This place is amazing. The service and the food was extraordinary. The tea was not only delicious, but also really intensive in taste. Can't really recomend the matcha House enough.

Best dessert place in Adelaide for me :) Friendly service. Serving desserts that just make you wanna close your eyes and enjoy and appreciate the strong, delicious flavour slowly. Good place to hangout with friends and family.
A. R.
The shop is very Japanese vibe. I appreciate the staffs being friendly, polite and how respectful they are. The food is so good! The matcha latte is not so strong, which is very nice & it is frothy, same with the hot chocolate. Their matcha waffle is heaven! It is a must try. Meanwhile, their matcha lava cake is the bomb. You guys should try. I’m not even joking. Everything is freshly made. The waiting period is not that long, too. They also have detox tea, I bought the Liver Detox and Digestion. It’s good. Overall, this place is highly recommended. Try and visit! Keep it up Matcha House! Arigatou :)

Went to Matcha House to drink some tea, and we enjoyed ourselves, felt like a whole experience. The interior was clean and made me feel like I was right in Japan - loved the K-pop and J-pop gently playing in the background. The staff were polite, knowledgeable, and seemed to observe Japanese etiquette when doing things like serving the tea.
Their menu featured not only matcha, but also various teas based on their natural properties. I chose the 'allergy relief' tea which came in a pot, for one person, but was still plentiful. It was a nice thoughful touch to be provided with double-walled glasses to drink our tea with so that we didn't burn our hands!

My wife and I go to Matcha House weekly and have been doing so for years, since we met in fact.
Even in these unique times we are in, you guys have never waived from your amazing, respectful and wholesome service.
We were in just the other day for our regular - two traditional matcha bowls and some tasty dessert, service was second to none, everyone served us with a smile from the moment we walked in.
Yes it's true at times desserts can be a bit of a wait, but Matcha House says this on the signs and in my opinion it's to be expected - having beautifully, deep matcha flavoured desserts that are the best in South Australia, it takes time to prepare. Especially when the presentation is always perfect.
We have been to Matcha House hundreds of times and not a single bad experience, not one.
Thanks,
See you next week 🍵

