Comments of Dutch Smuggler Coffee Brewers
T. L.
A hidden gem in the Sydney CBD near Circular Quay that really worths the visit. I came here many times just for their mee goreng toasties and the sparkling coffee (which unfortunately not available today). We ordered two coffees and toasties for lunch and enjoyed everything till the last bites. The toasties were cooked fresh; the bread was toasted crunchy and golden while the fillings are melting goodness with cheese, mee goreng, mushroom and fried sunny side up. Staff is extremely friendly and accommodating while their outdoor seating is designed with a few tables and chairs for dining in. The coffees came out quickly after ordering while the toasties came not long afterward. Yummy in my tummy 🤤! Coffee today was a tad bitter but otherwise everything was great.

Great coffee and delicious toasties!
This place has always had a spot in my heart. Although a little bit difficult to locate at first, but it is all worth it for the food, the coffee, and the friendly service.
I had the toastie + coffee combo for $12. The toastie was crispy, melty with cheese, runny egg yolk and a hint of shallots smell.
There is a construction near by so it was not an ideal place to sit down for a conversation. Other than that, no complaints.

Dutch Smuggler is just a walk away from Circular Quay station. I tried almost all their menu and gosh they were all so good!! Coffee was really good, the Indomie goreng toastie was brilliant as well as noodle garlic. It reminds me of San Fransisco’s Tanh Long! ❤️ Will surely visit another time!
I. M.
Incredible food, amazing service, and delicious coffee, all in a great location!
The baristas are all friendly and sharp. Everything you try will leave you wanting more. Highly recommend their mie goreng toastie and the truffle garlic noodle 😋.
Y. S.
A hidden gem nestled between buildings and construction, definitely worth finding! Had the privilege to taste their upcoming menu Salted Egg Chicken Toastie and it was amazing, full of flavor explosion! Accompanied with Java Frinsa Cold Brew, its a summer treat indeed!!
G.
Oh my this was sooooo good.
I have been wanting to visit for a while and finally made time to go today. This place is dangerously good. I had to purchase the Mi Goreng Toastie and also got a flat white. The $11 deal for both was great.
The coffee was great but the toastie was beyond amazing. The noodles are perfect, the right amount of spice and a delicious egg. The staff were all very friendly and and pleasant.
If I worked nearby I would be here for my morning coffee and lunch every day. I will be returning regularly as much as possible.
R. L.
Had breakfast here, and tried the interesting mee goreng toastie. I was a little hesitant at first but it was actually really good. The mushroom one was a little disappointing, as I could only taste the chilli flakes and not the truffle. Coffee also didn’t surprise me.
Do try the mee goreng toastie though.
R. H.
The best hidden coffee shop in Circular Quay area. Really loves the coffee from here and I always repeatedly coming here twice a day whenever I am working in the office. They also offers a great range of sandwiches.
B. K.
So hidden you’ll need directions or just a sense of adventure! Great coffee, food looks amazing and the staff are super friendly and fast as well. A definite afternoon treat and a great hideaway spot!
I. H.
Good coffee and interesting toasted sandwich options! I went for the MiGoreng option and it was quite nice!

Fight your way through the long queue of bankers and yuppies. Order your mi goreng toastie and a Good-for-Sydney-but-not-Melbourne-and-definitely-not-Wellington coffee. (This is still high praise. The good coffee in Sydney is very good, and this is good coffee.)
Wait. Get the toastie. Eat. Die very, very, very happy.
Come back the next day for the next toastie on the menu. Repeat until extremely rotund, but by god, you're not going to get a toastie as good as this anywhere else in Sydney.
Yeah, you want to find this hidden gem.
F. C.
Come early. The hype is real. As are the queues. Granted it was Friday lunchtime. But boy, these toasties are worth the wait. You've heard of the mee goreng, and it's as good as you've read, but the burger special was, well, just that, special.
H. M. M.
Some places were born to do one thing, and these guys do that one thing so well! Toasties are the heart and soul of this place and they are DELICIOUS. highly recommend the Mi Goreng Toastie and the coffee.
It is a little tucked away in the corner so you will need to go down the steps near the Steam Cafe, to find it. Reasonable prices and quality delicious food.
N. R.
Toasted sandwich with a difference. Great coffee and hot chocolate. Location is a little obscure from the street with all the construction currently going on in Sydney CBD. But once found it was worth it. Had the Mi Goreng toastie and it was great. There was a queue so the locals already knew where to grab some good food and coffee.
A. T.
They're a bit hidden and down some stairs, right next to an active building site which got very noisy and very dusty when I visited. Luckily there is a lovely park at Circular Quay where I sat down and enjoyed my lunch. The Mie Goreng toastie is something else. It seems an odd combination but the spicy noodles with fried egg and magic sauce were brilliant. If you're looking for something different I can highly recommend it.
K. W. T.
Came for the famous mi goreng toastie and it sure didn’t disappoint though I was a little apprehensive before that on how weird it may be. It turns out really well and there was a tack of spiciness in the noodles just the instant noodles. The egg and some cheese added more flavours. Service was excellent as all the staffs were really friendly and helpful. The cafe is down the stairs amidst all the constructions currently which is a little hard to find and I would strongly suggest not eating here but takeaway as there might be dust particles from the construction nearby which is not the cafe’s fault to be fair to them.
