Comments of Babajan Eatery
K. H.
I’ve been going here for years, the staff are always so friendly and the food is really delicious. I do miss their sit down breakfasts but the pivot to mostly take away was smart!
O. K.
Babajan' Turkish / Middle Eastern breakfast - brunch Menu was convincing enough to travel, and by the time we reached, we were super-duper hungry.
Ordered a Hot Chocolate and a Latte to go with Simit / Turkish Bread served with butter and spiced Jam, Crab and Halloumi Omelette, Turkish Pizza (sorry, can't remember the name) and Lamb with Poached Eggs
We were joined by our friend, and Ozzy and He loved the Turkish Pizza sprinkled with Sumac ,(ee love Sumac) but for me, personally, it was extremely sour for my palate.
Simit / Turkish Bread was loved by all three. Especially the orange marmalade jam that seemed to be spiced with saffron and cardamon (could be wrong too)
Crab and Halloumi Omelette lacked the sweetness of crab meat, and couldnt see the Halloumi at all. Though, the salad served with it tasted good.
Poached Eggs served with Beetroot Salad with Lamb was quite decent.
Hot chocolate was fantastic but the Strong Latte tasted a bit burnt. The bottomless Tea never arrived, and neither did we realize until we got home.
Quite a rollercoaster ride of likes and dislikes making it quite difficult for us to rate them. Probably, we weren't too lucky that day (not that they were too busy).
Service was quick.

Mediterranean food is one of my favourite cuisines and Babajan is a lovely place to source it. I’ve only dined there during covid so I can’t vouch for their full menu, but their takeaway counter offerings are fresh and delicious. I particularly love the falafel roll and the roasted capsicum and potato salad (although all their salads are lovely). They also make a mean soy flat white. I can’t wait to visit again.
N. R.
The most delicious picnic perfect food in Fitzroy North! If you’re craving some deliciousness this is our favourite local for yummy salads, borek, cakes and freshly baked breads. Love this place!
L. P.
Highly recommend catering services - really delicious quality food and was very happy with the pricing. Lots of options for omnivores or vegetarians.
A. C.
Incredible food. Very different brunch food - perfect if you are bored of the standard smashed avo and poached eggs. Fresh ingredients, so much flavour and lovely staff. Would recommend the eggplant toastie! Cold brew was flavoursome and turkish coffee was chocolatey.
J. L.
Great place with good service. Middle eastern food was made well and it's different to your usually smashed avocado toast but very delicious. Prices are a little high though.
S. H.
We went there having heard good things and it comfortably lived up to our expectations. Really interesting and different menu, amazing staff who helped us choose what to eat and terrific coffee (both espresso and cold drip). Their salads looked amazing for a takeaway lunch option as well!
M.
Absolutely delicious food as per usual. Eggplant Aleppo was 🔥🔥 and the rice pudding just delicious.
K. W.
The ezme was excellent. A little pricier than most cafes, but the flavour is in a whole other league. Impressive selection of pastries.
A. L.
Hands Down the best of the best breakfast first place ever. Despite my busy schedule I always find the time to get eat here. Flavorful Salad, Extraordinary menu, Delicious Eggplant Aleppo.
P. L.
One of the best boutique Turkish cafe. Flavourfull and tasty.
G. H.
Great addition to the Nicholson Street shops - amazing coffee, amazing cakes and savoury bites, as well as delicious mains - most middle eastern or fusion - meaning there are really nice new flavours. Always very fresh, making food through the day.
The salads are amazing - I get them to go when going to a BBQ (better than I could ever make!)
A. A. C.
Delicious food and coffee
Excellent service, staff is super friendly!
100% coming back
A. D.
Great salads run by a great group of peeps. Highly recommend!
R. C.
Beautiful cake and coffee!:)
T. H.
Fantastic brunch. Be warned: the servings are generous. You won’t leave hungry. And the taste is exceptional. Great value for money brunch. Staff were friendly and professional. They make a small space work very well, although it does fill up quickly.
M. S.
Staff friendly, meals are fresh and well presented, staff hard at work. Must try!
S.
