Comments of Ten Square Cafe

Visited over the long Christmas public holiday, was busy and had to wait quite awhile for table and food. Booking recommended.
Sweet Potato Vegan Stack - Smoked beetroot hummus was paired beautifully with the tasty sweet potato roost. Vegan feta was surprisingly delicious! Seasoned greens were a little salty in my opinion. Price is a little high considering it’s a vegan meal though
Poke Bowl - Salmon was very fresh, amazing value considering how many ingredients it came with!
J. Q.
Food was amazing, one of the best brunches out there. Great coffee and good vibes too.
Highly recommend the cured salmon and avo on toast and the miso pulled pork eggs Benny.
The wait was around 30-40min on a public holiday but the service was friendly and staff are energetic.

This was one of our go-to places to order breakfast during the lockdown, so it was great to finally visit the place and eat our favourite breakfast at the premises.
We always order the Cured Salmon and Avocado - Farro, broad bean, feta, kale crisp, poached egg, onion ash and salsa verde on toast. Everything about this dish is unique and goes so well together!
They have excellent coffee and super friendly staff.
Make sure you book your table over the weekend, as the place can get packed.

The waffle from the fried chicken waffle tasted like corn bread with bits of jalepeno. Yum.

Creative breakfast options, nice space. A good selection of vegan options. They are open on Sunday which is rare for a city cafe. The curly haired waiter with the glasses is a gem!

This place has such nice vibes and the music is always really good and great variety the staff are always really friendly and really willing to help! The eggs benny and beef burger are two of the best meals I've had in the city! 10 out of 10 recommend!!

Food tasted as great as they looked, presented beautifully, well priced and customer service from Joe was great. He looked after us, coming back to check on us time to time and refill our water, fast service and had a good chat with him- keep it up!😄 definitely recommend eating here

It occupies the same space that Hardware Societe did. My coffee was lukewarm and because of that did not taste great. Chicken waffle was great.Chilli crab scramble was also very good. Service was quick and attentive.
A. W.
The service was warm, friendly, and flexible - with delicious food, great options for vegans as well as for those who eat meat, and well made coffee. Had a great experience and wouldn't hesitate to recommend it to people! Do try and book however, it's popular 😄

Can't go wrong with Dukes Coffee unless the Barista isn't great.
Ordered Smoked Salmon, Chilli Crab Scrambled and Southern Fried Chicken with Waffle together with Hot Chocolate and Coffee.
Quite a decent spread with good portions and freshest ingredients. There was nothing to complain.
Service is quick and fast. Decent choice for Vegetarians and Vegans.
Totally enjoyed our Brunch....Or was it Lunch 😝

A beautiful cafe with good vibes and friendly staff. Warm cup of strong and tasteful coffee. What must I say about the waffle, God bless the wonderful soul who decided fried chicken and waffles have a place together on the table!!A mix of hot and sweet crispy fried chicken sitting over the crunchy waffles made with a mix of cornmeal and jalapeños dipped in thyme infused maple syrup gets you the most umami inducing mouthfeel with every single bite. Savour the morning with this sumptuous brunch!!

Coffee is great but the staff are what make this place amazing. Haven't had my caffeine yet and the 2 blokes behind the barista counter were so nice and friendly that my day started off in a positive vibe.
S. M.
Our go to breakfast in the city, love their chilli crab scramble and salmon poke bowl. Their coffee is excellent, highly recommend this place!

In a crowded market with many choices in close proximity 10Sq offers a very nice destination... Staff were very friendly, coffee was very, very good and the food was great (see pics)!
First off you are treated to an eyeful of gorgeous baked goods and pastries on the front counter which were as beautiful as hand crafted pieces of art! Fitout is ok but the warmth of the staff adds that finishing touch to the ambiance. Sparkling cold water in very clean serving set as well as really good coffee, very well presented. We ordered two dishes from a relatively exciting menu and both were good. Highly recommended, check it out...

