Had been planning to pay Visit here ever since we move to South Yarra because of the ambience and decor which we appreciated from the outside during the lockdown and we finally did a few days ago. Apart from forgetting my Iced mocha which was compensated with free bakes, The service was good and portions of food were generous and delicious.
I had ordered the roasted mushrooms and my partner had the scrambled eggs. The roasted mushrooms were definitely the highlight!
J. S.
We are regulars at their Melbourne Central branch, but we wanted to try their South Yarra location this time. We had to wait for around 15 min till a table became available.
They have a different menu, so we ordered the following:
- Chilli Scrambled Eggs (Spring onion, coriander, manchego cheese, bacon, pickled chilli + pumpkin toast).
- Avocado On Toast (Chard corn, herb salad, Mexican furikake, lime labneh, grilled halloumi + seedy sourdough).
Both dishes were just as we expected, if not better than what we had at their MC branch!
Rustica never disappoints me when it comes to breakfast options. Excellent service, with great food & coffee.

Always very good 😊 make me happy with coffee and breakfast
So so good
If you want to eat brunch, any menu will be successful.

The fried chicken and the crispy fish sandwich delights checked out. The chicken guy was delightfully tasty with a dash of cheese, pickles and a full mayo. The fish compadre had deliciously crispy batter and a tastefully tart tartare. There were some epic donuts being constructed in the kitchen but they'll need to wait for another time. Not cheap sangers but certainly worthy of a splash out lunch!

Great spot for brunch - the lamb mince sat on top of massive serving of delicious hummus with 2 poached eggs. Their olive bread was delicious.
Also had the mushroom which is superb!
Good portions along with a drink!

I worked here for half a year so spent a lot of time here. The large cafe features a huge bakery aswell as pastry kitchen. This creates a great atmosphere that is energizing. The owner is a great guy and many of the staff are genuinely passionate about creating the best products possible. It shows in the food, which is of very high quality. All of the bread and pastries used in the cafe are made onsite unlike most other places meaning the food served here is just going to be better.

Another beautiful breakfast at Rustica. It never fails to impress me. The delicious scrambled chili eggs and crab along with the prawn and lobster hollandaise with beautifully poached eggs. Just yum yum and yum.... so spectacular 💙
And don’t miss on their rich coffee, it’s a must try
j.
Beautifully designed large and airy cafe on Chapel St
Lots of places to sit inside and outdoors. I especially like the big round tables with the couch seating. It is the type of cafe you can spend an afternoon in.
The food choices on the breakfast menu are exciting which makes it hard to decide! I decided to go with an avocado and halloumi bagel from the glass cabinet, which was so delicious. I had a side of oat milk matcha which was very strong and thick. Looking forward to returning and trying more menu items.

Out of all the Rustica’s around town this is my favourite maybe because it’s the biggest and latest with an open warehouse feel still the same great service and food but it’s at the trendy end of Chapel st, South Yarra opposite the jam factory. Great brunch spot with great coffee & food! Breads are to die for!
K.
Situated in Prahran, this place is one of the cool places to go for brunch. Its got a lot of seating and the menu has a lot of choices. I like the king prawn linguine a lot which packs a nice flavor. My wife tried the mushroom poached eggs which was also nice. Portion is the only down side its on the smaller side but compensated by good food. However, with the good food and fantastic coffee I'm pretty happy with the experience. They have matcha latte here so definitely a tick for me.
K. P.
Very dissent food and good portion size. Lobster roll was smothered with butter which was not to my liking. We had to queue to get a table but only because empty tables were dirty and it took a while for stuff to clean them up. In general it’s a very nice place for brunch but doesn’t seem to be run smoothly. Stuff were friendly.
M. T.
Were pretty disappointed with their iced latte - they probably added the ice in too early and there was a layer of residue on the top of our coffee which we didn’t appreciate.
The crab scrambled egg on toast was alright, though definitely on the pricey end. Perhaps try something else on their menu if you visit them next time?
M.
Really enjoyed our brunch at Rustica. Both dishes were full of flavour and absolutely delicious. I’d probably go as far as saying this was the best smashed avo I’ve had. The tomatoes were juicy and sweet, the avo fresh and creamy... I could eat this everyday for the rest of my life and I’ll be a very happy foodie. So happy they’ve opened their doors down the road from us 👏 we’ll be back!
C. L.
My friend is a regular here and ever since he brought me here, I love it! Food is awesome and the customer service is great!
T. S.
Awesome professional & friendly staff. Very refreshing standards of service, food and a beautiful coffee and dining experience
Down from Queensland - we wish we had one there!
c. m.
It’s hard to go wrong with a chilli scrambled eggs but it still happens more often than I’d like.
Not here though! These are up there with the best! (I went sans bacon F.Y.I) No complaints about the coffee either.

