A brilliant sneaky laneway cafe that Melbourne is famous for, serving plenty of generous all day breakfast options, quick lunch, full bar and excellent coffee by perfect attentive & obliging staff. You have to be happy with 4 styles of Eggs Benedict.

What a find! I love the alleyways of our amazing city when they have delightfully cozy and tasty cafe's. From the moment we arrived all wait staff were polite and attentive. When we quizzed about the kids menu with one of the waiters, he checked with who I assume is the owner or manager, who came over and spent time making sure my daughter could order practically whatever she wanted. Now THAT'S service :) The meals were very delicious and although I thought my pulled beef sandwich was a little too salty, my wife who tried it was adamant it was great. The only criticism I had was that the food took a very long time to arrive considering the place wasn't full. I was going to rate Gordon's 4 stars because of this, however the honesty, genuine apology and explanation from the manager/owner made me feel comfortable that this was not the norm. Now as a final note, I really wish Google come up with a way that doesn't allow idiots to post 1 star reviews because of stupid reasons. I'm talking to the douche complaining that the cafe asked for something valuable to be left behind because they had forgotten their wallet and couldn't pay their bill. Seriously? You should have offered that rather than be upset your incompetence put the business in an awkward situation. Rant over :)

There's nothing better than walking thru Melbourne's city streets and stumbling upon a pearl of an eatery. That's what happened when hubby and I were heading down Bourke Street last Sunday morning. Seeking nourishment and caffeine after a night out, we looked left, down a long, dark, 'secret tunnel-like' laneway and were immediate attracted to the mystical festoon lights. Next, as if by magic, we saw an a-frame sign, beckoning us to Gordon's Cafe & Bar for breakfast. We weren't disappointed! Dining in the laneway, the dark, cool, quirky vibe was backed up by fun, happy and enthusiastic wait staff. Providing fast, friendly service with a smile - nothing was too much trouble! The amazing coffees were backed up with even more amazing food. So if you're in Melbourne city, looking for a chilled breakfast, it's worth seeking this cafe out... not just a meal but a an experience.

CASUAL EATERY IN TRENDY CITY LANEWAY Gordon's Cafe and Bar is located in the laneway off Little Collins St. Indoor and al fresco seating. Sitting outside puts you right in the middle of the lane and the passing parade of people which adds a bit of colour and energy to the experience. Service is fast and friendly and the menu has a decent range to suit a variety of tastes and preferences. People with mobility issues will be fine as the outdoor seating is al at ground (footpath) level.

Cute little coffee & jaffle vendor tucked away in the laneway. The mushroom, spinach & mozzarella jaffle was nice, and they have all kinds of milk for your coffee if that’s what you look for! I had macadamia milk with my latte. Mostly 2-seater tables.

Stumbled upon this gem wandering around the CBD, was in the mood for some Italian and this place delivered in spades,! Had the lasagne which was excellent and the chicken Pesto pizza which was off the charts good, best pizza I had outside of Italy. You could just taste it's all made from beautifully fresh home made from high quality ingredients. Coffee also excellent. Not overly flashy or pretentious, just great quality, highly recommend.

Went for breakfast. Coffee was AMAZING!! Breakfast food was delicious. We had the eggs Florentine and house deluxe scrambled eggs. The kids shared the raisin toast (which was too big for our 1 and 4 year old) Scrambled eggs were a little bland and needed a bit of salt and pepper to spice them up but the Florentine was delicious! Staff were friendly and service was super fast. The kids did not have to wait long for their food...bonus! The fresh pressed orange juice was amazing and the kids enjoyed it too.

Fantastic cafe with great food and great service. I used to come here for breakfast every Saturday during the early 2000’s when I lived in Melbourne. We happened upon it searching for breakfast this morning and found it was still fantastic. All of our meals were excellent and the coffee was great. Highly recommended!

After eating at every cafe in this lane, Gordon's was hands down the best. The food arrived very quickly, the lemon lime bitters was spot on and the food was tasty. The server and staff was friendly and very helpful in accommodating a food allergy. I would certainly visit again.

It is tucked away down Little Collins street. We were seated immediately during lunch. The drinks came quickly. I had a fantastic, strong, long black. Lunch was a prawn and bacon quesadilla, which I highly recommend. This is a real gem in Melbourne's cafe scene. Check it out!

Nice food but average service. Asked for extra price of toast to have with my breakfast (only got 1 very small piece). Gave up after 15 mins, meal getting cold. The place is nice and friendly. And I've been looking for clam chouder since I visited California. Gordon's version is not exactly creamy as in California, it is more like an old famous Australian pumpkin soup with some seafood to pay homage to the original, but it was very tasty, well served and quite warming. Wouldn't mind it again hoping the resemblance next time will be greater or it changes name to pumchouder.
