Comments of Gang Gang Cafe and bar
L. L.
Awesome little gem inside Downer Village.
Nothing fancy , but the atmosphere is quite and relax. The coffee was good as well!
Definitely a good spot for catch up or lazy morning brekkie
J. D.
Gang gang provided a slightly disappointing brunch service. The food itself did not hit the mark with most of us finding our dishes either lacking in flavour, an odd combination of ingredients, and/or dried out. The vanilla milkshake tasted like frothed plain whole milk. It was a busy Saturday morning but the wait time for food was noticeably long.
On the positive side, the cafe itself is nice with rustic decorations and spacious outdoor and indoor dining options. The menu is quite small but there have some blackboard specials.
C. D.
Great little suburban cafe! The food and coffee was delicious. Can recommend the eggs benedict with added Halloumi and mushrooms, and the carrot cake. Great vibe to this cafe with live music and an all round local community spirit feel.
J. L.
Love the aesthetic and vibe of this Cafe, the staff are always very welcoming and friendly, and with all the doggos wandering around and socialising (where appropriate) it's great if you are a dog lover like myself.
The coffee is consistent and reliable with a very nice roast. The food is well prepared and always good.
They are also very dog friendly! Water is available with an undercover area for those lovely sunny days.
J. M.
Met a friend here for some socially distant coffee. A great location with lots of open space places to watch the dogs in the local park.
Most importantly the coffee was lovely. If I find myself on the Northside I'll try to get back and grab another.
K. K.
Would have my morning coffee here regulary if they would open a touch earlier and don't be so ridiculously slow with getting up a coffee. Extra star for gigs on Friday and Saturday evenings.
P. L.
Nice place with a cosy decor to meet over coffees. Friendly staff, good coffee. One of the rare places open on Sunday until 5pm.
Free parking available around.
P. C.
Vibrant Cafe in a fantastic inner North location. The staff are friendly and provide fantastic service. The Coffee is well made using local beans, and the food is both tasty and reasonably priced. I come here regularly despite living in Tuggeranong and working in Belconnen. I strongly recommend this Cafe!
B. C.
Nice and friendly neighbourhood cafe with a pleasant setting with indoor and outdoor seating. The limited menu is delivered well with excellent ham provided with the well made eggs Benedict. The coffee is nice, the service friendly and competent and lunch is available from noon until 5 pm. Liquor is also available. The setting is nice with an open grass area with other shops close by.
L. L.
I ordered a flat white and cold brew. Cold-brew was terrific, and the flat white was good too. I wanted to drink all my coffee, but a tiny fly bug(?) entered my coffee when I look outside. So be aware of flies... Apart from that everything was lovely.
A. F.
This place is a hidden gem and a locale's delight.
A terrific find of a Cafe situated in beautiful Downer in a wonderfully refurbished and regenerated precinct. The food is fresh, menu sophisticated and the staff are both friendly and helpful. Value for money plus exceptionally nice coffee!
A. D.
Dog friendly Cafe, the food was ok. My vanilla milkshake was very disappointing, it didn't have much vanilla flavour and was almost like drinking plain milk.
D. H.
Great quiet and spacious setting indoor and out with friendly staff and nice variety of food and drink. Music gig as well.
M. K.
The jerk chicken burger was delicious! Would go back just for this. Great flavours! Friendly staff.
G. R.
A pleasant and relaxing lunch spot with easy parking and fresh tasty food. Staff are friendly and helpful. Eat inside or out. Excellent game and puzzle table.
C. B.
Recommended by a friend ... And now I pass on that recommendation. Lovely coffee, wholesome food, friendly and relaxed staff. Dog friendly, with two large grassed fields to exhaust your pup. Will come again.
J. A.
Cool little place with a nice selection of healthy cafe style meals. Reasonably priced and quick service.
M. C.
Fantastic spot, always friendly service and very quick even when busy. Love this place
N. G.
This cafe has a great atmosphere. I got the Ganggang veggie burger which was delicious and reasonably priced. I would definitely recommend this place to those who are in the area.
A. N.
Nice and relaxed atmosphere. The coffee was divine. But. The food needs a little work. My Bacon and Egg roll was served a little cool, yet my egg suffered from a pan that too hot. That said it was still tasty. However, my mate's Eggs Benedict was served with lumpy hollandaise sauce.
It only received only three bacon and eggs rolls on this visit.
E. O.
Great coffee and brekky, nice relaxed location.
L. M.
Great coffee, friendly service, dog friendly (outside seating).
D. G.
Great brunch option, love the atmosphere. Appreciated the vegetarian options, and the simple yet delicious menu! Love the gig nights too, it’s such a gift to Canberra to have another supportive venue for live music. Thanks team!