I only have positive things to say about the new Rustica on Chapel Street, which is my favourite of all the outlets. The space is gorgeous and the menu is refined, especially compared to the other locations. I tried the absolutely delicious Vegemite butter pastry topped with avocado and served with salad. It's a standout dish, not just because Rustica makes great pastries but because the flavour and texture combos work wonderfully. I also tried the baba ghannoush which is also nice, although not as heavy on the haloumi as I'd hoped. It's a very light dish, so I recommend a side of toast. I tried vouch for the coffee as well - I tried two over the course of my meal. You can't leave Rustica without trying a dessert, so I sampled two. The blueberry Danish is simple and not too sweet and, as the cafe's name suggests, a blend of rustic and contemporary in its execution. Meanwhile, the caramel and chocolate and nuts biscuit is smaller but richer - the perfect way to end a meal.
s. s.
Nice food and ambience, quick service, plenty of sitting arrangement
J. D.
Brilliant food and service, topped only by the friendly, hard-working, and amazing staff at the cafe. Couldn't recommend the experience more highly!
L. M.
Dined there recently with my husband. Staff were friendly and the venue was very appealing but the best aspect by far was the food!!! Absolutely delicious. I loved being able to see the chefs prepare and the vibe of the kitchen was that it was one smooth, high quality operation! Credit to chef and his team! Highly recommend.

Rustica, well known for its sourdough, baked goods and fresh menu has come to South Yarra. Big open white space with a large glass walled bakery kitchen and a separate chefs kitchen. Beautiful long glass counter at the back displaying all the delicious baked goods, fresh sandwiches and breads. You can pop in for a quick takeaway coffee and food, or sit down and enjoy the menu.
Note it does get very noisy when full of hungry diners and does charge 10% surcharge on weekends and 20% on public holiday.
E. B.
Beautiful layout , huge generous portion and very clean tasted. But I found out bit pricey $32 for breakfast maybe won’t have it for everyday . Coffee bit weak, staff were friendly but not really attended to all the customers but you still be able to get there attention.
D. L.
I have been to Rustico a few times since it has opened here a few months ago on Chapel Street. It was great to see they have made improvements since they opened first. The portion sizes were quite small on my initial visit and I am glad to say this is not the case anymore. In fact the opposite can be said, they now have very generous portions. The service has also improved since my first visit - which was the first weekend of opening so I could imagine there would be some teething problems. The presentation is lovely and the food itself is delicious and fresh. The staff are friendly and service has been quick whenever we have visited, even where there has been queues to get in. I have had the lobster eggs Benedict which is a treat yourself dish, the brioche bun is melt in your mouth. The miso glazed cauliflower is huge and great in texture with the crushed nuts incorporated in the salad - yum! A really good spot for brunch if you don’t mind the hustle and bustle of the weeeknd, it’s really spacious in there and the bakery at the back adds a nice touch to the whole feel of the place.
A. R.
Ordered the Buttermilk Fried Chicken Burger and I have absolutely no regrets - the chips are so perfectly done and I cannot get over that mayonnaise sauce let alone the friend chicken. SO GOOD!
A. S.
We were a big group of 22 people, the staff were friendly, we pre-ordered the brunch and they were very prompt with very little waiting.
The best part was that they gave some amazing bread to take away 😄
M. C.
The food was great, I would definitely go back for it. Sitting inside was a bit noisy and hectic, that's why I'm giving 4 instead of 5 stars.
B. B.
Ok I do eat out allot but this place takes the winning cake for food quality friendly service and cool place to hang. I added a picture of what I had for breakfast it was delish.
Defiantly recommend and defiantly coming back.
x. z.
Lobster and Prawns Benedict is huge generous portion and tasty.Coffee bit weak, staff were friendly.
B. k.
Nice vibe and lovely meal with freshness.
Aromatic coffee and tasty juice as well.
Love this place.
M. M.
Nice place for brunch. Friendly and responsive staff. Good food, served in a timely manner. Very open location so it was quite noisy (both from music and people).
J. “. M. D.
Great open space, large and small tables. Great coffee and the heavenly aroma of the bakery out the back, Delicious!!!
Great service and reasonable prices. Will be back
L. S.
Delicious food, great atmosphere and very nice staff. The serving sizes were generous and everything tasted really good.
J.
Delicious brunch food, good servicing size, good price, and although it was super busy, the male manager with blonde hair (sorry don't know his name) somehow found us a spot. Service was speedy despite how busy and the wait for food was short. Highly recommend. Vegan options available.
I had the avacado dish with scrambled eggs 😁🥰
M. S.
Awesome food, great service, proper tasty bloody Mary. Food was also really yummy.
Having worked many brunch places in my time Rustica is now highly regarded in my book. Chilli scrambled eggs on their pumpkin bread = super delicious. Thanks again guys for a wonderful brunch.
K. L.
Got a takeaway coffee. It was quite bitter and the prices were above your average coffee. $5.20 for a large, which was equivalent to a medium in other places.
t. d.
Best meal ever, crispy as salmon Din and juiciest beef rib. Loved the service and the food. I'll be back in no time
N. O.
The food was really tasty and quick service. Good coffee!