The store was quite empty as we were there at 7.15, however, the store became busier soon after.
The desserts were amazing, and the service was good. The store has a traditional seating area and a regular seating area.
They did add new items to their menu- not that good so just stick to the old one.
P. S.
The experience was great! The staff is very friendly.
The “Vegan Parfait” ice-cream was a great one for me 👌 I wouldn’t recommend the cold tea and waffles though (quite pricy for what it is).
S. P.
The lava cakes were really good. The tea wasn't great but the taro milkshake was amazing. Good opening hours. Would come again
L.
The place doesn't take bookings so either you get lucky for a spare table on the spot or stand in line. Everyone has to order a drink or food, mandatory. Dessert was quite good, hojicha latte was my favorite. It was bitter with a hint of sweetness. Matcha sundae was good too! We asked for a birthday candle for our friend on her lava cake and when we asked for the bill, the single mini stick candle cost $1, unknowingly.
H. H.
A very authentic matcha dessert shop with traditional Japanese seats and a great dining atmosphere. The matcha lava cake is a bit sweet but still highly recommended.
L. V.
I have to say this has to be my fav Japanese Green Tea and desserts hang out. The service is awesome. The quality of desserts and green tea matcha 🍵 is divine. The settings and the atmosphere is so relaxing and enjoyable. Will come back again 🙌😘
L. D.
Best place for Matcha desserts! Lovely staff and a relaxing atmosphere. Definitely worth trying if you like green tea or japanese desserts.
O. W.
Nice experience we enjoyed our dessert and matcha tea.
The staff were very friendly and welcoming since it was our first time, we chose their recommendation and it was amazing 🙏❤️
H. L.
Craving a nice refreshing matcha drink or dessert.
Been to the O’connell location many years ago. I like to support small business and especially know how limited Adelaide is with these types of specialty cafes compared to Melbourne and Sydney. It’s a pity the reviews sound bad. But whats astounding is the owner has even taken the effort to clap back on customer reviews in such a passive aggressive way. Which to me, reflects their customer service attitude. Reviews are there for a reason and the audience tells all. Pro tip: try taking constructive criticism well and improve the business for the sake of it. Sad to say wont be visiting :(
L.
Great service & delicious tea and desserts. We had a great experience here while visiting on holidays. Thanks Matcha House. Can you please open a store in Brisbane ;)
T. M.
Durian lava cake is super tasty! Love it! My friends and I enjoyed here so much! Always going back! Do recommend, guys!
我.
We ordered 2 lava cakes and 2 tea. This had certainly made our night, especially after a not too good Japanese dinner. Good job, keep going with the good food and service.
T.
Great place for desserts if you’re a matcha lover. Was fairly empty on a thursday night and we got a seat immediately
L.
everything is good, except for the matcha yoghurt, it tastes so weird tbh. Love the parfait!! Ice latte is good too, sweet at the bottom and bitter on top. Customer service was good too, serve pretty quick and they smiled a lot. Good desserts and great ambiance
V.
I went with a group of friends and didn’t have a problem with service nor seating arrangement. We weren’t sure whether we had to order at counter or if it was table service but as soon as we stood up, waitress came to take our order. It was good that they didn’t rush us! Atmosphere was nice and felt like a casual place to chill. Great music, pretty good food with wonderful company. Don’t expect a romantic atmosphere (try Spats or St Louis if you’re looking for that). Matcha dessert at Matcha House are rich in flavour - worth the amount you pay. Good variety to choose from. We had ice cream parfait, tasting platter and matcha waffles. Amazing (matcha overload)! Matcha waffles tasted freshly made, crispy on outside & soft inside. Brownies were moist and flavour wasn’t too overpowering.
Would recommend to give this place a try & do not expect too much! :)
L. W. T.
Good service! ✨
Would definitely come back!!! 💕
L. K.
Amazing matcha teas and desserts prepared in the traditional manner and presented beautifully, with flowers and fruit. My favourites were the waffles and the cheesecake, but everything we had was delicious. A unique place for a date or to meet friends.
M. K.
Oh man. This dessert was hectic! Ice cream moshi, jelly stuff, and corn flakes! Amazing.
K. L.
Iced houjicha latte: too sweet
Eton mess: as a matcha dessert, I was a bit disappointed with the matcha flavour as the dessert lacked the oomf of matcha. I would’ve liked it if there was less cream, as the cream overwhelmed all the other flavours and coated my mouth uncomfortably.
Affordability: not worth the price
Service: it’s alright, just average
Probably won’t come again.
K.
Reliable go to spot after dinner in Chinatown. Great atmosphere, makes you feel like you are in Japan. Highly recommend the traditional matcha or whiskey if you are into fine spirits.
G. C.
Matcha frappe is really nice, a little tea type of bitterness, friend had the yogurt one, was nice but she thought it was too sweet.
Lava cake was worth the wait hot lava and cold ice cream perfect match!
Donot choose the tatami if u r wearing any skirts tho😂
J. L.
One of my favourite dessert places!! Great food, great service and great vibes too!!! Love everything on their menu, EVERYTHING!!!
J. X.
To be honest, I have been to Adelaide for nearly 2 years, I have never tried it before due to the low rating points. After tried today, I’m really satisfied with the food, environment and service. Actually I don’t know why people rated like one star.
B. T.
This dessert bar is awesome. They serve a good variety of Japanese tea, ranging from regular matcha to herbal other teas, whose names I can't remember, because there were so many (all of them seemed great, though). They also serve tea geared for different moods as well (anger relief, stress relief, etc). I had some matcha waffles and a pot of genmaicha, which was perfect for the cool and windy evening. The waffles were HEAVENLY, and the matcha ice cream served them made for a delightfully guilty treat, balanced perfectly by the hot tea. There are some very tempting other desserts on the menu, which I will definitely come back to try.