F. K.
These guys get pretty creative with their toasties. Toasties + coffee comes to $10 a not bad! The mi goreng toastie is unique and worth a try but I preferred the truffle and cheese toastie most. My mi goreng toastie was missing the spinach, so my photo doesn’t look as appetizing as some others. The place itself is a bit hidden - just note it’s at the bottom of the steps!
C. W.
Absolutely fantastic coffee and food + super friendly staff
What more could you want!
M. S.
Mee goreng toastie is the bomb! Great coffee as well ❤️
s. p.
The place is a bit difficult to find. Be careful not to miss it. Tho it's small, but it's really a nice place to relax. I ordered the Indomie toastie, which is the signature dish from this place. It was yum. The coffee was also great. Totally recommended.
L. B.
Oh my!!!! Their famous noodle sandwich that has gone viral on Facebook. It was a must that I try this place out. To which I must say, I was not disappointed at all! It was delicious. I also got a hot chocolate with it and it was exceptionally great. My morning was definitely made after this meal.
I. T.
Awesome service, creative menu with the weekly specials that will blow your socks off. Ive seen a creative dish ones or twice, but a butter chicken toastie was something else.
These guys have Hey You! As well so if you’re working in the CBD, give it 5min and it should be ready.
Unfortunately the ambiance has taken a hit due to the construction next door, but being 2min wall from circular quay, absolutely no excuse not to take advantage of a nice day and chill by the water.
M. T.
Fantastic toasted sandwiches! They're known for their mi goreng toastie, but I couldn't pass up trying the nacho libre toastie with Mexican beef, chedder, beans, jalapenos, and tomato corn salsa. Delicious! They also do a toastie of the week special.
J. D.
Everything people say about the Mie Goren toastie is true, it's absolutely delicious. Who knew bread, noodles, egg, cheese and special sauce could go so well together. Definitely give this place a visit. Other toasties like Slap Tha Cheesy are also scrumptious!
M. L.
Good food! Location is a bit hard to find. First find EY building on George St. then locate a downward stairway next to it and head down. It will be on your left. For tourist, remember to visit the Underwood ark on the back street, it's quite amazing as well.
S. D.
Toasties!!
Terrifically tasty toasties. Great coffee. Lovely service.
A. T.
Was introduced to this cafe by a colleague due to our mutual love of migoreng noodles. The migroeng toastie was delicious and had character. The buttered pan fried bread, perfectly cooked egg and delicious noodles all played an integral yet unique part to making this definitely one of the best toasties I've had.
張.
Best coffee shop in this area. Serving Barrle One Coffee Roasters coffee beans.
Amazing toastie, such like mi goreng toastie.
M. W.
Awesome food
Great service
Great location.
The toasties are amazing and definitely hit the spot.
However, its always a hard choice as the smuggler bacon and egg roll is outstanding.
P. Y.
Hidden gem found in between this cafe and building, head down the stairs. Fulfilling toasties and quality coffee. Definitely recommend.
S. F.
I just tried the weekly special toastie. This weeks toastie was the Katsu-Kid. I really hope that this finds it’s way onto their regular menu. The place is a little obscure to find and if you were not paying attention you would walk right past. I will definitely be back.
T. L.
The Migoreng Toastie is one of the most delicious toasties!! Definitely not one of those creations just for marketing sake! Worth the effort to find parking and walk there!
C. T.
My favourite coffee near Circular Quay. Great coffee, food, toasties and friendly service.
A.
Everything came together nicely for a great experience today. I visited specifically to try the famous toasties, and chose the Mushroom Truffle - it exceeded my expectations that were already high! I didn't plan to have coffee but was convinced by the "Free Flow" hour - free refills of the batch brew 13:00-14:00. It was an Indonesian bean, which was a pleasant change to the usual beans available in Sydney, and I ended up buying a bag to take home. The cup that the coffee was served in was cool, but I forgot to see if they were for sale.
To round everything off, the customer service was top notch. I was served by and spoke to Kelvin who was welcoming, talkative, and discussed the Indonesian beans with me. I think I spoke to the boss as well who was also friendly.
My only small criticisms would be:
1) It'd be good to see the tables being cleared/wiped once customers have left - there were some pieces of food on my table from previous visitors.
2) I found it slightly hard to hear the staff when ordering due to the music from the speaker on the front desk.
Overall I'd definitely recommend Dutch Smuggler to everyone - if I worked in the city I'd be a regular. I hope that you start opening on weekends; even just reduced hours on Saturdays would be awesome and give many more people a chance to visit who can't go during the week. Thank you!
T. D.
Did not get to try the Goreng toastie that everyone raves about, but I did try their coffee, and it was exceptional. Staff is friendly and quick. Unfortunately, major construction works are going on right next to it, but it is not Dutch Smuggler’s fault!
