Yum!!
We found this little gem on our recent trip to Hobart.
Great range of single Os and blends.
Served at the perfect temp. 🙂
J. K.
So glad that I found this gem before I left Hobart! The coffee was nice and the baked goods were all so delicious. The staff were lovely and the interior was a vibe! Would definitely visit again if I am ever back in Hobart.
S. F.
Fantastic coffee, baristas with high quality attention to detail. Well worth any wait even for takeaway. Wil definitely come back. Two lads working super hard and putting out top notch stuff. Thank you for my espresso 👍
J. O.
If you are looking for an accessible location for fantastic coffee in Hobart, Pilgrim offers that. Their coffee was exceptional and the cafe itself was beautiful.
S.
Feel so glad they are finally back! Coffee is great as always, modernized interior design as well as reasonable priced food with good taste.
G. T.
Nice coffe and excellent customer service. The egg was perfect cooked and pork sausage was too good. Salad is another tick for this coffee shop. Only the sourdough was a bit too burn to eat.
R. W.
The coffee here is exceptional, and the food is excellent as well. We split eggs on toast with bacon and the American Cheesesteak Sliders, and it was all really tasty. One of the best breakfast eateries in Hobart.
J. Y.
AWESOME service and quality product
Was visiting from Darwin and needed a break and popped in - great clean environment and the service was excellent and the best cinnamon scroll ever.
D. B.
Awesome coffee, great staff and really good snacks too.
m. l.
Excellent food and coffee and good prices, nice music and vibe inside.
S. F.
Food was great but it took forever to come. It was a public holiday and I appreciate them being open but it wasn't crowded enough to justify the wait. Staff were helpful and chat with us about the menu. I recommend anything with the poached eggs, they were runny perfection. Coffee was excellent.
R. B.
Very good coffee, great staff, cool interior.
A. B.
This place is a real gem. I'm so glad I made the stop to come here for breakfast and coffee.
The staff were very enthusiastic about their work and you could really feel the sense of pride in them.
The decor is too perfect and I love the use of the antiques throughout the place. Even the bathrooms were awesome! It wasn't overwhelming and it created the perfect atmosphere that makes this cafe stand out so well amongst all the other cafes in the area.
The food and coffee looked so good it was almost a shame to eat but my god it was good haha I can't even begin to explain it. You just have to go and try it!
I will definitely be coming here again and I highly recommend this place to anyone living, staying or passing through Hobart.

My first cup of coffee in Hobart was pilgrim. They were in argyle st a few years ago. One of my favorite coffee shops. Still flat white.
P. B.
Stopped off for breakfast in this predominately coffee cafe. I'm only drinking tea these days though and was pleased with the small choice available that would suit most tea drinkers but certainly not tea officianados (but tea is not what you typically come here for with champion baristas on the coffee machine).
The menu is not your typical breakfast menu, not that you expect it from this place, with black pudding on the menu, along with rice pudding and other delicacies. You can have a semblance of a full breakfast though if you add it together on one of their options.
(Property of) Pilgrim collaborates with a number of other businesses around Hobart and you can also enjoy sourdough from Imago bakery cafe on Elizabeth Street.
Service was prompt and tables well in demand. A busy vibrant city cafe
M. H.
Coffee was good (saving grace) however the food was a massive let down. We had the Potato Hash and Full Vegan (pictured) which were both on the small side for portions and were mediocre. Seems pretty overrated...
N. C.
Sunday Brekky. Great coffee and friendly service, but let down by a really slow kitchen; a smidgen over half an hour for eggs and bacon is a bit much
A. L.
I visited here a few years on an Easter long weekend with my husband. Loved the coffee and amazing food, especially the waffle, which was so fluffy and moreish. Note - I don't eat meat so you can also get it without the bacon.
Quirky little cinema chair seats and a good location. Opens early but get in quick as it gets busy!
R. E. c.
Fantastic ice-macha and muffins are great, well priced and friendly fast service was first time took over an hour on public holiday and food wasn't that great , cafe has a trendy relaxed atmosphere and heaps of seating inside and out .