This place is spacious, but still feels cozy and inviting because most of the tables are small and set on a raised wooden platform with cushions for you to sit on. There are also regular tables and chairs spread around the platform if you prefer not having to take off your shoes. The staff here are very friendly, courteous and helpful, and will guide you through the menu with ease and grace :)
This dessert bar is ideal for a group outing, or a date night, and is almost always full whenever I walk past. It's really a gem in the Adelaide matcha scene, or just the desserts scene in general.
B. D.
Overall, customer service is not very good.
The desserts are fine,I personally found it too sweet, my friend loves it tho.
Recommend the daifuku mochi.
Pearls are not good, small and tough and it hasn’t been sunk in brown sugar long enough so it is tasteless.
S. Z.
Great dessert night with friends and reasonable price too. As a matcha lover I love this place. Impressive garnishing. I was surprised that their signature dessert Lava cake was accompanied by matcha flavoured icing sugar and taste great. The side ice cream was not too sweet. Matcha waffle has matcha flavoured syrup on top too. Great dining experience. How lucky we are to find such good matcha dessert in Adelaide
t. g.
The matcha house is perfect place to sit down and chat with your friends along with their lovely selection of traditional Japanese tea. The matcha waffles is a must try .The ambience is quiet comforting and beautiful. The staffs very helpful too .
L. L.
Great matcha desserts 🙂🙂
k. w.
The taste of food is extremely good. And the new waiters are definitely excellent and passional.(A point is taken for the old waiters who are so rude and unprofessional.)(this restaurant definitely has the best matcha foods in Adelaide.)
H. L.
We love matcha. This place does pretty good matcha related things. We love this place. Simple as that!
J. S.
The best place offer matcha, really love how chia pudding put together. really friendly staff, especially kiki who was our server was really attentive. Would definitely come back again.
b.
Loved the matcha coffee and desert here, I've never been to a cafe / resturant, based mainly around matcha and it didn't dissapoint. It's open til the late hours of the day too which is so convenient. The service was faultless too. 5*
Q.
Never had enough of their matcha waffle! It’s a good place to catch up with friends and they open till late during the weekend. Another place with good desserts to hang out with friends till late during weekend. They have good variety of tea and even a tea to improve sleeping.
J. S.
A nice cozy place besides Eggless n chocoTree. Good blend of green tea. Walk to the counter(don't take off shoes yet), choose traditional (shoes off) or normal seat
M. W.
The platter was too sweet overall, but the matcha latte was very good😍
J. C.
Good selection of matcha desserts. Clean environment, friendly staff, however music choices could be improved.
W. K.
Great flavour matcha desserts. Solid variety of options.
S. J.
I love this dessert place! Staff are always friendly and helpful and the food is always delicious!
K. T.
Absolutely amazing matcha and excellent service! Highly recommend the lava cake 😋
J. J.
Friendly service, pleasantly surprised with the flavors and value.
V. V. R.
Desserts are not too sweet👌, matcha latte is a must try. Chill place to hang out with friends. However, the one who took our order who was also at the cashier is lacking friendliness. But the rest of the crew were excellent!
A. W.
Nice place for dessert. Just sweet enough and fun place to gather
Y. Y.
Their matcha lava cake and iced matcha frappe is always my go to when I am havng a sweet tooth craving in chinatown.
R. J.
My favourite dessert cafe! Delicious desserts and drinks and lovely atmosphere 🍵
B. M.
Aesthetically, the Matcha House is a cute spot with places to sit on the ground and enjoy a somewhat authentic japanese experience. The food is also quite tasty! Not too sweet!
However, the walk-in wait times can be frustratingly long and the menu seems a little costly for certain items. I understand that it's authentic matcha but $11 for a small bowl of matcha tea seems a bit steep in a world where regular pots of tea at cafes cost less than $5.
Customer service for the most part was fine, although we were abruptly interrupted by one of the workers and notified that our 90 minute seating time was over.
M. T.
Absolutely Amazing Experience! The Matcha Lava Cake with Green Tea Ice Cream is to die for!
L. Z.
New limit time dessert platter! Very nice with hot tea!
S. T.
Real shame about the poor reviews. It seems people have had dodgy service but that was definitely not the case for my visit. Guy was very helpful and recommended us drinks when he saw us struggling to choose. The food though, absolutely delicious. They definitely have the matcha flavour I was looking for. I can't vouch for the service but the food and drink will most definitely not disappoint
S.
First time dinning and planning to visit again soon! Polite service and very attentive to the table. Was very notable that the dishes did not rely on sugar to bring a burst of flavour and therefore did not leave that sickly sweet taste in the mouth. Highly recommend the traditional matcha green tea.
S. S.
Japanese-style interior where you sit on the floor on a flat cushion, shoes off, and a low table to eat from. Desserts are nice, not too sweet, and the matcha flavoured food is not overpowering so is good for anyone to try!
D. N.
Matcha lava cake is the best out there and is my goto place for any Matcha desserts!
S. M. H.
I love this place! Their tea and atmosphere are fantastic and the girl serving us was so sweet, will definitely be coming back again soon 😄
r. D.
Good
A.
Nice matcha dessert, love the houjicha frappe taste a bit bitter 👍
M. S.
If you like Matcha, definitely come visit this adorable little tea house. Full of charm, wonderful service and they even laugh at your awkward jokes. Probably don't ask for a suggestion though, wife got the frappe and I ended up drinking it. And, this is the important part, if you think Matcha tastes a little like lawn clippings, then you won't enjoy this place. But, if you like it, you'll love this place!
