Comments of Milkwood
A. K.
Another great Modern Australian brunch place, Milkwood had a nice ‘home’ feel to it. The (typical brunch) meals were delicious, the coffee was good, the service was friendly. The food and drink selections were decent as well. We had their banana cinnamon toast and eggs kerjiwal - and they were both really good! Highly recommend.
L. W.
Just amazing food and staff xxx highly recommend!
O. T.
Great service, good food and coffee. Went for take away during lockdown 5.0 and staff was very friendly, opened the door for me because I was holding 2 coffees and a ham chesse croissant.
B. H.
Had the Rhubarb pancakes. Fantastic! Loved it. Sweet venue that doesn't get too loud when full.
The honey comb was a little over done but otherwise I was very satisfied by the food and coffee! Staff are a little slow to service the table.
Breakfast foods and bagels all day.
S.
Went here on the long weekend and had a great brunch. We came with a pram and three dogs and they were super accomdating moving two tables together outside. My food was lovely (mushrooms) plus I got a generous side of bacon! The service (drinks order) was pretty slow considering we had a double espresso and flat white, but would still recommend if you aren't in a rush!
I.
Cozy front converted shop front café, more spacious in the rear, accessible via a side entrance. Good coffee and food, parking a bit tricky and on a busy intersection, close to a tram stop. Pretty friendly staff. I like it.
K. T.
Delishious coffee and wonderful food.
G. R.
Unbelievable pulled pork baguette 😍 great value. Amazing thank you
S. Y.
Coffee was good. We had the take away Cappuccino. My husband said it was good (he is very fussy with his coffee). Nice and easy to find cafe with open air or in-door area.
I.
Quite satisfied with my coffee during my ride and hope to stop by one day for a bite to eat.
I hope to sit at the fantastic timber slab of able.
A. Y.
Nice place with delicious food. I am the regular customer for about four years already. After COVID the conditions of the prices changed- be ready for the weekend surcharge.
N.
Delicious food and chilled out atmosphere. Friendly service. Gluten free options available.
L. L.
Nice ambiance, delicious brunches and good but slow service.
K.
Good coffee and food. Staff are friendly. Only thing I'll add is they definitely need to hire more staff. Everytime I've been here it has been a 30-45min wait for food.
N. C.
Great coffee. I'm not sure about the food. But the coffee is really good. The cost is typical of Melbourne, the price of a coffee is neither cheap, nor expensive. It is situated in a fairly east to find spot but with little parking. Close to a tram stop. There's not much eating space outside of the Cafe, for a covidvisit.

Does food taste better if you know staff are being paid properly? Not sure, but it is nice to know that (at least from what I've been told) the people that make this place run are not getting wages stolen under new management.
On to the food: I had a nice breakfast with salmon and other bits and bobs. More interesting than the run-of-the-mill breakfasts and delicious. Great selection of kombucha (hey, it's Brunswick) and my partner said her coffee was great. Laid back environment and friendly staff. Great place for breakfast on a weekend.
A. C.
Great staff! The Monte Carlo cookie was so good. Everyone should definitely get a marshmallow with hot chocolate. Thanks guys! 👍🏽
T. T.
Thank you for whipping up an amazing plant-based baguette for me! The flavours were so amazing and well-balanced and it may be the tastiest thing I've eaten in months. :) I'll be back every Sunday!
C. F.
Great coffee and treats. I’ve only ever ordered the kale sandwich with bacon - because it’s perfect! There’s no need to try anything else. Super delicious.
K. T.
Open range scrambies, chorizo and avo on sour dough and kasoundi 🤤🤤🤤
A. P.
Food took a really long time (one hour?). And our coffees about 25 minutes. Proportions were decent and the food was fine, nothing special. Service staff were nice but took a while to give us menus and water, then had to double back again for cutlery once we got our food. Probably won’t return as there are so many good options in the area, but still had an okay time.
E. F.
My local go-to coffee spot. Consistently good coffee and friendly staff.
However, The take-away menu is overpriced - and food is hit and miss. Since management changed, sweet treats have gone down hill, some days fresh, others not.
