Comments of Dunkeld Old Bakery and Cafe

Set in its history, the cafe/ bakery have the most amazing options of Croissants, cronuts, tarts and other items to fancy anyone's delight.
Coffee hit the spot for us. We ordered scrambled eggs and poached eggs with side of bacon and Mushroms.
Side of bacon and Mushroms were cooked to perfection, poached eggs were cooked through and didn't have a runny yoke which was missed, though not a huge inconvenience.
Fresh Sourdough and baguettes were available for purchase with multiple preserves also.
I do need to come back and try all the amazing delight I missed this time.

It is the best stopover if you pass south Grampians. They bake fresh and serve fresh as well. I was requested veggie toast which was not in their menu, but they made for me.
V. A.
Lovely place where to have brunch! We had eggs Benedict and loved them! The sourdough was so scrumptious we bought a loaf to bring home!!! Loved the fruit tarts too!!! :)
S. R.
We visited this bakery for breakfast on a good friday. Unfortunately the standard bakery items weren't there like sausage rolls, pies, pasties, etc. The ambience around the bakery is very beautiful. The waiting guys and coffee lady were very friendly. Ordered some avo on toast with eggs and some coffee both of which were alright. Certainly a good place to visit. :)
R. L.
A wonderful bakery! Our favourite pie was the lamb ragu. Freshly baked sourdough loaf was also fantastic.
A. V.
Delicious lunch of sausage rolls or quiche served with fresh salad! Will go back again for more 😋

ABSOLUTE MUST TRY
Quite possibly the best pastry I’ve ever had the pleasure of eating, and friendly staff and delicious coffee too! Highly recommend the croissants and pies (available at lunch), as well as delicious sandwich perfect for a mid-Grampians hike lunch!
T. P.
Outstanding bakery! Pies and sausage rolls are excellent quality and the accompanying salad was fresh and delicious. And, there's good coffee.
m. h.
Great customer service! The staff are very kind and helpful. The pastries are delicious and the barista makes an amazing coffee.

What a fantastic little Gem. Friends and I had lunch yesterday at beautiful Dunkeld under the branches of shady tree. I had the Beef and Ale pie which was served with a delicious chutney. It was absolutely delightful. We followed this with a cup of tea, served in a beautiful teapot/cup. Great atmosphere, and lovely food and service. It made for an enjoyable day.
V. G.
Beautiful restored cottage with delicious pies & quiches.. Staff are ever so friendly and they have homemade marmalades / jams for sale! Be sure to stop by as your passing through.
A. W.
Great coffee and selection of delicious bakery offerings. Picked up a wonderful loaf of fresh cooked sour dough as well. 👌

I am glad we made the detour to come here, lovely spot for lunch. Best club sandwich and the pie was delectable. Lovely and helpful wait staff, very much enjoyed lunch and will be returning if ever I'm passing through again.

How a country bakery should be - fancy and straight forward lovely food and coffee. The bread probably makes the best toasties you’ll ever have and sitting outside with a coffee in the morning is how to start any day the right way.
M. K.
Went to this cafe for a quick brekkie. Love the lovely and homey ambience!
D. K.
Quaint and precious. Only had time for a takeaway, but this place seems much loved by the locals.
K. L. C.
As frenchies we would recommend the croissants, very buttery! The baguette was amazing - a bit undercook to our taste. They do 'takeaway' style from 8-9am but you could probably comvince them to serve you on plates to avoid unnecessary waste if you sit down. A great find!
S. C.
Superlative, this bakery in the middle of nowhere on the way to mount gambier was a real restore for our souls! I reccomend it absolutely. It has gluten free options!
K. M.
Delicious food and coffee in the backstreets of Dunkeld, the Old Bakery is a busy place on a Sunday
F. M.
Delicious bread and pastries, and lovely staff - get in early for a croissant during the week, they're worth it!
L. W.
Delicious breads, pastries. Friendly service. Can highly recommend lovely old world accommodation,
J. R.
Pulled lamb pie with salad. Delicious! Coffee was perfect! Beautiful slices and cakes. Definitely fit this place in for a lunch stop.

This popular for a reason. Although a bit out of the way off the main Street, it's cosy, friendly with good coffee and food.
M. S.
Coffee scroll just blew us away. Just delicious.!!
Beautiful breakfast overall in a great town.
d. g.
Amazing food, both to dine in and takeaway and fantastic coffee
L. W.
Warm and wholesome service with quality coffee and pastries to back it up
R.
I love staying at this place despite unable to make much noise as the walls were hollow.
R. C.
A little gem. Delicious lunch with friends under the shady trees in front of this beautiful old bakery. Coffee was excellent and all our meals came out beautifully prepared and presented. Staff efficient and friendly - very relaxing. Took home a coffee scroll and l would return just to get another! Best l have ever eaten by far😋 One of life’s pleasant interludes. Thank you! 1️⃣