We'd heard great things about Rustica and finally popped down to their new South Yarra location to try it for ourselves.
The atmosphere was energetic with quite a large floor space and loads of different seating options - they were very busy but we didn't have to wait for a table.
Menu is really interesting, with loads of dishes I hadn't tried before. We had the Lobster and prawn benny served in a sweet hot-dog style bun. We were pleasantly surprised at how much seafood was in the serving!
I had the smoked mushrooms on sourdough which came with two poached eggs. Just loved the smoked flavour and both dishes were really big portions.
Service was decent and the coffee was great. They also have a nice selection of freshly baked loafs and cakes to take home with you.
The only downside was that it is quite noisy inside with so many hard surfaces. Also there were a number of small children running wild inside and getting under the feet of staff and other patrons, although this isn't the fault of the cafe!
We'll definitely be back soon
D. S.
10/10. Seriously this was the best mushrooms and eggs on toast ever. There was love is every component. My new fave.
R. W.
So glad Rustica has opened up in South Yarra! Great service, gorgeous interior, amazing menu! Definitely will be back to work myself through the rest of the menu 🤤
J. M.
Lovely coffee and croissant, little more direction from staff would be appreciated.
C. T.
Had been to Rustica in the CBD a few times and had coffee at South Yarra prior to finally trying brunch. It’s tasty and decently portioned for a good price! The service was a bit off on my visit and I was disappointed the menu hadn’t been updated to reflect the new smoked salmon instead of crispy skin salmon which I thought I was getting with the breakfast salad. The team were prompt in taking the additional cost of the salmon off my breakfast which was really appreciated. Otherwise a great visit!
M. P.
Was great. Food was amazing. Service a little slow. Awesome variety.
S. O.
My wife & I went for lunch here on Sat 19th December. We ordered the Linguini and roasted mushroom meals. The meals were absolutely delicious and it was obvious that the chef who made them had a thorough understanding of food as the flavours were fantastic and balanced. Well worth the wait :)
T. S.
The decor, staff, serving sizes and quality are all good. You get the impression that this cafe is run to a standard and won't slip. The cakes look to be of high quality and of course the bread is good. My only disappointment is when they offer a vegan option to a vegetarian dish and the way they veganise it is to remove the vegetarian items. A number of restaurants replace with vegan items...for instance, you could replace the haloumi with a vegan feta or the lime labne with a lime coconut yoghurt. I appreciate the attention to detail and care when restaurants do this. It shows that they are really on the ball and it is appreciated. If items are just removed, then I will just avoid that dish. I would appreciate a vegan smashed avocado with replacement items, as the other vegan options don't excite me.
M. I.
UPDATE:
Unfortunately Rustica no longer make their delicious savoury muffins. PLEASE put them back on the menu and let me KNOW as it's no longer worth me making the trip 🤔
ORIGINAL REVIEW:
You can tell this place cares about the quality of its food.
I had a coffee and a savoury muffin today. The egg/zucchini/cheese muffin was AMAZING.
I'll be back soon.
J. T.
Local cafe on Chapel St. Service was slow considering there were not many people in the cafe. Chai latte was cold on arrival.
Smashed avocado and scrambled eggs was delicious though. A little on the expensive side compared to other cafes around.
A.
Literally, the best breakfast in Melbourne. Try Baba ghanoush, Avocado in toast and Smoked mushroom.
I. I.
Was staying at the Como hotel for 2 nights and this was our fav brunch spot for two days, we love the menu and Tom is a very friendly, attentive and generous guy. Me and wife loves this place, highly recommend.
T. C.