S. A.
If you’re looking for espresso with depth, complex flavour and just generally something that makes you stop and appreciate how unbelievable coffee can actually be then you have to check Pilgrim’s out.
Not only has the coffee been made to literal perfection, the pastries and food are perfect also. I can’t rate Pilgrim Coffee enough.
J. Y. A. N.
One of the better coffee place in tasmania. I only had a takeaway but can see that the cafe is quite a hit with both tourist and locals alike.
They're not roasters (I think) as I see some of the major Melbourne roasters beans on the shelf but the baristas are great.
T. G.
In a city which has made leaps and bounds in coffee culture, Pilgrim still leads the pack. Consistently excellent coffee. Prompt, efficient service and lots of seating if you’re having in. Highly recommended.
I.
Cool atmosphere! Swanky little hole in the wall cafe with nice staff. Service was fast and coffee tasty. Clean place and nice aesthetic. Great place for a quick cupojoe with a buddy or two.
P. G.
Loved the rustic crockery & the service, prices & food were excellent. Highly recommended.
The red wine, beef & rosemary pie was superb. The flavours were rich & beautifully balanced.
M. T.
Have frequented the best cafes in Melbourne for years, Pilgrim serves the best coffee of about 4 decent coffee focused cafes in Hobart. I enjoy the "grab and go" nature of the new, revamped cafe. 10/10 I'm back to being a regular.
F. Y.
The iced coffee was among the best I had and the food was quite delish
S. A. t.
Excellent food and coffee here ❤
M. V.
Amazing coffee. Yummy and healthy breakfast. The barista is a legend. Did I mention how good is the coffee? :))
J.
Honestly this place produces some of the best coffee in Australia. The team here have put in alot of work into the shop and you won't be disappointed in their coffee and pies. They are unreal.
D. W.
Great little cafe. Nice fit out with the old brick interior.
j. t.
Unique dishes, great coffee and friendly staff.
K. S.
All staff are very friendly and professional. Every coffee I've gotten from here has been made perfectly.
The cups are quite small so the coffee is stronger than average, but if you like milky coffee they'll leave a shot out if you ask.
G. H.
Great coffee in an eclectic atmosphere. Good menu and prompt service at a good price.
B. N.
Positives:
- Very nice coffee in terms of taste, but was borderline luke-warm
- The caramel rice pudding was yummy
Negatives:
- The service: ordered a small double latte. Was brought a cappuccino. When I told the waitress that I'd ordered a latte, she said with a good hint of sass that they only serve cappuccinos. No big deal, but it would have been a lot more professional if she'd informed me of this when I'd ordered a latte in the first place.
D. H.
Says a lot about a coffee place when they can get a long black right... the temperature allowed me to drink it straight away! So many places get this simple matter so wrong. Wife had a piccolo and she loved her coffee too.
Highly recommended.
Edit: Came back and tried the food. Outstanding! Can’t recommend enough!!
N.
The famous Hobart cafe. Staff are great and so is the coffee. Always worth the visit.
J. S.
I'm saying best coffee in Hobart! Pastries are yum too. So glad they're back after the fire a few years back.
L. B.
Visiting for dark mofo. Very clever to make a special menu to ensure they could cope with extra busy time.
The hostess was very polite and accommodating and the wait staff who were run off their feet were also lovely. The food was decent and the coffee was delicous. Despite being very busy it was still good.
I recommend they get a "please wait to be seated sign" as we noticed quite a few customers with no sense of anyone but themselves trying to sneakily undercut others for a table.
D. W.
Rustic, hearty, healthy food and sensational coffee are the reasons this place has attracted so many five star reviews. The breakfast bowl is a delight of seasonal and local produce cooked so the food is the true hero. Also, vegan and vegetarian friendly menu.
M. N.
These guys still brew the best chai you’ll ever taste. No yucky powder here. Thanks for coming back
L. C.
Great little coffee shop - overshadowed by some of the independent roasters in Hobart. Service appeared a bit rushed but generally keen and attentive. No food this time, though options looked interesting - especially the hangover special!