N. R.
Delicious food, beautiful space and lovely service. This place is delightful. Coffee was perfect and I've been dreaming about the pea and mint smash ever since. So damn good.
H. B.
Milkwood has been keeping me sane during iso! I went through an intense phase of getting their caramel slice almost every day, now I've been getting their carrot cake which is huge and so so delicious. The icing is incredible and has walnuts on top 🤤 the service is always great and I can vouch for their soy caps, cows milk caps, long blacks and dirty chai's! Everyone is respectable of personal space when ordering and when waiting outside. I moved to the area right on Melb's first lockdown so I haven't had the chance to dine in yet, but I'm so excited for when we can!
C. M.
Delicious food and great coffee. I've been going almost every weekend for 2 years and when I started going the coffee was hit and miss (sometimes bitter), but it's now consistently delicious. The food is always awesome. Gets very busy on weekends, but the service is always as quick as possible.
N. R.
The food is tasty despite lacking the full flavour you come to expect from a Melbourne brunch cafe. Coffee is great and the shakes are amazing. Lovely staff and very hip venue, especially if you're in the front area. Gets a bit lonely round back.
B. D.
Best poached chicken focaccia.
T. S.
Still the ol faithful even thru tuff times of Covid & semi normal out of lockdown phase.
Smoothies r nourishing & refreshing with blends of berries & banana- always a satisfying treat.
Toasties & salads r a nice blend of tastes & flavours but can't wait to b able to spend an afternoon of inside dining & dreaming of normality once more.
B. C.
If you like giant lamingtons as big as your face, this is the place to go.
Some OK sandwich/baguette options although a little pricey. The coffee is good but can take a while sometimes when it’s busy. Not the cafes fault, it’s small and they focus more on consistent output.
A lot of tram drivers pop in here for some java during their breaks.
Staff are bubbly and friendly enough without being too obtrusive.
V.
Had a great Cappuccino and Porridge today. Very friendly staffs and great atmosphere.
L. A.
Lovely place with relaxing atmosphere and friendly staff. I tried the ricotta pancakes and I won't do them justice if I simply try to describe how phenomenal they are. Go and try them yourselves. My friends said that the poached eggs were also delicious and one of them wouldn't stop praising the parmesan and mint toast. Obviously everyone can find something to suit their taste here.
L. V. S.
Friendly staff and great coffee
L. B.
Delicious coffee (they won't accept KeepCups during lockdown) and array of pastries and fresh muffins.
H.
Very lovely aesthetic, nice coffee, decent menu.

Look, all over it's a nice place. Good coffee, clean decor and proficient staff. What makes this place five stars is that god damn chorizo baguette that always gets me back. That chewy crunchy baguette with tangy chorizo, goats cheese, avocado and a mysterious and inimitable relish. I froth this sandwich. I haven't ordered anything else since I tried it. They could charge whatever they like and i'd save up for this bloody sandwich. I don't care if you are vegetarian, dairy free or celiac; you need to try this sandwich.
A. C.
Good coffee, lovely food. Scrambled eggs and mushrooms were delicious, as was the pear and maple walnut salad my sister had. I ended up pinching about a third of it from her it was that good!
A. M.
Food was ok, coffee was great, but the service seems to be getting more sketchy. Each time I visit it seems to take longer for our order to be taken and for the food to arrive. (One worries that they may be being sucked into a deep gravitational well, and soon be beyond the event horizon.)
E. L.
I came here for lunch with my wife. Compared to the weekend it wasn't too hard to get a table. They have some very interesting foods. Their picked vegetable baguet was unusual, but good. And the eggs Kerjiwal (don't know how to spell it) were amazing.
E. L.
One of my faves. Great coffee & chai. They use well paired but simple ingredients to put forward delicious meals. I enjoy ordering from the specials menu :)
Y. B.
The service was friendly if a little slow, and the coffee was not quite as good as one would expect from this sort of place. On the other hand, my mushroom and cheese toastie was excellent. Then I tried my wife's ricotta pancakes.
Mind. Blown.