New cafe at the spot of Hardware Societe. Maybe because of the location so the price is definitely on the higher end for the portion. Matcha latte was a let down, do not order if you like strong matcha flavour.
We got the:
- French toast: nice flavours combination, not overly sweet, really need to drench the toast in the wine syrup (which is also not that sweet) cause the toast is slightly on the dry side. Overall still like it but quite expensive for what we got.
- Cured salmon, avocado on toast: pretty standard, nothing really stood out, the onion ash did nothing to the dish, would not order this again.
- Panna cotta: favorite dish, nice combinations of flavours and textures, not too sweet, looks stunning as well.
Overall, Ten Square is doing not bad for a new breakfast/brunch place in the CBD though with so many competitions just around, there is definitely still room for improvement if they want to stand out more.

Tucked away on Hardware lane along with other famous brunches places! It looked absolutely gorgeous inside which led to high expectations. Unforunately, it's safe to say they didn't really meet them.
We got Cured Salmon & Avo ($22), Chili & Crab Scrambled Eggs ($21), Glazed Beef Cheeck ($26). In terms of taste, Chili & Crab Scrambled Eggs was somewhat of a predictable taste. In fact, it wasn't as flavourful as I'd expect it to be. Even though it was creamy and juicy, considering how it's $21, it was way too plain and banal. Cured Salmon and Avocado was decent. Salmon was juicy and savoury. Kale crisp was an interesting addition too - never expected it to taste so good.Glazed Beef Cheek essentially looked just like something you'd get at a nice streak restaurant. Came out with potatoe hash, asparagus, and parsnip puree. Beef was juicy overall.
I personally don't think it deserves 4.5 star on Zomato. Interior-wise, it was modern and chic but actual brunch themselves tasted very standard and mundane. Nothing special about them. In fact, only thing that really stood out to me was the wait staff. They were absolutely friendly and attentive despite of how busy it was.