C. J.
Great coffee and a sausage roll with an actual sausage - they don’t have that in Sydney 😍
J. S.
Excellent coffee. Friendly & speedy service - even when they're packed during the morning rush. Eating in is always enjoyable - their menu is full of unique breakfast & lunch options. It's not cheap - but you get what you pay for!
A. T.
Great service great coffee only issue is wait time and that's only because they are so popular
S. R.
Pilgrim cafe is seriously stylish. Great fit-out, edgy vibe. I found the coffee there to be extremely good; I haven't tried the food but it dioes seem very enticing. The staff was super friendly too. In my top 5 cafes in Hobart!
J. V.
Excellent coffee. Good food. Friendly service. Don't need anything more really.
J. S.
Great coffee and food. 5 stars for those. 3 stars for the service quirks. The shop opens for coffee at 630 but no food till 730. You can sit in one place for coffee but you have to move tables to eat good. No Wi-Fi. No salt and pepper on the tables. Quirky service in general.
M. S.
Very good coffee, doubled up
N.
The hashbrowns were delicious. Good coffee. Worth a visit.
M. B.
My favourite coffee spot in Hobart. The baristas are extremely skilled and knowledgable - if you want good coffee handled right then this is the place to be. Queues are long in a morning, but there’s plenty space to wait and it’s well organised. The menu is quirky and well thought out - a pulled rabbit breakfast dish being a personal favourite.
K. K.
Good service and great coffee. Opens on Sunday!!!
M. K.
Looked up the 'Best Coffee in Hobart" whilst visiting. The establishment offers a beautiful setting and quick service. The coffee was pretty bang on too. Enjoyed the beverage on my drive out of town and would definitely recommend.
A. L.
Great breakfast menu with interesting twists on cafe staples, excellent coffee and fun looking muffins, croissants and other pastries. Service and ambience also on point although if you want a take away coffee in the morning, allow for a short wait.
A. S.
With the recent menu & chef change, food is now as good as the coffee and this place is a delight! The staff really care about what they are making you - be it a double espresso or the gruyere and chive omelette with farm fresh asparagus.
S. W.
Excellent coffee (great filter coffee) but the latest menu is a massive disappointment, especially when half of what actually seems exciting is unavailable and there was no specials at all. As a foodie, the only meal in my entire Tasmanian trip that was subpar.
K. C.
Hip industrial style building, bare brick and stone walls, with spiffy lighting. Separated take away area from the dining room, which gives the cafe a really chilled vibe. A small but substantial menu, and the kitchen was accommodating to our dietary needs of gf and df with no fuss. Good coffee selection and the service was both polite and warm. Good job Pilgrim :)
A. A.
Food was delicious - the French toast brioche was tasty and the pilgrim breakfast was great. The service could use some work - all lovely staff but very slow, possibly in need of another person to speed things up.
A. M.
This establishments coffee deserves 5 stars. The barista and waiter are friendly even at 6.40am in the morning and if you decide to go for breakfast the kitchen opens at 7 but if you arrive a bit early the front of house staff will see if Chef can accommodate. No promises. Pilgrim has two entrances but Argyle Street is you best bet. The atmosphere is minimalist with plaster stripped back to show the brick beneath. The music is just the right tempo regardless of the day and oh yes don't forget the amazing coffee.
Just a word of warning. If you arrive behind 10+ people first thing in the morning you might be waiting longer than you would like. This is not a Starbucks with 3-5 baristas.
b. s.
Great coffee. Heritage building with hand hewn sandstone. Beautiful spot.
L. B.
Friendly and efficient service, tasty, interesting sandwichs and smooth coffee... Great first visit... L
R. H.
Coffee was the best I've had in Tassie, not much seating though.