The veggie pie was really delicious. However I find the breakfast to be overpriced. Also, noticed flies everywhere and several sitting on the takeaway food which threw me off. The restaurant was very busy when we arrived but we were seated right away which was very nice and despite the business we were served right away and the food came quickly. Not bad overall.
A. R.
Service was good. Food was good. The baked eggs looked really good, I foolishly didn't get it. I shared a mix of bakery items and sides and a salad, which was satisfying but would definitely get one of the mains instead next time
E. L.
I came here for a quiet Friday brunch with my wife. Absolutely fantastic. Very friendly staff who gave us water for our dog. Fantastic coffee and the food was amazing. I had the rice pudding (a weakness of mine) and loved it. Avoid this place if you have an issue with nuts (so many pistachio's and almonds) but really good.
P. A.
The food was goos and the atmosphere we liked BUT the lady that was servicing our table was more than RUDE. She wasn’t wearing an apron so I imagine her either being the owner or manager. I have never experienced this attitude in any of my dining experiences in Melbourne. Ruined it for me.
J. O.
Tasty traditional Turkish food with many healthy choices. The counter salads are a meal in themselves, especially with Turkish bread. The Turkish pastries are special, very sweet and often with nuts as an ingredient... OK, less healthy but difficult to resist. I have found the service and coffee very good. The cafe restaurant is small and can be noisy at busy times.
A. J. A.
We were excited to try out Babajan when we hit the road. We really liked the Alepo. The coffee was average. I ordered Menemen Turkish Baked Eggs and to be honest I was surprised to be charged twenty something for that. So I guess things that could be worked on are the customer experience, coffee, and possibly some of the prices.
N. Z.
One of the very few places in Melbourne that serves authentic Turkish home style food and modern cuisine with healthy options instead of the misrepresentation out there of kebab shops which does not represent what Turkish people eat. This place nails it and more. Everything from breakfast to lunch. the only issue with this place - its tiny - sits only around 20 people. You may get unlucky if doing a walk in. The owner needs to move into a bigger place or open another one. Come back and go through the entire menu - especially the salads!
J. F.
The food was great but at moderately higher prices than other brunch spots. The dining area is quite small so if you're coming on the weekend with 6+ people, prepare for a big wait (our group of 8 waited around an hour and fifteen minutes). They do split bills. They also have a nice bakery selection with takeaway options.
T. S.
Real score 4.2.
Babajan has been on my radar for a while. As soon as I entered I started kicking myself I hadn’t been here already. It’s fabulous.
This struck me as the perfect cafe to visit if you’re in a hipster style brunch rut. Too many avo smashes, a few too many big brekkies anyone. This is the cure. The food here is genuinely unusual. It demands to be tried. I love modern middle eastern type food and they do it here very very well here. I wandered up to the counter and was immediately goggle eyed at the food available. I couldn’t wait to get at it. I ordered a lentil salad and a chicken salad with pumpkin, chicken peas etc. Both dishes were utterly delicious. The textures and flavours were outstanding. I savoured every single mouthful. You know that feeling of regret as you come to the last little bits of really good dishes. I had that here big time. I really didn’t want to finish these dishes. They were wonderful.
My coffee to finish was a beauty too. Dark, deep, inky and rich. Melbourne in a cup. I had one last 1% observation. They have an awesome sound system here. They had a fantastic playlist on. I’m serious. It is a terrifically rich sound they offer here. Best I’ve ever heard in a cafe of this size. I love music. A good sound system matters.
It’s a great cafe. It’s a must visit.
K. S.
Great service. I had the falafel and poached eggs for breakfast which was fresh and utterly delicious.
R. C.
Love this place and the food. Best and most memorable brunch cafe to pop up in the last few years serving up some unique Turkish inspired dishes with a seasonal menu. Owner Kirsty is really inspiring!