We visited Ten Square cafe for a Tuesday lunch. It’s a great new café that has opened its doors in Hardware lane Melbourne. Nice and cosy inside and a lovely little outdoor area located at the front.
Lots of delicious dishes on the menu. It took us awhile to decide as everything looked good. We ordered the Braised Mushrooms, the Panna cotta and the Square Eggs.
The Braised mushrooms had some great flavours. We always love trying mushroom dishes when we see them on a menu. The Panna cotta was a lovely texture. Nice and smooth. It had a great wobble and held its shape, didn’t sag. Full of yummy flavours. The rhubarb didn’t taste tarty. The Square Eggs was something we hadn’t seen before. It was a lovely dish and a heart warmer. Lovely flavours and great textures. We would definitely order this dish again. It’s nice to try something different.
For drinks we had a Black Coffee (filter) - Ethiopia Mulish. Their coffee is supplied by Dukes Coffee. And a dirty Chai Latte (9 spice chai).
We thank Ten Square for having us. All of our opinions are genuine and are based on our experience at the time of our visit.
J. L.
This cafe is like many cafes ubiquitous throughout Melbourne's high quality cafe scene, but occupies ten squares on Hardware St. The menu is full of standard brunch classics, so the mission was to find the most innovative option on offer.
The fried chicken and conbread waffle came with bacon jam, pickled cauliflower and thyme infused maple syrup. Taking a little waffle, chicken and cauliflower in each bite harmonised the flavours, balancing out the sweet, salty and sour tastes nicely.
It was a quiet time of the day with just a steady stream of takeaway coffee orders. Friendly and polite service throughout the visit - faultless here. While not exorbitant, pricing is a bit on the higher side for the other menu items.
J. T.
9/10 chilli + crab Scrambled eggs
10/10 choc banana muffin
7/10 batch brew
Very good, 10/10 soylatte, Dukes beans, Happy soy & La Marzocco combo.
Y. L.
Egg Benny is tasty! They use waffle underneath. Coffee is good too. All the staff members are very friendly ☺️ (btw 15% surcharge for public holiday)
Y. W.
This place used to be the Hardware Societe cafe which moved to the opposite side.
Interior wise, it looks similar.
We ordered a Poke Bowl and Eggs Benny. I must say I was expecting a bit more flavour and beyond basic poke bowl dish. Since I like poke from Poke Man or Nosh, I was a bit disappointed Ten Square Cafe didn't come up with their own style. Probably it's just me.
The eggs benny was good, full of flavour, and the portion was towards smallish but it was ok.
The watermelon and orange juices we ordered were pretty good too.
I will come back next time to try other dishes.
M. G.
The CBD always needs more brunch options, so glad to put Ten Square at the top of the list. This cosy cafe has a great menu with twists on classic breakfast dishes. Quite loved the poached eggs with charred onion, the poke bowl and the panacotta with rhubarb and kumquat - beautiful and delicious!
a. a.
One of the best cafes in Melbourne! The food is amazing , the coffee is amazing and the staff is super sweet and nice as well❤️
B. P.
Very yummy food and efficient. I had the salmon and avocado toast and my partner had the chili scramble. Will definitely be coming back!
J. C.
Amazing coffee and savoury muffin. Hard to find savoury muffins in Melbourne, the ones I do find are really boring. But not here! I was so happy with it that I went back for a second muffin! Thanks guys, will be back soon 😁
F. Q.
Ten Square Cafe has great menu and amazingly delicious food! We had the Braised Mushroom and Square egg, they’re both so yummy and flavorful! I will 100% be back for more 😍
M. G.
High quality foods, good choices for brunch. The thing that makes it special is the look of the dishes, beautiful garnishes :)
M. G.
Went for brunch with my boyfriend and both our dishes were so delicious. Definitely will be back!
A. S.
Friendly staff, good atmosphere however It wasn’t the best brunch but it was not that bad.
Coffee and matcha is really good.
We order the cured salmon and Ham croquettes.
Salmon was lack of taste and croquettes was rubbery.
Hhmmm, come back again, 🤔
H. A.
Great coffee, super friendly staff, yummy breakfast options; By far the best cafe in Hardware Ln.
D. A.
One of the best brunches I tried in Meld, the eggs Benny is just perfect. I will come back soon.
R. C.
Very cozy and aesthetic cafe. Great for brunch with friends and the food was nice but a little on the pricey side.
S. V.
Great service from the hostess . Although it took a long time for the food to come and it was average.
M. Y.
Probably the best place for brunch in the city, the menu's an absolute stunner and as of yet, no 30+ minute queues.
Well, as of yet...
R. K.
The chicken and waffle is amazing! Beef cheek also super tasty. Friendly staff, nice atmosphere, yummy drinks.
M. D.
I loved the porridge. I struggle to find good cereal based breakfasts at many cafes. It’s my favourite way to start the day and a savoury option won’t cut it. Coffee was excellent. Service was wonderful. All up. Ideal. Thanks
T. P. L.
Went today with some friends and got the burger. It was amazing trendy and the vibe was good. Boutique little spot in melbourne.

From little things, big things grow!
What began as One Square in Elsternwick, has grown into Ten Square in the heart of Melbourne’s CBD. Housed in what was formerly the world-renowned Hardware Société, Ante and Diana Zeljko have taken residence down this bustling city laneway, and brought their take on Melbourne’s food culture.
Manager Patrick Mongan knows the ropes when it comes to being a hospitable host, and I felt ever so comfortable in his capable hands.
Coffee is sourced from Duke, with a selection of options that included filter brew from Burundi. Definitely worth coming back for.
The menu presents a dining experience you’d expect from a restaurant, which seems to be trending in Melbourne lately. Think Braised Mushrooms perched on soft polenta; Black Sesame Panna Cotta with Champagne poached strawberries, dragonfruit and kiwi sorbet; and my personal favourite- Yellowfin snapper with cauliflower puree and house made ricotta.
They also do cocktails, and true to form, I would strongly suggest the Espresso Martini!
Where? 120 Hardware Street, Melbourne.
Say hi to Di if she’s around!