S. T.
This place is a little gem. The food is great. A nice small selection of food for breakfast and lunch. But they are so amazing the small selection is great. The coffee is amazing and they have a good variety of different milks. They even have some great books to read if you are there by yourself.
p. e.
Staff were lovely and engaged. Food good. Nice atmosphere.
A. C.
What a great little spot! Beautiful welcoming vibes, delicious selection of food a drink, coffee is great, and there is enough space so that it is kid and dog friendly (close to fields and park) while also having space for those who want to quietly sit. I'm in Canberra for work, but will definitely frequent this spot whenever I'm down here from now on!
A. Z.
Lunch for two was very enjoyable. I had a berry smoothie and the pulled chicken burger. My wife had the halumi salad.
We dined outside under the shade and enjoyed the vibrant setting. We were just a bit too early to hear the acoustic musicinas that were setting up as we left.
The food was delivered fast and it we agreed it was delicious. Portion sizes were good and prices are in line with what is expected.
5 stars!
L. H.
Gang gang is an amazing place for coffee and food. I had the bacon & egg roll and would highly recommend. Lauren Fleming served me on this occasion, she was very helpful and friendly. 5 stars for this one, would go back to say hi to lauren.
G. L.
Amazing Cafe and vibe, definitely recommend the egg and bacon roll.
J. H.
My daughter brought me here for lunch and it was very nice. There is not a huge selection on the menu, but there are blackboard specials, and for someone like me who is flustered by long-winded menus it was perfect! I had the pumpkin, spinach and goats cheese toastie with walnut pesto. I highly recommend it. Delicious!! Just a little slow in coming was the only fault I could find.
M. M.
This visit was very ordinary with service, especially when placing an order..... it was a real burden for the staff member to take the order..... we asked if we could have salmon instead of ham with the eggs benedict, and for single shot coffees. They had to ask the kitchen about the salmon.
Not sure if the staff member taking the order realises that customers pay her wage by giving the cafe business. Maybe all the new units neighbouring the cafe area has increased compliancy.
Have preferred going here because Watson is too busy but if this service continues I won't return.
L. S.
Pleasant garden setting, quiet but with close parking. Good cafe food. Friday evening live music. Free Wi-fi
A. C.
Very nice food, coffee and service. Will go again.
J. C.
Dropped off the missus to a work mornos. She insisted the exotic toasties were not actually toasties then proceeded share a selection with her work. Apparently delicious......all I tasted was betrayal. The croissant and coffee were good though.
P. S.
The hidden gem (not any more, because everyone know about it) of the inner north. Great place! Dog friendly, family friendly. New menu is tasty. Open Friday and Saturday nights for adult drinks and food. Great vibe. Friendly customers and staff.
O. Y. C.
Great coffee and nice ambiance. I had a fresh n interesting haloumi salad with pickled grapes. The baked sweet stuff looked fab, definitely worth
inestigation further.
V. G.
Great venue, that has grown into a special corner for Canberrans. It's ideal for live music, a bit of nature watching, a lovely coffee or wine.
J. Y.
I have always loved this cafe but the new menu is fantastic. I’m happy to see Vegan options. We had pancakes with pear and Earl Grey cream (and coffee) and they were great. Thanks Gang Gang you guys are awesome.
S. V.
Great coffee, friendly staff and a lovely setting.
Q. P.
Food was OK but it’s not a pleasant place to loiter over a meal. No effort made to manage the bright acoustics so it’s incredibly loud. Can’t hear the person next to you unless they are shouting. Also the long and slow queuing system meant little opportunity to order a second coffee. Everyone seemed pretty crammed together with little room to move despite COVID-19. Presumably they were within the patron limits but perhaps people in the queue were on top of that limit?
P. K.
Great joint supporting local live music. Great atmosphere and service.
S. W.
An absolutely beautiful Cafe with lovely staff ❤ great coffee and great atmosphere
I. M.
An excellent Cafe nestled in Canberra. Great service and great quality food. Really nice atmosphere and community vibe. And also great for families with plenty of space for kids and safely away from main roads and an adjacent oval. Five stars
N. M.
Gang gang is one of my favourite haunts in Canberra. It has a cool vibe. It's a community-orientated cafe and sometimes they have live music. Highly recommended.
V. L.
The food was excellent. Coffee and hot chocolate were outstanding. Staff were friendly and kind. Will make it our go-to cafe in Canberra without question!
S. L.
My local cafe with the nicest staff, great coffee and yummy food. They are also dog friendly so you can take your puppy out with you instead of leaving it at home🥰.
R. F.
Relaxed and friendly. Good range of vegetarian meals and others too. And now you can get hot chips with your coffee and toasted sandwich.
T. M.
Just had brunch at this great little place. Food was superb and staff extremely friendly and helpful. I don't eat bread so they did my eggs Benedict with No bread and mushrooms instead. Great coffee. We will definitely be back to this happy little gem.