K. F.
The mi goreng toastie was awesome! The toastie of the week was buttermilk fried chicken, thick bacon and cheese. Cardiac arrest for breakfast A++ would buy again!
B. M.
Great little coffee nestled away from the street. Great place to sit and have a coffee. I also highly recommend trying the Mi Goreng toasty, very yummy.
B.
A very good little cafe hidden almost underground. The service was a tiny bit slow but it was pretty busy that day, which is representative of how popular this place is! Friendly staff and the food served was very good as well.
P. L.
Delicious and unique toasties. Makes a refreshing change for breakfast
O. B.
Nice place to get your toast super quick. They also serve good coffee.
S. T.
Friendly service great food and coffee, don't be put off by the construction next door, it's the city there's always something being built
E. S.
The CBD espouses a lot of excellent coffee for the office dwellers, but none is better than the Dutch Smuggler! It is by far the best coffee in this part of Sydney. It only sells Indonesian coffee, which is underappreciated in Sydney. The coffee is perfectly extracted, the mouthfeel is smooth, the aftertaste is deep, and the colors of the coffee come across very cleanly. Look for it at the bottom of the Ernst/Young building steps, under the construction site!
J. D.
I've had multiple specials and standard toasties, every time you're greeted by friendly staff and it's a great little area to chill out. The bread is always toasted perfectly and it's never 'too much bread' like some sandwiches or toasties can be. Chicken has been quite dry on some and generally to me they lack flavour and seasoning. Overall you can get a toastie and coffee for $10, for city standards that's great. But from my experience I think I have tried it enough times in hope that something would keep me coming back. Definitely worth a try, and if you find something you love stick with it, that just wasn't the case for me.
N. C. (.
Three visits, three great toasted sandwiches - tasty, imaginative and not too extravagant. Top notch
L. C.
Great coffee with some really great and innovative choices with food.
T. B.
Credit where credit's due -- amazing customer service from great staff who are able to think on their feet!
As you'd expect, a Mi Goreng toastie would be a pretty popular option on a Friday lunch time. The wait was a bit longer than expected and there were quite a few people becoming a little bit frustrated. The staff were obviously under the pump but didn't lose their cool.
The legends at Dutch Smuggler offered everyone a free coffee (flat white was terrific too) and then a voucher for a free toastie on their next visit.
The Mi Goreng toastie was worth the hype and wait too -- bloody excellent.
A well-deserved five-star review for excellent food and terrific service.
M.
The coffee was good, but...
Don't bother coming here for their well reviewed Mee Goreng Toastie before 8am. Despite opening at 7am, this toastie isn't available until 7:45am at the earliest. Fairly disappointed.
The Croque Monsieur was decent for a ham & cheese sandwich.
A. H.
Great place to pick up something for breakfast. The toasties are amazing and definitely worth trying out, especially the mushroom one. It's a bit hidden but easily recognisable by the small area it occupies. Plenty of seats in the area and great staff. Wait times are reasonable as well
D. “.
Toasties were really good, but the coffee wasn’t too great - quite disappointed in that aspect - think the milk was spoilt?? Construction happening next to them makes it a bit noisy and they don’t have WiFi provided to customers so it’s more of a grab your coffee on the go kind of cafe!
B. K.
Terrific customer service. One to the best toasties I ever had. Location is bit hidden but once you know where it is you will become a regular, wished I lived close by
L.
Been here twice now and WOW!!
Had the $10 Toastie and Coffee special both times. First the MiGoreng Toastie and then The Marty Toastie, and it was so good!
If you ever find yourself craving a toastie, get The Marty toastie, that along with the amazing service will blow your mind! 😁😊
C. W.
The coffee was decent and the toasties were good. I wouldn't say this is a must do but if you are ever nearby it isn't a bad place to stop in. I only gave 4 stars because I had to ask for water 3 times over a 10 minute period before I actually got it.
L. G.
Outstanding quality of service, food and cleanliness.
I had the Mee Goreng sandwich and it was delicious!
Thank you guys for the lovely service. I am looking forward to coming back and trying something else!
W. W.
Tried their mi goreng toast and it was good! Good enough to satisfy my craving for indonesian mi goreng. Had their matcha almond latte too. Recommended to try if you are in Sydney.
K. D.
Outstanding coffee, great people, and the Mee Goreng toastie is a must try! Check out their weekly specials also, revolving menu of something new and tasty
M. G.
They are one of best brewers in town, always crowded with people, they way they brew coffee is good, gives a burnt out but rich flavour, just loved it, prices are as usual, nothing special. Its bit hidden as you have to go downstairs to reach there.
J.
Nice little spot for a toastie, good coffee too. Hopefully the masses working from home and surrounding construction doesn’t force them to close.
V. L.
Tried the Mi Goreng Toastie. It’s special!
S. D.
Really lovely coffee and toastie. Should try the 5$ free flow batch which is phenomenal!!!!!
Cheers
F. D.
First time I've ordered lunch from there, salad tasted great apart from the peanuts... maybe if they where shaved pieces itt would have blended better
T. W.
Seriously amazing coffee experience and the food was crazy good. Coming back weekly, friendly staff and cool atmosphere
R. B.
