Love the selection of pastries you could find here. The Portuguese tart has got the right texture and flavor. The staff is helpful and friendly as well.
U. V.
It's a super famous bakery with more than 30 min wait time. Their famous Portuguese tarts are pretty delicious but the croissants are nothing extra ordinary. Overall a good bakery.
F.
Amazing Portuguese tarts! Located in a small shop in Clovelly. Freshly baked every day. If they aren’t open, the café a few doors up also sells them. On Sunday morning I purchased 10 tarts ($43) that had just come out of the oven. The custard in the middle was nice and wobbly. The tarts are delicious when they’re warm! They are a family favourite of ours.

Yes! Big YES. I've only recently discovered this little gem thanks to lockdown walks and OH MY - I'll be back! Bought a couple of pastries: the rum & raisin donut as well s the coconut almond pastry - both were incredible. They're now doing a special flavour every week and the queue outside is always super long so you better go early if you wanna have all the pastries available.
K. I.
Ok, hear me out. I know, you love this place; you've queued relentlessly and been wowed. You've told your friends and they all think you're Escoffier, because you know where the good stuff is. Who the f is kitchen bloody insider anyway? He didn't write Larousse, and he probably doesn't know his choux from his toque.
This place is all about its nata tart. I spent an entire afternoon outside Pastéis de Belém in Lisbon, eating one after another of these babies. They're magical.
These ones are ok custard tarts. Yes, they get the shell right on the button...flaky, crispy, perfect. The room temp custard is quite runny, where it should hold its form, like a room temp creme brulée. The custard itself is sweeter than ideal too. It's $4.57 (credit) for this morsel. I'd happily pay it, if it transported me to Lisbon. Sadly, it just took me onto the 350 to Bondi Junction.
J. J.
Don't let the long queue stop you from grabbing their delectable treats -- the ladies at the counter friendly and fast.
I'm in love with their savoury danish and cruffins. I try my best to not visit everyday, otherwise I might have to workout 4x a day...
T. L.
Best portuguese tarts ever !! The base was cruncy while the egg custard is creamy and very fragant. Enjoyed it to the last bite xx Their cinnamon donut was soft and fluffy as well.
J. Q.
Portuguese tart was good but perhaps a little overhyped. The inside resembled a ‘lava’ type consistency and was very sweet.
J. L.
Fresh Portuguese custard tarts (without cinnamon on top) straight out of the oven on a Friday morning. I have tried a few places in Sydney that make these, Tuga's one comes very close to the ones I've had in Portugal - just the perfect ratio of pastry to custard and the perfect amount of sweetness.
Will DEF be back for these.
u. n.
15/10 not overly sweet custard, creamy, super flaky crispy pastry! addictive! the ones with the more burnt caramelised tops are my favourite!
K. S.
I waited a bit with my review to visit a few times and taste almost the full range of products! Hands down the best Portuguese tarts that I've eaten outside of Portugal (and better than the famous ones in Belem). All other pastries are also delicious with the almond tart being my favourite! Watch out for the specials as the yum mojito donuts recently!
J.
insanely delicious. the nutella croissant is out of this world and everything i’ve tried is epic! worth waiting in the line for!
A. C.
Came here to try the almond croissant and Portuguese tart but left the place with pretty much everything they had on offer. Everything was generally quite good, but we definitely over indulged. Liked the cinnamon powder on the Portuguese tart.
d.
Travelled from north part of Sydney after reading an article about the Portuguese tarts. I was very lucky to get a batch straight from the oven. They looked so good and couldnt wait to try them. However warning that the custard is super oozy when hot so watch your fingers. Much better consumed after they have cooled. Pastry is so flaky and crispy and the custard is smooth and sweet not eggy - worth the trip!Staff were super friendly and helpful too!
M. H.
The best Portuguese tarts in Sydney!! The almond croissants are amazing too! And to top it all off, the customer service is always great
C.
Very good pastries for the pies. Nice flavours for the beef. A very unique flavour for the chicken and leek. Would be five star rating if my beef pies and chickens had more chunks of beefs in it.
Almond Croissant was good too. Chocolate croissant felt a bit too soft.
A. S.
We have had the pastel de nata multiple times and by far we feel these are the best we have had in Sydney! We have tried them in multiple areas around Sydney and nothing can beat these!
We have recently tried the gluten free orange cake with white chocolate ganache which we ordered for a birthday celebration, we had multiple people at this party comment that this was one of the best cakes they had ever had and we have to agree with them, the quality of this cake was exceptional, very flavoursome and not dry at all!
M. N.
The hype is real. Really really good pastries. We drove all the way from Northern suburbs for Tuga and it's so worth it. Will happily do it again and again until my waistline permits
- Portuguese egg tart: $4 each. Rich, decadence and right amount of sweetness.
- Almond croissant: $5.8. The best I've had this year. Not only it tastes sublime, it's also quite big in size compared to others
- Plain croissant: $4.5.
- Dulce de leche bun/pocket: %5.5. The pastry texture is similar to croissant but without the outer flakiness.
J. D.
Couldn't fault a thing. Tarts and almond croissant were perfection
A. L.
These are the best almond croissants in Sydney! And I don't say that lightly...They are absolutely everything a good croissant should be - bouncy yet flakey, sweet and nutty, and oh so moreish. The are absolutely worth the trip and any queue.
The pastel de natas are also delightful - the best I've had in Australia and as good as those sold around Lisbon.
I keep meaning to try other things but inevitably end up with these two delights.