Service was fantastic and the breakfast menu was so good I had trouble choosing! When my meal arrived I was not disappointed. Best brunch I've had in Melbourne! Had to take home a Brownie and a seriously tasty, wholesome, loaf of artisan bread. Highly recommended!
J. S.
Beautiful brunch! I had the pork belly Benedict and my partner had the smoked mushroom dish and they were both to die for!!
M. B.
We had the avacado on toast and lobster and prawn benedict. Both were excellent especially the bread parts of each. Would recommend. Prices are reasonable considering the area and portions were generous. The staff was especially friendly and help as well.
G. F.
Great meal n service today from the Rustica Sourdough 😁👌👍
T. L.
Great coffee, enjoyed my take away piccolo on the benches down the quieter side street. Very tasty, full flavoured coffee. Very busy place for Saturday morning so it is popular, food looks very good, will have to come back to have breakfast or lunch. Nice atmosphere, friendly staff.
E. M.
Great service, the staff went above and beyond to create an exceptional dining experience. Food and coffee were delicious, and very reasonably priced for such generous portions. Will definitely be returning
J. W.
Came into get a coffee and a bacon and egg roll, unfortunately I has just missed the last one but to my lovely surprise I got given a free doughnut which was very kind and made my day.
T.
Called in here for some brunch. The service was ok.
My strong skinny latte was good, and my plain croissant tasty.
This just a BiG cafe bright cafe w lots of seating in a warehouse style setting selling fresh bread to take away. There is also limited outdoor seating on Chapel St, which is handy for people watching lol.
S. M.
Yummy place. Coffee tad milky. Open steak sandwich was delish u get alot too! Worth it
S. F.
Great lunch with the girls first time. Great service great food well priced will go again and recommend to others Suzie Farrell James Paynter Real Estate Brighton 👍👍
B. M.
Great food and bread, tbh only downside being the occasional long lines and wait
T. P.
Had toasted sandwiches and coffee. Pretty darn good. Well done all. Lovely spot to drop in.
Even the pigeon said g'day.
T. D.
I’m really shocked at some of the negative reviews! I went there yesterday for breakfast, and the service was amazing!
Our food came out really quick, which was delicious and the coffee was good also.
And the layout of the place is stunning!!
S. Q.
Buzzy place, great menu and food, lovely staff but the main memory I’ll take away was ordering a large long black and getting a normal sized coffee but in a large cup. The waitress was lovely so I didn’t raise it but seriously?
J. e.
I give the smashed avo 5 stars - the semi roast tomatoes taste like actual pizza sauce. A well balanced and thought-out dish.
Massive open space. Friendly staff. Clean and good vibes.
m. r.
Great service, their sourdough is really tasty and fresh. Amazing breakfast and the menu has many delicious options.
A. H.
Food is nice, but waiter/waitress needs more training. Please ask before taking the plates away, and don’t touch the food with bare hands. However the lobster and croissant are not bad.
K. D. C.
Went on a Saturday mid morning for a catch up with a friend, honestly it felt like a bar! The music was so loud, the people were even louder. My friend and I sat across from each other and I could hardly hear her. As much as the food looked beautiful, we left and went somewhere quieter where we could actually hear each other
H. i.
Bright open space, and a huge open kitchen where you can see the bakers diligently baking the bread and pastries that Rustica is so famous for, you know you are in for a treat here. The most recent outpost of Rustica does not steer far away from its tried and taste formula, and it doesn’t have to. Delicious food, amazing pastries, and wonderful coffees. That’s all that matters.
The vegemite pastry which name I can’t recall, came accompanied by avocado, resulting in an immensely savoury and buttery flavour. The nuts added an element of crunch, with balanced out the creaminess of the vegemite butter and avocado, and the soft flakiness of the pastry. The eggplant dish which name I can’t recall as well, was a hearty and flavourful dish, showcasing fresh ingredients and the most delicious sourdough. I couldn’t go past the cronut, and today’s selection was a pina colada cronut. The tartness and zing from the pineapple made this a great summery treat. Excellent crust as expected as well.
