Been going to Island Espresso for years. This is the original coffee shop that got me hooked on proper coffee! Magnificent retro cool building with a chill out lounge upstairs, an outdoor seating area out the back - making the most of the space. But then there's the food - wow! This family have owned the business for probably 20 years and they all work very hard to provide the best quality range of cooked breakfast and lunch meals that you will find anywhere, and very well priced. Then there's the Zimmah coffee (which is owned by the same family). The girls are absolutely specialists in the art of making an excellent coffee, the consistency is outstanding. Definitely worth a 5 min walk up from the city. I am fortunate it is only a couple of minutes walk from my work. I suggest you check out this little gem - you won't be disappointed!

Deliciously smooth coffee (with lovely latte art!) goes down a treat with a yummy choc chip cookie. Soulful background music, gorgeous greenery and friendly baristas; a good decision to stop here for my afternoon caffeine hit.

4.5 Stars We grabbed lunch here and really enjoyed our food. We ordered a bowl of chips, a chicken pesto wrap, a mango and chia smoothie and a chocolate milkshake. The only let down was the chocolate milkshake. It wasn't very cold and tasted like it didn't have any chocolate in it at all! However, the staff were really nice and served everything promptly. I would definitely come back - just not to order a chocolate milkshake!

The coffee and food here are both great, and the staff are really friendly and genuine. Plus, the loyalty cards give good discounts :) 10/10 would recommend the iced coffees and the poached eggs!

I also think this place serves some of the best coffee you'll find in Hobart town. The space is well laid-out, cosy and interesting (check out the little courtyard at the back). Haven't tried their food but it did look very nice from what I could see on other people's tables. I also liked they good quality crockery/coffee cups. A must visit...

Great coffee in gorgeous heritage building with a cosy mezzanine and rear courtyard, in the cool precinct of Midtown. Friendly service in a family-run business, with a toy box for kids and comfy couches to lounge on.

This is the coziest coffee joint I've been to in Hobart so far, sat in the loft upstairs for a couple hours reading with some nice joe and have kept coming back. Not sure about the food as all I've had is the coffee but it smelled nice!