Anyone who has been to Portugal knows they have some of the best pastries going around. So you have this in mind when you hear of a shop selling a Portuguese tarts and make it a mission to visit.
I’m not sure why I’ve never noticed Tuga before since it’s only a block from where I work and I drive up Clovelly Road regularly. But it’s quite a small shop with an inconspicuous frontage so it’s probably understandable why I missed it. I was drawn to the pastry shop after seeing an Instagram friend tagged here.
Tuga is a pastry store selling breads, sweets, pies and it is also the home of their signature item, the pastel de nata, or the Portuguese tart, developed in Lisboa Portugal in 1837.
The history behind this tart coming to Australia is as follows. Gus Ferreira became a pastry chef, leaving Portugal for Australia and opening a Portuguese cake shop in Curlewis Street, Bondi in 1994. Today, Gus’ son Diego has kept up the legacy as head baker, making and selling these out of this shop now in Bronte.
The store sells to the public through retail as well as wholesale, catering and events. They make cakes to order, whether it be an Orange cake, Passion fruit & yogurt cake, butter cake, Carrot & pineapple cake, Chocolate, coffee
& hazelnut cake.
We went especially for their Portuguese tarts. A beautiful flaky pastry with a sweet, egg custard centre and dusted with cinnamon.
We also had the “bread of God”, a coconut Portuguese brioche. This was absolutely incredible.
For more sweets, we also had the cinnamon donut as well as a donut with raspberry. This has a delicious filling, a good mix of sweet and tarte inside a fluffy dough dipped in cinnamon.
From the savoury options we loved their incredibly tasty caramelised onion and mushroom quiche. Whilst they had pies we didn’t get them this time but certainly are keen to try.
Kurt just wanted everything in the shop, but couldn’t possibly eat any more in one go. But the positive is, it means we will be back for more.
M. M.
OMG this place! Treat yourself and treat yourself greatly because it's soooo worth it.
Fantastic pastry and cakes done with creativity and precision.
T. C. T.
I'd heard that this place makes standout pasteis de nata and so I had to see for myself. I bought a few, for myself and my family. The pastry was flaky but crisp, and the filing was delightfully on point- just sweet enough, and the right texture. It took me right back to eating these tart in Lisbon in the plaza de comercio at casa de fabrica. Delicious!
S. M.
Delicious little shop with one of the best Almond croissants and the famous pastel de nata. No seating here, and no coffee just FYI
K. N.
Amazing range of pastries and Sydney’s best Portuguese tarts. Outstanding service from the friendly staff who took the time to go through everything on offer
D. L.
Super friendly staff and great products
T. R.
Everything here was delicious and definitely one of the bests of all! Croissants (chocolate and plain), mushroom quiche, Portuguese tarts! Will need to space out my visits so we don’t go crazy on the carbs. Worth it though :) Came for the Kouign Amann but will need to wait for when it’s back!
L. K.
The original Portuguese tarts! So amazing, delicious and authentic! The recipe was the first bright to Australia from Portugal, you literally cannot get more real unless you're in Belen!
S. L.
How did I not know about this place. The best portuguese tarts ever!!!
They are sooooooo good. I havent tried there other pastries yet, but I'm in love with the portuguese tarts. I have been to both Clovelly and Alexandria and they are both very friendly places.
O. G.
The best almond croissants I’ve ever tried!
Don’t like donuts though
B. C.
Exceptional cakes! The best Portuguese tart in Sydney hands down - our family has tried them all! Lovely staff - couldn't be happier with Tuga :)
S. R.
Not only are the pastries incredible, the customer service goes above and beyond. Such a friendly team.
G. H.
Sensational almond croissants and Portuguese tart. Was wondering whether there's a mini version of almond croissants so that I can save my appetite to try other pastries as well. But there's always a next time. Staff are also friendly, which is a plus.
R. C.
Easily the best pastries in Sydney. You cannot go wrong with a sausage roll, cheese and ham croissant etc etc etcccccc. Portuguese tart will put you in a coffin it’s so good.
I. W.
Excellent pastries - the leek quiche was actually the highlight :)
D. C.
Great little bakery. Worth the trek if you don't live close by. Of course everyone praises their Portuguese tarts, but you need to try their other pastries too. Tried their Bolo-rei Christmas cake for the first time and it was good!
M. -. C. M.
I wanted to try these famous pastel de nata. I was disappointed because the cream was very runny and I ate them cold. It should not be too runny, I ate them in Portugal and they were different
J. D.
As good as the rave reviews suggest. The pastel de nata are beyond anything I've had before. And the almond croissants are incredible.
B.
Delicious snacks - Portuguese tart, pies...
S. B.
Best Portuguese tarts in Sydney! The closest thing you can get to the real ones from Lisbon. plain and almond croissants are also awesome. Not too sweet!
D. J.
Yes, the custard tarts are amazing. Quiche and pies too. Definitely going back for more. Also, really nice people there. Thanks!

Ordered a 9" round chocolate cake from them for a function. Nothing was too much trouble for them, every request I made of them was met, without demure. Excellent.

Pastries are great and taste delicious, but the wait to be served due to service is notoriously long, may need a seat.

Quality selection of croissants and pastries in addition to the pastel de natas, all of which hold very well reheated at home.