V. P.
This is becoming one of my new favourite cafes in downer. Nice food, lovely customer service and great location.
R. N.
New owners, new menu, much better coffee!
Pancakes were amazing, baked eggs are next on my list. Service is friendly and fast 😊
Dog friendly
R. M.
This place has an easy going attractive atmosphere with delicious food featuring a variety of dishes all day and into the evening.
Great coffee (from the Lonsdale St Roasters I believe)
Plenty of seating indoors and out:
The views of the surrounding parkland and trees are a real pleasure.
With interesting artwork, brickwork, picture view windows and a library to browse from (also dog friendly) it's a nice place to relax.
Even some comfy couches.
Features live music & poetry slams on weekends.
+ Licensed Venue +
Will definitely return.
D. S.
Went there with family and friends for a hangout. There's a lovely oval and playground walking distance from the cafe. Friendly dogs and a street library. Would love to go back, just a shame it's a little open and dangerous for very young children, without much to stop them from running into the road. That's my personal preference, it pays to be aware beforehand.
E. R.
good vegan options. lots of dogs :)
C. H.
I would call this a hidden treasure, but it is probably really well known to the Downer locals. Great space with polished concrete floors inside and plenty of protected seating outside.
I had the Berry & Banana Pancakes for a sneaky brunch. Light & fluffy does not do justice to this melt in the mouth taste extravaganza!!
Exceptional and very highly recommended.
d. q. t.
Great place to have a cup of coffee with peaceful environment.
J. J.
I love their coffee and homemade chai. It's the best eggs Benedict I've yet to have. Friendly staff and a good location. Also good prices.
S. N.
A really lovely looking venue, but the food really needs improvement. Have eaten there twice and it's been quite average to poor both times. Went with family yesterday, and the bacon & egg rolls were stale, cold, and bland. Coffee was cold, tea was wrong and scrambled eggs were doused in pepper. Such as shame, because it's a nice place.
T.
Visited the cafe for a catch up with a colleague and was thoroughly impressed. This is a beautiful little cafe that is the heart of the community. The staff are super lovely and the service is amazing. I really love the atmosphere and the community focused service they provide. If your ever in Downer Ganggang is a must visit.
C. W.
Although located in a set of shops that felt very empty, this cafe was quite full. It has tables with concrete tops (with interesting leaf patterns molded into them) and an eclectic range of chairs. The cafe isn't too crowded, and even with no soft furnishings it wasn't too loud.
Good coffee and the food was nice.
j. b.
Vegetarian friendly. There were several breakfast choices and I chose the Samosa Toastie with coconut yoghurt. Although the place was busy, the food arrived in quick time. There was enough curry flavour and plenty of filling. Even enjoyed the coffee
L. P.
A wonderful little spot for a coffee or a meal. Super laidback with ample indoor seating and an outdoor eating area as well. Didn't order any food but it looked delicious and the coffee was good. An enjoyable way to spend the morning.
M. T. (.
Food was pretty good, coffee was ok, very popular spot, lots of people comi g and going. Service could be better, we had trouble finding menus.
P. K.
Great food. You can bring your dog and your vegetarian here happily.
J.
Adore this place! Staff are so friendly and the atmosphere is great. The outdoor seating is so pet friendly and the food is great.
A. M.
I really like this place. It's your local family room. Great location next to parks, very family friendly and not obnoxious.
Every time I order an iced coffee it comes out differently - and I kind of don't mind the quirks that come with small business.
I hope it stays around as Downer grows - its great for our suburb.
W. C.
My partner and I have gone here many times at many times of day and it's always been so lovely and relaxing. Love the spacious, quiet setting and live music nights with outdoor seating. It's got a really authentic, chill vibe that's difficult to find in Canberra, I think.
S. A.
Best bacon and egg roll I’ve had in years or ever. Recommend trying these guys out for their seasonal specials. Everything we had here was tasty. Slightly less oily than other places of similar quality that I’ve been to. It’s also great to see the old Downer shops getting some fresh life breathed into them.
A. F.
We went for a brunch. Various tables to choose from. Toys and books to enjoy the time there for the whole family. Lots of tables outside as well. They modified my dish to my liking, which was nice. Quite a few vegetarian choices. Good for my partner who is vegetarian.
T. L.
This is one of the places in Canberra I like to sit and work for a day with my laptop. The food is nice, the staff are lovely. The atmosphere is unpretentious and comfortable. It has a real local community feel about it.
L. S.
Lovely little cafe. Coffee and food was really nice. Very friendly service. Great outdoor area to sit as well, with a little play area for kids. Does have some.gluten free options
C. C.
I had brunch on a Saturday morning and really liked the place. It has a very nice vibe, with good music and tasty food. It's one of those places you don't expect to find within Canberra suburbs.
D. V.
A very nice and peaceful spot for an excellent coffee. Haven't tried the menu yet but we'll be back soon to do that.