星.
The bubble tea might a little bit bitter but still taste good overall.
Love the Matcha ice-cream.
A. X.
Tasty is good. I like it. The Japanese style seat is not comfortable.
N.
Matcha House is amazing, the staff, atmosphere, and especially the deserts and teas! I come here often, I recommend bringing friends along whenever you're looking for a delicious desert in a relaxing and traditional-like setting.
J. L.
Matcha House is a fantastic dessert store with delicious food. I was surprised at the range of teas and the assortments of desserts (from waffles to the tasting platters to ice-cream). I enjoyed the experience of the restaurant but considered their high-end prices. 4 stars from me.
K. L.
Been a long time matcha addict myself, the place has really redefined what the true essence of what japanese matcha should be really all about. The quality of the their matcha powders/ genmaicha teas are second to none. Paired with amazing matcha lava cakes and waffles its a matcha made in heaven (sorry about the puns).
I do believe their pricing is quite reasonable considering the quality and lengths they go to importing it straight from japan. The decor is modern with splashes of the old japanese edo era throughout. And they have some of the best japanese whisky available to try also! who could ask for more. Will be coming back in again shortly.
m. k.
the best lava cakes. always a pleasant experience
C. L.
This place used to open in North Adelaide and still taste amazing! Love the concept and recommend this place for desserts
V. F.
What a lovely place to conclude a perfect dinner night. Wether you come with friends, family or even on a date, you will like this unique place and will feel like you have step up in Japan. I like to sit on the floor with the japanese table and order some delicious treats. So far my favourites are definitely the matcha lava cake and the matcha affogato but frankly everything is nice and tasty, a friend of mine tried the matcha waffles, another one tried their herbal tea and everyone was really happy. Highly recommended for a unique after dinner moment when you feel like enjoying an original dessert and matcha is said to offer lots of benefits :)
L. T.
Love this place! Matcha is fantastic and the great selection of whisky and sake is AMAZING!!!
I was there this Saturday with my friends having a great time... A family came in with their little son whom was a constant annoyance by jumping up and down next to us. We asked the staff nicely to ask the family to keep an eye on their child as 1..that was very unsafe to do with so many people around, and 2. the parents of this child just didnt seem to care or respect anyone else there!!! I noticed that this group of 3 all just made a negative review against the staff which is completely unreasonable as actually it wasnt just my table whom complained about them. I heard the staff with our request say nicely to the parents "sorry, but for other customers satisfactions we need you to keep an eye on your child as he can not keep jumping up and down as this is disturbing others".. despite the parents agreeing, they totally disregarded what the staff had informed them and just continued to let their child run a muck!..
I understand that sometimes it is hard to control a child, but as parents then if your child is troublesome then it is probably best to keep them at home.
M.
Desserts and teas here taste great, however the price is high for a low grade matcha used. If the matcha is a brownish colour then it is a lower grade. The brighter the green the better the quality. If you look through their photos you will see it is all greenish brown. Its about $5 for 500g of powder. As opposed to $25 for 250g top grade.
B. F.
We've been to Matcha house in both North Adelaide & Grote street. The service always friendly and helpful. They never have a problem in changing the vanilla bean ice cream that accompanied the lava cake to whipped cream for my husband and greentea ice cream for mine
A. Z.
The service sub-par, I do agree the lady there was rude, but we did have a man who was quite accommodating, we didn't dine in but we ordered take away, the desserts certainly tasted like matcha but the price was a bit deer, overall our desserts didn't take long at all even though it was quite busy. I enjoyed my sundae very much.
C. i. A.
Really nice matcha here! Love matcha lava cake the most and matcha latte is really good as well both in hot and the iced one. Enjoy the ambiance there and their staff are cute and considerate, always smiling and very polite. Highly recommend for having matcha here and having a joyful night!
M. F.
The matcha tea was very good and I liked the desert as well.
I liked the ‘tables’ and ‘chairs’ on the floor, very traditional.
What is negative is that It is expensive and each person has to buy a dessert, otherwise you have to leave.
D. E.
Best desserts. Bubble tea Pana Cotta is heavenly
T. E.
Beautiful place, friendly staff, and the menu is very broad for being only matcha. The prices are high, but match the quality. Is probably not for families or large groups. Strongly recommend for people who want to try traditional matcha or are very familiar with it and want to stretch matcha to it's delicious limits.
T. G.
Really enjoyed my first time at Matcha House! Lovely traditional Japanese atmosphere. Classic matcha tea was beautiful and the matcha lava cake was AMAZING! Will definitely be back here for tea and dessert with friends :D
F.
A special place provided “tatami” style seat. And the menu is all around Matcha 🍵
K. H.
Extremely hospitable, comfortable, and delicious. Lava cake was A+ for me but can't go wrong with any pick here. Favorite stop in Adelaide.
A. P. S.
Finally, got the time to visit to this place, which was on the list for a while. Matcha house is a place to be. Everything is so perfect, from food to ambience to service. Loved the idea of traditional seating; gives a different vibe.
N. S.
The best place to experience Japanese culture in ADL. I highly recommend people who love japan to visit this place to taste the authentic matcha dessert and teas. Friendly and professional customer service. Will definitely be back again to try other desserts. Arigatou Gozaimasu <3