Come for the pancakes. Nothing else matters after that.
a. b.
Beautiful space, friendly staff
C. N. T. H.
Great coffee and the staffs are so friendly. Lovely space 😊
C. M.
My girlfriend said it's one of the best coffees she's ever had and I was there too and it was also really really good. Check it out!
W. H.
From the outside you could almost miss Milkwood but if you do you are robbing your taste-buds of a lot of pleasure. I dropped in today and sampled their Butterscotch, Pear and Walnut Muffin and the only reason I did not have a second one or more was time. Highly recommend this little gem.
S. S.
Just try the home made Monte Carlo's you will not be disappointed. The jam is so flavoursome.
C. F.
Love this little cafe. Delicious coffee. Helpful, friendly staff. The pea and broadbean smash with poached eggs, or the white bean smash with avocado are both standouts.
D. D.
Oh, the food is so goood. :) Very happy with the food. I still reminisce about the vegetarian yummy quiche I had there early last year. Goodness. Best quiche I have ever eaten. Please bring it back. :)
E. C.
Nice local cafe. I can say I am quite the often visitor here. The breakfast options are great and always fresh. I simply can't resist to stop and grab a bite on weekend mornings.
G. B.
A wee bit noisy out the back, sound really bounces. Excellent coffee and fabulous service!
R. G.
Great ambience. Beautiful coffee. Great and helpful staff.
J. T.
Yes, it's hip and the service is worth going in to get because the take-away isn't great. Let customers put their dressing on or ask them how they like it. The bougette was unedable.
A. B.
Scandinavian inspired favourite of the RRR crew from across the road, with simple pale wood and white set up and a predominantly vegetarian menu. A delicious chorizo panini mainstay and a couple of other rotating carne optiom rounds it out for the meateaters.
A. S.
Place often smells a bit weird due to the cooking that happens FOH, but that aside, coffee is great and food looks delicious although I've not eaten there yet.
A. L.
Excellent coffee. Go up the small lane on the south side to access the back room and small courtyard.
C. C.
Since they changed management, service is slower. Partialy new menu, still tasty food, however they removed some of the popular dishes...like the Mumbai style eggs 😕
N. B.
Great coffee and breakfast. It is always crowded, but worth it. They do yummy baguettes for take away as well.
E. S.
Great coffee and breakfast. I had poached eggs with mushrooms and bacon. Friendly staff and reasonably quick service.
N. M.
Really friendly waiter who accommodated us despite prams, small children etc. Did not rush us out after eating and made us feel very welcome.
c. g.
Simple honest food, some vegan and vego options, okay coffee, seems to have lost a little of its previous mojo and quality, patchy service,
Rear room is a restful space to sit in.
I. H.
Staff are amazingly lovely and all the food is excellent. My fav is the pickled vegetable baguette. Hubba hubba. Lots of options... coffee great as well!
S. M.
This is my go to place for breakfast and coffee. The staff are really friendly, the coffee is great and the food is always satisfying.
M. N.
Really tasty poached eggs and toast, the perfect breakfast for me. The staff were also very friendly and showed interest in the customers, which is a rare thing this days.
A. M.
Great for the kids. Great people. Coffee amazing and I'm fussy. Big room out the back for laptop work. Recommend
S. D.
Great coffee, service & vegan slice! Would love to see them move to only recyclable packaging.
J. M.
Great food and coffee. The depending on the chefs/cooks at the time can be hit and miss, but more often than not, it's great.
B. N.
Cute little cafe. Coffee is ok, but not the best I've had.
J. B.
Great little coffee stop, I like to drop in here before visiting Infinity Jeans opposite, a recommended for lovers of fine Aussie made jeans.
A. S.
Love that they have Toby's Estate coffee! Perfect spot for a little coffee break while working from home :)
K. t.
Had great coffee everyday on my visit to Northcote 🤩
B. Y.
Surprisingly not as high on the 'pretentious hipster' scale as I would expect from the best Cafe in Brunswick East. Lovely food, staff and coffee.
M. B.
Excellent coffee, great service