M. S.
A short stroll through the Downer oval brings you to Gang Gang cafe. The old Downer building has been refurbished and is a welcome change from the really modern. Local artists hang their wares for sale. Coffee, bacon and egg roll - a nice breakfast under the umbrella setting
D. M.
Yes, it's got excellent coffee, and it's increasing the choices of meals and snacks. But it's got more than that. The owners and those who work there are just so warm and welcoming, the cafe is in a great space in the renovated Downer shops, there's an excellent outdoor area, there are no parking problems ... a great place to chill out.
L. C.
Great coffee and chill staff
M. B.
Lovely staff, excellent ambience. Surprisingly warm on a winter day, which means a perfect place to study for a while
D. A.
It was OK, a pleasant atmosphere. Good food but limited vegetarian options on the menu.
B. P.
The Gang Gang has always had a relaxed and welcoming atmosphere, happily their food has improved to match. Yesterday I enjoyed a delicious lunch, well cooked salmon and a garden salad with lime dressing. They have live music too.
B. S.
We had very delicious food here today.
Staff very friendly and helpful.
We ordered pulled pork and salad, butter chicken & steak sandwich.
Great location, lots if parking, dog friendly.
B. M.
Great Coffee and Amazing Atmosphere, Go. Just Go.
G. F.
Great coffee, nice place. The bacon and egg rolls need some work.
A bun that explodes all over the table, egg cooked in a way too hot pan and better bacon guys!
Good luck, Downer needs you.
L. H.
Nice coffee, food was average. Not bad just nothing special. Had the biercher museli with coconut labneh ($15). Could not see any coconut yogurt or labneh. Tasted purely of apple juice and oats with toasted coconut and some berries. Too sweet for my liking with honey as well, as overkill and no yogurt to balance out. Apart from toast the only plant based option/vegan without honey. Friends had the eggs benny which was ok, came on normal bread.
M.
Great atmosphere, food looks amazing and the staff are great. Great cafe, but not a speciality coffee destination if you are into Espresso.
R. M.
I had an excellent coffee and a great breakfast. Super relax atmosphere and the staff were really nice and attentive. Great work guys, keep it up!
L. C.
Good please for morning cafe during weekends
A. S.
Niche alternative café. Haloumi salad, coffee and pinot noir were all great, shame the menu is smaller than it used to be though.
R.
We went on a Sunday morning. Nice setting. Long queue that barista worked through efficiently. Coffee was tasty 👍.
D. C.
Great outdoor seating. Jazz on friday nights. Good coffee
S.
Cheap and delicious place for brunch. They make amazing chai too. Love the outdoor are where you get to pat lots of dogs!
S.
Fantastic eating spot. I like coffee and i eat my sausages i get from woolies.
R. S.
Great coffee. chic but relaxed cafe in suburban setting. Friendly staff. Child and dog friendly
P. G.
Good casual/bohemian staff (from the old front).
Music needs a serious upgrade, unless they are aiming for the over 55's, then it's spot on.
Great location, plenty of parking.
Needs more couches.
N. O.
Good breakfast -fruit toast with ricotta and berries for me, shakshuka for him - good coffee, good service. Pleasant room if a little cool on a very cold Canberra morning.
N. M.
An institution, consistently great. A neighbourhood icon.
k. d.
very lovely retro vibe and nice beverages when they get it right, but too many times i've ordered chai and been given coffee. They also only gave me one stamp on my loyalty card despite purchasing two drinks.
A. E.
Delicious food. Eggs benedict was cooked to perfection. Fast, friendly service. Bookings recommended
G. A.

J. W.
Really great spot for a coffee or a beer with a really nice outdoor space. Live music is a massive plus.
N. S.
Great coffee and food in warm comfortable environment.
K. G.
Love my local but sadly the coffee is often burnt. The homemade chai is delish, though.
D. B.
Dank food. Can be very busy and tricky to find seating, but mostly because its a great cafe. Currently $5 schooners of Capital brew! Get on it!
A. C.
This is a lovely gem of the downer community. Great to have right next to a beautiful park and a lovely area. The brunch options I would definitely recommend
D. M.
I love the setting, set in some quiet shops, surrounded by parkland. Except someone decided to put the car park right next to the cafe - so you have cars coming and going all the time.
G. G.
Beautiful atmosphere, consistently lovely coffee and lovely staff and music
C. A.
Great coffee, good location and good fast friendly service. An outside area is under cover and able to seat about 30 at the two tables.
c. l.
It was a first time I was at Gang cafe, we had a good time there, specially the dirty chai coffee was fantastic, also the lunch was really good. Hope to visit you again soon.
J. R.
Good coffee, friendly staff. I havent eaten there apart from the odd muffin or croissant.. but those have been pretty average. which is pretty disappointing