G. H. W.
Babajan was a cafe that my girlfriend and I had read about for years and hadn't quite made it around to trying. We got a salad to share (rice pilaj with beans etc.) which was one of the best salads I've ever had and a spinach and mushroom Borek. What a combo! We then shared a baked egg dish with potato hash and bread and it was simply delicious. Ruby then ordered a slice of Persian love cake to go and the beautiful staff even through in a couple of Portuguese custard tarts in for free. Not only were they delicious but it just shows how much the café values brilliant service. What an experience and we'll certainly be coming back again soon.
S. S.
Super healthy keto choices 👍👍👍
L.
One of my favourite places. Amazing salads, delicious cabbage rolls and crab and haloumi omelette. The staff are fantastic. Free recipes via their email list. Would love a reason to order from their catering service.
c. b.
So its Turkish - great. A good choice of foods and vegetarian varieties. Coffee was bad and service was sooo slow. Don't go on the week end as staff seem to be overwhelmed. But the worst thing is that is is very expensive for what you get. Not a cheap place nor one for a quick meal.
L. H.
Really tasty food however a bit overpriced and being located in a small cramped space brings Babjan down a few notches. Nice staff but can be a bit abrupt working out how to manage everyone. Yummy tasty food that is different to your usual breakfast options though! Lovely bready carby options, baked eggs, pides, burek and more. Coffee was quite good too.
N. R.
Turkish and Middle Eastern baked goods/brunch/coffee/take-away vendor, all the food is yummy, and the coffee is nice. The seating is a bit pokey and it can fill-up so dodging brunch o'clock is recommended.
G. S.
Good food, average coffee, impersonal service. Lots of potential if a little bit of the Turkish charm offensive was cranked up. Its a storybook with no pages, just a great cover. I wish them well.
M. A.
Great place with delicious Turkish pastry.
K. N.
Came on a recommendation from a friend, and loved it! We shared three meals between three of us and all were absolutely delicious. Coffee was on point too. Will definitely be back.
D. O.
Fantastic Turkish inspired breakfast, it's very original food with good coffee and drinks. Would be one of my fav cafes north-side because of the deviation away from the standard poached eggs brunch spot.
y. s.
Great staff! Very attentive and friendly. Coffee from codeblack and quiet enjoyable. However, food didn’t match up to the hype. We ordered the lahmajun and the aleppo fried egg. Flavours were overpowering that prevented us from enjoying both dishes. The short crust pastry texture in the lahmajun resembled the taste of a pie. I understand the creativity behind the dish yet the failure to create a perfect dough was a let down for me. The aleppo eggs were overcooked and there was just too many strong flavours that didn’t match. The innovative motivation behind this establishment is inspiring yet it is also important to respect the natural flavours of ingredients. I also felt that babajan was a little overpriced for what they are serving.
A. S.
I know it's North Carlton but it's a little too expensive and there's no mid-lower priced options on the menu. The balance of flavours in the dish I ordered was out as well, all components to the meal were too sour pickley and lemony. Friendly staff and nice setting though.
C. S.
The food here is exquisite. I can't wait to go back and make my way through their amazing breakfast menu, not to mention their amazing looking salads. I went with a friend who travelled 45mins across town because she said the food was worth it and she was right!
H. S.
Always delicious healthy choices of salads.
W. L.
Really great brunch food with excellent flavours. I particularly enjoy their daily salad offerings. Great coffee and drinks selection, would happily go back again
K. J.
Amazing and unique dishes! Dessert options are way too good and it is hard to choose! Great coffee too. Really nice and friendly staff
N. V.
Their fig apple and almond pie just melts in the mouth. I had a mocha from the cafe and it was just brilliant. The staff is very polite as well. Wonderful experience.
S. C.
If I could afford to live in this cafe, I would. Extremely friendly staff and staggeringly good food. A little on the steep side, but worth it for the flavours and generous servings.
D. L.
Great coffee, everyone wore their masks properly and they had a proper plan to minimise any risks
M. B.
Turkish (or Mediterranean) Cafes with a Western twist have become quite popular. Babajan is a clear crowd favourite among the best.
The choice of flavours here are wholesome. The Turkish cuisine featuring sucuk, simit, bogrek or ezme is deliciously complemented with your standard smashed avo, eggs, or trout.