C. Y.
Such a wonderful place to go with families and friends. We enjoy our stay every time. The foods are always taste delicious and the staffs are nice too. 😀😀😀
M. P.
Nice ambience, tea was lovely. Although the tatami style was nice, it’s not my preference for seating.
M. T.
Super cute matcha tea and dessert place! Love the seating on the floor and the plants and wooden decor. Their dessert platter was great to share between 2!
H. H.

(Translated) The waffles are really good and fragrant, and the matcha taste is good. The price is too high. After three people eat, they want to order two and share. The result is that three people have to order enough three. It is very different about this. I like it, it looks good, and the taste is medium to top. If you like matcha, come on.
(Original)
华夫饼真的很棒香香的,抹茶味道也行,价位偏高,三个人吃完饭去的想着点两个share一下结果三人必须点够三个才行,关于这点很不喜欢,样子很好看,味道中上。喜欢吃抹茶的来吧。

(Translated) Wagon cheese cake: The cake was so damp that it was difficult to cut it with a knife. The texture is better than ordinary cheesecake.
Wagon waffles: Waffles with an unusual green tea ice cream. Feels expensive compared to the contents.
The service was not that bad, but it was not that great either.
(Original)

(Translated) Are you missing a Japanese dessert?
Located in Adelaide CBD, this is a shop specializing in tea desserts, including one stylish matcha. One of the places I have visited many times during my stay. The atmosphere inside the store is calm, and it is a space that can be enjoyed alone or with many people. Seats are available in traditional Japanese style or Western style tables. As for desserts, tea is used abundantly, and it is delicious even for those who are not good at gluten-free and vegetarian options or sweets. There are limited-time desserts, so don't miss the chance. The dessert taste and freshness is always good, and the appearance is as good as Japanese desserts, so please try it.
It's just like eating art, and it definitely looks good on Instagram. Besides dessert, you can enjoy Japanese tea and sake. There are many types, so if you get lost, it is recommended that you ask the owners and staff for advice. They will tell you about the tastes and benefits of tea that suits you. Everyone who works at Matcha House is really kind and always welcome. Last but not least, I think it's a difficult time in Corona. If you're feeling down, why not heal yourself with Matcha House's dessert. I have returned to Japan, but when I drop in Adelaide, I would love to go there again.

Anyone craving for a Japanese Dessert?
Located in Adelaide CBD, a store specializing in tea desserts, offering various Japanese teas (Matcha) related products to foster health benefits. One of my favorite places that I’ve visited many times whilst my stay at Adelaide.
The ambience of the store is relatively calm, where it can be enjoyed by alone or with a med~ big party. Seats are available with traditional Japanese style or normal tables. As for the desserts, since most are made using teas, it is also loved by people who are not good at sweet. Meanwhile, there are limited-time desserts, so please do not miss the chance. Not to mention, the taste and freshness are always served in a great state, and the appearance of the products is as beautiful as the desserts found in Japan. Please pop in a have a try! It's just like eating art, and it definitely looks good on Instagram. Aside from the foods, they also offer a great range of fresh teas and unique Sake from Japan to go with. There are many kinds, so if you get lost, it is recommended that you ask the owner or employees for advice.