Ten Square Cafe has a nice, modern ambience with a great menu which I'd love to work my way through. I ordered the Ham Hock Croquettes and my partner had the Date Hotcakes (before lockdown). Both dishes were super tasty, beautifully presented and were large portions.
The croquettes were perfectly golden and crunchy on the outside with bits of ham mixed in with the potato which made them beautifully soft on the inside. The greens were sauteed well, were well seasoned and provided a good balance from the croquettes and poached egg. I must say my egg was overcooked and not runny, if it wasn't for that, it would have been a 5/5 dish!
The hotcakes were nice and thick with a slight date flavour. The blueberry curd was the perfect compliment to the hotcakes and the sauce was great too.
I was so close to giving a 5, but I can't overlook the fact that we waited so long for our order. We waited probably 45mins, but given it was pretty quiet at the time, we weren't expecting such a long wait. Maybe the staff could be a little more transparent with us, or just check in to let us know it's coming or something.
Overall, I'd definitely recommend Ten Square Cafe - they're doing great and will be back for sure.
R. B.
Absolutely beautiful food & such friendly staff, would recommend to everbody 👍
N. B.
We absolutely loved our meals (poké and avo salmon). Everything was seasoned so well and they even provided GF soy sauce. Plenty of seating and the staff seemed to really get along with each other and customers. I can't wait to come back
J. L.
Beautiful food and amazing coffee! Brilliant staff and lovley vibe.

Amazing Brunch!
Met with my daughter today and decided to try Ten Square Cafe.
Great choice, the Vegan Stack was delicious and we even had some drinks afterwards.
Highly recommend
G. R.
Excellent service and great food, love to come again, this place is my favourite place to go now😊 giving 10/10, great work guys.
B. P.
One of the rare Melbourne food places that's not afraid to use some spice in their dishes. 10/10 for everything from the chilli scramble (with real crab - and lots of it too), soba noodle salad (personal fave) to the coffee (they might even do it better than where they get their beans from 🤭)
J. S.
CANNOT RECOMMEND THIS CAFE ENOUGH! Such a wonderful and interesting menu, with options for many dietary requirements. Service is excellent, friendly vibes! Great coffee and they also do house infused vodka. Say hi to Patrick and the team!
D. W.
EGGS BENNY, THE BEST I HAVE EVER HAD I JUST FOUND MY NEW LUNCH PLACE, DEFINITELY COMING BACK!!
J. D.
Great breakfast/brunch menu, coffee was good as well. Supernice service 👍🏻

