Came here to try the epic donut burger! Man it was so delicious and insanely creative, never had anything like it before! Very cool concept of a sweet peanut butter jam donut together with a beef patty. A must try! And a pretty photo for the gram :) Their other savoury burgers were pretty tasty too. Decently priced too! They have a range of pretty and yummy donuts too, will be back to try other flavours! Kind staff at the counter to welcome you.

Their burgers are a family take away favourite, satisfying even our most fussiest eater. We've never been disappointed us since we discovered them a couple of years ago. Balwyn Canteen knocks it out of the park in a market that has quite a few burger places. This Friday afternoon, we received delicious complimentary donuts for us to enjoy (I so needed a sugar fix with my coffee after a long week). Keep up the amazing work, you are the BEST and thank you for appreciating and remembering your regular customers. Would have taken a photo of the burgers but they went as soon as they arrived!

This was a fantastic burger. Juicy Patties with a good crust, and not too greasy. Leaves you feeling good after eating it. The Patties are quite thick so go with the single unless you’re extra hungry

Fantastic burgers that can be made on gluten free buns which is awesome for coeliacs (if you’re OK with not a completely GF prep environment) . Unfortunately their chips are not gluten free - so just a heads up that this you can’t get your typical burger and chips meal. Please make your chips gluten free guys :((

It is one of our best spots to have burger in 2021 😋 We ordered: 🍔 TRY IT OR DIET ($15) Donut bun, smashed beef patty, hi-melt cheese, maple bacon, peanut butter & jam 🍔 DELUXE ($14) Crispy fried chicken, swiss cheese, coleslaw, jalapenos, chipotle aioli 🍔 ONION RING ($7) The `TRY IT OR DIET` is surprisingly super good and very addictive - the peanut butter and jam gave an extra depth to the savoury burger. The beef patty was perfectly cooked and the two donut buns were the perfect replacement to the normal buns. This burger will ruin your diet but must-try at least once 😆 The fried chicken burger was also flawless - crunchy crispy full of flavour chicken breast - no complaint at all. Highly recommended burger spot here in Melbourne and we dare you to try one of their crazy burgers here.

Casual burger joint that we wanted to try because of the rave reviews. Firstly the burger was good 👍 we ordered 4 junior burgers, reminded me of a McDonalds junior burger but better. The service was excellent, beautiful friendly staff. The chips were not great, I would definitely skip. For me personally I would of preferred a burger with veggies 🥬 🍅

I need to start this by stating that I am an overweight 27yo male who loves nothing more than good food. I never write Google reviews because why bother right? But today after eating the best burger of my life for the 4th consecutive visit to Balwyn Canteen I sit here in ecstasy wondering what kind of wizardry has gone into the concoction of this Marvellous burger. Once a year for the last 4 years I have travelled 600km to Melb to do nothing other than see a Gold class movie and visit Balwyn canteen. Come to this heavenly place, I beg you, you will not regret it. There is a heaven on earth.

Melbourne's best burgers. End of story. Seriously I've had some good burgers in my time but these burgers are insane. I had the Senior 🍔 w bacon 🥓 and it was delicious. 2 patties 2 cheese pickles and all the sauces 🤤😋🤤😋 my partner had the junior w slaw and she loved it. Not greasy at all and the meat is juicy and cooked to perfection, oh and the bun is perfect. Soft and fluffy with sesame seed and didn't break up 👌 And to top it off the sell donuts 🍩🍩🍩 perfect after the best burgers. Make sure you try the salted caramel thick shake.

IF YOU ARE READING THIS, GO TO BALWYN CANTEEN! We went to Balwyn Canteen and were NOT disappointed. The staff were amazing and replaced a milkshake very kindly after my friend spilt hers. They were great! Ain’t No Mountain High Enough played and all the staff started singing and dancing. LOVED IT. ALSO THE FOOD IS SO GOOD. Every bite from this burger was absolutely amazing! Heaven on earth. Nutella thick shakes are a must have and the donuts are perfect. FIVE OUT OF FIVE STARS.

My first visit will not be my last. All the great reviews lead me to this place & it did not disappoint with a great selection of burger options plus. My selection was absolutely delicious. I was convinced to have all 3 sauces because the combination was great & they were right! It is one of the best burgers I've ever had, plus delicious crisp chips & the donuts they make were melt in the mouth too. Their super burgers will need a greater appetite, but I'll work up to trying one of them. Staff are friendly & very helpful. Parking is on the street or out behind the shops. Well worth a visit!

Burgers and doughnuts oh my! I had the Nutella thickshake which was uber thick and exactly what i wanted! Nothing worse than asking for a thickshake and getting a milkshake. Balwyn Canteen 100% delivered!!!! I also had the Lotus Biscoff doughnut 🤤 seriously decadent!!! You must try Balwyn Canteen! I'll be going back to try their burgers next time!

