Cute cafe serving truly excellent coffee: just the right strength, and obviously freshly roasted. Beautiful courtyard with trees and casual board games. The road is noisy, but it's pleasant regardless — and there is plenty of indoor seating if the noise bothers you. Good vegan options.

A little disappointing. Whilst the staff were attentive, venue was clean and food was tasty, menu was overpriced… not sure about value for money. Ordered a ham/cheese toastie which was served in a love heart shape - not sure whether this was deliberate or just happened to have some odd ends. Sorry I would have preferred two normal slices of bread. Other order was a chicken salad… chicken felt it was sliced deli chicken, although salad was very nice and fresh. Also a smoothie which was a prepackaged juice in a bottle.

It’s a cute cafe on the main drag. Smartly fitted out in the modern style. Weird business model though. Beverages only before lunch. No food at all available to have with a late morning, not even an outsourced muffin. Really really lovely coffee here though. One of the best I’ve ever had in regional Victoria. Strong, creamy and substantive and absolutely perfectly made and nicely presented in a funky cup. Good staff here too who knew their stuff. Fix the pre lunch food situation and it’s a potential five star cafe.

Coffee and food very good, but service patchy, and kitchen extremely slow. The idea that you can wait half an hour for a simple takeaway order is absurd. If you're looking to sit down and have a quiet brunch, great place. If passing through and after a quick breakfast or lunch, don't bother. You'll lose way too much time on the kitchen moving at a snail's pace, and not understanding the concept of takeaway.

Fantastic lunch menu! We stumbled upon lunch hour instead of the intended brunch. We had the tandoori chicken burger and lamb soup/raghu (can't quite remember the name). Both were delicious and the perfect portion size. Coffee was great too. We also love the charming decor inside the cafe, representative of its English namesakes. And the staff were wonderful! We'll back for brunch next time :)

Badger & Hare is a blend between Flinders Lane and Gippsland. Combines an inner city vibe with a country setting. The food is delicious, the coffees are very good. A really good selection of meals are available, with plenty of options. The staff are friendly, welcoming and helpful. We have been here at least 5 times in the last couple of years. It is a must stop in Stratford. Highly recommended.

In every way a great café/restaurant. The service was great, and the food just as good! Some of the best food i've had in Australia, and definitely worth a detour to try. If you havnt tried Badger & Hare’s buttering affogato yet, make a special trip just to try it. It is epic! The frittata was also delicious and I will definitely be back to give their breakfast a try.

Not a huge range of foods, but for a small town cafe, this place is unreal! Amazing food, good beverages. Although the chai are rather small for the price. Chocolate milkshakes for kids are not really sweet flavoured for kids. But still nice. They do toasted sandwiches off the menu for kids too which is handy. And takeaway service is good.

This quirky little cafe caught my eye while cycle touring down the south east coast and was my first coffee stop in 700km! I'm glad this was the place I chose for it. The cafe offered a serene space with a gently crackling fire, and craftfully set out interior. The coffee was great, and the warm welcoming smiles and service of every staff member was definitely the stand out. It wasn't a surprise to see this place frequented by passers by and locals alike. The menu was creative and looked like it was inspired from a place of passion. Liz was full of local knowledge and was kind hearted enough to offer me 2 oranges from their tree! The beautifully buttered banana bread was also the perfect fuel for the rail trail ahead! Overall Great staff, service, and space. Definitely check this place out.

The food is high quality and the setting of the Cafe is easily one of the best in all of Gippsland, with outdoor seating or cosy spots inside by the open fire place with beautiful decor. Worth the drive or mark it as a stop on a long drive as there's not too many places this high quality on the highway

Really REALLY enjoyed brunching at this cafe. Friendly, smiling staff and great service. We ordered the delicious Chorizo Burger, the chorizo was superb, and the Corn Fritters which needed a lil bit of spice (personal opinion, I gravitate towards stronger flavours through), and a piece of sourdough bread on the side, the bread was amazing! They have Duke's coffee and knows what to do with it. A great experience overall.

Nice place to eat. Cafe has been renovated and looks great. The menu has a good variety of meals to choose from and tastes great. The food is is delicious. The staff are friendly and are very accommodating. The only negative would be for parents with prams, there isn't much room inside to place them. And it's even hard to get them through to sit outside.

Today, we went to this newly opened cafe, and had a delightful experience. The place was tastefully decorated, and the garden meticulously attended to. The service was impeccable, and the food delicious. And the prices were very reasonable! Our only regret is that we could not have all day breakfast. We had to wait a little bit for our meals, but it was alright given they have just opened the place and they were very busy. All together very good and we will return.

This quaint little cafe is one not to be missed as you pass through the Gippslands. We were traveling to Melbourne and found cafe late in the afternoon. The cosy atmosphere is something special, with Badgers and Hare decorations through out. We had coffee and cake for 4, and the price was about $40. The food and coffee were good. Like all places, the staff make or break it and the staff at the B&H certainly made it. We felt welcome even though we arrived just before closing. Thanks for a beautiful afternoon tea

Gluten free gem...delicious food,coffee and chai tea..love this place Would like to mention something on my recent visit though.... I arrived at 11 45 to be told they don't serve lunch before 12. I ordered a coffee and waited. At 11.50 5 people walked in who the waitress knew.. she immediately took their order and I waited another 10 mins before she came to take mine. Tbe 5 people all got their meals 20 mins before me... I had just driven 5hrs from Tullamarine airport after being up all night... so this made me quite annoyed. I still love it there but please try to improve the service.

Drove 5 hrs to Stratford to check out some modular homes. Arrived a little early, and after doing a lap of the Main Street happened upon this little gem. As is my way I had tucked into my brekky and forgot to take a photo. So you’ll just have to take my word that it was SO VERY delicious. I had the A-MAIZE-ing Fritters (corn fitters topped w seasonal smash - mine was pumpkin and potato - poached eggs, house made dukkah, corn salsa and red pepper jelly) . My partner had The Badger’s Big brekky - sausage, bacon, poached eggs, mushrooms, house made baked beans on sourdough. He polished that off as well as I did mine. The staff were so obliging and friendly. The decor was really lovely and felt so cosy. We went back before leaving Stratford for our 5 hr drive home and picked up a coffee - which was also really delicious - as well as the housemade wickedly hot chilli sauce. A delicious curry based accompaniment. I certainly won’t mind driving all the way from Cooma to Stratford again with such a wonderful cafe at the destination!