Noteworthy that the meals here are pricey, but the portions are generous with quality - well worth the price. The menu is also subject to seasonal change, however we are yet to be disappointed with the newer options.
We highly recommend you to try Babajan - even if you're not familiar or a fan of Turkish food. Also give Chai (Turkish tea) or kahve (Turkish coffee) a go!
A. D. S. G.
I loooove the variety of salads (very filling and tasty, and well served to take-away), they have also the best home made smoked hummus I've ever tried. Not mentioning the good turkish bread always soft and fresh.
X. B.
Good food but the waiter serving us forgot to bring cutlery and proceeded to wilfully ignored us. Eventually we got our own. It was a shame to see the good food be let down by a grouchy millennial waiter having a bad hair day
G. S.
The food and coffee/cakes here are delicious. I always receive the most friendly and welcoming service from the staff. One of my favorites.
M. N.
Delicious and unusual brunch. Such a refreshing change for Melbourne. There are no GF bread options which is a shame as the meal I had really needed an accompaniment.
J. P. J.
We were there for brunch and the food was excellent and the staff lovely. We didn't have time to try the baked sweets but they looked delicious. We will definitely be back for more.
N. M.
Babajan service and food is top quality! I ordered the breakfast DIY Aleppo Toastie Pack with coffees! So good!!!
J. B.
Quite the success. Has done well staking out its niche in the competitive Fitzroy scene...innovative menu, delivered dishes demonstrate a focus on quality...no fru-fru just for the sake of the shalloe insta snapping crowd.
A. T.
Amazing flavours and great service. The salads are not your normal
salads! The eggs are delicious too. I recommend adding the lamb. It melts in your mouth!
R. B.
Really, really delicious food and great tukrish coffee and a great attitude and energy in the staff! Muchly recommended, April 2019.
Came back on the 11th of May 2019 and the coffee is still strong and the food is still amazing!
J. K.
Best breakfast I’ve had in months. Unique flavours!
E. R.
Very welcoming 😃
A. G.
Overpriced but quite delicious. I experienced a rather old skool up sell from the waiter on the lamb and then a fairly strident upsell for 10am cocktails...the food was delicious but the coffee wasn't any good.
J. M.
Great selection if healthy and unique salads. The coffee is great and the vibe is fantastic. Be guided by the staff's selection of delicious desserts and salads.
W. B.
I came here with my dear friends Osker and Seb. The food was top notch, a real slam dunk. I dug the vibe. A little on the pricey side and Seb couldn't afford his food so I had to buy it for him but I won't deduct points from Babajan for that.
A. N.
Fabulous pide, salads, borek. Everything is made with care , and extremely delicious. A neighbourhood gem.
N. J.
Delicious salads, pastries and baked goods. We went for brunch a few months ago and will definitely be returning.
Z. A.
Really great brunch. Had the baked eggs, rice pudding and saganaki and will go back for more! Salads and sweets also looked amazing
J. K.
Yep good to get some different cuisine for brekky/brunch/lunch.
Mega delicious, good vibe, coffee. Claire liked it, and she is pretty critical.
B. M.
It's okay quality. Hit and miss. A real overhelpful and underhelpful mix to the service. Would help if actual turkish staff were hired who new how to make turkish tea, or if there was some kind of authentic approach to tie it all together.
V. M.
Terrific food and really lovely service. Thanks!
J. S.
The food and Turkish coffee was great. Offered a good selection of gluten free dishes.
M. N.
Delicious and unusual brunch. Such a refreshing change for Melbourne. There are no GF bread options which is a shame as the meal I had really needed an accompaniment.

The food is fantastic

M. W.
Excellent cafe - a real focus on good food, with regularly changing options. Highly recommended.
N. A.
The food is superb, coffee great, service amazing. The only drawback is that it is too small for the number of people visiting.
T. H.
Nice enough food and staff. But for portion and prices, better to drive a few suburbs up to Coburg or Preston for cheaper alternatives of the same quality.
A. A.
Best costumer service, incredibly friendly!
Food was over the top! Fresh and amazingly tasty
Really recommend it, will definitely be back
J. B.

The food was good when it did arrive.