A. O.
Best brekky in Hobart! We ended up eating there a few times because it was soo good!! The staff was also super nice and I recommend making a booking because it can be pretty busy! We loved the crumpets and the jaffels!! AMAZING! :)
R. W.
Top notch coffee and food. Filters and 'spros done really nicely, must be the best in Hobart. Amazing waffles too. Ditch the popcorn served with the coffee - hipster bullshit
S. D.
Coffee was excellent. I've been there twice, first during a weekday so I got my coffee straight away, but on a Sunday morning, it's extremely busy. Coffee waiting time could be 15 minutes or more.
Y. Å. M. Ê. Z.
Friendly, fast staff & the best coffee in Hobart. What more is there to say?
S. P.
Great coffee great food
S. P.
Very cute decor, friendly staff, interesting food with a small but well done menu. Only compliant was that the coffee was weak (but still tasty.) Would go back.
J. T.
Edit: New menu is a bit on the rubish side if you are vegetarian but still great for coffee.
Fantastic food, awesome service even though we accidentally poped in just as the kitchen was closing.
M. J.
Curious to see the architecture of the shop but coffee was not bad as well.
K. J.
Good music, good coffee, good food and really polite staff
Z.
Although it said there were broad beans in my meal on the menu there were none to be seen when it arrived. When I enquired the waiter responded that the broad beans "were not physically there" but suggested they were of a more esoteric or deconstructed nature, perhaps in a mist form. Another waiter who delivered our coffees refused to take our order for more, simply shaking his head and backing away. Despite its theoretical approach to legumes and stomach turning piercings worn by some of the staff, the asparagus and coffee were fantastic!
R. P.
Excellent stop for very good coffee and easy but little bit different breakfast so close to the hospital. Loved the atmosphere and service standards.
p.
Easily one of the best coffee spots in Hobart. Great food menu too. And really nice chai and other caffeine alternatives
S. A. C. S.
Great coffee and food. Could use a bit more variety on the menu though.. Service we had was amazing!
B. P.
Great coffee & atmosphere, but truly terrible service....
On both occasions, my order was forgotten.
After nearly 25 minutes, I received my sandwich and coffee. No apologies, either...
M. L.
Great little coffee shop ! Managed to dash in on our last day in hobart. Breakfast was delicious and the staff were very friendly and accommodating.
L. B.
Brilliant coffee, hands down the best I've had in Hobart. Does get a little busy at times, but the staff are always friendly.
H. F.
This place absolutely bumps. Delicious coffee and great food, friendly service. Definitely worth the visit for the awesome interior, too.
R. S.
Excellent coffee. One of the best in Hobart.
E. B.
Pilgrim is one of my favourite cafés in Hobart. Rocking the half done renovation look, it is bringing hipster to Hobart. The only let down is that it serves from the cabinet. Imagine a full kitchen in this place!
R. M.
Great atmosphere and friendly staff. Coffee is very good.
E. A.
Good for a serious coffee lover. Great food and service. Clever layout and interior design.
T. A.
Fantastic Coffee, great little place to grab a delicious breakfast. Very unique and tasty menu.
A. K.
Was generally one of the better cafes - both for coffee and food - of my overall experience in Hobart, but when you're looking at prices on par with Sydney cafes ($20-$25 a main for breakfast) it's a bit frustrating.
N. N.
Great little spot for coffee and breakfast! Definitely be going back if in town again! Coffee was awesome!
W. M.
Best coffee I've had in Hobart so far. Great service, good vibes and the French Toast was great!

Great coffee and a great cruffin
G. F.
Great food, cute & rustic interior, awesome selection of juices, coffees, and teas. A really nice place to relax, with or without company.
D. K.
Great atmosphere, coffee and staff. Seems a bit much to charge $7 for a slice of toast and butter.
M. W.
My favourite breakfast place in Hobart! Always delicious, innovative and healthy breakfasts.
R. D. B.
As an out-of-towner who has tried a few this is easily the best coffee in Hobart two trips in a row.

(Translated) Stable taste and quality.
This is the place to eat breakfast in Hobart. You can enjoy abundant and new food. Last time I had a French toast + bacon dish. The sweetness of maple syrup and the saltiness of bacon matched the taste!