I would drive from Geelong just to LOOK at the pies, baked fresh on site daily. While we didn't get to eat any pies as they're out of the oven mid morning and we visited early, everything we ate was delicious, especially the toasted bacon and egg crossaint. A selection of locally made food products and artisinal sourdough and other breads that look A grade.
If you're in the area, lock this in, you wont be disappointed.
S. M.
Great Hot Coffee, good Breakfast menu
S. L.
Great service excellent meals & best coffee

We stopped in for breakfast when staying nearby (a few months ago now) and thoroughly enjoyed the food. Cool little bakery with a bit of history. Grabbed coffee there twice as well, it was very good. Definitely worth a visit if driving by.
L. P.
Brilliant, historical, gorgeous and awesome place with fantastic almond latte and cake selections served with a smile. So glad i read other reviews and detoured off the main road 30seconds. Well worth the effort. Stop, Rest, Relax and enjoy the peacefulness and read up on the bakery history. Look forward stopping for lunch next time we pass through ;-) A++
G. K.
Beautiful fresh pastries, great coffee and friendly staff- definitely worth a visit with if you're in Dunkeld. We ate in and the place has a lovely small-town vibe.
D. C.
Great pie worth the drive...
H. J.
We had a wonderful lunch at this little bakery. The soup was delicious as was the quiche my partner had. Family run, this place had a homely and inviting ambiance. It was just what we were looking for.
J. (.
Best meat pie ever.
Stopped there by chance, our kids weren't impressed with what was on offer, so I ordered a single meat pie for myself. Within 5 minutes all the kids wanted one. Bread was very nice too, including the baguette.
A. Y.
So nice we went there twice.
We had breakfast here one morning and came back for a croissant and pie the following day.
The beans from their Eggs and Purgatory were the best I've ever tasted.
The pies are also the best I've ever eaten in Australia! I miss the quality of NZ pies.
Coffee is good and they use Bonsoy for the dairy free.
T. S.
Good food and friendly service. The drinks left a little to be desired.
C.
Very good coffee and cake, awesome sourdough bread!
R. P.
I really like this cafe. It is small and chill! The atmosphere is so nice and you will have a feeling of country side. There tart is worth to try!!!!! With the mike shake also :P
J. D.
Amazing sausage rolls!!! Hidden from the main street. I and my husband have been driving pass dunkel 3 times a year for last 15 years and each time we stopped for a quick bite or coffee but never knew about this place. Seems like a well known cafe cuz it was very busy while we were there. Pies cakes and sausage rolls were very popular!
G. H.
Gorgeous little bakery with delicious pastries, bread and brekkie 😋😊
S. &. L. A.
Yum Yum Yum everything is well done & delicious. Authentic quality croissant were so buttery they were a meal in themselves.
M. P.
Thanks team for a wonderful lunch with family. The lamb pie was flavourful, and you know how to make a nice cappuccino. The staff were very nice. And, you have an option of sitting outside under the veranda or in the sun, as well as inside. Have a Merry Christmas.
J. L.
The food and service are excellent. Cozy, friendly and a lovely ambiance.
J. T.
Great coffee and fresh bread. Breakfast left a bit to be desired though. Overcooked poached eggs and undercooked bacon and a hair in the mushrooms.
P. M.
Dropped in on way to Halls Gap. Lovely lady made us delicious egg and bacon sandwich and fresh coffee. Loved the animals outside wandering about. Would definitely recommend.
W. S.
Great coffee and weekly pie specials! Always come past when we're in Dunkeld over Easter and is a lovely quaint spot with a nice view of Mt Sturgeon in the background. Would recommend to anyone coming through this part of Victoria!
G. S.
Good country bakery and pleasant setting but dont tell anyone as it is well patronised by locals and not to be shared!!
Y. Y.
Nice warm place for a cup of tea and some pies/quiche/muffins. Smelled heavenly too!

D. M.
Friendly service, cosy environment . Great coffee delicious selection of cakes and bakery items.
D. M.
Pulled Lamb pie was easily one of the best gourmet pies I've ever had. Generously filled with a succulent lamb stew, lots of meat and absolutely delicious. Worth the drive all the way from Melbourne.
C. P.
Service is tip top! Initially, we ask for takeout and the staff had already packed our orders. When we change our mind to dine at the restaurant, the staff told us that normally, we have to pay extra for dining in but since the food was already packed, he allowed us to have our lunch at the tables outside with no extra charges. Food is delicious and coffee is great!
E. T.
A little old place. The bakery onsite was quite delicious too. Baked in the morning. When I got here in the afternoon they were mostly gone. Also nice and friendly atmosphere too.
S. L.
Arrived on a Monday morning & unfortunately not a lot of pies available. Husband had a beef burgundy pie which obviously home made. Absolutely beautiful. I had a piece of German Apple cake which was delicious too.
T.