A point of difference from the other branches is that they are open at night too, so it will be handy to get my coffee and pastries fix any time of the day.
Y. W.
Nice roomy place for brunch or coffee.
The portion for serve was big n decent.
Pity they don't do dinner.
M. K.
The vibe is great , creme brulee donut is off the charts but breakfast food lacked so much flavour. Had to alot of salt and even then it was plain which is unfortunate because the presentation was nice.
J. P.
This place has the best pastries and service. The team here are friendly and professional. Moving into the area we are glad to have found a new home to make our local. Thanks Rustica
R. S.
The place looks very stylish and the music playing inside was awesome.Poached eggs were perfect and the bread was fantastic. The only downside was the bacon that was cold and rubbery.I will be back anyway :)
ト.
Last time went to the Melbourne central branch was better. Had the same menu, but the lobster and prawn beny was 98% prawn 2% lobster, Melbourne central is half half tho
W. N.
Beautiful coffee & tea as out for the afternoon and then given a free multi grain sourdough loaf, life couldn't be better!
M. J.
Absolutely amazing food and service! Will be back!
L. F.
Only ordered a skinny flat white at midday on a Sunday, and my experience was: waited 5mins for order to be taken/someone to pay attention, repeated my order incorrectly and took a while to deliver. Probably too busy for good service!
P. W.
This is one of my favourite cafes! The coffee is amazing, the bread and pastries are sensational and the staff are beautiful!
H. L.
Great atmosphere! Bakery and coffee shops within as well as restaurant. The food is great!
T. D. F.
Delicious food, tasty bread, very airy and light place , didn't wait long for either food or to get a table, even if pretty busy food came fast
C. s.
Superb pastries and really good coffee accompanied with good, genuine service. Well deserved 5 stars ⭐️ I’ll be back soon
A. I.
I tried Rustica in Hawthron few times and it is great. I then decided to try the one in South Yarra. I have to say I was really disappointed. The food wasn’t great. The service was ok and the coffee good but that’s not a experience that makes me wanna go back...
T. S. M.
Me and the boys had a grouse feed today, probably the most grouse feed I’ve had in Melbourne, the shiela with red hair really went above and beyond to ensure me and the Boys were well fed before an afternoon of ‘slapping the bass’. Ha ha
K. F.
Lobster benedict and crispy salmon were okay, the food were served surprisingly quick.
Quite noisy
A. W.
Slow / chaotic service staff, food was just okay, bit overpriced.. location is great but not worth returning unfortunately.
S. G. W.
This place is a gem! Perfect outdoor area, coffee and a variety of pastries. We will be back.
P. B.
Lovely brunch today. Chilli Scrambled eggs the winner. Nice coffee and purchased sourdough to go
B. B. M.
Props to these guys during our last lockdown! Scored a free loaf of sourdough on the weekend 🙌🏻 delicious coffee too 💥

This place ain’t no joke
Á. A.
Great place, food was delicious. I felt like home and the coffee worked as intented as I had to do a number 2.
A.
Their coffee is good, but their croissants are out of this world. Can see them being made daily in their bakery section.
J. G.
one of my favourites in the area , consistently amazing coffee
S. S.
All Yum. The staff is really professional and it looks like they know what they do. Lovely space.
H. J.
Love their mothers day cake.

Great coffee, great ambiance and great service. Food was 8/10. Everything else was 10/10.

M. M.
Delicious food! Lovely staff! But I did see the guy who was working at the till, grab a loaf of bread with his bare hands and chuck it in a bag for a customer. Then wipe a plate on his T-shirt, throw a croissant on there and give it to another customer. Probably not the best habits to have in times of covid.
