Fantastic coffee! A little hidden away but worth the trip.
I’d like to add to this following lockdown, and say, this cafe, still great. I went twice today. Back in the city again for work. It’s hard to find a place that hasn’t closed or has retained their good staff.
Still my fav spot in the city for coffee.

great coffee and great location. The place is very nice. I didn't try their food but I believe they have a very delicious food. The coffee is my favourite. I got batch brew coffee and it was amazing.

Frequently have coffee from here but decided to also try lunch and was not disappointed!
Very delicious baked eggs and service is always friendly and efficient :)

Awesome Axil Coffee has arrived in the city CBD with their full food/ cafe offering. Located on the ground floor of an office building, the cafe can be accessed from the street or via the building lobby atrium. BTW there’s a separate Axil coffee stand by the entrance of the lobby if you’re passing by and just want to grab a coffee on the go.
Food menu is identical to their Hawthorn Cafe. And the food is just as good - beautifully presented and delicious! Coffee is absolutely perfect too, just what you’d expect from Axil.
Service is wonderful, so friendly and so welcoming.
Great addition to this “quieter” side of the city CBD.

One of the beautiful things I love about Melbourne is its diversity. And when it comes to food that is especially do. This morning I needed to sit down and eat rather than 'on the go' and came to Axil Coffee Roasters which was buzzing with customers and barristas keeping up with the orders.
I chose a skinny latte and a chicken & cheese jaffle, made with poached free range chicken caramelised leek and Victorian cheddar. Perfect. Taste was light and wonderful with generous amount of all ingredients.
A few others were choosing to dine in as well. My table ticket was a large wooden letter 'M'. Water was quickly put on the table and I sat and admired the wall mural - quite mesmerising.
As I was leaving I noticed the large array of pastries and sweet treats which come from Penny for Pound (big tick).
Look forward to returning in the warmer months and dining outdoors in the undercover space of Southern Cross Lane.
Staff were lovely and friendly. Considering how busy they were, it was nice they were cheerful during the morning rush.
Notes: wheelchair friendly. Kid friendly. Dietaries catered for. Easy to find. Products such as coffee and other ancillary items also available for sale on the right hand side of the store as you walk in.

I love the long black spritzer here, although it is more like a treat for $8. Food is also very good. Definitely my favourite brunch in the city.

Great coffee. Love it for takeaway, but not my favourite place to sit down or eat.

A nice trendy cafe with warm lighting and warm coloured seating.
Soy chai latte, powdered but not too sweet.
Potato rosti with poached, eggs, bacon, asparagus, soft herbs and red capsicum sauce. The thick bacon adds saltiness to the semi sweet sauce. The rosti is well fried with the most delicate potato shavings.

Full flavoured strong latte. Partners decaf tasty - slightly strong for her taste but well made. Toast and jam was good and served as split portions on separate plates (without asking) - Friendly staff.

I never check broadsheet but today was my day. The food was exceptional and the service was great. Really friendly staff. Can't recommend the Orecchiette enough! Please don't remove this from the menu AXIL.

Great space for a business coffee chat/meeting. This Axil rings true to its solid brunch and lunch fare. Consistently great coffee and chais.

This is the most amazing ☕ ever, we bought 8 bags to take home. The rich flavor and how they Brew it was just wonderful.

Excellent coffee, good choice of sweets and pastries. Easy access and well located. Staff are friendly. Keep in mind that you have to wait to be seated, at the entrance booth, unless you are taking away.

One of the best coffee around. Service is second to none. Try their small batch coffee.

I needed a place to eat and do a little work, and this was great!
If you’re GF, the menu has a number of great options. I had the fritters and they were fantastic. Staff was friendly and helpful. The vibe of cafe is a on the higher end, but still manages to be totally welcoming and friendly.
If you are hoping to work for a long period of time, I didn’t see any outlets, so this would not be a place to do that.
Lots of people taking meetings in suits, a few solo dinners. Great place for business people and travelers alike.

Within weeks of opening this venue has become the benchmark for awesome coffee and friendly service in the area. The menu may seem slightly more expensive at first glance but the quality (and portion size) more than outweigh the money. These guys know how to do the café industry right.

Classic cafe establishment that has been around for as long as coffee culture has been a fad in Melbourne. The food brunch menu is always top notch and provides great variety for all people. The coffee is the real highlight here and the aromas fill the place like it demands attention. Will be on my list if places to return.

Great coffee although not somewhere to go during busy periods of the day as the line and wait can get pretty long. Whilst they have a coffee cart out the front of the building it never seems to be quite as good as coffee made from inside. If you have the time get in line. It’s worth it
B.
One of the best cafes in the area, comfortable seating, delicious coffee and a good selection of food

The avocado on toast is one of the biggest servings of avocado I've had at a cafe. It's somewhat pricey if you're not familiar with Melbourne prices. The food is tasty. Can get busy during pre office hour breakfast times. Stock a very good decaf coffee!

Excellent coffe and great service

First of all, I could not put bad review because I love Axil beans. But what happened at this store, today, made me upset. Cashier was doing something else like counting coins and doing some boxes thingy and also talk to me at the same time while took order and that made me uncomfortable and being looked down and he didn’t say anything else just “yes? Okay (my coffee order) it’s 5.2$”, I felt like he didn’t appreciate/respect me. I’m not sure if the managers allow that or maybe he is the manager, but I personally as a customer don’t like that kind of service (in takeaway coffee area). He didn’t say much, he just need the information from me to put into the system as he was the one who was taking customers’ order. I never got this kind of service in Melbourne.