Deserves the high rating. Burgers are just the right amount of filthy and tasty. Buttermilk buns were soft and fresh, and I was very impressed how much the whole burger stayed together during consumption. Adding bacon was actually too much - they were so generous it was distracting from the chicken taste. The Swiss cheese was so melty and creamy. The donuts were great - the dough wasn't super sweet, more of a bready taste, but it made the glazed donuts extra morish, with the sugar toppings adding just enough. The Nutella donuts were stuffed to the brim. Prices were pretty reasonable too

This place was REALLY hyped up for me, but didn't quite meet my expectations... Don't get me wrong though- this place serves good food. We tried the BFC burger and it was definitely one of the best burgers we've had! It was a little spicy, so be mindful if you're not into spice. The serving size was decent, the chicken was juicy but crispy on the outside, the sauce and cheese combination was perfect and the buttermilk bun was delish! The donuts personally didn't suit our taste buds. They are reasonably priced, are made fresh and come in a small selection of flavours (I think 7 to chose from). We tried Biscoff, tim tam, nutella, peanut butter jelly, OG glaze and oreo. The donuts are quite heavy and dense and the dough is buttery- sort of like a doughnut/soft croissant texture. This would definitely suit some people- but I prefer a lighter fluffier texture dough. The biscoff and nutella donuts were delicious- super sweet, filling, and indulgent, but I personally didn't like the others and found them quite bland (especially the original glaze). Like I said- this is just my opinion. The burgers were great, but the donuts were super hyped up for me, and just didn't meet my expectations. The burgers are up there with some of the best in Melbourne, but I'd recommend a few other donut places before this one. I think we will be back though to try another burger!

Great burgers and donuts. Make sure to ask for lettuce and tomato if you want it in the burger as it's not default. Chicken burgers are delish with crunchy thigh fillet. They also do a rotating range of sweet donuts but we prefer the classics - jam, custard, glazed and Homer (pink glaze with sprinkles).

These donuts sparked my interest after seeing a Facebook post of “The Best Donuts in Melbourne” pyramid, with Balwyn Canteen at the very top. I have to say, they definitely live up to this claim. These donuts were great, so rich and freshly made throughout the day. The burger was good as well, though a bit greasy for my liking. The onion rings were amazing and I will definitely be back for more. They also have Butterbing Cookies for takeaway in little packets which were great snacks to eat the next day. I would recommend the chocolate chip one with brownies and Oreo cookies. So yum!

This place gives me the local fish and chip joint vibes, tad old school with cool graffiti car with doughnut wheels mural on the wall. This isn't a cheap eat, but the portions are generous and the food is very filling, you do get what you pay for. The food came out hot and fresh, with a minimal wait. The doughnuts were yummy, slightly Krispy on the outside, with a soft cloud like middle, they were filled with filling. They also offer campos coffee and milkshakes. There is a core menu, with a couple of specials which often change.

Very unique range of burgers Can't remember the name of the one I had but damn it always good, beef brisket, beef patty, little dollops of fried cheese.. My little bloke (4yo) had a donut and he loved that too. Will be back if I go that way again. 10/10. The only negative, seating inside isn't good. More of a take away venue.

Had the junior burger prior to lockdown and thought it was fantastic. Simple burger on a delicious soft brown bun with 1 beef patty, canteen sauce, some ketchup and mustard. I guess you don't need lettuce and onion to make a good burger ;) Would have given this place a 5 star but when I came in I was served by a girl who was really nice but the the guy in the kitchen just kept staring at me without even saying hi. Made me feel very uncomfortable. If your not going to smile and greet your customers, at least stop looking and staring because it is rude.

It's a pleasure to eat at Balwyn Canteen once a week and I love their food a lot. As I was writing a review, I saw the reviews and was upset by some of the comments that were ridiculing one of the staff members who does not wear a face mask. As a nurse, I spoke to that the employee asked them and they explained to me how they are legally exempt due to health reasons out of their control. Anyways love the food and will be back soon.

I love this place. I love adding a fried chicken patty to the junior cheeseburger because thier fried chicken is the bomb. They also make their own burger buns. I love that. The thickshakes are thiccccc and is almost a dessert themselves. But you gotta try the donuts. Ideally, go with a few mates so you get to try a bit of everything on the menu.

Had a chicken burger today, with onion rings, both were awesome. Really worth 5 stars for the food alone. Be warned, the quality doesn't come cheap, burgers are closer to 15 bucks then 10. In saying that, it would be a crime to sell these burgers for 10 dollars. Bacon was generous and good quality, obviously fresh as lettuce Tom and cheese. Onion rings had proper crispy batter on them (puts all previous onion rings I've eaten to shame), the buns are absolutely top notch (I don't know my bread, but I know a bun can make or break a good burg') and the buttermilk chicken is perfectly fried. The jalapeno mayo/sauce probably made it imo. Makes me wonder how their fish and chips stack up! Good work team

The fillings were tasty, and the glaze was nice. However, the donuts were a bit undercooked and tasted more like bread filled with extremely sweet toppings on it. The service was incredibly good and they recommended me what donut I should have, but the cashier gave us the wrong change. It was too expensive however if the quality was better, I would prefer this more than Krispie Kreme. I reccomend the Bueno donut as that had the most toppings and it suited the price ($4 each). It would be great if you gave out free samples after school ends.
