service was a bit slow considering there was no one else being served, and the coffee they serve is very sweet somehow, but other than that everything was pretty good.
A. C.
Great place for a treat or two 😁 The flourless chocolate slice is AMAZING! 😍
L. L. (.
Very good café serving amazing fresh kürtosh, very tasty, and range of delicious desserts as well as amazing coffee!