I review pretty much all the places I go too. This Cafe came up as top Cafe so had to go check it out. Myself and my family had lunch here. Took as a while to find as we the Cafe was in the ally walk. Place was cosy and staff were very friendly. I had the hotcakes which was delicious and my partner has the bowl of greens. The veggies was not over cooked was very crunchy and flavour was spectacular. Each items on the plate complement each other. The freshly juice that we had with our meals was so refreshing it fills you up. We would definitely return.
h.
Very accommodating staff and extremely friendly service. Amazing barista. I can't have dairy but they make the creamiest most delicious almond milk latte - best I've ever had. I had to send the waitress back to confirm it was indeed almond milk because it tasted like real milk. The food was great too. Will definitely be back again to try more items on the menu.
M. T.
This place must be new, cos last time I was at Melbourne, Hardware Societe was in this exact premises. Anyway, looked at the menu and got interested. They’re using Duke Coffee so that helps too. Wasn’t disappointed with the experience at all. The coffee was on point, and the breakfast was amazing. I had the square eggs, it was yum. My partner had the baked eggs with bacon, she was pleased too. Will definitely return to try another menus
C. B. B.
Good food, waiter with curly hair was very friendly and good service
C. C.
Best place for branch. I love the waffle and chicken. Never had it on other place before.
N. E.
A really lovely and up coming cafe with delicious and interesting vegetarian and vegan option. Staff are very welcoming to freelancers and have a power point available. Would highly recommend this place to any tourists looking for a trendy, relaxed and very Melbourne experience! :)
A. L.
A nice and simple spot for a morning coffee and croissant 🥐 staff members are lovely and attentive if you have any questions.
S. G.
The Vegan Stack (also gluten free) was so delicious! Very filling. The staff were very friendly and nice atmosphere.
V. N.
I would like to preface this review by saying that I am not a believer in going out for breakfast or brunch, so I may be slightly biased. I ordered the chilli-crab scrambled eggs. They were alright: the crab added a nice sweetness to the meal, though I couldn't really taste the chilli, and I feel like the whole dish was a little under-seasoned. The eggs were cooked nice and soft, though it's something I feel like I could have simply made at home, were someone to give me some nice crab meat. My friend had the hotcakes, which were more of a cake-consistency than a pancake consistency, and topped with a sort of marscapone, seemed a little too dense and rich (from what I would imagine, and from his comments) - he said that it would have been better had it been topped with ice-cream, which could have soaked into the cake, making it a little more moist, and a little less dry. The coffee was pretty good - pretty standard, can't complain, and the staff were friendly and welcoming.
K. P.
Delicious food. We had their porridge and eggs benny and both were delicious. We will definitely be coming back to try other items on the menu - other dishes look just as good. Highly recommend.
One thing to keep in mind is the waiting time. If you are in for a quick lunch or in a hurry, do keep in mind that it takes quite a while for the food to come out.
Great service.
S. N.
Only stopped for a quick coffee and lunch. They had run out of a few things but provided great alternatives. The staff were friendly and helpful. They didn't even blink an eye when I ordered chips with my meal. Yes I am one of those people who have chips and tomato sauce every chance I get.
M. A.
The crew are amazing, especially young EG the service was just exemplary, she’s very accommodating. I want to shout out as well for the barista, it’s the best coffee I’ve ever have so far here in Australia.
Food was the best of quality and the taste is extremely delicious.
N. L.
The European style alley leading up to the entrance sets the mood and makes you anticipate your coffee. Ten Square is my favorite coffee shop establishment in Hardware Street, and among my favorite in the city. It is such a great add to the neighborhood with Indoor and a large outdoor covered patio seating , perfect for any sort of weather, that's great to meet and work, or just hang out. The coffee is fantastic, and the baristas are very friendly. You won't be disappointed in the awesome delicious menu and excellent courteous service. The place has a super cool interior and fabulous atmosphere.
OMG - the Glazed Beef Cheek with Pomegranate Jus 😍 Forget about it !! 😍
O. J.
Food was ok, we had: snapper (bit weird with mix between hot and cold food), greens bowl and polenta chips. Coffee was good.
Service was attentive but took 25 minutes to get our food which felt a bit long given the place wasn’t overcrowded.
S. K.
Delicious chicken and waffles, succulent beef cheeks, and a honey shortbread that was rich enough to share between four. We happened across this place after visiting the board game store across the road, and absolutely loved it. Will be back for sure.
P. F.
In amongst a group of cafes that have queues to get in, this cafe faces stiff competition. The coffee was good, but I don’t need a card telling me what the coffee is for every cup I have in one sitting.
The service can be a little patchy if you are sitting outside on a cold day, the staff like to stay where it’s cosier.
A. W.
First time trying coffee with almond milk and the one here changed my life! I've tried it from other cafes ever since, but nothing beats the cup I got from here. They've set the benchmark too high unfortunately and I'm now afraid nowhere else can ever compare :'( the coffee was not acidic at all (acidity is something I personally do not quite enjoy in my cuppa), adequately strong and had just a pleasant hint of sweetness from the almond milk.
Also tried the chilli scrambled eggs, and it was delicious too! Might sound strange but it reminded me of the Thai omelette (not in a bad way). The bread underneath was a little hard, but understandable given that we sat outside to savour the cold.
Another noteworthy thing was the wonderful service, especially from Maria and the friendly barista (so sorry I didn't have a chance to get your name!). If the other dishes are just as good, it might just be one of my fav cafes in Melbourne!!! Well, at least I know the coffee alone is worth returning for ;)
H. T.
Love the coffee, food and service. The staff are so friendly and attentive.
V. O.
Excellent coffee friendly attentive staff and service. Very comfortable Ambiance perfect for meetings as there's no loud music.

Good breakfast and very friendly and polite staff.

Staff are great and coffee excellent. But 40mins wait for food, then it’s cold and they run out of feta (but don’t tell u until they serve so you can’t replace).
G. L.
Great coffee! Probably the best around that area. Good service. Quick and friendly. Food was pretty tasty too. Will return.
J. L.

Have been here multiple times and everytime the service was impeccable, especially from the curly haired waiter with the glasses, he is also very cute, need to get his number!
