Comments of Shingle Inn City Hall

The quality and the charm is no longer here. They have gone casual. The waitress do not have their small caps and white aprons. Paper napkins have taken over the linen ones etc. it has lost its charm just another cafe now. We won’t return in the past we dined here when we came to the city. Loved the old atmosphere and charm

A quiet & old-style restaurant located inside City Hall. Food is yummy, beyond my expectations. Tourists can also attend Clock Tower & City Hall tour after meals. Tours are free of charge, but booking is essential.

Cute cafe with nostalgic charm. We only had scones with champagne and coffee and it tastes lovely. The bright lights in the 2seats cabinets were a bit annoying and that it wasn’t really clear if we can pay at the table or on the way out. The sparking in the scones combo was particular nice and will Pass by for another round for sure.

Loved the Devonshire Tea and pumpkin soup. Large menu with options for boths grown ups and kids. The avocado and chicken crepe stack lacked a bit of flavor and was quite fatty. Nice atmosphere and friendly staff. Definitely worth visiting if you want a different kind of experience as the place being the oldest cafe in Brisbane with all the interior and details from the 1930's.

Cute little place. No visit or life in Brisbane should be attempted without a visit to The Shingle Inn, the iconic 1936 walnut panelled cafe bakery beloved by generations of Brisbane dwellers. For not only is it an exquisite place to dine and take tea but its story adds an interesting layer to the experience.

Had a nice cup of coffee at the Shingle Inn, inside City Hall today. It's the interior from the original in Edward Street. The ambience is really cute and cosy and the meals on the menu seem to be quite reasonably priced for the city. I'd come back to try something on the lunch menu.

The Brisbane City Hall and the Shingle Inn are just a beautiful piece of architecture. The Inn serves great coffee and very pleasant staff.

Haven't eaten here, but for anyone with fond memories of the original Inn on Edward Street, it will look very familiar, with all the original furniture. Quite lovely!

It is a convenient and quiet place to.meet my old work mates. Able to hear all conversations, unlike most cafe's. Service was a bit lacking today. Food was fine.

Delicious and satisfying high tea with friendly servers and a superb classical music playlist 🎶
Was a tad disappointed they were out of the French Earl Grey and Oolong teas. But the Chai and Earl Grey were fragrant and delightful. ☕🍰

Great Mediterranean sandwich. Nice coffee. Staff were nice. A little pricey for size of servings.

A charming, classic cafe in the style of a British tea house. Excellent coffee and baked goods!
A good place to relax away from the busyness of the city.

We love the food it was delicious! For sure coming back. The pasta i and fried rice was a success on our table, couldn't have enough. Loved the chicken dumplings and steak skewers. Everything was delicious But mashed potatoes of powder is not appropriate. Often some options from menu are not available. Unfortunately, no soups. Also I bought not fresh turkish lukum in their store.Their party platter can serve 6 to 8 people's. Very good variety of stuff in it plus awesome price

Loved the way this historic cafe has been rebuilt within the walls of the iconic City Hall. You feel like you are stepping back in time to when afternoon tea was a regular tradition which everyone did. We sat on large beautiful comfy armchairs and savoured our coffee and chai. Definitely recommended if you don't mind paying a bit more for ambience.

I used to vist the old Shingle Inn with my Nanna and i finally got around to seeing it redone in city hall for high tea. It was lovely and had a great variety. They were very accommodating for us as one lady is pregnant and they made her a special high tea.

The original and the best. This is the original Shingle Inn that was built (by David Webster & Sons Pty Ltd) in 1936 in Edward Street, as part of the Penny's chain store plans.
David Webster was an entrepreneur baker who in 1891 placed an advertisement in the local paper boasting that he gave his staff "a week's holiday every year". In 1892 Webster introduced Brisbanites to "Montgomery's Patent Digestive Malt Bread", which he acquired the rights for from a Sydney establishment. Clearly Webster was a visionary; such a product would be right on trend in 2017.
When Queens Plaza was being developed (2002 to 2005) the original mock Tudor style Beale veneer wall panels and Pullman layout seating were meticulously dismantled, numbered and put into storage for over a decade. In 2013 it found a new home at Brisbane City Hall.
This historical cafe is a Brisbane institution that has been preserved for generations to come. The food is pleasant, ranging from reasonably priced to expensive. Historically the atmosphere is unparalleled in Brisbane. Definitely worth a look for history loving locals and travellers alike.

I've always loved it & the one at City Hall has the original fixtures from the original Shingle Inn that was in Edward Street. That adds the extra charm of yesteryear & always takes me back.

Lovely original surrounds. Sandwich good but chips very expensive for the size of the serve.

I am veey partial to Shingle Inn, probably partly for sentimental reasons, it is a sweet spot for a rendezvous or to while away time on one's own when one 'just wants a cuppa'.
